  • Trivia As reported in a People magazine article, since she is portraying "Flower", the ghost of a hippie in the series, actor Sheila Carrasco says she has since adopted a throwback beauty trend - and is hoping others can catch on as well. "Let's release the stigma of women not shaving their pits," says Carrasco. "I had to grow mine out for the season. I'm in Quebec and I'm going to yoga and I see all these beautiful French Canadian women with hairy armpits and it's normal there. Then I go back to L.A. yoga and I'm like, 'I have to wear a T-shirt.' You know? I'm so embarrassed. I'm like, 'What is with this? This is how we naturally are. Who cares?!'"
  • Goofs The Farnsby's house moves between seasons. In season 1, when they first meet Sam and Jay, they introduce themselves as the next-door neighbours, and talk about hearing the construction work from next-door. But in season 2, Sam says they are two doors down. With the size of the grounds belonging to the houses, two doors down would be several miles away, and completely unaffected by anything Sam and Jay did with their house.

'Ghosts' Cast and Character Guide

Meet the characters (living and otherwise) of the hit CBS show!

CBS' Ghosts is an American remake of a popular British sitcom. Much like The Office and Shameless before it, it's become a highly-rated smash hit adored by audiences and critics alike. Joe Port and Joe Wiseman came on board from the original series across the pond to adapt the series for CBS and have served as showrunners of the American series for two seasons thus far. Ghosts follows married couple Samantha ( Rose McIver ) and Jay ( Utkarsh Ambudkar ) as they inherit the Woodstone Estate, a beautiful mansion, from a distant relative of Sam's. Together, they have dreams of renovating an old home into a bed and breakfast, but upon arriving, Samantha discovers that many spirits are haunting the halls, and she's the only one that can interact with them.

If you're curious and want to learn more about the cast behind your favorite group of ghosts, look below to find out who's who in this spooky ensemble.

Rose McIver as Samantha “Sam” Arondekar

Sam Arondekar inherits a mansion from a distant relative, and although she has dreams of turning it into something grand, that bubble pops when she realizes that she can both see and speak to the ghosts in the mansion. She discovers that she has this ability because she once had a near-death experience. With this newfound ability and the support of her husband, Jay, Sam tries to help the ghosts out.

Sam is played by Rose McIver, who you may have previously seen eating brains and solving crimes as Olivia "Liv" Moore on The CW's iZombie , an adaptation of the comic book of the same name. She also had a starring role in Netflix's A Christmas Prince and the subsequent sequels The Royal Wedding and The Royal Baby . Here's what McIver told Collider about Ghosts Season 2 during San Diego Comic-Con 2022 :

“There’s a deepening that has happened between the connections of everybody — between the ghosts within themselves and also the ghosts and the livings, and even Jay to the ghosts. I often say this; even though he doesn’t communicate with them directly, he understands them a lot better than Sam does some of the time. He’s more inclined to believe things. He’s more open-minded in a lot of ways. So I feel like the depth, and we’ve all professed love to each other now, that’s a pretty major way to go — [to Jones] you’ve professed a lot of love, actually. You and [Nigel]. So there’s a lot this season we kind of get to unpack further and further.”

Utkarsh Ambudkar as Jay Arondekar

Utkarsh Ambudkar plays the hilarious chef Jay Arondekar, Sam's loving and supportive husband. Unfortunately, he cannot see the ghosts in their new mansion. Initially, the supernatural presence in their house freaks him out, and he doesn't believe Sam until after she has a freak accident and slips into a coma. But slowly, he starts to accept the ghosts and even goes on to play D&D with them.

Ambudkar is known for his film roles in Pitch Perfect , Blindspotting , and Free Guy alongside Ryan Reynolds , Jodie Comer , and Joe Keery . He also has had roles in television shows, including The Mindy Project , White Famous , Never Have I Ever , and The Dropout . He's also shown off his improv skills on Ghosts and continues to be one of the funniest actors to watch on the show. Next up for Ambudkar, he will be starring as King Bumi in the live-action remake of Avatar: The Last Airbender , set to be released on Netflix in 2023 .

Brandon Scott Jones as Captain Isaac Higgintoot

Noticeable to the living as a foul passing order, Captain Isaac Higgintoot is a former American revolution officer who passed away from dysentery two weeks after the siege of Fort Ticonderoga. Unfortunately, his American Revolution legacy was forgotten. But even in this afterlife of relative anonymity, Higgintoot struggles with his closeted sexuality. He didn't come from a time in which he could be openly gay but comes out with the help of his fellow ghost, Hetty.

