With engineering excellence, performance prowess and luxury accommodations, the 93 Motor Yacht has solidified the Viking Yacht Company's position as the finest builder of luxury motor yachts in the marine industry. The recent world premiere of the 214,685-pound vessel marked the successful completion of a 2-1/2-year quest to build the largest-ever yacht since the company was founded in 1964.

"We have a history of building ground-breaking boats, and never has this been so true as with the 93 Motor Yacht," says Viking President and CEO Pat Healey.

The tri-deck motor yacht, powered with twin state-of-the-art 1,945-hp MTU diesels, combines the performance of a convertible sportfish with the luxury and accommodations of a motor yacht. She tops out from 26.5-27.5 knots and cruises from 21-24 knots. The 93 MY runs fast, but she also has the legs for long-distance destination cruises, with a range exceeding 400 nautical miles at cruising speeds.

With a 24-foot, 4-inch beam, the vessel holds five staterooms and seven heads, two expansive salons and after decks, a huge forward galley, 12 televisions, storage for a tender and crew quarters for three. "Everything from the engineroom to the staterooms to the showers to the galley to the salon is big, accommodating and comfortable," says Pat. "In the U.S. Ñ and in all of the Americas Ñ people like big, and that's what we're giving them."

You'll be hard-pressed to find this level of engineering in any other motor yacht. In our industry-leading engineroom, our custom exhaust system serves as an example of our experience and attention to detail. Painted with Awlgrip in bright Snow White for easier visibility and maintenance, the engineroom is equipped with technologically advanced but easy-to-maintain systems for engineroom ventilation, air conditioning, fire suppression, oil changing and centralized seawater and freshwater.

Enclosed Bridge The enclosed bridge, accessed from the salon and lower after deck, showcases an impressive center helm with a Stidd helm chair and flanking Stidd companion seats. Navigation and communication systems from the Viking subsidiary Atlantic Marine Electronics assure turnkey delivery. Open the large powered sunroof to invite in the sunshine and sea breeze as you relax in the L-shaped sofa that faces a pop-up flat-screen HD TV. A day head adds to the overall convenience of this unique area.

Main Deck Enjoy the outdoors on the expansive forward and aft decks. The foredeck is loaded with comfortable padded seating and lounges that sit atop storage compartments, easily accessed with gas piston-assisted hatch lids. The aft deck dinette includes a U-shaped settee and twin solid teak leaf tables that allow you to create one single, large dining table. Forward, there's a bar with an L-shaped counter, three polished stainless steel bar stools, a fold-out television, refrigeration, an ice maker, a storage cabinet and a sink. Dual staircases on the port and starboard sides lead down to the hydraulically powered swim platform, which provides access to the garage that can house a dinghy or other small watercraft.

Enter the salon through polished stainless-steel framed sliding glass doors. The salon offers a U-shaped seating area with two end tables, a cocktail table, a home entertainment center with pop-up 65-inch flat-screen HD TV and a formal dining area for eight. Starboard-side hydraulic-powered sliding doors lead to a teak-covered sidedeck, and a powered balcony door that opens outboard with the touch of a button.

The galley, forward of the salon, has the pleasant atmosphere of a country kitchen. Four fixed bar stools with footrests rim an island Caesarstone-topped counter. Just aft of the windshield, there's also a forward banquette with a table. The latest appliances and conveniences are easily accessible and include a full-size 7-foot-tall Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer, microwave/convection oven and a four-burner cooktop with a conventional oven below. A 32-inch flat-screen TV fixed outboard of the cabinetry on the port side can be viewed from both the bar and the banquette. A day head is just a few steps away on the starboard side.

Accommodations You'll find spaciousness and elegance throughout the five-stateroom layout below. The privately accessed full beam master suite is royally appointed with designer touches, including plush wall-to-wall premium carpeting, a king-size bed, a surround-sound entertainment system with 65-inch flat-screen HD TV, a walk-in closet, a port-side vanity and a starboard table with two chairs and an ensuite head. Generous amounts of natural light fill stateroom, accentuating the high-gloss walnut woodwork.

Four additional staterooms will ensure utmost comfort and privacy for family and guests. The forward VIP stateroom has a queen walk-around bed with decorative Channell glass ensconced in the headboard, an overhead skylight, a maple-lined hanging locker and an ensuite head. Crew quarters discreetly reached from the after deck include a pair of staterooms, a head with shower and a galley with a dinette.

