The PowerBoat Guide had this to say: The Ocean 42 Sunliner is basically an Ocean 42 Super Sport (1980–83) with a full-width aft cabin replacing the Super Sport’s cockpit. She rides on a low-deadrise, modified-V hull—an efficient bottom designed for speed and quick acceleration. The two-stateroom interior of the 42 Sunliner is arranged with the galley and dinette down and a walkaround queen bed in the master stateroom. Both heads are fit- ted with separate stall showers, and large windows provide plenty of natural lighting in the salon. As it was with all Ocean models of her era, the interior was colorfully decorated and finished with plenty of varnished teak woodwork. The 42 Sunliner came with few options. Standard equipment included a generator, garbage disposal, washer/dryer, vacuum system, instant hot water, microwave oven, and much more. Like the 42 Super Sport from which she was designed, the engine room in the Sunliner is compact with limited outboard engine access. Several diesel options were offered during her production run.

Ocean Yachts 42 SS First Glance

The original Ocean Yachts 42 Super Sport hit the market in the early ’80s and became an overnight success. It combined a large cockpit with a stable hull design, and like all Oceans the boat ran fast with relatively small engines. It also happened to be one of the better-looking boats the company ever built.

With this illustrious history in mind, I looked forward to running the new version of the 42 SS. I tested the boat in Naples, Florida, courtesy of Florida Yacht

But Tom Butz of FYS assured me that we were looking at the right one.

The new 42-footer boasts a spacious cockpit and a sumptuous interior (another Ocean trademark) in a very well proportioned package. The sleek lines that are the hallmark of Ocean Yachts’ current styling create a handsome look overall and an extremely functional design in the real world, something every Ocean Yacht possesses. This 42 represents yet another chapter in the company’s ongoing success story.

The attractive main salon with sofa and swivel chairs, HD TV and surround sound. Two heads and two showers compliment the living quarters. Her well-equipped galley offers everything needed for the cruiser, live aboard or vacation home. Mechanical systems are in good repair and her engines have low fuel consumption. The twin Detroit Diesel 4-71TI have been maintained by Detroit Diesel trained professionals.
