On launching in 1959 at the Amsterdam shipyard that would eventually become known as Feadship, Yachting World magazine predicted with some accuracy, “… it would be hard to find a vessel of more essentially fine seagoing qualities, not only in terms of comfort but also of ultimate safety… she is, and will probably remain, a unique vessel.”

FLEURTJE was commissioned by Yiannis Carras (also known as John Carras), one of the most successful participants in the powerhouse that Greek shipowning became after the Second World War. But his ownership of CARITA as she was named at launching was little known, hidden behind a company name. And, despite owning the yacht described by Yachting World magazine as “the most remarkable and largest yacht yet built post war”, unlike some of his contemporaries, man – and schooner – remained low profile.

From the yacht’s point of view this could easily be attributed to spending much of the first twenty plus years of her life apparently little used, moored at her owner’s eponymous Porto Carras resort in the Toronean Gulf. The story goes that it was a cruise with CARITA that found the spot. Her name changed to ARGONAFTIS while still under Carras’s ownership.

The choice of Robert Clark as designer guaranteed a yacht touching all bases in performance. The hull design was hydrodynamically tested at the Nederlands Scheepsbouwkundig Proefstation (NSP) tank at Wageningen, prior to the keel being laid in Amsterdam by N.V. Amsterdamsche Scheepswerf, G. De Vries Lentsch Jr – now better known as Feadship – and the construction commencing under Lloyd’s ✠100A1 supervision. The Lloyd’s surveyor for the build, John Leather – who in later life, during the “classic yacht revival”, would become a revered historian and author – remembered well the incongruity of Robert Clark’s yard visits, impeccably rigged out as the English gentleman in brown bowler hat, bow tie and camel coat amid the ferrous nature of a steel shipbuilding yard.

During the early stages of build, Yachting World reported that the original twin Davey, Paxman 597hp diesel engines alone were predicted to give a speed of 14 knots via Stones variable pitch, fully feathering propellers; one knot more than the speed previously considered suitable for power yachts of the same length. They went on to say: “Thus well powered and with adequate sail area, and with a hull of such excellent seaworthiness, it would be hard to find a vessel of more essentially fine seagoing qualities, not only in terms of comfort but also of ultimate safety.”

On launching in 1959 – with two huge floating cranes to ease her into the water because she was too long for the yard’s slipway – Yachting World was again in awe, predicting with some accuracy: “she is, and will probably remain, a unique vessel.” Despite thousands of sailing superyacht launchings over the past 25 years, FLEURTJE still regularly appears in published lists of the largest, with accommodation to rival many more recent and surely less elegant vessels.

A mid-1980s change to what would become long and stable ownership by Dutch oil trader John Deuss breathed new life info this still superlative superyacht, not least from a very major refit at Cantiere Navale dell’Argentario north of Rome under the supervision of John Winterbotham and Richard Davies during which ease of sail handling was significantly updated. Her original 1960s interior was redesigned utilising the present oak panelling, all to designs by Leila Kennedy who had also been significantly involved in seeking out the yacht.

Re-launched in 1985 under her present name FLEURTJE, as subsequent refit locations both sides of the Atlantic bear witness, she has finally gained her sea legs over the past 35 years.

During a further major refit 1994-1995 at Pendennis Shipyard, Cornwall, England, under the supervision of Gerald Dykstra her rig design and sail handling systems were vastly improved to the extent that the crew required to sail FLEURTJE has been halved from her original launch. She was a regular and spectacular competitor at Antigua Classic Regatta in the mid 2000s, comfortably standing up to all eight sails in tradewind conditions.

Her present owners – only the fourth in 60 years – have continued the care process into the second half century of this remarkable classic superyacht that has been the maritime love of each owner’s life.

Sailing Yacht FLEURTJE received her stylish interior designing from the interior design office of Leila Kennedy (Refit). Built at Nv Amsterdamsche Scheepswerf G De Vries Lentsch Jr this yacht was constructed in the known yacht building country the Netherlands. She was officially launched in Amsterdam in 1960 before being handed over to the owner. Her core hull was constructed with steel. The sailing yacht main superstructure is fabricated predominantly using aluminium. The total length of the luxury yacht on deck is 52.03 (170.7 ft). With a beam of 8.56 metres or 28.1 feet FLEURTJE has fairly large internal space. She has a deep draught of 4.79m (15.7ft). She had refit improvement and alteration work completed by 2008.

Black crowes cancel minnesota yacht club appearance set for friday.

The Black Crowes have canceled their appearance set for Friday at the inaugural Minnesota Yacht Club festival at Harriet Island in St. Paul. The reason is "illness in the band," according to the fest's post on X on Thursday evening.