Played with comedic flair, Brandon Scott Jones brings the prim and proper gentleman ghost to life. Brandon Scott Jones has previously starred in the Rebel Wilson rom-com Isn't It Romantic? . He also co-wrote and starred in another Rebel Wilson film for Netflix, Senior Year . Ghosts was his breakout role, for which he received a Critic's Choice Award nomination. Jones is also set to appear in the vampire horror-comedy Renfield in an as-yet-undisclosed role.

Danielle Pinnock as Alberta Haynes

A former Prohibition-era jazz singer with joie de vivre, Alberta Hynes, uses Sam's help to find out how she really died. Sam does some investigating and discovers that Alberta's death was caused by poisoned moonshine. When she was alive, Alberta played dirty to get to the top and often threw her rivals under the bus, leading her to develop a few enemies. While humming sweet melodies, Alberta can be heard by not only the living but Alexa devices as well. She is played by Danielle Pinnock , who made her television debut in an episode of This Is Us . She went on to star in a multi-episode arc for CBS's Young Sheldon , but Ghosts is by far her most popular role yet. Here's what Pinnock said during an episode of Collider Ladies Night Pre-Party about Alberta's murder and where that arc could go next:

“For the 100 years that she's been there, she's been telling the ghosts that she thinks she's murdered, and they've been gaslighting her the whole time. I mean, Hetty’s like, ‘Sis, you died of a heart attack. Leave it alone.’ And a lot of these ghosts probably were there when it happened, so I’m curious to see, as we get farther along in the episodes, which ghost knows more information than what they're telling.”

Richie Moriarity as Pete Martino

Richie Moriarty plays Pete Martino, a sweet, cheerful, and socially inept Pinecone Trooper leader. He died in 1985 after one of his troops accidentally discharged an arrow and shot him in the neck. He harbors an unrequited crush on songstress Alberta. Moriarty has had appearances in several television shows, including Orange Is The New Black , Search Party , House of Cards , and What We Do In The Shadows . His role in Ghosts marks the first main character he's played in a live-action television show.

Asher Grodman as Trevor Lefkowitz

The youngest of the group of ghosts haunting the mansion, Trevor is a hedonistic, wealthy former Wall Street tycoon who died from an accidental drug overdose. Notably, his dead body was found pantsless. Because of his recent death, Trevor can interact with the living to a limited degree if he concentrates enough.

Like many of his fellow castmates, Ghosts is Asher Grodman 's first series regular role in a television series. Before the show, Grodman had guest-starring roles on HBO's Succession and Netflix's House of Cards . He wrote, directed, and produced the short film The Train (2015), which starred Academy Award winner Eli Wallach in his final performance and was featured in multiple film festivals, including the Vancouver International Film Festival.

Sheila Carrasco as Susan "Flower" Montero

Sheila Carrasco plays Flower, a charming, happy-go-lucky hippie who unfortunately met her end when she tried to befriend a bear while she was under the influence of psychedelics. The bear, sadly, mauled her to death. Passing through her makes the living instantly high. Previously, Carrasco starred in a multi-episode arc on Jane the Virgin and the Snap Original #VanLife .

Devan Chandler Long as Thorfinn

Thorfinn, also referred to as Thor, was a Viking and is the oldest ghost on the estate. Thousands of years ago, he once set out on an expedition to North America. His journey was cut short after he was struck by lightning and abandoned by his crew. He can make lights flicker in the land of the living. His two favorite things to talk about are fighting and seafood.

Devan Chandler Long brings an infectious energy to our favorite Viking. Before his acting career, he almost played in the NFL. An injury dashed his dreams of playing pro football. Since then, he's pivoted to acting to great success, especially with his series-regular role in Ghosts.

Rebecca Wisocky as Hetty Woodstone

As played by Rebecca Wisocky , Hetty Woodstone is the exacting self-proclaimed lady of the house. She's also the original owner of the Woodstone Estate, Sam's great-great-great-great grandmother. When she was alive, Hetty was snooty and frowned upon working-class folk, partially because her husband cheated on her with their maid.

Before Ghosts , Wisocky had a series-regular role on Lifetime's Devious Maids and a recurring role in The Mentalist . Recently, she appeared in Netflix's controversial Marilyn Monroe movie Blonde and David O. Russell 's Amsterdam alongside Christian Bale and Margot Robbie .

