Designed by Italian firm Nuvolari Lenard, Kismet 2.0 is 88 feet longer than its predecessor and weighs twice as much. The behemoth has an interior volume of 5,500 GT, in fact. Even at such a size, Kismet showcases harmonious proportions and sleek, elegant lines. The mast and bow, for instance, were modeled after a leaping jaguar and to ensure a distinctive profile.

Khan once again enlisted U.K. studio Reymond Langton Design to bring the interior to life. The billionaire is known to have very specific and clearly quite lavish taste. He requested the interior of the original Kismet reflect a “Champagne and caviar” theme, for example. The second Kismet is equally extravagant. A two-level open-plan entrance area with sweeping video walls leads to stylish living quarters that span some six decks.

The layout includes between eight and nine cabins for up to 12 guests and cabins for 36 crew. In addition, the owner’s suite comprises a spacious stateroom, dual bathrooms, two dressing rooms, and a private terrace with a Jacuzzi. Above, the owner’s office offers panoramic views, a conference table for up to six, and a dedicated pantry.

“The owner’s brief was challenging,” Peter Lürßen, managing director of Lürssen, said in a statement. “However, we believe that with our technical expertise, we have fulfilled the owner’s wish and vision for a yacht that will still be timeless and ahead of its time for many years to come.”

The best part? Kismet will be available for the 2024 charter season for €3 million (roughly $3.3 million) a week. Contact the Cecil Wright team for more information on availability, charter rates, and cruising locations.

Superyacht Kismet sold with yacht brokerage Cecil Wright as central agent

The story of how Cecil Wright sold 95m Kismet in just three months

Fewer clients, serviced better: Such is the promise of boutique yacht brokerage company Cecil Wright . But founder Chris Cecil-Wright doesn’t pay significant mind to labels. For him and his team, the London-based firm is, put simply, a place where clients can be assured that their needs will be expertly taken care of, whether that concerns the sale, purchase, charter or management of larger superyachts.

Being more selective in its business also means that Cecil Wright can devote more time to nurturing its relationship with owners, which Chris says is a critical first step in being awarded not only their trust, but also their confidence in seeing the job through.

A major win for Cecil Wright has been the recent sale of the 95-metre Lürssen superyacht Kismet - the largest yacht the firm has sold and represented as central agent. Following the purchase, Chris reflects on the success of the sale and how the brokerage’s expertise sold the vessel in just three months.

Why do you think Kismet sold so quickly?

We are delighted to have been able to secure the sale of Kismet for our client in a relatively short amount of time. Kismet represented a huge opportunity for any buyer to purchase one of the most recognisable and highly regarded yachts available on the market. As the global sales central agent for Kismet , we created a tailored marketing campaign, ensuring no stone was left unturned as we searched for the perfect buyer for our client.

The sale comes in our 10th year and really helps to solidify our belief that we have carved out a position for ourselves in the big boat market. Between the large brokerages and the smaller brokerages, we are in a position for both to feel confident coming to us and working with us.

What kind of support are you providing the new owner of Kismet in the after-sales period?

As with all our clients, we created a strong working and personal relationship with the owner and are looking forward to continuing to be part of his yachting journey for many years to come.

Representing the leading Lürssens of the fleet

Following the sale of Kismet, Cecil Wright will now bring the 90-metre Lürssen Phoenix 2 to the 2023 Monaco Yacht Show . Chris explains what this means for the firm and prospective yacht buyers.

What makes Phoenix 2 unique on the market?

Phoenix 2 is arguably the best big yacht on the sales market at the moment. She offers her prospective new owner an incredible platform to enjoy many happy years of cruising while also coming with a strong and established charter pedigree and income.

Is there a lot of interest in Phoenix 2 ahead of the Monaco Yacht Show?

We have received some fantastic lines of enquiries already for her since we announced our position as joint central agent on Friday. On top of this, with Kismet being sold so quickly and before the Monaco Yacht Show, we have a large number of clients and contacts who never had the opportunity to view her and are still in the market for a 90-metre yacht.

Phoenix 2 is asking €124,950,000 with VAT paid. For more information, contact the team at Cecil Wright today .

Eric Schmidt was supposed to buy a yacht once owned by a Russian oligarch. Here's the one he bought instead.

  • Eric Schmidt backed out of buying the Alfa Nero megayacht last year.
  • He instead purchased the Kismet, formerly owned by Shahid Khan, and renamed her Whisper.
  • The ship — one of the biggest yachts owned by a tech billionaire —was listed for about $161 million.

