Leonardo DiCaprio Looks Like the King of the World on Yacht Vacation

Hasn't the 'Titanic' star learned his lesson about big boats?

More recently, DiCaprio has hit the continent again. He was seen relaxing while shirtless on his yacht off the Amalfi Coast with his father George, stepmother Peggy, and niece Normandie. Photos published in Page Six show the Titanic star unwinding on board, taking a dip in the ocean, and taking a boat out to explore the Blue Grotto sea caves in Capri. But don't worry; there was not a single iceberg in sight.

This vacation comes after an intense window of promoting his new movie Killers of the Flower Moon , which marks DiCaprio's seventh collaboration with Martin Scorsese . (He first worked with the director on Gangs of New York , followed by The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and short film The Audition. )

Killers of the Flower Moon , based on a critically lauded nonfiction book by David Grann, is a fictionalized account of the true story of a series of murders in the indigenous Osage Nation in Oklahoma in the 1920s following the discovery of oil on Osage land, and the newly-formed FBI's investigation into the unsolved deaths. DiCaprio stars alongside Robert DeNiro, Jesse Plemons, Brendan Fraser, John Lithgow, and Lily Gladstone.

There are two things about Leonardo DiCaprio that I know will always be true: 1/ He’s a man of leisure, and 2/ He's a man of luxury. When DiCaprio not starring in a blockbuster, or dating a young model, the 48-year-old actor can often be found unwinding in a wildly glamorous manner.

This week, he did exactly that, while cruising around the Amalfi coast in his private yacht. DiCaprio invited his dad, stepmum, and niece along for the ride. Some may find that excessive! They might wonder, Why charter a big-ass boat for just four people? Wouldn’t a smaller ship be easier to manage? I think the answer is pretty simple: Because it's fun! And Leonardo DiCaprio has yacht money! I’d do the same. Wouldn’t you?

The actor's upcoming movie is based on David Grann’s popular nonfiction book, Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI . DiCaprio stars in the project alongside Robert DeNiro, Jesse Plemons, Brendan Fraser, John Lithgow, and Lily Gladstone. The crime drama follows a series of murders that affect the indigenous Osage Nation after oil is found on their land. When more and more people go missing, the FBI swoops in to investigate.

Killers of the Flower Moon will premiere in theatres on 2 October. That gives good ol’ Leo at least a few more months to relax before hopping back into movie-star mode. I, for one, can’t wait to see what he does next.

He recently celebrated the new year in style with a host of A-list pals at a star-studded bash in St. Barts.

And Leonardo DiCaprio was intent on rest and relaxation as he topped up his tan from the back of a massive yacht while out to sea with his best buddy, actor and musician Lukas Haas, on Tuesday afternoon.

The 47-year-old actor looked fit wearing a simple pair of light blue swim trunks as he soaked up the sun after a whirlwind week on the Caribbean Sea where he joined Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos , girlfriend Lauren Sanchez, Drake , and a slew of famous faces for New Year's Eve celebrations.

Leo went shirtless as he sprawled out across a black-and-white lounger for a quiet moment with his pal. 

The two buddies, who have been friends since the nineties have co=starred in a string of movies including Inception and The Revenant.

The guys headed up to the deck of the boat later on where the Academy Award winner was spotted wearing a white T-shirt.

Leo was clearly in a jovial mood as he laughed with his friends while watching the sunset from the top of the boat. 

It's unclear if his 24-year-old girlfriend, Camila Morrone, was onboard the ship with her beau, but she was reportedly at the NYE party, and most recently spotted filming Daisy Jones & The Six in Los Angeles last month.

'It was mayhem,' a source said. 'It went till 9 or 10 in the morning. Everybody on the island tried to come. Anyone who is anyone was there.'

The luxury $150 million yacht loved by celebs

Leo and his buddies have chartered Swiss billionaire Ernesto Bertarelli’s yacht Vava II for their New Year's break on Saint Barths.

