Fethiye

Fethiye with its cultural wealth, natural beauties and geography, is among the important touristic centers of Turkey. It is famous for its works of art belong to Persians, Lycians, Carians and Romans. This charming county is in a bay within Fethiye Gulf where both large and small islands are scattered. The rear of the bay is surrounded by pine forests.

The city was fortified in the 8th century, and appears as "Telmissos or Anastasioupolis" ca. 800. By the 10th century, the ancient name was forgotten and it became known as Makre or Makri ("long one"), from the name of the island at the entrance to the harbor. The area fell to the Turks in the late 12th or early 13th century. It became part of the Ottoman Empire in 1424, and was called Meğri until 1934. In 1934, the city was renamed Fethiye in honor of Captain Fethi Bey, one of the first pilots of the Ottoman Air Force.

The abundance of bays and islands on the rugged coast line creates an excellent basis for the development of yacht Fethiye tourism. The Fethiye old town itself has no beaches, the closest municipal beach is Çalış Beach, it is located in several kilometers from Fethiye old town. The water temperature in the sea near Fethiye Turkey throughout the year rarely falls below 19°C. Fethiye region is famous for the magnificent sea and underwater tuff caves, which are particularly interesting for divers. In 16 km from Fethiye Turkey near the town of Ölüdeniz there is a unique nature reserve Blue Lagoon, the so-called Dead Sea - the most visited and one of the most beautiful beaches in Turkey.

More About Fethiye Gulet - Turkey

Fethiye is a traditional market town set around a beautiful natural harbour. With private and public marinas, shipyards, and beautiful clear waters it is a natural centre for visitors to Turkey to enjoy the ‘blue cruise’ on the traditional gulet charter yachts. Gulets depart from here for yacht charters around the stunning coastline with the most popular gulet cruise being around the Gulf of Fethiye and into the Bay of Gocek with its famous twelve islands. A family gulet holiday in these bays makes for an extremely relaxing way to spend the week, touring the beautiful coves and islands swimming, sunbathing and exploring. The gulet holiday itinerary can be extended to around the rugged cape of Fethiye peninsula to the famous Gemiler or St. Nicholas Island, or walk up to the village of Kayakoy, or be run across to Ölüdeniz.  Literally translated as 'dead sea', the stunning Ölüdeniz lagoon is a protected area, ensuring that its natural beauty is preserved, and only non-motorised watersports are allowed.A longer popular gulet charter route takes guests along the coast further east past the magnificent long Patara beach to the charming mountainside harbour of Kalkan and spectactular coves sheltered by cliffs, as at Kaputaş beach, and to the laid back harbour town of Kaş. Alternatively, gulet charters can cruise westwards at a leisurely pace to Ekincik, where arrangements can be made for a riverboat to explore Dalyan river and mud baths, or sail further to Marmaris and return. Fethiye is at a reasonable distance for transfers from Dalaman airport which has both international and domestic terminals, and serves many airlines and charters for the summer season, and for the greater part of the year.

Gulet Bound

[email protected], gulf of fethiye.

Discerning travellers are drawn to the diverse experiences of a gulet cruise along the Gulf of Fethiye

The southwestern coast of the Aegean region is a marvel of delights with each bay, cove and islet showing off its own unique beauty. The Gulf of Fethiye is no exception.

Gulet charter and yacht holidays are synonymous with this area. The natural harbour of Fethiye is known as one of the best in this part of the Mediterranean with its modern harbour and marina. Fethiye is a city and district of the Mugla province. It lays on the eastern shores of the gulf, shielded by the pine-clad Taurus mountain range. The energy of the town is palpable with its upmarket bars and restaurants. At the same time, the town manages to retain the feeling of a local seaside Turkish village with quaint shops and cafes.

The Gulf of Fethiye is one of Turkey’s signature blue voyages as this stretch of coastline is mostly accessible only by boat. Turkey’s Aegean coast is actually known as the birthplace of the blue cruise, which in essence is a sailing vacation on a gulet charter.

The Aegean Sea meets up with the Mediterranean and is flanked by the Greek and Anatolian (Turkish) peninsulas. Turkey is a transcontinental country situated mainly on the Anatolian peninsula in Western Asia. The smaller portion is on the Balkan peninsula in southeastern Europe.

