SAIL THE GULF & QATAR MATCH RACING CUP 2015

The Indian contingent put up a brilliant performance in the recently concluded 'SAIL THE GULF International Regatta' held at Doha, Qatar (3rd - 7th Feb 2015). This official event is recognized by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) which is the world governing body affiliated to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Chinna Reddy and Yakubu both sponsored by Royal Madras Yacht Club (RMYC) bagged the GOLD in the Hobie 16, while the junior Indian team came first in the Optimist Team Racing with RMYC sailor Rishab Nayyar being part of the team. Vir Amar Menon stood 4th in the Laser Radial missing the bronze by 1 point. Rishab Nayyar stood 6th in the Optimist.

Chinna Reddy and Yakubu dominated in all the races against teams from UAE, Belgium, Romania, Australia, Great Britain and Germany. This was the best performance of the Indian contingent and it was a memorable sight as they collected their medals with the Indian flag displayed in the foreground to the tune of the national anthem.

After you make full or partial payment, if you wish to change your travel arrangements in any way (e.g. your chosen departure date or accommodation), we will do our utmost to make these changes but it may not always be possible. Any request for changes must be in writing from the person who made the booking. All cost incurred due to amendment will be borne by the traveller himself.

• INCLUDES 1 to 1.5 hours of Wind Sailing in J80 Sailboat with safety life vest, navigated by an experienced Skipper leading the Sailing, Biscuits or Snacks and Tea / Coffee after the Sailing and Taxes 
• EXCLUDES Water, Transport up to the Sailing Club and Anything else. 
• Operation Timing - Between 11 AM and 6 PM. 
• Only Indian Citizens are allowed
• Will need 2 id proofs (Aadhar and 2nd id like Voter id or PAN or driving license). For students, educational institution id can be given.
• If we are not able to do Sailing for any reasons, we can reschedule or refund 100%. If you would like to cancel, we will refund 95% of the total price.

Sailing is a great adventure sport that has been in existence in the city of Chennai (formerly known as Madras) for many decades but only for those who have access to premier clubs. In the year 2002 a small group of sailing aficionados formed the Tamil Nadu Sailing Association with the sole aim of making this sport accessible to all and to create champions in this sport so that they may represent our state of Tamil Nadu and India in the international arena to bring glory to our state and our country.

As an adventure sport, sailing is fast growing in India. It is in the very nature of all humans to seek recreation and to satisfy our need for excitement and thrill. For total physical and mental gratification it is a sport that is like no other. To ride the waves is a heady feeling that all sailors remember with a special longing. An exercise where the forces of nature - the wind and waves, challenge human skill and endurance for mastery over a boat, this environment-friendly adventure sport is the very metaphor for the complexities of life.

Tamil Nadu Sailing Association is a not-for-profit, non-political and non-sectarian association based in Chennai, India and its aim is to foster, encourage and train people in the sport of Sailing and allied Water Sports. The objective also includes building fraternal relations with other Yacht Clubs and Sailing Association in India and abroad.

The Objectives of this Association

• To foster, encourage and train people in the sport of Yachting and Allied Water Sports in and around the State of Tamil Nadu.
• To foster fraternal relations with other Yacht Associations or Sailing Clubs & Associations in India and abroad.
• To make available the facilities and train people in the sport of sailing irrespective of age, caste, creed, religion and gender and to broad-base the sport by keeping it inexpensive and making it available to children and adults of all economic strata of society
• To maintain cordial relations with the Port Authorities, Indian Navy, Coast Guard, Coastal Police, NCC and the Tamil Nadu State authorities at all times so as to achieve smooth functioning of our objective.
• To arrange and conduct regular Boat Races and organize Annual Sailing Programs and Championships.
• To make suitable representations to the Central and State Governments to promote yachting, sailing, wind surfing and allied water sports.

• We request relevant forms to be flled so that we can obtain the passes
• Full payment is required before the forms can be processed
• Entry would be at Madras port harbor  through Gate no. 7 (Opp to The Reserve Bank India).
• The passes will be provided by one of our crew member before entering gate No.7.
• Carry a valid Govt issued phot IDs on the sail day.
• If you are a foreigner, let us know in advance as the concerned form is different for non-Indians

Offshore regatta from May 1 to 5 in Chennai

CHENNAI: The third edition of the Unifi Capital Offshore Regatta, featuring J80 sail boats, will be held from May 1 to 5 between Chennai and Mahabalipuram. This regatta will conform to the safety standards of World Sailing, the world’s governing body for the sport of sailing.

The first race will be from Chennai Port and Mahabalipuram and back, a distance of 50 kms each way. The sailors will then race between Chennai Port and Kamarajar Port, a distance of 20 kms each leg. The race commences from the Club inside the Chennai Port Trust. The Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Navy are providing support and logistics for the event. Sravan Raghunathan, organising secretary, informed that there would be six teams competing in the event, with good participation from Indian sailors too.

Chess tournament

The Dr KCG Verghese Memorial 2nd International Open FIDE rating chess tournament will be held at KCG College, Chennai from May 1 to 5. The event will have a total prize pool of Rs 3,00,000. The chess tournament is being organised by Mount Chess Academy under the aegis of All India Chess Federation and Tamilnadu State Chess Association.

The venue of the event is Dr Abdul Kalam indoor auditorium, KCG College, Karapakkam. Top twenty players will be awarded cash prizes and the winner will get Rs 40,000, along with a trophy. The event will be played under a 9-round Swiss format. International Arbiter, M Vijayakumar, will be the chief arbiter. Entry will be free for GMs and IMs. For others, it is `1500.