The veteran Atlanta rockers known for the 1990s hits "Hard to Handle" and "She Talks to Angels" did not post anything on its social media about the cancellation.

The Black Crowes had been scheduled to perform from 8 to 9 p.m. The Head and the Heart will now shift into that slot, and the set times have been adjusted.

MACKINAC ISLAND, MI - Before the first boats ever left Navy Pier this weekend, Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac organizers knew the weather forecast would make this 115th competition one of the faster courses in the race’s history - if the sailing crews could avoid the storms forecast to sweep across Lake Michigan.

And while the storms did send at least three damaged boats limping out of the race and caused a man overboard situation, southerly wind conditions were a boon to the frontrunners, creating a downwind drag race and leading to a record-breaking win that smashed the old Race to Mackinac record by more than an hour.

The Maverick’s crew beat Roy P. Disney’s 22-year-old record with a time of 22 hours, 24 minutes, 23 seconds. This bested the Disney heir’s record set in 2002 with Pyewacket by an hour, six minutes and 11 seconds.

The Maverick team was led by Sanford Burris and William and Ward Kinney. The boat also claimed the race’s Royono Trophy for the first racing monohull to finish the 115th edition.

“I will tell you from my perspective, I wish the record had lasted longer, but these things are inevitable,” said Disney, a well-known figure in the sailing world who is the grand-nephew of Walt Disney. “Given how long it took to break that record shows how difficult a course it is, and what a classic sailboat race it is! Many congratulations to the owner, the crew and the boat, Maverick.”

Nearly 250 boats joined the 333-mile race from Chicago’s Navy Pier to the finish line near Mackinac Island. Known as America’s Offshore Challenge, it’s the world’s longest annual freshwater sailing race. The race is divided into the Cruising Division, which left Chicago on Friday, and the sleeker Racing Division, which began racing on Saturday.

What was the secret to this weekend’s fast times?

“Most important is a southerly wind direction and strength, combined with advancements in boats and sails,” said Winn Soldani, chair for the 115th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac presented by Wintrust. “Plus you add in last night’s storms that brought increased breeze and it’s literally the perfect setup for a record-breaking year.”

Maverick’s Sanford Burris is from Kirtland, Ohio. “He sails with his sons and many longtime friends on the carbon fiber Andrews 80 they have spent the past three years upgrading. Joining the 20 crew onboard was Evolution Sails founder Rodney Keenan,” race staff said.

“The team celebrated briefly as the Maverick team crossed the Race to Mackinac finish line between Mackinac Island and the Round Island lighthouse … and then kept on sailing.”

The Maverick is one of a couple dozen sailboats competing in this year’s “Super Mac” race - which means it keeps going instead of stopping at Mackinac Island for the big afterparty. It races south down Lake Huron to reach Port Huron - a race of 495 nautical miles. The Bayview Mackinac Race - which is next week - starts near the Blue Water Bridge and competing sailboats will race north to Mackinac Island. Those boats running the “Super Mac” can also do the Bayview and it’s like running three races in a week’s span.

Special Requirements for IRS-CI Property

Lots offered by the IRS-CI are noted in the catalog. The IRS-CI reviews all bidders for IRS-CI offered lots and approval may take up to three (3) business days. This does not change the requirements for payment. Please call ahead before pickup to ensure that the IRS-CI has approved your purchase.

Some merchandise in this sale has a reserve price. When the auction closes, each lot will display either SOLD or ENDED. SOLD indicates the reserve (if there is a reserve) was met, and a payment email will be sent to the high bidder. ENDED indicates all final bids did not meet the reserve. In this case, CWSAMS will ask the seller if they will accept the high bid. If the seller accepts the high bid, an email notice confirming the approval will be sent to the high bidder, along with payment instructions.

Final Payment

All items must be paid in full within 48 hours (2 business days) from time the bid approval email is sent by bank wire or cashier’s check only. Cashier’s checks are made payable to CWS Marketing Group, Inc. See terms of sale for submission details. For lots that do not meet reserve, and the bid is approved after the sale, the Buyer will have 48 hours from the time notification is sent to make final payment.

Removal is the responsibility of, and at the expense and risk of Buyer. CWSAMS, nor the agencies represented, ship any property. If shipping is desired, it is the sole responsibility of the buyer. Therefore it is strongly recommended that buyers look into shipping arrangements prior to bidding.

