A traditional gaff-rigged Friendship with triple head sails, topsail and mainsail, sleeps 4, cockpit for 8, mahogany planking on oak frames and a 25 HP Westerbeke diesel. These sailboats were the originalMaine lobstering boats before internal combustion engines were used. Stored in a dry barn for the last 5 years.

What is a Gaff?

A sail gaff is a type of spar (pole) used to support the head of a fore-and-aft sail. It is most commonly used on sailing vessels and is similar in style to a lugsail's yard. The sail gaff is held in place by the gaff jaws, which are hoisted up to the mast. The gaff is positioned so that the sail has the correct angle of attack in relation to the wind. The gaff vang and/or topping lift keeps the gaff rigid and in place when the sail is set. The gaff can also be used to support a boom that holds an extra sail known as a spanker. A sail gaff, when added to the sail, makes the vessel more efficient and allows for a variety of sail designs.

1982 Scheeps & Jachtbouw Steel Gaff Rigged Ketch 'Pacifique'  is a Louis Van De Wiele designed boat, based on the famous 'Omoo', which was sailed round the world from 1949 - 1953 by famous Belgian yachtswoman Annie Van de Wiele.  This boat was built by one of the Scheeps and Jachtbouw Boatyards in Weidewiek, Netherlands and smacks of traditional boating at its best. With 5mm  cold galvanized,epoxy coated overlapping steel plates on the hull and 4mm epoxy coated steel decks, she is extremely strong and built particularly to voyage in temperate latitudes and has been as far north as Greenland. She can handle any weather conditions. The current owner had her built in 1980/1 and has been cruising her, either full time or part time, ever since.  However, it is time to move to shore and leave the sailing to someone younger, but with the passion. The strong steel hull is as good as new, the interior is functional, the rigging is largely block and tackle/dead eye, the gaff-rigged ketch sail plan will have traditionalists 'oohing and ahing', the long bowsprit adds to the sail area and to the fabulous lines of this head-turning sailing vessel. 2004 Herreshoff H 12 1/2 Gaff Rig Designed by Nathanial Herreshoff in 1914 and considered by many to be the finest daysailer ever built, Firefly was built in 2004 by the Cape Cod Shipbuilding Co. in Wareham, MA.  This  H-12 1/2 features a dark green hull made of solid fiberglass. The mahogany woodwork is impeccable and finished bright.
