It turns out the female figurehead on Jeff Bezos' yacht isn't his fiancée, Lauren Sanchez.

Bezos ' yacht — named "Koru," which refers to a symbol of new beginnings in the Māori language — boasts a statue on its prow of a woman with long hair and a flowing dress.

The figurehead has drawn comparisons to Sanchez, but Sanchez set the record straight in a Vogue article published Monday.

"I'm very flattered, but it's not," she told Vogue. The sculpture is apparently of the Norse goddess Freyja, one of Bezos' favorite figures from mythology.

The article continues: "'If it was me…' Sánchez joked, and made a gesture of having larger breasts."

Bezos and Sanchez have had quite the summer adventure onboard the yacht since they were first spotted onboard in May.

The 417-foot vessel is believed to be the largest sailing yacht in the world and reportedly cost $500 million.

Sanchez also told Vogue about Bezos' proposal . He hid the ring under her pillow after a starlit dinner, according to the article.

News broke in May that Bezos and Sanchez were engaged after four years of dating.

Lauren Sanchez has clarified whether she’s the figurehead on fiancé Jeff Bezos ’ yacht , Koru.

The former news reporter, 53, addressed the suggestion that she was featured on the yacht during an interview with Vogue , published on 13 November. Her comments came months after her and Bezos’ summer trip through Europe on the boat, which features a wooden sculpture at the prow that depicted a woman carved in the style of a Roman goddess. The carving was also complete with long hair and a flowing gown .

During the interview with Vogue , Sanchez was asked about her apparent resemblance to the sculpture, after the press suggested that it was a carving of her. However, according to Sanchez, that speculation is not true.

“I’m very flattered, but it’s not,” she said, before adding that the figurehead was one of Bezos’ favourite mythological figures, Freyja, the goddess associated with love, sex, war, and gold.

She also poked fun at what the statue would look like “if it was ” her, as she jokingly made the gesture of having larger breasts.

In May 2023, Sanchez and Bezos were photographed aboard the 417-foot-long vessel as it set sail along the coast of Spain. The couple’s voyage came nearly five years after the vessel was first commissioned in 2018 for half a billion dollars. The yacht – named the Koru after the Maori word for “new beginnings” – comes complete with three decks and a pool.

According to Boat International , Koru, previously known as Y721, is the tallest sailing yacht in the world with three masts measuring more than 230 feet. Although the super yacht didn’t come with a helipad, Bezos reportedly purchased a support yacht, worth $75m, specifically to land his helicopter.

The yacht reportedly costs $25m a year to maintain, and guests are able to arrive on it using an array of transportation modes, including helicopters, a fleet of cars, jet skis, and smaller speedboats.

During their trip on Koru over the summer, Bezos also asked Sanchez to marry him after five years of dating . Speaking to Vogue , the former TV host recalled how her partner popped the question in May, noting that he hid the ring under her pillow after dinner one night. She then shared her reaction to the proposal, recalling: “When he opened the box, I think I blacked out a bit.”

In August, the pair went on to have a star-studded engagement party on the super yacht, with the guest list including Leonardo DiCaprio, Bill Gates, and Queen Rania. At the time, People reported that the celebration took place on the Amalfi Coast, Italy.

Following their engagement, Sanchez has acknowledged that she and her fiancé haven’t made any official wedding plans yet. “We’re still thinking about the wedding,” she told Vogue . “What it’s going to be. Is it going to be big? Is it going to be overseas? We don’t know yet. We’ve only been engaged for five months!”

However, she didn’t hesitate to confirm that, once she gets married, she’ll be taking her husband’s last name. “Uh, yes, one hundred per cent,” she said. “I am looking forward to being Mrs Bezos.”

The reporter also went on to open up about her dynamic with the billionaire, who is one of the richest men in the world. According to Forbes , Bezos has a net worth of $165.7bn.

“I think there are a lot of opportunities that come with that, and I take those opportunities very seriously,” she explained. “We always look at each other and go: ‘We’re the team.’ So everything’s shared.”

Jeff Bezos's superyacht, named Koru, has been in the headlines for its immense size and impressive features. As the tallest sailing yacht in the world, Koru stands out with three towering masts that measure over 230 feet each. Situated at the front of the 417-foot boat, the intricately crafted wooden figurehead showcases a woman with long hair wearing an elegant flowing dress. The sculpture has drawn attention for its striking resemblance to Sanchez, with its classical and feminine elements beautifully capturing her features. While the artist's identity remains undisclosed and the subject of the sculpture is unconfirmed by yacht builder Oceanco, its attention to detail and resemblance to Sanchez are undeniable.

