Below deck: everything to know about charter guest erica rose.

Erica Rose made a splash as a Below Deck Sailing Yacht charter guest. Learn more about her life before the popular nautical reality show.

  • Seasoned captain Glenn Shephard and crew were unsure if they would go through with the charter after crashing the boat twice.
  • Erica Rose, known for her appearance on The Bachelor, is now a lawyer and a partner at the Rose Sanders Law Firm.
  • Erica and her friends made quite an impression on Below Deck Sailing Yacht, bringing drama and excitement to the show.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2 introduced charter guest Erica Rose, and it's time to learn more about her. She joined the Parsafil crew alongside several friends to enjoy a mini-getaway in Croatia. However, the crew was getting annoyed with her and her friends, as they were more demanding than the crew expected. Second stewardess Dani even had to give one of the guests a massage because she felt stressed out due to being on a yacht 24/7, surrounded by her friends. As fans await Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 , previous charter guests should be revisited.

Before Erica and her group of girlfriends joined the yacht, seasoned captain Glenn Shephard and the rest of the crew were unsure if they would go through with the charter after crashing the boat twice. While Captain Glenn was parking the yacht by the dock, a mechanical error occurred that short-circuited the thrusters. This caused him to crash into the pier. Luckily, no one was hurt, but a significant amount of cosmetic damage was done to the back of the boat. However, Erica Rose and her friends were able to board the Parsifal. The drama on Below Deck Sailing Yacht is just one of the reasons all the shows in the franchise are some of the best reality TV shows .

Erica Rose Was On The Bachelor

Before Erica Rose was known as the second to last charter guest on Below Deck Sailing Yacht , she was known as a contestant on The Bachelor . Erica competed on The Bachelor season 9 in 2006. Prince Lorenzo Borghese was the leading man during that season. The lawyer exited the limo wearing a bejeweled tiara to prove to the Prince that she was ready to become his princess. However, Erica was not destined to be his princess, as she was eliminated after three weeks. Soon after being eliminated, Erica appeared on the first season of the VH1 reality series You're Cut Off! and later starred in two seasons of the now-canceled The Bachelor spin-off, Bachelor Pad (via Distractify ).

Erica Rose Is A Lawyer

Since her early days as a reality star, Erica has started a family and grown her career as a lawyer. After she left The Bachelor , she attended the University of Houston Law Center for four years and later obtained her Master's Degree in Entertainment Law from Southwestern Law School. Erica and her now-husband, Charles Sanders, are partners at the Rose Sanders Law Firm PLLC. Before she found love with Charles, she was engaged to fellow lawyer Galen Gentry. They welcomed a daughter, Holland Rose Madelaine Gentry, born in September 2016. After she married Charles in 2017, the couple welcomed their daughter, Aspen Rose Sanders.

Erica may have moved on from her The Bachelor days, but she still enjoys being on camera. Her time on Below Deck Sailing Yacht may have ended, but she and her friends made quite an impression on the show. Hopefully, there will be equally exciting games in seasons to come.

We Have an Update on That Stained White Couch from Below Deck Sailing Yacht

Colin MacRae recalls this Season 3 charter as being "f--king horrendous."

below deck sailing yacht charter guest erica rose

In an episode of Below Deck Sailing Yacht full of jaw-dropping moments ( charter guest Chuck's dissatisfaction with his omelette , Marcos Spaziani 's head injury, Daisy Kelliher and Gary King 's hot tub makeout session ), one burning question tops them all: Is the couch OK?

How to Watch

Watch Below Deck Sailing Yacht on Peacock and the Bravo app .

The sofa in question is, of course, that white couch in the Parsifal III 's saloon that was stained with self-tanner while the charter guests were waiting to go on their beach picnic in the March 14 episode  (clip above). "Oh my god. Accidents happen, but you know, it was a kind of dumb thing to do," Captain Glenn Shephard said in an interview during the episode. "The couch is probably worth 50 grand, so that's just stupid."