Román Zaragoza as Sasappis/"Sass"

Sass was a member of the Lenape tribe with a penchant for cynicism. The Native American is often left to be the voice of reason among the ghosts, but he secretly enjoys stirring the pot and starting drama. Sam helps him establish a long-distance relationship with his former crush, Shiki ( Crystle Lightning ), a ghost stuck in a magazine office in town. Román Zaragoza previously starred on ABC's Stumptown and Disney Channel's Austin & Ally , but Ghosts ultimately allowed Zaragoza to shine.

The Return of TV’s Most Soulful Show

True Detective: Night Country pays tribute to its origins while charting new territory.

Jodie Foster and Kali Reis in “True Detective: Night Country”

Listen to this article

Produced by ElevenLabs and NOA, News Over Audio, using AI narration.

Ever since C. Auguste Dupin pinned the death of a Parisian mother and daughter on an escaped orangutan , the murder mystery has remained one of mainstream culture’s most enduring, flexible, and popular narrative formats. The lonesome detective—with a stern constitution, hair-trigger nonsense detector, and endearing alcohol dependency—is a reliably compelling protagonist, capable of crossing legal lines and meting out justice. This figure is found throughout books and film, but especially on television, where dozens of detectives—be they police officers, licensed PIs , or talented amateurs —have charmed viewers over the decades.

Meet Liz Danvers (played by Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis, a former boxer turned actor), two of the latest entrants into this wide canon. Danvers and Navarro are policewomen stationed in Ennis, a fictional Alaskan town where the gruff white residents frequently clash with the region’s Indigenous Iñupiat people over the economy, environment, and other territorial concerns. Danvers has a bad habit of sleeping with the local men and feuding with their wives; Navarro, an Iñupiat herself, is frequently caught between the soft racism of the police force and the suspicious eyes of her people. The two women have some unexplained beef, making for natural tension when they’re roped into the same case: the grotesque deaths of all the scientists at a nearby research station who had been studying the origins of life on Earth.

Read: What HBO’s new crime show gets exactly right

This scenario might unfold on any number of shows, which could air on any number of cable networks, but it’s more notable because it unfolds underneath one specific banner: HBO’s True Detective , an anthology series about unsettling murders and the serious people who solve them, which became an overnight phenomenon a decade ago and fizzled out just as quickly. Each of its prior three seasons opened with a different murder, but the show’s particular flavor was using these murders to explore how American institutions such as the Church, the government, and corporations use their power to marginalize the powerless and control society. And though many fictionalized detectives are moody and self-destructive, True Detective ’s breakthrough debut season transcended formula with its lead character Rust Cohle, portrayed by veteran movie star Matthew McConaughey, who approached his job as part holy man, part super cop, all heartthrob.

Perhaps no other modern show benefited as much from the phrasing of its title: What made for a “true detective”? Was it Cohle’s electric instinct for sniffing out bone-rotting evil? His partner Marty Hart’s (a perfectly sardonic Woody Harrelson) dogged commitment to the case, even at great personal peril? Or maybe it was something more profound, the show suggested season to season, as it followed characters mired in a sludgy existential malaise—people disgusted with human behavior yet driven to protect those most hurt by it. They had heady conversations about the nature of reality. (“Time is a flat circle.”) They made great intuitive leaps that most company men and desk jockeys could never even dream up. They refused to get tangled in departmental bureaucracy. To paraphrase a line from Mad Men , the show implied that while other televised detectives were sort of faking it, True Detective ’s detectives … were true. And it made for consistently fascinating television, even as critics soured on the second season and politely accepted the third .

True Detective: Night Country arrives after a five-year hiatus that saw creative duties pass from the show’s creator, Nic Pizzolatto (now credited only with the nebulous role of executive producer), to the Mexican writer-director Issa López, who’s given the series a facelift. First off, we have two female leads on a show that was initially critiqued for its portrayal of women. There’s a theme song from Billie Eilish, a reliable way for institutions to signal their interest in reaching a different audience. And a fresh setting: frigid and desolate Alaska, a marked contrast from seasons set in swampy Louisiana, sprawling Los Angeles, and the back roads of Arkansas.