Lauren Sánchez debunked the widely held thought that the figurehead mounted on Jeff Bezos $500 million yacht is her.

“I’m very flattered, but it’s not,” Sánchez told Vogue in a lengthy feature published Monday.

Instead, the sculpture at the prow of Koru, which is Maori for “new beginnings,” is one of Bezos’s favorite mythological figures: Freyja, the Norse goddess of love, fertility, war and gold. 

“If it  was  me…,” Sánchez joked to the glossy before making a gesture of having larger breasts.

Sánchez, 53, and the Amazon founder, 59, sailed around on Koru all summer long.

The mega-yacht features three towering masts as well as three decks, one of which features a sprawling swimming pool, according to  Boat International .

Koru costs Bezos a cool $25 million per year to run and can accommodate 18 guests — and requires a crew of 40 sailors.

The yacht also has a 250-foot support vessel that includes Bezos’ helicopter landing pad.

Koru is just one of Bezos and the helicopter pilot’s vessels in a fleet of super-yachts , helicopters and planes.

Over the summer, Bezos and Sánchez hosted a star-studded engagement party aboard Koru while it was anchored in Portofino, Italy.

A source exclusively told us at the time that the nautical fête was “intimate” with only a “small crowd” in attendance.

VIP guests included Bill Gates and girlfriend Paula Hurd, as well as Kris Jenner, Corey Gamble, Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and more.

Although they’ve been engaged since the summer, Sánchez told Vogue she and the billionaire haven’t started planning their nuptials.

“We’re still thinking about the wedding,” she shared, “what it’s going to be. Is it going to be big? Is it going to be overseas? We don’t know yet. We’ve only been engaged five months!”

When they do finally tie the knot, the former reporter intends to take his last name, saying, “I am looking forward to being Mrs. Bezos.”

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos recently sailed with his girlfriend Lauren Sanchez, on his superyacht which is marvel to behold. TMZ reported Tuesday that the couple spent time on the 417-foot ship near the coast of Spain’s Mallorca island. Reportedly, it was Bezos and Sanchez’s first visit on the billionaire's vessel. Named Koru, it is the world’s tallest sailing yacht and built at a cost of $500 million.

Koru was built in Netherlands and it is a three-mast sailing yacht which can reach speed of 20 knots. Interestingly, it can move under sail-power alone. The superyacht costs about $25 million a year to run. It can accommodate 18 guests and requires a crew of 40 sailors to operate it. The beautiful yacht has three decks including one with a swimming pool and is accompanied by a support ship named Abeona which houses a helipad, luxury cars, jet skis etc.

As per reports, the yacht has a wooden sculpture of his girlfriend Sanchez, which symbolises new beginnings. The yacht also contains a cinema, meeting spaces and lounges.

During its construction, the yacht became part of controversy as there were plans to dismantle the 95-year-old Koningshaven Bridge to allow the ship get past the 131-foot span, on its journey from the Oceanco shipyard in Alblasserdam through Rotterdam to the North Sea. Finally, after protests by locals, the plan was shelved and the yacht was towed without its masts from its construction site to another shipyard.

Notably, Bezos and his girlfriend Sanchez started dating in 2018 and went public about their relationship in 2019 after the billionarie's divorce from his ex-wife MacKenzie.

Jeff Bezos’ New Yacht Is Finally Ready to Set Sail

Amazon’s founder has been spotted on Koru, a massive schooner with a design that evokes the golden age of sailing in the early 20th century.

Just in time for the high season of yachting in the Mediterranean, when multimillion-dollar megayachts descend on ports like Monte Carlo and St. Tropez, Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, has been photographed with his partner Lauren Sánchez on his new boat, Koru, off the coast of Spain.

Mr. Bezos’ vessel is a sailing yacht, a departure from the diesel-powered, floating palaces popular with other billionaires. But it is still massive. At 417 feet, Koru is the world’s largest sailing yacht, according to Boat International , and it cost an estimated $500 million to build, Bloomberg reported . (Parsifal III, the boat featured on Bravo’s reality series “Below Deck Sailing Yacht,” is 177 feet long — less than half the length of Koru — and cost $18 million , according to the website SuperYachtFan.)

A spokesperson for Mr. Bezos did not comment for this article; neither did Oceanco, Koru’s builder. Here is what to know about the boat.

