Since 2013, Below Deck has been captivating TV audiences across the globe by offering a voyeuristic peek into life on board multi-million dollar luxury charter yachts . Taking readers behind the scenes, YachtCharterFleet identifies the yachts featured on the show, as well as those which have appeared on the celebrated spin-off series Below Deck: Mediterranean , Below Deck: Sailing , Below Deck: Down Under and the latest iteration, Below Deck: Adventure .

Bravo’s hit reality TV series Below Deck chronicles the lives of crew members who work and reside aboard a luxury yacht during the charter season.

Each season features a different crew configuration, and the episodes show how the crew members interact and deal with personal issues alongside their working lives. The seasons are filmed over six weeks, with every episode featuring a new group of charter guests.

Getting even closer to these Below Deck superstars, we take a look at each of the stand-out features of every yacht that has appeared on the show.

Below Deck (US)

Many crew members are recurring on the show;  the longest-standing is Captain Lee Rosbach, who been on the show since 2013. A fan favourite, he has been at the helm of every yacht on Below Deck and seen a number of different crew formations.

The latest Below Deck season 10 is rumoured to be his final swan song, although his legacy on the show is such that whoever replaces him will have very big shoes to fill.

Among the crew members, Chief Stewardess Kate Chastain was an integral member of the team from season two to season seven. Alongside her, Chef Ben Robinson was a permanent fixture of the crew from season one to season four, before stepping out for season five.

Throughout the course of the show, the yachts have played an important role.

Hiring a Below Deck yacht will cost from €140,000 per week - and that price doesn't include expenses such as fuel. While some of the yachts were given an alias over the course of filming, their real names can now be revealed below; as well as the exact cost to rent them.

The largest yacht in the show's history, the 10th and 11th seasons of Below Deck  are set around the Caribbean islands of St Lucia  and Grenada onboard the luxurious 60m (197ft) superyacht ST DAVID . Delivered in 2008 by Italian shipyard Benetti, the yacht has an impressive sleek, supercar-inspired profile that instantly turns heads.

Onboard highlights include her well-appointed sundeck with sunloungers and sunpads where guests can kick back and relax, a spa pool and her al fresco cinema screen set up for unforgettable movie nights.

One of the yacht's most distinctive features is her sophisticated spiral staircase that leads through all three decks and is lit by a skylight in the spa pool of the sun deck. The yacht is very versatile for a variety of charter party configurations, with room for 12 guests across six elegantly appointed cabins.

Below Deck: Sailing Yacht

This is the first time the Below Deck franchise branched away from gleaming motor yachts, with the various weather issues that sailing yachts have to contend with adding even more drama and excitement.

The design of luxury sailing yachts  also creates far more confined crew areas than we are used to seeing on the original Below Deck . In general, sailing yachts tend to feature smaller galleys, compact stew stations and cramped crew quarters which are in closer proximity to the guests’ living areas, putting crew under increased pressure to deliver their signature silver service.

In addition, deck crew are placed in a far more demanding role, with sailing yachts requiring increased accuracy and precision to safely maneuver and plenty of deck duties taking place in the midst of guest areas.

PARSIFAL III

For the latest Below Deck: Sailing Yacht season she ventured around the glittering coastline of Sardinia .

The yacht can comfortably charter up to 12 guests across 5 luxurious cabins with a layout comprising a master suite, two double cabins and two twin cabins.

In the fourth spin off of Below Deck, the now infamous decided to spice things up a little. Instead of the usual Mediterranean or Caribbean routine, Below Deck went to the less explored (but extremely breathtaking) Norway.

For this new serie filled with adventure, Below Deck picked the motoryacht Mercury, ex Malibu and Kermit, to explore the Fjords Norway is famous for.

Mercury is a 50m motoryacht built by the dutch shipyard Amels, and designed by Terence Disdale.

She can accomodate up to 12 guests and 12 crew onboard. No doubt, that should be enough for this new exciting season.

The 181ft (55m) yacht was built by the American shipyard Trinity Yachts and features amenities such as a gym, a jacuzzi and 6 magnificent cabins. The perfect vessel to sail in style the waters of Northeastern Australia.

Keri Lee has a weekly charter rate that starts at AUD310,000 .

Northern Sun: the yacht in Below Deck Down Under Season 2

northern sun below deck down under season 2

Below Deck Down Under season 2 explored the coasts around Cairns, the gateway to access the great barrier reef and the Whitsunday Islands.

And it’s hard to imagine a better yacht than the Northern Sun motoryacht to explore this iconic area. The Northern Sun is a 50.8m (now yacht) that used to be a vessel dedicated for ice exploration. The refit work took two years but was clearly worth it when we look at the result displayed in this second season of the Australian Spin off.

Although the Northern Sun is built by the Japanese Narasaki shipyard, it surely is a boat that fits Australian waters quite well and could delight anyone looking to explore the most rugged locations in style, whether they are polar or tropical.

Northern Sun is available for charter from $161,700 / week . Her latest asking price was $15,000,000 .

