North Sumatra will host a Formula 1 Powerboat race event on Lake Toba from Feb. 24 to 26 with 10 teams competing.

Governor Edy Ramayadi expects at least 3,000 foreign visitors to attend the event and hoped that it would boost the province’s tourist industry and economy.

“This is a big event. As host, we are ready to organize this international event successfully,” Edy said on Wednesday.

The F1 Powerboat World Championship is an international motorboat racing competition for powerboats organized by the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM). 

The governor predicted that the race would bring around Rp 212 billion (US$13.8 million) in profit from jobs, accommodation, transportation and micro, small and medium enterprises as well as other tourist sectors.

North Sumatra Police chief Insp. Gen. Panca Putra Simanjuntak said the police and the Indonesian Military (TNI) had prepared security measures for the event.

Lake Toba Gears Up for International F1 Powerboat 2024

Jakarta . The International F1 Powerboat 2024 race is set to take place at Lake Toba in Balige, Toba District, North Sumatra, on March 2-3, 2024.

A total of 18 international racers from around 10 countries will participate in the event at one of the biggest lakes in Southeast Asia and one of the deepest in the world, according to the organizers.

Last year, the event had a positive impact on the economy, generating Rp 1.68 trillion in revenue and attracting around 100,000 tourists to one of Indonesia's super-priority tourist destinations.

Maya Watono, Director of Marketing and Tourism Programs at state-owned tourism company Aviasi Pariwisata Indonesia (InJourney), said thousands of tickets have been prepared for the event.

"F1 Powerboat will present a phenomenal international water sports competition against the backdrop of the beautiful Lake Toba. Visitors can also witness various cultural festivals and shop at small and medium enterprises, as well as performances by top-notch bands that will bring vibrancy to the event," said Maya Watono on Monday.

She explained that F1 Powerboat Lake Toba tickets are divided into three categories: festival tickets priced at Rp 200,000 ($13), grandstand A, and B each priced at Rp 500,000. 

In addition, the public can witness the Aquabike Indonesia Championship (AIC) jetski racing event, which will also be held simultaneously with the F1 Powerboat event.

Around 20 national racers will participate in this event, providing an opportunity for athletes to enhance their performance in the upcoming Aquabike World Championship at the same location.

Not only will it feature international racing events, but there will also be a local boat racing competition to revive the local Batak tradition called " Solu Bolon " or dragon boat racing.

Indonesia aims to increase domestic trips by 1.25 billion visits to 5 billion in 2024 with tourism revenue reaching Rp 3,500 trillion through various international events.

Dikenal sebagai langganan tuan rumah ajang sport tourism   kelas dunia, tidak heran jika banyak perlombaan internasional yang diselenggarakan di Indonesia tiap tahunnya. Satu di antaranya adalah ajang balap perahu super cepat kelas dunia, F1 Powerboat 2024, yang akan kembali digelar di Danau Toba, Sumatra Utara pada 2-3 Maret 2024.

Tahun ini merupakan kedua kalinya Danau Toba menjadi tuan rumah ajang F1 Powerboat. Sebelumnya, F1 Powerboat telah sukses diselenggarakan di Danau Toba pada 24-26 Februari 2023. Event berskala internasional tersebut berhasil meningkatkan citra dan daya tarik pariwisata Danau Toba ke kancah internasional.

Kembali terpilihnya Danau Toba sebagai tuan rumah ajang balap perahu super cepat kelas dunia ini bukan tanpa alasan. Mengingat, pada tahun sebelumnya, F1 Powerboat berhasil mencetak banyak pencapaian dan memberikan multiplier effect bagi masyarakat sekitar Danau Toba. Terutama dalam mendorong perekonomian masyarakat di sekitar danau vulkanik terbesar di dunia yang telah ditetapkan sebagai Destinasi Pariwisata Super Prioritas (DPSP) satu ini.

Untuk mengingat kembali, F1 Powerboat Danau Toba 2023 diikuti 20 pembalap dari beberapa negara, antara lain: Uni Emirat Arab (UEA), Perancis, Italia, Portugal, Swedia, hingga Norwegia. Ajang perlombaan perahu cepat tersebut berhasil menarik perhatian wisatawan mancanegara untuk berkunjung ke Danau Toba, untuk merasakan langsung adrenalin dan keseruan para pembalap memacu perahu dengan kecepatan lebih dari 220 km/jam tersebut.

Kesuksesan ajang perlombaan yang diselenggarakan di area Pelabuhan Muliaraja Napitupulu dan Lapangan Sisingamangaraja, Balige kala itu patut diacungi jempol. F1 Powerboat Danau Toba 2023 berhasil melampaui target kunjungan wisatawan dari yang telah ditargetkan sebelumnya.

