Master Chess

Yacht is a classic dice game, dating back from 1938. The game is the predecessor of Yahtzee and has a lot of similarities to the Latin-American Generala, the Scandinavian Yatzy and the English game of Poker Dice. In this game, you have got 6 dice and the goal is to throw as much special combinations as possible. A turn starts with the first throw. After this throw you can choose which dice you want to lock for your combination, and you can throw the other dice for a second time. From this throw you can again lock some dice and then you can make a final throw. After this throw you can choose which combination you get in the scorecard.

Try to go for the higher combinations first. If you don't have a good combination at the end of your turn, make sure to put it on the lower combinations as they are worth less points.

How to play:

Use you mouse/finger and follow the instructions on the screen.

About the creator:

Yacht was created by Codethislab. They are well known for all their classic games on Poki, like Uno Online, Foosball and Master Checkers.

Yahtzee Rules

The objective of YAHTZEE is to get as many points as possible by rolling five dice and getting certain combinations of dice.

In each turn a player may throw the dice up to three times. A player doesn't have to roll all five dice on the second and third throw of a round, he may put as many dice as he wants to the side and only throw the ones that don't have the numbers he's trying to get. For example, a player throws and gets 1,3,3,4,6. He decides he want to try for the large straight, 1,2,3,4,5. So, he puts 1,3,4 to the side and only throws 3 and 6 again, hoping to get 2 and 5.

In this game you click on the dice you want to keep. They will be moved down and will not be thrown the next time you press the 'Roll Dice' button. If you decide after the second throw in a turn that you don't want to keep the same dice before the third throw then you can click them again and they will move back to the table and be thrown in the third throw.

Upper section combinations

  • Ones: Get as many ones as possible.
  • Twos: Get as many twos as possible.
  • Threes: Get as many threes as possible.
  • Fours: Get as many fours as possible.
  • Fives: Get as many fives as possible.
  • Sixes: Get as many sixes as possible.

For the six combinations above the score for each of them is the sum of dice of the right kind. E.g. if you get 1,3,3,3,5 and you choose Threes you will get 3*3 = 9 points. The sum of all the above combinations is calculated and if it is 63 or more, the player will get a bonus of 35 points. On average a player needs three of each to reach 63, but it is not required to get three of each exactly, it is perfectly OK to have five sixes, and zero ones for example, as long as the sum is 63 or more the bonus will be awarded.

Lower section combinations

  • Three of a kind: Get three dice with the same number. Points are the sum all dice (not just the three of a kind).
  • Four of a kind: Get four dice with the same number. Points are the sum all dice (not just the four of a kind).
  • Full house: Get three of a kind and a pair, e.g. 1,1,3,3,3 or 3,3,3,6,6. Scores 25 points.
  • Small straight: Get four sequential dice, 1,2,3,4 or 2,3,4,5 or 3,4,5,6. Scores 30 points.
  • Large straight: Get five sequential dice, 1,2,3,4,5 or 2,3,4,5,6. Scores 40 points.
  • Chance: You can put anything into chance, it's basically like a garbage can when you don't have anything else you can use the dice for. The score is simply the sum of the dice.
  • YAHTZEE: Five of a kind. Scores 50 points. You can optionally get multiple Yahtzees, see below for details.

Multiple Yahtzees

The rules around multiple Yahtzees are a bit complex. There are a couple of different cases:

  • You already have a Yahtzee: You get a 100 bonus points in the Yahtzee box, but you also have a joker, which means that you can choose another move for the Yahtzee you just got. If the number you got yahtzees with has not been filled out in the upper section, then you must choose that. E.g. if you get an additional Yahtzee with 2's, and you haven't filled out the 2's in the upper section then you must choose that, and get 10 points for it. If the upper section box is already filled then you can choose any of the lower region boxes, and they will be scored as normal. Yahtzee is a superset of 3 of a kind, 4 of a kind, full house and chance, but you can also choose small or large straight and will get the normal 30 and 40 points for those.

Multiplayer

Note: To keep things simple and even as possible, all multiplayer games allow multiple Yahtzees.