Read: The most compelling female character on television

But Night Country is deeply indebted to what came before it. Its first episode, which airs Sunday night, flies by familiar signposts: gruesome deaths, environmental decay, flirtations with supernatural horror. Both Danvers and Navarro are haunted by something in their past, which contributes to their depressive outlook: When another character suggests that Navarro’s belief in God “must be nice,” as it means believing we’re not alone, the policewoman replies, “No, we’re alone. God, too.” And, most obviously, there are several direct references to the first season of True Detective that go beyond the cutesy Easter egg into what feels like an explicit attempt at world-building: The spirals make their return , and we appear to meet the father of an original character.

This balance is tricky to strike: gesturing at your intent to forge a new direction while heavily invoking what came before you. And although the show is not quite a “return to form,” it’s a nice bit of Sunday-night programming that scratches the itch for a gripping detective story. The murders are disturbing. The supernatural stuff is intriguing. Danvers and Navarro crackle when paired in the same scene: “My spirit animal eats old fucking white ladies like you for breakfast,” Navarro snarls during one of their early tiffs, and a later episode brings back the beloved “two cops driving and shooting the breeze” dynamic of the first season. López, who earned attention with her spooky 2017 feature, Tigers Are Not Afraid , conjures an uneasy and foreboding atmosphere: Ennis is not a happy place, its denizens do not like one another, and everyone’s secrets are ready to boil over. As in the other seasons of True Detective , there’s an awareness of how people are birthed by their surroundings—and, in turn, of how those surroundings are eager to swallow them whole.

My hesitations pertain to structure. The season’s first episodes hew closely to a procedural whodunit, resembling a standard network show about straightforward police work. Danvers has a habit of declaring “The question is …” as a stentorian means of both educating whomever she’s talking to and catching the audience up—and though Navarro eventually dings her for this habit, baking critiques of your show into the dialogue is distractingly self-conscious. (Pizzolatto may have been many things: pretentious, combative, a stereotypical “male writer.” But his work wasn’t self-conscious, and it was better for it.) The show is also familiar in more ways than one: Besides the first season of True Detective , one more show that Night Country resembles is Mare of Easttown , another procedural HBO detective program that cast an Oscar-winning actor as a standoffish, sexually forward policewoman with a heartbreaking backstory who tries to solve a small-town murder that, surprise, threatens to upend the small town.

But Mare of Easttown was a great show, at least, and the more that Night Country rolls on, the more it embraces the mystery: not just “What happened here?” but the invisible forces that compel people to abandon their self-regard and push toward some more authentic truth about being alive. A piece of art can ask many questions, but “What is the purpose of our time on Earth?” is a grand one—and, viral memes aside , True Detective has made for absorbing television because of its willingness to entertain the uncomfortable answers that come out after a couple of beers, a few too many dark nights of the soul. Something very eerie is happening in Ennis, and Danvers and Navarro won’t be the same when they figure it out. That’s enough to keep me watching, and enough to seriously justify the revival of the True Detective moniker.

Ghosts Season 3 Is Officially On The Way

Here’s everything to know about the CBS sitcom’s future.

Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar in 'Ghosts.' Photo via CBS

If you’ve been keeping up with Ghosts behind the scenes, you know the show was setting up a cliffhanger for its Season 2 finale on May 11. “The end of Season 2 has left me on the edge of my seat ... there’s lots that people will be wondering about after the break,” Rose McIver, who plays Sam, revealed at a recent Deadline event. But will there be a Ghosts Season 3 to answer fans’ pressing questions?

Fortunately, yes! The story of Sam, Jay, and their ghostly roomies will continue for at least one more season. “Much like our viewers, we love them more each and every week,” Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, said in a statement via Variety. “As the series continues to win fans on broadcast and streaming, we’re thrilled to bring back this touching and hilarious comedy for a third season.”

Indeed, Ghosts, which was inspired by the BBC sitcom of the same name , has won plenty of fans. The series about a couple who inherits a haunted abode has garnered positive reviews and a nearly perfect Rotten Tomatoes score, too — so its renewal isn’t necessarily a surprise.

So, what can fans expect from Ghosts Season 3? Here’s everything to know so far.

Ghosts Season 3 Cast

The premise of Ghosts means there’s always a huge lineup of zany characters to work with. In addition to Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar as Sam and Jay, Ghosts stars Brandon Scott Jones as Isaac, Richie Moriarty as Pete, Danielle Pinnock as Alberta, Asher Grodman as Trevor, Román Zaragoza as Sasappis, Sheila Carrasco as Flower, Rebecca Wisocky as Hetty, and Devan Chandler Long as Thorfinn.