The Gulf of Fethiye was formerly known as the Gulf of Telmessos after the ancient city of Telmessos on which modern Fethiye now sits. The city was renamed Fethiye in 1934 in honour of one of the first pilots who died while attempting to complete the first flight from Istanbul to Cairo.

Here are 3 of the top attractions to visit when cruising on your yacht holiday in the Gulf of Fethiye:

Butterfly Valley

Butterfly Valley is a real gem of the Turkish Riviera. This piece of paradise was declared a natural protected area in 1995 and is home to approximately 100 species of butterflies. Deemed one of Fethiye's most beautiful places, this secluded bay is only accessible by boat. The azure water offset by the lush greenery, an iridescent pebble beach invites you to lap up this lifetime experience on your gulet charter.

Blue Lagoon

Ӧlüdeniz is home to the exquisite Blue Lagoon. Separated by a sand bar and narrow channel, the lagoon is one of the most photographed attractions with its spectacular shallow waters of turquoise and aquamarine. Ӧlüdeniz is also one of the best places in the world to paraglide, thanks to its stable weather conditions and panoramic views.

Turtle Beach

Turkey is of the top beach and yacht holiday destinations in the world. It is a luxury gulet charter's paradise with an endless coastline of the most captivating beaches, natural wonders, and historic remains. One of its prime attractions is Iztuzu Beach, Dalyan, between the districts of Fethiye and Marmaris. Travellers will be in awe of this proclaimed conservation area which is a breeding ground and nesting area for the endangered Loggerhead sea turtles – a species which has existed for over 45 million years. The white sandy beach runs for 6km and forms a natural barrier between the fresh-water delta of the Daylan River and the Mediterranean. Nearby Turtle Beach are the Temple Tombs where the ancient Lycian tombs were made by cutting into the rock of the sheer cliffs during the 4th century BC.

The Gulf of Fethiye is indeed home to the unique beauty and unparalleled landscapes that are best experienced by gulet charter.

Discover Fethiye by Boat

With its natural beauty, historical ruins, and extreme sports options, Fethiye, the district with the largest area and settlement area of Mugla, has become a favourite of domestic and foreign tourists.

The city’s history can be traced back to the 5th century BC when it was known as Telmessos. Telmessos, also known as the Prophets’ City, is spread out over a large area, stretching from the slopes of Fethiye’s mountain to the bay. According to legend, the Sun God Apollo fell in love with the Phoenician King Agenor’s little daughter, disguised himself as a dog, stole the king’s daughter, married her, and had a son named Telmessos. He named the city he founded in Apollon after his son. From Caria, Persia, Rome, Mentesogullari, and Ottoman rule, Telmessos became Anastasiaopolis, Meri (Makri), and finally Fethiye in honour of Tayyareci Fethi Bey, who was one of the first aviation martyrs after his plane crashed in Damascus in 1914.

Due to the marinas in its centre, Fethiye, one of Mugla’s most important touristic districts, is one of the most important ports where blue cruise and boat rental guests begin their vacation. What are the boat rental routes in Fethiye? First and foremost, we can say that the Gocek blue cruise route is the answer to the question. The Gocek Bays route can be transformed into a much more enjoyable blue cruise route by including Oludeniz and Fethiye Bays. Longer cruises can be requested by our guests, and the blue cruise routes can be extended as far as Marmaris.

With its world-famous beach Oludeniz, Fethiye has made a name for itself. In the town, which has become increasingly popular in recent years, paragliding is also a popular activity. In addition to its dozens of bays and beaches, the city offers popular options such as Butterfly Valley, Paspatur Bazaar, Fish Market, Calis Beach, Kabak Bay, Gocek boat tour (Twelve Islands), Fethiye boat tour (Fethiye Bays), and there are many historical ruins of the city.

Dalaman Airport, which is 45 kilometres away, is the closest airport to the city. Fethiye is 136 kilometres from Mugla, the city centre. It is 334 kilometres from Izmir, 200 kilometres from Burdur, 181 kilometres from Denizli, 196 kilometres from Antalya, 231 kilometres from Bodrum, 125 kilometres from Marmaris, 124 kilometres from Kas, and 27 kilometres from Gocek. Ferries to Rhodes are also available regularly.

