Dan represented us on the purchase of a Hatteras 43 DC simultaneously representing the seller. Dan is a great broker, and we are very happy with our purchase. Dan went above and beyond on multiple accounts and was a great communicator. He is transparent, knows boats, and has amazing follow through which made for a seamless transaction.

I have bout several boats from Dan at New Era Yachts. I can say with certainty, that I have never seen a salesperson in my life go through what he goes through to ensure both seller and buyer have a win-win situation. New Era Yachts goes the extra mile to ensure a pleasurable experience, that all safety measures are met, that all key equipment is operational, and that customer satisfaction is guaranteed. Dan will even go down into the bilge and replace pumps as needed, work on engines, breakers, etc. to create a positive sales experience. I simply cannot say enough good things about this company and I highly recommend this company to any and all my boating friends. It doesn't get any better than this, honestly.

I shopped for my latest boat for over 5 years, Been to every broker in Alameda, in person several times, I was current with inventories of boats that were within my scope of interest from Pittsburg to Santa Barbara and the PNW. I've been to a lot of brokers, and I've bought a lot of boats over my 58 Years of sailing. Danny and the gang that I interacted with were as good as I have experienced anywhere. Danny helped me clean up and sell my last boat, health issues left me unable to handle that beast any longer, One just like it, in better shape won its class to Hawaii this past year. That boat would have Killed me. He sold it for close to what I paid for it 23 years earlier. The boat we bought was not from New ERA's inventory. Danny represented us very well, he knows a lot of people, and was able to make the acquisition happen very smoothly. A friend of mine, who was a Broker at one time, whose father was a broker for ever (his Dad sold my Father 3 boats in their lifetimes, 16, 32 & 38 " Sailboats) Who was walking me through the process commented that we needed to get Danny involved when the original selling broker began to get flakey, hard to contact, and I caught him in a couple of bullshit lies (The selling Broker, not Danny). The surveys were timely, and now that I have spent some time on the boat, extremely accurate. I have since found older models of this same boat for sale for as much as 2 and 3 x the sale price of the one we scored and not in as good as condition or as good a layout. I still call on the not so homeless lady to help with the cleaning, sanding and painting. She does and excellent job on all three activities. She has keys to my boat and the supplies locker.

Great experience with Dan at New Era Yachts. Dan has clearly been in the industry for decades and it shows. I'm still searching for the right boat for my needs, but I check in with Dan once or twice a month to see what comes up. Everything is straight-forward and transparent from work needed to bring classic teak wood interior floor back to "like-new" all the way to engine choice and sleeping quarters. Last time I visited, he sold a boat for near half-million and what a beauty! Real gems listed here. Will be back soon.

Awesome experience. We're first time boat owners and Danny and Richard couldn't have been more helpful for us through this process. We're now proud owners of a beautiful boat that is just right for us. Can't thank you guys enough for pointing us in the right direction, happy we put our trust in New Era.

New Era Yachts.... let me begin just by saying that for once in a very long time was I treated like a real costumer and not just another Tom, Dick, or Harry. The entire staff in the sales office are very outgoing to the needs of the costumer. I dealt directly with Danny who guided me with his professionalism, and knowledge of the boat i purchased. I feel forever indebted to him for his helpfulness, and expertise during the whole process. On the hunt for your first, second, third, etc, etc,..buy or sell? New Era Yachts Baby!

Photo of Ja T.

The boat i went to see was covered in green scum. The interior of boat was awash with water that the broker could not explain. In addition a previous offer on the boat (prior to water saturation) was never passed on to the owner. Broker in his defense seemed like a nice guy and guessing this mess was due to managerial nix ups at broker around maintenance & sales.

Photo of Jim S.

I was so happy with my experience at New Era Yachts I just had to post a review. From the very start, everything I was told came true. The process was smooth from initial inspection to the date of sale. Danny was always there to answer my calls or got back to me almost immediately, I am happy to say he is not only my boat broker but also a friend.

Photo of Jeff K.

We used one of their brokers to be our buyer's representative when purchasing a sailboat through another brokerage. The broker was knowledgeable in sailboats, recommended a good surveyor, and the transaction went smoothly and we closed quickly. I'd give higher stars except that the broker brought up politics too much and tried pushing their MLM marketing stuff on us. We went there to buy a boat, not to listen to political rants and be told how we can become thousand-airs by selling vitamin shakes. I don't think that broker is there anymore, but it still detracted from our buying experience.

Photo of Karen W.

My husband and I have been searching for three years for the perfect boat. We have been in a couple of deals that went south and thought that maybe it wasn't meant to happen. Then we found a listing on yacht world that looked like it might be the one. We looked at the boat and started to ask the hard questions. Danny at New Era made sure that every question and inquiry we had was going to be explored. He was there at every meeting, survey, haul-out and delivery. An especially important detail is that he helped us with financing that every other broker had told us we were NEVER going to get. He arranged the club membership that was necessary for the credit union that signed us-He then sent us on our very happy way with a bottle of wine! He is still helping us make our new boat perfect. Thanks, Danny!

All is well in the music world because Lady Gaga is back in the studio.

The superstar, 38, teased her next era in an Instagram post on Thursday, July 18 , posting photos of herself chilling in front of a studio microphone with black shades on. "Just me in the studio—happy as ever making music 🖤🕶️💋🎶 ," she captioned it. "Feel so grateful, heart is peaceful. It’s like meditation."

The singer also gave fans something else to get excited about, as she added, "I can’t wait for you to hear what I’m working on."

A source tells PEOPLE that Gaga has "never been happier" about the music she's been recording lately, adding, "She’s feeling the most creative she’s ever been."

Fans and Gaga's peers are equally pleased to see her working in the studio again, as fellow pop star Kesha commented under her Instagram post, "Feed us mother!!!!"

Jeff Kravitz/Getty

It's been nearly three years since Gaga unleashed a new studio album, her last being 2021's Love for Sale with the late Tony Bennett . She previously dropped a solo single, "Hold My Hand," for the soundtrack of 2022 sequel film Top Gun: Maverick — which she gave a stripped-down performance of at last year's Academy Awards . Her last single release was a 2023 collaboration with The Rolling Stones titled "Sweet Sounds of Heaven."

Back in May, the "Bad Romance" singer shared details about her plans to release new music during a Q&A at the Los Angeles premiere of her HBO concert special, Gaga Chromatica Ball — which follows the tour named after her 2020 album Chromatica. She initially teased her next studio album, dubbed LG7 , during the final moment of her concert film.

"I am in the studio every single day. I have written so many songs, I've been producing so many songs, and it's nothing like anything that I've ever made before," said Gaga, adding, "I love to break genre, and I love to explore music."

The 13-time Grammy winner's latest music update arrives just a few weeks after she wrapped up her years-long Jazz & Piano residency in Las Vegas. It concluded on July 6 after 48 whopping shows. During her second-to-last concert, she got emotional as she dedicated the performance to her boyfriend of over four years, Michael Polansky .

According to Billboard , Gaga told the crowd that she and her band will "do it again" and return to Vegas in the future with a "brand-new show."

Up next, she'll star in the highly anticipated Joker: Folie à Deux film as Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix 's titular character. The movie hits theaters on Oct. 4.

Gunnar Henderson, Bobby Witt Jr. lead new era of shortstops

Alden Gonzalez sorts through a loaded shortstop position to make his pick for the best in the big leagues. (1:37)

new era yachts photos

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Plantar fasciitis prevented Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa from participating in Tuesday night's All-Star Game, but he still made the trip and used his time wisely -- by getting better acclimated with two young superstars who share his position, Bobby Witt Jr . and Gunnar Henderson .

"Bobby and I are in the same division, so we're always talking," Correa said. "Gunnar was one of the guys I was most looking forward to meeting because I just wanted to see what kind of guy he is. He's down to earth; you can tell he's a hard worker. He's going to inspire a lot of kids to play the position."

Nearly a decade ago, Correa was a precocious two-way force at shortstop, joining the likes of Francisco Lindor , Corey Seager and Trea Turner for what felt like a golden era at the sport's most exciting position. Now, while that group remains in the thick of its prime, Major League Baseball seems to be entering into another shortstop renaissance. Henderson and Witt have emerged as the faces of it.

The two competed in the Home Run Derby, played in the Midsummer Classic and will probably spend these next two-plus months challenging New York Yankees All-Stars Aaron Judge and Juan Soto for American League MVP.

Both were in high school five years ago.

"I think the game is in great hands," Correa said, "especially on the shortstop side."

Henderson, less than three weeks removed from his 23rd birthday, finished baseball's first half with a .286/.373/.584 slash line, 28 home runs and 6.1 FanGraphs Wins Above Replacement, trailing only Judge for the major league lead. Witt, who turned 24 in mid-June, is slashing .323/.369/.558 with 16 homers and 22 stolen bases. His 5.7 fWAR ranks third.

