• Food and Drinks – With our commercial-size kitchen,  you can hire a caterer and enjoy professionally-prepared dishes. Or, you can throw some snags on the BBQ and chat as you share a casual lunch together.  We have all the platters, plates and cutlery you could possibly require so there is no need to bring any plastic plates or utensils onboard during your luxury boat hire. 
• Time of Day – Do you enjoy the sunset and the stars or want a warm day for swimming and sun-bathing on the bow of the MV Baroness? You may choose to enjoy the sunset with bubbly and light snacks to watch the lights of  Brisbane City and sneak a peek inside the waterfront mansions as you cruise the river under the stars.  The MV Baroness is well-lit for socialising under the stars with twinkling bistro lights on the Bow and Back Deck.   
•  Swimming – Only on a day trip to Moreton Bay can swimming be permitted. The size of the MV Baroness makes it difficult to anchor too close to land so swimmers must be proficient.   The MV Baroness has a swim mat onboard and range of floatation toys for guests to enjoy.  There is also a HUGE water Trampoline available.  Ask our booking agent Janine about it.

Curlew Escape, is a large and luxurious  Bavaria Cruiser 45 luxury designed by BMW DesignWorks USA and architected by legendary naval architect Bruce Farr. 

Curlew Escape is very roomy with an overall length of 14.27 m (45‘) and a beam of 4.35 metres (14 feet). The upper deck has a large bench seating area in the cockpit, with full shade, plus an area to sunbake up towards the bow.

Curlew Escape is a Cruiser Racer. While extraordinarily comfortable due to her wide beam and high freeboard, she is also quick through the water and easy helm with her responsive dual rudders.

How much does a private yacht charter cost?

It only depends on the private yacht charter duration in hours. For example, we do from 2 hours to 10 hours for day charters. It does not matter how many guests you bring with you. 

What is a private yacht charter?

A private yacht charter is where you hire the whole yacht. Only the people you invite as guests are onboard with you, along with the crew.

How long does a private yacht charter take?

It depends on which cruise you select. We do from 2 hours to 10 hours and we do overnight and multi-day cruises.

How many people can I have on the private yacht charter?

You can have up to 12 people. The yacht is roomy and easily takes 12. We also do much smaller sizes with sometimes couples and smaller groups.

What if we have bad weather?

While South East Queensland enjoys great year-round weather we do have the occasional rainy day. We will happily reschedule your sailing day to avoid rain and bad weather.  

Can we do catering on our private yacht charter?

You can BYO or we have catering platters charged on a per person basis.

Can I BYO alcohol on our private yacht charter?

Yes, alcohol is BYO.

Will we be sailing on our private yacht charter?

Yes, we always sail whenever we have wind. 

What if it is too windy on the day of our private yacht charter?

We can adjust the sails in four settings. Reducing sail area reduces the wind force on the yacht. If a strong wind warning is forecast, we will contact you to reschedule.

What if the wind is blowing into our preferred destination on the day of our private yacht charter?

If the wind is blowing into your destination's anchorage at more than 10 knots it will not be possible to do watersports. Therefore we will either suggest an alternate destination or discuss a reschedule with you.

The process from booking to sailing was easy and smooth. The skipper was phenomenal and he knew exactly where to take us for our trip. We had a great time and we were always in safe hands.

Life is made up of moments that are truly hard to forget! My partner provided me with one of the best birthday presents anyone could ever ask for. I was under the impression we would be staying in an air bnb but when we arrived at a luxurious property and the gate drew back, my surprise took a turn and I quickly realised this was not the place I would be staying. The walkway down to the boat made me very giddy indeed as this was not something you experience every day. We were met by Grant and Carolyn all dressed in boating regalia and the tone was quickly set by their wonderful greeting and eagerness to provide a first-class service. This tone didn’t drop an iota throughout the trip. Every single detail was meticulously planned and I felt like I was royalty for the weekend. The Yacht itself was decadent and opulent beyond what thoughts I could muster. My partner and I did not have to worry about anything at all on the yacht as we were waited on hand and foot by these wonderful people. I have worked in hospitality for the majority of my life and I believe my standards have always been high…..these guys blew it out of the water…..and then some. You have the choice to do exactly as you please and they facilitate all that you require. We got to jump from the top of the boat and go swimming, we visited an idyllic isolated island and had a champagne picnic and we were treated to one of the best meals I have ever had and Grant and Carolyn had just themselves to organise such a ridiculously mouth watering meal. Such was the decency and salt of the earth nature of these guys that we asked them to join us for a few drinks in the evening and we had an absolute blast with them. Top shelf spirits and wines were all part of the package and you really did feel like you would never get an experience like this ever again. I can’t speak highly enough of what this trip meant to us and given the opportunity; we will be embarking on such a voyage in the near future. This trip would not have even been close to what it was without the decency, generosity and kindness that the hosts provided all the way through.