Places worth to visit in fethiye.

fethiye castle

Although there is no exact date for the construction of Fethiye Castle, it is suggested in some sources that the Knights of Rhodes may have repaired and rebuilt it in the 15th century. In the castle, there are walls, a few old inscriptions with no information about its history, and a cistern. The castle, which offers a magnificent view of the city from above, is also worth visiting. We recommend that guests who rent a boat in Fethiye go to the castle, which is only 3 minutes away by car from the port and offers a panoramic view of Fethiye Gulf .

tlos

Tlos is a 35-kilometer drive from Fethiye. The historical Tlos ancient city is on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List and is one of the oldest settlements in the Lycian Region. It is located within the borders of Yaka Village to the east. The acropolis at the ancient city’s entrance, known as Tlawa in Hittite documents dating from the 14th century BC and Tlawa in Lycian inscriptions, impresses visitors with its naturalistic appearance. The acropolis hill’s environment is surrounded by fortifications from place to place, naturally sheltered by its steep slopes of approximately 500 meters in height. The temple tombs carved into the rocks on the slope can be seen as you ascend to Tlos castle. The most magnificent of these tombs is Bellerophontids’ tomb monument, which depicts Pegasus, the winged horse, fighting the three-headed monster Chimera. At the entrance, there are two columns, a three-part wall, a door with ornaments in the middle, and doors on both sides leading to the burial chamber. There are benches, a stadium, a bath, theatre ruins at the foot of the Acropolis. The ruins of a 9-meter-wide Lycian wall can be found on the plain at the bottom of the castle. The city walls from the Roman era can still be seen in the south of the city, with a 6-arched gate. The theatre is the most important structure in the ancient city of Tlos that is still standing. In terms of archaeological, cultural, religious, and economic significance in the historical process, the city is extremely significant in the region. In the Hittite written sources, the city is mentioned as a country, with traces of continuous settlement from the Neolithic to the Iron Age. The city is one of the most important episcopacy centres in Lycia, and its religious significance lasted until the 12th century. In the 18th century, the ancient city of Tlos, which also bears Ottoman traces, served as a crossroads for the region’s trade routes. Views of the city intertwined with nature and the majesty of its ruins are breathtaking. Summer hours are 10:00 to 19:00, winter hours are 08.30  to 3.30.

Fethiye - Araxa

The date of foundation of the ancient city of Araxa , which is located within the borders of Ren Village, 32 kilometres from Fethiye, is unknown, but it is known that it is a very old Anatolian city like other ancient cities. B.C. The fact that he fought with the ancient city of Kibera in the year 2000 gives us an idea of when Araxa was founded. In Luwian and Carian languages, the name Araxa means ‘temple with an altar.’ In Lycian inscriptions, the city is referred to as ‘Araththi.’ When discussing the Lycian League, ancient historians noted that the ancient city of Araxa was one of the 36 towns and cities that made up the union.

The city is built in a valley surrounded by mountains, with its natural walls and walls that protect it from external influences, and you can see baths, water channels, tombs, sarcophagi, and houses among the ruins.

Fethiye

These mausoleums, which are symbols of Fethiye and are located within the city’s urban fabric, were built in the 4th century BC in the name of Aminthas , Son of Hermapias . Three of these tombs, which were carved into a steep rocky slope, are temples, while the others are civil architecture examples. A door divided into four main panels, a flat and rough-hewn ceiling, and three lines in the interior of the room are depicted in the section opening to the burial chamber. The tombs, which have arched entrances, are decorated with various frescoes that are thought to reveal information about the deceased’s life. These tombs, which are located in the district with the most beautiful view, are easily accessible via steps.

If you’ve booked a gulet charter from Fethiye, the mausoleum, which you can reach in 5 minutes by car while waiting for your boat, will allow you to add a touch of history to your blue voyage vacation . We recommend that after you visit Fethiye Castle, you take the same route to the mausoleum to avoid getting stuck in traffic. As a result, you will have the opportunity to see historical ruins along the way. Summer hours are 09.00-20.00; winter hours are 08:00-17:00.