OFFER PROCEDURES

Offers are accumulated weekly through each Monday at 4:00 PM ET. In the event a particular Monday is a Federal Holiday, the deadline is extended an additional 24 hours. The high offer on a particular vessel is submitted to the Seller for consideration the following business day. The Seller, at its sole option, may accept or reject with or without a counter offer. Responses typically occur within 48 hours, no response constitutes a rejection of theoffer.

Upon notification of acceptance of an offer (either verbal or electronic), successful Bidder has 1 business day to deposit into National Liquidators escrow account, the greater of 10% of Gross Offer or $1,000.

Upon notification of acceptance of an offer (either verbal or electronic), successful Bidder has 5 business days to complete any and all conditions listed above in the “Conditions Of Offer”. In any case, any remaining amounts due must be deposited into National Liquidators escrow account, within 5 business days after notification of acceptance of an offer (either verbal or electronic). NOTICE REGARDING TITLING OR US COAST GUARD DOCUMENTATION

National Liquidators makes no guarantees, representations or warranties as to title or the ability to document or register the vessel. National Liquidators are acting as a broker only and issues as to title, documentation and registration are between the Buyer and the Seller, owner or lien holder. The required $399.00 administrative fee covers National’s efforts to obtain titling and documentation information from the Seller; it does not include transfer of title or documentation to Buyer. National Liquidators can process transfer of title or documentation to Buyer an additional fee. Buyers that are interested in this service can contact National’s title department for details, including charges. Ohio Law requires National to transfer title (not USCG documentation) directly to Ohio residents only, a $150 fee is charged for this service.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING SALES TAX

Purchasers must pay sales tax at the applicable rate in their respective states. Dealers that wish to be treated as tax-exempt are required to provide a state sale tax number, valid marine dealer’s certificate, sign a Resale Certificate or Statement for Exemption of Purchase, and any other required documentation.

The security deposit protects SalvageReseller.com should you fail to pay for the vehicle you purchased, as we are responsible for ensuring payment of awarded vehicles to Copart.

The security deposit must be a minimum of $400 or 10% of the bid amount (whichever is higher), as the amount of your security deposit limits the amount of your bid.

Yes, the security deposit is 100% refundable if you do not purchase a vehicle or if you request it upon meeting all payment terms. You forfeit your security deposits if you are awarded a vehicle and do not meet all payment terms and conditions.

You can pick up salvage cars for sale directly at the Copart facility where the vehicle is stored immediately after we receive the documents you need to sign, and the vehicle is paid in full. We don't ship vehicles but we can help you find a transportation company.

Payment must be made to Inloher Corp. with a deposit in our Bank of America account or by wire transfer, you CANNOT pay at any Copart facility. No other form of payment is accepted. The payment must be received and cleared within two business days of the sale in order to avoid the $50 Copart late payment fee. Of course, actually we highly recommend to always inspect the vehicles before bidding, you can even inspect cars for auction before registering with us. You can visit the Copart facility where the vehicle is stored Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 4.30pm. Please remember that ALL VEHICLES ARE SOLD AS "AS IS – WHERE IS". The titles can take up to 30 - 45 days for us to receive from Copart, even if it is not a pending title. Then, we will process them and mail them to you to the address on file or, in the case of Florida residents, process them at the tag agency, and you will receive them in the mail from Tallahassee. Please make sure you have all your documents signed, that you submit your ID and that you remove the vehicle on a timely manner as Copart will not mail us the title until the vehicle is removed from the yard. Florida residents must have the Power of Attorney, notarized and mailed to us, for us to be able to process the title.

Court denies US request to sell yacht it says belongs to sanctioned Russian oligarch

A New York court has denied the U.S. government the right to sell a superyacht that it alleges belongs to sanctioned Russian oligarch Suleyman Kerimov.

The ruling means that U.S. taxpayers will continue to foot the bill for roughly $740,000 a month for the 106-meter Amadea's upkeep and insurance.

The luxury vessel, with an estimated value of $230 million, is at the center of a legal battle over the enforcement of U.S. sanctions against Russia. American prosecutors allege that Kerimov and his proxies routed dollar transactions through U.S. financial institutions to maintain the yacht, which would constitute a sanctions violation.

In May 2022, the island nation of Fiji confiscated the Amadea and later transferred it to the United States. The U.S. government would like to sell the yacht and transfer the proceeds to Ukraine.

But that procedure, known as civil forfeiture, grew more complicated when another Russian billionaire, Eduard Khudainatov, who is not under U.S. sanctions, claimed the Amadea actually belongs to him.

In court filings, the Justice Department has termed Khudainatov a "straw owner" for Kerimov. Khudainatov denies that.

