MEET CAPTAIN LOUIS and CHEF TERSIA! Captain Louis - Louis grew up on the Bluff in Durban on the East coast of South Africa, he has a friendly outgoing personality and loves people, entertaining and enjoying life. His love for the sea started at a very young age, spending all his spare time surfing, scuba, windsurfing and sailing. Louis worked his way into owning 50% of a 27ft yacht at the age off 17 and that’s where it all started. He has done many miles and hours accumulating endless knowledge in the art of sailing, enjoying boating and sailing in and out of different ports of South Africa. Louis owned various boats and ended up doing charters on a partly owned private catamaran together with his wife as charter chef and hostess on mostly the West coast of South Africa. Come and experience life onboard with Captain Louis. Chef Tersia - Tersia grew up in Johannesburg, sunny South Africa, after obtaining her senior certificate at school she studied at RA University where she obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree in finance. Working for corporate companies for many years she came to the conclusion that people was her passion, and not figures, as she enjoys the social life and love being in the kitchen to prepare impressive dishes for her guests. Meeting her husband on a sailing holiday, they decided to venture into enjoying life and having fun. Entertaining and hosting people led them to opening a restaurant where Tersia could live out her passion. She has always enjoyed the ocean and loves scuba, snorkeling and early morning swims. Her passion for hosting and making exquisite meals will make your visit a memorable one.

Y´all, these folks are the WAY TO GO! When we started looking with very short notice, the gentleman we spoke with worked non-stop to get us with the closest set-up to what we needed. We originally were trying to get on a power-catamaran, but there were none available in our requested price range in the Bahamas. But Jeremy Snider worked through an evening and most of a day to match us with a sail catamaran that would get the job done, and we are so thankful he did! We were set up with the most incredible Captain and Chef - Louis and Tersia. I´ve never met such kind and accommodating people from the moment they sent a welcome letter through the entire trip. They were in constant contact asking any of our preferences and special requests and doing everything in their power to make it all happen. And her meals - 15 OUT OF 10! Above and beyond what we were expecting...from the taste to the presentation, every bite we took was delicious! She even made us a Thanksgiving dinner- AND they helped us set a projector up for the Thanksgiving football games! Ps- I´ve never had turkey so moist and perfectly cooked. Ever. Capitan Louis kept us informed and asked our opinions on the itinerary, taking any of our must-do-excursions in mind. We encountered great weather, so we´ve been lucky there, but I´m sure there was a large part that the captain took into consideration to keep us comfortable and safe. Long-winded story short, do everything you can to make it happen with this crew. They make you feel like royalty while being a part of the family with you. I´ll never forget this trip!

First Exumas Charter

The crew was wonderful. Captain Martin was really good with the boys. The chef was excellent and very kind to my kids. We were very happy with everything. We had a great time and the service was wonderful. The islands are further apart, so you spend a lot more time moving. The winds were low for most of our trip, which meant little sailing and also made it hot as hell.

Presented by DMA Yachting, the majestic charter yacht Dulce Vita is a 48 ft sailing catamaran. The primary distinction of Dulce Vita are her elegant profile and inviting socializing areas. Dulce Vita spends the summer and winter season in British Virgin Islands. She was constructed by the ship builder Dufour in 2022. The well-planned yacht layout features 4 large cabins and easily accommodates a maximum of 8 guests.

Dulce Vita is classified primarily as a sailing catamaran. The central space of the yacht is the main saloon, which connects to the aft deck. Louis worked his way into owning 50% of a 27ft yacht at the age off 17 and that’s where it all started. Louis owned various boats and ended up doing charters on a partly owned private catamaran together with his wife as charter chef and hostess on mostly the West coast of South Africa. She even made us a Thanksgiving dinner- AND they helped us set a projector up for the Thanksgiving football games! Ps- I've never had turkey so moist and perfectly cooked. Ever. Additional Rate Details: ● ADDITIONAL FEES: The Charterer will pay cruising Permits, customs fees, and Taxes upon entry to Cruising Grounds or Ports for all charter locations.