Below Deck Yachts

Yacht with Below Deck logo

If you’ve never seen the show, it follows the crew of a luxury yacht during peak “charter season.” The original Below Deck, for example, showed off the glitz and glamour of the Caribbean, especially around St. Thomas, the British Virgin Islands, and the Bahamas. The Mediterranean spin-off, on the other hand, highlights European hotspots, including Italy, Spain and Croatia.

The show is undeniably a ton of fun. From the drama in the crew quarters, to the incredible beaches, the show provides an entertaining look behind the curtain.

Yet, the chartered superyachts are the real stars of the show. Each season, Below Deck features a truly stunning super yacht. All of them measure over 150 feet and are decked out in opulent features, staterooms and amenities. And here’s something you might not know: The majority of the Below Deck yachts are available for charter!

Below Deck Charter Yachts

Through five seasons, Below Deck has featured some of the most magnificent super yachts in the world. Some of the yachts have changed ownership since the show, been renamed, or have undergone a refitting. Yet, most look like they did from the show.

But beyond the name and maybe a few changes to the interior, there aren’t many differences. All of the water toys, Jacuzzis and stunning outdoor dining areas are what you’ll find on the yachts available for charter! So which charter yachts are available?

Here’s a more detailed look at the yachts featured on the original Below Deck:

Honor – Season 1

Lumiere yacht

Honor (which is now LUMIERE) kicked off the first season, and she put on a dazzling display. The yacht, originally built by Benetti in 1999, is one of the largest yachts ever featured on the show, and it was actually booked for a five-week charter for filming.

HONOR benefited from the new-found fame of the show. She sold after it aired for nearly $15 million, and the new owners completely refit her interiors and renamed the boat. Today, LUMIERE is a masterpiece of nautical engineering.

She features luxurious accommodations for up to 12 guests and an abundance of deck space, including a sprawling sun deck. The yacht also features a wide array of water toys (the slide was a struggle for the crew all season!).

Ohana – Season 2

Yacht Rhino

Season 2 took the crew on a tour of the British Virgin Islands and featured some familiar faces. Captain Lee, Chef Ben, and Bosun Eddie were back, much to the pleasure of fans. Yet, the yacht was completely different.

OHANA (real name is RHINO) was featured on the second season, a stunning 154-footer, with beautiful decks, a horseshoe outdoor bar, and a stunning outdoor sun deck. After the show aired in 2014, Ohana underwent an extensive retrofit.

She now features an updated interior with a decidedly modern, airy vibe, as well as new hardware, including a state-of-the-art stabilization system.

Eros – Season 3

Yacht Mustang Sally

EROS took centerstage in Season 3, and the 161-foot yacht, originally built for the founder of Tim Hortons, was one of the most luxurious featured on the show. The beautiful tri-deck, featured a stately saloon, a sky lounge Jacuzzi, and sleek exterior styling.

EROS – which was sold prior to the third season – has since been renamed and was also remodeled. She’s now known as Mustang Sally, and unfortunately, this is one of the few Below Deck charter yachts that’s not available for charter.

Valor – Seasons 4 & 5

below deck yacht names

The stately VALOR was a fan favorite in Season 4 and 5. Built in 1990 by Dutch-based Feadship, the 154-foot VALOR featured a sprawling aft deck, perfect for sunset dinners and afternoon lounges. Plus, the ship – when featured on the show – had a range of water toys, including dual jet skis and a sleek, boutique hotel-inspired interior.

Like Mustang Sally, VALOR – which is now known as simply BG – isn’t available for charter. Yet, fans will always remember all the drama that took place on board.

Below Deck Mediterranean Yachts

Below Deck Mediterranean premiered in 2016, and through three seasons, the show has featured some of the Med’s best yachts. All of the yachts from the Mediterranean spin-off are available for charter, exactly how you see them on the show.

Ionian Princess – Season 1

Yacht Ionian Princess

Season 1 of Below Deck Mediterranean launched with a bang, featuring one of the strongest premieres for the franchise. Although there was plenty of drama throughout the season as the crew traveled around Greece, the beauty of IONIAN PRINCESS couldn’t be missed. The ship, which was originally built in the U.S. in 2005, featured a sleek, streamlined tri-deck design and gorgeous interiors.

The sun deck – where guests partied all season long – is one of the yacht’s star attractions, featuring a Jacuzzi with world-class views. Her interior, though, is one of the most stunning, featuring a chic design. The yacht also includes six cabins with accommodations for up to 12 guests.

Sirocco – Season 2

Sirocco yacht

Season 2 took the crew to Croatia, aboard SIROCCO. The Dutch-built yacht originally launched in 2006, and thanks to its unique two-tone, third-deck exterior, she was remembered for her striking exterior. All of the yacht’s features made great TV. From her incredible sun deck, to the African chic interior, and all of the many water toys, SIROCCO’s impressive design and amenities stood out.

Today, she’s available for charter throughout the Mediterranean. A few unique features include a sun deck gym, an alfresco party deck, a theatre, and a wide array of water toys.

Talisman Maiton – Season 3

Talisman

Named for an island in Thailand, TAILSMAN MAITON is a stunning tri-deck that cruises the pristine waters of Italy and all of the Mediterranean. The largest to ever be featured on the show, TAILSMAN is truly incredible.

