Rolex lug-to-lug size guide [list of top models].

When talking about watch sizes, we normally only talk about diameter and sometimes also the thickness. But the thing is that there are a lot of different aspects that affect how a watch wears on the wrist. And oftentimes, only looking at the diameter of a watch doesn’t give an accurate idea of its actual size and how it feels on the wrist.

Something that should also be taken into consideration as it has a large effect on how the watch sits on your wrist is the lug-to-lug measurement. In this article, we will talk a little bit about why lug-to-lug is important when determining the size, and also list the lug-to-lug of some of the most popular Rolex watches

What is lug-to-lug?

The lug-to-lug is the distance between the top top of the lug and the very bottom, as seen in the photo below. It is often confused with lug width, but this is the distance between the lugs, where the strap or bracelet is attached. These are not the same thing.

Why lug-to-lug matters

There are some general guidelines for how big your watch should be on the wrist. Anyone is of course welcome to wear how large or small a watch they would like, but these guidelines are meant to help people choose a watch that sits perfectly on the wrist and doesn’t look awkward in any way.

One of the key rules of thumb is that the lugs of a watch should never protrude from your wrist. If the lugs protrude from the wrist, they almost always tend to look too big and awkward.

With this said, the diameter is important, but lug-to-lug is something that should not be neglected.

Rolex lug-to-lug

Now that you know the lug-to-lug is important for getting a better idea of how a watch sits on the wrist, how do you find it?

Interestingly enough, many brands, including Rolex, do not provide the lug-to-lug measurements in their product specifications. This is something we have scratched our heads many times about, and it is actually quite strange that Rolex and most other brands do not share the lug-to-lug measurements when it is actually such an important piece of information.

But don’t worry, because Rolex doesn’t share this information, we have created a list of some of the most common and most popular Rolex watches and their lug-to-lug measurements.

It is worth keeping in mind that because these are not official measurements, you do not get the same ”consistency” as measurements may vary depending on how they are measured, what has been used when measuring, etc. At the same time, we all know that Rolex’s watch dimensions in reality aren’t always what the specifications say on paper anyway. But they will work as indicative, even if they are not accurate down to 1/100th of a millimeter. So whilst different sources may vary by a few 0. mm, it is close enough to give an indicative idea.

Before you buy a watch, you want to make sure that you have carefully researched every single aspect, especially if it is a Rolex watch for thousands of dollars. You have thickness and you know the diameter. Together with the lug-to-lug, you have a pretty good idea of whether the watch is for you. Keep in mind, however, that things like case shape, bracelet, etc. are also things that do affect how a watch sits on the wrist.

Owner review: Rolex Yacht-Master 37 268621

A true sleeper.

The Yacht-Master line of Rolex has never been a hugely popular series from the acclaimed watch house. That is not necessarily a bad thing though. This was actually the main reason that I got attracted to the Rolex Yacht-Master 37 268621 in the first place.

There are very few of these that you will actually see in the wild.

The Rolex Yacht-Master 37 268621 has such an elegant profile, it is similar to the case of a modern Datejust and Daytona with lugs slopping down and hugging one’s wrist. So when I got a call from my Rolex authorized dealer last year (I waited for a week…. Yes you read it right, waited only for a week) I didn’t think twice and drove myself the very next day to pick it up in person.

I picked up the less popular 37mm two-tone rose gold version and I absolutely love it. The Rolex rose gold is so warm that one tends to get mesmerized by it (at least I do). The elegance of the profile, shine and tone of the rose gold and weight does not disappoint. I wear this in the office and on the beach… literally an incredibly versatile timepiece.

A lot of people might be wondering why I opted for the Rolex Yacht-Master 37 268621 rather than the popular 40mm. I always prefer the more modest sized watches and thought this one was a good fit on my 6.5 inch wrist. I have a number of 40mm watches in my current collection and I thought the 37mm would be a good addition for a more “classy touch”. It is still a mystery to me why this line has not shoot up in popularity and value. Something deep inside me would prefer to keep it that way… a hidden gem that only a few know and appreciate!

• Availability - Yes you can still get it from the Rolex AD compared to other sports model of the said watch house.
• Two-Tone Watches are polarizing and not for everyone.
• The 37mm might be a tad too small for some wrists.

If you’re a fan of Rolex watches, you know that the brand offers a wide range of case sizes across its various collections. Some Rolex collections even have different sizes within the same line. In recent years, Rolex has not only added more case sizes to its lineup but also changed some, which also alters the width of the lugs. 

Knowing the case size and lug size of a particular watch is the first step when  choosing the right strap to pair it with. So we’ve compiled this handy guide to Rolex sizes, detailing all the case diameters and lug widths of popular modern models. 

Rolex Air-King Size

Rolex redesigned the Air-King from the ground up in 2016 to feature a larger case, a fresh dial design, and a new movement. In 2022, the Air-King underwent a subtle revamp to include crown guards and a slightly wider lug width.

Smooth Sailing with the Rolex Yacht-Master 37

Because of all the excitement caused by the launch of the steel and ceramic Daytona ref. 116500LN at Baselworld 2016, it’s easy to forget that there were other new Rolex watches there too. Case in point is the highly attractive, yet somewhat overlooked, Yacht-Master 37 ref. 268622. The ref. 286622 is the smaller version of the Yacht-Master 40 ref. 116622 with the exact same color palette—making these a great pair of matching his and her Rolex watches.  With warmer weather finally on the horizon, let’s dive into the nautical-inspired Yacht-Master 37 ref. 268622.

