Lürssen’s 82m Project CALI Hits the Water

Lürssen has announced that Project CALI has successfully been launched with scheduled delivery for Q1 2024. She perfectly encapsulates everything that one would expect from a Lürssen design, as her stand-out features have been revealed by the German yard and her exteriors can be marvelled at as she emerges from the shed.

Project CALI is an 82m motor yacht with a beam of 12.50m, her concept and exterior design overseen by Lürssen’s in-house exterior designer Jim Robert Sluijter. She is characterised by a sleek and elegant look, which is emphasised by the reversed bow shape.

This vessel is perfect for a family with a passion for the outdoors; she has exceptional outdoor areas that are home to two of the yacht’s most impressive features. The lower deck has a spacious beach club which opens to both sides with big sea terraces and is connected to a very large swim platform aft, perfect for those who wish to feel connected to their ocean surroundings. Project CALI also has a 30-metre-long sun deck, offering panoramic views with plenty of space for both daytime and evening activities. It features a jacuzzi, a bar, a lounge area, and a dining area fitted with a barbeque, pizza oven and an outdoor cinema. From a plethora of dining opportunities to areas to relax and wind-down, the sun deck has something for everyone. 

These two stand-out features highlight the scope of the activities on offer onboard Project CALI as well as emphasising how she is able to cater to guests with varying interests. Her interiors are penned by RWD and, despite being kept tightly under wraps, we can only imagine that her interior design will match the spectacular exterior elegance and excitement of the offerings onboard.

She was created mainly for family gatherings and vacations, with a passion for outdoor activities. Outdoor areas are amongst the most significant features aboard this vessel, including a vast beach club on the lower deck, which opens to both sides with large sea terraces. It is also connected to the spacious swim platform aft.

The sun deck spreads over 30 metres in length and provides beautiful views and plenty of space to relax during the day or in the evening. The owner and guests will enjoy the large Jacuzzi, the comfortable lounging area, a bar and an al fresco dining space complete with a barbecue and pizza oven. In addition, the sun deck can be set up as an outdoor cinema under the stars.

Lürssen launches Project Cali

The elusive new 82m yacht from the german shipyard has left the construction shed for the very first time….

Lürssen has successfully launched its latest 82m yacht, Project Cali. Designed in-house by Lead Exterior Designer, Jim Robert Sluijter with interior design from RWD , Project Cali will be delivered early next year. 

Very little is known about this elusive project at present.

“Project Cali has a low, sleek profile and is generous with both interior and exterior space,” says Sluijter. “She is an 82-metre tri-deck that greatly emphasises outdoor conviviality.”

Since the yacht is specifically designed for a family with a passion for the outdoors, Lürssen has exploited the exterior areas of the ship to create its main features. It offers a spacious beach club on the lower deck which opens on both sides and is connected to a large swim platform.

The 30m long sun deck offers a panoramic view and features a jacuzzi, lounge area, bar and al fresco dining area. Lürssen currently has seven yachts in build, including major projects like the 122-metre Project Jag and the 142-metre Project Alibaba.

The Ultimate 2024: A Boat Owner’s Guide to Southern California and the Baja

Boat owners in Southern California are blessed with access to some of the world’s most incredible fishing and boating opportunities. Just how world class are the experiences in this part of the world?

Bluefin fishing and deep dropping for swordfish around Catalina Island. Fifty striped marlin days off of the Finger Bank. The natural wonder that is Mag Bay in the fall. The Bisbee’s Black and Blue in late October. Sunset cruises, popping from waterfront restaurant to restaurant, in Orange County. Spending time in places like San Diego, Avalon, Dana Point, Ensenada, Todos Santos, Cabo San Lucas, and La Paz.

From its flagship location in San Diego’s Kona Kai Marina, Kusler Yachts has helped clients make the most of what their home waters have to offer for more than a decade.  What follows is a blueprint for compiling the ultimate 2024 in Southern California and the Baja aboard your boat.

Striped Marlin Season in Cabo

The peak season for striped marlin in Cabo starts in the winter and lasts through the early spring. For your 2024 plans, that means January through March. Where the fishing happens depends on how the water stacks up and where the bait holds. This varies year to year (and day to day).

Much of the time you can catch striped marlin right out front of Cabo. Often in the spring time fish will stack up on the Golden Gate Bank (about 20 miles from Cabo) or the Finger Bank (55 miles or so). When it’s good here, you can rack up 50 striped marlin days.

That the fishing is good and so widely distributed in the southern Baja allows you take your boat to the type of place that you like to hang out. This means different things to different people. From the excitement and diversity of options in Cabo to the peace, tranquility and boutique restaurants of Todos Santos or La Paz, there’s much to love about this part of the world.