Insider Today

Last year, Eric Schmidt made waves in the yachting community when news came out that he was the soon-to-be owner of the Alfa Nero, an 81-meter megayacht that belonged to a sanctioned Russian oligarch .

The former Google CEO, who is worth $32.1 billion, per Bloomberg, was to pay $67.6 million for the yacht, which was being auctioned off by the government of Antigua and Barbuda , where the ship had been moored since February 2022, the month Russia invaded Ukraine. The small Caribbean nation had been spending $28,000 a week simply to maintain the mammoth boat.

But as the sale proceedings went on, legal challenges piled up as people laid claim to Alfa Nero, and Schmidt backed out of the deal.

Related stories

It didn't take long for him to rebound, though. In September 2023, just three months after he won the Alfa Nero auction, the billionaire purchased Kismet, renaming her Whisper, Business Insider has learned.

A spokesperson for Schmidt declined to comment to Business Insider.

The 95-meter-long yacht, built by the renowned German shipyard Lürssen and delivered in 2014, was formerly owned by the Jacksonville Jaguar's billionaire owner, Shahid Khan — hence images of the cat featured on her figurehead and throughout her decor.

Whisper, which can fit at least a dozen guests and a crew of 28 features a master deck with a private jacuzzi, as well as a full-service spa, lap pool, hammam, and outdoor fireplace. Made for entertaining, the megayacht has a cinema, a grand piano, and two helipads — one of which doubles as a basketball court and the other than transforms into a disco.

Her interior was designed to "create a feeling of relaxed opulence, based on a 'Champagne & Caviar' theme," according to the brokerage that sold the ship.

While the yacht's final sale price was not public, she was listed for 149 million euros (about $161 million at current exchange rates).

At a charity auction in January, one week aboard the ship went for $2.4 million, according to industry outlet Yacht Charter Fleet — a steal, considering she typically goes for $3 million a week.

Photos: A look at Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan’s yacht Kismet through the years

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

It’s a big week for Shad Khan’s Jacksonville Jaguars.

The team has the top pick in the NFL Draft once again, giving them a chance to get some help for Trevor Lawrence , who was picked No. 1 overall by the Jags last year.

RELATED: Jacksonville Jaguars fielding no offers for top pick, narrow choice to 4

In honor of the Jags’ upcoming moment in the spotlight, let’s take a trip down memory lane with another one of Khan’s assets: The Kismet, his nearly $200M yacht.

‘I WANT TO LIVE ON IT’

Action Sports Jax’s Brent Martineau first gave you a look at the mega yacht when it was brand-new and anchored in the Thames River ahead of the Jags’ London game against the Dallas Cowboys in 2014.

Khan sold his previous yacht in 2013, replacing it with the 300-foot Kismet, which took two years to build. Back then, the Kismet had a statue of a Jaguar on the front.

One of the Kismet’s onlookers in London declared “I want to live on it!”

‘MY FEET WOULD NEVER TOUCH LAND’

The yacht made it to the River City in 2015, docking in the St. Johns River next to the CSX building.

Deborah Kaczorowski of Jacksonville told Action News Jax then she was impressed with the Kismet.

“My feet would never touch land — maybe once a week —- if I had something like that,” Kaczorowski said. “I’d enjoy that bad boy.”

KISMET FOR SALE

In October 2020, the Kismet was listed for sale .

At that time, the asking price was $199,039,663. Now, the Kismet’s listing says “POA” under the asking price.

“POA” means “price on application” or “price on asking,” which means the seller must be contacted to get the price.

‘I CAN MOVE THE NEEDLE’

In December 2021, the Kismet was the site of an informal question-and-answer session with the media as Khan reflected on his 10-year anniversary as the owner of the Jaguars.

He reiterated his hope to help elevate the city to new heights and bring a Super Bowl to Jags fans.

“There’s a vacuum here, there’s a football team here and as an owner I can move the needle,” Khan said. “How many times do you get a chance to move a needle in a good way in a great American city, very rarely. That’s the power here.”

Luxury £288m superyacht belonging Shahid Khan docks in Scotland

  • The vessel, Kismet, requires staff of up to 40 to cater for dozen guests on board
  • Megayacht is also available for charter, with prices starting at £2.4m per week

It would not look out of place at the billionaires’ playgrounds of Monaco and Dubai .

So locals in the Scottish town of Troon were stunned to see the £288 million Kismet megayacht pull into harbour at the weekend.

The 400-foot charter yacht includes a helipad, a beauty salon, a spa, a sauna and a swimming pool, as well as indoor and outdoor cinemas, a dance floor and a gym.