The Beauty of the Rolesium Yacht-Master 37 

As its name suggests, the Yacht-Master 37 ref. 286622 sports a very wearable 37mm case—perfectly suitable for women. Alternatively, men who prefer a more restrained watch size can certainly wear this particular Yacht-Master too. Dubbed by Rolex as “Rolesium”, this term refers to the use of both stainless steel and platinum on the Yacht-Master.

Both the Oyster case and Oyster bracelet are constructed from stainless steel for optimal robustness and sportiness, while the platinum rotating bezel amps up the luxuriousness. While this Yacht-Master 37 is monochromatic, it is far from boring thanks to different shades and textures. For instance, the matt sandblasted platinum on the bezel is a stunning contrast to the glossy raised numerals. Also, the center polished links of the steel Oyster bracelet pops next to the brushed steel links flanking it. Furthermore, the dark rhodium dial has a sunburst finish, which plays beautifully in the light.

That moody gray dial benefits from a subtle flash of color. And the turquoise seconds hand and turquoise “Yacht-Master” label is the perfect color choice. Encircling the periphery of the dial are the large lume plots with white gold surrounds, in addition to the date window at 3 o’clock. Naturally, this being a Rolex, the date display is magnified by the brand’s iconic Cylops lens affixed to the crystal sapphire protecting the dial. Finally, sitting at the center of the dial is the pair of luminescent Mercedes-style hands .

The Caliber 2236 at the heart of the Yacht-Master 37

Powering the Rolesium Yacht-Master 37 is the Rolex Caliber 2236 automatic movement. As with all modern Rolex calibers, this is an in-house mechanical movement. It is, of course, a COSC-certified movement, but beyond that, it’s also a “Superlative Chronometer” due to Rolex’s more stringent parameters. In fact, the Caliber 2236 boasts a precision rate of -2/+2 sec/day, while the COSC threshold is only -4/+6 seconds per day.

The functions of the Caliber 2236 include the time and date . But, it also has the instantaneous date feature—meaning that the date “jumps” to the next one at midnight rather than a slow gradual turning of the disc. Additionally, the hacking feature—where the seconds hand comes to a complete stop when the winding crown is out—allows for more precise time adjustments.

The Yacht-Master’s bidirectional rotatable 60-minute graduated bezel is made entirely from precious metals or fitted with a Cerachrom insert in high-tech ceramic. The raised polished numerals and graduations stand out clearly against a matt, sand-blasted background.

This functional bezel – which allows the wearer to calculate, for example, the sailing time between two buoys – is also a key component in the model’s distinctive visual identity.

The long-awaited Rolex Yacht-Master in RLX Titanium

• After much anticipation, Rolex releases the first production Yacht-Master in RLX titanium
• The 42mm case is totally brushed, save for some wide, polished lug chamfers
• Powered by the 3235 calibre, the Yacht-Master RLX Titanium has a power reserve of 70 hours

First spotted on the wrist of Sir Ben Ainslie, Rolex has finally released the Yacht-Master 42mm in RLX titanium. This was almost confirmed when the Crown presented their Deepsea Challenge last year, and is certainly a release that will please many.

The new Yacht-Master 42 features a brushed finish throughout its RLX titanium construction, and this matte vibe continues to the Cerachrom bezel insert, too. To stand out from the non-reflective backdrop, the raised markers and numerals are highly polished, somewhat helping the legibility. Furthermore, the dial is completely matte too, while the signature Mercedes hands and mix of circular, rectangular and triangular indices are all in 18k white gold.

Even though the finish of the case is uniform, Rolex don’t fail to spice it up a little. The tops of the lugs have sharp chamfers, while the crown guards, crown and bezel sport the only polished finishes found anywhere in the watch. Another rarity for Rolex’s sports models is the new crystal. Its sapphire construction and presence of a cyclops won’t be a surprise, but it now also features anti-reflective coating.

While Sir Ainslie’s Yacht-Master sported a strap, the production RLX titanium model has a matching titanium Oyster bracelet, complete with an Oysterlock clasp and Easylink extension system. A new feature for this bracelet is the inclusion of ceramic inserts inside the links, enhancing its flexibility and longevity.

The screw-down crown helps the Yacht-Master reach 100 metres of water resistance. It operates the calibre 3235, released in 2015 and first seen in the Yacht-Master in 2019, featuring all the Rolex bells and whistles you’d expect – a Chronergy escapement, Paraflex shock absorbers and Parachrom hairspring. The automatic calibre is not extensively decorated, and will beat for up to 70 hours hidden behind the closed caseback.

Hi! This is the airport of the Russian city - Krasnodar. Redesigned for XP-12. Added new textures of the apron, taxiways and runway. Added 3D trees and grass that change color depending on the season. Ground traffic and ATC services have been implemented

The roughness of the coating is realized depending on the type of coating. Traffic is smooth on the asphalt, shaking on broken slabs. For a more complete feeling of the effect, it is recommended to use XP Realistic

This looks beautiful!! Great work.

The only improvement I could think of, is to use less external libraries and use the default XP assets instead.

I tried very hard to use as few third-party libraries as possible, but unfortunately there are still not enough objects in XP12 that are really needed for the airfield, such as the ILS system