The  $150 million, 315-foot yacht, Vava II hosted a New Year's Eve bash for the actor and celeb pals, including Jeff Bezos and partner Lauren Sanchez, plus Drake.

Vava II was commissioned by Swiss entrepreneur Ernesto Bertarelli in 2007 and built by Devonport Yachts at Plymouth, England before sailing her maiden voyage in 2012.  She is the largest yacht ever built in the UK.

The vast yacht costs more than £250,000 just to fill the fuel tanks.

The exteriors of the Vava II were designed by Hampshire-based specialists Redman Whiteley Dixon while the interiors were styled by Remi Tessier. 

It's able to accommodate 36 guests and features luxurious interiors, a helicopter landing pad, multiple guest cabins, a fold-down beach club and a huge variable depth swimming pool.

Leonardo DiCaprio Throws Private Party on Superyacht TOPAZ

Superyacht fan and A-List superstar Leonardo DiCaprio was one of a lucky few people in the world allowed to charter the 147m/482 TOPAZ in which he hosted a lavish party on board last month.

As reported on the New York Daily News website, the 80’s-themed party which is thought to have been held in New York in mid-April with around 100 guests welcomed aboard including actor’s Jamie Foxx and Orlando Bloom. 

A crew of more than 80 are said to have been on-hand to serve an undoubtedly impressive spread of fine food, champagne and cocktails whilst the VIP part-goers were entertained into the early hours. ‘Leo wore a velour pantsuit to the ’80s-themed party’, said one insider, adding that DiCaprio hired additional ‘deejays, decor, designers and extra security’ especially for the event.

The 2012-launched superyacht TOPAZ was built by Lürssen to a design by Tim Heywood and is currently ranked 5th amongst the largest superyachts in the world. A spectacular setting for any event, she has very occasionally been made available for rent by her UAE-based Owner to a hand-selected elite few but is not officially available on the global charter fleet.  

DiCaprio is no stranger to superyachts, having shot a number of scenes for ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ on board the 44m/144’ MY LADY M and is regularly seen enjoying time on board charter yachts during prestigious events such as the Cannes Film Festival .

The largest superyacht officially marketed for charter is SERENE , the 133m Italian motor yacht built by Fincantieri, she can accommodate 24 charter guests in her 12 sumptuous staterooms.  Charter rates are from €3,750,000 per week plus expenses.

Learn About Leonard DiCaprio's Yacht: Topaz

When you think about Leonardo DiCaprio, images of an eco-conscious crusader who is out to improve the health of the planet may first emerge. Recent rumors that Leo plans to attend the 2018 World Cup events in Brazil aboard a yacht seem a bit contradictory because of the pollution that these floating luxury hotels churn into the air and water.

While some have criticized him for indulging in a bit of heaven at the expense of the planet, if he wasn't doing it, somebody else would be. At least he's making an attempt to help the situation when he can. All of that aside, we were curious to find out more about Leonardo DiCaprio's Yacht, and here is what we discovered.

Leo doesn't own the yacht

DiCaprio hasn't actually purchased a yacht. Instead, he rented it from owner, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Mansour is a billionaire politician who is the current prime minister of the United Arab Emirates.

The mega yacht was custom built according to his grand and luxurious specifications and named the Topaz. Until recently, the interior of the yacht has remained a well-guarded secret. We've learned some juicy tidbits that we're happy to share.

Specifications of the Topaz

The super yacht measures a total of 453 feet in length with a cost of more than $200 million in USD to build and an estimated value of $678 million. This isn't the biggest yacht that Mr. DiCaprio has chartered, but it's likely to be one of the most luxurious.

The yacht is powered by four M90 diesel engines which generate approximately 48,000 horse power. The ship made its maiden launch in 2012 and according to sources, DiCaprio also rented it in 2014 just 2 years into its service run.

