• Trina, Thanks for checking in - I wanted to wait until I returned from the trip to let you know my comments. I will offer my comments below regarding the trip and crew, mainly as constructive input for you on future trips. Martin and Cari-Mari did a great job of attending to our needs and making sure we had what we needed - mostly. Their personalities are well suited for being a crew and they are very easy going. They quickly adjusted their "preferences" to accommodate our desires and needs (such as using the air conditioning in the evening). However, the one issue (while not a big deal - did create some lost time and angst). On ALL past charters I have been on someone from the crew either joined us when we went ashore or accompanied us when we snorkeled - either in the tender alongside of us or actually in the water helping locate fish or other interesting things to see.We have been on numerous charters and we both recognized the lack of service. I will admit - that we are both spoiled and are used to over the top service, so the problem could lie with us. All in all - a very successful trip. Hope this little bit of critique may help.Thanks for checking in.

• Hi Sally, The trip was simply fantastic, start to finish!  I can't say enough about how well we were taken care of by Ben and Elizabeth.  They were lovely hosts and provided top notch food, drinks and service!  The boat was beautiful, clean and very well equipped.  Ben gave us daily suggestions on where to go and what and to do and they were always spot on.  And the food, OMG it was like eating every meal in a 5 star restaurant - healthy, delicious and something different every night.  Elizabeth was superb!  The weather was also perfect, though I hesitate to give the crew full credit for that. In short, we feel we really lucked out with the selection of the Sea Anemone as it would be impossible to believe a better choice could have been made.  This boat and crew are the best! • Amanda, We loved the trip. Mischa and Lenny were a great crew, the perfect pair. Loved the Ohana, fantastic boat for 6 people. Food was fabulous. Overall satisfaction was a 10 on a scale of 1-10, we don't have any suggestions on how it could have been better. Hope to travel with them again. The diving worked out very well, rendezvous diving was fine. Given the amount of diving we wanted to do, 3 days, we did not need tanks etc. on board. Certification process for two of our group was just fine. Blue Water Divers (first 2 days) were better than Jost Van Dyke dives. But that's really just about dive sites. • Hi Martha, Amazing!!   We have been to the BVI’s countless times, but never like this.  The Lady Sharon Gale is a very well kept motor yacht and the perfect size for our group.  The scenery in the BVI’s is always beautiful.  What really separated this trip from many others was the crew.   Captain Mike, Maria, Ian, Milan and Lydia are the BEST at what they do.  They love their roles and people too.  We wanted to take them all to Atlanta with us as we friended each of them.   Cannot say enough good about this whole experience and we will be back on the Lady Sharon Gale again!!! • Dear Martha, Happy New Year to you too! Everything  went OK, except that I got sick the day we left (a strong winter flu) and , as I recovered, my wife fell sick too. Bad luck!  As to the rest we have been pretty happy with the boat (which is OK for 4 guests, I doubt it for more),  except for the navigation plotter in the cockpit which was not working. Excellent was the skipper: even if he was new to the boat and to the area, he proved very effective with some repairs and with planning the itinerary. He is a really nice guy and a good company. • Amanda, We could use those "warm' regards - it was -1 when we got home last night!  Our holiday on McGregor exceeded our expectations; which says a lot considering how excited we were for this vacation!  The McGregor was beautiful - so lovely and well maintained.  The pictures of the interior of the boat didn't do justice to the gorgeous wood! We had a blast and Tim did a great job of helping us to set an itinerary each day.  The girls loved diving with Tim and snorkeling was definitely everyone's favorite!  Tim and Julie both went above and beyond and made us feel really special. Julie's food was out of this world!  She did a great job of serving meals that everyone loved - and they were healthy!!  As a family with 2 in college (and full-time jobs during the summer) and 1 busy in high school we really don't share meals very often.  Meal time was my favorite time - we enjoyed delicious food that everyone loved and we ate together (AND I didn't have to cook!). At the end of our stay Tim asked us if we had any suggestions.  We thought hard about it and we honestly couldn't think of a single thing that would have made our trip more special (well, Libby did say she couldn't get enough of Julie's bread:).  My only frustration was my own fault... I'm ashamed to say I over packed.  If only I stuck to your packing list!! Thank you once again for all your help.  We look forward to working with you again as well! • Hi Amanda, The charter was an amazing experience.  The perfect celebration for a 60th B-day.  Naom and Dalit were fantastic.  I don't think it would be possible for them to provide a better experience.  They were kind, patient, engaging, fun, concerned, thorough, and accommodating, I'm running out of superlatives! • Amanda, Thanks for your message. We had a AMAZING trip. Donald and Audrey made us feel completely welcomed back! We all as a group really connected with Kyle last year and didn't think anyone could surpass him. Our group all agreed that Caitlyn did a great job! She is very sweet, hard working and has such a way about her. Especially for us being her 4 charter. We can be a handful!! Audrey's culinary skills can not be beat! I have been on the treadmill since my return! We all decided the weight gain was worth it for a week of her cooking! The presentation never fails to impress! I think a few of our friends on the trip are fussy eaters, and all they do is rave!! Every morning when I came up for my coffee Audrey was in the kitchen with a big "Good Morning" welcome for me.  What a way to start my day!