Selain itu, F1 Powerboat Danau Toba 2023 juga berdampak langsung pada kenaikan jumlah kunjungan di bandara-bandara yang ada di Sumatra Utara, seperti 29.099 penumpang di Bandara Internasional Silangit, dan 485.858 penumpang tiba di Bandara Internasional Kualanamu. Hal ini pun berdampak pada tingkat keterisian penginapan di Balige yang mencapai 100%.

Hebatnya lagi, F1 Powerboat 2023 disaksikan oleh 180 juta pasang mata melalui berbagai media. Baik itu media sosial, broadcasting , dan media-media lainnya. Tentunya, seluruh pencapaian tersebutlah yang akhirnya mendorong Danau Toba sebagai salah satu destinasi wisata di Indonesia yang sukses menjadi perbincangan di dunia internasional, khususnya dalam menggelar ajang sport tourism .

Hal Baru di F1 Powerboat Danau Toba 2024

F1 Powerboat Danau Toba 2024 pun diprediksi tidak kalah meriah dari perlombaan tahun lalu. Berlangsung selama dua hari, ajang balap perahu super cepat kali ini rencananya akan diikuti 18 pembalap dari 10 negara di dunia. 

Harapannya, F1 Powerboat Danau Toba 2024 dapat kembali memberikan multiplier effect bagi sekitar kawasan Danau Toba, dengan target kenaikan 20-25% dari total sebelumnya, serta memberikan dampak positif pada sektor ekonomi kreatif sebesar Rp391 miliar. Untuk mencapai target-target tersebut, Kementerian Pariwisata dan Ekonomi Kreatif/Badan Pariwisata dan Ekonomi Kreatif (Kemenparekraf/Baparekraf) memberikan pelatihan bagi pelaku ekonomi kreatif dalam mendukung kesuksesan F1 Powerboat Danau Toba 2024.

Diharapkan, para pelaku ekonomi kreatif di sekitar Danau Toba dapat mengenalkan dan mendorong produk kuliner, produk kriya, dan fesyen, agar nantinya seluruh produk-produk ekonomi kreatif dan budaya di Danau Toba dapat semakin dikenal dunia internasional. 

Nonton Balapan Sambil Liburan 

Selain nonton  F1 Powerboat Danau Toba 2024, Sobat Parekraf juga bisa berkeliling mengunjungi beberapa destinasi wisata di sekitar Kota Balige dan sekitar Danau Toba untuk liburan. Satu destinasi yang cukup dekat dengan lokasi acara adalah Pantai Lumban Bulbul, yang terkenal dengan pasir putih lembut serta keindahan alam yang memanjakan mata.

Sebagai salah satu event yang berhasil masuk dalam daftar Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN) 2024 , Sabang Marine Festival mengusung konsep aktivitas bahari, kebudayaan, dan konservasi lingkungan. 

Jadi, keduanya dapat menjadi rekomendasi event terbaik yang diharapkan dapat menarik kunjungan wisatawan, sehingga dapat mencapai target kunjungan wisatawan mancanegara sebanyak 14,3 juta orang pada 2024.

For the first time Rosatom Fuel Division supplied fresh nuclear fuel to the world’s only floating nuclear cogeneration plant in the Arctic

The fuel was supplied to the northernmost town of Russia along the Northern Sea Route.

The first in the history of the power plant refueling, that is, the replacement of spent nuclear fuel with fresh one, is planned to begin before 2024. The manufacturer of nuclear fuel for all Russian nuclear icebreakers, as well as the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, is Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC), a company of Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL that is based in Elektrostal, Moscow Region.

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactors of the icebreaking type. Unlike convenient ground-based large reactors (that require partial replacement of fuel rods once every 12-18 months), in the case of these reactors, the refueling takes place once every few years and includes unloading of the entire reactor core and loading of fresh fuel into the reactor.

The cores of KLT-40 reactors of the Akademik Lomonosov floating power unit have a number of advantages compared to the reference ones: a cassette core was used for the first time in the history of the unit, which made it possible to increase the fuel energy resource to 3-3.5 years between refuelings, and also reduce the fuel component of the electricity cost by one and a half times. The FNPP operating experience formed the basis for the designs of reactors for nuclear icebreakers of the newest series 22220. Three such icebreakers have been launched by now.

