How Much Does a Dinghy Cost (With 14 Examples)
Once we bought our first real "overnight" boat, we had a wake-up call when we realized that we weren't done with the spending. If we wanted to go anywhere but a marina, we had to pony up for a dinghy. After spending more than we planned on a lovely sailboat, looking at tenders gave me a minor sticker shock.
So how much does a dinghy cost? You can find a serviceable dinghy for one person to row for as little as a few hundred dollars, but if you want something sized for a few adults or a small family to travel comfortably, expect to spend from $2,000 - $7,000 for a new boat and outboard, though you can spend much more.
That's a pretty big spread and can be a lot of money. Picking the right dinghy for your needs takes some thought and research, but we're got the basics covered for you.
On this page:
The cost of dinghies: 14 examples, types of dinghies, hard bottom dinghy prices, inflatable dinghy prices, what about the outboard, used dinghies & engines.
Here's a list of fourteen dinghy prices as stated by the manufacturers:
BIC Sportyak 213 - $499.00
Walker bay 10 - $1,509, trinka 10 - $3,850, portland pudgy - $2,995, porta-bote 10 - $2,595, whitehall spirit minto 9' dinghy - $6,959, oc tender oc300 - $5,700, goplus 4-person 10ft inflatable dinghy - $429.99, zodiac wave 310 aero - $1,595, achilles lsi-330e - $3,675, achilles lsr-310e - $3,145, ab 10 al lammina - $6,386, highfield classic 310 - $3,260, west marine – rib-310 - $3,099.
An additional outboard engine will typically cost between $1,000 - $3,700.
Below I'll go over the details of each dinghy, and what accounts for the large differences in price.
When we're talking about a "dinghy," we're talking about a tender . This is a support boat to get you and your gear from land to the water and back again. These are working boats that you will use to take your spouse into town for dinner, bring the kids to the beach, carry your groceries back to the boat, and take the dog into shore for a frisk. They can be fun, but at their core, this is a tool more like the family car than a two-seater convertible.
We recommend you start with this overview of various types of dinghies . It's a guide to the basic pros and cons of each type of dinghy and talks about some elements of materials, construction, and styles.
Very few boats come with a single price and configuration. Most have optional extras and major upgrades. This guide will deal with the major options only, things like sailing kits and PVC vs. Hypalon construction with inflatables. Every vendor will accessorize beyond that, but the base boat configurations will help you get a sense of the market.
All prices will be U.S. Dollars at the manufacturer's retail price unless otherwise indicated, and do not include shipment, delivery or sale pricing. Depending on where in the world you live, you may find a better deal on a boat if it's locally built, and you may get better prices with seasonal sales or boat show promotions.
Basic construction materials are plastic, fiberglass, aluminum, and wood. Wood is harder to come by in new boats. Hard dinghies cover a broad spectrum of boats, from simple, molded-plastic one or two-person rowboats, to multi-functional sailing/rowing/motoring dinghies, which may serve as life rafts. Most have numerous options and upgrades at purchase.
Build quality, styling, materials, and function all affect price. Many hard dinghies go a step beyond a simple workboat and are beautifully crafted vessels intended to complement the looks of the larger boat. For some, the beauty and style of a hard dinghy are as important as what it can do. While inflatables have little to offer for a positive aesthetic, some hard dinghies are gorgeous little boats in their own right. Those usually do not come cheap.
Because of the range of capabilities of hard dinghies in similar sizes, we've presented a representative sampling of a few of the top styles and types of hard dinghies, with an emphasis on carrying four passengers, where possible. Most of these boats have multiple sizes and models which may be more suitable, and the price will vary up or down with the size.
Prices are for the base boat and major options, which may change the class or capabilities of the boat. Every vendor has many smaller options and upgrades available.

"Inflatable" covers a broad range of boats, and the low end includes a number of "boats" that are little more than pool toys with delusions of safety. Anything which doesn't have multiple layers of rugged cloth, fixed oarlocks, multiple air tubes, and a little weight to it should stay in the back yard.
There are a few safer low-cost inflatables, but you can't expect the same level of quality and durability you'd get from a more expensive, better-built boat. That doesn't mean they aren't options for the budget or space conscious, but know what you're getting for your money. A more expensive inflatable like an AB, Highfield or Zodiac can last a decade or more with care. A boat coming in at 1/10th the cost may only be good for a couple of seasons and will take less abuse.
Most boat vendors have several product lines, and many of the boats are available in multiple configurations, like a choice of air floor, hard floor, roll-up floor, and so on. We're only picking one or two boats from each class to give a sample, but please explore the vendor web sites for more options.
In general, soft bottom boats aren't designed for high-speed planing but are lighter and more easily stowed. Rigid inflatable boats (RIBs) can take higher horsepower engines and are designed to plane, but they are heavier and do not break down for storage.
For consistency, this guide will be price out boats in the ten-foot (3.1 meter) range, a typical size for a family of four. Smaller and larger models are available from most makers and will be priced accordingly.
Soft Bottom Dinghies
PVC, very low-cost dinghy
This is included as an example of a very low-cost dinghy that is a step up from the "pool toy" products. The construction on a boat like this is light - PVC seams will be glued, not welded, and hardware may be lightly attached. They may not stand up to abuse or long use. Check as many reviews as you can before buying this or similar boats. They can be budget entry point to get you on the water now.
- Overall Size: 10' x 4.1' beam
- Material: PVC, wood and aluminum
- Max Load: 900 lbs (4 adults)
- Air Chambers: 3
- Max Horsepower: 10 HP
PVC Dinghy available with air floor ($1,595), aluminum floor ($1,595), or compact RIB ($2,295)

Italian dinghy maker AB offers a range of top-quality RIBs, but does not sell soft bottoms or PVC tubes. This is one of their lighter boats. The similar double-hulled fiberglass RIB is forty pounds heavier. This was our family dinghy cruising the world for years; it took a lot of abuse and performed well with a 15HP engine.
- Overall Size: 10'6" x 5'6" beam.
- Max Load: 1,519 lbs (5 adults)
- Net Weight: 128 lbs (bow locker model, 117 lbs without locker)

- Overall Size: 10'2" x 5'8" beam.
- Max Load: 1,213 lbs (5 adults)
- Net Weight: 136 lbs
- Origin: Australia/China