The yacht accommodates 12 guests, in 6 beautifully appointed rooms. There’s a master suite, as well as 1 VIP stateroom, and four smaller cabins. The yacht was built in 2006, but most recently refit in 2016 with a timeless Art Deco aesthetic. The yacht also features a sundeck spa pool with a beautiful bar, a full-service gym, and an observation deck with panoramic views.

How Long Are the Below Deck Charters?

Here’s a little-known secret about Below Deck: The “charter season” on the show is just a few weeks. In fact, the yachts are actually booked for about six weeks, and their regular crews are sent home. In other words, the charters on Below Deck are actually a charter within a charter!

Each of the Below Deck charters last just a few days, and each episode features new charter guests.

Below Deck Yacht Rental Costs

Hiring a yacht from Below Deck isn’t cheap. The majority cost in the neighborhood of $150,000 per week. Yet, that charter rate doesn’t include expenses, including fuel, dockage fees, and taxes.

Yet, for that price, you’ll get a truly world-class experience. The crews of each of these yachts provide first-class service and all of the boats are fully loaded with amenities. There’s nothing quite like it in the world. And by hiring one of these superyachts, you’ll also have bragging rights for chartering a yacht featured on a TV show!

Below Deck: Sailing Yacht Complete Guide: Updates, Cast, Seasons

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

When Below Deck sailed onto Bravo in 2013, it was a hit with fans. It quickly spawned several spin offs. Below Deck Mediterranean debuted in 2013. In February 2020, Below Deck Sailing Yacht premiered.

It followed the lives of “yachties” working on a 177-foot sailing yacht called Parsifal III. This luxurious vessel cruised the Ionian Sea. If you are a newbie, or just brushing up on this franchise, this Below Deck Sailing Yacht guide has everything you need.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Cast Members

Captain Glenn Shephard has been at the helm since the series debuted . He is relaxed until pushed to the limit. During Season 2, Captain Glenn assembled a core team that returned for multiple seasons.

During Season 2, Gary King served as chief officer, and Colin MacRae was the chief engineer. Chief stew Daisy Kelliher also joined the crew. Chef Natasha De Bourg , who had a Michelin-star rating, left after the second season. The guests may have loved her food, but Daisy was critical of her skills.

Chef Ileisha Dell took over the galley during Season 4. She prepared an elaborate, and time-consuming, 10-course meal. Chef’s kiss!

Memorable Moments

There have been plenty of fireworks on this franchise. And we have it all in this handy Below Deck Sailing Yacht guide. During Season 1, Chef Adam Glick and chief stew Jenna MacGillivray hit it off. Their PDA-filled “boatmance” turned off their fellow crew members.

There was baby drama after Season 2 when second stew Dani Soares announced that she was pregnant with Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux’s child. Jean-Luc requested a DNA test , which confirmed he was the father of Dani’s daughter.

And Gary participated in too many romances. During Season 2, he romanced both deckhand Sydney Zaruba and stew Alli Dore .

Then Daisy and Gary had sex between Seasons 3 and 4. During Season 4, Daisy also hooked up with Gary’s buddy, Colin. Yet Gary continued to flirt with Daisy. Season 4 became awkward in a hurry!

Gary was also involved in another romantic entanglement with stew Mads Herrera . But she locked lips with deckhand Alex Propson , too. Season 4 absolutely delivered!

Add in some nautical accidents, too. Captain Glenn hit the dock twice during Season 2. And during Season 3, a hazardous overnight squall put everyone in danger.

All in all, there was plenty of excitement aboard Parsifal III.

What is your wildest charter guest story from your career?  "So many crazy things have happened that crazy stories for other people are just normal day to day occurrences for me. I’d probably end up with a lawsuit if I had to tell you."

Favorite place you’ve been on charter/place you traveled?  "On charter, my favorite place has been the U.S. Virgin Islands and British Virgin Islands. I got to swim with dolphins and snorkel in my free time… a literal dream."

What’s one thing about working and living on a boat that would surprise people?  "Believe it or not, but land sickness is a thing after spending a lot of time on a yacht. Your world rocks for maybe three days after hopping off the boat."

Here's Where the Cast of Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3 Is Now

Did the drama continue?

below deck sailing yacht season 3

Since it debuted back in 2020, Bravo’s spin-off Below Deck Sailing Yacht has certainly delivered some of the most dramatic feuds and steamy boatmances, and it looks as if Season 3 is no different.

While Captain Glenn Shephard is returning to take the lead of the Parsifal III, there’s a lot that’s changed, including a brand new crew and filming location. The cast will be sailing through the stunning waters of Menorca, Spain, but they’ll definitely be hitting some rocky moments, especially when it comes to returning crew members Gary and Daisy’s love-hate romance.

Well, it seems as if there’s more to come as Bravo teases one of the most unexpected crew hookups in Below Deck history. Say what? With so much having happened during the cast’s filming last summer, what exactly have they been up to since?

Captain Glenn Shephard

Daisy kelliher - chief stew.