Telmessos

The theatre, which was built in the early Roman period and was repaired in the 2nd century AD, is Turkey’s oldest theatre close to the sea . As it was unearthed, the theatre, which underwent cleaning and excavation work after 1991, is suitable for 1500 people. Before boarding your rental yacht , we strongly advise you to visit the marina’s ancient theatre.

pinara

Pinara is a 33-kilometer drive from Fethiye. The city’s foundation dates back to 330-334 BC, and it is located at a distance. The city, which was also conquered by the Kingdoms of Alexander the Great and Pergamon, survived as a Roman settlement later on. The city was known to have suffered significant damage due to earthquakes in the region in the 8th century and was thus abandoned.

The bath, theatre, agora, odeon, rock tombs, upper and lower acropolis, and upper and lower acropolis make up Pinara ancient city. As the upper acropolis became insufficient in a short period of time, the lower acropolis, which was also easier to reach, was made available for settlement. Structures such as the Odeon, agora, temple, and pile tombs can be found on the lower acropolis. The fact that the majority of the rock tombs are in the shape of houses provides insight into Lycian Civil Architecture. Despite the impossibly steep slopes of the lower acropolis, it was supported by a fortification wall for both terrace construction and defence. When entering the city through the gate in the south of the city wall, it is seen that the Odeon with its back against the hillside and the agora on the flat area in front of it form the city centre. Around the water source in the lower part of the lower acropolis, piled tombs and many tombs carved into the rocks, which were largely destroyed as a result of the earthquakes experienced by the city in Antiquity, draw attention.

Visiting hours: 10.00-19.00 in summer; Winter period 08.30-17.30

letoon

This ancient city is the religious centre of Lycia , and it is located in the Kumluova District of Seydikemer, 63 kilometres from Fethiye. According to legend, the Goddess Leto, who was pregnant by Zeus, gave birth to her twin children Artemis and Apollo in Delos, then walked along the Xanthos river until she reached the source, where the Leto temple now stands. The goddess, who wishes to wash her children at the source but is prevented by the locals, turns the locals into frogs because they refuse to allow her, and this mythology is the basis for the ancient city of Letoon. The first settlement dates back to the 7th century BC, according to findings unearthed during 30 years of excavations in the city. Letoon was a political and religious centre during the Lycian unity period, as evidenced by the ruins and inscriptions found here. In the ancient city centre, three temples are lined up side by side. The Mother Goddess Leto owns the westernmost of these, which is in the ion order. The temple dedicated to Artemis in the middle is smaller than the temple dedicated to the god Apollo in the east. In the southwest west corner of the temples, there is a fountain dedicated to the Nymphe cult, and on the eastern edge of this fountain is an early Christian church. Among the ruins worth seeing in the ancient city are a stoa and a Hellenistic theater. The Lycian walking path also includes the ancient city of Letoon, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1988.

Visiting hours: 08.00-20.00 every day.

fethiye kayakoy

13 km from Fethiye. Kayakoy, located in the south and known as Karmylassos in the Ancient Period, dates to the 3rd century BC according to the available data and lived in the city until it was evacuated in 1923 as a result of the rights granted to minorities in the late Ottoman Empire. All the buildings that we watched based on the slope in the abandoned city were built by the Greeks, and after the destruction it suffered over time and natural factors, it took on the image of a ghost city.

There are 350-400 residences at the time of the city’s use, each of which is no larger than 50 m2 in terms of view and light, with two floors, the lower floors of which are usually used as cellars, and underground cisterns on the roof rainwater water are collected. There are numerous chapels, two large churches, one school building, mills, and a customs house in addition to the residences.

Fethiye Archeology Museum

Fethiye Museum, where artefacts from the region are exhibited, consists of two sections, archaeology and ethnography. The museum, where the artefacts collected from the city environment after the 1957 earthquake were stored, has been hosting its visitors since 1987. In Fethiye Museum, where numerous works from the Byzantine, Roman, Hellenistic, Archaic and Bronze Age periods are exhibited, the order is arranged chronologically. While ceramic works are exhibited to a large extent in the archaeology section, there are various hand-woven samples, handicrafts and caftans unique to the region in the ethnography section, and large stone-block artefacts, sarcophagi and the Izraza Monument are exhibited in the garden.