Viking Yachts’ Revolutionary New Sport-Fish and Motoryacht Models are Turning Heads Around the Globe

  • By Yachting Staff
  • Updated: January 7, 2019

The Viking Yacht Company is not in the business of doing anything second-rate. There is no compromising on quality. Period.

So, when Viking decided to re-enter the motoryacht segment, not only would it be chasing the big competitors, it also would be playing catch-up on 17 years of motoryacht innovations and advancements. Fortunately, this is not a big stretch for Viking. The company is constantly pushing the envelope on its legendary sport-fish vessels , looking to build a better boat every day, with continuous improvements in everything from hull design to engine-room layout to cabinetry materials to electrical systems. It would be no different with its motoryachts.

Viking last delivered a motoryacht — the 60 Cockpit Sport Yacht — in 2001, and it was a big part of a motoryacht line that achieved tremendous success from the mid-80s to 2001. Viking no doubt could do it again, but should it? The answer from leadership was a resounding yes. Just like with its battle-tested sport-fish boats, Viking recognized the fact that in today’s marketplace, there is strong demand for high-quality, American-made motoryachts and sport-fish/motoryacht hybrids with an emphasis on style, performance, comfort, luxury and engineering excellence. And Viking’s production setup gives it a clear advantage in something as complex as starting a new line. Ninety percent of the parts and pieces are made on site. And with subsidiaries such as Atlantic Marine Electronics and Palm Beach Towers providing crucial components, all are turnkey ready.

When it comes to selling these masterpieces, Viking relies on its industry-leading network of distributors, none more so than its top dealer and undisputed sales leader, HMY Yacht Sales.

HMY has sold the legendary brand for 26 years and is the leader in Viking sales. In 2018, HMY will sell more than 100 new and pre-owned Vikings, driven by its expertise, close relationships with Viking and the largest network of Viking customers compared to any other firm.

HMY has more Viking Yachts experts on staff than any other firm, including several who were captains with Viking, and many more who regularly fish Viking sport-fish yachts in some of the biggest tournaments around the world.

As Viking boldly re-enters the motoryacht market and continues to redefine the sport-fish market, HMY is uniquely positioned to educate buyers about the newest Viking creations and help them find the perfect vessel for their lifestyle and tastes.

Here’s a brief look at four of Viking’s latest motoryachts and sport-fishers — 93MY, 92 Enclosed Bridge, 82 Cockpit MY and 75MY.

Viking Yachts 93-Foot Motoryacht

The newest addition to Viking’s motoryacht fleet is also the biggest. In fact, it’s the largest Viking ever built, marking the successful completion of a two-and-a-half-year journey to build the largest-ever yacht since the company was founded in 1964, and continuing the Viking tradition of building revolutionary boats.

The tri-deck motoryacht combines the performance of a convertible sport-fisher with the luxurious accommodations of a motoryacht. The 93MY is fast without sacrificing seafaring distance. Powered with twin state-of-the-art 1,945 hp MTU diesels, it tops out from 26.5 to 27.5 knots and cruises from 21 to 24 knots, with a range exceeding 400 nautical miles at cruising speeds.

Viking Yachts 93-Foot Motoryacht

And it’s big, accommodating and comfortable. With a 24-foot-4-inch beam, the 93 holds five staterooms and seven heads, two expansive salons and aft decks, a huge forward galley, 12 televisions, storage for a tender, and crew quarters for three.

The exterior profile is both sleek and timeless, and perhaps most importantly, it looks and feels like a Viking. The impressive helm offers outstanding visibility.

Viking 93MY

On the main deck, remarkable stainless-steel-framed electrically activated sliding glass doors lead you to the equally outstanding salon, where you’ll find a leather-appointed lounge, a cocktail table, occasional chairs and a formal dining table that seats eight.

Viking Yachts 92-Foot Enclosed Bridge Sport-fisher

With its two-level mezzanine and 238-square-foot tournament-ready cockpit with fighting chair, the Viking Yachts 92-foot Enclosed Bridge thrives as both a luxury cruising yacht and bluewater sport-fishing convertible, seamlessly combining the expected luxurious accommodations of a premier motoryacht with the guile and hardcore fishing setup of Viking’s best battlewagons.

