We randomly wandered in while we were using the nearby Tesla supercharger. Sometimes you find a little small town gem. That was ... the case on our visit to this charming local bar and restaurant. We met Omar the owner who had a beaming personality and asolidly made pulled pork sandwich. He smokes the meat with hardwoods like pecan and mesquite. On our way home we will bestopping back by for the ribs. Definite hometown appeal with a number of pool tables, occasional live music and exceptionalservice. This place was a cool little surprise for us and we will be stopping by when we are traveling between California andArizona. Read more

Quartzsite Yacht Club Bar and Grill

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

We were looking for a spot to eat after shopping for crystals and stones in Quartzsite. There's not much to pick from aside the fast food places so we pulled up and the lot was full signaling to us that this may do the trick.... And a Yacht Club in the middle of the desert was quite intriguing. We pulled our bellies up to the bar and the bartender could not have been nicer. Funny thing was there were shelves full of liquor but for some reason they couldn't sell liquor that day which was fine with us. The place was full, Saturday afternoon Karaoke couldn't be beat! Loved watching all sorts of people get up and sing, some were great and some hurt, LOL. But all in all it was great entertainment. We all ordered fish and chips, nothing really out of the ordinary. The "chip's" sadly tasted like they were also fried with the fish so they tasted somewhat fishy. The fried fish was just OK, all came out piping hot. I don't think I would order it again.....or maybe even go back. One great asset was the lovely bartender who served us, she was great, super friendly and so kind. More

We were on a roadtrip, and stopped into Quartzite for lunch. We read about this place, and were really happy we had lunch there. It's not fancy -- in fact, the name is hilarious, because you're nowhere near water -- and they play on that... fact. The staff was super friendly and efficient and the food was really good. There's not a lot going on in Quartzsite, but if you're passing through, I recommend stopping here. More

Since this was our first winter in Quartzite we tried many of the restaurants; this was one of our favorites. The food has always been excellent, the prices are decent, the staff is fast , efficient, and friendly. the only complaint: they close the first... week of March. More

At the time we visited the business liquor license had been suspended. They have an elaborate bar that was unused due to this issue. We were disappointed not to be able to enjoy a beer with our fish and chips, but stayed because they obviously... needed our business. The fish and chips were well prepared with generous portions. Service was spotty. The wait help initially appeared to not realize we were there despite a nearly empty facility and plenty of staff in the dining room. Once we were recognized service was good, but not great considering the number of wait staff with few patrons to wait on. More

Went to the Yacht Club and found that the parking lot was empty. Curious, I walked up to read the notice posted on the door. Seems as though the tenant had neglected to pay the lease for over a year, so the owner had forcibly... closed the place. It smelled like they cut the power as the stench of rotting fish pervaded the air around the doorway. Good luck finding this place open anytime in 2020. More

This place is a mess. The restaurant owner is a gossip sitting around d spreading rumors and generally spending her time talking about town folk that she obviously has no knowledge about

Good food, good value, friendly staff and an excellent band (Hot Country) on Friday and Saturday nights. How can you beat that? Their rib eye steak special in December was the best steak I'd eaten in years. Delicious!

Five of us ordered the fish and it wasn't very good. Not sure what kind of fish it was. One got the salad and said it was very good. The service was great. I don't recommend the fish there. The entertainment was great. The singer... sang a lot of familiar country songs and several got up and danced. More

We’ve been patrons of the Yacht Club during the winter for years. Always reliable food, a good glass of wine, and tons of fun. The fun’s still there, but the food now seems to be coming out of a box of frozen something-or-other, and the... Merlot isn’t drinkable. Sadly, this is going to cost them in the long run! People won’t go back if they can’t get a decent meal. It’s not just us - our group all feels the same way (and it’s a pretty large group!). Also, the Yacht Club members used to get a half price night once a week. Even that’s been knocked down to 20%. Granted, it’s still a discount, but.... Hopefully the new manager will check on her reviews & make the change back. More

This quirky little restaurant/bar is a good place for fish and chips. The service was good and the place was crowded at lunch-time. There were burgers and the like on the menu, also. Pool table and full bar, small dance floor. Band at night. What's... not to like!? More

This is a bar and some decent food. Not fine dining (Quartzsite?) but ok. A little pricy and not great but ok food. Sports bar try atmosphere. I'd come again if in the area. Don't ya love the name on the desert? Don't look for... boats to rent. More

We were there on a Wednesday night, when they had Karaoke and it was a busy night. Seemed that everyone was enjoying themselves. We had a group of four in for an early dinner. We all had the Fish & Chips we all thought it... was pretty good. Certainly a dinner that we all enjoyed and a place we would definitely go again.. More

The fish is coated in a light crispy coating and it is cooked to perfection. The salad is the best in the area. Fresh greens and a variety of additions. The beer was draft and cold Delicious all around

Between karaoke nights, half-priced dinners for Club members ($30 for a lifetime membership - in the world's largest yacht club!), live music, nightly specials, and just an all-around good time, go here! Wonderful friendly staff, great food, and excellent new owners! Our favourite evening out... when we're in the zone! More