Double Floor Rigid Inflatable Boat Hypalon
West Marine has a wide offering of inflatable boats on offer, sometimes at better prices than major brand boats. They do not manufacture their own inflatables but have worked with companies like Avon and Zodiac (the parent company of Avon) to build house-brand boats for them. It is sometimes difficult to find out who the builder is.
- Max Load: 1,102 lbs (4 adults)
- Net Weight: 130 lbs
If you will not row or sail exclusively, you will need an engine. In North America and much of the world, the market is limited to four-stroke engines. Your options will run from two horsepower, up to as high as twenty-five or even forty horsepower for larger ribs with steering consoles. For the boats in this guide though, you'll rarely use more than a fifteen, though some boats will take a twenty.
Options for outboard include:
- Shaft length, either 15" (short) or 20" (long). Short is standard, but a few boats like the Portland Pudgy prefer the long shaft.
- Manual or electric start. Electric starts are heavier and require a battery and wiring.
- Horsepower, from 2 -15 HP for most applications.
Be careful to pick the right engine for your needs; bigger is not always better. Too big can be dangerous, waste fuel, and is more expensive than you need to spend and heavier than you need to wrestle around.
Rough price ranges for some short shaft four stroke engines are:
- 2-3 HP - $1,000 - $1,200
- 5 HP - $1,700 - $2,200
- 9.8 HP - $2,500 - $3,700
- 15 HP - $3,100 - $4,500
- 20 HP - $3,500 - $4,800
These prices are all for brand new boats and engines. And you will spend a little more on extra accessories, so the numbers can look quite daunting.
If you are looking to save a little money, know there are always used dinghies and engines available for sale. Be careful to ensure that hard dinghy hulls are solid and safe, inflatable tubes stay inflated overnight, and outboards start easily and stay running.
But if the price of a brand new dinghy is too much on top of your new-to-you boat, try Craigslist, the classifieds, and the bulletin boards at the yachts clubs and marinas in your town. You just might find a deal.

2023 Boat of the Year Best Dinghy: Tiwal 3R
- By Dave Reed
- December 16, 2022
Sailing World Magazine’s annual Boat of the Year tests are conducted in Annapolis, Maryland, following the US Sailboat Show. With independent judges exhaustively inspecting the boats on land and putting them through their paces on the water, this year’s fleet of new performance-sailing boats spanned from small dinghies to high-tech bluewater catamarans. Here’s the best of the best from our 2023 Boat of the Year nominees »
The High-Pressure Ripper
- Tiwal 3R 2023 Best Dinghy
- Stated purpose: Recreational sailing, one-design and rally racing
- Crew: One to two
- Praise for: Performance, comfort, portability
- Est. price as sailed: $8,900
The surest way to grow sailing is to make it easy to get on the water with minimal hassle on a boat that is exhilarating to sail—and that’s exactly what the inflatable and powered-up Tiwal 3R does. Thousands of Tiwal fanatics around the world can’t be wrong; they love their zippy little crafts, and the Tiwal community has grown ever larger since its young French innovators launched the first model a decade ago. The Tiwal 3R is the continuing evolution of a great idea—with even better execution. Tiwal boats keep getting better, and this one is its best yet.
The “R” is for Race, and that’s because after two years of playing and adventure racing on the early-edition Tiwal 3s, keener owners started asking for more. But the engineering required to make Tiwal’s high-pressure inflatable hull and aluminum frame take on greater rig and structural loads that had them stumped for nearly two years, says Emmanuel Bertrand. They kept breaking it until they got it right.
At 10 feet and 121 pounds fully rigged, the magic of the Tiwal 3R is its portability, which would explain why the company says it sells so many in urban areas around the world. The sail, hull, blades, five-part composite spar and boom, and aluminum frame pack into two 5-foot duffel bags. To put it all together at whatever water’s edge takes about 30 minutes; it’s mere minutes if the boat is coming off the car top already pumped and assembled.
The PVC hull construction is identical to all other Tiwals, but the design for the 3R is a big improvement, with a more pronounced V-shape, a bit more rocker, and a reinforcement plate on the bottom near the transom, which gives it stiffness and a cleaner exit. “It’s difficult to get a hard corner on inflatables,” Stewart says, “so that’s a great solution to give it a nice sharp edge and a cleaner break so the water isn’t bubbling up over the back.”
When I got my weight in the right spot, the boat just took off. It’s quicker than quick. —Chuck Allen
The gust-responsive rig and big sail, built with North Sails racing cloth, is what takes the boat a big step from the recreational sailor’s Tiwal 3 to the racing sailor’s 3R, Powlison says. “This is the same size sail as a Laser, 77 square feet, which is a lot of power. When you get the vang set right, it does make a big difference. It is an effective control that they got right.”
Powlison’s only desire was to be able to get the sail controls to run farther back on the rack, accepting, however, that this would unnecessarily complicate the setup.
Allen, who’s been a Tiwal fan since the original, is impressed once again. “You definitely get a lot more performance out of this thing,” he says after sailing the boat in 10 to 15 knots and flat water. “I got hit with a puff and was like, dang! This thing’s got some wheels. It’s much faster and stiffer. I’m 170 pounds and was able to stay out on the rack the entire time, even when it got light.”
Stewart’s assessment of the 3R is that it’s built for a slightly more advanced sailor. “This thing is higher tech, with a lot more control lines, so it’s a bit more boat to handle. That being said, I’m a big guy (the manufacturer’s stated maximum load on the wing is 242 pounds), and I was never sitting in water, so it will accommodate a wide range of people.”
Getting the purchase systems for the 4-to-1 cunningham and the two-part vang (all of which are doubled-ended) into the mast collar hardware was an engineering exercise, says creator Marion Excoffon. But the end result is a system of color-coded lines and color-matched Harken blocks that work effectively and smoothly to depower the sail. Once the control systems are assembled, they don’t need to be rerun. When rigging, simply slide the mast into the collar, hook up the mainsheet, attach the rudder, and cast off for a fast and sporty adventure.
“Every time I got a little puff, the boat zipped right along,” Allen says. “The foils are stiff and shaped well, so the boat goes upwind really nicely. The bow was stiff and wasn’t flopping in the chop. But the best part was reaching around in the big puffs, sitting at the back corner of the rack, with the boat just skimming. When I got my weight in the right spot, the boat just took off. It’s quicker than quick.”