It has accommodation for 12 guests across nine cabins, and is so large that it contains an elevator.

The luxurious interior styling is by British designer Reymond Langton Design.

Kismet arrived in Troon on Saturday on its maiden voyage after being constructed at German shipyard Lurssen.

Who is Shahid Khan? From washing dishes for 85p an hour to splashing out on a £140m superyacht... meet 'the Tache with the Cash' primed to take over ownership of £800m Wembley

The vessel commands a staff of up to 40 workers, and belongs to Shahid Khan, the Pakistani-American billionaire businessman and owner of Premier League side Fulham.

Mr Khan is also principal owner of American football team Jacksonville Jaguars.

Kismet was spotted by keen kayaker Mark McInnes.

He said: ‘I’m from Troon, a short walk along the road to the beach to launch the kayaks.

‘Myself and my girlfriend Dawn decided to paddle out to the harbour on Saturday morning to get a closer look at the yacht.

‘Not every day these are in Troon and it was such a lovely sunny calm morning on the water.

‘It was amazing to see it up close, so new and clean. There was even a man abseiling off the side of it to clean the windows.

‘We would have loved to get an invite on board but that didn’t happen, so we will just have to imagine what it looks like inside.’

Passengers are able to arrive by helicopter and can enjoy a dancefloor, beauty salon, spa, elevator, underwater lights, beach club and gym.

The opulent yacht is also available for charter, with prices starting at £2.4 million per week, plus expenses.

Mr Khan is well known in celebrity circles and is understood to have entertained the likes of Beyonce and Jay-Z on his yachts in the past.

His rags to riches story has seen him go from earning just 85p an hour washing dishes to making a £900million bid for Wembley stadium in 2018.

The 73-year-old businessman, who moved to the US when he was 16 with just 500 US Dollars (£360) to his name, became owner of west London side Fulham in 2013.

The married father-of-two bought the club from Mohamed Al Fayed for a fee believed to be between £150m and £200m and at the time he said: 'Fulham is the perfect club at the perfect time for me.

'I want to be clear, I do not view myself so much as the owner of Fulham, but a custodian of the club on behalf of its fans.’

He was born in Lahore, Pakistan to his mother, Zakia, a maths professor, and father, Rafiq, who sold surveying equipment.

Encouraged by his father, who stood for humility and frugality, Khan from an early age developed a nous for business.

He is said to have charged his school friends to borrow his comic books as a youngster.

Inside Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan’s $160m ‘Kismet’ superyacht which is ‘champagne and caviar palace’

  • Jordan Kligman
  • Published : 17:45 ET, Nov 16 2023
  • Updated : 19:00 ET, Nov 16 2023

JACKSONVILLE Jaguars billionaire owner Shahid Khan is listing his $160 million superyacht up for sale in anticipation of his new Lürssen vessel.

The Kismet is currently the largest yacht for sale on the market.

The Kismet is up for sale for a whopping $160 million

The 312-foot superyacht is decorated with a particular "champagne and caviar" theme designed by Reymond Langton and Espen Øino.

To start, the boat has a fire pit, two helipads - one of which converts into a basketball court - three pools with a waterfall, and two movie theatres, with one indoors and another outside.

On game day, when the Jags take the field, a 13-foot silver statue of a jaguar with its paw resting on a football helmet is mounted on the bowsprit.

"The original intention was to make Kismet the most luxurious charter boat on the water," Captain Dave Andrews told Robb Report.

The most extravagant feature of the themed craft is a Champagne-colored chandelier by Crystal Caviar.

The one-of-a-kind piece hangs in the central lobby next to a sweeping black-and-gold Art Deco staircase suspended over a fancy grand piano.

To get around the vessel, there's a glass elevator in the lobby with access to all decks.

When hosting guests, folks flock to the climate-controlled winter garden with sliding glass panels.

With both heating and air conditioning, it's perfect for the yacht’s cruising itinerary of the Caribbean in winter and the Mediterranean in summer.

Docking in London every year, Khan pays his respects to his English soccer club, Fulham FC , too.

"We either anchor in Canary Wharf or go to the warship mooring downstream of Tower Bridge as the boss likes the view of the bridge," Andrews said.

In the sky lounge, the Pakistani American sits at a large sports bar watching his teams out across the bridge deck.

It also transforms into a disco with a built-in stereo system.

Despite having a helipad, it's hardly used, instead being swapped out for a basketball court with netting erected to catch any balls that bounce off.

"We always have a deckhand standing by on a Waverunner," Andrews added.

The foredeck serves as a private deck with a Jacuzzi and is also used for yoga.