We made a lunch stop in Quartzsite while driving from Phoenix to Los Angeles. I'd read an article about the Yacht Club so we decided to check it out. I was expecting pre-fab warmed up food, but was pleasantly surprised to find it freshly prepared... and reasonably priced fare The clientele seemed to be a mix of locals and fellow highway travelers. If you need to grab a bite while on the road it's worth a stop. More

Eating Out in Quartzsite

While we didn’t eat in ALL of the restaurants in Quartzsite during our time there in December, we did check out several of them.  A few things that you might like to know about the restaurant scene in Quartzsite:

  • Many of these establishments close during the offseason.
  • Hours of operation, especially for the seasonal restaurants, seem to change as the season changes.  I suggest calling ahead to verify hours of operation.  I found the hours listed below on Google (except where noted) when writing this blog.
  • Most restaurants close early.  You may want to adjust your mealtime if your normal dinner time is after 7:00. During our visit in December, we only found a couple of restaurants that aren’t fast-food chain restaurants open for service after 7:00.
  • Keep in mind that, all over the country, it’s tough to hire restaurant staff these days.  I imagine that it’s even tougher when you add to this the population of the town and seasonality of the business.  IF you’re looking for five-star dining, you’re not in the right place.

These are the places where we ate out during our time in the area.  There isn’t a place listed that I absolutely wouldn’t go back to, although I’ve ranked them starting with my favorite.

#1 Silly Al’s Pizza ( http://sillyalspizza.com/ ) – open from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. daily, this is the most happening place in town.  It also seems to be the only place in town that offers “late night” food year-round.  With live entertainment (and a dance floor) on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, we had a few meals here during our visit.  Neither of us ordered pasta, so I don’t have any comments about the quality of these dishes, but the pizza is very good, the salads, especially Al’s Special Salad, are generous, and sandwiches well-executed.  Additionally, they offer a full bar with a good selection of craft beers.   Service exceeded my expectations, with staff able to answer questions accurately about the current tap selections.  Silly Al’s was hands down our favorite place to go out in Quartzsite.

quartzsite yacht club restaurant bar

#2 Taco Mio ( https://taco-mio.business.site/ ) – according to their website and their Google listing, they are open from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. daily., but one evening when we stopped around 7, we found them closing.  Quick service and good classic Mexican puts this near the top of my list.  I love Chiles Rellenos.  While I find it difficult to resist ordering them, I’m often disappointed.  The Chiles Rellenos here are delicious, stuffed with cheese and fried in a traditional egg batter.  These chiles oozed cheesy goodness.  Chips and salsa are a small upcharge, but good quality.  The marquee outside advertises all you can eat fish and chips which several people ordered at tables near us.  According to reviews I read, they offer beer and margaritas.  Our server didn’t offer this, and I never saw anyone drinking them.

#3 Quartzsite Yacht Club Restaurant Bar ( http://www.quartzsiteyachtclub.com/ ) – open 12 noon – 7 p.m. (according to their FaceBook account, which seems to be much more accurate than the Google listing).  Closed most of the time that we were in Quartzsite over a dispute with their landlord, the restaurant appears to have reopened in time for the busy season.  We had lunch at the bar on our first day in town, and despite a few of the Karaoke singers, enjoyed our time.  We considered buying a membership but were thankful that we didn’t spend the money when we found the place closed for the rest of our time in town.  Omar, the bartender and owner’s brother, provided great service and good humor.

quartzsite yacht club restaurant bar

#4 Times 3 Family Restaurant – open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily in season.  This restaurant has a wider selection of foods to choose from, including a selection of Mexican foods and dinners available after 11 a.m.  Prices are very good, and portions are generous.  This place can accommodate a larger party and had several large groups when we were there.  These groups may have played a role in our order being missed either by the kitchen or our server, leading to a very long wait.  Once served, we found our burritos to be quite tasty.

#5 Grubstake Social Club ( http://www.grubstakeaz.com/ ) – open from 11 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. daily.  If you love large portions for low prices, this might be your place.  Specializing in fried foods with an emphasis on fried seafood, burgers, and wings, and offering full bar service, this place will likely pack ‘em in during the busy season.  I ordered a double cheeseburger one night and, although I was hungry, couldn’t eat more than a single patty.  We watched as the waitress served the fried seafood platter to a neighboring table of two.  It was truly a heaping platter of food that they were packing up half of as we were heading out.  Note:  the menu featured on their website is similar to the menu the server presented us in December.

#6 Main Street Eatery – open 6:30 a.m. – 1:45 p.m. daily, offers prompt service, and good food.  I liked the chicken quesadilla that I had one afternoon.  Generously-portioned enough for me to offer a piece or two to Brian,  and leave fully satisfied.  A grilled chicken salad with toasted sesame dressing on another afternoon tasted great but had me looking for a snack a few hours later.  The collection of camels in this place is pretty amazing, and it’s connected to the laundromat, so if you’re looking for clean clothes and a full stomach, this might be your place.