Strategy tips

Try to get the bonus. Focus on getting good throws with fives and sixes, then it won't matter if you put 0 in the ones or twos. You can always put in 0 for a combination if you don't have it, even if you have some other combination. E.g. if you had 2,3,4,5,6 and the only things you had left were Ones and Sixes, then it would be better to put 0 in Ones than to put only 6 in Sixes.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the game.

About Yahtzee

Author image

This online version of YAHTZEE was made by me. My name is Einar Egilsson and over there on the left is my current Facebook profile picture! In the last couple of years I've made a number of simple online card games, including Hearts and Spades . After making seven card games and three solitaires I figured it was time to try something else, so I decided to make YAHTZEE (or YATZY as it's known here in Denmark, where the rules and scoring are also slightly different). It's been a fun game to make, and I'm looking forward to seeing how well Bill will play against human opponents :)

The game is made using JavaScript, HTML and CSS, with jQuery and a couple of jQuery plugins used for animations. Since I have no artistic talent whatsoever I used graphics that I found at OpenClipArt , a great site with free graphics.

Yahtzee (Yatzy) is an incredibly fun board game you can play online for free. Give it a try now!

Here (briefly) are the yahtzee rules.

If you ever find yourself bored on a lazy Sunday afternoon or evening, consider playing a few rounds of Yahtzee (Yatzy) online. This board game that's easy to learn and free to play is an excellent way to alleviate boredom.

The game's objective is to roll five dice to achieve every one of the 13 scoresheet combinations so you can get the highest score. Decide player order by rolling the dice. The person getting the highest number goes first, and play then proceeds in a clockwise direction.

A turn consists of a player rolling the dice up to three times. After the first roll, decide which scorecard combination you'd like to shoot for. Keep only the dice that'll help you attain this combination and reroll the others.

At the end of three rolls, write down your score in one of the boxes. If you fail to achieve your combination, you either get a zero, or you can total up all your points and put them in the Chance category.

The Upper Half of the Scorecard

The scorecard has two sections: an upper and lower half. The topmost section consists of six boxes—one for each of the numbers on the dice. Total up all the dice with the number that matches that box. For example, if you rolled four threes, mark the score as "12" in the threes box.

You'll receive a bonus of 35 points if you score 63 points or more in this section.

The Lower Half

Scoring in the lower half is a bit more complicated, with combinations based on classic poker hands:

  • THREE OF A KIND: Three dice with the same number value plus the total of the rest of the dice.
  • FOUR OF A KIND: Four dice with the same number plus the total of the remaining dice.
  • FULL HOUSE: Three of a kind combined with two of a kind, giving you a score of 25 points.
  • SMALL STRAIGHT: Four dice in consecutive numerical order for a total of 30 points.
  • LARGE STRAIGHT: Five dice in consecutive numerical order gives you a total of 40 points.
  • CHANCE: The sum of all dice.
  • YAHTZEE: Five of the same number for a score of 50 points.

Scoring Additional Yahtzees

For every Yahtzee you get after your initial one, you'll get 100 points. You'll also receive a wild card you can use in any other category with one caveat: if you haven't filled out the upper section box that corresponds to the number that gave you the Yahtzee, you'll need to do that first.

If you've already used that box, use your wild card in any lower section box.

Winning the Game

The player getting the highest score after completing all 13 rounds wins the game. If you'd like more information, check out the complete rules including how to play Yahtzee .

Strategic Tips to Level Up Your Skills

Now that you've learned the basics of the game, it's time to learn a little strategy. Many of the following tips depend on knowing which dice to keep and which ones to throw out, and the best time to go for a particular combination.

While most people know that casino games such as blackjack allow for a high degree of strategic play, not many know that the same thing applies to Yahtzee. Making the right strategic choices makes the game less about luck and more about skill. The more you play Yahtzee, the better you'll get at levering your strategic knowledge to beat the pants off opponents, which can be immensely satisfying!

Kelly Lord

Yahtzee is a game that perfectly blends strategy, a touch of luck, and even mathematical intuition. The thrill of rolling the dice and seeing them land just right to create high-scoring combinations is truly captivating. It's a game that requires both strategic thinking and a bit of numerological magic, inviting you to create your own winning formula. I also like that, like many of the other online card games on this site, you can play with friends and family! That's one way to have fun! Thank you!