A Guide to Dinghy Boats
Are you looking for an affordable boat for your fishing trips or watersports? The dinghy offers you the best options for a low-cost, versatile watercraft. There are several dinghy designs to suit any watersports activity.
Typically, dinghies are the best choice for watersports like skiing and diving. However, some models are good for cruising or light sailing, with options for motors or sails. A dinghy can range in size, but most of them are suitable for carrying two to six people.
Dinghies are available in models suiting use in freshwater or saltwater, with inflatables, solid boats, and more options. Is a dinghy the right choice for your boat? Let’s unpack everything you need to know about these watercraft.
What Is a Dinghy Boat?
A dinghy is a small boat, usually and inflatable, and most models are around five to ten feet long. A dinghy is easy to transport, and it offers versatile utility for fishing and watersports. You also have options for motors, sales, or you can use oars to propel the boat.
Dinghies can feature fiberglass construction, or they may use inflatable pontoons, similar to a pontoon boat. The inflatable models typically feature design and construction with Hypalon or PVC. These polymers provide UV resistance, tough resistance against punctures, and easy repairs.
The sides on inflatables also act as seats, allowing fishing directly from all sides of the boat. Dinghies are not really built for speed; they usually come with low-powered trolling motors with a 3-hp to 5-hp output. However, they are ideal for moving through estuaries and lakes, allowing for silent movement so you don’t disturb the fish.
What are the best beginner sailing dinghies?
If you’re just getting into sailing, there are several dinghy options for enjoying your time out on the water. Whether you want to sail solo or with a friend, there is a boat for you.
Training Sailing Dinghies
These models are easy to master, giving beginners the chance to master the complexities of sailboats. They are simple to operate, safe, and offer you the best option for learning to master sailing techniques.
Doublehanded Sailing Dinghies
These models cater to two passengers for handling the sail and rigging. They are great for learners, allowing them to take an experienced sailor out on the water to learn the ropes.
Singlehanded Sailing Dinghies
These models have a design for one person. Typically, they are smaller boats, and you’ll already have to know how to sail. However, they are easy to master, and spending time out on the water will familiarize you with the aspects of sailboats.
These dinghies feature double or triple hulls. They are typically the best choice for racing, and they offer excellent stability in all water conditions.
Different Types of Dinghy Models
As mentioned, there are several models of dinghies for different watersports activities. Here are the most common options; we categorized them into sailing dinghies and inflatable dinghies.
Sailing Dinghies
A sailing dinghy is a small sailboat with no fixed keel and a shallow draft. These models are ideal for sailing in lagoons, estuaries, and lakes, navigating shallow waters. The sailing dinghy typically features a fiberglass design, with an open-plan seating area and a mast. These boats usually accommodate anywhere from one to five passengers.
High-Performance Dinghies
High-performance sailing dinghies are another sail-based model that’s ideal for racing. They are fast and cut through the water with ease. You get excellent maneuverability on the water with a low-profile design and an open-plan deck with a mast. The Fireball, International 505, and Thistle are a few examples of leading racing and high-performance dinghies.
Cruising Dinghies
A cruising dinghy is another sail-based model that’s a great choice for cruising out in calm ocean conditions or inland water bodies. They are a recreational vessel equipped with sails and rudders, and you have more passenger capacity than the other sailing models. As a result, they are the ideal choice for family’s that enjoy the sailing lifestyle.
Cruiser-Racer Dinghies
These models are hybrids that come with a focus on performance and stability. They have the ability to race or to cruise, providing excellent stability in the water. They are a great choice for someone that wants to start sailing competitively, and they also work for fun recreational sailing days on the lake with the family. The GP14 is an example of a cruiser-racer offering high-performance standards and stable cruising.
Classic Dinghies
These boats had an original design featuring wood finishes using materials like plywood and cedar. However, modern dinghies feature fiberglass construction. The classic dinghy sailboat focuses on versatility over sailing performance. The Minto is a great example of a classic dinghy.
Inflatable Dinghies
Inflatables are gaining in popularity thanks to the affordable price tag and versatility offered by the boat. Inflatables are easy to carry, and some might even fit on the back of a truck. Inflatables have side pontoons, and many of them are suitable for diving activities or spearfishing. These dinghies usually feature low-powered trolling motors; they don’t have a design for speed.
Features and Benefits of Dinghy Boat
Dinghies are versatile and affordable. There are plenty of benefits for choosing this boat beyond just the savings you make over other models.
The dinghy is one of the few boats left that offer a sailing configuration. If you’re into boating on lakes or thinking about sailing competitively, the dinghy is the best choice. Any of the sailing models listed above are a great choice. Pick the boat that offers you the best utility for your sailing needs.
Minimal Noise
Most dinghies are sailing options, so you don’t have to worry about gas fumes from the motor or noise. They offer a serene sailing experience on inland waters. Inflatable models may use a trolling engine for moving through calm, shallow waters when fishing. The low noise and churn produced by the motors won’t scare off the fish. You also have options for poling and oars for moving around without engines.
Trailerable
Dinghies are compact boats with sailing and inflatable models offering you easy trailering. Some of the smaller inflatables can fit in the back of a panel van or on the load bed of your single-cab truck. They offer you easy transport between lakes and estuaries, with a lightweight design that’s easy to launch and trailer.
Options for Inflatables or Fiberglass
As mentioned, the dinghy comes in sailing and inflatable options. Some fiberglass models also feature a wood finish on the deck for an added aesthetic that looks like a classic dinghy.
Ideal as an Excursion Boat for Yachts
Many superyachts use inflatable dinghies allowing the passengers to reach the shore. Yachts can’t enter shallow water, and the dinghy makes the ideal transfer boat for reaching the coast from open water. Most of these models feature low-powered motors.
No Need for Registration
Larger vessels require registration before you can take them out on the water. However, dinghies are small, and they don’t need any registration or licensing before you can take them out on the water. As long as the boat doesn’t have a fixed motor and is less than eight feet in length, you don’t have to worry about doing the paperwork. Regulations differ between California and Florida, so check with your local authorities before taking your boat to the lake or slip.
Lightweight
The dinghy is a lightweight boat. The fiberglass and inflatable models offer you a lightweight watercraft that’s easy to launch and pull from the water. They are also easy to repair, with basic fiberglass or polymer patching.
Easy to Maneuver
The dinghy is a super-maneuverable boat. The sailing models are easy to tack in the wind, allowing for sharp turning radiuses and easy maneuverability on the water.
Complete sailing systems
Most sailing dinghies come with options for sail systems. If you want to learn the art of sailing or teach your kids about sailboats, the dinghy is the ideal starter vessel.
Suitable for use in Shallow Waters
The dinghy usually has a high draft and a shallow keel, allowing for sailing in shallow water, such as lakes. These boats won’t run aground, and the low hull design allows for less friction on the water, increasing speed and performance.
Save on Fuel
Sailing dinghies don’t have motors, so you save on fuel costs for your boating trips. Those inflatable models with trolling motors have low-capacity engines, and they are economical with fuel consumption.
Disadvantages of Dinghy Boat
The dinghy is a great choice for your first boat, especially if you want to tackle the art of sailing. However, they do come with some drawbacks.
Minimal Power and Small Motors
Since most models are sailboats, they rely on the wind for performance. Sure, some models can reach high speeds when the winds are right, but they lack a speed boat’s torque and on-demand power. Even those dinghy models relying on trolling motors don’t move very fast.
Limited Standing Room
The sailing dinghy doesn’t offer you any standing room. Sure, you can stand on the deck, but you’ll have to duck and manage the sail, and that could mean the boat tosses you overboard. The small size of the dinghy also means that you’ll unbalance the vessel if you stand on the deck.
Limited Seating
Dinghies are small boats designed for one to five passengers. Sure, you get bigger models, but these dinghies are more like proper sailboats. The seating may also be somewhat uncomfortable, as most models rely on a cast fiberglass deck with molded seats and no cushions.
No Crossover Function
Most dinghies are for sailing, and they don’t offer you crossover functions for fishing and watersports. It’s impossible to tow a skier, and the sail gets in the way of angling. The inflatable models are okay for fishing in shallow waters or inland water bodies, but the seating setup isn’t comfortable. The low-power trolling motors available for inflatable models don’t reach high speeds, making them unsuitable for watersports.
Limited Storage Space
Most dinghy models, especially sailing types, don’t come with consoles or storage systems. Some inflatables might have storage bins in the bow of the dinghy, but they typically don’t offer much storage space.
Top Dinghy Boat Brands and Models
Intex excursion 5.
The Intex Excursion 5 is a great example of an inflatable dinghy. You can seat up to five people in this model, and it has a rubber design with all the fishing accessories you need to get out on the water and enjoy a few hour’s angling in the lake.
You get four rod-holders, a bench-style seat in the boat’s center, and two inflatable seats.
This model comes with an affordable price tag and oars included with your purchase. There’s also the option of attaching a trolling motor for effortless navigation.
However, the boat is not suitable for standing, so don’t expect to cast far with this model. The boat comes with a three-chambered design and a 1,300-lbs capacity.
The Laser is the best choice for a single-hander sailboat dinghy. This boat is ideal for cruising or competitive racing, and they hold their resale value.
You get options for three rig sizes, the 4.7, Standard, and the Radial model. These boats feature fiberglass design and low hulls for easy navigation through shallow waters.
The RS Vision
This family sailboat makes a fantastic trainer, club racer, or cruising model. This boat can accommodate up to eight sailors, and the new RS Quest model features both trapeze and spinnaker options.
Wrapping Up
Dinghies are the ideal boat for learning how to sail, and they also make inexpensive boats for recreational fishing in inland water or calm ocean conditions.
They are not the most durable boats, and they don’t accommodate many people. However, there are plenty of models to suit your sailing experience or watercraft needs. However, they offer lightweight design, user-friendly operation, and choices for inflatable or fiberglass models.
If you’re looking to learn how to sail, you won’t find a better boat available.