● STANIEL CAY RELOCATION FEE: Relocation fee of $1,500 round trip or $750 one way and a minimum of 72-hour turn required on either side of charter dates for boat transit. Please inquire about availability.

● MARSH HARBOUR RELOCATION FEE: Relocation fee of $2,000 round trip or $1,000 one way and a minimum of 72-hour turn required on either side of charter dates for boat transit. Please inquire about availability.

● GEORGETOWN RELOCATION FEE: Relocation fee of $2,500 round trip or $1250 one way and a minimum of 96-hour turn required on either side of charter dates for boat transit. Please inquire about availability.

● TURKS & CAICOS RELOCATION FEE: Inquire for rates.

● MINIMUM NIGHTS: 5

● GUEST PAX: 8

● LESS THAN 7 NIGHT CHARTER RATES: For 6-night charters, divide the weekly rate by 7 nights X 6 nights. For 5 nights or less, divide the weekly rate by 6 nights X the number of nights.

● SLEEP ABOARD:1/2 the daily rate. Dinner ashore at the client’s expense. Includes boarding after 4 pm, welcome cocktail, breakfast the following day, and early start.

● HALF-BOARD OPTION: $100 discount per person Includes 7 breakfasts, 4 lunches, & 3 dinners, all other meals to be eaten ashore at the client’s expense.

● CHILDREN DISCOUNT: $100 discount per child.

● CABIN CONFIGURATION: Inquire for a change of cabin configuration. Relocation of the crew to an alternative cabin will incur an additional charge of $250 per night, to be paid before embarking on a yacht. Please inquire about availability.

● LOCAL FARE OPTION: $75 discount per person Includes 7 breakfasts, 6 lunches & 5 dinners, all other meals to be eaten ashore at the client’s expense.

● TURN AROUNDS: 24-hour turnarounds available for $250 per charter, otherwise 48-hour turns are standard

● HOLIDAY RATES: CHRISTMAS: Flat Rate of $24,000 for 2-8 guests and a 7-night minimum. Mus finish no later than Dec 26th. NEW YEARS: Flat rate of $29,000 for 2-8 guests and a 7-night minimum. Must begin no sooner than Dec 27th.

Best boat tour - and food - in all Sardinia

We had such an amazing experience that we came back for round two the following week. The turquoise waters, the INCREDIBLE food, the music… Vittoria and Mattias take care of every single detail to create the perfect day. If you wanna visit the most beautiful calas and beaches, the Hemingway is the best option. Thank you for everything Viki and Chef, see you soon!

The catamaran tour was amazing! Particularly, due to the skipper, Filippo. Besides the amazing beaches and nature, we had a delicious lunch (apetizers, salads, pasta, wine, cheese boards, fruits). You can have fun snorkeling or using the sup board. Truly recommend this tour to anyone going to Sardinia!

Fillipo and his deckhand, Joy, gave us an unforgettable catamaran experience of the beautiful waters and islands of Northern Sardinia. We are from South Africa so couldn’t speak Italian, but Joy’s English is exceptional so she kindly answered all our questions and explained everything beautifully. We were spoilt to a huge, delicious seafood meal on board and Joy & Fillipo went out of their way to provide food that our fussy children would eat. Drinks were plentiful too! We were provided with SUPS, goggles, snorkels and flippers to make for a fun day in the water! We highly recommend a day out with this great team. We had a sensational day we will never forget!

It was an unimaginable experience that I've had. The food on the boat was delicious. All the visited Gulfs were simply spectacular, the boat was amazing and the Captain is a great person. I am happy that I had this experience and I recommend it for all the tourists that in the future will have the opportunity to live it.

Best experience ever in Sardinia. Matthias and Vittoria were extremely helpful and friendly, they provided us the best service and local tastes of Sardinia. They showed us the most beautiful places for a swim around La Maddalena and gave detailed information about everything. We highly recommend them! Will come back for sure!