When Season 3 wrapped, Daisy Kelliher, who returned aboard the Parsifal III as chief stew, took some much-needed vacation time. Kelliher hit up Antigua in the Caribbean , which is where she rang in the New Year and has remained since filming. Considering her ongoing love-hate relationship with fellow castmate Gary King, Daisy remains single for the time being, but she’s certainly not fallen out of love with traveling. Despite appearing to be living the life so many wish they could, Daisy revealed she’s been suffering from severe separation anxiety as she shared just how hectic and demanding her line of work could be in a February 13, 2022 post on Instagram

Gary King - First Officer

Being involved in Bravo drama is nothing new for Gary, especially after his steamy season with Daisy. Well, after wrapping up season three in Menorca, Gary took some time off to reunite with his family; sharing an adorable photo of him and his niece, Ava , on Instagram. The Bravo star is currently in St. Lucia , soaking up the sun, but he hasn’t managed to escape the drama. After sharing a kiss with Daisy Kelliher in the most recent season three trailer, fans have been wondering if he and Daisy are an item. Well, despite the rumors, Gary and Daisy aren’t dating, after confirming to E! News that the two are “just friends.”

Colin McRae - Chief Engineer

Colin McRae has returned to his old stomping grounds aboard the Parsifal III, and considering his love for sailing, fans aren’t surprised to see the Bravo star back on their screens. Since wrapping up last summer’s filming, it didn't take too much time before Colin and fellow Chief Stew Daisy reunited back in December. Since then, Colin has given most of his time to his YouTube channel, Sailing Parlay , which features an array of videos showcasing his sailing adventures. Things are clearly going well for Colin’s online presence, considering he was rewarded with a YouTube 100,000 subscriber count plaque back on February 6. "It has been 4 years of VERY hard work, possibly the hardest of any sailing channel out there that I know of so far, and to reach this milestone is so gratifying for us,” he wrote on Instagram.

Marcos Spaziani - Chef

Say hello to Bravo’s newest chef, Marcos Spaziani. The Venezuela native has been in the industry for over 10 years and is bringing his culinary expertise to the waters of Menorca. It didn’t take much time for Marcos to make a name for himself following season three of Below Deck Sailing Yacht . Spaziani is currently settled in California and has decided to open up his very own restaurant in Koreatown, Los Angeles. Marcos and fellow chef Louis Huh have been working diligently on their newest business venture, ML Eats LA .

Gabriela Barragan - 2nd Stew

Gabriela Barragan reigns from San Diego and while she’s new to the Below Deck crew, she is certainly no stranger to yachting . Barragan has worked as both a stewardess and a deckhand over the course of the last two years and has continued her yachtie life after filming season three of Sailing Yacht . Gabriela spent January and February working a yacht in St. Thomas. After living and working the island life, Gabriela took to Instagram to share that all of her “ wildest dreams are coming true ,” and considering she’s spending her days sailing through crystal clear waters, we don’t blame her.

Ashley Marti - 3rd Stew

Ashley Marti is making her Below Deck Sailing Yacht debut, and she’s relatively new to the industry. Marti first began working on yachts at the start of the pandemic. Although she reigns from New York , Marti is currently a West Coast gal as she takes in the Los Angeles sun alongside a few of her castmates. Since wrapping up Season 3, Ashley traveled through the United States and the Bahamas and is adamant about returning back aboard the Parsifal III, so Bravo fans just might be seeing more of her in the future.

Kelsi Goglia - Deckhand

Kelsi Goglia is making her Bravo debut this season of Sailing Yacht. After catching the travel bug following a trip to Croatia, Kelsi has been a yachtie ever since, and it doesn’t look like she’s turning back any time soon. She currently resides in San Diego, California, and loves herself some travel, as most Below Deck crew members do. While her romantic life remains a mystery, it’s clear she’s too busy roaming the world to settle down just yet.

Tom Pearson - Deckhand

Growing up on a lake , Tom Pearson is no stranger to the water, but he’s brand new to the Bravo family. The Below Deck Sailing Yacht deckhand was spotted getting his boatmance on, making us all wonder if he’ll be headed toward hot waters. Well, it seems as if Pearson remains single, but his life is anything but boring. After returning home to Windermere, England, Tom has kept busy surfing through the British waters but has taken quite a liking to his new image. The Bravo star has been attending a number of events following his newfound fame, including his most recent appearance in London, England for the launch of a new app on January 20.

11 below deck deckhands who are the worst.

Below Deck has featured many deckhands over the years, but some are better than others. These are the 11 worst deckhands on the hit Bravo franchise.

  • Some deckhands on Below Deck have caused drama & issues with their professionalism.
  • Examples include Danny Zureikat, who flirted with guests, & Dylan De Villiers.
  • Dylan showed rude behavior towards crewmates, unlike others trying to improve.

Below Deck has cast many deckhands over the years, but some are much worse than others. As the Below Deck franchise continues to unfold with tales of drama and salacious boatmances, some deckhands stand out not for their commitment to professionalism but for being bona fide disasters. On Below Deck , deckhands are responsible for cleaning and maintaining the yacht.

