On July 1 st , Europe makes a new start: with the “Green Pass”, it will be possible to return to freedom of movement within the 27 countries of the European Union. Freedom, joie de vivre and escapism come with the long-awaited restart and the beginning of this year’s summer season. The desire to rediscover the pleasure of things big and small takes us back to the ambience of Dolce Vita that straddled the 1950s and ’60s, when Rome, Cortina d’Ampezzo, Portofino and Capri became the settings for the international jet set. Here in Italy, they found the right places for pure escapism, in the name of Italian style and taste.

“July 1 st is a significant date with a considerable symbolic value. It gives the green light to the recovery, to the reopening of Europe, to the return to freedom of movement and travel, and in a way to that carefree attitude typical of summer,” stated Olivier Francois, Fiat Chief Executive Officer and Stellantis CMO. “These were the precise values that inspired the creation of the new 500X Yacht Club Capri, the first “open-air” 500X, as the feeling of the wind in your hair is synonymous with freedom and happiness. The new “open-air” body makes its debut with the “Yacht Club Capri” Special Series, a tribute to a location as evocative as the Yacht Club Capri, and with the 500X Dolcevita Launch Edition.”

The 500X Yacht Club Capri adds a new body to the 500X line-up: on top of the Cross and Sport trims, the 500X now becomes “open-air” for the first time. In a few seconds and with a single push of a button, the electric soft top of the new Yacht Club Capri special series opens the 500X to the heavens. The new special series with its livery dedicated to the “Yacht Club Capri” is available in “Blue Venezia” with blue “Dolcevita” soft-top, brushed chrome mirror caps and door handles, and the Yacht Club Capri logo to cement the partnership on the B-pillar and tailgate. The line of beauty enhances the car's profile and sophistication. Also brand-new and exclusive are the 18” lightweight alloy wheels with Blue Venezia design cues. The sailing-inspired elegance and the reference to the years of the Dolce Vita can also be seen in the interior: soft touch white seats with 500 blue embroidery and as optional, a dashboard and gear knob in dark mahogany.

500X Dolcevita Launch Edition

The 500X Dolcevita Launch Edition embodies the excitement and pleasure of “open-air” driving in a prestigious launch edition. The external livery comes in Gelato White, the electric "DolceVita" soft-top is blue and the 18” alloy wheels include blue design cues, while the prestige of the interior lies in its soft touch white seats.

What's New for 2022?

A funky new cloth sunroof option joins the 500X lineup for 2022. The Al-Fresco top, as it's called, is available in black, red, and gray and adds $1000 to the bottom line for Pop, Trekking, Sport, and Trekking Plus models. A range-topping Yacht Club Capri model is now available and comes standard with the Al-Fresco top rendered in an exclusive blue cloth to match the special edition trim's Blu Venezia exterior paint. The Yacht Club Capri also comes with unique, blue-painted 18-inch wheels, satin exterior trim, ivory-colored leather upholstery, and rich wood accents on the dashboard and shift lever.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The price of the 2022 Fiat 500X starts at $29,560 and goes up to $35,540 depending on the trim and options.

There isn't much differentiation between the trim levels on the 500X. The Trekking Plus comes with a few more features than the Trekking and the Sport, but these items are optional on the lower trims. Since styling is such a big part of this crossover's appeal, we'd go for the Sport model. The Sport's available 19-inch wheels give the 500X a nice stance, and the interior details are tasteful and worth the cost over the standard Trekking model. The Comfort Group package is a good deal at $795, so we'd tack that onto our order form as well. It adds a power-adjustable driver's seat with lumbar support, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and ambient interior lighting.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

All Fiat 500X models come with a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 177 horsepower. A nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard. The all-wheel-drive system has three driver-selectable settings to optimize traction in varying conditions. All models come with 17-inch aluminum wheels, except the Sport, which has standard 18s (optional on both Trekking models) and available 19-inch wheels. Regardless of trim level, the 500X isn't the quickest crossover in this class nor is it the most fun to drive. The Fiat's suspension is comfortable for highway cruising but loses its composure on curvy back roads. If you're looking for a more entertaining SUV, we'd suggest the Kona or the CX-30.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

Fuel economy is so-so for a pint-sized crossover, as the EPA rates the Fiat 500X at 24 mpg city and 30 mpg highway. When we get a chance to take the 500X on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route, we'll update this story with test results. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

Passenger space is tight in the 500X, and the quality of its interior materials is far from the best in class. On the upside, the layout of its controls is good, and the driving position should suit a range of body shapes and sizes. It's also an attractive cabin—especially the Sport and Yacht Club Capri versions with their upgraded seats and snazzy styling details. You'll be able to fit a few bags of groceries in the Fiat 500X, but cargo capacity is low—even for a subcompact SUV—with just 14 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 32 cubic feet when they're folded.