The day trip to the Maddelena Archipelago was fantastic. The hospitality was amazing - the boat was very comfortable, the lunch, appertivi, etc. were delicious. And our hosts Vittoria and Matthias knew all the best places to visit in the Archipelago to ensure we had the best swimming experiences. I would definitively take the trip again on my next visit - the best day of our trip!

Presented by DMA Yachting, the astonishing charter yacht Dolce Vita is a 48 ft sailing catamaran. The key elements of Dolce Vita are her elegant profile and interconnection with the sea. Dolce Vita spends the summer and winter season in the Bahamas. She was completed by the well-known ship builder Dufour in 2023. The spacious yacht layout features 4 large cabins and easily accommodates up to 8 guests.

Dolce Vita is offered primarily as a sailing catamaran. The the heart of the yacht is the main saloon, which connects to the aft deck. The aft deck is generous, with a prominent dining and seating area and that's where most of the delicious meals are served. The fascinating cabins offer designer mattrace beds and feature ensuite bathrooms. The cabins are located in the 2 massive hulls. Captain Louis - Louis grew up on the Bluff in Durban on the East coast of South Africa, he has a friendly outgoing personality and loves people, entertaining and enjoying life. His love for the sea started at a very young age, spending all his spare time surfing, scuba, windsurfing and sailing. Louis worked his way into owning 50% of a 27ft yacht at the age off 17 and that’s where it all started. He has done many miles and hours accumulating endless knowledge in the art of sailing, enjoying boating and sailing in and out of different ports of South Africa. Louis owned various boats and ended up doing charters on a partly owned private catamaran together with his wife as charter chef and hostess on mostly the West coast of South Africa. Chef Tersia - Tersia grew up in Johannesburg, sunny South Africa, after obtaining her senior certificate at school she studied at RA University where she obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree in finance. Working for corporate companies for many years she came to the conclusion that people was her passion, and not figures, as she enjoys the social life and love being in the kitchen to prepare impressive dishes for her guests. Meeting her husband on a sailing holiday, they decided to venture into enjoying life and having fun. Entertaining and hosting people led them to opening a restaurant where Tersia could live out her passion. She has always enjoyed the ocean and loves scuba, snorkeling and early morning swims. When we started looking with very short notice, the gentleman we spoke with worked non-stop to get us with the closest set-up to what we needed. We originally were trying to get on a power-catamaran, but there were none available in our requested price range in the Bahamas. But Jeremy Snider worked through an evening and most of a day to match us with a sail catamaran that would get the job done, and we are so thankful he did! We were set up with the most incredible Captain and Chef - Louis and Tersia. I've never met such kind and accommodating people from the moment they sent a welcome letter through the entire trip. They were in constant contact asking any of our preferences and special requests and doing everything in their power to make it all happen. And her meals - 15 OUT OF 10! Above and beyond what we were expecting...from the taste to the presentation, every bite we took was delicious! She even made us a Thanksgiving dinner- AND they helped us set a projector up for the Thanksgiving football games! Ps- I've never had turkey so moist and perfectly cooked. Ever. Capitan Louis kept us informed and asked our opinions on the itinerary, taking any of our must-do-excursions in mind. We encountered great weather, so we've been lucky there, but I'm sure there was a large part that the captain took into consideration to keep us comfortable and safe. Long-winded story short, do everything you can to make it happen with this crew. They make you feel like royalty while being a part of the family with you. Electric boats, meet hawaii’s first solar and wind-powered electric catamaran charter.

Kohala Blue, a boat tour operator in Kawaihae on the Big Island of Hawaii, has introduced what it calls the first renewable electric catamaran charter in Hawaii. The Dolce Vita is powered by an electric propulsion system that is charged by solar panels, wind turbines, and propeller regeneration.

When Kohala Blue’s 34-foot Gemini sailing charter broke down last year with a damaged diesel engine, the company was caught in a tight spot with few options.

Rather than trying to replace the parts, which would have been really costly, Kohala Blue’s owner, Shaun Barnes, made the decision to go electric.