Taking a boat to the Baja provides you with a great way to the explore many parts of the area. You can reserve a slip in different places as you explore and find the right scene for what you.

World Class Bluefin Tuna Fishing: May through September

Southern California is the epicenter of a worldclass bluefin tuna fishery. Most years, the body of fish moves in from offshore of the northern Baja in late spring or early summer. As the summer comes on, the fish hold off of Southern California. Catalina Island serves as a central point for the action.

The bluefin fishery is wonderful. For much of the season, the fish are close enough that you can target on day trips. They taste great and they grow big.

There is also a cultural component to catching them. You see black and white photos of Zane Gray posing with southern California bluefin. The fish disappeared for 80 years, but they’ve returned with a vengeance within the last decade.

You can catch them in a variety of ways. Perhaps the easiest is to troll Nomad Mad Macs or sling poppers at them when they are foaming up top. As you get more technical, you can target fully grown bluefin skipping big flying fish under kites around Catalina or San Clemente Island. 

You can catch bluefin on your own boat or take charters out of many places in Southern California and the northern Baja. You can even book a trip on a long range, multi day tuna trip out of San Diego.

There are lots options. Even more when you own a boat in Southern California .  

A 2024 Southern California Fishing Bucket List

These days the bluefin tuna might be the headliner, but the diversity of sportfishing options in Southern California is staggering. Many of the fisheries are evolving in technique and application. Southern California boats get better at targeting bluefin every year. Boats are deep dropping to catch swordfish– a technique that recently arrived on the scene (boats used to primarily target broadbills basking on the surface).

While every southern California angler’s bucket list might look a little different, here’s a 2024 fishing list that is representative of what Southern California has to offer. The accomplishment of catching all of these in the same calendar year is great, but it’s even sweeter when you do it on your own boat.

Catch a bluefin. Deep drop a swordfish. Catch a white sea bass. Fill the box with yellowtail on a kelp patty. Catch a Southern California striped marlin.

Summertime: Enjoying the Southern California Waterfront

Southern California’s beautiful waterfront and pleasant climate have been attracting visitors from around the world for decades. Owning a boat in Southern California is perhaps the ultimate lifestyle investment, one that allows you to uniquely enjoy all that this wonderful part of the world has to offer.

The Southern California waterfront offers great options and wonderful experiences. New Port Beach, Dana Point, San Clemente… restaurants, night life, sunset cruises.

Avalon is located on Catalina Island . It is historic, beautiful and surrounded by great fishing. Avalon is a perfect spot for a boat trip. There are plenty of anchorages if you want to spend the night on the hook, but you can also get a slip at the marina and stay at any number of boutique hotels. Once there, Avalon offers plenty of things to do– great restaurants, nightlife, shopping and tours. It is also a beautiful place to do nothing at all.

Tournament Season in the Baja

Late summer means the beginning of the tournament season in the Baja. The tuna tournaments kick off the festivities in late August. The name of the game most years involves locating pods of porpoise offshore and skipping flying fish on kites to target giant yellowfin.

The headliner of Baja tournaments is the Bisbee’s Black and Blue in late October. The Bisbee’s is one of sportfishing’s ultimate showcases. High stakes, big fish and an incredible atmosphere. Most years it takes a blue or black marlin in the range of 400 pounds to be in contention. Kusler Yachts clients have placed in the Bisbee’s many times—a fact that we’re very proud of.

There are a variety of tournaments in the Baja—big and small. There are big money tournaments and those that are more laid back and fun.

Magdalena Bay sits on the Pacific side of the Baja Peninsula roughly 120 miles north of Cabo San Lucas. It is a semi-enclosed body of water that is among the most productive in the world.

In the fall of each year, billions of sardines spill out of Magdalena Bay. These sardines set the stage for one of the most spectacular events in sportfishing. Hordes of striped marlin, mountains of dorado and piles of wahoo line up to eat the sardines. They are joined by whales, sea lions, and flocks of birds.

Boats that fish Mag Bay put up incredible release numbers. It’s striped marlin fishing on steroids, set to an extravagant display of natural beauty. Making a trip to Mag Bay on your own boat is a bucket list experience for fishermen from all over the world. Southern California and Baja-based boat owners are perfectly situated to make it happen.

A California yacht owner's vicious beef with a dock worker has reached death-threat levels -- and their exchange was caught on camera and included a nude, and very rude, gesture!

Check out the clip ... it all unfolds when San Diego entrepreneur Ajay Thakore swings by the swanky Marriott Marquis Marina in his rare $4.5M Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 yacht to pick up one of his employees -- but things boil over when dock worker Joseph Holt tells him he can't be there.