Infotainment and Connectivity

A 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment interface with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility is standard in every Fiat 500X. The Trekking Plus also includes a factory navigation system; it's optional on the Sport. An upgraded Beats audio system is optional on Sport and Trekking trims. Every 500X has two USB charge ports at the bottom of the center stack.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Selecting the Advanced Driver Assistance Group package adds a suite of driver-assistance features such as adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. This package is optional on the Trekking, Sport, and Trekking Plus models. For more information about the 500X's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ( NHTSA ) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety ( IIHS ) websites. Key safety features include:

• Available adaptive cruise control with automated emergency braking
• Available blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts
• Available lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Fiat offers solid limited warranty coverage, but the 500X's powertrain warranty is skimpy. Most rivals offer five-year/60,000-mile coverage, while the Kona tops the class with its 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain guarantee.

2022 Fiat 500X gets Yacht Club Capri special edition

Could be a healthy price increase on the way as well.

Fifteen years ago, Fiat released a product roadmap identifying 10 new models to appear between 2007 and 2010 that would join seven extant models across Europe and the U.S. Today, Fiat's home market of Italy only sells five models, three of them versions of the 500, and the U.S. has just one, the 500X . As for that model, it sold 1,443 units here in 2020; based on the 980 sales through the end of September this year, Fiat won't even reach that abysmal mark. Yet the show must go on, so Fiat's got two touches of flair in store for the 2022 500X. Starting small, there will be an "Al-Fresco" retractable fabric roof available for all trims. To ensure the sprezzatura a 500X driver demands, the top can be had in four colors , three of them being black, gray, or red. 

The last color, blue, is reserved for the bigger news: A new Yacht Club Capri trim, a special edition model that is also blue. The model is named for the island of Capri, not far from Naples, Italy, and the numerous yachts that stop in there. Based on the penultimate Sport trim, it comes awash in Venenzia blue paint and sits on 18-inch wheels with Venezia blue accents outside, and gets Yacht Club Capri badging. Inside, Ivory leather seats with blue piping face an instrument panel with a woodgrain insert and shift lever given a satin finish. In other markets this same model is known as the Yachting Collector's Edition and is also available on the two-door all-electric 500, the build allotment limited to 500 numbered units. Fiat didn't mention limited production for the U.S.

Every 500X is powered by a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 177 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque sending power to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic.

Fiat hasn't officially released pricing, but based on information found on auto pricing sites, it appears the automaker could have a $680 price increase in mind. Fiat says the current four trims will carry over, Pop, Trekking, Sport, and Trekking Plus. According to the info we found, only three are priced so far. Tentative pricing for 2022, including the whopping $1,495 destination charge, is:

The Surprisingly Still Alive 2022 Fiat 500X Debuts New Yacht Club Capri Special Edition

Fiat sells many cars in Europe, especially the popular 500X . However, the automaker usually performs poorly in the United States, selling less than 1,000 cars this year. Of course, it doesn’t help that the automaker has drastically limited its U.S. lineup to a single model: the 500X.

A Stellantis press release welcomes the latest model with the debut of a new Yacht Club Capri special edition trim. Why is the Fiat 500X still around, and what’s new for 2022?

A brief history of the Fiat 500X

The Fiat 500X was originally released in 2014, but it wouldn’t debut in the U.S. until its 2016 model year. Although it has the same underpinnings as a Jeep Renegade, it’s intended to be more of a stylish commuter vehicle. It was available with either a turbocharged or naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine upon release, as well as optional AWD.

According to Kelley Blue Book , a new 2016 Fiat 500X was priced around $21,000 for the base trim. That’s an average price for the segment, though it only came with a handful of standard features. The 2021 Fiat 500X costs a little over $26,000, but at least that now includes standard smartphone integration.

The subcompact SUV class has boomed in recent years, which is likely the only reason the 500X is still here in the States. It’s also hard to find one in the segment that offers a turbocharged engine and AWD. However, the Fiat 500X is still panned by American critics, who cite its horrible drive quality and uncomfortable seats.

The latest Fiat 500X now only has one engine option, a turbocharged four-cylinder capable of 177 horsepower. It’s paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and makes an estimated 30 mpg combined city/highway rating. AWD comes standard, complete with three drive modes that provide more traction in hazardous conditions.

The Fiat 500X has four trims, each slightly different from the rest. For example, the Trekking model has silver exterior accents, while the Sport trim features Alcantara seat inserts. Four kinds of upholstery are on offer, including premium ivory-colored leather.