Yes, the enclosed bridge is visually striking, but it’s also amazingly functional, combining all the visibility benefits of an elevated control station with the weather protection and comfort of a Viking enclosed bridge. Owners have the option of choosing from either a sky-bridge arrangement or a tower.

Viking 92

The sky-bridge command station shares many of the design traits of Viking’s open flybridge convertibles, such as the walkaround center-console with raised teak helm pod, and recessed and protected areas for multifunction displays, engine and steering controls, and electronics controllers. The enclosed bridge has a forward wraparound console that includes a Stidd helm seat and flanking companion seating.

Once inside this beauty, you’ll instantly understand why Viking describes this spacious interior as a “showpiece of elegance and luxury.” The 24-foot beam allows the salon to transform into a stately, expansive living room. The L-shaped galley offers plenty of storage for provisions, with two walk-in pantries, while a formal dining area can accommodate up to eight guests.

Viking 92

Below, Viking masterfully arranged five en-suite staterooms plus a day head. The full-beam master suite features a king-size walkaround bed, a walk-in closet, a dressing table and his-and-hers private facilities. Crew quarters are aft, with access from the cockpit.

Viking Yachts 82-Foot Cockpit Motoryacht

Consider the bar raised again for luxury and seagoing excellence. The follow-up and sistership to the 75MY, the Viking Yachts 82-foot Cockpit motoryacht is offered with either an open bridge for more outdoor enjoyment or an enclosed bridge for climate control.

The 82CPMY effortlessly transitions from a luxurious cruiser to a bluewater battlewagon, creating the ideal platform for tournament fishing one day and heading on a three-week vacation the next. It features the cockpit space of a large convertible (108 square feet), along with plenty of room for relaxing, maximized by the versatile deck design that features an observation mezzanine, aft-deck dinette with U-shaped settee, and a 9-foot-wide lounge molded into the mezzanine that features loads of amenities.

viking 82

The open-bridge layout is all about connecting with the open ocean, friends and family, with a centerline helm forward flanked with casual seating areas. Behind the helm, a family-size dinette, wet bar with refrigeration, sink and electric grill allow the party to start and stay on the bridge if desired. Farther aft, there is a sun pad, room for lounge chairs and a teak-planked staircase to the lower aft deck.

The climate-controlled enclosed bridge adds the convenience of a second salon, with plush seating, an entertainment center and the utility of a fully protected upper command station. A sliding glass door opens to the aft deck, with a wet bar and room for lounges.

The stylish main deck keeps the entertaining rolling, whether outdoors or in, with forward and aft deck lounges and 8 tons of chilled-water air conditioning providing a climate-controlled environment where a lavish walnut salon, formal and casual dining areas, and a world-class galley set a festive mood. Standard amenities in the low-profile open galley include engineered-stone countertops, under-counter refrigerator and freezer units, high-gloss walnut cabinetry and a starboard-side pantry. Viking also offers a closed-galley design.

Viking 82

Below deck, four luxuriously appointed en-suite staterooms exquisitely balance elegance and practicality. Natural light streams in through the large hull-side windows and foredeck skylight.

Atlantic Marine Electronics outfitted the 82 with custom-designed navigation and entertainment systems, meaning it’s turnkey ready for its new owner.

Viking Yachts 75-Foot Motoryacht

As much as Viking’s announcement that it was re-entering the motoryacht market sent tremors through the yachting industry, the unveiling of the breathtaking, speedy Viking Yachts 75MY was met with 10.0-magnitude earthquake shock waves.

Recognizing the strong demand for a high-quality, American-made motoryacht with an emphasis on style and performance, Viking answered by introducing a true masterpiece.

viking 72

Like its sport-fishing brethren’s pedigree, the 75MY is a performance-oriented design, with a sleek, curvy exterior profile and other style cues taken from Viking convertibles, including the signature molded feature lines on the hull and superstructure, teardrop salon-window design and more. This sport-fishing heritage is one of the key differentiators between a Viking motoryacht and the competition.