The Topaz is rumored to be one of the most extravagant yachts in the world . It offers smooth sailing with the installation of zero speed stabilizers. It comes fully outfitted with lifts that ferry guests comfortably among the eight deck levels to the host of amenities that are scattered throughout the massive vessel.

It is decked out in full luxury and comfort with a cinema, two hot tubs, air conditioning throughout, three swimming pools, a fitness hall, underwater lights, an ample sized conference room and a well hidden interior design that is left up to our imaginations.

Leo won't be making the trip alone. We've learned that he has a list of guests that will accompany him on thee yacht as he enjoys the football tournament in Brazil.

There were 21 of his friends, all of millionaire status mind you, invited to enjoy the amenities. It's been reported that DiCaprio and his pals hopped a jet and flew to Rio de Janeiro to arrive one day prior to kick off of the Brazil World cup.

The controversy the rental has stirred

While some are happy that Leo had a nice luxury vacation , others are upset about the seeming nose thumb to environmentalists who think his actions are careless.

There has been a degree of judgment and sentiments of disappointment to outright damnation sent his way. Activists point out that Leo's private jet that made thee 8000 mile trip left a hefty carbon footprint. This is besides the emissions put out from the luxury mega yacht. They're citing his actions as not being environmentally responsible.

Why the uproar?

The backlash has come after the fact that DiCaprio made a plea to viewers to work with one another to help fight climate change when he accepted his first ever Oscar award. DiCaprio's involvement in Hollywood environmentalism can't be denied.

He dedicates time to fly here and there to pick up awards for his contributions to help clean up the environment, but when he flies to and fro, his carbon footprint grows.

There has been a volley of insults and comments disapproving of Leo's actions, but isn't this how Hollywood environmentalism works? It's kinda tough to get to Brazil without flying or chartering a boat to take you there.

It's a drama that has been ongoing since Leo's plans were first revealed but it seems that he could at least score a few points for encouraging us all to make some kind of effort.

It's not easy being the center of attention and there are times when best intentions draw a backlash of negativism, despite the fact that most of us rely on some type of carbon emitting transportation resources.

Leonardo DiCaprio 's summer European yacht excursion is still rolling -- only this time, he had female company ... specifically, one hot model, who's actually pals with Gigi Hadid .

The 48-year-old actor was on a boat again this weekend ... except now, he was sailing off the coast of Ibiza -- and he was doing so with none other than 22-year-old Meghan Roche ... an American high-fashion model who's worked with pretty much all the big luxury brands.

As you can see in these shots, Leo and Meghan got out of the same SUV together as they were set to board Saturday ... and they weren't joined by anyone else, it seems. They also weren't really hiding the fact they were in lockstep with one another ... just out in the open.

It appears Meghan spent the night with Leo 'cause there's pics from the following day (Sunday) where she's in a different outfit completely. As for Leo, he was back to going shirtless/catching rays -- which he's been doing a lot of on this extended Euro trip.

No clear signs of PDA between 'em from what we can see ... but this certainly kicks off a new round of romance rumors -- this after the guy's been officially single for well over a year now post- Camilla Morrone . It might also finally dispel the Gigi speculation once and for all.

As you know ... there's been a lot conjecture about him hooking up with GH over the past several months -- although it's unclear where things stand now -- but as it turns out ... he might just be banging her buddy. Meghan's been spotted out with Gigi before.

Of course, it'll take more than a night with a young, hot model to actually say Leo's dating her. He tends to hang out with models all the time -- so this doesn't really mean much until we see them again ... and again. Still, though, she's right in Leo's wheelhouse as far as taste.

The dude doesn't typically get involved with women much older than 24 or 25, and she's right in that sweet spot. Plus, naturally, she's a beaut -- and a rising star in modeling at that.

Summer love is in the air ... and Leo might just have a new boo thang. That, or another fling -- whatever works. 😅

There are few relationships like the one between man and yacht. They go together like peas and carrots. Like Rodgers and Hammerstein. Like a person capable of sinking into the briny deep and a vehicle designed not to.