Kelly Lord (EsoLoung.com): Numerology Chart Guru

Hold Off on Using the Chance Box

In Yahtzee, it can be tempting to use the Chance box when you utterly fail to achieve the combination you were shooting for. However, it would be best to only use this category after exhausting all other options. That way, you'll avoid using this box too soon, and the option will be available to you when you absolutely need it.

For example, if you get a lousy roll early in the game, it might be better to mark a zero on the ones or twos in the upper section than to use the Chance box.

Focus on Getting a High Score in the Upper Section

Because a 35-point bonus is nothing to sneeze at, focus on getting the highest possible score in the upper section with laser-sharp intensity. That way, you'll maximize the odds of racking up 63 points so you can snag the bonus and end up with an above-average score.

However, if you feel scoring the bonus on the upper section is no longer an option, you might want to change your strategy to trying to roll as many Yahtzees as you can. Getting two Yahtzees in a single game could be enough to score a decisive win over your opponents, even if you get a horrible score in the upper section.

Don't Stop at Just One Yahtzee

Many players make the mistake of timidly stopping going after Yahtzees after getting their first one. However, remember that you get a whopping 100-point bonus for every Yahtzee after your initial one, plus a wild card you can use in any scoring category.

These big bonuses should be enough incentive to shoot for multiple Yahtzees.

Keep Full Houses Consisting of Low Numbers

Keep a full house consisting of lower number dice if you shake one early in the game. However, if the full house has some higher numbers, you might want to reroll the lower numbers to maximize your points. For example, if you roll a full house consisting of two twos and three sixes on your first shake, re-shake those twos to see if you can get even more sixes.

Yahtzee is a beloved dice-rolling game where players roll 5 dice and try to create unique, high-scoring combinations for 13 rounds. Whether you’re playing by yourself or with a friend, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about this simple game, including how to play and score your match correctly. We’ll also touch on some handy strategies you can apply to your next game so you can achieve the highest possible score.

How do you play a turn in Yahtzee?

  • Roll the dice and see if you have any multiples (like three 2s) or potential combos (like a 1, 2, and 3). Take these “keeper” dice and set them aside.
  • Roll the remaining dice a second time and hold onto any promising dice that can help you complete a combo worth lots of points.
  • Roll any leftover dice a third time and decide which combo category you’d like to score for this round. Write your score down on the score card.

How to Play Yahtzee

Step 1 Roll the dice to see who goes first.

  • Your Yahtzee game should come with a set of dice and a cup/shaker to use.
  • Skip this step if you’re playing Yahtzee by yourself.

Step 2 Roll the dice for the first time.

  • Aces: Having at least one 1 dice (point value: the sum of all your 1s)
  • Twos: Having at least one 2 dice (point value: the sum of all your 2s)
  • Threes: Having at least one 3 dice (point value: the sum of all your 3s)
  • Fours: Having at least one 4 dice (point value: the sum of all your 4s)
  • Fives: Having at least one 5 dice (point value: the sum of all your 5s)
  • Sixes: Having at least one 6 dice (point value: the sum of all your 6s)
  • 3 of a kind: Three identical dice (point value: the sum of all your dice)
  • 4 of a kind: Four identical dice (point value: the sum of all your dice)
  • Full House: A pair of identical dice and a trio of identical dice (worth 25 points)
  • Small Straight: A 1, 2, 3, and 4; a 2, 3, 4, and 5; or a 3, 4, 5, and 6 (worth 30 points)
  • Large Straight: A 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 or a 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 (worth 40 points)
  • Yahtzee: Five identical dice (worth 50 points)
  • Chance: Any assortment of 5 dice (point value: the sum of all your dice)

Step 3 Roll for the second time.

  • If you’re happy with your dice, feel free to end your turn here.
  • Keep a few different scoring categories in mind as you roll to help maximize your score.

Step 4 Roll for the third time.

  • For example, if you rolled three 1s and two 4s, you could stick your score in the “Ones” or “Fours” row (for 3 or 8 points, respectively), or count it as a Full House for 25 points.