The legal battle over Amadea could take a while. Until it concludes, the U.S. government is paying roughly $600,000 for the yacht's upkeep and $140,000 for its insurance each month.

In a bid to decrease those expenses, the U.S. government requested permission to sell the vessel and convert its value into cash. That practice is relatively common in civil forfeiture cases when an asset is rapidly depreciating in value or its upkeep is excessively costly.

But on Tuesday, the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York ruled that the cost of maintaining Amadea was not "excessive."

To assess "whether the maintenance costs of the Amadea are excessive, the court must not look solely at the total dollar amount of the maintenance costs, but must principally consider whether those amounts are more than what is usual as compared to the maintenance costs for other similar yachts," the judge wrote in the ruling.

The U.S. government could not prove the expenses met that standard, the court ruled. The Justice Department has the right to appeal the decision.

Two days after the ruling, lawyers representing Khudainatov and the company that directly owns the Amadea filed a memorandum opposing the U.S. government's efforts to strike Khudainatov from the case. Prosecutors allege that Khudainatov is not the yacht's actual owner, meaning he lacks standing to contest its forfeiture.

But the memorandum, which includes declarations from yacht employees and contractors, argues that Khudainatov is the true owner and, thus, the Amadea is not subject to forfeiture at all.

The U.S. government's attempts to strike Khudainatov from the case are "nothing more than a desperate attempt to steal the Amadea by default," Adam Ford and Renee Jarusinsky, counsel for Khudainatov and the ownership company, said in a statement.

"Mr. Khudainatov is, and always has been, the rightful owner of the Amadea," they continued. "We are confident that the truth will prevail and the boat will be returned. Until then, this costly burden that the government has placed on the American people will continue to grow heavier."

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E.вЂЇKilunovskaya and V. A.вЂЇSemenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.

Item description.

A dramatically set 2.4 cm tabular sapphire crystal dominates this sculptural and rich corundum specimen from this less well-known Urals locality. The textbook hexagonal crystal has classic sapphire-blue color, high luster and moderate translucence. The feldspar matrix holds at least eight more striking, stacked, tabular crystals. The back has been sawed to enhance the display quality. RARE and very seldom on the market material with a fine provenance from the Kay Robertson Collection # 11938 and formerly in the Fersman Museum Collection in Moscow. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).

The founders of the Bitter End Yacht Club chose this name to reflect both its geographical location and the spirit of adventure and perseverance inherent to sailors. Below Deck Sailing Yacht star Daisy Kelliher has shared an update on her sister, Bonnie, one month after her near-death accident.

As Monsters and Critics previously reported, Bonnie was in a moped accident while in Thailand.

Daisy explained then that it was a miracle her sister was alive.

Grateful that her sister is alive, Daisy shared that Bonnie has a long road ahead of her regarding recovery.

The two are back in Ireland together as Bonnie prepares for what comes next in her medical process.

Daisy shared an update after receiving an outpouring of love from Below Deck fans and family.

On social media, Daisy shared a video of her and Bonnie dancing. It was all fun and games until Daisy nearly hit Bonnie in the head, where she suffered her injury. Bonnie, smiling, moved out of the way as Daisy got her groove on.

The Below Deck Sailing Yacht beauty shared that Bonnie and their family are glad to return home. Bonnie’s taking some rest time before beginning more medical procedures in Ireland.

“She’s pretty tired and gets worn out easily and is still in a lot of pain and getting used to being numb and having nerve damage. She also had 5% of her lung removed so getting used to that but overall we are so aware of how lucky she is and how much worse this could have been,” Daisy wrote as part of her lengthy caption.

Once again, Daisy expressed thanks and gratitude to those who reached out during this time. Then, she gave insight into what’s ahead for Bonnie.

“It will be a long year but she’s already made so much progress in six weeks,” she explained.

The chief stew reiterated her message of safety when riding mopeds while traveling and having travel insurance. Daisy hopes to prevent other families from going through what she has since the accident.

There’s been a GoFundMe set up for Bonnie, as Daisy shared the extensive surgeries and medical costs that have and will occur over the next year as Bonnie heals.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans are patiently waiting for Season 5 of the hit yachting show. Daisy, Gary King, and Captain Glenn Shephard filmed the season, but sexual misconduct claims against Gary seem to have delayed the show’s arrival on Bravo airwaves.

Despite Season 5 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht not even airing yet, fans can’t help but wonder if Daisy will film Season 6. After all, the Irish beauty did help make the show a mega hit and beyond a fan favorite.

