Remembering Airstream’s fanciest trailer: the Land Yacht
The nautically-themed trailer is out of production, but its memory lives on in other Airstream models

Airstream trailers have been nicknamed a lot of things: the Silver Bullet, a Toaster-on-Wheels, and even the Silver Twinkie. But the now iconic American aluminum trailer—especially its largest models—has also been known as a “land yacht,” thanks to its high-end design reminiscent of the largest ships on the sea.
Airstream lived up to this title in 2014 when it debuted what it called “the most luxurious Airstream ever conceived.” The special edition model—the Land Yacht 28 —boasted three rooms and was designed with the help of Mauro Micheli, head designer at yacht design firm Officina Italiana Design , with cabinetry from the Italian firm Tecnoform.
All of that impressive pedigree meant one thing for the Land Yacht: It was fancy. Designed to resemble a luxury watercraft, the 28-foot trailer slept six and came with boat-deck plank flooring, LED lighting, and Corian countertops. The master bedroom boasted a pillow top queen mattress, a 30-inch flatscreen, and plenty of under-the-bed storage.

The technology and decor was also first class. A powered pedestal table moved the dining room table out of the way to free up space, and a powered outdoor awning made shade accessible. The interior came in two color options, dark wood and cream or a lighter wood with dark grey seating fabric.
The Land Yacht started at $146,362 and because it was a special edition model, it had limited production.
“It doesn’t come down to how many Special Edition units we sell, it’s about creating truly unique models that allow our team, and those we partner with a creative outlet to try new ideas,” said Bryan Melton, General Manager of travel trailers at Airstream.
“When you remove certain constraints, you allow engineers and designers to maximize their creativity. The results are truly special, like the Land Yacht, which continue to make strong statements within Airstream’s prolific history.”

Not long after the debut of the Land Yacht, Airstream took many of that model’s favorite qualities and added them to the remodeled Classic trailer and their new line of Class-B luxury touring coaches . Today, the Land Yacht is still on the product page of Airstream’s website , but according to a reputable Airstream dealer in Colorado, the only Land Yachts still left for sale are in Canada.

I can’t thank you guys enough for my experience in purchasing a new RV. Everyone (Coach, Billy, Curtis, Mat and Robert) was extremely nice and very diligent in helping me through the process. From your on-site ( and free I might add) Restaurant for customers to the Service area and the delivery process you guys made it all feel right and never once did I feel like I was making a mistake or have second thoughts. What an experience and process! It was simply an awesome way for me to feel good about buying new when I normally would not. When my wife and I started our RV search a few years ago it was crazy. We spend over a year looking at different coaches and went to dozens of dealerships in several states. None of the other dealers we visited holds a candle to what MHSRV has in a dealership! Keep in mind I said we looked for over a year! We ended up purchasing from an individual because no dealer made me feel good about our purchase! But that was all erased when I drove on to the MHSRV lot. The minute I arrived in my old RV I was absolutely blown away!! Just the sheer size of the place is awesome! But seeing all those RV’s hooked up like a campground that was just the best! Each one I walked in was like walking into my own. The lights were on and the AC was blowing cold and it was just remarkable! I was even given a golf cart to ride around on without a salesman to tag along! What?! That’s crazy!! Who does that?! MHSRV does, that’s who! Guys, this was simply the best way to end the search for a new RV.
Now there is one negative to this purchase. Sorry to end this on a bad note but when I got home my wife loved it and said to me; you better get me a Washer and Dryer in here. When I asked why she said “we’re going to be doing a lot of traveling.” J So now I got to find her a Washer and Dryer. But on the good side of that, during my deliver process Mat told me the hook ups were there so that’s good!
I can’t say enough about how great this experience was and how great you guys were! In the great words of John Fogerty: Put me in Coach, I’m ready to Play! ( I mean RV )

Thank You! I bought from Motor Home Specialist. The best deal I have ever made. It took over 6 months before I would write this email. I had to check out other dealers. As a retired Gunnery Sergeant in the Marine Corps, I appreciate professionalism and MHS excels in every aspect. After choosing the Thor A.C.E. 30.1, our salesman worked with us to get us the best offer for our trade-in. We chose the closing day and when we arrived all was in readiness for us. From the paperwork that Katy had prepared to the coach itself all was ready for us. A smooth walk-through was conducted by Brandon who showed a lot of patience and knowledge throughout the process. Any questions were answered promptly and we were encouraged to stay the night on their lot to ensure that everything was working to our satisfaction.
In summary, I highly recommend MHS as the place to start your RV purchase. I am certain that after experiencing their hospitality and professionalism you will complete your purchase with them too.
MHS’s honesty and integrity were exemplified when after the deal had been completed, MHS discovered an error in the valuation of our trade-in. The sales manager personally came to the site we were in and delivered to us a check for $3,000. What a breath of fresh air!

We spent many hours looking on the Internet searching for the right RV for our 12 month trip around America and Canada. We came across MHS on several search sites and found a great variety of coaches to suit our needs and the prices were amazing. So we knew that by making Texas our destination we could come and look at a large variety of coaches at the one place.
It was nice to be picked up at the airport and treated like a customer straight away. We spent the day with a great sales person whose no pressure sales approach made it easy for us to make the right decision. The after sales process was great too and helped us settle in and allowed us to get to know our RV before leaving the yard.
What a great environment and experience we had purchasing our new RV.

Zhukovsky International Airport, formerly known as Ramenskoye Airport or Zhukovsky Airfield - international airport, located in Moscow Oblast, Russia 36 km southeast of central Moscow, in the town of Zhukovsky, a few kilometers southeast of the old Bykovo Airport. After its reconstruction in 2014–2016, Zhukovsky International Airport was officially opened on 30 May 2016. The declared capacity of the new airport was 4 million passengers per year.