At the Deadline event, co-showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman also said they’d love to bring characters from the original British Ghosts as guests — especially after the BBC show’s co-creator, Mathew Baynton, appeared on Season 2.

Ghosts Season 3 Plot

Wondering what else to expect from the show’s next installment? Port and Wiseman said there’s one element they want to continue from Season 2. “We have a huge cast, which is the strength of the show; we can go in so many different directions because everyone is just a home-run hitter,” Wiseman told Deadline. “But we also have a lot of characters to service. It’s so exciting to have different friends to play with and to have different dynamics. Each time you put sort of a different two or three people in a room, it brings out different sides to everybody ... and I think you get to see the textures really pop more and more throughout [this] season and hopefully into Season 3 as well.”

Ghosts Season 3 Potential Premiere Date

As Ghosts is a network sitcom, you can likely count on its return in fall 2023. Specific return dates are typically announced later in the summer. It’s not clear how the writers strike will affect that timeline, but Ambudkar did recently share a photo from the picket line.

This post will be updated with the trailer, release date, and additional plot details as more information on Ghosts Season 3 becomes available.

The 13 Best TV Shows About Mediums and People Who Can See Ghosts

tv show about ghosting

An age-old debate that’s clearly divided is on whether or not ghosts are real. Sure, there seems to be a lot of seemingly irrefutable evidence of them on the internet, but skeptics will always clap back with “that video/picture was obviously edited!”.

Personally, I’ve always been a huge fan of the horror genre so in the above debate, I’m definitely on the pro side – ghosts are real.

Halloween is my favorite holiday, I sometimes have scary movie marathons by myself, and I even enjoy the low-budget B-movies with predictable jump scares and bad special effects, and creepy kids’ shows . I mean, there’s probably only a handful of horror movies that I haven’t seen.

However, I’m also a huge scaredy-cat. I know, weird, right? I can’t sleep alone in a pitch-dark room or sleep with my back to open spaces, and I will screech if something goes bump in the night.

With that being said, the last thing I’d ever want to happen to me is to have the ability to see or communicate with spirits.

In the shows on this list though, mediums are at the forefront: the characters can see, hear, or communicate with ghosts and in some cases, even help them pass on into the next life.

It’s a mix of eerie and fascinating, and these mediums certainly handle their “gift” (if you want to call it that) with grace!

The InBetween, NBC (2019)

tv show about ghosting

In NBC’s The InBetween , Cassie Bedford is a clairvoyant and a medium – abilities that she was born with and has had to deal with her whole life.

She sometimes has visions of the past or the future, and she can communicate with troubled spirits still roaming our world – sometimes leading her to help them find peace and move on.

Her father, Detective Tom Hackett, and his skeptical partner and former FBI profiler , Detective Damien Asante, encounter a particularly grisly murder and solicit Cassie’s help to provide insight through her visions.

Instead of running from her abilities, she learns to cope by using them to help the city’s police force solve their more complex cases.

Ghost Whisperer, CBS (2005 – 2010)

tv show about ghosting

CBS’ Ghost Whisperer tells the story of Melissa Gordon, a New York woman who’s trying to live a normal life as a wife, mother, and antique shop owner. Her gifts as a medium, however, often get in the way of that.

The spirits she encounters at first seem to be menacing or dangerous, but it’s often because they remain tied to the physical world due to their own guilt, leaving them confused and preventing them from crossing over into the spirit world.

Melissa, assisted by friends, colleagues, or those around her with similar gifts, takes it upon herself to help these earthbound and restless spirits find peace with their unfinished business.

A Gifted Man, CBS (2011 – 2012)

tv show about ghosting

Before Patrick Wilson took on the role of renowned paranormal investigator Ed Warren in The Conjuring movie franchise, he was a man haunted by the ghost of his recently deceased wife.

He plays Michael Holt, a successful New York City surgeon with a wealthy clientele that allows him to become accustomed to the luxurious and privileged lifestyle.

Before the car accident that took her life, his wife Anna was the director of a free clinic for underprivileged patients. Now, Anna has returned to Michael’s life in the form of her spirit, and all she wants is for him to continue her work at the clinic – a task that turns his life and his perspective on life upside down.

Marley’s Ghosts, Gold (2015 – 2016)

tv show about ghosting

Marley’s Ghosts is a two-series British sitcom from Gold that takes a more humorous perspective on a pretty unfortunate situation.