Captain Glenn and Ashley Marti tried to clean the couch with a carpet cleaner while the charter guests were off the boat at their beach picnic, but with no luck. With the couch still stained and all signs pointing to co-primary charter guest Cindi being the culprit, Captain Glenn brought the issue to her attention as the group prepared to disembark the Parsifal III the next day. "When a primary charters a boat, they're responsible for any significant damage done to the boat," Captain Glenn said in an interview during the episode. "Having that conversation before they leave, it's never fun. It's always a little bit awkward, but you have to do it."

Catch Up on BDSY Season 3 in the Free Bravo App!

Cindi took it well, although she denied being the person responsible for the stain. "I'm gonna take care of whatever the problem was," Cindi told Captain Glenn as the charter came to a close. "I don't care who did it. I'll take care of it."

"We'll figure it out," Captain Glenn told Cindi in response.

Luckily, the Parsifal III crew was able to get the stain out for the most part later that day after Captain Glenn and Daisy used a cleaning product and the carpet cleaner on it. "I mean, it looks 1,000 times better," Daisy told Captain Glenn, who noted that there was still a water stain on the couch.

Daisy and Captain Glenn resolved to work on getting the couch in ship shape the next day since the crew was getting ready for their night off in the episode. But we're happy to report that the couch is back to being presentable. Gary and Daisy made a virtual appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on March 14, and the first mate appeared remotely from aboard the Parsifal III . "Yeah, I'm sitting in the saloon," Gary confirmed during the WWHL After Show (clip below). "We pick up our charter on Thursday."

Daisy then pointed out that Gary was sitting in front of "the stain[ed] couch." "Yeah, the stain[ed] couch," Gary said with a laugh. "It's f--king right here. I can't even believe it."

Gary and Daisy dished more on the latest group of charter guests on WWHL , including Cindi channeling Marilyn Monroe for Captain Glenn during the decades-themed dinner. "Cindi, the Marilyn Monroe rendition was the cringiest thing I've ever had to witness in my life," Gary said during the WWHL After Show . "I think Glenn felt the same way. Oh my god."

Earlier on WWHL , Daisy also said that this group of charter guests was "pretty awful." And receiving that tip, which was a disappointing amount, according to the Parsifal III crew, "was an interesting experience" for Daisy.

Erica Rose's charter group also left quite a lasting impression on Colin MacRae , who spoke to The Daily Dish about these guests earlier this month. "It was one of the more unpleasant charters we did," Colin said before adding, "That charter with Erica Rose was f--king horrendous. And they came on just so disrespectful. I felt really bad for Daisy. It was awful. And Erica’s husband is not a very nice human being, in my opinion."

Colin also came to Marcos' defense following Chuck's criticism of his cooking . "He’s the best chef I’ve ever worked with in 14 years on super yachts, and I’ve worked with some really top quality chefs," Colin said. "So, yeah, what Erica’s husband was saying about his food was just outrageous."

Erica Rose on Her Second 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' Experience and Her Husband's Omelette Drama (EXCLUSIVE)

Shannon Raphael - Author

Mar. 14 2022, Published 12:39 p.m. ET

The third season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht is in full swing, and the drama with the guests is just as compelling as what's going on with the crew.

After their first charter became the most-talked-about one of the spinoff's second season, reality star Erica Rose and her mom, Cindi Rose, returned to Parsifal III in the hopes that they would have a more satisfactory experience by getting a "higher level of service."

While Captain Glenn Shephard and First Mate Gary King were mostly amused at the prospect of Erica and Cindi returning, Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher quickly made her disappointment known when she referred to the charter group as "disrespectful, exhausting, emotionally draining," and "unpredictable."

Though Cindi and Erica did return, the rest of their group was new to Parsifal III . The Bachelor alum's husband, Charles "Chuck" Sanders, two friends, and another couple made their Below Deck Sailing Yacht debut on the March 7 episode.

With Erica and Cindi's new group of guests and a mostly new crew, there was hope that things would go more smoothly than they did in Season 2. However, it didn't take long for the charter to go off the rails (or sails, so to speak).