Kelley Blue Book Boats
Is there a blue book for boat values.
It’s natural to wonder, “How much is my boat worth?” or “What should I pay when I buy a boat?” but it’s also important to ask, “Who is providing the information?”.
So let’s establish this up front: There are no Kelley Blue Book® Values for boats. Of course, if you need a value for a passenger vehicle or motorcycle , we can help there.
But where can you turn if you’re looking for boat values since Kelley Blue Book doesn’t offer them?
If you pull up a search engine and type in “boat values,” “Blue Book boat values,” or “boat values KBB,” a lot of sites come up. Many are legitimate but do read reviews. They can give you a general idea of the price of a boat like yours or the boat you might consider adding to your fleet.
But be careful. Not all boat value sites are legitimate. Almost every site out there throws the words “Blue Book” in there to confuse the issue. Some sites cover their pages with phrases like “Boat Blue Book Value” or “KBB Boat Book” to try to attract shoppers and search engines alike. They hope you’ll assume their boat values are genuine Kelley Blue Book boat values. But they’re not.
Because – bottom line – none of those sites is working with Kelley Blue Book. Kelley Blue Book has been providing car values since 1926, but we don’t offer boat values. As a result, many boat owners choose to use a combination of online sources to arrive at a value. But there are other options.
How Can You Get an Accurate Boat Value?
While online sources can give you a general estimate, boat values vary widely because of differences in care, climate, and condition. Has the boat been in storage or dry dock in the winter, or was it used year-round? Has the boat seen most of its miles in saltwater or freshwater? (That sea air can be a corrosive killer!) Plus, equipment and customization can vary a lot from one boat to another. Advanced electronics & navigation and the choice of materials will affect the price or value.
So what should you do? Many people pay the professionals and hire a boat surveyor to appraise it in person. A boat surveyor will consider your boat’s unique construction, condition, and equipment and then inspect your boat stem to stern. To come up with a value, a professional surveyor will analyze the hull and either the rig or the engine (sailboat vs powerboat). The Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS) and the National Association of Marine Surveyors (NAMS) are two great places to find a surveyor. They maintain lists of boat surveyors in your area.
Another thing to consider: If you stick with online sources, their boat values are usually based only on brokers or boat dealers. These sources don’t take into account the significant number of boat sales between private parties. This isn’t surprising since data is hard to come by, verify, and normalize.
Does Kelley Blue Book Have Boat Values?
Kelley Blue Book doesn’t provide values for boats. This also includes boat-related products like outboard motors and trailers.
Why doesn’t Kelley Blue Book offer boat values? Good data is too hard to come by. Getting a large enough sample size to set a boat value with the confidence and accuracy we demand is impossible. We don’t put the name Kelly Blue Book on just any value. We have almost a century of valuation expertise and trust to consider.
Kelley Blue Book only provides vehicle trade-in values, private party values, and Fair Market Range when we can get our hands on enough actual transactions across a wide enough range of the country to ensure we can produce values that are both fair to all parties and reflect the ever-changing market.
Getting a value for a boat isn’t easy, which is why many people choose to work with a professional boat surveyor. In the end, there are online sources that can give you an estimate, but Kelley Blue Book isn’t behind any of them. Good luck.

