Plymouth Sailing School & Plymouth Powerboating is an RYA Training Centre established in 1957 and is one of the UK’s longest established sea schools. We are proud of our reputation for safety conscious fun and professionalism. We work hard to accommodate all of our customers requirements from the complete beginner to the Professional Yachtmaster.

Following a recent merger with SeaRegs Training, the school has relocated just along the water to Turnchapel Wharf in a new purpose build training centre. We have 3 air conditioned classrooms including a Navigation simulator suite and a fully equipped workshop for Diesel Engine courses.

This Plymouth Sailing School and Plymouth Powerboating website concentrates on the Power and Motorboat schemes, we also have a Plymouth Sailing website dedicated to the Yacht scheme or the SeaRegs Training website for MCA, SQA & RYA  commercial qualifications.

Powerboat p1 announces partnerships for upcoming race season.

With the countdown underway to the opening P1 Offshore event in Cocoa Beach next month, Powerboat P1 has unveiled an array of sponsors and partners for the new season. It features a mix of existing and new sponsors across a wide variety of industries – from energy drinks to insurance, from trailers to vodka.

A year ago it was announced that Monster Energy, known for its sponsorship and support for sports events and teams, had become the Official Energy Drink of Powerboat P1 in a multi-year deal that sees the brand become the exclusive energy drink of the APBA National Championship, jointly promoted by P1 and Race World Offshore, the UIM Class 1 World Championship and the P1 AquaX USA National Championship. With the agreement now in its second year, Monster Energy will receive extensive signage opportunities on race weekends across the 2024 season, together with sampling opportunities within all P1 and RWO event areas and at boat parades, VIP hospitality and exposure through P1’s national TV broadcast deals with Bally Sports Regional Sports Networks. As part of the agreement, it will continue to be the title sponsor of the St. Pete Powerboat Grand Prix, which this year moves to the end of the season, and through a separate deal Monster Energy will again be the title sponsor of the M CON Racing Team in this season’s UIM Class 1 race series.

Premium lifestyle vodka brand Good Boy Vodka, founded by Class 1 racer Alex Pratt in 2020, embarks on the third year of its exclusive partnership with P1 that brings together two of Alex’s great loves – business and powerboats – in a three-year sponsorship deal. As the Official Vodka of P1 Offshore racing, the brand receives significant branding and sampling opportunities at race events and the two partners actively cross-promote on social and digital platforms. P1 works closely with Alex and his team to help him meet his primary business objective of growing Good Boy Vodka across the nation as well as supporting his work with The Good Boy Foundation charity. “Racing in Class 1 is not only a big passion for me but also a significant marketing arm for our brand that sets us apart from our competition,” explained Pratt.

The XINSURANCE name is now a very familiar one in the powerboat racing world and the leading insurance broker will again sponsor Powerboat P1 this season.. Established some 40 years ago in Sandy, Utah and regarded as an industry innovator offering customized speciality liability insurance for businesses and individuals, XINSURANCE is an Official Partner and its President & CEO, Rick J. Lindsey is keen to help build, showcase and highlight the excitement of P1 Offshore racing and marine motorsports. An exciting element of the sponsorship is that P1 is able to use a seat in the A-Star XINSURANCE helicopter, designated the Official Broadcast Helicopter, for a race commentator or photographer.

Mercury Racing and Powerboat P1 have had a close relationship since 2017, and last season the Wisconsin-based marine engine manufacturer celebrated its 50th anniversary by sponsoring the Mercury Racing MidWest Challenge promoted by P1. Earlier this month, P1 announced the renewal and expansion of its partnership with Mercury Racing that sees the leading global provider of high-performance marine propulsion systems continue as the Official Engine of the UIM Class 1 World Championship and Powerboat P1 racing. P1 CEO Azam Rangoonwala said: “The partnership has expanded each year and it adds significant value to our business. The Mercury Racing 1100 Competition engine is the Official Power of the Class 1 series and the race teams will continue to receive onsite technical support this season through Mercury Racing’s Race Support Team, underscoring its commitment to the sport and its products.”

Powerboat P1 has this month unveiled a significant sponsorship deal with Experience Kissimmee, the official tourist authority for Osceola County in central Florida with its world-famous theme parks and attractions, that encompasses P1 Offshore racing, the UIM Class1 series and the P1 AquaX USA National Championship. A separate announcement will be made later this month with full details of the agreement.

P1 has also announced the continuation of its partnership agreement with Icom America. It sees the international, advanced communications company become the official marine radio communications of P1 Offshore powerboat racing and the P1 AquaX personal watercraft series for the fourth year in succession. Ray Novak of Icom commented: “As pioneers in marine and aviation communication technology, we’ve found a kindred spirit in P1 racing, where precision and safety are paramount. Our collaboration ensures that cutting-edge Icom radios remain an integral part of the P1 racing circuit, providing reliable communication and peace of mind to competitors and racers alike.”