The last time two 25-and-under shortstops finished a season ranked within the top five in position-player fWAR was 1998, when Alex Rodriguez and Nomar Garciaparra did it. The 2024 season could see as many as three -- Cincinnati Reds All-Star Elly De La Cruz , still only 22 years old, ranks sixth with 4.4 fWAR. Thinking about that trio made Texas Rangers All-Star Marcus Semien , a former shortstop who was the AL's starting second baseman, harken back to the days of A-Rod, Garciaparra, Derek Jeter and Miguel Tejada.

"It's special," Semien said. "That's the way the game should be."

Henderson and Witt grew up 700 miles apart but ran into one another, and at times played alongside each other, on the high school showcase circuit in the summers leading up to the 2019 draft.

"It seems like, even since high school, his swing hasn't really changed much," Henderson said of Witt, who was selected No. 2 overall by the Kansas City Royals . "I'm sure he's made some adjustments, but it just seems like he had a really good swing since high school."

Henderson's journey was slightly different. He fell to the Baltimore Orioles with the No. 42 pick largely because his swing needed work , prompting industrywide concern about whether he would hit consistently.

"I knew he was capable of doing this," Witt said of Henderson. "It was just a matter of time before this happened."

Henderson rose to become MLB's No. 1 overall prospect and claimed the 2023 AL Rookie of the Year Award unanimously for an Orioles team that won 101 games. He has since matched last year's home run total in 55 fewer games, displaying significantly more power to the middle of the field and triggering a 142-point OPS increase from 2023 to 2024.

Witt has made a similar jump -- on the heels of a 30-homer, 11-triple 2023 season that saw him finish seventh in MVP voting. His batting average is 47 points higher than his .276 mark last season and he has nearly matched his 2023 fWAR total with two-plus months left.

"The maturity level, too, is so high," Turner, the National League's starting shortstop on Tuesday night, said. "I don't know them personally, but just from the outside looking in it seems that way. They're also the pillars of their franchise, which is a big weight to carry. But I think they expect that from themselves."

What impresses Correa is that they have layered their hitting prowess atop elite defense and game-changing speed. Witt (with 27 outs above average and 71 stolen bases since the start of 2023) is more pronounced in those areas, but Henderson (six outs above average and 14 stolen bases in 2024) is flashing those elements this year too.

"We're seeing a different type of talent at shortstop now," Correa said. "Back in the day it was defense, offense, but they're taking it to another level. That's exciting to see. I'm going to be watching from my couch one day and I'm going to be enjoying it. I enjoy it right now, I admire them very much, and I let them know. It's just fun to watch."

Wacky homes are hot now

How a single Instagram account sparked an obsession with weird and wild homes

new era yachts photos

When Matt Kugizaki and Nick Levenhagen first saw The Rainbow House in Joshua Tree, California, they knew instantly that they had to live there. It was 2023, and the couple wanted a home in the Mojave Desert. But initially, they wanted something simple.

"I remember telling Nick once when we were looking for homes that I want our house to be like a hotel — nothing on the walls, very plain interiors, no clutter," Kugizaki said. "I envisioned very minimal and easy spaces for our dream home, preferably painted inside using one color and with maybe one statement wall. That's it."

But when they saw The Rainbow House on Zillow, they had to go see it. Stepping inside, the couple were gobsmacked by the sheer number of rainbows. The 1,028-square-foot house had been thoroughly hand-painted over a period of two years by its owner, Patrick Hasson. Each room featured a different bright color with hanging light strings to match. Sixteen different rainbow skulls peppered the interiors. The garage, perhaps the standout feature, showcased rainbow lines that spilled out across the driveway — a real-life version of the unicorn-barfing-rainbows meme.

The house was anything but minimalist — and yet it struck a chord with the couple. "We met the artist, who actually came to the house. He said he painted the house this way to bring more joy to the world. That's certainly what we felt when we saw the house," they told me. The couple bought it for $385,000 and plan to keep all the rainbow features.

Kugizaki and Levenhagen aren't alone in their unexpected love for a kooky home. In fact, their house was featured in the third episode of the new HGTV series "Zillow Gone Wild," which tells the backstories of unusual houses people just purchased or are looking to sell. The series was inspired by the popular Instagram account of the same name that Samir Mezrahi, a former deputy director of social media at BuzzFeed, created in December 2020 when he started noticing weird homes randomly listed on Zillow. "There wasn't anything for the casual home browser looking for these," he told me, so he began sharing the unique houses he found. The account immediately caught on; today it has nearly 2 million followers.

While most people follow Zillow Gone Wild to gawk at the weird and bizarre features of other people's homes, some are looking to buy. And being featured on the account gives listings a leg up. Mezrahi said that real-estate agents actively try to juice up the bizarre elements of their homes to get picked up. "If it's around Halloween, for example, agents seem to use it as an excuse to cover the house in all these skeletons and spooky decorations," he said.

Thanks to a hot housing market and a growing boredom with cookie-cutter new-builds , there's a newfound fervor for bizarre houses. More people are ditching the white and gray homes of the 2010s modern-farmhouse craze for something that can show off their personal style. And with Zillow Gone Wild and a host of other real-estate influencer accounts, a wild home is now easy to find.

The homes that Mezrahi features aren't necessarily bad, ugly, or anything built in bad taste. These are not the over-the-top McMansions that Kate Wagner shares on the blog McMansion Hell. As Mezrahi explains it, a wild house just needs to have interesting or quirky features; it's the customization that matters. He cited a viral home in Gilbert, Arizona, that had been owned by the former Los Angeles Dodger Andre Ethier as the perfect example. The $20 million house came with a go-kart track, a golf simulator, a shooting range, a built-in aquarium, and much more. Other homes might have a single unique element like the giant peacock mosaic in one $2 million home in San Luis Obispo, California, or the McDonald's-style playroom in the basement of an otherwise normal-looking $750,000 home in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

These standout features make homes more likely to go viral, leading to more exposure and possibly a higher selling price. Nick Leyendecker, the founder and principal broker at Leyendecker Luxury Real Estate, said that if maximizing the sale price is the primary objective, the more attention a property receives from potential buyers, the higher the probability of success. When trying to sell a home, most real-estate agents try to garner attention in three ways: paid ads, organic sharing on social media, and earned media from news outlets — aka "organic attention on steroids," Leyendecker said. "There is no such thing as too much exposure."

Homeowners with highly customized spaces often ask Mezrahi to feature their homes before they're even on the market. "The homeowner that converted their swimming pool into a man cave was one that comes to mind," he said. And when homes get featured, they often sell.

There is no such thing as too much exposure.

At the end of April, Leyendecker had a listing in Plymouth, Minnesota, posted on Zillow Gone Wild. The house was decked out with flashy, customized designs including a secret room behind a classic Coca-Cola machine door. Within two months, it sold for $2.8 million.

Related stories

This new trend flies in the face of previous wisdom that weird houses don't sell. When Hasson, the previous owner of The Rainbow House, was preparing to place the home on the market, his real-estate agent warned him not to have high expectations. "My real-estate agent was like, 'It's a rainbow house and not the easiest to sell,'" Hasson told The Desert Sun. But then the listing was shared on TikTok and blew up. Within two months of being listed, it sold.

Interest in outrageous homes has begun to expand beyond Zillow Gone Wild. A surge of other real-estate influencers and real-estate accounts showing off unique homes have cropped up. In a recent Zillow survey, respondents said that if cost weren't a factor, they would want a home with whimsical features they had dreamed of as a child: 76% said they would want a home theater, 43% pined for a bowling alley, and 58% wanted their own personal elevator. The study also found that different generations favored different features. For example, 38% of those born in the '50s dream of a home with a white picket fence, whereas only 21% of those born in the '90s shared the same vision. Millennials preferred a hot tub and an elevator instead.

Now that millennials are able to buy , those with the cash to spend are making those dreams a reality. And at a time when more people see into your home via social media, having cool features you can show off is a major bonus.

Ashley Spencer and her husband, both in their 30s, were looking for an eye-catching midcentury-modern home at the end of 2021 when they stumbled across one featured on Zillow Gone Wild. The house's interiors were covered in floor-to-ceiling tile — a showroom for the previous owners' tile business. "For us, it's really the Mid Mod architecture that drew us," Spencer said. "This house was just so unique with all the colors, and outside the home is shaped like a bow tie because it was built on such a thin lot. The home has really cool angles."

They also loved that the home was in the woods and next to a lake. They traveled from Austin to Minneapolis to see it for themselves and made an offer the next day. Within a month, they closed on the house.

When guests come over, Spencer loves to show off her 1955 home's built-in shuffleboard court. "I've never seen anything like it anywhere else," she told me. Her guests are always amused to discover the home was listed on Zillow Gone Wild. "My husband was a little bit more reserved and nervous about sharing that the house was from Zillow Gone Wild. But I have no problem talking about it," she said.

Of course, not every wild home will be loved by everyone. But Leyendecker said that with unique homes , it's always a matter of finding the right person. "Marketing exposure is just one piece of the puzzle — homes are a very personal thing," he said, adding: "Even the most broadly marketable properties imaginable are a good fit for some buyers and a bad fit for others."