Step 5 Write your score on the scorecard and end your turn.

  • If your dice total doesn’t work for any of the scoring categories, put a “0” down for one of the categories instead. [7] X Research source

Step 7 Tally up your points and declare a winner.

  • Yahtzee scorecards are designed to track multiple games, so feel free to start another game if everyone’s feeling up to it!

Step 1 A Yahtzee scoresheet is divided into Upper and Lower Sections.

  • The Upper Section includes your scores for Aces, Twos, Threes, Fours, Fives, and Sixes. The Lower Section includes 3 of a kind, 4-of-a-kind, Full House, Small Straight, Large Straight, Yahtzee, and Chance.
  • Yahtzee scorecards come with multiple columns so they can be repurposed for multiple games of Yahtzee. As you play, record your scores in the same column.
  • Don’t have a scorecard on hand? Print out a blank scorecard here .

Step 2 Aces: the sum of your 1s

  • Example: If you rolled four 1s during your 3 turns, your total score for this Section would be 4.

Step 3 Twos: the sum of your 2s

  • Example: If you rolled three 2s during your turn, your total score for this Section would be 6.

Step 4 Threes: the sum of your 3s

  • Example: If you only rolled one 3 during your turn, your score for the round would just be 3.

Step 5 Fours: the sum of your 4s

  • Example: If you rolled four 4s during your turn, your score for the round would be 16.

Step 6 Fives: the sum of your 5s

  • Example: If you rolled two 5s during your turn, you’d write 10 in for your score.

Step 7 Sixes: the sum of your 6s

  • Example: If you rolled four 6s, your score for the round would be 24.
  • Special bonus: If the combined total of your Aces, Twos, Threes, Fours, Fives, and Sixes rows is higher than 63, you get a 35-point bonus to your total score. [9] X Research source

Step 8 3 of a kind: the sum of all dice

  • Example: Rolling three 3s, one 2, and one 6 would count as a 3 of a kind. Combined, your total would be 17 for the round.

Step 9 4 of a kind: the sum of all dice

  • Example: If you had four 4s and one 1, your total for the round would be 17.

Step 10 Full House: 25 points

  • What if I marked 0 for Yahtzee already? According to Yahtzee’s official “joker rules,” you can count your Yahtzee toward its corresponding number, 3 of a kind, 4 of a kind, Full House, Small Straight, Large Straight, or Chance. The normal scoring rules apply, like adding up the dice total for 3s/4s of a kind or earning 25 points for a Full House. If you already used these categories, put a 0 in any leftover Upper Section rows. [10] X Research source

Step 14 Chance: the sum of all dice

  • Getting a 1 and 2 early on can also work well for a Full House.

About This Article

Ashton Wu

Yahtzee is a fun dice game for 2 or more players where players roll dice and try to get combinations to get the highest score. To play the game, start by rolling all 5 dice. You can keep your roll as is, re-roll all of the dice, or save some of the dice and re-roll the rest. You can roll a total of 3 times per turn. As you’re rolling, you want to try to get one of the combinations listed on your score sheet. The upper section of your score sheet has score boxes for ones, twos, threes, fours, fives, and sixes. If you have 3 sixes at the end of your turn, you could write “18” in the sixes box since that’s how much all of your sixes add up to. Or, if you end your turn with 2 fives, you could write “10” in the fives box. It works the same for the rest of the boxes in the upper section. You can only score one box per turn. If all of your scores in the upper section add up to 63 or higher, you earn a 35 point bonus at the end of the game. The lower section of your score sheet has score boxes for different dice combinations you can roll, including 3 of a kind, 4 of a kind, full house, small straight, large straight, Yahtzee, and Chance. If you end your turn with one of these combinations, write the corresponding score that appears on the scoresheet in the box for that combination. A Yahtzee is when you roll 5 of a kind. Your first Yahtzee is worth 50 points, then subsequent Yahtzees are worth 100 points. Chance is the total of any 5 dice combined, and you can score it at the end of any turn in the game no matter what you rolled. If a player isn’t able to fill in one of the score boxes on their sheet at the end of their turn, they must cross any score box off of their choosing. Play continues clockwise until every player has filled in or crossed off all of the boxes on their score sheet. Then, the players add up their total scores. Whoever scores the highest wins the game! A typical turn First, you roll your dice, by pressing the Roll button. Based on what you rolled, you can score one row on your scoresheet, based on the following rules:

To score a row, simply tap or click on the corresponding row in the scoresheet under your player's column. Once you've scored a particular row, your turn ends. You can only score a row once per game - so choose wisely!