If Bravo and 51 Minds, the production company behind Below Deck Sailing Yacht, ask Daisy back, she will likely go, as filming is only six weeks long. Daisy loves the show, even the drama and chaos, so it would be a surprise if she declined even with Bonnie in recovery.

In the meantime, as Below Deck Med Season 9 hits the halfway point, here’s hoping we get news on Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 soon.

39m Fitzroy sailing yacht Lady M listed for auction with $5.5M minimum bid

The 38.9-metre Fitzroy sailing yacht Lady M is now available for bidding with G3 Auctions, an auction house based in Florida. A minimum bid of $5,500,000 has been set with a deadline for 24 August 2024.

Lady M 's last known owners were Scottish businessman Doug Barrowman and his wife Michelle Mone, a former Conservative peer at the House of Lords and the founder of lingerie company Ultimo.

The sailing yacht was delivered in 2006 to a design by the late Ed Dubois . Her original interiors were styled by British studio RWD , though H2 Yacht Design stepped in to redecorate during a major refit in 2022. Key numbers include a 8.3-metre beam, a volume of 170GT and a draft of four metres.

Accommodation is for a party of up to 10, comprising a king-sized owner's suite, a double cabin, a convertible twin with a Pullman berth and a twin cabin, also with a Pullman berth. There are further quarters for six crew.

Leisure highlights include the upper saloon, which is filled with light through the wraparound windscreen and arranged with a bar and seating with a convertible table. Meanwhile, the lower saloon features twin sofa seating, a coffee table and a large television.

Stepping outdoors, the main cockpit is shaded by a Bimini and features two small tables that can be connected to form a larger dining area.

Another al fresco offering is the bow, scattered with beanbags and sheltered from the sun by a large awning. Deckchairs can also be laid out on the swim platform.

"Sellers engage my company because time is money. In a normal market, it can take years to sell a yacht, a jet, or a luxury home," G3 Auctions president Guy Masters told BOAT International . "This auction provides a level playing field where buyers submit bids based on what they think the yacht is worth."

G3 Auctions has valued Lady M at $11,2000,000. The yacht is lying in Montenegro, according to BOATPro 's fleet tracker.

Japanese man arrested after sailing his yacht to Navy base on Okinawa

CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — A Japanese yachtsman was taken into custody this week after landing at White Beach Naval Facility, according to the Navy and Japan’s coast guard.

U.S. military police “arrested a Japanese man who landed within the premises of White Beach on a yacht” and reported it to the coast guard at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday, a coast guard news release said. The man was handed over to the coast guard at 3:13 p.m., according to the release.

A spokeswoman for Fleet Activities Okinawa said the man sailed a “leisure vessel” into restricted waters near White Beach. The coast guard towed the vessel away, according to an email from spokeswoman Candice Barber.

“U.S. Security forces responded, and at no point was the security or protection of the base in question,” she wrote. “As a reminder to the public, access to a U.S. Navy installation is restricted to authorized personnel.”

The man identified himself as Minoru Tomono, 77, of Saitama prefecture, just north of Tokyo. He carried no identification and coast guard officials could not immediately confirm his identity, a coast guard spokesman said by phone Wednesday. Some government officials in Japan are required to speak to the media on condition of anonymity.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, the spokesman said.

“We only know that he departed from Yonabaru Marina,” he said. Yonabaru is approximately 12 miles southwest of White Beach across the open water.

The man remains in custody at the Nakagusuku Coast Guard Office. Japan’s coast guard will either release him or forward his case to prosecutors within 48 hours of the arrest, the spokesman said.

If convicted of an offense, the man could face imprisonment for up to a year or a fine of up to 2,000 yen, or $12.67, according to the release.

White Beach Naval Facility, near the tip of Katsuren Peninsula, is used as a staging ground for U.S. Marines and their equipment on Okinawa, according to the Navy Region Japan website.

The 57 metre sailing yacht FLEURTJE is offering 10 days for the price of 7 out of Athens until the end of September.

This De Vries Lentsch charter yacht was built in 1960 and most recently refitted in 2005, featuring naval architecture and exterior styling by Robert Clark .

Lloyds registered, her Leila Kennedy designed interior accommodates up to 12 charter guests in six staterooms - a master suite, four double staterooms and one twin.

She carries a crew of 10 on board to tend to your every need and to ensure you experience the most unforgettable luxury yacht charter vacation imaginable.

Charter yacht Fleurtje has twin 654hp Caterpillar engines on board that give her a top speed of 14 knots, a cruising speed of 10 knots and a range of 1500 miles when under power.

She carries a range of water toys on board, including three tenders and scuba diving equipment.