Its new owners will be blown away by the 75’s performance, maneuverability and seagoing prowess. The hull features a brand-new design that maximizes space and power to accommodate the optional twin Caterpillar C32-A engines pushing a smooth 1,925 hp each. This level of power and range makes it possible to travel even farther and longer in Viking’s most luxurious models.

viking 75

In addition to the incomparable high-end performance, the 75 includes everything you’d expect from a luxury motoryacht, including four en-suite staterooms (including a full-beam master suite), crew quarters with private access, a fantastic helm and bridge layout, open galley and dining area, Seakeeper stabilizer, shallow draft, sky roof and an engine-room layout that is unsurpassed. The gorgeous tri-level layout showcases a smart fusion of design and space for comfort and practicality. Spacious accommodations provide family and guests with an undeniably elegant experience.

ABOUT THE 93 Motor Yacht

The Viking 93MY is a 93-foot luxury motor yacht with a 24-foot beam that was launched by New Jersey-based Viking Yachts in 2018. The 93MY is the largest yacht ever built by Viking, not to mention the most luxurious, and is of course something of a departure for a company famed more for their agile sportfishing vessels. Yet this is as stylish and sleek a design as anything you will see floating on the Mediterranean and boasts signature Viking design motifs such as ample space, an enclosed bridge, a superbly balanced, Michael Peters-designed planing hull and that elusive, Made-in-America craftsmanship that sets Viking apart from its competitors.

The enclosed bridge on this model is one of the largest you will ever find on a yacht of this class, and features a raised helm station that has been custom-made by Atlantic Marine Electronics for peerless navigation. The dashboard features Garmin touch-screen instrumentation, a ZF joystick, bow and stern thrusters, power-assisted steering and CCTV screens across from three leather-clad Stidd helm chairs that enjoy gin-clear visibility through wrap-around mullioned windows. Elsewhere on the bridge there is a large L-shaped sofa, a glazed retractable sunroof, glossy walnut cabinetry and a convenient day-head. Transparent sliding glass doors in bulky stainless-steel frames fully open up to lead out to an exposed aft-sun deck on the flybridge level, featuring a low-slung, U-shaped leather sofa and an angled wet-bar with Caesar-stone worktops, an icemaker, a sink, four bar stools and an outdoor Kenyon Grill.

The main deck is similarly well-appointed and includes a sprawling foredeck area with a Portuguese Bridge-style sofa and a marina-facing leather sunpad that can accommodate up to five sunbathers. At the rear there is a sheltered aft-deck lined in durable teak with yet another walk-in wet-bar, a transom dining sofa with a table, and side steps down to a hydraulic swimming platform. You will also find the transom garage down here where you can store a pair of water toys, though this garage is large enough when fully opened to transform the swimming platform area into a fun aft-beach club.

Internal main deck spaces have been crafted by WBC Design, and impress with your choice of teak, walnut or maple surfaces in high-gloss or satin finishes and durable Avalon flooring. There is a curved staircase to the bridge to starboard, while to port you will enjoy relaxing on the huge U-shaped leather sofa with room for up to 8 guests. Positioned centrally is a formal dining table to port and, to starboard, a floor-to-ceiling double glass door that leads to a cutaway-bulwark cocktail terrace. At the front of the main deck cockpit, you will find an open country-kitchen galley that is larger than many studio apartments. A four-zone hob, a 7-foot-tall Sub-Zero fridge-freezer, a microwave, a convection oven, a central island, a double-sink, a breakfast bar, a day-head and a U-shaped forward sofa are all to be found in this incredible family-sized kitchen.

The front half of the lower-deck features three en-suite staterooms plus a snug bunk berth for up to 8 guests, and rooms benefit from large porthole windows or knife-insert windows. Positioned amidship, however, is possibly the largest owner’s stateroom ever to be found on a yacht of this class. This full-beam suite benefits from two trapezoidal hull windows, a private staircase, a king-sized bed with bedside tables, a walk-in dressing room with hanging closets, a work-desk, a breakfast table with two seats, plenty of hidden storage and a bathroom with two sinks and a shower cubicle. Located up against the engine room, meanwhile, is a crew quarters with sleeping space for up to 3 members of staff that comes with its own dinette and bathroom.

