In February, German magazine Boote reported that Silent’s parent company ASAP Trading was bankrupt. As a result, the shipyard entered a restructuring phase, but it continued to build despite the difficult circumstances. The new 62-footer is the first vessel to be delivered by Silent this year. 

“The launch of our first Silent 62 3-Deck is a proud moment as we continue to innovate and expand the Silent range,” Silent CEO Fabrizio Iarrera. “It is also proof that the brand continues to operate normally and is focused on delivering boats to clients.”

Designed and engineered by the in-house team, the tri-deck cat showcases a sleek exterior and a high-performance, wave-piercing reverse bow. As with the rest of the Silent fleet members, the newcomer can cruise the high seas silently and sans emissions for as long as you desire.

The multihull is equipped with two 340 kW e-motors, a 150 kW diesel generator, a 286 kWh lithium battery, and 42 powerful solar panels capable of generating up to 17 kWp. It can cruise at between six and eight knots or soar to a top speed of between 18 and 19 knots, according to Silent. It also has an unlimited range and can cover 100 miles per day using energy from the sun. As a result, the cat is cheaper to run than a traditional, diesel-powered monohull. 

The interior is home to five generous guest cabins, one lavish owner’s suite, and a sprawling main salon of 538 square feet. The yacht can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests and is suited to family adventures with or without additional crew.

Silent says it plans to deliver the first 62 Three-Deck to its owners in a few weeks.

Silent Yachts has announced that its eagerly anticipated Silent 62 3-Deck model will be making its public debut at the 2023 Cannes Yachting Festival...

The Silent 62 takes the proven blueprint of the Silent 60 to create the smallest tri-deck catamaran in the range, with three different layout options for the top deck.

The open sky lounge is effectively a flybridge with an enormous carbon-fibre hardtop overhead, but it’s the fully enclosed variants where things get really interesting.

There is a traditional sky lounge featuring an 18m² saloon with a bar, second galley and dinette, separated from an aft terrace by sliding doors, but then there is the owner’s suite version, which is a marvellous concept.

With guests tucked away in their ensuite staterooms in the hulls, the owner can head up to the top deck to their master suite with ensuite bathroom, 360° views and a private aft terrace. That’s superyacht -style luxury on a 62-footer.

Of course Silent Yachts ’ raison d’être is electric propulsion, and with the largest 2x340kW motors and a 286kWh battery pack the Silent 62 can cruise at 6-8 knots pretty much non-stop if there is enough sunshine to feed the 17kWp solar panels. Silent estimates that the 62 will have a daily cruising range of 100nm on solar power alone.

Silent 60 first look: Sleek new electric catamaran makes a lot of sense

If the weather isn’t playing ball there is always the 150kW diesel generator to fall back on, fed by fuel tanks of up to 1,600 litres. Efficiency is helped by lightweight carbon fibre construction and a reverse bow design, which has been CFD tested.

Other upgrades for the Silent 62 include longer windows in the lower deck and a large bathing platform that can carry a 4.2m tender, such as the brand’s recently launched Silent Tender 400 .

Update: The Silent 62 will be attending the 2023 Cannes Yachting Festival alongside a new version of the Silent 60 with a new Front Exit layout.

Silent-Yachts launches first 62 3-Deck

The Austrian-owned solar-electric catamaran builder has launched the first Silent 62 3-Deck at its facility in Italy.

Silent-Yachts has launched the first Silent 62 3-Deck solar-electric catamaran at its facility in Fano, Italy. The Austrian-owned company has produced multiple units of the Silent 60 and slightly extended 62, but the 62 3-Deck is the first version with a full flybridge.

The top deck can be ordered as an open sky lounge – as seen on the first unit – a closed sky lounge or closed owner’s suite. The model’s other options include a forward saloon door to the foredeck, which has been included on the latest launch.

Fabrizio Iarrera, CEO of Silent-Yachts, said: “The launch of our first Silent 62 3-Deck is a proud moment as we continue to innovate and expand the Silent range. It’s also positive proof that the brand continues to operate normally and is focused on delivering boats to clients.”

The first Silent 62 3-Deck’s open flybridge offers full dining facilities, while the interior includes five-plus-one cabins for up to 12 overnight guests, as well as six bathrooms.