Average Yacht Prices | 40, 50, 60, 70, 100 feet + Helpful Examples
How much do yachts cost? Let’s look at yacht prices per size.
SELECT SIZE ⇩
Note: We will look at yachts that are a few years old. Very few people buy brand-new yachts as the price comes down a lot after only a few years.
How much is a small yacht? Let’s start at 40 feet length.
40 Foot Yacht Cost
A 40-foot yacht can be found used for around $200,000 and new models can cost as much as a million dollars. There are always lots of used yachts for sale around 40 feet in length, which makes them more attractive to first-time buyers.
Technically, a yacht begins at 23 feet. However, yachts that size will more often be referred to as boats.
A 40-foot yacht is a great option for looking for relative simplicity and plenty of comfort and capability. This size is great for day trips in the Caribbean dedicated to speed boating or simple cruising.
The size remains manageable, but the vessel can be updated with extra living spaces and amenities as desired, with a more affordable price than larger options.
The maintenance prices will remain lower as well.
Make sure you are considering the age of your yacht. Even if it is on the smaller end, it will be more expensive if it is new and custom-built to your wants.
Even if you think a 40-foot yacht is the cheapest option, these small factors make for a sliding price scale.
You might find that a smaller, new, custom yacht is more expensive than an older, simpler, larger yacht. One benefit of an older yacht is that it should have the improvements and equipment that make it comfortable to operate and will not have those additional costs.
For sailboat prices specifically, check out this article .
Our Pick: Viking 42 Convertible: Cruise and Fish (2014)
Price: $895,000
- Cushioned seats
- Underwater lights
- Flybridge fiberglass hard-top
- Recent engine and service
- Joystick control
- Cockpit shade with poles, freezer, and step-up box
- Custom chairs
- Coach roof overhang to provide shade
- home theater setup
- Freshwater wash area
- Cockpit freezer and drink box
- Forward-facing viewing windows in deckhouse
Here’s a great example of a yacht with differing ages and year models. It has twin diesel engines, 600 hp each, and cruise at 35 mph (pretty fast!).
Yacht Price Examples for Three Other 40-50 Foot
- 42-foot Grand Banks 42 Classic; trawler-cruiser style yacht; twin diesel, 350 hp each, cruising speed is 13 mph. Price: $370,000 for 2004; $124,500 for 1986; older ones for less
- 45-foot Sea Ray 450 Sundancer or Sedan Bridge; single or twin diesel, about 1,000 hp total; cruising speed about 26 mph Price: $472,000 for 2012 twin-engine
- 41-foot Back Cove Downeast; single diesel 715 hp; cruising speed is 26 mph Price: $619,000 for 2016
50 Foot Yacht Cost
50-foot yachts are normally owner-operated, so you wouldn’t need to pay for a crew. Now we are around the size of 2-bedroom yachts.
They can provide more living space giving the owner flexibility for more guests and making it a more permanent residential option. With more space comes the opportunity to install more amenities as well.
The biggest difference between the 40-foot vessel and the 50-foot is the accommodations.
Expect three-cabin layouts, which give plenty of space for rest. The opportunity to create guest rooms, owners’ suite, and entertainment spaces are better with these yachts.
Our Pick: Hatteras GT54 Convertible Sportfish
The price for the 2017 model of this used yacht starts at $2,249,000.
This yacht is 53′ 10″ long and weighs 75,000 pounds! It has twin diesel engines, 1,300 hp each, cruising speed of 35 mph.
It has a 1200-gallon fuel capacity with three staterooms. It sleeps up to 6 people, so it is perfect for entertaining without being so large to the point where maintenance becomes very difficult. It is known for its great propulsion rates and is very smooth and agile.
It specializes as a fishing boat but allows plenty of room for guests. In addition to the three staterooms, it has a large salon deck, a spacious galley, and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.
Yacht Price Examples for Two Other 50 Foot
- 51-foot Azimut Magellano 50; express cruiser; twin diesel engines, 425 hp each, cruising speed 16 mph Price: $670,760 for 2013
- 52-foot Carver C52 Command Bridge; twin diesel engines, 600 hp each; cruising speed 18- 26 mph Price: $1,149,000 for 2017; $1,750,00 for 2021 with bow thrusters, gyro-stabilizer
How much is a large yacht? Let’s step up to 60 foot.
60 Foot Yacht Cost
Now we’re looking at 2-bedroom yacht prices. A yacht in this range approaches the upper end of the owner/operator criteria.
This means that owners need to decide whether they can handle this size yacht on their own or if they need to hire outside help from a crew.
If you’re thinking of buying a boat this size, the cost may not be an issue, but understand that adding crew members adds substantial extra expenses! Crew salaries start at around $3K /mth for junior members and $10K for captains and experienced crew members.
This size is great for longer travels beyond day trips and adds more and more space for extra amenities. Hosting guests becomes easier.
Here are some examples:
Our Pick: Hatteras M60
The average base price for this model is around $2,995,000.
The Hatteras M60 is great for someone who wants the luxury of a larger yacht but still wants to be an owner-operator. The deck’s layout below and above is spacious, with a large salon and a full master suite. It can be customized to order with hardwood floors or specific carpeting and amenities like TVs, a bar, a full kitchen, etc. It is a motor yacht, meant for pleasure cruising.
It has twin diesel engines, 1135 hp each; cruising speed is 28 mph.
Yacht Price Examples for Two Other 60 Foot
- 64-foot Schaefer 640; express cruiser; twin diesel engines, 625 hp each; cruising speed 25 mph Price: $1,299,000 for 2017
- 60-foot Sunreef 62 Sailing Catamaran; twin diesel engines 110 hp each; cruising speed 10 mph Price: $990,000 for 2009
70 Foot Yacht Cost
We’re now looking at 3-bedroom yachts. Once you reach this size yacht, it is almost guaranteed you will need a crew to help operate it. A crewed yacht is very different from an owner-operated yacht.
This is just shy of the superyacht category, so if you settle on this size, know you are almost there!
As previously mentioned, as the yacht size gets larger, so do the number of factors that make the purchase more layered and complex.
When yachts reach this size, the interior layout begins to change more drastically. They often have a spacious main deck perfect for dining and entertaining guests, whereas below, the yacht would likely have four or more cabins and crew quarters.
With more rooms comes more cost and more opportunity to customize the space to make it your own.
Here are some great options for this size:
Our Pick: Hatteras GT70 Convertible Sportfish
The 2017 GT70 model runs around $4,500,000, but keep in mind the extra costs of maintenance, furnishing, and a cabin crew to help it run. It’s great for a long vacation and far-away destinations.
The GT70 convertible sportfish is known for its speed and agility, and high propulsion power. It has twin diesel engines, 1900 hp each; cruising speed over 30 mph.
It is 70′ 6″ with 2,140-gallon fuel capacity. The inside is lavish, with a galley, a huge salon, and five staterooms.
Yacht Price Examples for Two Other 70 Foot
- 75-foot Hatteras Motor Yacht; sport cruiser; twin diesel, 1800 hp each; cruising speed 28 mph. Price: $4,375,000 for 2017
- 74-foot Ocean Alexander Motoryacht; twin diesel, 1150 hp each; cruising speed 24 mph. Price: $1,895,000 for 2011
100 Foot Yacht Costs (and up):
You are officially in the superyacht range.
These yachts come in all styles and shapes, allowing for cruising along coastlines or focusing on watercraft and speed boating.
Since this is likely the peak size boat for practical use, you can expect a lot of additional costs for hiring a crew, maintenance, docking, as well as stocking your boat full of amenities.
You’re likely to spend the bulk of your costs furnishing this size boat as bigger yachts typically are sold without furniture. The previous owner will want to hold on to designer furniture and other expensive interior.
Check out these great examples of 100-foot yachts .
Our Pick: 143′ 04″ Virtus 44
This model cost around $20,189,000.
This mega yacht is anyone’s dream.
It is home to a fully integrated beach club with room for a pool deck, floor-to-ceiling windows in the main salon, a hot tub on the top deck, five staterooms, an 8-person crew, and room to sleep ten guests.
It has room for water toys and other gadgets, with a layout that keeps them purposefully hidden from the outside world. It has a 12-knot cruising speed and 16-knot max speed,
Other 100+ Feet Yachts Price Examples
- 98′ 5″ AB 100 Price: $8,843,260 for 2018
- 161′ 04″ Acico Nassima Price: $17,933,000 for 2012
How Much is Yacht Insurance?
Insurance on a yacht is around 1% of the purchase price per year. It can go higher if you have lots of expensive designer furniture. This can add up over the years. It’s often cheaper to insure a sailing yacht but the price range is still within the 0.7-1.3%.
What Other Expenses Do Yacht Owners Face?
Harbor fees is another expense for yacht owners. It’s also a yearly fee that varies but as a rule of thumb, you can expect to pay around $100 per foot per year, depending on how popular the marina is. You will also have to be on a waitlist if you want a good location.
How Much Does a Luxury Yacht Cost?
A super yacht fall under the category of “luxury yachts” or “mega-yachts”.
The world’s largest private vessel belongs to the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s Azzam. It is 590 feet long and costs $600 million to build!
It is outliers like these that increase the price average for yacht owners, perhaps scaring potential owners when they start their research.
As a luxury yacht price guide, however, we need to look at averages.
Currently, the average superyacht costs $275 million. This does not even account for maintenance costs, either.
Superyachts are large and luxurious, needing a professional crew to help them run. They are designed to emphasize comfort, speed, and longer expeditions – depending on the yacht builders.
They might have:
- swimming pools,
- water toys,
- diving and fishing poles,
- fully furnished rooms,
- helicopter landing pads,
- and smaller support vessels
Just to name a few amenities. They are truly the epitome of the elite.
What Size Boat is Considered a Yacht?
The normal yacht length starts at around 23 feet, and can extend hundreds of feet. If the boat meets 23 feet, it can be considered a yacht.
A boat does not need luxury features to be considered a yacht.
It can be minimal and stripped of the “extra” stuff to fall into the yacht category, so long as it meets the size and length criteria.
11 Things to Consider Before You Purchase
When making this purchase, the yacht size you buy needs to reflect what you hope to get out of the vessel.
Some important questions to ask yourself before you buy are:
- What does your perfect day on the water look like?
- How long will your average day on the water be?
- Will it be more boating/watercraft focused or long cruise focused?
- Will you use the yacht for fishing?
- Will you be on the yacht every day of the week or just on weekends?
- How many people do you hope to fit on the yacht?
- Do you plan to stay on the yacht overnight?
- Where will you dock the yacht?
- How much boating experience do you have?
- How fast do you want the yacht to go?
- How important is it to have extra amenities like furnished rooms, water toys, electronics, etc.?
These questions will guide you to understand the size you really need and will be able to realistically maintain versus what your most ideal yacht would look like.
When Do You Need a Full-Time Crew?
At length over 50 or 60 feet, you may need a full-time captain or crew.
A full-time crew person will be needed to keep all the varnished woodwork looking good and all the little things maintained.
Sometimes, you must be honest with yourself about what you want and what you actually need. Be self-aware about your abilities (or lack thereof) in taking care of a specific size yacht.
If you don’t know much about boats and navigation, you will need more help to use your vessel.
Hopefully, this comprehensive guide gives you a good starting point as you begin your yacht price research process.
Important Things to Consider As Well
Although there are many factors to consider when understanding a yacht’s prices, it is an exciting purchase nonetheless and should be enjoyed as much as possible.
At the end of your research, you’ll be the owner of a beautiful yacht you can use for leisure, cruising, sports craft, fishing, or all of the above.
Although this article is a good starting point, we would also recommend getting in touch with a yacht broker who can help you find your best fit , model, year, and the price is given your personal budget.
They are great sources of knowledge in addition to personal research.
Make sure you are as patient as possible in this process to make sure you are covering all your bases, but most importantly, enjoy the process!
Here’s How Much Yachts Cost on Average:
Yachts start around $300,000 for smaller 40-foot models and can go as high as several hundred million dollars for superyachts.
These are the main contributing factors to the price of a yacht:
- The size of the yacht
- The age of the yacht
- The brand and type of yacht
In general, the larger the yacht is, the more important the quality of the build becomes.
Also, potential owners need to understand the cruising speed and propulsion of different yachts.
The yacht type is also broken down into two categories:
- Mediterranean Style Open style expresses yacht with maximum space for sun, little-to-no shade on the deck.
- Hard-top express Semi-enclosed or fully-enclosed space on deck for the operator
- Flybridge yachts
An express yacht is often referred to interchangeably as an express cruiser or sports cruiser .
It has a single deck above the hull with a living space below.
They are much sleeker, too.
A flybridge yacht is often referred to as a sedan bridge or sport bridge, and it is typically used for fishing. It has additional space above the main deck.
Since the flybridge area has more space on the second deck, the main deck is normally made up of enclosed spaces and rooms.
It can have an open-air layout but can also have a hard-top.