In the case of Marley Wise, it’s not even her ability to see and speak to the dead that’s troublesome – it’s the three ghosts that she can always see and who seem to have decided to stay in her life.

Who are they, you ask? The first is her husband Adam, who died after choking on a chicken bone. Second, her workplace lover Michael, who died in a car accident involving a vicar – who rounds out the trio haunting Marley.

As if her life as a British magistrate wasn’t complicated enough already!

Ghosts, BBC One (2019 – present)

tv show about ghosting

Speaking of British sitcoms, there is another one we just have to mention here.

BBC One’s Ghost follows Alison and Mike, a young married couple who unexpectedly inherits Button House, a huge mansion that they plan to turn into a luxury hotel. Little do the Coopers know that the house is haunted .

When the ghosts’ plan to haunt the couple out of the house causes Alison to fall out of an upstairs window, she dies for 3 whole minutes and slips into a coma. However, when Alison wakes two weeks later, she suddenly can see ghosts.

So, now Alison has to learn to co-exist with the ghosts which is especially challenging because the ghosts don’t want Mike and Alison to convert the house into a hotel.

Ghosts, CBS (2021 – present)

tv show about ghosting

Like the premise of the previous show but are more partial to American sitcoms? Well, you’re in luck then because CBS just did a reboot of the British comedy that has become quite popular.

Much like with the original series, CBS’s Ghosts follows Newyorkers Samantha and Jay, who move into an old country house after Sam inherits it from a distant relative.

The couple plans to turn the mansion into a bed & breakfast, which is an idea the ghosts do not like. So they decide to start haunting the house to make the Arondekars leave. But as with everything the ghosts do, they go a little overboard with the haunting and cause Sam to fall down the stairs.

When Sam wakes up from her near-death experience she realizes that she can see ghosts. Which means that now she has to get used to co-habiting the house with a bunch of eccentric ghosts. While Jay has to learn to go with all the crazy shenanigans Sam and the ghosts get into.

Medium, NBC/CBS (2005 – 2011)

tv show about ghosting

The medium in question in the CBS series (originally at NBC) Medium is Allison DuBois, a wife, and mother of three daughters – whose character is based on the real-life purported medium of the same name.

In the series, Allison can not only communicate with the dead, but she also has dream visions of events both past and future.

She began as an intern at the Phoenix District Attorney’s office but when a dream she has leads to the successful solving of a murder case, she begins a career as a consultant for the DA’s office, battling both the skepticism of the DA himself and her own husband, and helping her daughters cope with the gift they’ve inherited from their mother.

The Fades, BBC Three/BBC HD (2011)

tv show about ghosting

Paul Roberts is a seventeen-year-old boy who likes to keep to himself, limiting his social interaction to just his best friend Mac. Oh, as well as the vengeful ghosts he often encounters, of course.

They are called the Fades, and they’re the hateful spirits of people who have not been able to ascend and have harbored bitterness towards the living.

The Fades have discovered a way to regain their ability to touch things in the physical world, leading to the beginnings of a possible war between the dead and the living.

Only Paul can see them, but he gets the help of Mac and his twin sister Anna to prevent the Fades from destroying the human race.

Deadbeat, Hulu (2014 – 2016)

tv show about ghosting

Hulu’s supernatural comedy Deadbeat follows the story of Kevin “Pac” Pacalioglu, a young and lazy stoner who works as a medium for hire.

With the help of his best friend and fellow stoner Roofie, the pair attempt to communicate with ghosts to figure out their unfinished business in order to help them find peace and cross over – including the ghost of a girl he tried to date who’s now living in his apartment.

It’s all well and good until he encounters Camomile White, a young woman faking her way as a medium and whom Pac is desperate to stop before she causes damage to the people she claims to be helping.

Bedlam, Sky Living (2011 – 2012)

tv show about ghosting

Abandoned buildings are creepy enough on their own but when it’s a former mental asylum, that adds a whole other layer of eeriness.

In Bedlam , a former asylum was shut down after reports of patient mistreatment were discovered, and the building was renovated into a block of lavish residential apartments called Bedlam Heights. Naturally, the site is home to malevolent spirits and violent hauntings.

Jed Harper is a new arrival to Bedlam Heights and he has a certain skill set that’s perfect for the place: he can see ghosts and even has visions of their deaths, making it his job to discover the ghosts’ motive and stop them.