The Silent 62 3-Deck shares the same ultra-efficient drivetrain as the two Silent 62 catamarans launched at the end of last year. This next-generation drivetrain implements a 286kWh, liquid-cooled Lithium-ion battery pack with higher energy density, greater capacity and faster charging rates, due to optimised thermal management.

The CE A yacht is also equipped with 16.8kWp of solar panels, twin 180kW E-motors and a range extender, offering a cruising speed of six-eight knots and transoceanic range. Silent-Yachts plans to deliver the first Silent 62 3-Deck to its owners in a few weeks.

New Silent 62 Tri-Deck solar electric catamaran is unveiled, three units are sold already

The Austrian builder Silent Yachts has launched a new model: based on on the popular 60, Silent 62 Tri-Deck adds an extra level of space. One unit has been sold to a client in Europe & two units in the USA.

It’s another step on the path of green mobility , both for the sector in general and for the shipyard: Silent Yachts has released a 62-ft, three deck solar electric catamaran with plenty of space and technology, named Silent 62 Tri-Deck .

Three decks and three choices for Silent 62

Compared to the 60 it comes from, Silent 62 Tri-Deck has an extra deck instead of a flybridge. This allows to add 50 square meters of space for guests. And, three different layout option s are available for the third deck: open sky lounge, closed sky lounge or an owner’s suite.

The open sky lounge version offers an open fly deck with bar and galley, a dining table and bench for 10-12 persons, several sofas and lounge areas, plus a piloting station.

As the name says, the closed sky lounge provides a closed fly deck (18 sqm) equipped with a bar, a second galley and a dining table offering a 360° panoramic view. Aft of the sky-lounge there is a 32 sqm terrace with sofas and lounge areas.

Finally, the owner’s suite version sports a 18 sqm owner’s suite with an en-suite, and a private terrace aft of it.

The Silent 62 Tri-Deck hull is optimized with CFD study, and boasts a longer waterline and reverse bow. An optional hydraulic stern platform can accommodate a tender of up to 4.2 m, but additional water toys, SUPs, kayaks and e-bikes can be stored on the bridge deck.

_As for the layout, there’s several possible configurations ranging from three to six staterooms (double or twin) on the lower and a maximum of six bathrooms, all with separate shower.

There is a huge saloon on the main deck and large outside areas to aft and bow: the salon offers 50 sqm of space while the main deck outside is just shy of 70. On its side, the living area on the lower deck occupies up to 62 sqm.

Silent 62 Tri-Deck promises ocean-range capabilities : she can cruise efficiently for up to 100 miles a day for weeks , while at the same time, the arrangement of the components enables the yacht to power all on board systems without the need to run a generator . The generator is only used to recharge the batteries in the rare case when it is required to sustain higher speeds during longer periods of time or when the weather conditions are unfavorable for several days.

Of course the powertrain is the key asset of Silent 62. It is shared with the Silent 60’s one, and consists of 42 solar panels achieving up to 17 kWp . The self-sufficient yacht uses electric propulsion for unlimited range with no noise or fumes and minimal vibration. Because of that, the operational costs of the vessels can be substantially lower compared to power yachts using traditional propulsion systems. In addition, the yacht’s draft is just under 1 meter , which allows her to reach shallower bays which might be crucial for areas like the Caribbean and South East Asia.

Many years of research and proven use have demonstrated that a Silent yacht can cruise exclusively on solar power for up to 100 miles per day, run all household appliances including air conditioning, permanently.

Range is unlimited with solar powered electric propulsion, therefore more than Transocean-range.

While combustion engines have an energy efficiency of around 30%, electric motors feature an energy efficiency rate of more than 98%. This saves a lot of power and emits significantly less heat.

High levels of luxury require permanently available energy. On a Silent yacht, you can watch TV, enjoy a cold beer, have the air conditioning running and produce up to 2000 liters of drinking water per day without starting the generator.

High-efficiency solar cells and light-weight Lithium-Batteries provide ample energy and charging for the propulsion as well as for all household appliances, e.g. for television, air-conditioning, ice-machine, water-maker, laptop etc.

Silent Yachts has established a partnership with MG Energy Systems to provide energy systems for all models. There are numerous types of lithium batteries on the market. The brand we are using is universally regarded as industry leader with regards safety, performance, weight and life-span.

A diesel generator (range extender) is fitted as a safety back up. If necessary, due to longer periods of bad weather or where extended durations of higher speed is required, will automatically start when the batteries register below 30%, and seamlessly integrates into the charging system.