Your Guide to a BVI Yacht Charter

Weather on a BVI Yacht Charter. On a BVI yacht charter, the weather is consistent throughout the year with the average temperature between December and April is a high of 28c (83f) and an average low of 24c (75f), between May and November, the average high is 31c (88f) and the average low is 27c (80f).

Hurricane Season. Between June and November is considered hurricane season with an increased likelihood of rain chances and even hurricanes. Hurricanes historically commonly appear in September. But throughout this time of year, the weather and wind can be unsettled varying from day to day. While you can take a BVI yacht charter within this time, considerations should be taken and knowledge of changes in wind patterns and settle locations.

The winter months (between November and January) provide a great sailing break with warm weather and a north-east wind at approximately 15 to 20 knots. During the Christmas period winds can reach between 25 and 30 knots, calming back down in February in an east direction. By the beginning of June, the winds change to a south-east direction at 10 – 15 knots. September and October produce the calmest conditions but the weather can be unpredictable. By November the wind has settled once again to 15-20 knots before the cycle starts again. On A BVI charter, the seas generally have between 3 and 4ft waves.

Easy Navigation.  The small tidal range (12in/ 30cm) and the sheltered waters mean that even novice sailors can enjoy island hopping from Tortola on a BVI yacht charter, although many more experienced sailors also travel to the islands each year to relax and lazily crisscross the Sir Francis Drake Channel. Passages between the islands can take as little as half an hour and rarely more than three hours.

What is the best time to go on a BVI yacht charter? Any time of year is a great time to go on a BVI yacht charter, depending on the individual’s availability. The high season takes place over the winter months from December to March. Low season is between April and June with fewer crowds and in April they have the famous BVI Spring Regatta. • Trellis Bay – Aragorn’s Studio artisan market and Trellis Bay Market are great places to explore. Trellis Bay Full Moon parties (for the party goers), White Bay and Guana Island are great anchorages. Monkey Point is a great snorkeling location.
• Great Harbour – Rural island with less than 200 residence, Jost Van Dyke is worth a visit. Great Harbour is a great overnight anchorage spot. Foxy’s Tamarind Bar & Restaurant, Soggy Dollar Bar, Hendo’s Hideout, Gertrude’s, Seddy’s One Love, and Corsair’s are amazing restaurants and bars.
• The Bight/Norman Island – Hilly and beautiful island, Pirate’s Bight Restaurant and Willy T for amazing food and The Indians and The Caves for snorkeling and anchorages.
• Callwood Distillery – Mr. Callwood’s rum distillery.
• Cane Garden Bay – Beautiful beaches with white sand and water sports options.
• Tortola – Largest island and Road Town, with shops and things to see and do.

BVI YACHT CHARTER FAQ'S

• Can I fly into the BVI for my charter? While flights in and out of St. Thomas remain the most popular pick, typically due to preferred routes, flight times, and pricing, our other suggested option is to take a commercial flight in and out of San Juan, Puerto Rico with a connecting flight to the BVI and back. We will assist with connecting flight recommendations or with private charter flight reservations either from Puerto Rico to the BVI and back or from St. Thomas to the BVI and back.
• What’s the best way to get to the BVI and back from St. Thomas? Many of our clients take private water taxis from St. Thomas to the BVI and back for their charters. While more expensive than a commercial ferry, this option offers a faster and far more seamless, luxury experience. Once your flights are confirmed, we’ll be happy to assist with water taxi reservations.
• If I fly into St. Thomas, can my charter start and end there? While the crewed fleet was able to offer St. Thomas ports and a BVI itinerary through July 2023, crewed charters that occur in the BVI after October 2023 will require a BVI pick-up and drop-off.

Royal Cape 57ft - 2020

Barefeet retreat, yacht description.

Barefeet Retreat is a new 2020 model from the South African company Royal Cape. These yachts are well known for their light and airy interiors and really great headroom throughout.

Layout is 5 queen cabins – great for families and 8 adult guests would be perfect. All the cabins have ensuite bathrooms with separate shower stalls. Gorgeous light wood is used throughout the interior and, combined with muted grey upholstery, the whole effect is one of comfort and style.

The salon and galley are integral and large patio glass doors open so this area melds easily into the cockpit. Upstairs there is a flybridge seating area, great for enjoying sunsets.

Our personal opinion

Why book Barefeet Retreat – FLEXIBILITY – Barefeet Retreat can take 10 people, but also is a larger catamaran that is competitively priced for just four guests. There is a really good selection of water toys along with a roomy outside area. This 2020 boat is so pristine and along with a great crew who go above and beyond ensuring their guests have an amazing time, completes this great package.

It was an amazing vacation. Jenn and Bree were great to sail with and took us to so many islands. Loved their suggestions on islands and things to do. The food on the yacht was five star. The snorkeling and paddle boarding and exploring all the beaches where are favorite. Yacht was very clean. Cabins were comfortable. There was enough areas with shade. The food was amazing. Such a variety. The food was 5 star. I felt it was very healthy also beautiful presentation. They did have some great signature drinks. Jenn and Bree were great. Professional but also so pleasant and friendly. Very knowledgeable and had great suggestions. Would love to sail with them again.