Visiting hours: 08.00-17.00 in winter, 08.00-19.00 in summer, Location

Fethiye Afkule

It is 17 kilometres from Fethiye’s city centre, 5 kilometres from Kayakoy. Then you can walk through the pines to get there. M.S. Afkule Monastery was carved into a 10-meter rock in the form of a two-story building and is thought to have been built in the 5th or 6th century. This monastery, which you can climb using the same natural methods that were used to carve the stairs, was built as an ordeal for a monk named Eleftherios. Even though we do not know the weather conditions on that day, the monastery, which is located at an elevation of 400 meters above sea level, appears to be unaffected by the magnificent view.

saklikent

44 km from the city centre. It is estimated that the canyon, located at a distance, was formed by geological cracking thousands of years ago. The Saklikent canyon, which was declared a national park in 1996 and protected, has a length of approximately 18 km and a height of between 200 and 600 meters. It is almost impossible to see the sky from here, as the rock gap narrows to 2 meters at some points. At the entrance of the canyon, Esen Stream greets you first. By walking on the wooden pier laid on iron bars, you reach the clean spring that springs from under the rocks. In the canyon, you can sit on the sofas built on the rushing waters, on which the local rugs and pillows are laid, and you can eat pancakes and trout while cooling your feet in the ice-cold water. If you want, you can explore the hidden paradise by walking through the canyon. It takes about 30 minutes to traverse the 5-kilometre rafting track in the canyon, where you can also raft.

Gemile Bay

20 kilometres from Fethiye’s centre. Gemile Bay near Kayakoy provides transportation to Gemiler Island , which is located at a distance. Gemile or St. Nicholas Island M.S. is located in the Oludeniz, which was known as Smybola in the Middle Ages. It has risen to prominence in the 5th century as a result of the formation of mostly religious settlements. The island became a popular destination for European and Eastern Mediterranean trade and travel ships, and it became a centre of pilgrimage for Christians. Aside from numerous churches and chapels, religious education schools were also established. There are houses on the island that serve as shelters for people who work and live outside of the religious buildings. The foundations of churches and houses were carved into the rock due to the island’s rocky nature.

While our guests from Gemile Island are on a blue cruise vacation , we can use the gulet type yacht they have rented to take an air-conditioned vehicle tour of the ancient city of Afkule Monastery , Kayakoy , Saklikent Canyon , Tlos , and Xanthos .

Cadianda

It is 25 km from the centre of Fethiye. The ancient city of Cadianda , located at 4 km, was founded on a hill on Geyran Mountain, 400 meters above the town of Uzumlu. This city, which was used as an athletics centre in ancient times, is the last city to join the Lycians. The ancient city, which dates to 3000 BC and makes a difference with its historical texture spread over a wide area, is surrounded by pine trees today. Some of the city walls surrounding the city, rock tombs and some inscriptions are among the remains dated to the earliest periods.

In addition, the Hellenistic theatre , bath, jogging track, agora, temple ruins, tombs, cisterns and dense civil architectural structures, which were repaired and used in the Roman Period, have survived to the present day.

Visiting hours: Summer period 9.00 – 19.00; Winter period 08.00 – 17.00

Xanthos

The ancient city is 63 kilometres from Fethiye’s centre, on the Fethiye – Kas highway. The administrative and religious centre of the Lycian region was the ancient city of Xanthos , which is the oldest and largest city in the mountainous Lycia province. The city was founded in BC8. a century and dates back to BC. Until the Persian invasion in 545, it was an independent city-state. When the people of Xanthos, who had heroically defended their city during the Persian invasion, realized they couldn’t stop it, they killed all their women and children, set the city on fire, and committed mass suicide in the flames. Eighty families who survived the massacre, as well as immigrants from other places, rebuilt the city. A fire that erupted 100 years later wreaked havoc on Xanthos once more. Despite this, the city, which was re-established, remained an important centre for a long time as a result of its positive relations with the western world. When the Athenians objected to their tax demands in 429 BC, they were dragged into a war that would destroy their city.

