2023  4 TH ANNUAL CHEESE CUP FOR FUN RECAP!

ONE WORD – WILD!

The “ for fun ” part was understated to say the least. We had 11 boats in 2 sections, many 1 st time crew… just what this is meant for: to come out, be on the water, sail and have F U N! !

1 st the skippers meeting to go over SI’s and rules, took 5 seconds –

●       NO RULES use any sails or paddles you have!.

●       Next up was the very technical handicapping with red and green dice.

Winds were out of the south, making for a high speed run all the way up to Kenosha from Waukegan Harbor. Many individual battles made for great racing with perfect weather.

We met with KYC a couple of weeks ago and they could not have been more accommodating.  The KYC reception included FREE Spotted Cow beer for Cheese Cuppers, tables set-up for our impromptu buffet and comfy couches to lounge in, on the patio!

After getting the boats parked and rafted off to keep us all close, the Spotted Cow started flowing and it was off to the races!  Homemade Mac & Cheese, Cheese Puffs, various cheeses & crackers, cheddar goldfish, mini cheesecakes, salads, and of course, Cheese Whiz, were piled on a few picnic tables, for all to share and enjoy.

Janet passed out yellow foam ‘string cheese’ noodle floats for all, clothes came off (bathing suits appeared) and the Cannon-Cheese-Ball contest was on!  Sailors filled the water in an eclectic cheesy charcuterie board of various crew members from competing boats.The Kenosha Bay was filled with Cheese Cuppers on floating  yellow noodles holding cocktails.

The Cheesiest Spirit Award went to the crew of The Pearl , girls dressed in Swiss cheese costumes! Cheese Puff necklaces worn by the crew, Cheesy Names for all 11 of them!

Then the ultimate new Cheese Cup addition for this year was the  Cheese Wiz and Tequila shots. OMG!  A crowd lined up to board The Pearl like crazy for this new hit. Bill & Amy could not fit anymore people on that boat.

A big Cheesy Thank You to ALL who participated, “STAY CHEESY”, until next year’s….

Thank you for your interest in The Anchorage Yacht Club and the newly announced Waukegan Marina Yacht Club Benefits Program .

In the menu above you will find links to pages that explain the new program, membership benefits of AYC and a membership application.

Founded in 1928, our 95-year-old club moved its operations to Waukegan Marina over twenty years ago and currently has almost 90 members of which almost 50 have slips in the marina.  Benefits include reciprocity at over 700 yacht clubs across the US, $100 annual slip fee discounts, $25 fuel vouchers, free key cards, three free patio parties and two member banquets.

If after reviewing the club benefits, you wish to apply for membership, please fill out the attached membership application and email it to:

All new members are required to have their membership application sponsored by two current AYC members in good standing.  If you already know an AYC member, please send his or her name along with the application and we will reach out to them and see if they would be willing to sponsor you.  If you don’t know any current member, go ahead and submit the application anyway and we will try to find two sponsors for you.  With over 90 AYC current members there is a pretty good chance that you know someone but don’t realize that they are members of our club.

After we find two sponsors, your application gets submitted to our board of directors for approval and must be approved by at least 75% of the board, at which point you will receive an invitation to join and instructions on how to pay your dues and receive your membership card.

There is a onetime $100 initiation fee for all new members, however, in an effort to help promote the Marina’s new program, Anchorage Yacht Club will waive the $100 initiation fee for all new Executive Members , as long as your membership application is received, approved and annual fee paid by midnight September 30, 2023 .  This is a onetime offer and one that has never been done before in the 95-year history of AYC, but that’s how strongly we feel about this exciting new program that the Marina has put together.

This means, that as an Executive member, you will pay only $100 and immediately receive $125 in ($100 slip discount + $25 free fuel).

The Anchorage Yacht Club was the first of its kind in New York; it went from a privately owned marina to an ‘Aquaminium’. There are 460 deeded boat slips which are individually owned.

There are many advantages in owning your own slip, the most notable being that you’re not paying rent that you will never see again. You get to use your slip during the season and then lay-up on land or stay in water off season without paying the dock or storage charges you pay at other marinas.

As an owner you can also rent out your slip like renting out any other property you own. And when you had enough of the boating life you can sell it… just like any other property you own.