If you don’t like what you've rolled, don't worry - you have a total of three rolls every turn. Before your next roll, you may choose to keep dice by clicking or tapping on them. This will prevent those dice from being rolled. For example, if you've rolled 6,6,6,1,2 on your first roll, you may want to keep your sixes and roll for a four of a kind or Yahtzee.

The game continues until all players have filled out all rows, at which point the person with the most points wins.

You now know how to play Yahtzee! But there's a few more special rules you may want to learn:

The bonus The top section is the first six rows - ones, twos, threes, fours, fives and sixes. If the sum of your score in the top section is greater than or equal to 63, you automatically get 35 bonus points. Spectacular!

Multiple Yahtzees Your first Yahtzee is worth 50 points if you score it in the Yahtzee row. If you roll an additional Yahtzee, and you've already scored your Yahtzee, you:

  • Automatically get 100 bonus points 😲
  • You can use the additional Yahtzee as a joker or wild card. If you haven't scored the corresponding number in the top section, you must score it there - for example, if you've rolled five sixes, and you haven't scored your Sixes, you can score it there. If you've already scored the corresponding number in the top section, you can score it anywhere you like on the bottom.

If you roll a Yahtzee and you've already entered a 0 on your Yahtzee row, you may still use it as a wild card.

With 100 points. Spectacular!

Yahtzee - Yacht Dice Game

Catch your luck in the online game Yahtzee (Yacht Dice Game)! Score points by rolling five dice to get the best combination. Learn the rules and strategy for scoring, then practice your skills with the computer whenever you want.

Play full screen

Welcome to Yahtzee (Yacht Dice Game) online – play for free and without registration, on PC and smartphone. Controlling the computer mouse, roll five dice and try to get the most favorable amount. You can roll the dice three times (and save the right ones by clicking on them).

How to play Yahtzee online

Traditionally 2 to 6 players participate, the online opponent in this version will be a computer, represented by three players. During 12 rounds, the opponents take turns rolling 5 dice. After each roll, the player must choose which numerical values to keep and which to discard, depending on which scoring category he plans to use.

It is allowed to reroll all or some of the dice, no more than three times per turn. The winner in poker on the dice is the player who has an automatic victory for the combination “Yacht” or who finished the game with the highest score.

Yacht Dice Game combinations

By numerical coincidence (“sixes”, “fives”, “fours”, “threes”, “twos”, “ones”) – the player is allowed to add the same numbers of the chosen category. For example, a roll of the dice: 3-3-3-2-2-5 counts as 3 + 3 + 3 = 9 points in “threes”, 2 points in “twos” or 5 in “fives”.

As in card poker, the combination on the dice of five consecutive values is called “Straight” and brings 30 points. The difference is that here a “straight” is a set of any five non-matching digits.

  • Full house – 3 and 2 repeats, evaluated as the sum of all values.
  • Yacht – (all five dice have the same number on them) brings 50 points.
  • Kare is evaluated as the sum of four dice with the same value.
  • Choice – the sum of the numerical values is calculated.

After each throw, analyze which numerical values are advantageous for making poker combinations and should be left, and which are better to throw again. Because after every third throw it is mandatory to choose the scoring category.

The main advantage of playing Yacht Dice online is in the clarity and convenience. You can imagine how the real game looks like, understand the strategy and immediately start playing on your own.

So, your career as a virtual player in Yahtzee is at the very beginning. It’s time to get started! And if you liked this free online game Yacht Dice, we recommend you to play Mafia Poker on the site OllGames, also for free and with pleasure. We wish you good luck!

