Did a boat parade that ended up here. Had dogs n suds (the beer kind) they even had PBR in a bottle so I didn't have to switch brands mid day. Views are great and everyone was nice. We're not members and don't live in Michigan but next year if we do the Henkel memorial boat parade it will end up here and we'll be back.
Cheap place to stay when we are out boating.......clean bathrooms to take a shower and a bar with food. Takes forever for the food to get cooked. Good for a drinking night.Adequate.

Classic Archive Look Back – Cruisin’ To The Old Club Of Harsens Island
Sunday marked the final day on the busy schedule for the 2012 Algonac Boat Show, the Michigan ACBS Chapter’s premier boat show. With the static boat show successfully wrapped up late Saturday, the particpants of the show were ready, willing and able to get back out on the beautiful Michigan waters to exercise (and enjoy) their classic boats just the way they were meant to be used.
With smiling faces all around, at 8:00 AM on Sunday morning a gaggle of classic boats left the Algonac Harbor Club Marina for a fun cruise over to the historical 140 year-old facility simply named “The Old Club of Harsens Island” for Sunday brunch.
3 of the remaining 10 Futura’s were in the Algonac Show this past weekend, and all were stunning!
Thanks for the great story and photos of our Old Club event. One small correction. Although Art Armstrong does have a great CC Kit boat, the one in the photo in today’s story is recently completed by Bob Guldemond, with he at the outboard tiller, and his wife Ann in the bow.
Looks like you guys had a great fun packed weekend.
We are going to have to get Matt back here again so we can teach him the difference between “Lakers” and “Saltys”. Looking forward to the opportunity.
I was wondering about that!
Watching Greg and Mariann running next to us on the way back to the marina was one of the many high points of the weekend. I’m sure they saw my dumb constant smile, just being in that triple would have done it for me.
Back to work and reality today. 🙁
Great story thanks Texx. What a great meeting. Just looking at the colour of the water makes me smile.
Well Rick, You could always set up practice here. Then you would know all about the small town parades and road construction schedules. i wish I would have known your return schedule, I could have helped you avoid the site seeing journey. We would love to have you back.
All part of the traveling experience and makes for good stories latter Carl. MI is definitely on my “To Do Again” list. I didn’t meet even one person who did not go out of their way to make me feel welcome and part of the MI chapter family.
A nice array of beautiful classics & lobster boats never go out of style.
Great reporting. Many thanks,
John in Va.
Sounds like a great week end. we missed you yesterday but I can see why–no doubt recovering from way too much fun for any one person to have.
Thanks much, Matt and Texx, for all the great follow-on shots from the weekend…hope there will be many more this week.
All those cruisers — wun-a-full, wun-a-full!
Nice to finally see “SeaFlow II” in such nice restored condition- formerly a Seattle boat, owned by Stan Sayres and the official tow boat for the Slo-Motion hydroplanes (along with “Tango”, my old Red & White express) when they were active under Stan’s ownership!
We need to get her to Chelan for Mahogany and Merlot one of these days… Maybe when Dan and Carol put “Tango” back on the water – that would be fun! 🙂
counting my own I can accout for the ware abouts of 18 Futuras Some not so pretty but they are still around
Thanks Glen – Those classic Futura’s have a beautiful, distinctive look, that certainly sets them apart from any other cruiser.
The Old Club brunch is always the highlight of the Michigan chapter show. Texx did a great story, and it was a great event for the Michigan gang, including having Texx and Matt be part of it. It is also now somewhat melancholy since some of those featured in the story are no longer with us. Several of the cottages along the boardwalk in the second photo of the Old Club from the channel are what burned. My understanding is that the club house and rest of the grounds survived the fire.
Thanks Greg for being the start of the day again!
Someday I hope to get my 1961 Cruisers Inc Commander back in the water to have some fun like this! It just seems that “life” just keeps getting in the way of working on it. Thanks for the great story and incredible photos.
Great photographic coverage. Checked WB this morning on the phone while I had a minute but it doesn’t do justice to seeing it on my desktop 24″ screen. Its a whole different story visually. These damn phones ruin so many things in so many different ways.
Ok, again @10PM, I’m reviewing a beautiful bunch of boats, “Seaflow” an awesome Hacker, and wait, is that a wrap-around-windshield on the barrel back “Likety Split? well it is his boat – do what floats your boat. And that Commander, dayum that’s nice – could have done a whole story on that boat. And Greg’s Deluxe Runabout “Water Lily” – perfect shape. And the CC Kit Boat was well done – great coverage Texx – miss those stories. And Dennis – why in the hell did you sell your Hacker Gentleman’s Racer – guess we all want something sporty for a while and then we switch to practical. Like trading in your hot 21 year old girlfriend for one more practical at 42. Lol.