Following Alexander the Great’s arrival in the region in 333 BC, the largely Hellenized city of BC. The Ptolemies invaded in 309. BC will come later. Syria’s King III was born in the year 197. The city that Antiochus conquered enjoyed a prosperous period. II. B.C. In the 19th century, Xanthos became the capital of the Lycian League. In 42 BC, the city was conquered by the Romans, the Lycian Acropolis to the west was destroyed, and the city’s inhabitants were put to the sword. Markus Aurelius, the Roman Emperor, rebuilt the city a year after the event. With the start of Arab raids, Xanthos, which was the centre of the bishopric during the Byzantine period, became a part of the region. Unfortunately, the city has devolved into a disaster hotspot in the truest sense of the term. In the ancient city of Xanthos, the two acropolises are surrounded by fortifications with different knitting systems. The Roman Period Theatre is located to the north of the Lycian acropolis. To the west of the theatre, the city’s most interesting ruins can be found. The first features the deceased’s family on a high rectangular monolithic pedestal, as well as Harpy reliefs, which are female-bodied, bird-winged creatures believed to carry the souls of the dead to the afterlife. A Lycian sarcophagus from the 4th century stands next to this monumental tomb. The Roman Age agora is a large square-shaped area at the end of the theatre, surrounded on three sides by shops. An inscription written in Lycian and Greek on its rectangular body, similar to the Harpy Monument, can be found in the northeast corner of the agora. The mausoleum from the fifth-century rises. It is possible to see many rock tombs and pedestal tombs side by side in the Roman acropolis. Except for the pedestals of the Lion Tomb, Pavaya and Merehi sarcophagi on the southern skirts of this area, all of them are exhibited in the British Museum. On the right side of the ramp leading to today’s ruins, only the foundations of the BC. The Nereid Monument with a temple plan belonging to the 4th century is one of the famous monuments of Xanthos, which is exhibited in the British Museum. Summer Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 19:30 p.m., Winter Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 17:30 p.m.

fethiye gulet

Everyone likes a sunshine holiday. When it comes to holidays, Turkey has so much to offer. The fascinating city of Istanbul with the Blue Mosque, the Grand Bazaar, and the city’s other famous landmarks is one idea of a holiday. Still, Turkey tours offer much more than Istanbul.

Fethiye – Antalya

Fethiye Bay, Turkey

Day 1 – Fethiye

Start your Turkey gulet trip in the laid-back city of Fethiye, site of ancient Telmessos. Explore this 2000-year-old site by visiting the huge Tomb of Amyntas or touring the excellent Fethiye museum. Or, if relaxing is your thing, why not try a Hamam at the famous Old Turkish Bath.

Day 2 – Butterfly Valley – Ölüdeniz – Gemiler Island

Butterfly Valley is simply breath-taking. Sapphire waters are sheltered by steep valleys as if they are trying to protect this beauty from the outside world. Drop anchor and plunge into the pristine seas. Your boat then sets sail to Ölüdeniz where you can swim or kayak around the peaceful lagoon. Your boat then sets sail to Gemiler Island, a beautiful spot famed for churches built between the fourth and sixth centuries. It’s also known as St Nicholas Island because of the belief that it was the location of the original tomb of St Nicholas (that’s Father Christmas to you and me!)

Day 3 – Kaputaş Beach – Yeşilköy

Kaputaş Beach is the place you’ll see on most Visit Turkey adverts: sapphire sea, white sand and dramatic cliffs, it’s reminiscent of the pristine beach of the Maldives. After a dip in the crystal clear waters, your next stop is the beautiful and peaceful Yeşilköy.

Day 4 – Kekova

Kekova is the base for exploring Üçağız Cove, home to one of the most intriguing of ancient sites in Turkey. Due to an earthquake the ancient city of Apollonia (Dolchiste) is now 2 metres under water. Explore Turkey’s famous sunken city as well as some stunning, partially submerged Lycian tombs. And as if that wasn’t enough, Üçağız Cove is a prime turtle spotting territory.