In January this year, P1 and MYCO Trailers jointly announced the extension of their established partnership across the 2024 offshore racing season. The long-standing relationship gives MYCO exposure though P1’s race events, television broadcasts, marketing and PR programs. “MYCO Trailers has been the leading supplier of trailers to the powerboat racing market for 50 years , and racers feel confident with MYCO getting them from race to race,” said its Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Denis McComb. Azam Rangoonwala added: “Strategic partnerships are an integral part of our business and this is a very natural relationship that delivers tangible results for both parties.”

Southern Racing Fuels (SRF) and Sunoco Race Fuels will be partnering with P1again this season in a two-year deal as the official race fuel and exclusive fuel supplier. SRF has a long history of supporting offshore racing dating back to 1986 and will supply Sunoco Race Fuels for all P1 events. As the largest manufacturer of racing gasolines in the world, Sunoco has a 40-year track record of winning performances. “Rick Williams and SRF have been fuelling our sport for many years and provide a superb service for promoters and racers alike,” said Azam Rangoonwala.

The latest P1 sponsor is a leader in next-generation lithium marine batteries. Abyss Battery has been revolutionizing the marine battery industry by designing and manufacturing the most advanced, innovative, high-performance marine lithium batteries. Nicholas Vasilaros, founder and CEO of the Florida-based company, and Powerboat P1 will jointly be announcing details of the sponsorship later this month.

The P1 Offshore season will kick off with the four-day (May 16-19) Thunder On Cocoa Beach event on Florida’s Space Coast, before heading north to the Lake of the Ozarks in central Missouri at the end of May.

The Cornish 100 - Offshore Powerboat Race returns to Falmouth

Falmouth will host the UKOPRA Offshore Powerboat Race Championship over the weekend of the 28th – 30th of July 2023.

This will be the second consecutive offshore powerboat race event organised and managed by the Eastwood Racing team. The 2022 event enjoyed by many, even though it was the last race of the calendar and just going into the winter season, 15 boats from class 1 to class 3 turned up in Falmouth and successfully raced their respective classes. 

This year looks set to be bigger and better with more boats competing and more onshore participation.

Organisers for the event said: "This year we have managed to acquire the 'Cornish 100' Trophy dating back to 1964. The Cornish 100 was an offshore race held between 1964 – 1968 from Falmouth and Plymouth, in 1966 only 4 of the 18 boats finished this prestigious race.

The race originally started at Black Rock just off Pendennis Point and went up to Plymouth, a 100-mile race! Notable winners include Tommy Sopwith in 1965 and Fiona Gore in 1968."

The Eastwood Racing team are a local racing team, owned and piloted by Gary Aldington from Eastwood Garage in Penryn. Their boat, Vintage Torque is a class-1 boat that can exceed 100mph on a good day. Gary is a true ambassador of the sport and has worked hard to bring the event to Falmouth for the second year running.

Spectators will be able to watch the start of the race in Falmouth as the boats speed through Carrick Roads between Black Rock and Pendennis Point and watch them go offshore.

The main racing will be on Saturday 29th July with Sunday 30th as a backup if the weather postpones the race on Saturday. On Friday the 28th of July, there may be a chance to get up close to some of the boats to see them, more details of this and the timings of the race will be shared on the Eastwood Racing Facebook page closer to the event.

Boats will be arriving in Falmouth, with some hopefully being on display. (details to follow)

Saturday 29th July – RACE DAY

RACE TIME TBC -  Class 1,2 &3 races will start off at Pendennis Point. The boats will run out towards the centre of the bay and then offshore heading up to the Eddystone Light house off Plymouth and back to Falmouth (weather dependent, a shorter course may be run if the sea state is deemed too severe).

This is the closest start line to the shore in the whole offshore race calendar, organsiers say spectators will be in for a treat with V8 noises, speed, and rooster tails of spray guaranteed.

All being well the boats should be finishing in the bay approximately 60-90 minutes later. The best place to view this will be from the Pendennis Point car park.

The boats will head back into the marina after their respective races where they can be viewed again from Discovery Quay. There will be a prizegiving and awards ceremony after the race, more details to follow.

A team comprised of Chinese architects Hang Guo and Shanshan Li have used the history of theatre and circus to drive their proposal for a new Moscow Circus School. Moscow police chief will run for county sheriff

Feb. 22—Moscow Police Chief James Fry announced this week he is running for Latah County sheriff.

On the same day Fry announced he is retiring from the Moscow agency in May, Fry told the Moscow City Council on Tuesday night that he is planning to run against Sheriff Richie Skiles.

"I'll be putting my name on that ballot to move into maybe a different era of law enforcement and help move things along," Fry told the council.

Skiles confirmed Wednesday that he is planning to seek reelection. Skiles was first elected in 2016.

Skiles said he wants to continue moving the Sheriff"s Office forward for the Latah County residents and employees.

"I feel like I still have something to offer," he said.

Following Fry's retirement announcement, the city of Moscow put out a news release saying it will begin the process of selecting Fry's replacement during the next few weeks.

Fry, who is in his mid-50s, began his career as a reserve officer with the Moscow Police Department in 1993 and was hired as a patrol officer in June 1995.

The candidate filing period for Latah County runs from March 4-15.