For traditionalists, Koru is refreshing. At a time when yacht design skews outrageous — see the lizardlike, 262-foot Artefact or the otherworldly 463-foot Yas — Koru stands out as a schooner, a sailing vessel with two or more masts. Photos reveal a large sailboat with three masts, an on-deck pool and a voluptuous mermaid on the bow, that bears a resemblance to Ms. Sánchez. But otherwise, the sleek, classic lines suggest the patrician age of yachting in the early 20th century, said Robert B. MacKay, author of “The Golden Age of Newport Yachting: Between the Wars.”

“With the clipper bow and the dark hull and the masts,” Mr. MacKay said, referring to Koru’s concave, pointy forward section, “it reminds me of a boat built in 1930 for J.P. Morgan Jr., Corsair IV. It is almost like a reincarnation. It’s certainly at odds with the stuff the oligarchs are building — those look like bloated Clorox bottles.”

Compared with the world’s very largest motor yachts — built for sheer size and the accompanying bragging rights — Koru could almost be considered quaint. Azzam, one of the world’s largest motor yachts, is nearly 200 feet longer.

The Experience

Koru will be propelled primarily by the wind. “Sailboats are usually greener than most powerboats,” said Don Anderson, a former captain of M5 , the world’s largest single-masted sailboat, at 256 feet. “I’d like to think that Koru will be one of the most ecological yachts out there, with its sails and also with the technology that will be aboard.”

“When you’re on a sailboat, you’re more in touch with the wind and the waves than on a powerboat,” he continued. “You’re more susceptible to the elements, too. But you can leave California, and once you get past the Catalinas you can basically surf downwind all the way to Hawaii. All you need to do is run with the waves.”

Mr. Bezos has been a guest on similar boats, according to Bloomberg: In 2019, he was spotted on Eos , a 305-foot sailing yacht owned by Barry Diller and Diane von Furstenberg.

Bill Tripp, a Connecticut-based naval architect, said the appeal of this type of boat is clear: “When you are on a powerboat, you ask, ‘Are we there yet?’ and on a sailboat, you’re enjoying the ride and the ocean so much that you don’t ask that question.”

Koru will be trailed by Abeona, a 246-foot support vessel. Superyachts often have support vessels following along behind them. These “shadows,” as they are colloquially known, are for the “toys” — the ATVs, supercars, seaplanes, motorcycles, smaller boats, scuba gear, personal submarines and even helicopters that pleasure boaters might bring on a trip. According to its builder, this model of boat can carry these gadgets along with dozens of crew members. (Ms. Sanchez flies helicopters, and the couple was recently photographed taking a helicopter to board Abeona and then Koru.)

Abeona, a motor yacht, will have enough range to follow Koru from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean — a common course for yachts — on a single tank of gas.

The Kerfuffle

Koru set off a controversy last year — before it was even completed — in a face-off with the Dutch city of Rotterdam. The boat was built at Oceanco’s facility in Alblasserdam, the Netherlands, and needed to pass the historic Koningshaven Bridge, known as “De Hef,” in Rotterdam, to undergo testing in the North Sea.

When the city announced it would dismantle the bridge to allow the boat and its mainmast — an estimated 230 feet tall — to pass through unscathed, locals were angry. They planned a protest to throw eggs at the yacht as it cruised by. In the end, the bridge was not taken apart, and the yacht was towed to a different location to have its masts attached.

Koru is Maori for “coil” or “loop” and refers to the unfurling of a fern frond. The koru design is common in traditional Maori art, where it symbolizes new life, growth and peace. Mr. Bezos included a photo of a koru frond in an Instagram post on Jan. 1, 2022.

Brad Stone, who was the first to report on Koru, in his 2021 book “Amazon Unbound: Jeff Bezos and the Invention of a Global Empire,” said the name was “consistent with where we see him today.”

“He is no longer this single-minded tech guy,” Mr. Stone said. “He’s in media and Hollywood and has a new relationship.”

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez are skipping straight to the honeymoon phase.

The newly engaged couple was spotted hand-in-hand on a leisurely walk in Portofino, Italy on Tuesday. Sánchez, 53, wore a black and white Alo sports bra and legging set, while the Amazon founder, 59, wore a gray T-shirt and navy pants.

The husband-and-wife-to-be have been on their European vacation since early May, first traveling to France and Spain in Bezos’ $500 million superyacht . The boat features three towering masts, several decks (including one with a pool), and a supporting helipad, per Boat International .

The same yacht features a wooden sculpture that resembles Sánchez , who was first spotted flaunting a diamond engagement ring aboard the yacht — named Koru, meaning “new beginnings,” in late May.

Photos from one of their outdoor strolls captured Bezos giving Sánchez a tap to the rear after holding hands while they were out and about last month.