Kohala Blue issued a news release last week, stating, “The company recently upgraded its 34-foot Gemini sailing catamaran with two electric propulsion motors, powered with sun and wind, that run silently and peacefully while underway.” The press release added:

What this means for passengers is a sailing experience like no other in the islands: no engine noise, vibration, air or water pollution and no fumes associated with gas or diesel power. Guests are confident their choice to snorkel, sail and observe marine life from the spacious decks of the Dolce Vita is the best for the marine environment.

The company says the conversion has completely transformed the experience for guests, creating a nearly silent, peaceful ride while minimizing the impact on marine animals.

In particular, electric propulsion has much less impact on whales than loud gas engines because they rely on ultrasonic hearing to navigate and find food.

The 34-foot Gemini 105MC sailing catamaran is Hawaii’s first renewable electric charter, according to Kohala Blue. Solar panels fitted on the dodger combined with wind turbines and propeller regeneration allow for a completely renewable energy-powered eco-friendly experience.

Barnes says she has noticed clear benefits from the electric conversion, telling West Hawaii Today :

The best part of it is the peace and quiet. When we’re moving, people can’t even tell whether we’re under motor or under sail. We have a hydrophone — an underwater microphone — and you can hear other boats coming from very far away.

She added that although the electric sailboat has roughly 19.8 hp, less than the 27 hp with the diesel engine, the electric engine’s instant torque offsets the speed reduction with a max speed under motor of about 6.5 knots.

Kohala Blue offers private charters for up to six guests with morning, afternoon, and sunset sails. You can book tours on the company’s website .

Initially designed as a charter boat, the takeover of Dufour by catamaran specialist Fountaine Pajot in May 2018 changed the fate of this 48-footer. Instead of becoming the unwanted orphan of the mighty Fountaine cat empire, its molds and yard space in northern Italy, run by JJL Catamarans in Forli in northern Italy, was bought by Croatian charter company Under the Heavens. We got the chance to test hull #29, the first unit to arrive in Australian waters.

Sailing around the world can have a profound effect on sailors, as it did for monohull dealer Matt Hayes. The former Olympic sailor and successful Sydney boat dealer came to a few conclusions during that 30-month circumnavigation, done on a 56- foot Dufour monohull. “ Everywhere we went there were cruising catamarans! ” This fact reflected the strong market for them, both in power and sail varieties. “So when the opportunity came to get this Dufour catamaran dealership, we jumped at the chance,” explained Matt as we talked aboard the first example to arrive in Australia. As a former Dufour monohull dealer, he knows well the flair of designer Umberto Felci, so had confidence in taking on this catamaran, despite the Italian being relatively new to the concept. For this initial model Felci collaborated with his company co-founder Lorenzo Giovannozzi.

The streamlined nacelle of the Dufour 48 minimizes windage. As for the relatively modest bridgedeck clearance, it guarantees good volume to the cabins but risks slamming in bigger seas.

A sea tour operator in Kawaihae is leading the way toward a more eco-friendly industry with Hawaii’s first fully electric sailing charter vessel.

The Dolce Vita, a 34-foot sailing catamaran operated by West Hawaii sailing charter business Kohala Blue, broke down last year. With the diesel engine for the business’ only boat damaged, Kohala Blue owner Shaun Barnes was in a tough position.

“They just don’t make replacement parts for that model anymore, so it would have been really expensive to repair,” Barnes said. “Another alternative would be to just get a new outboard motor, which is what a lot of people do.

“But we just liked the idea of going electric,” Barnes went on.

With the help of a team of electricians over the course of nine months, Barnes stripped the catamaran of its old engine and gas tanks, replacing them with two electric pod motors and four batteries, and installed four solar panels and a pair of wind turbines.

After “a lot of trial and error,” Barnes said she was finally left with a 100% renewable electric vessel.

Barnes said she believes the Dolce Vita is the only fully electric charter boat in the state, although the Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation was unable to confirm that claim.

Because of the difficulty and expense of the project, Barnes said she understands why other operators haven’t done the same, adding that the split hull of the catamaran offers more space for placing solar panels that other vessels might not have.

However, Barnes said there are clear benefits to switching to electric.