OK ok, this topic has been discussed over the years, but thought it'd be appropriate to bring it back up. We've slept at Po' Mans (too buggy), Salt River (covered my boat in slime), and Browns (after a night of drinking). Where are some locations you would recommend throwing anchor(s) or roping up? I've heard the SNI is beautiful, having a friend show me around today, but I'd love to hear your thoughts, especially considering wind direction and weather! Thanks!
We stayed overnight anchored in Goose Bay earlier this week. We were the only boat there. Very sheltered anchorage. We took the dinghy around the bay to see all the homes and wilderness. The water was nice and warm and the bottom was sandy. Only down side was the bugs. I put the canvas up before the sun went down in anticipation of the massive bug onslaught. Overall, very nice place.
Like you stated wind direction is key but I'm not the best to say which place is best depending on wind. Muscamoot - Deep enough for boats / shallow enough to wade. We have anchored anywhere from the turn around to back past the culvert. We would like to try and anchor as far back in there as we can get. It was actually discussed this weekend. Bugs depend on if the wind is blowing them into land or from land to the boat. Goose - Deep enough for boats / shallow enough to wade. It tends to have more bugs than other places. Watch out for the biting flies. Stodge was bit a couple of years ago and had welts for two weeks. I tend to hesitate overnighting once the bugs and flies get bad but we do it anyways. Gull - You can anchor on the side between Gull and Harsens or between Gull and Seaway. I like anchoring on the side between Gull and Harsens (north?) because it is shallow and you can wade in easier. Take your pick depending on the winde direction. The Hook across from Gull and the end of Harsen's (around the South Channel Lights area). That isn't a bad place either. Can wade here too. Munchies in Bouvier Bay - Deep enough for boats / shallow enough to wade. We overnight here several times during the summer too. Sandy bottom. Family friendly. Baltimore Highway - You can anchor there to the side. Strong current. I won't get in the water because of the weeds and current. We visit them all during the summer. Enjoy every bit of the lake that you can get to. Each has it own thing to offer. If you have a dinghy, there is so much in all the areas to explore. This is our first year with our dinghy and we have found lots of neat places that we hadn't been before. I now know how to get anywhere from Strawberry Island to Goose to Moot to Brown just by hop skipping or jumping. Best Advice is to explore anywhere your heart desires to go. The more places the better.
Perhaps this is helpful???? http://www.lakestclair.net/index.php?/topic/88209-say-the-wind-is-blowing-from-the-south/page__p__1114013__hl__+wind++blowing++south__fromsearch__1#entry1114013
2009 Best of Lake St. Clair contest: Best Spot to Anchor Overnight Muscamoot Bay (51 votes [49.04%]) Goose Bay (29 votes [27.88%]) Gull Island (24 votes [23.08%])
When the bugs are down, like this weekend the moot is a great place to spend the night. We had a calm quiet night out there Saturday. There were maybe 5 other boats in the bay overnight. The Baltimore is high on my list too.
Thanks everyone, great input. We're planning to stay out next Saturday, so we'll keep an eye on the weather and shoot for the Moot. Brian
This is pretty important information for us. We used to love to spend the night....even multiple nights anchored out before my wife's illness. That was boating to us. We would go from the spring thru the summer. The bugs situation can get pretty intense but we learned to work around it. I heard that Munchies has less of a problem with this but I don't have any first hand experience as we have not yet tried that area. We are hoping to get back to this next season as my wife's condition is improving. It has been a long haul! We used to achor in Fisher and Little Muscamoot when the water was higher. I know that goes back a ways. We did Big Muscamoot a couple of times after the water was too low for Little Muacamoot and Fisher. Unfortunatley it was on one of those nights that there was an all-night party going on. We prefer a laid back atmosphere where we can kick back and enjoy nature and go exploring nature with the dinghy and some early AM fishing via the dinghy. Our primary boat has inboards and drafts around 36 inches. Obviously more is highly preferrable. I will check back in the spring. Any updates will be much appreciated!
Just spent the weekend in Goose Bay Pictures here of the sunset and sunrise. You will notice in the sunrise pictures the water was like glass. This late in the season there were NO bugs!

Oh hell, shouldnt have logged on to LSCN, now I am jealous. Sitting in DC tonight with a friend and my boat is winterized.......boooooooooo Awesome pics though! Thanks for sharing!
My boat needs 2 1/2 to 3 ft... I can get into Fisher's bay via Canoe Cut, but it's really cutting it close... one small log would ruin my day. No problem at all using the Doty to get into Goose Bay at no wake speed.. most of that area is 4-5 feet (more in a few areas) deep. There are some sandy spots in the skinnier water near the Octagon House and a few other areas, but I generally just anchor and loaf. It'd be a good place to anchor overnight, weather permitting, and you could even slip into the Doty and Acnhor along the edge if wind/waves kicked up.