Since the first part of their charter is getting a lot of attention online, Erica spoke with Distractify to clear up a few misconceptions about what happened, and to discuss why her second time on the show wasn't a "pleasant experience." Plus, she also shared why she was surprised by Daisy's strong reaction to her return.

Erica Rose on returning to 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' with her husband, Charles Sanders, and the omelette drama.

Though her first charter wasn't fully up to her standards, Erica said that she wanted to return to the show in Season 3 because her daughters were a bit older, she was feeling more confident with herself, and she thought that there would be less drama if she brought her husband along, instead of doing another girls' trip. She was hopeful that it would be a more "positive experience" the second time around — but things didn't exactly go to plan.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Erica Rose 🌹 Sanders (@ericatherose)

"I really did not come in with a dramatic intention," Erica said to Distractify , before adding that most of the drama came from her husband and her mom.

"People are kind of blaming me for it. To me, that's a little unfair, because you can only control your own actions. Of course, I can never control my mom, and I can't control my husband either," she added. "And this was his first time on reality TV."

Because she had raved to her husband about Chef Natasha de Bourg's food after her first stint on Parsifal III (and Erica and Charles had actually eaten the chef's food several times after the show), Erica realized that they would be "picky" about new Chef Marcos Spaziani's meals, since he has a completely different cooking style.

At the end of the March 7 episode, ahead of their beach brunch, Charles ordered an omelette from the chef. He sent back the first one because it had tomatoes, and was ultimately unsatisfied with the chef's second egg offering. Charles went on to say that he was "disgusted" by the breakfast, and that he had eaten "better food at the ballpark."

Charles "Chuck" Sanders and Erica Rose Sanders

"There was no need for Chuck to be that dramatic about eggs. I've seen him eat a lot grosser things before... It was a bit much," Erica said about her husband's strong reaction at the end of the episode. "I don't think it's funny, I don't think it captures who he is. I don't think he would do that if it wasn't a television show."

Erica said that her husband, who is also her law partner at Rose Sanders PLLC, played it up for the cameras. Charles, who majored in theatre in college, took the experience as a pseudo-acting role (though Erica noted that nothing was scripted, she did say that guests are encouraged to vocalize their complaints).

"It was his moment in the sun," Erica said about Charles' reality TV debut. "I was just in a good place and I wanted to be peaceful compared to last time, but he's his own person. That's just what he felt like doing. And he's excited by it."

Though Erica and Charles have received many negative comments on social media about their Below Deck Sailing Yacht appearance, the latter spouse is choosing to solely look at the positive — which is that their law firm is getting a lot of searches online.

Erica herself gets why viewers are saying certain things about her group, but she thinks that they should keep in mind that the yachties themselves are often looking to engage in the drama, too.

"People also have to remember that these are not just people who work on yachts... These people are also reality stars. They're feeding off of the drama too," Erica said. "The producers don't just take yacht employees, like they look for a cast that is going to play into stuff, make good ratings, etc."

The lawyer touched on Daisy's "animosity," and whether she would do another charter on Parsifal III.

Erica's initial Below Deck Sailing Yacht experience may have fallen short, but she thought that she'd left the vessel on positive terms with Daisy the first time around. The two even interacted with one another on social media a few times after filming, so Erica was surprised when she heard what Daisy had to say about her and her husband on the show, and in her confessionals.

"We did keep in touch throughout, and I have no idea where the animosity came from," Erica shared.

Daisy called Charles "uncultured, unmannered, [and] untraveled" in her interview chair, and she had a strong message for him in the closing seconds of the March 7 episode.

"Chuck, go f--k yourself," Daisy said about the lawyer.

The You're Cut Off star knew that Daisy had said things about her first charter being high-maintenance, but she thought that it was because of her group, not her.

"I just really didn't anticipate negativity because Daisy wasn't personally negative at me the first time. She said our group of friends was a lot to handle, and I totally understand that," Erica added. "But I didn't expect the personal attacks."