As the old saying suggests, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The beholders are just getting more ambitious.

For their part, Kugizaki and Levenhagen don't plan on ever selling their wild rainbow house. They feel like stewards of the home and promised the former owner that they would keep everything the same. "He really wanted to make sure someone wasn't going to buy it and then keep the rainbow garage but then paint everything else over," said Levenhagen. The couple agree that rainbows mean a lot to people for many different reasons. "It's really important to a lot of communities including the LGBTQ community," said Kugizaki.

"It is in some ways just a house," Levenhagen added, "but I guess you could say The Rainbow House was a dream we didn't know we always had."

The Attempt on Donald Trump’s Life and an Image That Will Last

Donald Trump holding up his fist.

Almost immediately after shots rang out at Donald Trump ’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, the former President flinched onstage, grabbed at his face, and dropped to the ground. In the chaotic moments that followed, Trump was helped to his feet by Secret Service agents, and delivered definitive proof of life: he raised his right fist toward the sky and mouthed to the crowd, “Fight.” In the news photo that circulated shortly after, taken by Evan Vucci, of the Associated Press, Trump is set against a clear blue sky and four Secret Service agents clutch at him, one of whom stares directly at the camera, his eyes shielded by a pair of black sunglasses. An American flag appears to almost float over the scene. Trump’s lips are pursed, his eyes narrowed, and his chin slightly raised. There are streaks of blood atop his right ear, and on his cheek. He is looking out far beyond what the camera can take in—at the public, at the future—and he is defiant. Whoever tried to kill him failed. It is already the indelible image of our era of political crisis and conflict.

Other images, screenshots, and fragments of information rushed onto social media and filled out the story. In one, a Secret Service agent kneeling on the grass turns his body and extends a finger, presumably to identify the shooter, who had reportedly taken up a position on a rooftop outside the rally. In another, taken just after Trump fell to the stage, the former President’s head is framed, a few inches off of the ground with blood dribbling down his cheek, between someone’s legs. And, in a third, taken seconds after Trump rose to his feet, he is being held by several Secret Service agents who have surrounded him; one has both hands over Trump’s head to protect him, but it almost looks as if someone is praying over him. Each of these photographs freezes the moment, draining it of the chaos that is apparent in the live streams. They also add a sense of foreboding; the figures in these images, and anyone who views them, are all waiting, with trepidation, for what comes next. The Trump campaign soon released a statement that said, “He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility.” Everyone should agree that that is good news. What happened is horrifying. That flag, hanging at an odd angle, almost upside down, offers a sense of the eeriness of this moment, and of the general dread.

A photo of Donald Trump on the ground. His head is framed between someones leg with blood dribbling down his cheek.

Some of the elements in Vucci’s image are familiar from the countless others of Trump—the red MAGA hat, the wisps of hair, the mouth turned down into a frown, the chin thrust forward. Ever since Trump became a politician—and even before that—the most familiar images of him have been designed and disseminated by those who oppose him, to emphasize his insolence or his aura of threat. Even those which his supporters might celebrate, such as the confident pose Trump struck for a mug shot last August, after being indicted for conspiring to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia, are often in settings that Trump himself would not have chosen—and are thus not fully his own. Vucci’s photograph is an emblem of this tumultuous age, when the long pattern of political violence in America has intensified. Some of the most recent targets include the Republican congressional leader Steve Scalise and Michigan’s governor, Gretchen Whitmer ; on January 6, 2021, former Vice-President Mike Pence, the former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and other government leaders all narrowly escaped the baying crowds at the Capitol insurrection .

But what makes the image is Trump. In its surface details, it carries echoes of the marines at Iwo Jima. In the former President’s bloody defiance, it even evokes Rocky Balboa. On that stage, Trump seemed well aware of the image he was creating. It is an image that captures him as he would like to be seen, so perfectly, in fact, that it may outlast all the rest. ♦

Facts about Trump assassination attempt: What's real, what's not and how we know

Portrait of Chris Mueller

The attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump comes in an election cycle inundated with questions about what's real.

We've seen a fake Joe Biden robocall , fabricated Trump statements , fake election filings and all manner of AI and deep fake images and videos . Not to mention the expected array of misleading posts about the presidential race.

This environment has spurred many to question reality – whether the scenes displayed nationwide by media outlets and on social media really reflect what happened.

But let's be clear. The shooting was real. Though the investigation is ongoing and some details remain unknown, there is extensive evidence showing what happened at Trump's July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Here's what we know and how we know it.

Fact check roundup:   False claims about Trump rally shooting spread online

Was there really an assassination attempt on Trump?

Claims that major news events are staged are hardly original. We saw the same trope after the Hamas attack on Israel , the Baltimore bridge collapse , the 2023 Ohio train derailment , the 2023 Nashville school shooting and many more. This narrative is as wrong now as it was in each of those cases.

An investigation led by the FBI found that Thomas Matthew Crooks , a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, fired multiple shots toward the stage where Trump was speaking to a crowd of his supporters, according to statements released by the FBI and Secret Service . Crooks fired an AR-15-style rifle from a roof about 150 yards away and was killed by Secret Service agents moments after opening fire.

Videos published by multiple news outlets , including USA TODAY , show Trump abruptly reaching for his right ear, looking at his bloody hand and then dropping down behind the podium. People nearby can be heard saying , "Shots, shots, shots." A moment later, Secret Service agents surround Trump and escort him off the stage.

Shortly before Crooks opened fire, several rally attendees tried to get the attention of police after witnessing a suspicious man on a roof . Footage they took shows a man with long, light brown hair dressed in a beige shirt and pants can be seen lying down on the upward-slanting roof.

“Someone’s on top of the roof,” a man says in a video posted on social media the next day, while Trump speaks in the background. “Officer! Officer!" a man yells. “He’s on the roof!” a woman adds.

A July 15 statement from the FBI says it's investigating the incident "as an assassination attempt … and as potential domestic terrorism." It also indicates the bureau has done nearly 100 interviews with "law enforcement personnel, event attendees and other witnesses."

Were shots really fired at Trump rally?

Multiple shots were fired during the incident, contrary to various online claims that the shooting was "fake" or " staged ."

In a July 14 statement , the Pennsylvania State Police identified three rally attendees who were "shot during the attempted assassination of former President Trump at yesterday’s rally in Butler County." Corey Comperatore , a 50-year-old firefighter and father of two, was killed. Two others, David Dutch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74, were injured.

Trump said in a Truth Social post that he was struck by a bullet in the upper part of his right ear. A photo taken by New York Times photographer Doug Mills shows what appears to be a bullet streaking by Trump's head during the rally.

Fact check : Post wrongly claims nothing hit in Trump rally shooting

Was Trump shot?

In his Truth Social post, Trump said he was " shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear."

"I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin," he wrote.

The statements released by the FBI are not as direct about the cause of Trump's injury, only indicating that the "shooting incident" led to "one victim's death and injuries to former President Trump and other spectators."

Who was behind the Trump rally shooting?

As of July 16, the investigation indicated that Crooks acted alone , according to the FBI, which also noted it "continues to conduct logical investigative activity to determine if there were any co-conspirators associated with this attack."

Crooks, who was not known to the FBI before the incident, worked at a nursing home as a dietary aid, a job that generally involves food preparation. He doesn't have a criminal record in Pennsylvania, according to state court records. No record of him shows up in federal court databases either.

Some former classmates described Crooks as a loner who kept to himself and had few friends. Crooks also appears to have had an affinity for guns . He and his father were members of the Clairton Sportsmen’s Club, a nearby 180-acre complex with rifle, pistol, archery and competition ranges, among other amenities.

The National Security Council hasn't identified any ties between the assassination attempt and any foreign officials. However, it is still tracking threats by Iran against former Trump administration officials, Adrienne Watson, a spokesperson for the agency, said in a statement.

Fact check : Man pretended he was Trump rally shooter in a viral video

Was the Trump shooter a Republican? Antifa?

Various unproven claims about the Trump shooter have circulated online, but the little we know about his politics right now is somewhat conflicting.

Crooks is registered to vote as a Republican in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, according to county voter records. His voter registration status has been active since 2021. However, he also made a $15 donation in January 2021 to the Progressive Turnout Project, a group working to increase voter turnout for Democrats, according to Federal Election Commission records.

The bureau has yet to identify a motive for the shooting, but it has searched Crooks' residence and vehicle , and it also gained access to his phone. However, CNN reported that investigators have not found evidence of a political or ideological impetus and that Crooks' search history did not show he had researched homemade explosives.

Fact check : Officials identified Trump shooter as Thomas Matthew Crooks, not Mark Violets

An Attempt to Kill an Ex-President, Caught in Real Time, Stuns the Country

The shooting targeting Donald J. Trump was the first of its kind in the era of social media, and was followed by a flood of striking images, rich eyewitness accounts and furious, fearful reaction.