No expense has been spared in equipping this mammoth yacht with the most powerful engines available. Buyers can choose from standard MAN V12 twins, a pair of CAT C32Bs or top-of-the-range MTU V12 M96X 2002MHP diesels for top speeds of almost 28 knots. The Viking 93MY can also be fitted with a Seakeeper SK 35 stabilizer for reduced roll in choppy waters, while a pair of pop-up wing helm stations in the cockpit prove helpful when docking. Thanks to this yacht’s durable hull, crafted for bluewater conditions, and a fuel capacity of 2,007 gallons, this is a superb long-range luxury yacht that can take you all the way to the Bahamas.

King fisher: Inside the Viking 93 sportfish yacht

A 28.5 metre with the DNA of a high-performance sportfisher is a welcome addition to Viking’s born-again Motor Yacht line, says Kate Lardy...

Sportfishers are the powerhouses of the yachting world, built to withstand the strenuous demands of chasing blue water behemoths in the Gulf Stream. So imagine what happens if you take the performance and quality of these battleaxes and apply it to cruising motor yachts. Viking , the prolific builder of sportfishers on New Jersey’s Bass River in the US, is doing just that.

“No one builds more enclosed sportfish yachts than we do,” says Viking’s president Pat Healey, so it wasn’t a huge leap when he took the decision four years ago to re-enter the cruising yacht market, which is currently seeing strong growth in the US. “Especially with our customers,” he says. “As the baby boomers grow and age, they want to stay boating but they may not fish as hard as they did.”

About half the yachts launched in the yard’s reborn Motor Yacht line – since the company unveiled the first 24 metre 75MY in 2014 – have been sold to Viking clients seeking a more leisurely on-the-water experience. Viking is further investing in this market, recently launching the biggest yacht it has built in its 54-year history , the 28.5 metre 93 Motor Yacht.

Its raison d’être differs from a sportfisher but the styling is pure Viking – its swept-back superstructure recalling the lines of convertibles is a deliberate choice, says Chris Critchett of Michael Peters Yacht Design , which works with Viking for the styling, space planning and hull design of all of its motor yachts. And like all Vikings, which Healey personally tests, its design ethos seems to be bigger is better. “As an American yacht company we try to build things large,” says Christopher Landry, director of communications. “Americans like things big… saloons, decks, refrigerators, televisions.”

What better place is there to showcase this than on the company’s flagship? “With 93ft, you don’t feel that your living experience on board is compromised by the fact that you’re [trying] to fit everything on the boat,” says Critchett. For instance, starting on the main deck aft, bountiful U-shaped seating wraps around the transom in lieu of a more common bench. The accompanying twin tables (a good set-up for access) unfold to create one large banquet table.

In the country kitchen-style galley forward, a supersized 2.1 metre Sub-Zero refrigerator takes pride of place. The galley itself is comfortably commodious, with a congenial raised dinette under the forward windows augmented by four stools flanking an island bar.

The master suite, with private entrance, is full beam, with a king-sized bed facing a 65-inch television. A walk-in wardrobe and spacious ensuite with dual basins share the full width behind the bed, buffering the bedroom from the crew quarters for three that lie on the other side of the bulkhead.

The only room in the boat that seems small is the starboard-side bunk cabin in the guest quarters, which are accessed via a separate staircase. But this diminutive cabin brings the total number of suites on board to an impressive five, and it is quite suitable for children. The three other guest cabins here are of pleasant dimensions and include big showers. As for communal guest spaces, both the main and bridge decks feature opening glass doors leading to the aft decks, which make for big indoor-outdoor spaces on both levels.

A bar on the bridge deck sits right at this transition point, with three stools facing outward. When the powered window recedes into the bar as the adjacent bi-folding door opens, those sitting at the bar will feel like they are outside while being completely sheltered from the elements.

The yard builds semi-custom boats, so there is room for variation. “It’s not an open canvas but the canvas is pretty good,” Healey says. “Obviously bulkheads cannot be moved.” And there are options in terms of engine power. The first 93 matches the yacht’s big dimensions with big power from MTU. “The performance of this boat is another separation point for us,” Landry says. The 93’s top speed exceeds 27 knots, thanks to the twin 1,945hp 12 cylinder MTUs. Cruise speed is between 21 and 24 knots.

The hull bottom contributes, of course. “We have spent $48.5 million on R&D, design, engineering and tooling of all of our new models in the last four years,” Healey says. “If we didn’t spend it, we wouldn’t have the product that we have today.” Designers and builders put the 93’s new hull through its paces in what Critchett describes as “a very rough water sea trial where a professional crew probably wouldn’t have taken out their guests. We specifically wanted a day like that, and it was a great day. It’s amazing what a 93ft, couple hundred thousand pound boat will do; it is extremely comfortable.”