Day 5 – Olympos

Olympos

Day 6 – Antalya

The main city of the Turkish Riviera, this stop is a great opportunity to explore the cultural richness of modern-day Turkey and the historical sites of the region. Antalya is home to some of the best modern restaurants in the country. Swot up on the history of the region in the wonderful Antalya Museum or get soaked, scrubbed and massaged at one of the many great Hamams (Turkish Bath).

Day 7 – Kemer

Kemer is one of the greenest holiday resorts in the south of Turkey. Surrounded by pine forests and set at the foot of the Taurus Mountains, it’s one of the most popular spots for nature walk lovers. Stretch your legs and stock up on fresh mountain air.

Day 8 – Porto Ceneviz – Phaselis (Tekirova)

Enjoy the peace and seclusion of Porto Ceneviz (or Genoese). Soak up the sun on deck and plunge into the clear water. Later in the day your captain will take you along the coast, where you can opt to visit the stunning ruins of Phaselis or enjoy the stunning beach and sea at Tekirova.

Day 9 – Adrasan – Finike

Kemer

Day 10 – Gökkaya Cove – Demre (Myra)

You’ll spend the morning in the quiet and stunning Gökkaya Cove. After which, your boat will set sail to Demre, the ancient city of Myra. Home of St Nicholas (yes, Santa Claus is Turkish), Myra was one of the most important cities of ancient Lycia. Explore the Byzantine St Nicholas of Myra church or the rock tombs further in land.

Day 11 – Kaş

One of the pearls of the Mediterranean, Kaş is a charming town that’s both tranquil and very stylish. Reminiscent of a French village, enjoy the winding lanes, the Bougainvillea covered buildings and a host of excellent cafes and restaurants.

Day 12 – Kalkan

Kalkan

Day 13 – Turunçpınarı – Samanlık Cove

A day of sun, sea and seclusion. Enjoy the natural setting and sounds of birdsong as you swim and relax on deck in the beautiful coves of Turunçpınarı and Samanlık.

Day 14 – Kızılada

Spend the day swimming in the turquoise coves of Kızılada (Red Island), so called because of the colour of the beach at sunset. A final day of complete relaxation and a chance to reflect on the amazing journey you’ve just taken.

Day 15 – Fethiye

After enjoying a leisurely breakfast, you’ll disembark at 10am with an air relaxation and head full of memories from the boat cruise of a lifetime.

Fethiye - Marmaris - Fethiye Gulet Charter Route

fethiye gulet

When you arrive at Fethiye and board your yacht towards midafternoon, spend some time in port and enjoy the city before you set sail. You will have some time to enjoy since your yacht will not set sail until the morning. This is a great time to look around the small city and enjoy pre-sailing shopping, also a great chance to let your chef know what specialties you might want on the voyage that were not included in the itinerary. You will dine on board the yacht, berthed in the Marina and enjoy an amazing first night under the stars of the Mediterranean sea.

fethiye gulet

The biggest island in the Gulf of Fthiye is Tersane Island, known also as Shipyard Island. This bay has a 100 meter deep channel that was used by the Ottoman navy, hence the name shipyard island. The bay area has a lot of coves and towards the east lies the Summer harbor. The west side of the bay is not used much due to the strong winds that prevail most of the year. There is an ancient ruined town nearby called Telandria, and if you want to stretch your legs, this is a great place to do so.

fethiye gulet

Within the Gulf of Fethiye lies the twin bays of Aga Limani. This is a wonderful place to anchor, and are prefect for swimming, fishing and just enjoying the day. The waters here are cool since they are connected to an underwater fresh water stream that comes down from the mountains. The seawater here is crystal clear, but if you prefer to visit inland, then take an hours walk to the ancient city of Lyda. There you will find a lot of archeological discoveries and the path leading there is exceptionally delightful.

fethiye gulet

Just west of Marmaris you come to the blue flag awarded and shelter Kadirga Harbour. Aptly awarded since it has amazing clear waters and provides a nice respite for a quick dip.

fethiye gulet

Marmaris is a world renowned Turkish holiday resort and coastal town. The name means “Turquoise Coast” and its aptly named. Maramaris is a natural harbor and contains a major port, it can hold up to 800 boats and is considered to be one of the main starting points for any yacht charter. The city of Marmaris is rich in history and steeped in ancient culture. This is a wonderful and exciting starting point for all tourists that want to sail the Mediterranean, Aegean and Adriatic seas. Apart from the incredibly inviting waters, you get to enjoy all the modern amenities of a major tourist town with local cuisine, day and night attractions as well as access to the amenities of the harbor and port. This is a perfect time to take stock of your provisions and add any extra items that you might want before you set sail.