Boat once owned by Jimmy Buffett up for sale, broker says
MONTAUK, N.Y. — "Parrotheads" around the world now have an opportunity to own a part of Margaritaville history.
SI Yachts , a luxury yacht dealer with offices in Florida and the northeast, has put the famous boat once owned by music icon Jimmy Buffett up for sale.
The sportfishing boat, LAST MANGO II, is reportedly located in Montauk, New York, and is listed for sale at an asking price of $999,000.
It was custom-built for Buffett before its mold was destroyed on purpose, ensuring that it would be one of a kind, according to SI Yachts.
"The owner of the boat was personal friends with Jimmy and bought it from him directly," SI Yachts broker Steve Messenger stated in a release. "It was custom built for Jimmy Buffett by Rybovich Spencer and when it was completed, he had the shipyard completely destroy the mold, so it could never again be copied."
SI Yachts said Buffett and LAST MANGO II put in nearly 5,000 hours of travel, making countless trips through the Florida Keys, Bahamas and the Hudson Canyon to fish with friends.
Messenger said the boat's engines have been re-manufactured with the top-end speed now at 35 knots and cruising speed at 24 knots.
The broker added the listing is the ultimate opportunity for Jimmy Buffett fans to "own something that was a big part of him and his life."
"Everyone knows about his love for the ocean, boating, fishing, and the whole lifestyle through his music," Messenger stated. "I can't imagine how awesome the feeling would be to crank up 'Volcano', with a cold drink in my hand, slow trolling in the Bahamas!"
Anyone interested in the boat can contact Messenger at 732-232-9581 or email him at [email protected].