Below Deck , Below Deck Mediterranean , Below Deck Sailing Yacht , Below Deck Down Under , and Below Deck Adventure have an extensive roster of cast members whose ineptitude and blunders have left a lasting impression. However, some deckhands stand out. Here are some of the worst deckhands, including cast members from Below Deck season 11 .

20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now

11 danny zureikat, below deck mediterranean season 1.

Danny Zureikat was a deckhand on Below Deck Med season 1, but his stint on the show was brief due to breaking rules and getting too familiar with guests, especially a model named Morgan. This included flirting with her and even writing her a poem, which was not okay given he was a crew member. He also broke other rules onboard, including sharing photos of the female guests with other guests, which Chief Stew Hannah Ferrier had to address.

Danny's lack of professionalism also led to conflicts with fellow crew members, notably deckhand Bobby Giancola and Hannah. Ultimately, Danny's behavior became too problematic to ignore , leading Captain Mark Howard to dismiss him from the yacht. The captain's decision was likely influenced by Danny's repeated infractions and his failure to adhere to any of the expectations of a good crew member.

10 James Hough

Below deck season 8.

James Hough wasn't the worst deckhand on Below Deck , but he deserves a spot on the list. One aspect that caused problems for him was his flirty personality, which sometimes blurred boundaries and led to complications. His relationship with Elizabeth Frankini made him distracted, which caused an issue with Chief Stew Francesca Rubi. While James wasn't fired, it did lead to Elizabeth's dismissal from the yacht.

Additionally, James initially found it challenging to connect with his crewmates , which may have affected teamwork and communication onboard. He even considered leaving the yacht early on but decided to stay. However, it's worth noting James improved as the season progressed, eventually finding his stride and becoming more comfortable with his role. Regardless, he didn't leave a great impression as a deckhand due to his overly flirty nature.

Below Deck Fans Believe This Crew Member Is Creating A Troubled Work Environment

9 nico scholly, below deck seasons 4 & 5.

Nico Scholly appeared on Below Deck seasons 4 and 5, but he wasn't the best deckhand. Throughout his time on the show, Nico's personal problems impacted his performance, including breaking up with his long-term girlfriend, Melissa. The subsequent romance with Brianna Adekeye seemed to distract him from his duties as a deckhand. Nico's interactions with bosun EJ Jansen were also dramatic , impacting the team onboard.

Sadly, the death of Nico's younger brother heavily impacted him, which admittedly led him to use the yacht as an escape rather than a professional gateway.

Sadly, the death of Nico's younger brother heavily impacted him, which admittedly led him to use the yacht as an escape rather than a professional gateway. While this could help explain his poor performance, he was still a bad deckhand. At the season 5 reunion, Nico expressed remorse for his actions and acknowledged the need for personal growth. This indicates his desire to improve, but it doesn't fix how terrible he was during the seasons.

8 Tanner Sterback

Below deck season 7.

Tanner Sterback was introduced as a deckhand on Below Deck season 7, but his tenure was short-lived. The disrespectful deckhand showcased a lack of responsibility during his time on the show. Despite working hard on the yacht, he also prioritized having fun and engaging in romantic entanglements with his crewmates over yacht duties. Self-proclaimed mama's boy, Tanner frequently called his parents, but even their warnings didn't deter his involvement in Below Deck 's romantic drama, including relationships with crewmates Simone Mashile and ill-fated attempts to hook up with former Chief Stew Kate Chastain .

Post- Below Deck , Tanner was hit by a car while riding his electric skateboard , resulting in a fractured skull and hospitalization. Despite the accident, Tanner has reflected on his highs and lows since the show. Tanner has also started dating someone , so his philandering days are likely behind him. Unfortunately, so are his days as a deckhand.

Below Deck Season 11’s Dylan Is Jealous Of Ben (He’s Going For His Position & His Boatmance)

7 dylan pierre de villiers, below deck season 11.

While Below Deck season 11 continues to unfold, Dylan Pierre de Villiers has already proven himself to be a less-than-ideal deckhand. The deckhand has a serious attitude problem. He only joined in episode 8, but his outlandish comments about fellow crew member Sunny Marquis and his demands to be promoted to lead deckhand made a negative impact. However, he's rude and disrespectful to more than just Sunny.

To redeem himself, Dylan should apologize to Sunny and Ben Willoughby, mend relationships with the crew, and demonstrate genuine remorse for his actions.

Despite having more experience than Sunny, Dylan's immature behavior in spreading rumors about her has caused friction within the crew at large. To redeem himself, Dylan should apologize to Sunny and Ben Willoughby, mend relationships with the crew, and demonstrate genuine remorse for his actions. Unlike many of the other deckhands on the list, Dylan has a chance to redeem himself on Below Deck season 11 . However, it's unlikely he will, given his attitude problem.

6 Ben Willoughby

Below deck seasons 10 & 11.

Unfortunately, Dylan isn't the only underperforming deckhand in Below Deck season 11. The deckhand-turned-bosun has been a controversial figure in the current season, and Ben may have been fired on Below Deck . Initially introduced as a deckhand, he was promoted to bosun following Jared Woodin's departure. However, his rise in rank didn't end the drama, particularly his connection with Sunny, which caused friction when Paris Fields joined the crew. Sunny confronted Ben about his behavior, but he continued to flirt with other crew members, including Paris and Xandi Oliver.