The engine room is a particular point of pride for the builder. The machinery room gleams with Awlgrip finish, and there’s easy walkaround access for all maintenance. But it’s what you don’t see at first glance that really sets it apart. “It’s the quality of the equipment, components and installation. Everything is done properly for easy serviceability. It’s 100 per cent done right,” Healey says.

On top of the layout that caters to Americans’ penchant for size, there are a number of extra features on this model that add to the experience. One of the most prominent is the balcony. Hydraulic sliding glass doors open on the starboard side of the main saloon next to the dining area, and the bulwark unfolds, also hydraulically, bringing the outdoors in.

A sunroof over the helm a level above accomplishes the same thing. With both the roof and aft door open, the bridge deck saloon gets plenty of fresh air and is at one with the aft deck. This deck is dedicated to entertaining, as the tender is stowed below in a garage behind the transom door.

The foredeck hosts another al fresco lounge including a sofa that can be sheltered with removable carbon fibre poles. These are stored, along with the balcony’s rails, under the adjacent sunpad, which is one huge storage space. Forward of this is a skylight above the VIP suite’s queen-sized bed.

The interior, built in-house, is as meticulously done as you might expect, featuring walnut, engineered wood from Avalon, thick carpeting, electrically powered curtains, and a variety of stone finishes from Caesarstone. There’s no rattling, drawers close decisively and doors latch precisely into place.

As Healey says, hardy sportfisher DNA can be found everywhere, “from the bottom of the boat and the engine room, to the quality of cabinetry, the exterior styling and the enclosed bridge. Remember, we (also) built motor yachts for 30 years. We took a hiatus for about 13 years; now we’re back!”

The next step in the series is already well in the works. The 100 will be an extended 93 with a fishing cockpit – a nice hybrid of Viking’s sportfishing and Motor Yacht lines.

pershing 115 yacht

yachting/images/magazine/2005/122005/fea_pershing_525x350.jpg

It takes something very special to impress the jilted residents of the exclusive French town of St. Tropez. Years ago we brought this depot for the rich and famous to a standstill arriving with Virgin Atlantic Challenger II, but we had just set a record across the Atlantic. Sprinting into the port with the striking new, 40-knot Pershing 115 did not quite have the same impact, but this beautiful yacht did stop onlookers in their tracks as they stood and stared.

With the 115, Pershing joins a select band of boatbuilders who are going over the 100-foot mark, taking a quantum leap from the 88-foot former flagship design. This yacht has twice the volume of anything Pershing has ever built. Moreover I was on the first hull and for a prototype design they have done a really superb job of meeting their design and perfomance goals.

Pershing boss Till Antonelli is justifiably proud of the 115. “We knew there was a market out there for a larger Pershing and I think we took a bold step in making the jump straight from 88 to 115 feet. The result is there for all to see and it is a tribute to our new factory and the people who work there, Antonelli says.

The power behind this monster is a pair of 16 cylinder MTU diesels from the 4000 range that produce 3,700 hp each. These engines are huge and they seem to stretch forever along the engine compartment. They are coupled to ZF gearboxes and then the drive goes to KaMeWa water jets in what proved to be a very smooth power train. The water jets are unique in that the inlet ducts of the jets are an integral part of the hull molding which gives a better water flow to the impellers and improves their efficiency.

The two diesels have ample space between them and you see the reason for this when you look aft and see the molding in place for a third water jet. This gives the option to install a centerline TF50 gas turbine to bring the total power up to 13,000 hp. Now you are talking real excitement, and this installation is planned for the next unit that is already under construction. Look for speeds of over 55 knots from this second yacht, speeds that are squarely situated in the Pershing performance territory.

Access to the engine compartment is via a door in the cockpit which leads first to an auxiliary room with the switchboard, watermaker and air conditioning. Forward of this are the crew’s quarters and galley. Stairs lead up from the galley directly into the saloon, close by the dining table, and there is also a dumbwaiter for larger trays. The galley is fitted with all you need for sophisticated meal preparation and the styling, even in these working areas of the yacht, is a close match to the stunning guest areas.