Saving Hope, CTV (2012 – 2017)

tv show about ghosting

The first season of CTV’s Saving Hope doesn’t technically tell the story of a medium but rather brings in a unique, opposing perspective: that of Dr. Charles “Charlie” Harris, who’s in a coma after a car accident and decides to up and leave his body to roam the hallways of the hospital he’s confined in.

His fiance, Dr. Alex Reid, continues to hold out hope that he’ll survive and wake up while struggling to deal with her own surgical patients.

When Charlie does eventually come out of the coma, that’s when his gifts as a medium kick in – now he can see the spirits of comatose and dead patients!

Dead Last, The WB (2001)

tv show about ghosting

Dead Last was another comedic take on the plight of mediums – though, the mediums in question here were, well, accidental.

The three members of a fictional band called The Problem stumble upon a magical amulet that gives them the ability to see and communicate with spirits.

Since they can’t get rid of it, they reluctantly take on the task of helping the spirits figure out what’s keeping them here, fix it, and move on to the next life.

This proves to be a particularly challenging task when everyone around them seems to think they’re crazy, and all they want to do is work on their music, uninterrupted by ghosts.

Raines, NBC (2007)

tv show about ghosting

The last show on our list may have also been short-lived, but seven episodes of Jeff Goldblum as the protagonist will still be a gift that never stops giving.

In NBC’s Raines , he plays the titular Michael Raines, a brilliant but eccentric homicide detective. At the start of the show, he has just lost his partner in a shootout but thanks to his ability to hold conversations with the dead, still relies on his help to solve crimes.

Raines also receives assistance during investigations from the victims themselves! They’re hallucinations, of course, and he knows that – but they’re great sounding boards while he searches for their killers , and they disappear as soon as he does, too.

Ghosts season 2: how to watch and everything we know about the comedy

The hit comedy Ghosts is back with its second season.

Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar in Ghosts

A breakout hit of the 2021-2022 TV season, Ghosts is back on CBS and giving audiences another frighteningly good time.

Ghosts became the latest example of an original British show adapted for and enjoyed by US audiences. It joins the likes of The Office , Shameless , House of Cards and Love Island USA , just to name a few. The American creators behind Ghosts , Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, would probably love to have the same kind of success that those shows have had.

But before we can talk about Ghosts' place in the British-to-America pantheon, Ghosts season 2 looks to show that season 1 was no fluke. Here is everything we know about Ghosts season 2.

How to watch Ghosts season 2

Ghosts season 2 has wrapped up, but you can catch up with all of the episodes of the comedy on Paramount Plus .

Check out what else if on US TV tonight with WTW's US TV listings .

Who is in the Ghosts season 2 cast?

The entire main cast is back for the new season. This includes Rose McIver, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Brandon Scott Jones, Danielle Pinnock and more. Here is the entire principal cast and who they play:

  • Rose McIver as Samantha
  • Utkarsh Ambudkar as Jay
  • Brandon Scott Jones as Isaac
  • Richie Moriarity as Pete
  • Danielle Pinnock as Alberta
  • Asher Grodman as Trevor
  • Roman Zaragoza as Sasappis
  • Sheila Carrasco as Flower
  • Rebecca Wisocky as Hetty
  • Devan Chandler Long as Thorfinn

By the way, at a recent Comic-Con event, the cast revealed who they'd love to guest star on the show. Hint, the person is an EGOT winner and is currently a host on a famous daytime talk show. Take a look at who they want on the series (we fast-forwarded the clip to the moment in question).

What is the Ghosts plot?

Ghosts follows a young couple, Samantha and Jay, that inherit an old country house and have aspirations to turn it into a bed & breakfast. However, after suffering an accident while at the house, Samantha begins to see the handful of ghosts that occupy the home. They all must learn to live together and help each other out.

The Ghosts season 1 finale saw two big developments. First, the ghost of Revolutionary War soldier Isaac finally reveals his true, romantic feelings for a ghost British soldier. Meanwhile, just as Samantha and Jay are ready to open their B&B, they are told about a curse that was set upon them shortly after moving in by Thorfinn, before they all became friends. With the only way to remove the curse potentially risking Samantha’s ability to communicate with the ghosts, she decides to dismiss it. However, as they welcome their first guests the floors of the house crumble beneath them.

So the ramifications of the very real curse are going to have to be addressed in Ghosts season 2. Can Samantha and Jay still open their B&B? Is Samantha going to decide to give up her new ability to talk with the dead? What other problems from the ghosts’ past will come to light?