There are plenty of signs Ben might get fired after two rocky seasons.

There are plenty of signs Ben might get fired after two rocky seasons. Ben also appeared in season 10, where he was promoted to lead deckhand and engaged in a boatmance with Camille Lamb, causing tension among the crew. Despite his five years of experience in the yachting industry, Ben's disrespectful, unprofessional, and unreliable behavior makes him a terrible deckhand. It remains to be seen whether he gets fired or quits.

Below Deck: Dylan Pierre De Villiers Is The Most Problematic Season 11 Cast Member (Can He Redeem Himself?)

5 jean-luc cerza lanaux, below deck sailing yacht season 2.

Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux's time as a less-than-ideal deckhand on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2 was marked by his wild relationship with second stew Dani Soares and subsequent actions after the season wrapped. Despite initially appearing to have a real connection with Dani, their relationship went south when Dani announced her pregnancy, and Jean-Luc denied being the father . While he eventually confirmed his fatherhood and said he'd get involved in his daughter's life, his delayed actions and absence from Dani and their child's life were too little, too late.

Jean-Luc's online silence following the backlash and his return to social media after confirming paternity suggest a turbulent period in his personal life. Despite these challenges, he has continued his career in the yachting industry, albeit away from the public eye. While he wasn't a horrible deckhand, the romantic entanglement and fallout with Dani made him a bad crew member.

4 Dane Jackson

Below deck season 3.

Dane Jackson had the potential to be a great deckhand, but unfortunately, he was anything but. While Dane steered clear of major conflicts in Below Deck season 3, he failed to forge meaningful connections with his colleagues. He had a detached attitude towards his responsibilities as a deckhand; this was irksome for the rest of the crew. He also had an incident where he drank way too much and became aggressive. Eddie Lucas intervened and got him away from the rest of the crew, which isn't a great look as a new deckhand.

Captain Lee Rosbach was eventually forced to fire Dane for his poor performance. Dane's embarrassing behavior and failure to fulfill his duties led to his dismissal. However, before being officially fired by Captain Lee, Dane attempted to resign from his position. It didn't work, and the deckhand was fired.

8 Below Deck Chief Stews Who Are The Worst

3 peter hunziker, below deck mediterranean season 5.

Pete Hunziker from Below Deck Med season 5 earned his reputation as a bad deckhand because of a racist post. He was swiftly removed from the show after the post surfaced online. Not only is Pete a racist, but Pete was also known for his disrespectful behavior towards women onboard , including inappropriate comments and hitting on crew members. It was unprofessional and unsafe. Luckily, Malia White caught on to his sexism immediately and had him demoted.

Pete's firing was prompted by the racist post . Bravo terminated him in June 2020, editing subsequent episodes to minimize his appearance. Despite making an apology weeks later, Pete hasn't returned to the show or reality TV. While he's moved on from the controversy, a return to the franchise seems unlikely, given his racist remarks and lack of respect for his female colleagues.

2 Ashton Pienaar

Below deck seasons 6 & 7.

Ashton Pienaar appeared in Below Deck seasons 6 and 7, and while he started as a likable deckhand, he quickly turned into a problematic figure. Despite gaining sympathy after a scary accident on the show, his behavior got worse. Ashton's heavy drinking led to aggressive outbursts, particularly targeting Kate. His belligerence culminated in punching the inside of a van door while he was drunk.

Captain Lee doesn't mess around, so he refused to work with him again. As the biggest figure in the franchise, this effectively ended Ashton's Below Deck career. However, since leaving the show, Ashton has embarked on a journey of self-improvement, focusing on fitness coaching and becoming sober. This was a mature move, as most of Ashton's issues stemmed from his excessive drinking.

8 Below Deck Cast Members Who Left Gracefully After Being Fired

1 kyle dickard, below deck adventure season 1.

Kyle Dickard's blatant misconduct on Below Deck Adventure was characterized by many incidents that showcased his terrible venue as a deckhand. One notable instance was his inappropriate behavior towards Kasie Faddah, with whom he had a short-lived romance. Despite initially seeming to reciprocate Kyle's feelings, their relationship quickly turned sour as Kyle began flirting with Kasie in front of guests, which resulted in him receiving a warning from Captain Kerry Titheradge.

Another significant issue arose in his interactions with fellow deckhand Nathan Morley. Kyle repeatedly disregarded Nathan's requests to maintain cleanliness in shared spaces like the bathroom. Despite Nathan's efforts to address these issues peacefully, Kyle responded aggressively, even making threats of physical violence while he was drunk. Ultimately, Kyle's behavior crossed a line, and he was rightly fired from the Below Deck spin-off.

Below Deck season 11 airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EDT on Bravo.

Below Deck is a popular reality TV franchise that focuses on a group of crew members as they work on luxurious yachts and cater to their client's needs. After the original series proved to be a success, Bravo developed a handful of spinoff shows including Below Deck Selling Yacht, Below Deck Adventure, Below Deck Down Under, and Below Deck Mediterranean.