“The best part of it is the peace and quiet,” Barnes said. “When we’re moving, people can’t even tell whether we’re under motor or under sail. We have a hydrophone — an underwater microphone — and you can hear other boats coming from very far away.”

Meanwhile, the boat also is easier to maneuver, and the conversion has only marginally reduced its total horsepower.

“The diesel engine was 27 horsepower, I think, and now we have about 19.8 horsepower,” Barnes said, adding that the previous engine’s maximum speed under ideal conditions was approximately 6.5 knots (roughly 7.5 miles per hour), and the new engine is perhaps two knots (or 2.3 mile per hour) slower — although she added that the faster torque of the electric engine offsets its speed reduction.

“I certainly hope to see more owners doing this going forward,” Barnes said.

Orient Express La Dolce Vita.

The launch of new luxury trains shows no sign of slowing down, thanks to an obsession with slow travel, an appetite for nostalgia, and a taste for lavish interiors that harken back to the golden days of rail travel. Nothing epitomizes that better than the unveiling of the Orient Express La Dolce Vita later this year, a new “vintage-style” train that will travel around Italy on one—and two-night journeys.

The train is a partnership between the French hotel group Accor and the Italian luxury hospitality group Arsenale S.P.A., with a railway partnership with Trenitalia—Gruppo Ferrovie dello Stato—and the Fondazione FS Italiane. Note that this Orient Express is a different company than the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, which is owned by Belmond, part of LVMH, and runs from London to Venice.

The design inspiration is La Dolce Vita, “The Sweet Life,” the name of the Italian décor, art, and architecture of the 1960s, made famous by Federico Fellini’s film of the same name. Dimorestudio, an architecture and design studio founded by Emiliano Salci and Britt Moran, was inspired by 20th-century Italian design masters such as Giò Ponti, Nanda Vigo, Gae Aulenti, and Osvaldo Borsani.

The 11-carriage train will carry just 62 guests. There are 12 deluxe wood-lined cabins, 18 master suites, and one "La Dolce Vita" suite. They will all feature double beds, a sofa, armchairs, and a private bathroom. All cabins will have room service available. The restaurant car will offer lunch, dinner, and afternoon tea. The Bar Car will feature live music, an aperitivo and antipasti buffet, after-dinner cocktails, and Italian wines.

The itineraries have been designed to create exclusive travel experiences ranging north and south, giving glimpses of the Alps and the southern coastline. Most departures will leave from Rome, and journeys can include cities such as Milan, Florence, and Venice, as well as the island of Sicily, via the only passenger rail ferry in the world.

Rome is the departure point for many of these rail trips. A new Orient Express La Dolce Vita Lounge will open at Rome Ostiense station to welcome passengers and provide refreshments. Fully staffed, it’s where passengers check in, check bags, and indicate travel preferences. The Lounge is where you will pick up boarding passes, cabin numbers, and baggage tags. After a day sightseeing in Rome, it’s good to know that there will be changing rooms with showers available before the journey begins.

Two-night journeys include Rome, Venice, and Portofino; Rome, Venice, and Siena; The Italian Transsiberian, Matera, and Palena; Palermo, Agrigento & Taormina: Sicly Through its Myths; and Rome & Nizza Monferrato: En Route to Truffles and Wine. Single-night journeys include Rome & Montalcino: En Route to Fine Wines and Rome, Maratea & Palermo: The Wonders of the Tyrrhenian Sea.

The itineraries have been created in tandem with Orient Express’ first hotels, which will also debut in 2024: the Orient Express La Minerva in Rome and the Orient Express Palazzo Donà Giovannelli in Venice.

In 2025, La Dolce Vita is expected to add international routes to Paris, Istanbul, and Split on Croatia’s Adriatic Coast.

Reservations are currently open for booking. Fares start at $2,700 per person per night in a deluxe cabin and $4,000 per person per night in a suite. They include accommodation, the table d’hôte, selected wine and spirits, mineral water, soft drinks, tea and coffee, onboard entertainment, excursions, and all applicable taxes.