Though Erica's Season 3 charter is continuing to be a hot topic of conversation, her second appearance on the show will likely be her last.

"Definitely not on the sailing yacht, no..." Erica said about whether she would return to Below Deck Sailing Yacht in the future. "It wasn't a very pleasant experience. I just 100 percent wouldn't do that one again."

New episodes of Below Deck Sailing Yacht air on Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on Bravo. You can also stream the series on Peacock.

Exclusive: Below Deck Sailing Yacht charter guest Erica Rose sets the record straight on Daisy Kelliher drama

Erica Rose opens up to Monsters & Critics about things Daisy has said on Below Deck Sailing Yacht.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht charter guest Erica Rose has set the record straight on the Daisy Kelliher drama unfolding off-screen.

Erica returned to Below Deck Sailing Yacht for her second stint this week. She was joined by her husband Charles Sanders, mom Cindi Rose, and friends aboard Parsifal III.

Monsters & Critics had the opportunity to speak to Erica after her first episode aired, where she opened up about the things Daisy was saying about her.

Erica Rose sets the record straight on Daisy Kelliher drama

Erica revealed she and Daisy kept in touch after her Season 2 appearance on Below Deck Sailing Yacht through social media. They weren’t best friends, but Erica did recall Daisy reaching out after Erica lost some weight to compliment her.

“I’m not saying we were close friends, but one of those like casual, keeping in touch things,” Erica shared.

Even when Erica and her group were filming, Erica didn’t suspect that Daisy didn’t like her. Although she did feel like Daisy’s vibe was different the second time around, Erica was in the dark about Daisy’s true feelings until recently.

Erica first learned something was wrong when Daisy blocked her on Instagram.

“I thought that was really weird. Like, I wonder what’s going on?” she expressed. “That was before the episode even aired. It was like right before the season premiered. Once the season premiered, they kept plugging our episode, like our charter, you know, at the end of every episode. And then I saw an interview come out because, you know, I get Google search engine alerts, especially with our law firm. The first article came out that it was like she was dreading our charter, and they started slowly releasing that.”

The reality TV personality admitted that Daisy did keep in touch with other guests despite what Daisy said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. Erica spilled she knows the chief stew kept touch with some of the other ladies from her charter.

“So, she was blatantly lying to say she didn’t keep in touch with people,” she stated.

Erica went on to admit Daisy didn’t block her on Twitter, alluding to her still wanting to be in touch. However, Erica feels Daisy blocking her on Instagram was strategic to prevent Erica from “coming with receipts” that they had exchanged messages previously.

As for why Daisy’s attitude changed toward Erica, The Bachelor alum has no idea, but it was a shocker.

“I don’t know why her attitude changed with me, truly, but it was definitely surprising to me. I don’t think I would have come back if she had expressed it because going into it, I knew that Daisy and Gary and Colin and Captain Glenn were the only ones returning,” Erica shared.

The blonde beauty learned about the returning crew members from chef Natasha De Bourg, with whom Erica has remained friendly since Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2.

Erica would not have returned for Season 3 had she known Daisy’s true feelings about her.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Erica Rose ? Sanders (@ericatherose)

How were things between Erica and Daisy during Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3 filming?

As mentioned above, Erica had no idea the animosity Daisy had towards her until the chief stew started doing interviews and tweeted about Erica during the most recent episode.

Erica opened up about filming, sharing the vibe she got from Daisy.

“She wasn’t super friendly, but at the same time, she is a professional at her job. So she wasn’t like she wasn’t going to walk around being rude,” Erica said.

It’s a reality show, and things are edited out. One thing Erica revealed was edited out was that when Daisy asked if Erica wanted someone to unpack, Erica replied, “Only if it’s not going to be a problem.” However, the scene came across as Erica requesting someone to unpack for her.

To set the record straight, Erica does pack her things when she goes on a family vacation. She doesn’t expect it to be done for her.

Erica admitted that Daisy was very good at her job, checking in on them and even taking pictures with the group.