Leonardo DiCaprio is such a man. He’s had many a relationship with a yacht. Well, not one yacht, but yachts . He’s boarded countless numbers of them over his lifetime, annually embarking on this one or that one, parked here in a harbor, or out there in the sea, where only long lenses and the Coast Guard can find him. He yachts with friends and he yachts with girlfriends. He yachts before the Oscars and after the Oscars. He yachts in times of plenty and yachts during a pandemic. It’s as if he needs to counter the reputation of Jack Dawson, who famously died in the North Atlantic on a piece of shiplap so many years ago. It’s his life’s work. See me here once again on this ship that is not sinking, he seems to say. This is the real me. This is who I am.

And so it’s not a terrible shock or surprise that when he celebrated his girlfriend Camila Morrone’s 23rd birthday on Friday, it was on a big boat. Revelers older and younger joined in— Nina Dobrev, Shaun White, Kevin Connolly, and Lukas Haas were all there. It was a cowboy-themed party apparently, according to Page Six , which has all the photos you need. The party could have also been hat themed—everybody wears a hat—because some were wearing baseball caps and others were wearing more flat-brimmed varieties and still others wore the cowboy hat. DiCaprio is a man who knows himself, knows what he likes, and so we see him this way consistently out with his young girlfriend on a yacht and wearing a hat.

And you know what: he appeared to be the only one in the group wearing a mask. The man has earned a sense of precaution, perhaps. He knows what can go wrong on a boat. He’s seen enough of them in his life.

Kate Winslet Explains Why Kissing Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic Was 'a Mess': 'Not All It's Cracked Up to Be'

"I would end up looking as though I'd been sucking a caramel chocolate bar after each take because his makeup would come off on me," Winslet recalled

Kate Winslet was living many a Leonardo DiCaprio fangirl's dream as his character's love interest in Titanic — but behind the scenes was a different story.

"My God, he’s quite the romancer, isn’t he?" said the Regime actress, 48, in a video for Vanity Fair , while watching the famous "I'm flying!" scene in the movie that occurs just before her character Rose and DiCaprio's Jack share their first kiss.

"No wonder every young girl in the world wanted to be kissed by Leonardo DiCaprio," Winslet continued of her costar and longtime friend , though she quickly went on to admit of the smooch, “It was not all it’s cracked up to be.”

As the Academy Award winner explained, "We kept doing this kiss, and I have a lot of pale makeup on and I would have to do our makeup checks — me, on both of us, between takes — and I would end up looking as though I had been sucking a caramel chocolate bar after each take, because his makeup would come off on me."

"And he just looked like there was a bit missing from his face, because there was this big pale bit from all my makeup getting onto him," she recalled. "Oh God, it was such a mess.”

Aside from makeup issues, "I look at that and I just see how much I couldn't breathe in that bloody corset ," Winslet said, as she watched Rose walking across the deck of the ship toward Jack.

"This was a nightmare, shooting this," she continued of their "flying" scene. "Because Leo couldn't stop laughing, and we had to reshoot this about four times because [director James Cameron ] wanted a very specific light for this, obviously, and the sunsets kept changing where we were."

"This was a section of the ship — it wasn't part of the actual whole ship set that we had," the Mare of Easttown star explained. "We had to climb up a ladder to get to it, I remember. Hair and makeup couldn't reach us."

"Now, what you wouldn't know, because Leo looks completely natural, but he had to lie on sunbeds; there’s a lot of fake tan makeup going on," Winslet said. "So I have got hidden in [one side of my dress] his makeup and brushes and sponge, and [mine] in the other side. And between takes, I was basically redoing our makeup ."

Titanic was a massive success at the box office, where it made over $2.2 billion worldwide on a $200 million budget. The film also starred Billy Zane , Kathy Bates , Bill Paxton , Frances Fisher , Gloria Stuart , Victor Garber , Danny Nucci, David Warner and Suzy Amis Cameron .