Providence couple's Rolls-Royce look-alike boat is the talk of the water
by SAMANTHA READ, NBC 10 NEWS
WARWICK, R.I. (WJAR) — A Providence couple is turning a lot of heads when it comes to their recent purchase.
Anita and Dawaye Ratchford have been together for more than 20 years.
The couple each have their own interests and personal hobbies.
“Mine is the ocean, and his is cars," said Anita.
Anita is a Pisces. She said she's always loved being on the water and participating in anything related to it.
Dawayne has always loved cars. He works on them in his free time, and he's very handy.
With a love for both, Dawayne had an idea to purchase a boat that looked like a car.
Dawayne said his research led him to a company that produced just that.
“I honestly was looking into it because I’m into cars, she’s into water, so I honestly wanted to find something that fits both of us," he said. "I saw these and did a lot of research and they're built in Turkey but in Miami for sale."
Dawayne purchased a Watercraft Sports Car.
It cost a pretty penny, but it was an investment Anita said was worth it.
“Together 20-something years, I support anything he does. I'm kind of like a car girl now too, plus, I love the water too so why not? I’m just a passenger princess," she said.
The exterior is an almost identical replica of a dark blue Rolls-Royce with leopard print trim.
It's a boat, made similarly to the car, except it's only for water.
“People are confused. They want to know if it drives on the road or water, so I have to keep explaining it’s just for the water and it’s a boat," he said. “It has a gas pedal. Gas and reverse just like a car.”
Two months ago, Dawayne traveled to Florida to pick up the boat.
He hauled it back to Rhode Island in a trailer and did some of his own work on it.
“As far as the radio, the AC, anything else that I wanted, I added a convertible roof too, just things that I like, to make it mine," he said.
The boat can reach up to 70 mph.
It seats four people comfortably and has an interior similar to that of a sports car.
“It moves fast like a Jet Ski, and it’s comfortable like a boat," he said. “You have to feel it to enjoy it. You have to be in it to feel it to understand it.”
Since launching their boat into the water, hundreds of people who catch a glimpse of it can't believe their eyes.
Dozens have taken or posed for pictures with it.
“All different kinds of reactions, a lot of good ones. We never see the negative ones, but we hear them on social media, but it’s alright we’re having fun," said Anita.
"I’m enjoying that’s all that matters," added Dawayne. "It's different than what everybody else is riding, and driving, so I just like to be different.”
- SHOW US SOMETHING GOOD: Johnston woman fixes dolls to donate to kids in need
The Ratchfords said to their knowledge, they're the only ones with a boat like theirs, on the water, in the Ocean State.
“I really don’t like the attention but then I do. It’s bittersweet," said Anita.
“This is different. Everything else I have is on land, but this is for the water and for her. I can take her out, be on the water, and still be in a car," said Dawayne.
Sailboat sinks in waters off the South Shore. What led up to the sinking
Two boats collided near Grape Island in Hingham Bay on Friday, fire department officials said.
The U.S. Coast Guard said it responded to a collision between a 21-foot sailboat and a 38-foot power boat along with the Quincy and Weymouth harbormasters. The sailboat sank.
The incident happened near Grape Island, which is about 1 mile north of Hingham Harbor in Weymouth.
A female suffered injuries which were described by officials as serious. She was taken to a Boston-area hospital while a male was taken to a hospital in Weymouth.
The investigation into the collision continues as authorities work to determine if someone is at fault.

OTTAWA COUNTY, MI – A woman suffered serious injuries late Wednesday, Aug. 14, when the boat she was riding in struck the south pier on Lake Michigan near Holland State Park.
The woman, 18, was thrown into the water and rocks on the channel side of the pier and was rescued by another boat passenger, Ottawa County sheriff’s deputies said.
The teen suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash happened around 10:15 p.m.
A 69-year-old Holland man was operating a 26-foot boat when it crashed into the south pier about 75 yards east of the navigational beacon at the end of the pier, police said.
The injured woman was thrown into the channel that leads to Lake Macatawa.
She and two other woman, ages 19 and 22, all from Holland, were on the boat.
Sheriff’s deputies and Park Township firefighters responded to a report of a boat crash with one person in the water. One of the passengers had already pulled the injured woman out of the water.
She was taken by AMR Ambulance to Holland Hospital. The crash remains under investigation, police said.