CBS has revealed the official plot synopsis for the Ghosts season 2 premiere. Titled "Spies," the episode sees Sam enlists the ghosts to help secure a good review from an overly critical couple staying at the B&B. Also, Isaac tries to integrate Nigel into his friend group.

Ghosts UK and Ghosts US collide

For those fans that were familiar with the original UK version of Ghosts and were hoping for some kind of crossover between the two shows, we have some good news. It’s kind of happening in the new season. Actor Mathew Baynton, who portrays Thomas Thorne in Ghosts season 4 in the UK is guest starring in the US iteration of the show. When discussing his US stint with Entertainment Weekly , Baynton stated:

"When I was invited to play a guest role in the CBS version of Ghosts , I was a little concerned that the two universes colliding would tear a hole in the fabric of time and space. Thankfully, that didn't happen and instead, I had a lot of fun playing with a bunch of very lovely funny people."

Is there a Ghosts season 2 trailer?

Here's the original first-look trailer for Ghosts season 2.

The Ghosts team also shared a blooper reel from season 1 as part of their Comic-Con 2022 presentation. Enjoy!

Is there going to be a Ghosts season 3?

More Ghosts is coming on CBS, as the network has officially renewed the comedy series for a season 3.

"This season, executive producers Joe Port, Joe Wiseman and the brilliant cast delivered episodes that far surpassed our expectations. From the opening of the Woodstone B&B to epic Halloween and Christmas episodes , we have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know our Ghosts even better. Much like our viewers, we love them more each and every week," said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. "As the series continues to win fans on broadcast and streaming, we're thrilled to bring back this touching and hilarious comedy for a third season."

Ghosts season 2 is going to continue its run for the rest of the 2022-2023 TV season, with Ghosts season 3 arriving in the fall for the 2023-2024 season.

We Have a Ghost

What to know

Critics Consensus

We Have a Ghost has a fun concept and a talented cast; unfortunately, this spookily uneven '80s pastiche also has very little idea of what to do with them. Read critic reviews

Audience Says

It suffers from some clunky writing, but We Have a Ghost is a fun lightweight supernatural comedy that might even make you cry. Read audience reviews

‘Ghosts’ Cast: What the Stars of the CBS Sitcom Look Like in Real Life

Ghosts Cast What the Stars of the CBS Sitcom Look Like in Real Life

A haunting hoot! Ghosts is not the typical sitcom, but the transformations of the actors on the show are just part of the fun.

The CBS series, which premiered in October 2021, follows married couple Sam ( Rose McIver ) and Jay ( Utkarsh Ambudkar ) after they inherit a country estate. The pair plan to convert the historic home into a bed and breakfast, but their situation grows more complicated when Sam suffers a near-death experience in the house and suddenly acquires the ability to see the ghosts who live there .

The personalities of the spirits range from a Viking to a Prohibition-era singer to a flower child. Their knowledge (and costumes!) span centuries since they all died on the property and failed to move on to the afterlife over the years.

Joe Wiseman explained in October 2021 how he and fellow showrunner Joe Port crafted the ghost characters.

“The first thing we did was look at the macro and we thought of American archetypes and what kind of characters were from what period,” Wiseman told Entertainment Tonight at the time. “We sort of landed on the Northeast, where the Hudson Valley is and where the show is located, because we felt like that had American history baked into it.”

One character, in particular, dictated the background of the show’s entire ensemble, as the executive producers were set on including Thorfinn, played by Devan Chandler Long .

“One thing early on that we decided we wanted was a Viking,” Wiseman recalled. “And we just thought that would be a fun character to have. That sort of forced our hand a little bit in terms of location because we did a lot of research for all the characters. We wanted things to be historically accurate as much as possible because it’s just as easy to be accurate and funny as it is to make things up.”

Following “a lot of research about Vikings,” the creative team discovered that some sailed “down the coast from Canada and did exploratory missions inland,” Wiseman said. “So it rang true that one would be in the Hudson Valley.”

The key to the show’s charm was to build a diverse cast of undead characters. “The fact that these people who never would have met in real life from all different kinds of people, from all different kinds of places, but also from different eras who literally weren’t even alive at the same time,” Port told the outlet. “It’s a very interesting world where, even though they’re very different, because they’re forced together, they become friends and learn a lot from each other.”