Below Deck fans sound off after Below Deck Med and Below Deck Sailing Yacht swap

Daisy Kelliher on Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 4

Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans were dealt a low blow this week when it was revealed Below Deck Med will hit Bravo airwaves after the OG Below Deck ends.

It’s that time of year again, when Captain Glenn Shephard and his Parsifal III crew should be gracing our TV screens.

However, as Monsters and Critics previously Below Deck Med Season 9 will hit Bravo airwaves after Below Deck Season 11 wraps up.

The news has Below Deck fans outraged for several reasons including wanting Below Deck Sailing Yacht back on air and having Below Deck Med overload.

X (formerly Twitter) has been on fire since on fire about the sudden Below Deck show switch-up.

The fact that the sailing show was missing and we just had Captain Sandy Yawn on air was a common theme on the social media platform.

“I don’t think we’ve ever had a show that aired a new season 4 months after their last one. #BelowDeckMed,” wrote a user.

The return of Aesha Scott as chief stew garnered mixed reviews on social media.

More Below Deck Med comments

Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans are not thrilled with the show not airing next, but some did point out a few good things about Below Deck Med Season 9.

There were plenty of comments about having a new crew other than Aesha and Captain Sandy Yawn.

Excitement over not having Kyle back was expressed more than once.

Below Deck show stewardess Kate Chastain

Below Deck secrets: The reality series that went from hard sell to selling charters

Kate Lardy finds out how the hit reality TV show about yacht crew drama went from hard sell to selling charters.

Rebecca Taylor Henning was on holiday in St Martin and having dinner with her family when she began eavesdropping on the table of yacht crew next to her, hearing the angst of a stewardess who was falling in love with the mate and deliberating whether to tell the captain.

“It was Below Deck unfolding before my eyes,” says Taylor Henning, who worked on yachts as a second stewardess and mate before making a career in television. Befriending that crew was the impetus she needed to pitch a reality TV show centred around superyacht crew. It was an opportunity that US production company 51 Minds couldn’t pass up. And just like that, the carefully constructed veil of privacy that surrounds superyachts was breached.

Many in the close-knit yachting world were none too happy about it. “When we started making cold calls, we were shut right down,” says Taylor Henning, who was co-executive producer for season one of the show.

“People told me that my little TV show would be the downfall of the multibillion-dollar yachting industry,” says yacht chef Adrienne Gang, who worked with 51 Minds on the sizzle reel that sold the show to American TV network Bravo and appeared on the first season as chief stewardess. “After the show aired, I was terrified to go to the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show. There was such an uproar about it!”

Eight years later, the superyacht industry is still ticking along, as is Below Deck , which raked in 1.13 million viewers in June 2021 when the latest season of Below Deck Mediterranean aired. The series has also celebrated the launch of other spin-offs including Below Deck Sailing Yacht which premiered in early 2020, and an Australian and adventure charter series both set to debut and 2022.

Filmed over a period of six weeks, the show brings on a new set of guests every few days. The producers never tell the cast what to say or do, but crew nights out between charters, where alcohol flows copiously, are mandatory. It’s a high-pressure environment bound to unleash the drama that is the backbone of any successful reality show.

How real is this reality? Very, say crew members who’ve been involved with the show. “Anybody who tells you none of those things happen on yachts is lying,” says Gang. “There are always love triangles, insubordination, people getting too drunk, people not doing what they’re supposed to be doing, crazy charter guests – all of those things are real… Just not all on the same boat in the same six-week period.”

Ross Inia had plenty of experience working on charter yachts when he agreed to be part of season six. The New Zealand native had not been home in four years and the show’s filming location in Tahiti was the selling point. “My [thinking] was to go on there, do the job, make some money and go back to New Zealand,” he says.

He found the experience true to life – and a lot of fun. “I’ve been in the industry and what you see on television is happening in real life,” he says, although he acknowledges that personalities clash a bit more on television than they do on boats.

Whereas captains hire crew members who focus on synergy, the show hires an ensemble cast with a wide range of personalities and backgrounds, says Shari Levine, Bravo’s executive vice-president of current production. “Some may be more assertive than others or have a specific way they like to lead or be led, and we see that all play out on the show.”

All of which concerned Kim Vibe-Petersen before his 54-metre Perini Navi Parsifal III became the star of the first season of Below Deck Sailing . “At first, we didn’t want to do it,” he says. “We thought maybe this was the wrong signal to send out to the market and that it could disturb the very good reputation that Parsifal III has.” But persistence won out. “They kept on asking and asking and we came to an agreement.”

He considered changing the yacht’s name for the show, but later changed his mind, acknowledging that name recognition might be good for a charter yacht, even one as successful as Parsifal III . “We were a little nervous that the series would be too extreme, but it turned out to be pretty good. You have to understand it gives a different image to your boat, but, of course, they cannot film all 18 episodes and just have quiet charters. Something has to happen.”