Secret Service agents surround Donald Trump in the middle of a large crowd, with many rally attendees holding Trump signs or wearing Trump clothing.

By Jonathan Weisman

Follow the latest news on the Trump assassination attempt .

It was the first attempted assassination of a current or former American president in the era of social media, and the conspiracy theories, finger-pointing and campaign gamesmanship moved at the speed of the internet, far faster than the actual facts of what transpired at former President Donald J. Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pa.

The assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963 left the nation in bewildered grief. Conspiracy theories would proliferate, of course, and Abraham Zapruder’s film of Kennedy’s last moments would be studied for decades. But first, there was mourning. The assassinations of Robert F. Kennedy and the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968 would rock the public consciousness again, leaving Americans wondering what would become of their country.

But in the era of memes, X posts, Truths, Threads and TikTok, introspection was never going to be the dominant mood. Rage, blame, even comedy were the watchwords of 2024. A picture of Mr. Trump, fist aloft, American flag fluttering overhead, became iconic in an instant.

Within minutes of the first televised images of Mr. Trump grabbing his wounded ear on Saturday, voices on the left were calling it staged, though they were hardly household names.

Not long after, far bigger names on the right, including Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio, a finalist to be Mr. Trump’s running mate, had settled on the argument that Democrats had set the stage for an attempted assassination by framing the 2024 election as a battle between the forces of democracy and the soldiers of fascism. Of course someone was going to take a shot, these conservatives said.

Before anyone knew a thing about the man who had pulled the trigger, Mr. Trump’s most senior surrogates, including Mr. Vance and Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina, were blaming President Biden and Democrats.

“Today is not just some isolated incident,” Mr. Vance wrote on the social media site X, owned by the right’s favorite billionaire, Elon Musk . “The central premise of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs. That rhetoric led directly to President Trump’s attempted assassination.”

Mr. Scott picked up the cue: “For years, Democrats and their allies in the media have recklessly stoked fears, calling President Trump and other conservatives threats to democracy,” he wrote. “Their inflammatory rhetoric puts lives at risk.”

The information that ricocheted around the internet in those first hours after the shooting was at once richly detailed and strangely lacking in substance. The BBC’s interview of a man who was on hand for the rally was stunning: He recounted how he had seen a man with a rifle crawling on a nearby rooftop and, for several minutes, tried to warn the police. Still photographs appeared to show the body of the gunman on the roof after he was killed.

Another rallygoer recounted taking lifesaving efforts on the person who died at the scene.

Yet the motives of the gunman, much less his identity, remained unconfirmed by the authorities for hours. In addition to the rally attendee who was killed, two others were critically injured. But the world did not know who they were.

(Early Sunday, the F.B.I. said the gunman was a 20-year-old man from Bethel Park, Pa.)

Democratic leaders, including Mr. Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Barack Obama, broadly condemned political violence. An AR-15-type rifle was found near the man believed to be the shooter, which could have fueled more Democratic calls for an assault weapons ban, but the party’s leaders held their tongues.

But in the internet era there is always someone who doesn’t.

Republicans dug deep to find more obscure voices on the left, such as London Lamar, a Democratic state senator in Tennessee, who framed a different message. Ms. Lamar wrote, then deleted, “the extremism from the MAGA regime has brought us to this moment,” but not before conservatives had grabbed screen shots and sent them flying around the internet.

An obscure aide to Representative Bennie Thompson, Democrat of Mississippi, became a casus belli for some on the right for suggesting, “please get you some shooting lessons,” even as actual members of Congress were lobbing their own fire bombs from the right.

“The Republican District Attorney in Butler County, PA, should immediately file charges against Joseph R. Biden for inciting an assassination,” wrote Representative Mike Collins, Republican of Georgia.

A fellow Georgian, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, suggested, “Democrats wanted this to happen.”

Arch conspiracy theories came from heroes of the far right, like the activist James O’Keefe, who suggested that the Secret Service was somehow in on it through the “Deep State Intel Community.” X posters and internet sleuths even named the shooter — incorrectly. The man was in fact a soccer journalist in Italy.

Among younger social media users, an image of Mr. Trump’s face photoshopped into a famous portrait of Vincent van Gogh with a bandaged, partly amputated ear was widely shared, often with an ironic “too soon?” attached.

In some quadrants of the political right, the mood was almost celebratory, as supporters shared images of a bleeding Mr. Trump, fist aloft.

Within minutes after the news of the shooting broke, Mr. Musk took the moment to officially endorse Mr. Trump to his 189 million followers on X, something he had only flirted with previously. He then spent the evening amplifying pro-Trump sentiments and castigating a liberal tech billionaire, Reid Hoffman, for once saying he wished he had made Mr. Trump “an actual martyr.”

Another billionaire, the hedge fund manager Bill Ackman, followed suit in endorsing Mr. Trump. Even Jeff Bezos, who has shied from politics, weighed in, declaring on social media that “our former President showed tremendous grace and courage under literal fire.”

In the Trump camp, the triumphalism was palpable less than four months from Election Day.

Above the instantly famous photo of Mr. Trump raising his fist with an American flag flying overhead, his campaign chief, Chris LaCivita, likened the moment to Old Glory raised over Iwo Jima, summing up his apparent glee with an obscenity .

The same photo was the backdrop for Donald Trump Jr.’s conclusion about his father: “He’ll never stop fighting to Save America.”

Riviera’s new-era 78 motor yacht spectacular.

In a spectacular world-wide premiere, Australia’s luxury motor yacht builder, Riviera, has launched its exceptional new 78 Motor Yacht.

Following more than 42 years of evolution and with more than 5,800 yachts launched and now being enjoyed around the world, the 78 Motor Yacht design represents a new era for Riviera.

Riviera Australia owner Rodney Longhurst said the team brought a combined passion for excellence to create a sophisticated yacht that delivers a superb combination of family cruising, entertaining and blue-water passage-making capabilities.

He said the 11 owners all enjoyed an exclusive preview at Marina Mirage on the Gold Coast a week before the official launch.

As guests enjoyed sunset cocktails, the magnificent titanium coloured yacht arrived, and spotlights swept through the evening sky to reveal the elegant lines and profile of the 78. As she pirouetted to an expectant audience, the song Firework was delivered powerfully from the foredeck. She then docked and the guests were invited to step on board for their first view of the yacht.

As they inspected the motor yacht, 78 owners’ comments included: “You’ve considered every detail – you’ve done the best job ever, and it exceeds my expectations” and “I want to congratulate Riviera upon this huge achievement” and “I have goose bumps…. it’s just spectacular.”

She has been designed in an exciting collaboration between the award-winning Riviera team of designers, engineers and craftspeople at the company’s headquarters on Queensland’s Gold Coast and superyacht designer Luca Vallebona.

During an interview from his home on the island of Sardinia in Italy, Luca said: “We decided to do something that was contemporary but not the showroom styling that you see especially in some designs.

“What I love is the way we are mixing our different cultures, the Australian one and the European one and we have found a good balance that will make everyone happy.

“Going forward from the aft saloon deck to the interior of the 78, I think is an incredible space.

“We worked hard as a team to find the right balance in the interior design. I think we achieved a very good outcome. We have introduced new concepts and they look superb.”

Step aboard

The 78 Motor Yacht offers options of an enclosed or open bridge deck and includes luxurious accommodation for up to 10 adults in four luxurious staterooms and crew quarters.

The first element guests at the exclusive preview noticed was the teak-laid swim platform. It was developed to provide a three-step design that spans the full width of the platform and can be lowered into the water to make access simple both for swimming and launching water sports equipment. A swim ladder is incorporated into the side of the platform.

Two doors are built into the transom. A watertight door on the starboard side provides access to the full-height engine room and crew quarters. A larger door on the port side lifts to reveal a garage for water sports, diving and fishing equipment. A shower is built into the underside of the door.

Stepping up from the swim platform, the semi-enclosed saloon deck, covered entirely by the bridge deck overhang, features teak decking, and includes plush lounges across the transom, and an L-shape lounge in the starboard fore quarter around a fold-out teak dining table and comprehensive barbecue centre to port. Teak deck chairs can be added around the dining table to accommodate up to eight guests. A screen across the transom can be lowered for privacy and protection from weather.

This deck includes wing doors on either side of the coaming that can be opened for entry or exit to a fixed dock.

Elegant interior

An electric sliding door opens to reveal the interior of the vast saloon deck with its large U-shape galley immediately to starboard, positioned equally to serve guests on the aft deck or in the saloon. A large window slides down electrically to open the galley to guests on the deck aft.

The galley features Caesarstone benchtops that display a three-burner induction hob and twin underslung stainless-steel sinks. This space also includes twin ovens, a dishwasher, a pair of full-height refrigerators and ample storage drawers and cupboards. Ceasarstone is also utilised on benchtops for the saloon and bridge wet bars.

Superbly varnished, finely grain-matched high-gloss teak features throughout the interior was selected for this yacht.