Thakore, the CEO of medical advertising firm Doctor Multimedia, flips out on Holt big time ... and starts spewing threats like, "I will kill you, you know I will kill you, I will kill."

And it doesn't stop there -- as Thakore's pulling out of the harbor, he drops trou to make a full frontal salute in Holt's direction. Stay classy, San Diego!

Holt's only retaliation was flipping the bird, and he later told CBS8 that was all he could do to keep his cool and avoid escalating the situation.

Holt says parts of the altercation were not captured on camera, and he adds ... Thakore not only threatened to kill him, but also claimed to have connections who could totally mess up his life.

Holt also says Thakore pulled out $100 bills and tossed them at him, even chucking some in the water.

BTW, Thakore's done some backpedaling since the ugly exchange -- he now says, "The interaction that occurred yesterday was regrettable. What started as a minor misunderstanding escalated into an argument, and I apologize for my actions and to those who witnessed the unfortunate exchange."

FWIW ... One of Thakore’s employees claims the whole thing began because other dock workers blocked him from boarding the yacht.

Oh, and if that fancy Lambo yacht looks familiar -- it's the same one Chuck Liddell recently tumbled off just last month. Now it's famous AND infamous!

Indian American owner of luxury yacht threatens to kill dock worker

The altercation began when Ajay Thakore was told not park his $4.5 million luxury yacht at a private harbor

California-based Indian American entrepreneur Ajay Thakore threatened to kill a young dock worker who would not let him park his multimillion-dollar luxury yacht at San Diego Marina, according to media reports.

He also dropped his pants and made several threatening gestures to the employee during the altercation in the late afternoon of Sunday, March 10, SanDiegoVille reported.

Thakore, who goes by his social media name, Ace Rogers, attempted to dock his $4.5 million ‘Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63’ yacht at the private Marriott Marquis Marina to pick up someone, when 21-year-old Joseph Holt who works at Seaforth Boat Rentals, told him he couldn’t park there.

A video is circulating showing what appears to be the owner of San Diego’s famous Lamborghini yacht threatening a dock worker in downtown San Diego, according to the newspaper.

The boat owner is also in the process of civil litigation with a second San Diego restaurant. He recently made news after former UFC champion Chuck Liddell fell off his yacht in San Diego Bay.

“I’ll kill you! I will kill you! You know I’ll kill you! I will kill you! I will kill you!”, the man on the Lamborghini boat is heard shouting, as the dock worker responds inaudibly. “Yea I doubt it! Ace Rogers, call me! Time and place!”

The interaction quickly became heated, resulting in the boat owner berating the employee, then verbally threatening him, as well as reportedly throwing money in the water as he allegedly insulted the employee’s social status.

In a second video, it appears the man on the boat pulls his pants down and makes lewd gestures toward the people on the dock.

Thakore’s bright blue boat is the only Lamborghini yacht sited on the United States’ West Coast and only the second seen in the United States.

Thakore made news in late 2021 after he was publicly accused of harassing a La Jolla pizza eatery, according to SanDiegoVille .

In response to American Pizza Manufacturing founder Andrew Melone‘s public accusations, a lawsuit was filed on Nov. 10 in US District Court for the Southern District of California by Gopher Media LLC (formerly known as Local Clicks and doing business as Doctor Multimedia) and Ajay Thakore.

In the complaint, the plaintiffs assert they were organizing a First Amendment-protected boycott against American Pizza Manufacturing following racist treatment by the restaurant’s owner.

“Thakore has also urged a boycott of AMP because of its discriminatory and racist treatment of and attitude toward those of Arab, Indian (from India), and/or Asian descent,” according to the complaint. “Thakore has also urged a boycott of AMP because of its discriminatory and racist treatment of and attitude toward members of the LGBQTIA community.”

The lawsuit against American Pizza Manufacturing and Andrew Melone asks for “an award of actual and compensatory damages in an amount of $10 million and/or an amount to be proven at trial.”

In response to the lawsuit, American Pizza Manufacturing filed a complaint in early 2022 accusing Thakore of “relentless and ongoing campaign of harassment” against the restaurant while “libeling [APM and] … unfairly interfering with APM’s business.”

According to the San Diego County Superior Court Register of Actions, there are several other lawsuits pending between Thakore and other persons and entities.

Among the civil lawsuits, there is a complaint filed by Thakore against the parent company that owns Nautilus Tavern in San Diego’s Bird Rock community of La Jolla, once again alleging the restaurant discriminated against Thakore.

In the Cross-Complaint filed by Nautilus Tavern ownership against Thakore, claims include stalking, intentional infliction of emotional distress, intentional interference with prospective economic relations, and negligent interference with prospective economic relations. The cross-complaint goes as far as to accuse Thakore of urinating on the floor of the La Jolla bar.