Below Deck Sailing featured Vibe-Petersen’s captain of 13 years, Glenn Shephard, and some of his crew instead of an entire cast of talented actors. Two of the yacht’s guest cabins were converted into studios for the film crew. Shephard says he found the cameras “weird” at first, but got used to them after a couple of days and got on with running the boat just like he would in any other charter season. “It’s not totally like it is in reality,” says Vibe-Petersen. “The crew is jumping around in our Jacuzzi and all over the boat. That part of it is maybe a little overdone.”

Bobby Genovese, owner of 46-metre Feadship BG , says he’d rather not know what goes on. His boat has been on three seasons of Below Deck , but Genovese says he’s never seen an episode, and when someone tries to start a conversation about something that happened on the show, he shuts it down. When 51 Minds approached him with the idea, what convinced him was that filming fell during ski season.

“I don’t use the boat those six weeks. They paid me a million dollars, they fixed the damage that [they caused], my crew got the opportunity to have time off, and it made sense for me.” In the end, “the overall feeling was it was good for the boat, and everybody had an enjoyable experience”. BG , however, had the stage name Valor as Genovese didn’t want his boat associated with the show.

The owner of Ohana (now Rhino ), Jim Glidewell, had no such qualms. The 46-metre Admiral Marine appeared under her own name, and the exposure even attracted a buyer. He has nothing but good things to say about the experience. “Bravo has this down to a science. It doesn’t go rough at all. It’s very well done. [TV] Captain Lee handled it great, but I had a first mate and an engineer on board for backup [who were not shown on television].” He’s hoping to repeat the experience with one of his two current superyachts in a future season. “I think if people don’t take that charter money, they’re wrong.”

Glidewell has seen some of the shows and, like Vibe-Petersen, says the charterers are not like his yacht’s typical guests – he calls them “adult spring breakers”. Guests pay to be there like any other charter, says Bravo’s Levine. “How they choose to interact with the crew is up to them, and while some charter guests are wonderful and gracious, some are not.”

Yacht broker Shannon McCoy, of Worth Avenue Yachts , was one of the gracious ones. Invited by her clients, she’s appeared in two episodes. “Even though there are cameras everywhere and you’re being mic’ed, it is very much like a real charter,” she says. “Everybody treats you based on your preference sheets. Nothing is scripted for the guests.”

Her second time on the show, in Tahiti, was her favourite. “The weather was perfect, the group of people we had was great, and we did every water sport and activity that we could that was offered by My Seanna (now Starship ). You don’t ever see any of the drama that happens below deck.” So, while the bosun was struggling to communicate with his deck team and the third stewardess was feeling ostracised by the chief and second stews, “we had zero idea”, says McCoy.

Jerry Purcell, a guest with McCoy in Tahiti, says some in their group were bothered by the microphones and cameras, but he quickly forgot about them. “They kind of just go away in the background,” says Purcell, who owns a 21-metre yacht that occasionally charters. He came on the show to see how a large yacht charter unfolds and as a fan.

The franchise seems to have found particular appeal with the charter crowd. “I have a lot of charter clients that watch the show and take it for what it is, and they’ve become big fans – huge,” says Jennifer Saia, president of B&B Yacht Charters.

“Our guests are Below Deck crazy,” says Victoria Allman, chef on a 50-metre motor yacht. “The stews have overheard their comments at the table: ‘Don’t do this, or do it this way; the crew on Below Deck hate it when…’ In a weird way it has helped us,” she says. “One guest even brought their own steamer because the girls on the show hate being stuck in the laundry.”

As a treat for the guests, Allman once orchestrated a surprise visit from Kate Chastain, the chief stewardess who rose to fame over six seasons. “The stories she told about how hard they work during the shoot amazed me. They still have to turn the boat around, do the laundry, provision, etc, as well as sitting for interviews and dodging camera crews,” she says. “There is no ‘extra’ stew making sure all the grunt work gets done while the stars are being filmed. If I work 16 hours a day, they must be doing so much more than that. We as a crew should have a lot more respect for how hard they are working.”

There is still some stigma around the show, but the tide is turning. “It has become a talking point for people in the industry instead of ‘We don’t want to acknowledge it exists,’” says Gang.

It helps that the show has enticed new charterers instead of turning them off. “I know it has had a good effect on the charter market,” says McCoy. “I personally have booked charters from being on the show.”

It has also attracted new crew. “There’s definitely been an uptick in crew applications. It has brought more American crew into yachting; some are doing very well,” says Joanne Damgaard, crew placement agent at Bluewater .

The prevailing sentiment in the early years was that anyone who appeared on the show would never work in yachting again. Thankfully that has been proven wrong, with many cast members returning to charter work. Gang says there may have been a handful of yachts that turned her down because they recognised her from the show, but she’s had no trouble finding work among her extensive network. And speaking to BOAT International from his job as mate on a 35 metre, Inia says his Below Deck stint hasn’t affected his career at all.

So, while some in the industry – like the captain of a superyacht who binge-watched the entire franchise during Covid-19 lockdown – will never accept the show as a representation of yachting, that might be beside the point. “It’s supposed to be entertainment, take your mind off the trials and tribulations of your day and show you some place maybe you haven’t been before,” says Captain Lee, the show’s most famous face.“It’s also brought awareness to a lot of people who have money and never knew you could charter a yacht like that. It’s a whole new world for them.”