One of the key design features of the 78 Motor Yacht is flush surfaces throughout the interior, including concealed latches on drawers and cupboards. Panelling is utilised on fridge and icemaker doors to blend with the interior decor.

Premium fabrics and finishes are utilised extensively throughout the interior and owners personalise their yacht from the very beginning of their build, deciding on furniture placement, colours and fabrics and how they wish to best utilise the many spaces on board.

The generous saloon space on this yacht features two premium comfort lounges; a large L-shape lounge to starboard and a two-seat lounge along the port side aft of a comprehensive wet bar. An ottoman is placed over an elegant rug at the centre of this space.

Forward on the starboard side, a watertight door leads to the side deck and, from there, to the entertainer’s foredeck. This highly versatile space offers a number of entertaining layouts and a Euro sun awning with the option to carry a tender or jetski and davit.

The command centre

An internal timber staircase leads from the port side of the main saloon to the bridge deck with its super-yacht like dash accommodating four large navigation screens. The leather captain’s chair is on the yacht’s centreline with companion chairs on either side. Immediately to starboard of the captain is an extended console with engine controls. Aft is a leather lounge and ottoman and entertainment unit. An electrically-operated double sliding and stacking glass door opens up to connect the bridge interior and exterior as one space and leading to the deck with a bar including twin high seats, a U-shape lounge and teak fold-out dining table. The optional day head is in the starboard forward quarter of this space. The coaming on this deck includes port and starboard joysticks for slow-speed manoeuvring.

Luxurious accommodation deck

An elegant, curved timber staircase from the forward end of the main saloon leads to the accommodation deck with its four luxurious staterooms and three bathrooms. The full-beam Master suite amidships is bathed with natural light from extended hull windows. It provides an electrically adjustable king-size bed and extended his-and-hers en-suite bathroom. A striking timber feature adorns the aft wall. The VIP guest stateroom, fitted with a queen double bed boats hull windows and twin overhead hatches, is forward with an en-suite bathroom. The port stateroom offers twin beds that can slide together to form a double at the touch of a button. An option for this stateroom is a double bed. A third bathroom is the ensuite for this stateroom and can act as a day head. The starboard stateroom includes two adult single cross-over berths.

Power to cruise

This magnificent new motor yacht is powered by twin MAN 2000 turbo diesel engines delivering 2,000hp (1,471kW) each through Twin Disc Quickshift gearboxes. She includes Twin Disc’s Express Joystick System with the integrated station-hold Express Positioning System.

Power options include twin MAN 1550 engines providing 1,140kW (1,550hp) each or twin MAN 1800 engines that deliver 1,324kW (1,800hp) each.

With 10,200 litres of fuel available, she is capable of cruising for more than 1,000 nautical miles or offer speed over 30 knots.

The yacht includes Humphree carbon fibre fin stabilisation.

Riviera offers an industry-leading seven-year Structural and two-year Express Limited Warranty which covers all non-structural components.

Politics latest: COBRA meetings held over widespread IT outages; Zelenskyy makes historic visit to No 10

Urgent COBRA meetings have been held over IT outages, Sky News understands. Ukraine's president has made an historic visit to No 10.

The number of people arriving in the UK via small boat Channel crossings this year has now passed 15,000, the government has confirmed.

A total of 317 people made the dangerous journey across six boats on Thursday, bringing 2024's total so far to 15,076.

The number is higher than the figure for the same date in 2023, where the total had reached 14,071.

But it is still lower than the record-breaking year of 2022, where it had reached 15,314 by this date.

It comes after another person died overnight when their boat, crowded with 86 people, got into trouble in the Channel.

And it also follows fresh commitments from the new government on how it plans to tackle illegal migration.

Read the full story here:

Earlier, the Liberal Democrats were calling for a COBRA meeting.

This stands for Cabinet Office Briefing Room A - a set of rooms where government meets during emergencies.

Sky News understands such meetings have taken place - but only insofar as them being in one of the COBRA rooms.

Meetings were at an official level - it is not clear if ministers were present.

Following the huge amount of disruption due to the ongoing global IT outages, the UK government has issued a statement through X.

Sky News has contacted government departments to ask whether systems like the NHS and Universal Credit are working, but has not received a response outside posts on social media.

Pat McFadden, the chief secretary to the Treasury, said: "Many people are being affected by today's IT outages impacting services across the country and globally.

"Ministers are working with their sectors and respective industries on the issue.

"I am in close contact with teams coordinating our response through the COBRA response system."

COBRA refers to Cabinet Office Briefing Rooms - and refers to the meeting rooms used to manage crises.

Transport Secretary Louise Haigh said on social media: "We are aware of IT failures impacting several transport operators and terminals today, and we're working at pace with industry and across government on the issue.

"There are no known security issues at present.

"If you're planning to travel today, please follow operator advice and check ahead before leaving.

"Manual check-in may be required at airports and there may be train cancellations and delays."

David Lammy, the foreign secretary, has been speaking in the House of Commons in the past few moments.

Making a statement on the situation in Gaza, he announces that the UK will restore funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East - also known as UNRWA.

The money was cut off in January, following allegations staff members were involved in the 7 October attacks.

A number of staff members were sacked.

An ongoing UN investigation in the allegations has not concluded.

Mr Lammy said: "I can confirm to the House that we are overturning the suspension of UNRWA funding."

He added that £21m in new funds will be provided.

Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has now left Downing Street.

He gave a thumbs up after departing Number 10.

There is a lot of talk about the Houses of Parliament needing to be modernised.

And today the Palace of Westminster has taken another step backwards as it has reverted to being cash only.

This is due to the ongoing IT issues that are impacting businesses around the globe.

As such, the tills inside parliament are currently not able to process card transactions.

A UK parliament spokesperson said: "Due to technical issues, tills in all outlets across the estate are not accepting card payments. Customers are able to pay using cash.

"Engineers are currently assessing any wider impacts following the global IT outages, but parliamentary business remains unaffected at this time."

The Liberal Democrats are calling for the government to hold a COBRA meeting about the current global technology outages.

COBRA stands for Cabinet Office Briefing Room A, and refers to a government meeting room where serious matters get discussed - like floods or terror attacks.

Christine Jardine, the Lib Dem's Cabinet Office spokesperson, said: "The government must call an urgent COBRA meeting to address the chaos being caused by these IT outages across the country.

"The public needs to be reassured that the disruption to their travel or their desperately needed GP appointments will be minimised.

"Getting critical infrastructure up and running again must be priority number one. The National Cyber Security Centre should also be working with small businesses and other organisations to help them deal with the outage.

"This once again lays bare the need to improve our digital infrastructure and truly modernise our economy in order to prevent the incidents from happening again."

Turning to today's major breaking story - global cyber outages - our political correspondent Rob Powell has been hearing from someone in government that "lots of GPs are affected".

At least one surgery has posted on social media to report problems.

Rob said he's been told some of the issues in the health service are around a piece of software called EMIS Web.

As this is a third party piece of software, this demonstrates the situation is "clearly related to this wider problem".

It is unsurprising, he adds, that the state has been impacted by such a widespread issue.

Rob said: "But it's fairly worrying if that means that GP's can't carry out or access records because clearly that will have a knock on impact on people that are expecting to be able to see their GP and get medical appointments."

Today's meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy is a "very special moment", Sir Keir Starmer has said.

Mr Zelenskyy has previously been to Downing Street and the Houses of Parliament under a Conservative government, but the current PM said the UK is "united in our parliament" in supporting Kyiv for as long as possible.

Speaking with Mr Zelenskyy, Sir Keir added: "It's a very special moment for us to reiterate our support for you and the Ukrainian people in the fight against Russian aggression and to have this opportunity to confirm again our resolve to stand with you, so thank you so much for accepting the invitation."

Mr Zelenskyy replied by thanking the UK for the "unity" in its support.

"Thank you for the invitation for the privilege for me to be here," he said.

"Thanks for this unity. We feel this support and your strong decisions… helped us to defend freedom and democracy in Ukraine and helped very much Ukrainian people."

He added: "I also want to discuss with you today also strong decisions we can have in this war [to] help us."

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has arrived in Downing Street to speak with the UK's government ministers.

Sir Keir Starmer greeted him outside the famous black door, where the pair embraced and shook hands before heading inside.

One of the finest vintage yachts afloat, Kalizma (pictured top) has an iconic past with a tale steeped in history. Originally commissioned by Robert Stewart, vice commodore of the Royal Eastern Yacht Club (whose wealth came from his Scotch whisky distillery and estate), Minona , as she was named upon her launch, was the first steam-powered yacht to have electric lighting.

Designed by naval architect GL Watson & Co, leading designers of their day, and built by Ramage & Ferguson in Scotland, she is a testament to expert craftsmanship — and has stood the test of time with her classic Edwardian looks and fresh contemporary updates.