We had an excellent trip with Carlo who took me and wife around Sydney Harbour and Rose Bay for our wedding anniversary. He helped cook our food and made the day special for us. The boat was clean and had all the necessarily facilities, including a lilypad and a stand up paddle-board to use

Cairns' worst floods on record spark debate about future of city's flood-prone suburbs

Three months on from Cairns' worst floods in recorded history , Donna Jardine and her neighbours still find themselves living on an "island" on the city's northern beaches.

The sheer deluge of water down the Barron River on December 17 tore through a beachfront street, isolating dozens of residents as others desperately pleaded for help.

"When we realised we couldn't get to people because [the road had gone], that's where the panic set in," Ms Jardine, a Holloways Beach resident, said.

The flooding and heavy rain that day damaged nearly 1,000 homes across the Cairns local government area, according to figures from the Queensland Reconstruction Authority.

Much of the damage in Cairns centred on suburbs north of the city — Machans Beach and Holloways Beach — near where the Barron River meets the sea.

Bigger floods 'will happen'

The scale of the devastation sparked debate during this month's local government election campaign — and continues to in the lead up to the October state election — about the future of the low-lying beachside suburbs.

People began settling in the area during the 1920s but there was a sharp rise in residential development in the 1960s and 70s.

The median house price is about $540,000.

Former Shire of Mulgrave councillor Ross Parisi said land on the beachfront was very expensive but the cheapest land available on the northern beaches was the Barron River delta because it was flood-bound.

He is one of many who believe the council and state government should stop approving any development on the Barron River flood plain, arguing newer construction and earthworks have exacerbated the risk residents face.

Geo scientist Jonathan Nott, who specialises in natural hazards, said he had been warning about Cairns's vulnerability to catastrophic disasters for decades.

The James Cook University academic said while December's flood was the largest since accurate records in Cairns began, "it wasn't that big in terms of what we could get".

Professor Nott said geological evidence pointed to at least one flood at an unknown time in the past that was at least double the size of what happened in December 2023.

"They can occur, they have occurred, and presumably they will again," he said.

Driving up premiums

Professor Nott said the increasing monetary value of homes and other structures in the path of potential floods had consequences, even for people who lived in safer suburbs, because it affected insurers' abilities to cover losses, therefore driving up premiums.

Like many affected by December's floods, Holloways Beach resident Danny O'Shane, 80, had already dropped his insurance cover as it became unaffordable.

"About two years ago I stopped paying it, and when I stopped, we got the flood," the Kuku Yalanji man said.

"I don't feel sorry for myself. I think of a lot of other people who are in the same boat, you know."

Professor Nott said councils and governments might find future natural disasters more expensive if they did not become more restrictive about development in natural disaster-prone areas.

He said authorities had often been "willing to take the risk" of dealing with floods "every 40 or 50 years" in order to satisfy housing demand.

"There will be litigation occurring in the courts because people will say, 'You allowed me to build here. You really didn't warn me how dangerous it was'," Professor Nott said.

Council's $1.8m 'defence' bill

One new structure set to be built in the northern beaches flood zone is a $25.5-million bridge, due to replace the causeway that leads to the now semi-isolated part of Holloways Beach where Ms Jardine lives.

She said she had previously been unaware of the risk of the road collapsing.

Representatives of a handful of northern beaches community groups recently met Queensland Disaster Recovery Minister Nikki Boyd, pleading for action to mitigate the flood risk.

Some decisions will also fall to the newly elected members of the Cairns Regional Council.

"It's going to be difficult for council to try and wind [development] back," said Machans Beach resident Deryck Thompson.

"At the very least, there should be a moratorium."

Cairns Regional Council chief executive Mica Martin said it had already spent $1.8 million over the past five years defending decisions to refuse development applications in flood-prone areas.

She said development proposals were subject to "rigorous assessment" based on modelling to ensure resilience against one-in-100-year floods.

Flood mapping for the Barron River was most recently updated in 2017 and was due to be updated again with modelling from the December event.

The state development code and Cairns planning scheme contain construction standards for flood-prone areas that are meant to stop developments from worsening flooding for neighbouring properties.

"Many houses recently impacted by flooding were constructed before these requirements were in place," Ms Martin said.

No money yet for retrofits, buybacks

With potential storm surges posing a much greater risk to the Far North Queensland coast than riverine flooding, Professor Nott said Tropical Cyclone Jasper should be treated as a warning.

He pointed to the Sunshine Coast as a region that had done a better job at restricting development along high-risk parts of its coastline compared to the rest of the state.

The Queensland government has not yet offered Far North residents grants to raise or retrofit their homes to be more flood-resistant following Tropical Cyclone Jasper.

Craig Crawford, a government MP whose electorate of Barron River includes the entire delta, believes there should be a scheme like the one in the state's south-east after the 2021 and 2022 floods, which included voluntary buybacks .

Mr Crawford expected the number of properties needing to be raised, upgraded or bought back would be small, but with benefits for many.

"It means that everyone gets lower risk assigned to the area from the insurers," he said.