“She’s very good at pretending to be nice to other people, and then doing things behind people’s back. And so, I guess I would have liked it more, and she probably couldn’t because of her job but if she would have shown me any indication that she was unhappy or, you know, just out of respect, instead of doing it all behind my back,” Erica expressed about Daisy’s feelings toward her.

The simple fact is, Erica wished Daisy would have kept it real. Erica referenced Allie Dore from Season 2, whom Erica admitted she could read and declared the stew never hid her feelings.

“I respect it more when someone is transparent,” she explained.

Erica Rose from Below Deck Sailing Yacht has set the record straight on the drama chief stew Daisy Kelliher.

The charter guest isn’t sure if Daisy’s actions were encouraged or if Daisy truly feels that way about her. What Erica does wish is that the chief stew would have been honest with her.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Mondays at 8/7c on Bravo.

guest

Might want to watch Daisy’s Instagram show to get the real story. I don’t believe a word that comes out of Erica’s mouth. She’s known to be difficult to deal with and two faced since her days on The Bachelor. Just giving her version of things doesn’t make the article very believable.

James

You mean she wanted to be told how awful her behavior and especially her dorky husband’s were perceived. He seemed like an addict.

RB

Why would Daisy be happy to see such slobs return to the yacht? Both you and your husband are disrespectful and rude.

Anastasia Beaverhousin

It’s B.S. she’s deflecting because she and her husband look like the vial nouveau riche scum bags they are money doesn’t buy class but it sure as hell makes feel like you can show your ass!!!!!

Why Below Deck's Familiar New Stew Is Already Starting Drama

Originally appeared on E! Online

A bombshell new yachtie is rocking the boat on Below Deck .

After Stew Cat Baugh left the St. David due to personal issues, the crew met her season 11 replacement: Stew Paris Field , who just so happened to be a familiar face to Chief Stew Fraser Olender .

"Oh my god, I can't believe it's you!" Fraser said of Paris' arrival on the April 8 episode before explaining in a confessional, "I know who Paris is. She is the ex of one of my very dear friends."

The Below Deck alum in question? Season nine Lead Deckhand Jake Foulger .

After the Perth native joined the group at dinner, many of the male crewmembers immediately took notice of Paris' good looks. And, yes, she plans to wave waves this season.

"I'm outgoing, funny and I love mayonnaise," Paris shared in a confessional. "I definitely say what's on my mind, I think because I don't have any serotonin or any happiness left so I just wanna stir the pot and regain some of that happiness back through people's suffering. That's not really true, I'm not evil. I promise."

The Most Dramatic Below Deck Firings Ever

Paris' arrival put Deckhand Sunny Marquis on the defensive as she worried the Stew's presence could threaten her boatmance with Lead Deckhand Ben Willoughby .

"I'm definitely a little bit jealous," Sunny noted in a confessional. "Now there's a drop-dead gorgeous blonde coming in, she's from Australia, they've got things in common together. I definitely feel a little worried about what Ben thinks of her."

The next day, Deckhand Dylan Pierre De Villiers attempted some not-so-smooth flirting with Paris during a beach day on the crew's day off.

"It's very funny that you're named Paris and you're from Australia," he told her. "You should have been called crocodile or crocs or something. You look like that girl that would wear Crocs though. Do you like Steve Irwin ?"

Paris responded to Dylan's advances with one word: cringe.

"Dylan's gorgeous, but f--k he's so awkward," she said in a confessional. "Personality wise? A three. If he was mute, I think he'd get a lot more action."

And when Ben joined the two and began touching Paris' arm, Sunny took note of the PDA.

"The guy I'm dating touching another woman makes me feel uncomfortable to be honest," she admitted. "Uncomfortable and angry. Mad disrespect."

Plus, in a preview for the April 15 episode, it seems Ben's flirting with Paris continues, leading to a confrontation between him and Sunny. As she told him in the sneak peek, "That's not cool, you just look like an a--hole. That is just not OK, Ben."