“Creating lifelong memories is a special treasure that so many of us take for granted until it is too late. However, the week we spent on Barefeet Retreat with Captain Jenn and Breezy Cooking will always hold a special place in our hearts and our entire group is excited to be back on the boat with them again in the future. When a trip ends with genuine hugs and tears, that sums up that not only did everyone very much enjoy themselves, but we all made a special lifelong bond that cannot be forgotten. First, Breezy Cooking’s cuisine and special beverages would rival any fine restaurant, however the hospitality from Jenn and Bree make the trip even more special. Let me tell you, these two ladies worked hard the entire trip to make everything perfect for us, but they always were enjoying themselves, had smiles on their faces and had this contagious positive view on life that continues to resonate with us. The boat’s layout was perfect, the beds were comfortable, everything was immaculate and clean and with scenic background accompanied with our new found family in Jenn and Bree made for a perfect trip that we will never forget and hope to duplicate soon. “

Bree and Jen are like the dynamic duo. Their personalities and dedication to a great charter, I imagine will be hard to find again. The food was amazing and Bree got it right every meal. Jenn was not only an awesome captain, but a great Scuba instructor as well. From the moment we stepped on the Yacht, the two of them really made us feel at home, comfortable, relaxed and in a mindset to have a great time. We only hope to bring our children back with us next time. p.s They found us front row mat position for “After Irma Band”……try that StubHub!

Our stay was beyond comfortable because Captain Jenn and Chef Bree exceeded all our expectations and truly brought our preferences to life! With children on board, we were amazed at the endless activities and constant attention that they provided to help us feel at home. Captain Jenn amazed us with her skill and knowledge, but also was warm and patient with our gang. And, Chef Bree is a ray of sunshine! She prepared five star meals for every seating and amazed us with daily cocktails of the day and delicious desserts! The crew duo serving Barefeet Retreat are so warm and caring that you’ll leave with 2 new family members! And, the boat was kept immaculate and stocked with water toys. We are ready to book again!

“You have arrived, do yourself a favor and stop searching now, you will not find a better combination of craft and crew than this. Sailing aboard Barefeet Retreat with Captain Jenn & Chef Abrye is as good as it gets. We truly cannot think of a single thing that we would have changed during the entire week we spent. This newer yacht is very roomy, has all the comforts of home, and plenty of covered space for all to enjoy. Jenn & Abrye are intelligent, skilled, and kind, both with great sense’s of humor and delightful wit. What ever your taste buds desire, Chef Abrye can make it happen, every meal was fantastic and full of flavor. I think this lady is the next big thing just waiting to be discovered, so amazingly creative. Captain Jenn is a divemaster, accomplished sailor, knowledgeable hiker, and a confident leader. You just know that you are in good hands with Jenn at the helm. So finish up your To Do List, pack lightly, and get ready to worry about nothing at all, and have one of the most wonderful weeks of your life.”

Because of Bree, our yacht became a home, which is more than any of us every thought was possible in a short week. Per Bree’s request early on in the trip, I’ve wracked my brain to find some constructive feedback related to her efforts. I’ve come up short. Bree commands respect in everything she does and never waivered even for a single moment in her total commitment to our healthy, safety, and happiness. Bree’s level of poise is second to none, and warrants repeated recognition.

Simply amazing! Great cook, such a fun part of our group and a really kind of caring person. Bree was the best!

Amazing, the dishes that she created for us were unbelievable. Catered to our likes, dislikes and food allergies every meal. Also her energy brought the group up each day.

Breezy was incredible, she kept us well fed the entire trip with amazing meals. Going into the trip I expected to have pb&j but was happily surprised by the delicious, inventive meals she came up with. I absolutely loved the risotto with Gorgonzola sauce she made and have already googled a recipe to make at home!

The food was some of the best I’ve ever had. So amazing and great company!

BREEZY!! Couldn’t imagine this trip without her. Her energy and incredible restaurant quality meals continued to leave us picking our jaws off the floor. Food outstanding every time. She also saved my life!

Jenn was a phenomenal skipper, and was a big part of why we booked the route we did and why we requested her. She provided amazing recommendations, remained professional at all times, but was ready to have fun. If I could give her an 11, I would. 100% chance we’ll end up sailing again with Jenn as our skipper.

Rendezvous diving

If your crewed charter yacht does not offer onboard diving then fear not, rendezvous diving can be arranged.

So what is Rendezvous diving?

A local dive company will pick you up direct from your charter yacht at a pre-determined location and take you for a one- or two-tank dive to experience the BVI below the water. This is an excellent option if only a couple of guests wish to dive or can work equally as well if all your group are interested. If your charter yacht offers minimal onboard diving, then rendezvous diving can also work if you wanted to add a few more dives during your charter.

Rendezvous diving is at additional cost, payable locally. The dive company provides all gear.
