Creole Queen vs Steamboat Natchez

The Creole Queen

There are a few small differences between the Steamboat Natchez and the Creole Queen. From an outside look, you might think they are the same, but they are not. Both are great boat rides in New Orleans with dinner options, but the boats themselves are different.

The Creole Queen is powered by a diesel-electric motor and made its maiden voyage in 1983. This motor is used to operate the paddle wheel at the back of the boat. The Natchez is a steamboat. This means that a steam engine powers the paddle wheel at the rear of the boat.

The Nanchez is one of only a few boats that is still powered by steam. The Nanchez was built in 1975 and has transported famous musicians and important political figures. You can even find a small museum aboard the Natchez.

Both the Creole Queen and the Steamboat Natchez are boats with great history and insight. The two boats have much more in common than they do in differences. You will learn a lot and can eat great food on either boat.

The differences between the two should not cause any disappointment if you happen to ride on one and not the other. No matter what New Orleans river cruise you find yourself on, you will have a blast.

Creole Queen Parking

There is no designated parking for any of the Riverboats in New Orleans. This does not mean there is no parking; it means you will have to pay for parking at some of the paid parking or street parking options at or near the French Quarter.

We parked in the parking lot that is next to the aquarium, and it is only a short walk from there. The parking lot by the aquarium is also a great place to park if you are going to spend time after your short Mississippi River cruise.

Tips for Your Creole Queen Boat Tours in New Orleans

Band performing Jazz music during our Steamboat Natchez Boat Tour

1. Get in Line Early: We were there about 35 minutes early for our tour, and it was not early enough. There was a huge line. It is recommended to be in line 30 minutes before the scheduled boarding time. This means you should be at the boat 1 hour before departure.

2. Be in Line First: There is not enough outdoor seating for everyone. If you are at the front of the line for boarding, you will have more options for outdoor seating. If you want to hear the jazz music, you will want to grab some chairs on the top deck. There is only one band on the top deck. Some people had expectations of a band on each deck, and this is not an option. The band plays on the top deck, and the music can be heard on the lower decks from the speakers.

3. There is no outside food or drink allowed on the boat, even if you don’t have a reservation for the Creole Queen brunch, lunch, or dinner. Get the Creole Queen dinner Cruise option if it is available. It is worth it.

4. If you are going on the tour with kids, bring a couple of little toys to entertain them while on the river boat tour. The tour can feel a little long if you do not eat on the boat. It is a relaxing cruise, and kids don’t often like to just relax.

5. The upper deck is where most of the action is if you want to relax less. It can also be a bit more crowded. This is because the live band is on the upper deck, and they have an upper deck bar close by.

Compliance status

Screen-reader and keyboard navigation.

  • Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all of the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website. These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
  • Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside of it.Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

  • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
  • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
  • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
  • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
  • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Moskva River

As with many great capitals around the world, Moscow features a large river which cuts through the city and which provides the perfect backdrop for this incredible capital. For many years this river was the mode of transportation and the source of life for the city, in recent years it has become the spot for viewing the city and for enjoying the scenery of this great destination.

It rises about 90 miles west of Moscow, and flows roughly east through the Smolensk and Moscow Oblasts, passing through central Moscow. Let’s take a deeper look into this majestic river.

The name Moskva actually means Moscow and whilst the name of the city changed in the eyes of the world, the name of the river remained the same. What many don’t know is that the city is actually named after the river, and the origin of Moskva is unknown although there are many theories.

As of 2007, there are an incredible 49 bridges which stretch across the Moskva River and its canals within Moscow city limits; the first stone bridge, Bolshoi Kamennyi Bridge, was actually erected in 1692. Within the city, the river is 120–200 metres wide, and the narrowest point of the river is right underneath the Kremlin walls .

Drinking Water

Much of the city actually drink water from the river. There are five stations on the river, in the Upper Volga reservoirs, where water is collected and then piped to the city as potable water.

There are a number of islands which can be found on the wider parts of the river. These are some of the most notable which have been separated from the mainland or which were formed from canals.

Entertainment

Entertainment on the river includes cruises and some sporting events. During the winter there are many parts of the river which freeze entirely and this brings a great number of thrill seekers to the water, who attempt to walk all the way across over the ice. As risky as this sounds, the ice is usually at least a meter deep, removing much of the risk.