See the drama play out when Below Deck airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on Bravo. And keep reading to look back at some of the wildest charter guests to ever board the mega-yacht.

Moscow - Russian Rivers and Waterways Port of Call

below deck sailing yacht charter guest erica rose

Moscow is a wonderful city to visit, and travelers on river ship cruise tours to or from St. Petersburg spend a few days in Moscow . This capital city of Russia was our last port on a river cruise tour, and we had about four days to see most of the highlights. Our first day we did an overview driving tour and rode the subway under the Mockba (Moscow) River to Red Square. The next day we toured the State Armory and the Kremlin.

These photos show some of the other highlights you can see with three or four days in Moscow .

The Northern River Terminal is located on the Moscow Canal in the northwest section of Moscow at the Khimki Reservoir.

Most river cruise ships sailing between Moscow and St. Petersburg use the ship as a hotel while in Moscow. Because of traffic, it's often a long drive into the city, but the sights along the way are interesting, and you only have to unpack once for the river cruise.

View of Downtown Moscow from Sparrow Hills

Sparrow Hills is the best place to get a great panoramic view of Moscow. The Sparrow Hills overlook the Mockba River and are near Moscow State University.

Novodevichy Convent in Moscow

Novodevichy Convent in Moscow was founded in 1524, and was once used as a sort of prison for the unwanted wives and sisters of the Tsars. Peter the Great sent both his first wife and his sister to Novodevichy. Since the convent had such famous nuns, it was very wealthy due to the many donations of the Tsars and their families. At one time in the 1700s, the cloister had over 36,000 serfs working in 36 villages. Novodevichy was ravaged by the French armies in 1812, but the brave nuns saved the buildings by disarming the fuses set to blow them up. The Soviets wanted to make the convent into a museum in the early 1920s, but it was again saved.

Novodevichy also has a cemetery with the graves of many famous Russians, including Nikita Khrushchev, Anton Chekhov, Raisa Gorbachev, and Yuri Nikulin.

View of the Mockba River in Moscow, Russia

The Mockba (Moscow) River runs into the Volga via the 79.5 mile long Moscow Canal.

River ships sailing between Moscow and St. Petersburg on the Baltic Waterways embark and disembark at the Northern River Terminal about an hour's drive from the city. The drive time can vary significantly in length because of the heavy Moscow traffic. The river looks peaceful here, as it winds around the cosmopolitan area of Moscow.

Cathedral of Christ the Redeemer (Cathedral of Christ the Savior) in Moscow

The Cathedral of Christ the Redeemer, also known as the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, is the largest church in Russia, holding 10,000 worshipers.

The original Cathedral of Christ the Savior was built over 44 years to celebrate the 1812 victory over Napoleon. It was completed in 1883. Stalin had the church destroyed in 1931, but it was rebuilt using mostly private funds in 1999. The new church is a replica of the original. Note that it took 44 years the first time and only 4 years the second to complete the church! Isn't modern technology impressive.

One interesting tidbit is that it took three attempts to blow up the church in 1931. Stalin planned to build a huge Palace of the Soviets on the cleared land, but engineers determined that the land was too boggy. In the 60 years intervening, the space was used for a variety of things, including a year-round swimming pool!

Vendors' Market and Ski Jump at Sparrow Hills in Moscow

The panoramic view of Moscow from Sparrow Hills is a stopover for most tour groups, so we were not surprised to see a large number of vendors. The ski jump was a surprise, but Moscow gets very cold in winter, so winter sports are very popular. This ski jump is near Moscow State University and has a great view of the city. Seeing this ski jump reminded me of the famous Holmenkollen Ski Jump in Oslo, which also has a great view of that northern capital city.

Russian Soldiers' Memorial in Victory Park in Moscow

Matryoshka dolls for sale in moscow.

I thought this display of dolls was beautiful! The Matryoshka nesting dolls range in price from just a few dollars to thousands of dollars.

Central Museum of Armed Forces in Moscow, Russia

This small band greeted us at the Central Museum of Armed Forces in Moscow. They played a variety of band music and made us all feel very welcome.