The newly engaged couple first went public with their relationship in January 2019 after Bezos announced his divorce from MacKenzie Scott after 25 years of marriage and four children together.

At the time, the former Good Day LA co-host was also divorcing her husband of 13 years, agent Patrick Whitesell . The Emmy Award winner shares two children with Whitesell and has a son from a previous relationship with former NFL star Tony Gonzalez .

Sánchez — the vice chair of the Bezos Earth Fund — is reportedly looking forward to continuing to build her "philanthropic profile" as she and Bezos start their next chapter together.

Early in their relationship, a source previously revealed to PEOPLE that the pair bonded over their philanthropic efforts . Since then, the couple has emphasized their shared commitment to strategic giving . In late 2022, Bezos — currently worth $138 billion, per Forbes — said he plans to give away most of his fortune .

"The hard part is figuring out how to do it in a levered way," he told CNN in a joint interview with Sánchez in November. "It's not easy. Building Amazon was not easy. It took a lot of hard work, a bunch of very smart teammates, hard-working teammates, and I'm finding — and I think Lauren is finding the same thing — that charity, philanthropy, is very similar.”

On Wednesday, Amazon's founder Jeff Bezos threw an engagement party to celebrate his companionship with fiancée Lauren Sánchez on his awe-inspiring yacht Koru in Italy, reported Page Six . They had gotten engaged in May 2023 . The function was attended by selected high-profile celebrities such as Bill Gates and Wendi Murdoch. The yacht has been the focal point of much intrigue and awe. Here's why.

One of its kind: It's the world's largest sailing yacht

Koru was formerly known as Y721, and per Boat International , it has the honor of being the world's largest sailing yacht as well as the largest yacht to have been built in the Netherlands . The site further explains the yacht's features- "[There is a] large pool on the aft deck, a seating area on the bowsprit, and multiple areas for relaxing across open decks."

It costs a mammoth $25M a year to run

Per a Hindustan Times report, the three-mast sailing and 417-foot-long yacht can reach a speed of 20 knots. To put this into perspective, it's important to note that large yachts usually average about 15 knots. The marvelous super boat costs about $25M a year to run and requires a crew of 40 sailors. It can accommodate about 18 people at a time.

Koru: Meaning of the word and significance

The word "koru" comes from Maori (an indigenous tribe in New Zealand ) art and is represented by a coil or loop, implying new beginnings, peace, and growth. Moreover, its spiral nature conveys the idea of perpetual movement. While sharing images from his New Year's party in January 2022, Bezos uploaded an image of the yacht and mentioned "personal growth, renewal, rebirth" in his caption.

It even has Sánchez's sculpture!

If all these stupendpus features weren't jaw-dropping enouh, there's more! Bezos's yacht has a magnificent wooden sculpture of Sánchez installed on the prow (the front part of the ship) and wears a necklace that contains the symbol of koru. Hard to compete with that level of love! To recall, the couple went public with their relationship in 2019, after Bezos's divorce from MacKenzie Scott.

Bezos first commissioned Dutch shipbuilder Oceanco for the boat five years ago, according to Daily Mail . Oceanco constructed the 416-foot vessel in Rotterdam’s port of Zwijndrecht. The $500-million undertaking made headlines last year when Bezos offered to dismantle and rebuild the city’s 100-year-old De Hef bridge so his forthcoming massive ship could make it past its low clearance upon completion. Residents threatened to egg him. Oceanco moved the project, transporting the yacht without its tall masts.

Now complete, the ship is named Koru, the Māori word for “loop,” or new beginnings. Paparazzi spotted Koru making sea trials this February, stunning hood ornament in tow, replete with a pendant also resembling the Māori symbol for the boat’s name. The gowned goddess’s resemblance to Bezos’s beloved “ alive girl ” echoes classical, feminine elements of her beauty like ample lips, hair, and bosom. Oceanco has not commented on who crafted the sculpture, and if it truly depicts Sánchez.

Bezos and Sánchez were spotted aboard the Koru for the first time this week off the coast of Mallorca, following its maiden voyage in April from the Netherlands to Spain via Gibraltar.

The Koru boasts an additional submarine, 250-foot support boat with helipad, on-board supercar and speedboat collection, and interiors inspired by former Fox CEO Barry Diller’s own yacht. While Bezos and Sánchez take the blue-and-gold-painted Koru to Cannes Film Festival and beyond, the media is debating whether it’s now the world’s largest sailing vessel. Maintenance will cost Bezos $25 million a year from the $124 billion fortune he’s pledged to charity .