#7 Mountain Quail Café ( http://mountainquailcafe.com/ ) – open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.  A little off the beaten path of Main Street, this place serves up good food.  The tuna salad sandwich I ordered was unusual with what seemed to be pickle relish in place of the fresh celery and onion that I am used to seeing in tuna salad, but it tasted good.  Many people around us seemed to be eating breakfast foods despite the time of day.  Baked good offerings looked delicious.

#8 Fair Time Foods Family Restaurant – open 8 a.m. – 7 p.m., closed Sunday.  Breakfast is all you can eat buffet, but think “hotel lobby buffet included in your stay” food with powdered eggs, pre-cooked sausage, pancakes with warm chocolate pudding.  I enjoyed a bowl of chicken and dumplings for lunch one afternoon, and Brian had a corn dog that seemed to be fresh-battered before going in the fryer.  While we never returned for dinner,  they offer a program called “Seconds,” which is a rotation of a featured entrée each night throughout the week.  Diners, paying a flat rate for the entrée (lasagna, shepherd’s pie, meatloaf, etc.) served with appropriate side dishes, can have seconds.  It was unclear to me if dinners are brought to the table or served by way of their buffet.

#9 Sweet Darlene’s – Google listing has hours of operation currently set to open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.  However, these were not the hours when we were there.  Service is ok, and so is the food.  Having grown up near lots of great Jewish delis in the Detroit area, I should not have had high expectations of the Reuben sandwich featured on their menu.  For me, it was a disappointment, but not as much as the grilled ham and cheese sandwich that arrived with one lonely slice of American cheese and a couple of thin slices of ham.   Brian, the connoisseur of chili, said this was the best in town, and I also found it to be quite good.  The sweet breakfast rolls we purchased to take home were delicious and could send me back for more.

Also, in Quartzsite, if you’re looking for a fun place to enjoy a few adult beverages on a nice day, you might check out Beer Belly’s Adult Day Care ( https://www.facebook.com/beerbellysquartzsite/ ).  Open 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily.  You can find this outdoor beer garden on the backside of the swapmeet off of Kuehn and Central Streets.  With a full bar, entertainment, and games, we enjoyed a Sunday afternoon visit.  A connected food truck appears to offer food sometimes, but not on the afternoon of our visit.  We would have gone back multiple times if they were open later, but I guess that’s why it’s a daycare.

Quirky Quartzsite, Arizona: What You Need to Know

A Guide to Visiting "The Rock Capital of the World"

quartzsite yacht club restaurant bar

Pass through the small hamlet of Quartzsite, Arizona, in the summer, and you may think nothing happens in this flat desert town. But come winter, the entire area bustles with activity—and not just from tumbleweeds.

During the two months, RVers come by the thousands to camp (called "boondocking" here) in the temperate if fairly primitive desert conditions. Yet, there's another reason people descend in droves during the winter: a love of geology.

Quartzsite, with its unusual concentration of collectible gems, minerals, and precious metals, has been a rock hound's paradise since the 1960s. It swells in population each winter thanks to more than 1 million visitors, most of whom converge on the small town in a wave of RVs during January and February. The Desert USA website explains the draw:

“Eight major gem and mineral shows as well as vendors of raw and handcrafted merchandise peddle their wares to snowbirds, collectors and enthusiasts.”

Located in the Sonoran Desert of western Arizona, Quartzsite sits just 18 miles east of the Colorado River on Interstate 10. The 125-mile trip takes about two hours from Phoenix; the town is also easy to reach from Los Angeles in under five hours by car.

The annual show season runs from October through April, though the main events take place in January and February. If you like gems and minerals, hit the sales during the big “rock hound” events when you can find collectible geodes, crystals, and even fossilized bones from around the globe. Antique hunters score at the swap meets, and you can find unusual handmade items and one-of-a-kind jewelry at the nearly constant craft shows. Add in a mix of classic car shows, chili cook-offs, and  RV shows and sales , and Crazy Quartzsite keeps your social calendar full.

Check the  Quartzsite calendar  so you can come during the events that most interest you. Grab a copy of  The Desert Star  newspaper when you get to town for more up-to-date news and ads.

How does a town in the Sonoran Desert, hundreds of miles from the nearest body of water, gain the largest yacht-club membership in the world? Back in the 1970s, Al Madden opened the Quartzsite Yacht Club Restaurant Bar & Grill and started selling memberships as a joke. By 2010, more than 10,000 people representing every state and numerous countries around the world had become card-carrying members of the Quartzsite Yacht Club.

What to Expect

Be prepared for traffic during the height of the season; I-10 frequently gets backed up in January and February.

It’s dusty out there in the desert, and most shopping takes place outdoors in makeshift tents along rows of RVs. The wind can pick up or a rainstorm can move in suddenly, so be prepared with a jacket, sturdy outdoor clothes, and walking shoes.

If you're not prepared to bed down in an RV, a handful of chain hotels operate in Quartzsite. You can also stay on the west side of Phoenix and venture into Quartzsite as a day trip.