fethiye gulet

Between Marmaris and Dalyan lays the wonderful bay of Ekincik. What is most beautiful in this bay is small Iztuzu Beach. Iztuzu Beach is closed at night since it is a nesting ground for the loggerhead turtle, otherwise it provides a carefree pebble and sand beach environment during the day, when only a few yachts are moored off its side. Just after the beach you will find the Dalyan Delta, and this is an explorers dream, with its Lycian tombs and the ancient ruined city of Kaunos. If you prefer a more active respite, then take to some of the water sports offered in the bay of Ekincik. Apart from these three activities, which should be enough, there is also a short brisk walk along the western banks of the Delta that will provide you with a chance to spot a wild boar foraging for food.

fethiye gulet

In the Gulf of Fethiye lie the Yasica islands, these are uninhabited islands that are perfect for swimming, visiting and just sailing around. Most of these islands have secluded beaches that provide a private relaxation environment, and you can while away the hours swimming and enjoying the quiet. Apart from relaxing, you can also enjoy a lot of water sports here, especially child safe water sports that provide a great daytime activity for your kids. The beaches and sea shores are stony, so you should come prepared with proper sea footwear. Some of the islands are so close to each other, that you can swim from one to the other, which provides a lot of exhilaration, as well as competitiveness. The nearest port is located at Gocek, and that is also where most of the day trippers come from. Try to stay for sunset, this is when the cameras come out and some of the most romantic and breathtaking shots can be taken during these hours of the late day.

fethiye gulet

Although this island is now called Prince Island, it was originally known as Domuz Island, which means Port Island, named after the abundance of wild pigs that flourished there. Today, Prince Island boasts no pigs, but does have a tranquil splendor.

fethiye gulet

Yachtsmen love Sarsala Bay since it is a natural bay providing great swimming opportunities as well as a good place for overnight anchoring. The bay includes a pontoon that leads to a restaurant, and the inland scenery is delightful. There is a valley that leads inland through a dense forest of trees. The beach itself is stony, so come prepared.

fethiye gulet

Gocek is a starting point for the local 12 Islands Tour and an island of the same name is closest to the harbour, perhaps 10 minutes sailing? Those not wanting to sail can visit its beach where many will stop during their tour of the islands. There are refreshments available on Gocek Island throughout the sailing season. If you wish, you can camp perfectly safely under the trees ans simply spend a relaxing time.

With Dalaman International airport only 20- minutes away, Gocek is a jewel of a town nestled between Fethiye and Dalyan. What puts Gocek on the map is its 6 marinas and the bay area is also a harbor for islands that provide ample anchorage for many yachts. This amazing harbor town is home to Super Yachts and is a great starting point for many a yacht charter in the Mediterranean.

fethiye gulet

Kizil island is considered to be a magical place at sunset. The islands name means red and the grounds color is red. However, it is at sunset when the whole island transforms, all the stones turn crimson red, providing you with an amazing photographic shoot. The island is uninhabited, apart from a lighthouse that is located on the southern tip. The Deliktas isles re located to the north west and are considered to be another great place to anchor, but for swimming and fishing.

fethiye gulet

Quite close to Fethiye is Samanlik Bay, this small bay is considered to be a great location for anchoring, even when Fethiye is close by. The slopes leading down to the bay are covered with trees and the waters are cool and inviting. This is a regular anchor location for many yachts, and is if you want to visit Fethiye, its just a short sail away.

fethiye gulet

After completing your exciting voyage, arriving at Fethiye for the return flight home, take a moment to enjoy the city one last time. If possible, don’t go back immediately, walk around the market site, soak in the last days of Turkey. Enjoy the final shopping and sense the wonderful smells and taste of local cuisine. If you have the time, stay overnight and enjoy one last romantic evening, or exciting bar night life. Once you leave, the memories will remain for a lifetime.