Yahtzee Online game info

Yahtzee Online is one of the most popular dice games worldwide. The goal of this multiplayer game is to accumulate the highest amount of points by making various combinations using five dice.

Start playing this board game by choosing to play alone or against one to three AI opponents.

During each round, players take turns in rolling the dice a maximum of three times. At the end of the round (or whenever you feel as though you have achieved the best dice combination for that round), the player chooses one of 13 scoring categories, but each category can only be selected once per game per player. The game ends once every player has taken 13 rounds, and so players will have a score for each category, depending on which round they selected it.

Each category has different rules and how the five dice match with these rules will determine the score the player receives for that particular round. Our version will give an indication of how many points you can expect to receive for each category and you can use this to help make your selection.

To help you score higher, players can choose to lock their dice rolls during the round. Locked dice will not roll for the remaining round, but players can unlock these between rolls if they change their minds.

The 13 categories are separated into top and bottom scores.

There are six top categories and these are calculated by totalling the dice with the corresponding number shown. The categories are as follows:

  • Ones: Sum of dices with number 1
  • Twos: Sum of dices with number 2
  • Threes: Sum of dices with number 3
  • Fours: Sum of dices with number 4
  • Fives: Sum of dices with number 5
  • Sixes: Sum of dices with number 6

For example, if a player ends their turn with two dice showing the number 4, they will receive 8 points if they select the category Fours for that round.

Bottom Scores

The remaining categories are called bottom categories and are related to poker. The rules for these are as follows:

  • Three of a Kind: When at least three dice showing the same value, the score is the sum of all dice.
  • Four of a Kind: When at least four dice showing the same value, the score is the sum of all dice.
  • Full House: When three dice show one number and two show another, the player scores 25 points.
  • Small Straight: When four sequential dice are thrown (1-2-3-4, 2-3-4-5, or 3-4-5-6), the player scores 30 points.
  • Large Straight: When five sequential dice are thrown (1-2-3-4-5 or 2-3-4-5-6), the player scores 40 points.
  • Yahtzee: When all five dice score the same number, the player scores 50 points.
  • Chance: The player scores the total of any combination of dice.

Players scoring a total of 63 or more top points will receive a bonus of 35 points.

When a player already has the Yahtzee score box filled, rolling another Yahtzee gives them a bonus of 100 points. However, if the score box is filled with a 0 they will not get the bonus. Instead, they can use the Full House, Small Straight and Large Straight categories to receive the corresponding number of points even if the dice don't meet the rules.

The Yahtzee game was originally invented by Edwin S. Lowe, and the implementation on our website was developed by CodeThisLab.

Play Yahtzee and test your luck! Look out for strategies to roll the best combinations!

Ratings and Reviews

Needs a couple things though....

I love the game but it needs 2 things...and a minor issue. ...Edit: my bad, I didn’t see the “undo” button...however it disappeared so fast I didn’t notice it...it should stay there until you make your next roll... You should be able to click another box if you select the wrong score. If you accidentally hit a score for sixes when you meant to press an entry in the fives, it won’t let you deselect the six and place the score in the five box. You’re out of luck if your fat fingers hit the wrong selection. Secondly, and similar, if you accidentally select a score after 2 rolls, it won’t let you cancel that selection and go back to make a third roll. You’re forced to accept that score and move on. I was playing triples, had 2 scores to fill and the game crashed. Just blinked out and went to the home screen. Running ios11 on iPhone 7 Plus phone. Went back to the app and it was like the game never occurred. Aggravating...all that time wasted. Can the game save progress if the app crashes?
OMG! I absolutely love the newest version of this game! Thanks so much for the update. Everything is much bigger and easier to see now, and I love the new backgrounds and different colored dice you can choose from! I highly recommend this game for everyone 😀😀

Request for future enhancement

Could we get a Total Score displayed on the “Triple Y” screen? Thanks.

How to Play Yacht Dice Game

The complete rules for the dice game yacht

Erik Arneson is a highly respected board game expert, sharing his 20 years of knowledge on gaming strategies. He's the author of the book, "17 Games You Can Play Right Now," has been a featured speaker at the American International Toy Fair, and is the former Vice President of the Strategy Gaming Society.