As Minona , she served in the British Royal Navy in both World War I and World War II, serving as an Auxiliary Patrol Vessel between 1914 and 1920, and in 1939 as HMS Minona. During her time as the flagship and base for His Majesty’s Deep Sea Rescue Tug Services in Scotland, she was responsible for saving the lives of crewmen from over 1,100 vessels.

On being relieved from her wartime duty, Minona went on to have a couple of different owners during the 1940s and ’50s, and during that period she also underwent a significant refit converting her from steam to diesel. It was during the 1960s that the then-named Odysseia made headlines when chartered by Richard Burton and his wife Elizabeth Taylor, and thus began her dalliance with glitz and glamour.

As a frequent guest of Aristotle Onassis aboard his yacht Christina O , Burton was inspired to purchase the classic yacht as a congratulatory gift for Taylor after she earned an Academy Award for her performance in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf ? The yacht was subsequently renamed Kalizma , after the stars’ children Kate, Liza and Maria, and refurbished with all new interiors said to have cost more than twice her asking price. Adorned with an art collection with works by Monet, Van Gogh and Picasso, and an extensive library, she became their floating home for the next decade.

It was on board Kalizma while berthed on the River Thames that Burton presented Taylor with the 33-carat Krupp Diamond, also known as the Elizabeth Taylor Diamond. Then, while berthed in Monaco, he gave her the record-breaking $1.5m 69-carat Cartier diamond, which arrived under police escort. Taylor wore the jewel, which became known as the Taylor-Burton Diamond, for the first time on a necklace at Princess Grace’s 40th birthday party.

A number of royalty, including Princess Grace of Monaco and Prince Rainier III, and distinguished personalities such as Rex Harrison and Tennessee Williams, were later guests of the most famous Hollywood couple during their high-profile ownership.

Kalizma has gone on to have a number of owners since then, including serial classic yacht owner Peter de Savary. Kalizma was de Savary’s flagship and floating headquarters for the British team at the 1983 America’s Cup challenge, hosting several spectators in Newport.

Acquired by Indian tycoon Vijay Mallya in 2006, and then by philanthropist Shirish Saraf in 2019, she has since been fully restored, rejuvenating her old-world charm with all the luxuries and amenities expected of a modern superyacht. Today she is available to charter in the Indian Ocean and Asia Pacific with accommodation for 10 guests in five staterooms, including a stunning master suite, two doubles and two twins.

Shenandoah of Sark

Shenandoah classic yacht

Key facts Builder: Townsend & Downey Built: 1902 Refit: 1972, 1996, 2018 LOA: 178 ft Number of guests: 10 Crew: 12

Built at the turn of a century for American banker Charles Fahnestock, Shenandoah , as she was then known, was one of the most high-profile yachts of her age and a symbol of one the most glamorous eras in yachting. Delivered in 1902 by the Townsend & Downey Shipyard in New York, she quickly gained a reputation not only for her celebrated design but for the parties held on board.

During these formative years Shenandoah played host to some of the world’s most powerful families and international royalty while in her homeport of Newport, Rhode Island. A few years later, Fahnestock retired and sailed her to the Mediterranean, where her reputation as one of the most elegant sailing yachts on the circuit was solidified, with parties held along the Côte d’Azur and Amalfi Coast becoming the most sought-after ticket for the yachting fraternity.

While cruising the Mediterranean, Shenandoah turned the head of German aristocrat Landrat Walter von Bruining, who went on to purchase the three-masted schooner and rechristened her Lasca II. Under Bruining’s ownership, Lasca II spent time in Germany and England, where he enjoyed just one summer in Cowes on the Isle of Wight before World War I broke out.

[See also: The 10 Biggest Superyachts in the World]

Commandeered by the British, she subsequently became the property of British shipbuilder Sir John Esplen, who reinstated her previous name and installed two engines on board. Shenandoah then went through a number of different names and owners, including an Italian prince and the Danish sculpture philanthropist, Viggo Jarl, between the wars. Jarl endowed a substantial part of his fortune on the renamed Atlantide, updating her with new diesel engines and an electricity plant, and embarking on a series of long passages to the West Indies and through the Panama Canal to South America.

At the onset of World War II, Jarl returned to Europe and hid Atlantide from the Nazis, removing her masts and engines to render her useless to either side. Surviving the war, and with her engines and masts reinstated on board, Atlantide continued to turn heads wherever she cruised, and also welcomed European royalty on board, including the Duke and Duchess of Windsor.

Shenandoah of Sark yacht

After surviving two World Wars, Atlantide’s run of good fortune was apparently over. During the next few decades she went ‘underground’ and is rumored to have seen her fair share of smugglers and gamblers, cruising throughout the Americas and Caribbean, before ending up in the Mediterranean, where she was seized by the French government in a tax scandal.

Following many years of neglect, she was rescued in 1972 by the inventor of the Bic ballpoint pen, Baron Marcel Bich. Restored to her former splendor and christened Shenandoah once again, Bich sailed the yacht back to America as a spectator boat for the America’s Cup — the first time she had been back to her original homeport of Newport for over 70 years.

Shenandoah spent several years under Bich’s ownership, immaculately maintained, before being purchased by industrialist Philip Bommer. Having witnessed Shenandoah sailing when he was just 13, Bommer had spent the ensuing two decades dreaming about owning her, and in 1986 his ambition was fulfilled. Extensively refit and restored once again, Shenandoah became a renowned charter yacht, before once again entering years of neglect.

Rescued once again, refit and refurbished, Shenandoah was an America’s Cup spectator for the second time, this time in New Zealand in 2000, before competing in the Millennium Cup superyacht regatta. Five circumnavigations later, with a number of successful transatlantic races and classic regattas under her belt, and via a number of owners and award-winning refits, the rechristened Shenandoah of Sark is today a perfectly preserved piece of sailing history.

Christina O

Christina O yacht

Key facts Builder: Canadian Vickers Built: 1943 Refit: 1954, 2001, 2015, 2018 LOA: 325.3 ft Number of guests: 34 Crew: 3

Christina O is a part of yachting legend. Arguably the most famous classic yacht still afloat, the fabled yacht of Aristotle Socrates Onassis has regularly entertained some of the world’s most powerful and famous people. She may not be a classic beauty like Delphine and Talitha but, thanks to the lavish parties hosted aboard by Onassis, with guest lists full of some of the most well-known names of the time, including Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, Christina (as she was then known) regularly featured in newspapers and on the cover of glossy magazines.

Becoming a part of the zeitgeist of her era — and as famous as some of the Hollywood stars who came aboard — she remains today a visible symbol of the glamorous lifestyle enjoyed by the yachting crowd from the late 1950s throughout the ’60s.

Originally built in 1943 as a Canadian naval frigate, Christina O remains the largest North American-built yacht still afloat. Purchased by well-known yacht owner and Greek shipping magnate Onassis in 1954, she was converted into the yacht that she is today. It is rumored that Onassis purchased the then-named HMCS Stormont for its scrap value of $34,000, and then spent over $4m converting the surplus anti-submarine frigate into the luxury yacht Christina, named after his firstborn child.

Christina O yacht

In those days this was a vast sum of money, but the investment paid off. Not only did Christina hugely enhance his status and fortune — as a venue for hosting businessmen and politicians, as well as film stars — but she also served as the backdrop for his famous romantic relationships, including his love affair with the renowned soprano Maria Callas. It was on board the converted frigate that John F. Kennedy met his idol Winston Churchill during a dinner hosted by Onassis, and a decade later where Onassis began his courtship of the widowed Jackie Kennedy. The yacht was even their wedding venue.

Despite seeing some deterioration under the ownership of the Greek government, Christina O has been refurbished and refitted; today she retains the fantastic opulence Onassis so extravagantly bestowed on her. In fact, she positively oozes ’50s Hollywood glamor; it could even be said she has only improved with age. As an in-demand charter yacht, her eternal appeal to a modern clientele is proven.

[See also: The Best Luxury Yacht Builders in the World]

All the modern comforts and luxuries that are expected on a luxury yacht seamlessly blend with her original features. All of the 17 guest suites have been refurbished, yet maintain the pastel decor selected by style icon Jackie O. The original, mosaic-tiled pool that transforms into a dance floor has also been restored, while the famous Ari’s barstools retain their original upholstery, believed to be sperm-whale foreskin — now there’s a conversation starter when you are perched at the bar.

Christina O is currently cruising the Caribbean and will be available for charter throughout the summer in the Mediterranean. The perfect yacht for large family groups or event charters, her SOLAS status allows up to 34 guests to cruise in total comfort in 17 double staterooms, 14 of which can be converted into twin staterooms.

From €620,000 to €700,000 (approx. $692,000 to $790,000) per week. Contact Morley Yachts, [email protected] , +33 680 863 091, morley-yachts.com

Key facts Builder: Camper & Nicholsons Built: 1928 Refit: 1947, 2009, 2013, 2018 LOA: 147 ft Number of guests: 16 Crew: 12

With a unique and historic pedigree, the Camper & Nicholsons-built Grace has led many lives during almost a century afloat. Built as a luxury yacht in 1928 and originally christened Monica, she was used by the British as part of the war effort. While serving in the Royal Navy as HMS Rion, she sadly suffered serious damage as part of the Dunkirk evacuation fleet.