Back aft, the swim platform that protects the water jets is bigger than the average sportsboat. Stairs lead up on both sides to the cockpit, and between them is the garage for the Zodiac tender together with its launching crane. You don’t need to skimp on the water toys on this yacht because there is a second garage that is revealed by raising part of the forward coach roof, housing two jet skis with another launching crane.

The 115 is full of more surprises and one of them comes from opening the door on the right of the saloon entrance. Here there is a stairway winding up to a very private sun deck sitting above the pilothouse. I was trying to determine why there was no sunroof on this yacht similar to those found on other Pershings-this sun deck was the reason. There is another, more public sunpad in the cockpit together with settees and a table, but the upper area is going to be everybody’s favorite.

The sliding saloon doors make an impressive entrance and walking into the saloon takes your breath away. There is none of the rich wood panelling so often found on superyachts, but here the designers have created a beautiful and light, almost minimalistic area with only the dining chairs and the blue leather locker fronts providing color. The settees are white leather, the woodwork a very pale gray-tinted ash, and the sides and overhead a very pale cream.

Quality is enhanced by integral modern artwork above the entrance door and on two of the side window pillars. The relaxing lounge area is aft and a dining table for 10 is forward in a open plan arrangement. Forward at the helm there are three imposing adjustable seats that create what looks like an altar to high performance.

The captain sits in the center chair, which is flanked by the engine and jet controls fitted into the armrests. Here he is master of all he surveys and he really can play tunes with the sensitive machinery controls. In front of him there are seven screens that provide all the information needed for high speed navigation and control, plus sophisticated monitoring systems. The latter have been specially developed by Pershing to control and monitor everything on board except the main engines. The engines have their own MTU dedicated displays and there is a separate display for monitoring the water jet. Large Simrad radar and chart displays provide a full picture of the navigation scene.

A couple of steps down from saloon level takes you into what is virtually a private cinema. Wide lounging settees and chairs face a big flat screen that can be fed from video, DVD or cable or satellite TV. This will be a popular evening relaxing area. Another stairway takes you to the staterooms where the layout is about the only conventional thing on this yacht: a master, a VIP and two twin cabins.

These are all decorated in a similar minimalistic style but with strong colors added through the leather bed bases, the mirror trims and the bright silk bed covers. The result is both modern and restful, with the spacious master stateroom occupying the full beam and featuring an angled bed and deep side windows to give natural light. The VIP stateroom in the bow is almost semi-circular in shape and large enough to have its own settee.

The heads have the same pale gray wood and modern fittings, including hemispherical glass basins. The soles here are wood but have metal strip inserts to give good grip when wet. The extravagant quality of the master stateroom can be seen in the fitting of his-and-her heads for the use of the owners.

The interior of this yacht may be stunning but it is the exterior styling that really sets the scene. The hull has the navy blue and silver combination that was pioneered by Pershing and has since been copied by many. This color scheme complements the series of rising curves that forms the superstructure and, like so much about this design, everything looks well integrated. The practical aspects of the design have been well thought out in most areas, but you only really appreciate the true quality of this yacht out on the water at speed.

We ran the 115 from Cannes to St.Tropez, which is a well-worn path for fast motoryachts. You appreciate one of the qualities of water jet drive with the very delicate maneuvering that is possible with this big yacht. Despite her size you can inch her forward or sideways delicately close to the dock, yet she will spin like a top when you need a quick response. It takes some skill and familiarity with the controls to get to this level of control but the effort is well worthwhile.

Out at sea the response is immediate and thrilling. The thrust from the jets powers the yacht onto plane and keeps it accelerating right up to its terminal velocity. The lack of vibration is impressive, and steering control is delicate and precise when you switch from the steerable joystick controls to the wheel steering. For trim adjustment, the 115 uses the latest interceptor system rather than trim tabs and these give an immediate response that reduces the adjustment period.

On our run down to St.Tropez we had a race with the TGV high-speed train along the coast. The train won that one, but there was no doubt we were fastest on the water that day. Pershing has found just the right balance in this yacht. This design has all the style you want to impress others, both inside and out, yet this is combined with very comfortable living on board. As for performance, 40 knots will meet most requirements but if you want to outrun everything on the water then you can always invest in the gas turbine option. Then maybe, you might even beat that train.