It was a fun cruise on a beautiful day. Service was good. Food was good. Ship is larger than others so you could walk and explore. Definitely will go again
Dinner on the Lady Caroline. Plus a Royal Caribbean Travel Agent event Our hostess Kathy Vesely Killen BDM for RCC invited us. myself and a few coworkers from AAA Travel Agency.. So classy, the ship had engine trouble and we never left the dock. Better to be stuck here then out in the lake. She asked us to stay have dinner and we'll do over another time. She gave a presentation on the new ships for Royal Caribbean Cruise she has been out business manager for years. If interested in a 3-4 day fun cruise call me! Overall the servers did well seeing the ship never left dock. Our Hostess was amazing. The food was ok- banquet food, our problem was tables in order to get you own dish by 1-20 and we were at Table 19. Beautiful evening thanks to the Cleveland skyline.....at the dock :)

Lady Caroline has replaced the Nautica Queen that is retired. It's spacious. Four floors are used for large group entertainment. We went with a large group. First floor is walk in, and has tables and a baby grand piano. Second floor was dining. Very nice heavy hors-d'oeruvres were dinner. Specially drinks were delicious. Service was excellent. Third floor was a large dance floor with seating, and a bar. Fourth floor was the open top with spectacular views of the city. Our cruise on Lake Erie and the Cuyahoga River was about two hours, and docked for an hour. We were there from 5-8 p.m. I would go again.

First of all, the boat/ship was extremely Hot and intolerable. I asked for accommodation if a fan was available and was told no. Furthermore my table and guest were seated next to the engine room vent, which was giving off more heat. The waitress that had our table looked tired from all the running around that she forgot to bring beverage orders to the table. The food was tasteless, bland and dry. I was bothered by the fact that the menu was short and limited with 1 or 2 options available for vegan diets. I walked around to access just how hot the ship was and the 1st floor which primarily had senior citizens. Everybody was fanning themselves with the menu. The second floor had air completely and the 3rd level was humid with the windows open. Why introduce a new ship that is sub-standard to the Nautica. Nautica was way better, services were great, food was good with many options, even for vegans. The price does not equate to the level of service and quality that was given. I am very disappointed with cruise and just want anyone else deciding to take this cruise to please be aware. If this is considered an upgrade to the Nautica, then everyone run. One concerning thing, I noticed is that I never saw any AED station on the walls on each floor. For the hundreds of dollars I just spent on this floppy cruise is disturbing, unacceptable, and poses a safety issue due to the temperatures, lazi fair attitudes of service staff. Refunding me on half of this cruise would be the courtesy thing to do, to make this right.
I had a group of 50 guests We were on the oldies luncheon cruise. The staff was very pleasant. The place was beautiful, but the food that they served us was horrible. It did not even look appetizing and it had no taste whatsoever. I was advised that they did not have a catering company, but that they had a chef that prepared the food , and I'm sure he tasted the food he would not have served that that particular day the fish was awful and tasteless as well as the macaroni and cheese and the potatoes which were mashed potatoes, corn out of the can tasteless the head of chicken patty that was not edible at all in my opinion And the worst was the stuffed cabbage. It looked disgusting and with all of that on a plate actually felt like out of the window however, the salad was delicious and so was the bread. The iced tea was good, but my entire party was so disgusted with the food we all admitted that as soon as we left there, we had to go to other restaurants And fast food places to try to eat something because we were hungry. The food was just awful and my opinion and the opinion of many of my other guest $60 is a hefty price for awful food these days .. I really can't see myself returning to that establishment. The boat was beautiful. and the staff was very nice and accommodating, but the chef needs to step his game up.
Salad first with only one type of dressing. Balsamic. Buffet offered: green beans with carrots-Al dente. Mashed potatoes with chives, chicken breast, meat loaf, crab cakes and rolls also pound cake with whipped cream and strawberries. Very pleasant. Waitress needed to be friendly but other waitresses assisted where she fell short. DJ was good. Atmosphere was noisy until guests went to dance. Not a bad lunch affair. Caterer could work on flavors though!
Buffet plate
The food was pretty good. The prime rib was a little dryer and we done more than I would like. The fish was amazing and the cheesecake was really good. The pork was dry and the chicken was dry.
Exceptional service, value and FUN with out group of 70-80 people on Lady Caroline's first trip. Staff was amazing, getting drinks, and working through the buffet line. Excellent entrees, really tasty fish and chicken. We explored and found the dance floor- DJ was perfect!
I have been disappointed by them twice! The ship never sailed! Yet they charged full price! Beautiful ship and good food but the purpose of the outing was to cruise not just eat!
Very good experience, the food was buffet style . Cocktails are available. Truly had a great lunch. Would recommend.

Off-duty Virginia firefighter rescues 6 people from boat fire near James River Bridge
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — An off-duty firefighter helped rescue six men from the water near the James River Bridge on Sunday.
Jason Edwards, a 25-year veteran of the Newport News Fire Department, was on his fishing boat with his father and a friend when the emergency started. He says maybe two minutes after they left the marina, he saw a boat with heavy smoke coming from it.

“Over to my left by the bridge was the six individuals. Three of them had life vests. One of them had a safety ring and they had made their way up to the pilings," described Edwards.
They managed to get the men onboard. According to Edwards, two of them suffered severe burns.
“They were panicked. They were very thankful to see us. They were thankful to be able to get in the boat.”
WATCH: Boat runs aground; marine authorities talk safety
The boat was taken in and authorities are investigating to find out what caused the fire. Chief Wesley Rogers is proud but not surprised to hear that Edwards jumped into action.
“It shows you the true heart that our first responders have,” said Rogers. “A lot of individuals would just kind of watch, report it as they sit, but our first responders think, ‘Hey, I’ve got to get out there. I’ve got to help.’ And that’s exactly what he did. He went right towards the danger. Without him, we don’t know what could have happened, but those individuals were lucky to have an individual like that ready to go and in that situation at the right time.”
“I’ve been on the boat my whole life, been on the water my whole life," Edwards added. "Owned several boats before and never been in a situation like that, to have to rescue someone into the boat.”

Nearly 500 migrants crossed Channel in small boats on Saturday
The latest arrivals take the provisional total for the year so far to more than 19,000.
Sunday 18 August 2024 15:00, UK
Nearly 500 migrants crossed the Channel in small boats on Saturday, the Home Office has said.
The latest figures showed that 492 people made the crossing in nine boats - after a week that saw hundreds more make the journey.
Some 107 arrived on Wednesday, 125 on Monday and 703 last Sunday, the figures revealed.
The combined total of 1,427 in seven days takes the provisional total for the year so far to 19,066.
More crossings tend to occur in calmer weather and winds have been lighter in the Channel over the period.
Last Sunday's figure was the highest number of daily crossings since Sir Keir Starmer became prime minister in early July and his spokesman last week said the government expects to see more over the summer.
The highest number of arrivals recorded in a single day so far this year was 882 on 18 June, with the second highest of 711 on 1 May - both under the previous government before the general election.

But the Tory opposition has been critical of the Labour's decision to ditch the previous government's Rwanda plan, which ministers at the time argued would deter Channel crossings.