Grand Triumphal Arch Celebrates the Victory Over Napoleon in the War of 1812

This arch looks a little like the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, and it is located near the Victory Park Metro Station in Moscow.

This Grand Triumphal Arch is decorated with the coats of arms from the 48 Russian provinces. To celebrate the victory over France in the war of 1812, it also includes bas-reliefs of the "Expulsion of the French." The arch was originally built in 1834, but has only been on this site since 1968.

It is a little ironic that this arch resembles the Paris Arc de Triomphe , which Napoleon built between 1806 and 1836 to celebrate his French victories.

Moscow Metro Station at the Ploshchad Revolyutsii (Revolution Square)

This station near Red Square has many statues honoring the workers of Russia.

Moscow Metro Station near Victory Park

The Metro in Moscow is one of its shining industrial achievements. Construction on the Metro was begun in 1931 and continues today. The system has over 165 stations and 155 miles of track. Over 9300 trains, traveling sometimes as fast as 56 mph, navigate the huge system each day. Almost 10 million people ride the Moscow Metro every day, which is more than the New York and London systems combined. We found the Metro to be very efficient, with trains arriving every few minutes.

Navigating the Metro system can be somewhat of a problem for non-Russian speaking riders. Most of the signage is in Cyrillic only, and the stations are quite large. Trying to find the correct exit while walking long distances underground can be challenging.

On our cruise tour, we rode the Metro as a group with our program director from near Victory Park under the Mockba River to Red Square. Several of the group ventured out on their own during our time in Moscow, and many rode the Metro. They all returned with stories of getting lost underground, but none seemed the worse for the experience, and they all loved telling the tales.

Red Square in Moscow

Red Square in Moscow is a must-see for visitors to the capital city of Russia.

The Kremlin in Moscow, Russia

The Kremlin is a favorite of Moscow tourists. Inside these walls are buildings for the government of Russia, cathedrals, and the wonderful State Armory museum.

Taras Bulba Restaurant in Moscow

We enjoyed a traditional Ukrainian lunch at this cute restaurant in Moscow before checking in at our hotel.

Buses Wait for Passengers Outside Museum

River cruise tour groups are usually divided into groups for the duration of the tour. Each group had their own bus when touring.

Military Airplanes at the Central Museum of Armed Forces in Moscow, Russia

Although much of the military museum was indoors, there was quite a collection of planes, helicopters, missile launchers, and tanks outside.

Foreign Ministry Building, One of Moscow's Seven Stalinist-Gothic Skyscrapers

Seven skyscrapers with layers giving them a "wedding cake" appearance dot the Moscow skyline. The style is considered Stalinist-Gothic.

Russian and American War Veterans at the Central Museum of Armed Forces

Meeting with some World War II Russian War veterans was a highlight of our day at the Central Museum of Armed Forces in Moscow.

Rocket Launchers and Missiles at the Central Museum of Armed Forces in Moscow

The inside of this museum is particularly impressive, but you will need a guide since all of the signage is only in Russian.

Old Arbat Pedestrian Shopping Area in Moscow

We all enjoyed exploring the shops on this mile-long pedestrian shopping area.

Food prices were high in the tourist attraction, with two small pizzas, two small beers, and a bottle of water at an outdoor cafe costing $40. Many of our group ate at the large McDonalds, where prices were more reasonable.

Female Cosmonaut Model at Star City Cosmonaut Training Center near Moscow

Female cosmonauts play an important role in the Russian space program. In 1963, Valentina Tereshkova from Yaroslavl was the first woman in space.

Souvenir Shop in Old Arbat Shopping Area in Moscow

The area of Old Arbat had many English signs to attract the tourist trade.

Centrifuge at Star City Outside Moscow, Russia

This 18 meter centrifuge is the world's largest. The centrifuge weighs over 30000 tons, and the maximum load is 30 G, but most tests are run at 3 or 4 G.