And despite production challenges, Winslet told Vanity Fair that she feels "very proud" of the 1997 epic, which nabbed 11 Academy Award wins from 14 nominations.

"It is that film that just keeps giving," she said. “Whole other generations of people are discovering the film or seeing it for the first time, and there’s something extraordinary about that.”

"Doesn't mean that people don't get me to try and reenact this every time I'm on a flipping boat, which does my head in," she joked. "Every time, without fail."

She added that since they couldn't access the makeup team from their location, she had to stuff cosmetic products in her corset. She would also have to redo their makeup in between takes, as it would rub off on each other's faces.

"I have gotten hidden in here and here, I've got his makeup and brushes and sponge and my makeup and brushes and sponge in the other side," she described.

She continued: "I've got a lot of pale makeup on and I would have to do our makeup checks - on both of us, between takes - and I would end up looking as though I'd been sucking a caramel chocolate bar."

Despite the mood killer, Winslet also understood why teenage girls around the world envied her back in 1997 for locking lips with Leo.

"He's quite a romancer, isn't he? No wonder every young girl in the world wanted to be kissed by Leonardo DiCaprio," Winslet said of the '90s heartthrob.

Unsurprisingly, the massively successful film that is Titanic has still stuck with Winslet throughout these years.

"I do feel very proud of it. It's the film that just keeps giving. Whole other generations of people are discovering the film or seeing it for the first time, and there's something extraordinary about that."

But there is one aspect of the experience that still gets on her nerves 25 years later.

"People get me to try and reenact this every time I'm on a flipping boat, which does my head in," she said with a snarky sigh, before revealing that she sometimes does humor the request.

Kate Winslet said her iconic “ Titanic ” kiss with Leonardo DiCaprio “was not all it’s cracked up to be.”

“Oh my Lordy,” said Winslet while recently sitting down with Vanity Fair to watch the scene from James Cameron’s 1997 Oscar-winning film again. “This might be really cringe.”

“See, I look at that and I just see how much I couldn’t breathe in that bloody corset,” she continued. “Oh, this was a nightmare, shooting this, because Leo couldn’t stop laughing and we had to re-shoot this about four times because Jim wanted a very specific light for this.”

Winslet explained that the sunsets on set “kept changing,” however, making the kissing scene an elongated ordeal. She also said they “had to climb up a ladder” to reach the “sawn-off bit” of set in question, which proved to be a challenge for the makeup department.

“So we kept doing this kiss and I have a lot of pale makeup on, and I would have to do our makeup checks — me, on both of us — between takes,” she told Vanity Fair. “And I would end up looking as though I had been sucking a caramel chocolate bar after each take.”

She also recalled repeatedly “bumping my knees on that third railing.”

“Oh, God,” Winslet said. “It was such a mess.” She further decried the fact that her “boobs are practically up to my chin” during the scene.

The actor explained that DiCaprio had to “lay on sun beds” during production and used “a lot of fake tan” for his character, and said they spent hours “giggling, covered in each other’s makeup.”

Winslet previously recalled how “free” and “magnetic” DiCaprio was at the time, and told “Entertainment Tonight” last December that he “had this effervescent energy.” She said they “connected on so many levels” while filming, as DiCaprio was “very smart” and “very, very curious.”

“He was really fascinated with the period, the details to do with the boat, the lower classes, where those people had come from … [and] paid for their tickets,” Winslet told the outlet , adding: “I certainly can’t imagine it being anyone other than Leo.”

Winslet confessed that DiCaprio was “quite the romancer” on-screen at the time: “No wonder every young girl in the world wanted to be kissed by Leonardo DiCaprio.”

However, “it was not all it’s cracked up to be,” she said.

Winslet, who was only 22 years old when “Titanic” launched her into stardom, said she’s still “very proud” of the movie. She argued “there’s something extraordinary” about the 27-year-old project becoming a “film that just keeps giving” — before sharing a minor quibble.