All models come standard with smartphone integration and a 7-inch touchscreen. Stellantis boasts that the newest Uconnect system has been tweaked to allow for faster startup times, higher resolution, and more processing power. Higher trims also feature a premium Beats audio system with a subwoofer, and up to 75 safety features are available.

For 2022, drivers can have a retractable fabric roof with four color options. The Fiat 500X Yacht Club Capri special edition model is the only one that can have a blue fabric roof. This model is only available in Venezia Blue and includes 18-inch sport wheels, a satin-robed gearshift, and a faux-woodgrain dash.

A look back at some forgotten Fiat models

In Europe, Fiat currently carries eight models, some of which used to be sold in the States. The Fiat 500, a slimmer and underpowered version of the 500X, only recently left us in 2019. The Fiat 500L, described as a “compact minivan,” only had six years on our side of the globe. There was also the Fiat 500e, though it wasn’t available nationwide. It was never a big hit due to its slow powertrain (maxing out at 111 horsepower) and subpar electric driving range (155 miles).

The Fiat 124 Spider was only available in the U.S. from 2017 to 2020. While it had fun handling and a decently peppy engine, it only produced around 164 hp and couldn’t keep up with rival sports cars. Some Fiat SUVs never even made it stateside, including the cutesy Panda.

The Tipo sedan has been relatively popular since its release in 2015, and the Doblo van is currently in its second generation. Sadly, it’s already hard enough for the 500X to establish its place in the United States. As such, we may never see another Fiat vehicle get a stateside release, even with the Yacht Club Capri’s appeal.

For 2022, the 500X gets a unique Yacht Club Capri special edition model, which is based on the Sport trim. Named after the famed Italian sailing club that was formed in 1999, the 500X Yacht Club Capri adds a unique look, blended with an open-air sailing theme.

No, the 2022 Fiat 500X is not a good subcompact SUV . It does have some upsides, including a user-friendly infotainment system, a stylish interior, and zippy acceleration. However, its downsides overshadow them. This Fiat’s seats would benefit from additional cushioning, the back row is short on space, and its fuel economy estimates are poor. Also, you'll have to bypass the base trim to get a more substantial amount of safety features. And while the 500X has agile driving dynamics, its harsh ride over uneven pavement makes it less enjoyable to drive than most of the competition.

The 500X's Italian accents help give it more personality than most rivals in the class. Inside, you'll find body-color accents and rounded control knobs. There are some low-quality plastics, but the cabin is nice overall.

500X Infotainment, Bluetooth, and Navigation

The Fiat 500X's Uconnect infotainment system includes a touch screen that is straightforward to operate and surrounded by physical controls for audio and climate functions. There are a couple of downsides, though. You may find the display to be too small and slow to respond to inputs.

The 500X's 14.1 cubic feet of space behind the back row and 39.8 cubic feet when you fold down the back seats is small, even for this class. Subcompact SUVs like the Kia Soul and Honda HR-V are significantly more spacious.

How Many People Does the 500X Seat?

The Fiat 500X has seating for up to five people. There's plenty of space in the front row, but the seat padding is pretty firm. The back row isn’t very roomy and is best reserved for children. You shouldn't have any issues with seeing out of the front and sides of the vehicle, but rear visibility isn't as good because of thick roof pillars.

The windy Russian autumn weather might be a little bit tricky for sailing, but it doesn’t stop brave yachtsmen from all over the world from flocking to Russian capital in the beginning of September when the Moscow Yacht Show commences. The main Russian Yacht exhibition gathers professional and amateur yacht lovers together under the wing of The Royal Yacht Club.

This year it took place for a fourth time already. The exhibition is considered the principal event on the sporting and social calendar. The Moscow Yacht Show 2010 united in one area three of the largest Russian yachts distributors: Ultramarine, Nordmarine and Premium Yachts.

A wide range of yachts were on display for a week. An exhibition showcased yachts both from Russian manufacturers and world famous brands: Azimut, Princess, Ferretti, Pershing, Riviera, Doral, Linssen, etc.

It was a real feast for seafarers as visitors of the show had a unique chance not only to take a look at the newest superyachts before they hit the market, but also to evaluate their driving advantages during the test drive. The show provided an excellent opportunity for yacht enthusiasts to choose and buy a new boat for the next season.

The event started with the grandiose gala evening. It included grand dinner, the concert and professional awards ceremony for achievements in Russian yachting industry. The guests also enjoyed the annual regatta.

Special guest Paolo Vitelli, Azimut Benetti Group president, opened the evening.

Next year organizers assured guests they would bring more yachts, the scale of which will even make oligarch Roman Abramovich envious. Sounds very promising indeed.