Rescued by Aristotle Onassis in 1951 and renamed Arion , she played host to iconic figures like Winston Churchill and Elizabeth Taylor. On hearing of Prince Rainier’s engagement to Grace Kelly in 1955, Onassis presented the classic motor yacht to them as a gift for their forthcoming 1956 nuptials.

She was renamed Deo Juvante II , and the couple honeymooned aboard her, cruising Corsica and Sardinia. Acquired by the current owners in 2007, she spent more than two years in the shipyard being restored to her former glory and having additional superyacht luxuries installed, including air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms.

new era yachts photos

Rechristened Grace , she is available for charter in the Galápagos Islands for up to 16 guests and 12 crew. Great attention to detail has been given to restoring her original features, including the original brass ship’s wheel from 1927, which is still inscribed with the yacht’s original name. The master suite, known as the Grace Kelly Suite, is in the original location, while two further master suites and two twin-bedded cabins are all decorated to the highest standards.

Her communal guest areas feature period-style, custom furniture in keeping with her elegant build. In addition to her alfresco dining and lounging areas and hot tub, the toybox is geared towards exploring the Galápagos National Park and includes kayaks, snorkeling equipment and two Zodiac tenders.

Delphine yacht

Key facts Builder: Great Lakes Engineering Works Refit yard: Scheepswerf Zeebrugge Built: 1921 Refit: 1926, 1997, 2003, 2016 LOA: 258 ft Number of guests: 26, 150 day guests Crew: 26

Commissioned by auto magnate Horace Dodge and named after his only daughter, Delphine is the largest steam-powered yacht ever to be built in the US. Sadly, Horace never got to see the launch of this third private yacht he built, as he passed away just a year before her delivery. However, his wife Anna and their family loved and cherished Delphine , cruising on board her in the Great Lakes and along the East Coast, hosting cocktail parties on board.

With all her luxuries, including 10 magnificent staterooms, a music room, card room, dining room and smoking room, and a crew of 55, she positively defined 1920s East Coast glamor. In 1926, while she was docked on the Hudson River in Manhattan, two cabins caught fire, and with too much water poured in by the fire department, Delphine sank. Unwilling to live without her, the Dodge family salvaged her from the deep and restored her faithfully, with some additional renovations to her interior.

She suffered further, minor damage when she ran aground in the Great Lakes, before being repaired and acquired by the United States Navy at the start of the war to become the flagship for Admiral Ernest King, commander-in-chief of the US Fleet and chief of US Naval Operations during World War II. While still in service as USS Dauntless, she reputedly hosted Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Viatcheslav Molotov as they met with Admiral King to discuss war strategies and prepare the Yalta Convention.

new era yachts photos

Reacquired by the Dodge family after the war, she was restored to a private yacht and rechristened Delphine once again. Over the next three decades Delphine sailed under numerous ownerships and different names, including almost 20 years spent as a training ship for merchant seamen, until finally being sold (for scrap metal prices) in 1997.

Having crossed the Atlantic for the first time and berthed in the Mediterranean, she was towed to Bruges, Belgium, where she underwent a six-year, $60m restoration. Her new Belgian owner scoured museums and archives for Delphine’s original blueprints, in an effort to ensure that the engineering and architectural refit was faithful to her original design, right down to the 20-ft-tall quadruple steam engines, six-person Turkish bath and hairdressing salon. Even her bespoke tenders, handmade from Honduran mahogany, remain exactly as they were when she was brand new.

Rechristened in 2003 as Delphine by HSH Princess Stéphanie of Monaco , she is today the largest luxury yacht of her era with her original steam engines still in service. To put that into context, her 6-ft-tall propellers are powered by water converted into vapor pressure by diesel fuel. She consumes 600 liters an hour at cruising speeds. When you consider that many modern motor yachts of a similar size use more than 1,000 liters of fuel an hour, Delphine could almost be considered environmentally friendly. Full steam ahead.

Haida classic yacht

Key facts Builder: Friedrich Krupp Germaniawerft Refit yard: Pendennis Built: 1929 Refit: 2018 LOA: 233 ft Number of guests: 12 Crew: 18

At the time of her launch in 1929, this clipper-bow yacht was christened Haida , after the native people of Alaska and British Columbia. It is the name for which she is best known, and to which she has recently reverted following a comprehensive refit. However, the iconic Haida has sailed through a succession of adventures and has had many different names during her storied life.

Haida’s original commissioning owner spent over a decade cruising the west coast of America, pursuing his interests in marine science and fishing. In 1940, the oceangoing yacht was commandeered for service in World War II by the US Navy. She had a heroic naval career, saving many lives and protecting key installations while patrolling San Francisco Bay.

In 1946, post war, she returned to her role as a private yacht and moved to Alexandria in Egypt, where she cruised for five years before moving to the French Riviera in 1952 — just in time for the birth of the Mediterranean yachting scene.

new era yachts photos

She has resided in the Mediterranean ever since, under various ownerships of dedicated, high-profile owners, including Löel Guinness, becoming one of the world’s most famous superyachts.

Haida’s recent, award-winning refit by the renowned Pendennis Shipyard has combined the grandeur and elegance of 1930s yachting with state-of-the-art superyacht luxuries. Despite replacing over 100 tons of steel within her hull structure, Haida 1929 (as she is now known) retains the sophisticated and timeless exterior lines originally designed by Cox & Stevens.

Even the original Krupp engines remain, thought to be the oldest working engines of their type. Deck spaces are generous, especially on the recently extended sun deck, which has been split around her iconic funnel. Period furniture and artworks re-create the charm and ambience of her heritage, while a light color palette and modern amenities have been integrated.

Her notable features include a barber shop, spa, hammam, biofuel fireplace, indoor and outdoor cinemas, and stepped pool. Elegant and refined, Haida 1929 is a truly original classic. Refit project management by Edmiston Yachts.

La Sultana yacht at sea

Key facts Builder: Georgi Dimitrov Built: 1962 Refit: 2018 LOA: 213ft Number of guests: 12 Crew: 17

She may not hail from the golden era of yachting like other classic yachts her size, but this former Soviet spy ship is certainly not short on history. A true gentleman’s yacht, La Sultana has led many lives during her 50-plus years afloat. Originally built in 1962 in Bulgaria for use as a passenger ferry, Aji-Petri (as she was then known) was the fifth of a series of 12 ships that carried passengers and cargo through the Black Sea between the ports of Istanbul and Yalta.

She became a Soviet spy ship in the early 1970s when the Soviet Union took over the entire fleet of passenger ferries operating in the Black Sea to use for military purposes. Officially, she was in service in the North Atlantic for the International Telecommunication Union; however, in reality she was being used to eavesdrop and intercept radio telecommunications between the US and the UK. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Aji-Petri resumed her position as a passenger ferry before being used, in her original form, as a pleasure yacht in Tunisia.

La Sultana yacht interior

Some 50 years after her build, she was discovered by a French gentleman. It was during a colossal seven-year, multimillion-dollar restoration in Casablanca that the yard unearthed several espionage instruments, including a radioactivity detector and several electronic devices from the Cold War. With the addition of her raised bow, touch-and-go helipad, machinery, piping and wiring, commercial engine and a huge keel, the rechristened La Sultana emerged from the shipyard as a majestic cruising yacht.

Today, her striking interior features Art Deco touches that draw inspiration from the stylish vessels of the 1920s, while the Arabian Nights-inspired decor is both eccentric and exotic. The new layout features an indoor 16-ft counter-current swimming pool and hammam, and seven luxurious staterooms, including a vast master suite on the upper deck, two VIP staterooms on the main deck, and four staterooms on the lower deck, all with en suites — quite a difference from the original build with its 102 cabins.

Her large deck areas include lots of relaxation and entertainment areas, as well as a classically styled spa pool on the foredeck, located forward of the new helipad. With more than a nod to the golden age of yachting, the rebuilt La Sultana is a classic motor yacht for modern times.

Builder: Camper & Nicholsons Refit: Pendennis Built: 1937 Refit: 2015 LOA: 164 ft Number of guests: 10 Crew: 11

Designed by Charles E Nicholson and built by Camper & Nicholsons in 1937, Malahne is one of just a handful of British-built, pre-war motor yachts to have survived into the 21st century. Originally commissioned by William Stephenson, head of the British arm of the Woolworth store chain and a passionate yachtsman, this classic 1930s gentleman’s yacht has led a glamorous and colorful life, with many ups and downs. Stephenson owned both the J-Class yacht Velsheda and Malahne , and named them after his daughters Velma, Sheila and Daphne, with the first few letters of their names forming ‘Velsheda’ and the last few letters ‘ Malahne .’