“It doesn’t mean that people don’t get me to try and reenact this every time I’m on a flipping boat,” Winslet said Wednesday, “which does my head in.”

In a film full of memorable scenes, there's one in James Cameron's 1997 epic "Titanic" that stands out for its pure romance: The "I'm flying" scene , in which Kate Winslet's Rose and Leonardo DiCaprio's Jack share a passionate kiss on the ship's bow as the Céline Dion song "My Heart Will Go On" plays in the background.

But in reality, the scene was a nightmare to film. At least, according to Kate Winslet.

Winslet said that Cameron wanted a specific light for the scene, and it kept changing on them. On top of that, there was no way for hair and makeup to do touch-ups on the actors between shots because of where they were standing, so Winslet had to do both their makeup and hide their brushes inside her corset.

DiCaprio, who had fake tan makeup on, looked like "there was a bit missing from his face" after each take, Winslet said. "Oh God, it was such a mess."

Despite all that, the finished received much acclaim. "Titanic" went on to win 11 Oscars, including best picture and best director for Cameron. It was the highest-grossing movie ever until Cameron made "Avatar" in 2009.

"I do feel very proud of it because I feel that it is that film that just keeps giving," Winslet said of "Titanic." "Whole other generations of people are discovering the film or seeing it for the first time, and there's something extraordinary about that."

Of course, that means every time Winslet is on a boat, people try to get her to reenact the "I'm flying" scene.

Does she agree to do it?

"Sometimes yes, sometimes no," she said.

Patti Stanger has big plans for Hollywood bachelor Leonardo DiCaprio.

In an exclusive interview with Page Six at the 2024 Critics’ Choice Real TV Awards on Saturday, the “Millionaire Matchmaker” alum said she “would like to see” the Oscar winner, 49, “settle down.”

“I’d like to see Leo have a kid,” she added. “Isn’t he adorable? And he’s my favorite actor.”

Stanger, 63, made sure to note that she’s “not usually a fan” of age differences among couples that go beyond “10 [years].”

But because DiCaprio seemingly dumps his notoriously young girlfriends around the time they turn 25, the former Bravolebrity said she’d be willing to bend her rules for him.

“I’d like somebody in their 30s,” Stanger told us of her ideal mate for the “Titanic” star. “Let’s go early 30s. Somebody who knows herself. I’m an astrologer, so somebody who’s gone through their Saturn Return would be really grounding for him. Maybe a Pisces or a Cancer or even a Gemini because he’s a Scorpio.”

Because Saturn is the planet of responsibilities, time and wisdom, a Saturn Return is one’s astrological coming of age, according to The Cut .

Stanger — who recently joined forces with Bachelor Nation’s Nick Viall on CW’s “Patti Stanger: The Matchmaker” — envisions DiCaprio with a woman who’s mostly “outside of Hollywood.”

“Maybe a stylist or a lawyer in the [entertainment] business or an agent,” she explained while walking the red carpet at the Fairmont Century Plaza hotel in Los Angeles. “Not an actress, not a singer, not a dancer. Somebody who can support him but not need all this.”

DiCaprio — who has dated a bevy of 20-something models throughout his career — was last linked to Vittoria Ceretti , who turned 26 earlier this month.

The “Wolf of Wall Street” star was  spotted making out  with Ceretti at a nightclub in Ibiza in August 2023.

From there, they were seen on an ice cream date  in Santa Barbara, Calif., before they  grabbed dinner with friends in Paris .

The brunette beauty even  hung out with DiCaprio’s mother in Milan.

“They’ve been spending quite a bit of time together over the past few months, and they’re enjoying getting to know one another on a deeper level,” an insider told Page Six in September 2023.

The duo was then seen  packing on the PDA  at the actor’s 49th birthday party in Beverly Hills in November 2023, where an eyewitness saw them being “affectionate and kissing throughout the night.”