For the first time the power units of the Akademik Lomonosov floating nuclear power plant were connected to the grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020. The supply of nuclear fuel from Elektrostal to Pevek and its loading into the second reactor is planned for 2024. The total power of the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, supplied to the coastal grid of Pevek without thermal energy consumption on shore, is about 76 MW, being about 44 MW in the maximum thermal power supply mode. The FNPP generated 194 million kWh according to the results of 2023. The population of Pevek is just a little more than 4 thousand, while the FNPP has a potential for supplying electricity to a city with a population of up to 100 thousand people. After the FNPP commissioning two goals were achieved. These include first of all the replacement of the retiring capacities of the Bilibino NPP, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya TPP, which has already been operating for more than 70 years. Secondly, energy is supplied to the main mining companies in western Chukotka in the Chaun-Bilibino energy hub a large ore and metal cluster, including gold mining companies and projects related to the development of the Baimsk ore zone. In September 2023, a 110 kilovolt power transmission line with a length of 490 kilometers was put into operation, connecting the towns of Pevek and Bilibino. The line increased the reliability of energy supply from the FNPP to both Bilibino consumers and mining companies, the largest of which is the Baimsky GOK. The comprehensive development of the Russian Arctic is a national strategic priority. To increase the NSR traffic is of paramount importance for accomplishment of the tasks set in the field of cargo shipping. This logistics corridor is being developed due regular freight voyages, construction of new nuclear-powered icebreakers and modernization of the relevant infrastructure. Rosatom companies are actively involved in this work. Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL (Rosatom Fuel Division) includes companies fabricating nuclear fuel, converting and enriching uranium, manufacturing gas centrifuges, conducting researches and producing designs. As the only nuclear fuel supplier to Russian NPPs, TVEL supplies fuel for a total of 75 power reactors in 15 countries, for research reactors in nine countries, as well as for propulsion reactors of the Russian nuclear fleet. Every sixth power reactor in the world runs on TVEL fuel. Rosatom Fuel Division is the world’s largest producer of enriched uranium and the leader on the global stable isotope market. The Fuel Division is actively developing new businesses in chemistry, metallurgy, energy storage technologies, 3D printing, digital products, and decommissioning of nuclear facilities. TVEL also includes Rosatom integrators for additive technologies and electricity storage systems. Rosenergoatom, Joint-Stock Company is part of Rosatom Electric Power Division and one of the largest companies in the industry acting as an operator of nuclear power plants. It includes, as its branches, 11 operating NPPs, including the FNPP, the Scientific and Technical Center for Emergency Operations at NPPs, Design and Engineering as well as Technological companies. In total, 37 power units with a total installed capacity of over 29.5 GW are in operation at 11 nuclear power plants in Russia. Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC, Elektrostal) is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of fuel for nuclear power plants. The company produces fuel assemblies for VVER-440, VVER-1000, RBMK-1000, BN-600,800, VK-50, EGP-6; powders and fuel pellets intended for supply to foreign customers. It also produces nuclear fuel for research reactors. The plant belongs to the TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom.

Moscow Metro and Swan Lake

A few days ago, I went with Elena and Becky on a trip around the Moscow metro, the second most heavily used metro system in the world. I didn’t know much about it before, but it’s an architectural marvel in and of itself, a gorgeous relic from Moscow’s Soviet past and Stalinist architecture in particular. We rode around the central brown line, a circle of 12 stations that Stalin oversaw the creation/renovation of in the 1930s and 40s. All are ornately decorated with different themes (sports, French palatial architecture, Lenin portraits, etc), in a way that was intended to remind the average rider of all the ways their government was giving back to them for their hard work. Apparently, they all have an emphasis on “verticality”, essentially meaning that either the ceilings are very lavish, or the art on the walls is dimensioned to draw the eye upwards, reminding metro-goers of the place of Stalin in their lives. Below are pictures of my favorite stations.

To top off our time in Moscow, last night we managed to get student rush tickets (for 100 roubles, or $3!) to closing night of Swan Lake at the Bolshoi Theater. The seats were terrible (it’s hard to explain how bad, but we had to stand for most of the show) but the ballet was incredible. We found out about the existence of student rush tickets/the process to get them very randomly, and as I haven’t found the process documented anywhere else, here’s a quick description: if you go to the Bolshoi at any given day starting at 6 am, you can put your name (and your group’s names) on a list for tickets to the day’s performance (it hosts ballet and opera performances on alternating days). A queue starts forming outside the theater at 2 pm, roughly based on the order of your name on the list, and tickets are handed out at 5:30 pm. Although this rushing system applies to all students, the ticket attendees might give you a hard time by refusing any non-Russian IDs (this actually happened to me, and I was only able to go as Elena’s boyfriend Luke kindly gave his up his ticket for me).

Fun fact: the Bolshoi is featured on the 100 Rouble note, and the insignia in front of the theater on the bill displays a hammer and sickle. Although hammers and sickles are still common sights around the city, the Bolshoi happens to have since switched its insignia to the logo of the modern Russian Federation, the double-headed eagle. Credit to Becky for noticing.

Random photo of the day: a small bakery at which we bought a jam bun and a small bag of glazed wheat rolls. Tiny bakeries like this are all over the place (including in the metro stations, with fully functioning mini-ovens!), and make me feel perpetually hungry as I walk around.