Yacht is the public domain dice game upon which the published games Yahtzee and Kismet are both based. Here's how to play.

The Basics of Yacht

1 or more players. Best with 2 to 5 players.

5 six-sided dice , along with pencil and paper to keep score.

To score more points than your opponents by rolling certain combinations of numbers.

Create a score sheet with 12 rows and a column for each player. Label the rows as follows:

  • Large Straight
  • Small Straight
  • Four of a Kind
  • Player's Choice

Definitions

  • Yacht: Five of the same number (e.g. 4-4-4-4-4).
  • Large Straight: Five in a row starting with 6 (i.e. 6-5-4-3-2).
  • Small Straight: Five in a row starting with 5 (i.e. 5-4-3-2-1).
  • Four of a Kind: Four of the same number (e.g. 5-4-4-4-4).
  • Full House: Three of one number, two of a different number (e.g. 4-4-4-1-1).
  • Player's Choice: Any combination of dice.
  • Sixes: Only sixes count for scoring.
  • Fives: Only fives count for scoring.
  • Fours: Only fours count for scoring.
  • Threes: Only threes count for scoring.
  • Twos: Only twos count for scoring.
  • Ones: Only ones count for scoring.

How to Play

A turn starts with a player rolling all five dice. The player may then set aside any number of dice, rerolling the others, or he may stop rolling and proceed to scoring. It is legal for a player to reroll all five dice. It is also legal to reroll dice previously set aside.

On each turn, a player has a maximum of three rolls. After a third roll, the player must stop rolling and proceed to scoring.

Each player will have 12 turns during the game. After each turn, the player must enter a score in one of the rows on the score sheet.

Example: Ana rolls a 1-2-2-4-6. For her second roll, she decides to keep the 2s and reroll the other three dice. She rolls 4-4-6, so she now has 2-2-4-4-6. She has already scored a Full House, so for her third roll, she decides to keep the 4s and reroll the other three dice. She rolls 1-4-4 and now has 1-4-4-4-4. She decides to score for Four of a Kind.

It is likely that a player will make a roll that does not qualify to earn points in any of the remaining categories. In this case, the player must mark a "0" in one of the available categories.

Yacht Scoring and Values

  • Yacht: 50 points. (It does not matter what numbers are on the dice.)
  • Large Straight: 30 points.
  • Small Straight: 30 points.
  • Four of a Kind: Up to 30 points. (Add the point values on all five dice, so 4-4-4-4-1 would score 17 points. It is legal to use five of a kind for this category, so 6-6-6-6-6 would score 30 points.)
  • Full House: Up to 28 points. (Add the point values on all five dice, so 3-3-3-6-6 would score 21 points. To earn points for a full house, the three of a kind must be different than the pair.)
  • Player's Choice: Up to 30 points. (This serves as a "wild card." Simply add the point values on all five dice.)
  • Sixes: Up to 30 points. (Add the point values of all sixes rolled.)
  • Fives: Up to 25 points. (Add the point values of all fives rolled.)
  • Fours: Up to 20 points. (Add the point values of all fours rolled.)
  • Threes: Up to 15 points. (Add the point values of all threes rolled.)
  • Twos: Up to 10 points. (Add the point values of all twos rolled.)
  • Ones: Up to 5 points. (Add the point values of all ones rolled.)

Winning Yacht

After every player has scored in each category, the players each total their scores. The player with the highest score wins.

Yacht (Dice Game)

Try to score the highest amount you can.

You can roll the dice up to three times (and can hold dice by clicking on them).

After any Roll (1, 2 or 3) choose a category to place the total. Choose Wisely! You must choose a category by the third roll, even if it is a 0 score.

There are many games like this, such as Yot , Generala , Cheerio , and the much later commercially available Yahtzee (trademarked by Hasbro).

If you are looking for a game requiring little skill and a good deal of luck, then this may be the game for you. Yacht is a very simple game which uses nothing more than 5 dice, a cup to shake them in, and a score sheet. Despite its simplicity, the “high” of getting spectacular rolls of the dice is palpable. The skill of the game comes entirely in the form of decision making. The decisions one must make involve taking calculated risks, and knowing how to score your rolls.