The Truth About Robert De Niro And Leonardo DiCaprio's Tense Working Relationship

Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro didn't always find collaborating difficult. The pair's paths first crossed around 1993 when a teenage DiCaprio was about to make his big screen debut in the De Niro starring "This Boy's Life." Speaking to People in 2024, the "Raging Bull" star  shared that he knew the youngster was tremendously talented early on and tried to turn the tides in DiCaprio's favor. He asserted, "I said to Art Linson, the producer, I said, 'Art, that kid was really, it was interesting.'" De Niro continued, "I didn't push it. I just said, 'That kid had something special,' and then they turned around and wound up using Leo.'"  The father of seven continued to go to bat for him too. During a 2023 interview with  GQ , iconic director Martin Scorsese shared that his longtime friend and collaborator urged him to cast DiCaprio after witnessing his phenomenal acting skills on set.

The legendary filmmaker pointed out that De Niro rarely recommended actors to him, so Scorsese met with DiCaprio and got him to work on "Gangs of New York" as a result. It's safe to say that the director was floored by DiCaprio because Scorsese subsequently collaborated with him on a handful of other projects too. Then, nearly 30 years after their first film, DiCaprio and De Niro reunited for Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon." However, it wasn't all smooth sailing this time around as the "Titanic" star loved putting his own spin on lines — something his collaborators weren't big fans of, especially De Niro.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro had very different acting methods

In his 2023  Wall Street Journal  profile, Martin Scorsese detailed Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro's wildly different perspectives heading into "Killers Of The Flower Moon." The "Taxi Driver" star had a razor-focused vision, while DiCaprio wanted to be more loose and creative. Scorsese had multiple conversations with "The Great Gatsby" star about how he could improvise his scenes with De Niro and things got a little tense as a result. "Bob didn't want to talk," Scorsese admitted. "Every now and then, Bob and I would look at each other and roll our eyes a little bit. And we'd tell [DiCaprio], 'You don't need that dialogue.'" However, his perspective ultimately helped shape the film. As the iconic filmmaker acknowledged to  Deadline,  he had developed a "shorthand" form of communication with De Niro after decades of working together. But Scorsese had to adopt a more elaborate approach with DiCaprio because he wanted to get into the nitty-gritty of the subject matter. 

The  "Before The Flood" narrator insisted on taking on the part of Ernest Burkhart instead of the more fleshed-out role of the detective, Tom White (ultimately played by Jesse Plemons). DiCaprio saw Ernest as a means to bring more dimension to the film, so he worked with the director to develop a better story for him. Furthermore, the actor believed that the original script didn't encapsulate the cultural and political climate at the time, so he suggested a rewrite that also brought additional depth.

Leonardo DiCaprio looked up to Robert De Niro in his younger years

During a 2023 appearance on "Good Morning America," Leonardo DiCaprio confessed to initially feeling intimidated about working with Robert De Niro on "Killers Of The Flower Moon" because of his lifelong admiration for the actor. Thankfully, once they began, DiCaprio started seeing similarities between the dynamics of their characters in the movie and the father-son duo they played in "This Boy's Life." This perspective change helped the "Revenant" star to settle into the role, as he joked, "It felt like I was coming home," (via X, formerly known as Twitter). DiCaprio continued, "It felt like an intrinsic part of my childhood and I fit right into those shoes." Interestingly, the "Goodfellas" star positively impacted DiCaprio's life before they even met. When DiCaprio presented De Niro with the SAG Lifetime Achievement Award, he gushed about how the Oscar winner's talents had inspired DiCaprio's own journey in Hollywood.

The "Romeo + Juliet" star recalled watching De Niro in "Midnight Run" with his dad as a 13-year-old, referring to his meaningful words before the film: "'If you really wanna be an actor and get into this profession, if you want to understand what great acting is, you watch that man on screen,'" (via YouTube ). Evidently, things haven't changed that much in the intervening years — even if the actor's approaches are starkly different.