It opens directly into the master suite with a private office, an oval skylight, and one of three bioethanol fireplaces.

The Kismet has seven added guest suites, fitting 16 guests in total.

There are also crew quarters for up to 26.

Khan spends most of his time when he's not entertaining in the lower-deck spa.

"The spa was mandated by the owners to be a place they can just chill out in," Andrews shared.

It has a hammam ( Turkish -style bathtub), a spa bath, a cold plunge pool, a steam shower, and a massage room with an onboard therapist.

To top it all off, Khan has a crow's nest platform dedicated to viewing the stunning scenes of the ocean.

The megayacht Kismet docked at Troon harbour, Scotland

  • 10:30, 13 May 2024

Locals at a Scottish harbour were gobsmacked to see a £288m megayacht dock at the weekend.

The 400-foot-long ''Kismet' arrived in Troon Saturday (May 11) on its maiden voyage after being constructed at German shipyard Lurssen. The vessel reportedly belongs to Fulham FC owner, the Pakistani-American billionaire businessman Shahid Khan. Mr Khan is also principal owner of American football team Jacksonville Jaguars.

Kismet was spotted by local and keen kayaker Mark McInnes. He says: "I'm from Troon, a short walk along the road to the beach to launch the kayaks. Myself and my girlfriend Dawn decided to paddle out to the harbour on Saturday morning to get a closer look at the yacht.

"Not every day these are in Troon and it was such a lovely sunny calm morning on the water. It was amazing to see it up close, so new and clean. There was even a man abseiling off the side of it to clean the windows. We would have loved to get an invite on board but that didn't happen, so we will just have to imagine what it looks like inside."

Featuring interior styling by British designer Reymond Langton Design, Kismet can host up to 12 guests in eight cabins. Passenger are able to arrive by helicopter and can enjoy a dancefloor, beauty salon, spa, elevator, underwater lights, beach club and gym.

The yacht is also available for charter, with prices starting at £2.4m per week, plus expenses.

A Boat Designed to Be a Breath of Fresh Air

The creators of the latest vessel from Azimut Yachts went to great lengths to reduce its emissions, but even they won’t call it green.

A white yacht in an outdoor swimming pool. Behind is a building with the sign “Teatro.” To the right, a group of people take photos.

By Ian Volner

Reporting from Milan

This article is part of our Design special section about water as a source of creativity.

In the middle of Milan Design Week last month, in the middle of the Bagni Misteriosi — a historic bathing complex in the Porta Romana neighborhood — the Italian luxury shipbuilder Azimut Yachts hosted an unusual exhibition. It was a celebration of the company’s latest offering: the Seadeck 6, which made its debut last year and features interiors by the design team of Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez.

Having been lowered into the facility by crane, the nearly 60-foot vessel was set afloat in an outdoor swimming pool. There it bobbed, traversed by hordes of well-coiffed guests while a concealed apparatus shrouded it in bursts of atmospheric steam. Surreal, elegant, not a little absurd, it was a scene straight out of Fellini, with overtones of Werner Herzog’s boat-hoisting epic “Fitzcarraldo.”

But the thing that made it most unusual? “Azimut wanted to make this the most sustainable boat on the market,” Mr. Rodriguez said. “We tried to do that.”

The ultimate playthings for the ultrawealthy, high-end pleasure craft would not seem optimal candidates for greening. Yet a growing number of manufacturers and designers are trying to change that, producing yachts both large and (comparatively) small assembled from fewer and less carbon-intensive materials, requiring a fraction of the power to run and drawing more of their energy from renewable sources.

In a peculiar twist for an industry uniquely exposed to supply-chain shocks and the vicissitudes of geopolitics (the loss of the once-lucrative Russian market continues to smart), global brand leaders appear to be making the move toward energy efficiency of their own accord, rather than in response to any explicit demand from their clientele.

“We will have to see if the world is ready,” said Giovanna Vitelli, Azimut’s chairwoman, as she stood aboard the Seadeck 6 during its not-quite maiden, not-quite voyage.

It is an approach that entails some risk. In January, Silent Yachts — an Austrian solar-electric catamaran company with facilities in Fano, Italy — was reported to be approaching bankruptcy amid problems with both its corporate parent and a key subcontractor. A former client stepped in to rescue the brand from insolvency, yet challenges remain. In a recent interview with the trade publication Superyacht News, the company’s new chief operating officer, Fabrizio Iarrera, spoke of the “costs associated with creating an entirely new market.”