Number of Players

As few as 2 and as many as you like.

5 six-sided dice (with optional dice cup), 1 specially prepared score sheet per player.

Download a score sheet. (If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader, download it for free here .)

Each player rolls to determine who plays first (high roll wins), and play proceeds to the left. A player starts their turn by first rolling all 5 dice. They are allowed up to 2 more rolls (for a maximum of 3 rolls per turn). Each time a player rolls, they may choose to hold (or set aside) as many of the dice as they wish, and re-roll the remaining dice in an attempt to achieve certain goals as outlined by the score sheet. At any time during a players turn, they may stop rolling and use what is showing on all 5 dice to fill in a spot on their score sheet.

Once a spot has been filled in on the score sheet, it can not be changed.

Score Sheet

Each player has their own individual sheet prepared with a series of categories divided into two sections (an “upper” and a “lower”). Each category represents a specific combination of dice, and should have a space next to it to fill in the score for that category. The categories are:

Upper Section

  • Upper Section Bonus (35 pts. If upper section total = 63 or higher)

Lower Section

  • 3 of a kind (total of all 5 dice)
  • 4 of a kind (total of all 5 dice)
  • Full house (25 points)
  • Small straight (30 points)
  • Large straight (40 points)
  • Yacht (50 pts.)
  • Chance (total of all 5 dice)
  • Bonus for additional Yachts (100 pts. per additional Yacht)

There should also be room at the bottom of the sheet to fill in the totals for both sections and add them together for a final total. At the end of a players turn, the player MUST write down a score next to one of the categories. The player may choose to fill in any category that has not been previously filled in (in either section), but their final combination of dice must meet the requirements for whatever category they select (other wise, they must fill in a 0 for that category).

For the upper section, each category simply represents the specific numbers rolled on the dice. To take a score in the upper section, merely write down the total of all numbers you rolled that correspond to the specific category. For example, if you roll three 1s, a 2, and a 4, you may total the 1s for a score of “3” in the 1s category (for the sake of argument, you could also take a score of “2” in 2s, or “9” in Three of a Kind, etc). The upper section bonus of 35 points is achieved if the combined total of all numbers scored in the upper section equal 63 points or more. A good thing to keep in mind when trying for this bonus is that scoring exactly 3 of each number (i.e. three 1s, three 2s, etc.), gives you exactly 63 points.

For the lower section, the roll requirements are more specific. For 3 of a kind, and 4 of a kind you must obviously have either 3 of one number or 4 of one number showing on the dice. If you have met this requirement, you may total ALL numbers on the dice and write the total in the appropriate category. For “chance,” there is no specific requirement to meet; you merely total all the dice. All other lower section categories have specific point values assigned to them. You may write down the point value for each of these categories upon achieving their roll requirements. Those requirements are:

  • Full house – dice show 3 of one number and 2 of another number (25 points)
  • Small straight – 4 of the 5 dice are in sequence (example: 1, 3, 4, 5, 6). (30 points)
  • Large straight – all 5 dice are in sequence (example: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5). (40 points)
  • Yacht – all 5 dice show the same number (50 points)

You will notice while playing, that certain rolls can be taken in a variety of categories (for example a roll of 4, 4, 4, 6, 6, can be scored as 4’s, 6’s, 3 of a kind, Full house, or Chance…or, you can take a “0” anywhere else). In these situations, it is up to you to decide where to write down a score. In the event that your final roll of the dice on your turn produces a roll that does not meet ANY requirements on the score sheet, then a score of “0” must be taken in the open category of your choosing.

Bonus Yachts

If you have already filled in the yacht category (with either 50 points or zero), and you roll a yacht…that yacht may be used as a “wildcard” anywhere else on the sheet (for example: it may be used as a full house, small straight, etc.). Also, if you have already scored 50 points in the yacht category, each additional yacht rolled is worth a bonus of 100 points (in addition to whatever the subsequent yachts are scored as).

When every category on every player’s score sheet has been filled in, the game is over. Each player then totals all of the values from each and every category on the sheet (remembering to include any bonuses). The player with the highest total score is the winner.