She spent her first few years cruising the Mediterranean, and crossed the Atlantic a number of times before being handed over for military needs during World War II. During her time serving as a patrol cruiser in the English Channel, Malahne also participated in the evacuation of troops from Dunkirk.

Post war, Malahne passed through a few different hands before being acquired by the legendary Hollywood producer Sam Spiegel, who anchored her off Jordan to be used as a floating office while shooting Lawrence of Arabia. On retiring from her filming duties, Malahne became a fixture along the glittering Côte d’Azur, where Spiegel entertained Hollywood A-listers including Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly and Jack Nicholson. She also starred in the 1973 murder mystery The Last of Sheila , starring Raquel Welch.

Malahne deck

A decade later, she was sold to a Saudi sheikh who renamed her Adel XII and changed her beyond recognition, with an almost sacrilegious angular new superstructure and modern interior quite out of keeping with her classic past. Twenty years later, she passed into more sympathetic hands, and underwent a hugely ambitious restoration at the British shipyard Pendennis. The restoration experts there sought to bring her back to her original classic yacht form, but with the addition of a few 21st-century comforts.

While Pendennis worked on recreating her original hull form and undoing the damage wrought by the previous owner, classic yacht experts GL Watson & Co were drafted to rework her exterior lines; meanwhile, design experts from Oliver Laws — who designed the Art Deco interiors of the Connaught hotel and Claridge’s — set to work on her interior, producing a design more faithful to the original, including a number of original antique 1930s pieces but with a modern Art Deco twist.

Today, thanks to such a comprehensive and sympathetic refit by her devoted British owner, Malahne is a tribute to modern engineering and British craftsmanship. One of the finest classic yachts for charter , she features state-of-the-art equipment and Art Deco interior styling. Were he still alive, there’s no doubt that Sinatra would be delighted to tap his dancing shoes once again on board her stunningly restored teak decks.

With her flared clipper bow, impressive funnels and traditional counter stern, there couldn’t be a more classic-looking yacht reflecting the golden age of yachting than Talitha . Originally commissioned by Russell Algar of the Packard Motor Car Company, the originally named Reveler was sadly not yet delivered by the German shipyard F. Krupp in Kiel when Algar died.

Sold to Charles McCann of the Woolworth family and renamed Chalena, she was later requisitioned by the US Maritime Commission in 1942, and entered service as a gunboat with new armaments mounted fore and aft. Operating under her new military name of USS Beaumont in the waters between Midway Island and Pearl Harbor, she survived the war without serious incident, and in 1946 was decommissioned and returned to private ownership.

Post war, like many of her classic cousins, she spent many years lying abandoned — in her case on the Greek island of Petali, before being rescued by the Australian film producer Robert Stigwood and renamed Jezebel. Stigwood spent millions restoring much of her original elegance, with the addition of modern comforts including air conditioning and satellite communications systems.

new era yachts photos

Described by The New York Times as a “floating fantasy,” she featured a re-design of the distinctive clipper bow and new teak decks but, sadly, it wasn’t to last and, following some engine problems, she was laid up once again in the late 1980s. In 1993 she was brought to the attention of her next and current owner Sir John Paul Getty Jr.

Under the guidance of legendary designer Jon Bannenberg, she was painstakingly restored to her former glory, with both exterior and interior redesign and brand new engines. The addition of a pair of funnels and an extended wheelhouse was at the time criticized by many, but Bannenberg’s vision proved them wrong when the renamed Talitha G (named after Getty’s second wife) was relaunched to great acclaim, with more than a nod to her 1930s design.

One of the most detailed, distinctive and beautiful classic motor yachts to be relaunched in recent times, Talitha is suitably reflective of an incredibly glamorous era of yachting. Featuring an all-new Art Deco interior with all of the trappings of a modern classic, she is a real head-turner, not only for the Hollywood celebrities spotted on board, but for her own stunning looks.

Eros yacht sailing

Builder: Brooke Marine Built: 1939 Refit: 1999, 2016, 2019 LOA : 115 ft Number of guests: 8 Crew: 5

Delivered in 1939 by British shipyard Brooks Motor Craft, the classic sailing yacht Eros has led a colorful past, with lords, ladies and royalty all captivated by her charm and beautiful lines over her eight decades afloat. Originally christened Jeanry , she was commissioned for the daughter and son-in-law of a British lord who unfortunately spent very little time on board her before she was requisitioned by the Royal Navy to participate in the evacuation efforts at Dunkirk during World War II.

Following the end of her wartime service she went on to be owned by Greek shipping magnate Stavros Niarchos, second only to Aristotle Onassis in the shipping magnate stakes and also the first man to be called a billionaire. Niarchos rechristened her Eros in honor of the Greek god of love and passion, and under his ownership the wooden schooner became a fixture on the Mediterranean yachting circuit, hosting the cream of European society, including King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain.

Niarchos gifted the newlyweds the use of Eros along with his private Greek island, Spetsopoula, for their honeymoon in 1962. The island also hosted Prince Charles and Princess Diana for the latter part of their honeymoon while they cruised through the Mediterranean and Aegean on board the Royal Yacht Britannia.

new era yachts photos

Eros went on to change ownership just one more time before being rescued by her current owner in 1992. Meticulously restored to her original grandeur over the course of 18 years, she was relaunched in 2016 and now offers the refinement of a bygone era combined with the latest superyacht luxuries. Retaining many original details, including the Admiralty bronze fittings of the ship’s bell and restored Burmese teak planks, her complete overhaul involved repairs and replacements to her steel structure, and over 20,000 new bronze bolts, among many other things.

Today, Eros offers charter guests the chance to experience genuine sailing on a stunning classic yacht, either cruising in the Caribbean or Mediterranean or racing in classic regattas in the Caribbean and New England. Boasting state-of-the-art technology, 22 hydraulically assisted winches and 9,000 sq ft of sail, Eros can reach speeds of up to 10 knots under sail.

And for those looking to simply sit back and relax, her four guest cabins include a master stateroom with private en suite featuring a Jacuzzi bath, a double stateroom with en suite, and two twin cabins with shared bathroom. Out on deck, she boasts numerous seating and lounging areas for socializing, relaxing and alfresco dining.

Eros also offers plenty of on-the-water entertainment, with a great selection of water toys for her more active guests to enjoy.

New Models Listed In Order By Length (Ascending)

Princess X95 (Premiering At The Princess Experience!)

Princess has created an incredible level of excitement around the 2021 North American premiere of the all-new X95 Super Flybridge. It's appropriately named the X95 Super Flybridge because its flybridge and main deck level nearly cover the entire length of the yacht. This has allowed Princess to spaciously integrate all of the amenities you would find on a superyacht. Your guests will enjoy four luxurious staterooms, each with an en suite head, as well as a nearly full-beam VIP suite. The master stateroom is midship and is extraordinarily large for comfortable long-distance cruising.

Princess X80

Princess Yachts X80

As the second member of the X-Class model range, the new Princess X80 follows the same intriguing exterior lines as its larger sibling. The Super Flybridge concept is apparent as the bridge and main deck are nearly the length of the entire yacht and contribute 30% more space for relaxation that your typical 80' yacht. Durable and versatile in its long-range cruising capabilities, the interior is truly where the X80 shines. The over-sized, picture windows run the length of the boat and allow for extraordinary views from its raised main deck. The 4 en-suite cabins, that include a full-beam master, will surely leave everyone ready for tomorrow's adventures.

  • Prestige X70

As construction capabilities continue to advance in the yachting industry, builders are packing more space and volume into every area of the boat. The new Prestige X70 is no exception and utilizes a new design to offer a larger salon and lower deck accommodations. New on the X70 is the addition of a staircase leading from the bridge to the bow, as well as an addition staircase leading to the aft cockpit. The side-decks have essentially been moved to the flybridge, which allows the interior walls to be expanded and increased space. The X70 also just won the award for "Best Layout" at the 2020 World Yacht Trophies.

Prestige 690 Flybridge or S-Class

prestige 690 flybridge

Making its debut in early 2021, the new Prestige 690 Flybridge will debut alongside the new X70 and its sibling, the 690S (for Sportfly). Characterized by its large outdoor dining and socializing areas on the flybridge, expect the traditional Prestige features like picture windows. Created by Garroni Design, the fit-and-finish is stunning and every space on board is a piece of your home at sea. Offered in both flybridge and sportfly versions.

Absolute Navetta 64

Sometimes a model comes along in a range that simply outperforms everything that has come before it. Such is the case with the new Absolute Navetta 64 , dubbed the 'Pathfinder' for its luxury cruising abilities. The new Beach Club offers an innovative option for ensuring your guests' comfort while on board. In place of the normal transom garage, Absolute has created a VIP suite that is easily converted from an on-water cabana during the day to a full stateroom at night with queen-sized berth. There is also an en suite head, galley, storage, and a lovely terrace that can be shaded with a canopy. We anticipate the Navetta 64 to be an iconic model for Absolute and has already won "Best Innovation" from the World Yachts Trophies.