Still, the push toward more sustainable yachting appears to be barreling forward, part of a broader shift in the role of design in the industry. Seven years ago, Bonetti/Kozerski Architecture in New York — known for its plush hotel interiors for the hospitality magnate Ian Schrager — was invited by Azimut’s sister company Benetti to develop a new yacht concept, the Oasis. It was one of the rare instances in which Benetti, founded in 1873, had sought out collaborators with no previous maritime experience, and all parties took it as an opportunity to import a set of values they viewed as lacking in the boating world.

According to Enrico Bonetti, the architecture firm’s co-founder, boat design previously favored grand spaces that no one actually liked. “There’s always this big table nobody’s using, then you step into another place with shiny things,” he said. “We didn’t follow that.” With its open, airy living space, wood paneling and notable lack of gold leaf, the Oasis represented a more humane vision for the yacht of the future, one constrained by at least the appearance of refinement and reserve, though it was ritzy nonetheless.

That low-key tendency is very much in line with the decarbonization campaign now underway at Azimut and other builders. In recent years, design studios like Zaha Hadid Architects and Pininfarina have turned out yacht proposals that pair sleek visuals with reduced reliance on fossil fuels; later this year, Yves Béhar, the Swiss-born product and furniture maestro, will unveil his own take on the trend — a catamaran designed for an as-yet unnamed manufacturer. “It’s essentially an E.V.,” said Mr. Béhar, who was also in Milan for the design fair.

Underlying the designer eco-yacht phenomenon is the intuitive sense, as Antonio Rodriguez put it, that “silent luxury” is fast displacing opulence. Where previous generations of yachters sought to flaunt their wealth, today’s owners may be less keen to draw attention to their own affluence. In reducing their carbon footprint, boatmakers are hoping to lure customers eager to reduce their profile, while still allowing them to ply the seven seas in style.

The Seadeck 6 certainly does that. With a crisp, white exterior — the work of the veteran yacht designer Alberto Mancini — the ship sleeps up to eight in three below-deck cabins. Topside, guests can sprawl in fore and aft lounges, or take lunch prepared in a semi-concealed galley, served on an elegant foldout table. The interior palette is muted, the contours soft, and everywhere, Ms. Vitelli said, the intention was to let people “feel close to water” rather than immuring them in an oceangoing penthouse.

Relatively speaking, the Seadeck’s ecological credentials are also impressive. Nearly every feature has been retooled for minimal environmental impact: replacing the customary teak deck with sustainably sourced cork; covering the walls and upholstering the seating with organic and recycled materials; even sealing the hull with something the company refers to as an ‘eco-gel finish.’” Most important, the craft incorporates a still-novel (for marine propulsion) hybrid engine, capable of a top speed of 33 knots with the ability to navigate about 200 miles offshore — enough for a quick spin from Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamas.

Add it together, and the company claims the Seadeck 6 and its larger cousin, the 71-foot Seadeck 7, achieve an operational carbon output 60 percent that of comparable vessels.

It’s a start, but only that. A comparative analysis with a similarly sized Azimut product — coupled with statistics from the Environmental Protection Agency — suggests that the cruise from Fort Lauderdale to Nassau would contribute roughly 4,400 pounds of carbon dioxide on the Seadeck 6, well over what the average American produces in a month.

And then there are the more immediate costs: around $2.8 million for the Seadeck 6 and $4.25 million for the Seadeck 7. Ms. Vitelli said the company hopes that enough buyers will come aboard to make price reductions possible in future.

A lot is riding on these hopes. Elsewhere in Milan, at the giant exhibition hall of the Salone del Mobile furniture fair, a talk session with a group of yacht experts underscored the stakes: During the panel, Stefano de Vivo, the chief commercial officer of the luxury yacht brand Ferretti Group, presented a slide showing Italy’s dominance in the custom-yacht sector, with domestic manufacturers taking a large share of the $9 billion global marketplace.

Mr. de Vivo declared sustainability essential to shipbuilding’s ongoing success and spoke of a general convergence with the design field at large. “As a shipyard, we’ve had to become less ‘marine,’” he said.

Back at the Bagni Misteriosi, mariners did seem in somewhat short supply, as various design lovers and Salone personalities (including the celebrated architect Michele de Lucchi, who helped create an on-site installation for Azimut) swanned around the bathhouse garden and its waterborne centerpiece. As an image of an ecologically sensitive future, the spectacle seemed off the mark — but then the Seadeck’s creators are careful not to make any overly sweeping claims as to whether their yacht, or any yacht for that matter, can truly be deemed an ecological asset.

“We don’t really like the word ‘sustainable,’” Mr. Rodriguez said. “We prefer to say it’s ‘conscious.’”