A centrifuge ride is the first test for a cosmonaut, whose entire training school takes from five to eight years. The centrifuge can simulate the extreme force of gravity that cosmonauts (and astronauts) face when going into space. A centrifuge training session lasts about 30 minutes, and the trainee experiences both the centrifugal force as well as the spin of the pod he/she is riding in. Just typing this makes me a little queasy!

Cosmonaut's Bathroom Facilities on First Space Flights at Star City

Just like in the USA, everyone who visits the Star City cosmonaut training center near Moscow wants to know how cosmonauts "go to the bathroom". They have more sophisticated equipment today, but this contraption from the early space flights is fairly self explanatory.

Star City Tank Used for Cosmonaut Weightlessness Training near Moscow

This 12-meter deep pool is used to simulate weightlessness training. The pool is flooded and the cosmonauts perform repair tasks on the model of the International Space Station. SCUBA diving underwater is very similar to the weightless experience the cosmonauts experience when working in outer space.

Mir Space Station Replica at Star City near Moscow

The original Mir disintegrated when it fell to earth in 2001. Mir, which means peace in Russian, was launched in 1986.

Marvel Paull with Statue of Yuri Gagarin at Star City near Moscow

Yuri Gagarin was the first man in space, and the Star City Cosmonaut training center was named after him in 1968.

River Cruise Passengers with Yuri Onufrienko, Russian Cosmonaut at Star City

In case you can't tell, Yuri is the one in the middle. My famous traveling mother, Marvel Paull, is on the left and Dick, a cruise friend is on the right.

A highlight of our day in Star City was a visit with Yuri Onufrienko , a Russian cosmonaut who spent extended time in space at the Mir space station in 1996 and the International Space Station in 2001-2002. Yuri patiently took many questions from our small inquisitive group.

Cosmonaut Space Suit at Star City near Moscow

Cosmonauts sit in this position on take off. Thanks to Jerry G. for the tip about the sign. It says, "Don't touch!"

Stained Glass Window at Star City near Moscow

Program directors at farewell dinner in moscow.

After 16 days of discovery, learning, and fun, we had a farewell dinner with the six Program Directors - Evgeny, Olga, Vladimir, Svetlana, Violetta, and Marina - in Moscow.

The Kremlin is a triangular, walled citadel in the center of Moscow. The Kremlin is considered by most to be the heart of the city. First conceived in the 12th century, the Kremlin (which means fortress) was expanded by Tsar Ivan III (Ivan the Great) during the 15th century. His architects designed the magnificent Cathedral of the Assumption and the Faceted Palace, and the Kremlin was an interesting mix of both Russian and Renaissance styles. During the Soviet time of the 1930s, many of the Kremlin buildings were destroyed or vandalized, and the complex remained closed to the public until 1955.

Today the Kremlin is home to the Russian President and his administration. Many buildings are open to the public, but you may need to be with a guide (check in advance).

I visited the Kremlin when in Moscow on a Russian Waterways cruise tour from St. Petersburg.

The Kremlin was also one of the 21 finalists for the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Red Square in Moscow, Russia

Red Square's name has nothing to do with Communism or Soviet Russia. The old Russian word for "beautiful" and "red" was the same; the square was supposed to be called "Beautiful Square". Red Square has been the center of Moscow activity since the 16th century when the Tsar cleared the area and allowed vendors, shoppers, and businesses to fill the square. Today this square is surrounded by the Moscow Kremlin, the State Historical Museum, GUM Shopping Mall , and St. Basil's Cathedral .

Many of the important events of the last three hundred years in Russia have been marked by parades or demonstrations in Red Square. Anyone who enters Red Square will have memories from TV or movie reels of this magnificent public square. Those of us who grew up during the Cold War era can remember the parades of soldiers, tanks, and other armaments past Lenin's Tomb just outside the Kremlin Wall. The World War II generation remembers Red Square as the site of a huge victory celebration at the end of the war.

Normally the boats sail between 10:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. although there are also companies that offer night cruises with dinner included.