The lawsuit between Ajay Thakore and Nautilus Tavern ownership MLT Encinitas LLC is still ongoing. A civil case management conference is scheduled for June 28, 2024, according to SanDiegoVille.

In addition to Doctor Multimedia and Local Clicks Digital Marketing, Thakore allegedly has ownership interests in Aspen’s Dog House within The Shops at La Jolla Village, Three Legs Coffee Roasters in La Jolla, and The Flower Pot Bakery & Cafe in La Jolla.

The Lamborghini yacht, named “Aspen & Delilah” after Ajay “Ace Rogers” Thakore’s daughter and three-legged dog, is currently docked in the downtown San Diego Bay area. A crew made up of 20-30 people purportedly help maintain the one-of-a-kind 63′ boat.

Businessman 'drops pants and threatens to kill staff' during Lamborghini yacht docking dispute

Entrepreneur Ajay Thakore tried to dock his yacht in a private area - and when he was stopped by staff he threatened to kill them and exposed himself

A philanthropist and social media figure allegedly threatened to kill a dock worker during a heated argument from his multimillion-dollar yacht , before dropping his pants and giving several threatening gestures to the employee after he was told he could not dock where he wanted to.

Ajay Thakore, who goes by the handle Ace Rogers online, is a local entrepreneur in the San Diego, California area. He attempted to dock his Lamborghini yacht at the private Marriot Marquis Marina to pick up one of his employees but was stopped by worker Joseph Holt on Sunday.

“I told him respectfully that he couldn’t be there, and I honestly was hoping to have a conversation with him about his cool boat,” Holt told CBS8. “But yeah, it completely went the other way.”

Thakore was aboard his rare $4.5 million Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 yacht at the time of the daytime dispute which came as quite a surprise to staff. “It escalated immediately. It was 0 to 100 immediately,” 21-year-old Holt explained.

Thakore, the CEO of medical advertising firm Doctor Multimedia, allegedly began to make worrying threats to Holt’s life as the luxury speedboat began to leave the docks. “I will kill you, you know I will kill you, I will kill,” Thakore repeatedly yells according to a clip posted to YouTube.

Besides allegedly threatening to take Holt’s life, Thakore also allegedly claimed to have the power to get the dock worker fired, mocking his job and status.

“I’m a minimum wage worker, he was commenting on that, on my status just because of my job,” Holt said. “He was saying I’m nobody, I’m nothing, I work a silly job.”

“He said that he knows people, he has connections, he can change my life and ruin it,” he added. Perhaps most absurdly, Thakore stripped nude and showed himself off.

“He had dropped his pants and started to make gestures to everybody watching and me. You can’t act that way in public. It’s just not OK. Especially threatening my life, at the very least. There were women and children there. That’s the most important part,” Holt said.

Thakore claims his outburst started because of a misunderstanding and was sorry for the people who saw it, but during the row, Thakore allegedly pulled out his wallet and began throwing $100 bills at Holt and into the water.

“I really didn’t know how to process it. I really was trying to restrain myself from getting fired from my job or stepping out of line. The only thing I did was give him the bird,” Holt said.

Southern California restaurant owner blames transients for recent arson

A restaurant owner in Sherman Oaks is thankful no one was hurt after multiple suspects deliberately started a fire in the dumpster outside the establishment.

The incident occurred on March 16 at Casa Vega, a popular neighborhood restaurant. Security footage shows the arsonists pouring an accelerant into the dumpster and lighting it on fire.

“The flames were about 10 feet high, right next to our grease trap,” owner Chstisty Vega told KTLA 5’s, Sandra Mitchell. “If they would have hit our grease trap, it would have been like a bomb explosion.”

Vega says the large amount of unhoused individuals in the area has led to a spike in crime.

“We have constant assaults by transients coming into the restaurant,” Vega said. “We had a busser stabbed coming into work, right in the driveway of Casa Vega.”

Business owners in the popular Ventura Boulevard neighborhood have contacted the city to help with the growing population of unhoused people.

Some locals are taking matters into their own hands, by starting a neighborhood watch group. Robert Tomlinson volunteers for the organization. He saw the fire on Saturday and acted quickly to ensure the blaze didn’t spread.

“I just happened to come upon the smoke column,” Tomlinson said. “Called 911 and got my extinguisher out.”

The blaze didn’t cause damage to the restaurant. But, Vega says that since her insurance company canceled her policy, she’s afraid that if incidents like this continue to occur, she could lose the 70-year-old restaurant.

“In LA the real victims of the homeless problem are the small businesses,” Vega said. “A lack of consequences, insurance companies are going to stop paying for it.”