Due to the lack of “moving Parts” associated with this technology, our yachts are considerably more reliable, and much less expensive to operate and maintain.

• Solar panels fitted to Silent Yachts are zero maintenance and guaranteed for 25 years.
• Lithium batteries are zero maintenance and guaranteed for 8 years.
• The electric motors have a lifetime warranty, and are virtually zero maintenance, with only a set of inexpensive bearings needing to be changed every 50,000 hours of use. When you consider the average yearly usage is 400 – 600 hours, don’t forget to schedule that service call every 80 years.
• Depending on the optional usage of the range extender generator, standard maintenance is required, often on a 100hr basis. One owner recently reported only running their generator for 6 hours, during their transatlantic crossing.

All the electrical components are of high industrial quality and are being engineered / built in Europe and the USA.

Motors, inverters and their cables are IP69 certified. This means that they’re rated to work when permanently submerged in highly pressurized water. In comparison to a conventional diesel powered propulsion system an electric motor is far more reliable as the only moving parts are the rotor and its two bearings.

All wiring is tin-coated and all plugs feature a custom design which prevents humidity and water from entering. Additionally, all parts exposed to the marine environment are made of corrosion resistant materials.

All vital components are redundant to ensure double safety. The configuration of all components makes sure an overload is impossible, deeming the solar-electric drivetrain far safer than conventional propulsion systems. We are also proud to say that our catamarans were the first to be certified according to DIN EN ISO 16315 for the marine operations of electrically powered yachts.

Underwater lines are optimized by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and towing-tank tests. The lightweight construction is a result of bionic design, the use of carbon fibers and high-quality resins.

Interior furniture is made of stiff and lightweight composite plates with real wood-veneer. This reduces the weight significantly to about half the weight of a conventionally constructed and powered yacht.

Each kg/Lb saved is equivalent to less wave drag and friction and therefore less energy required to move the vessel through the water. Overall, this leads to high levels of efficiency enabling fast and self-sustaining propulsion.

Salon and cabins are wrapped in thermal insulation. Furthermore, all windows are shaded by either the roof and/or the hull, thus lowering the energy consumption needed to keep the interior at comfortable temperature levels.

Gorgeous proportions and beautiful lines make the Silent Yachts 62 3-Deck Closed an attractive and elegant power catamaran. A uniquely fresh way of thinking from Michael Köhler and his team set this vessel apart from any other in its class; freedom from the need to return to the shore ensures a refreshingly autonomous experience onboard.

Based on the bestselling Silent 60, this yacht offers an additional third deck instead of the regular flybridge, whilst also increasing the overall length of the hull by two feet.

The twin hulls and wide beam endow the Silent Yachts 62 3-Deck Closed with an inherent stability, creating what genuinely feels like a private floating island. This yacht is a tremendous base to relax in peace or to entertain in style with all of the luxurious touches, home comforts and high quality fittings to make life a breeze.

With 57 square metres of space on the fly deck, there is more than double the space available compared to the 21 square metres on the regular Silent 60 flybridge. 

The closed sky lounge version divides the third deck into two separate sections. This offers a closed area of 34 square metres equipped with a bar, a second galley and a dining table with an unobstructed 360 degree panoramic view. In addition, an open section with 23 square metres of terrace area and a lounge can be located in the aft. 

If preferred and as an additional option, a generous owner’s suite can be created on the third deck. This allows for 23 square metres of interior space, including the fantastic, unobstructed 360 degree panoramic view. This is complemented by a 34 square metre private terrace with several sofas and lounge areas.

The versatility of this pioneering vessel is impressive. It can accommodate a variety of different propulsion systems, such as cruiser, e-power and e-power plus according to the needs and personal preferences of the owner. This Cruiser version propulsion system is the ideal entry into the world of solar powered noiseless cruising. Two electric motors allow you to seamlessly glide towards the horizon providing high levels of comfort, making this option suitable for long term economic cruising. Furthermore, the solar-electric drivetrain features unprecedented levels of reliability and security with almost zero maintenance work needed.

Silent Yachts also offers the option of a fully automatic towing kite. It flies at altitudes between 70m and 140m where winds are far stronger than at the level of the vessel. At those altitudes it has a dynamic flight pattern, which resembles the shape of a figure 8. For this reason, the kite generates up to 10 times more power per square metre compared to a conventional sail.
