2015 Tattoo MacGregor 26
- Description
Seller's Description
2015 Tattoo 26 (Follow on to the popular MacGregor 26M) produced in Stuart Florida by Roger MacGregor’s family.
I am the original owner and purchased the boat brand new direct from the factory. The boat was used for 2 seasons and has not been in the water since 2016 due to health issues (not COVID-19 related). The boat and trailer have never been in any accidents and I have clean titles for both in hand. I just had the trailer and surge brakes serviced in June 2020. Salon has a nice dinette and sink. Sink and water system is new and hasn’t been used.
All of the pictures were taken this week.
Asking Price is $25,999 or best offer. All reasonable offers will be considered. Email me for more information or to schedule a visit to view the boat at [email protected]
Equipment: The boat comes with a tremendous amount of options and a full sail complement. Here is a list of the options:

Winter Cover
Items needing attention:
The CDI Furler Extrusion cracked while trailering last winter. I have a brand new CDI Furler Extrusion that will convey with the boat so that this item can be fixed. I purchased the new CDI Furler Extrusion from BWYachts.com
The boat could use a good polish and wax as there is minor oxidation on the gelcoat. Overall, the gelcoat and coloring is in good condition.
If kept in the water, the boat will require another application of Anti-Fouling (Bottom Paint). Original Anti-Fouling is Black Interlux Ultra.
Custom Fitted Winter Cover has been used for several seasons and is starting to show its age.
Rig and Sails
Auxilary power, accomodations, calculations.
The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.
Classic hull speed formula:
Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL
Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL
Sail Area / Displacement Ratio
A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.
SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3
- SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
- D : Displacement in pounds.
Ballast / Displacement Ratio
A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.
Ballast / Displacement * 100
Displacement / Length Ratio
A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.
D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³
- D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
- LWL: Waterline length in feet
Comfort Ratio
This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.
Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )
- D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
- LOA: Length overall in feet
- Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet
Capsize Screening Formula
This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.
CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64)
As sail/power ‘hybrids’, both the M and X models are designed for use with a more than ‘auxilary’ sized outboard and water ballast. The MACGREGOR 26M replaced the MACGREGOR 26X in 2003. A similar version later reintroduced from another builder as the TATTOO 26 (2013).

New boat: Tattoo 26
T he Tattoo 26, is a trailerable, 26-foot motorsailer built by Paul Sharp and Laura MacGregor Sharp. Laura is the daughter of Roger MacGregor, designer and builder of the MacGregor 26.
There are, however, important differences between the Tattoo 26 and the MacGregor. The Sharps remodeled the boat for the next generation of sailors, who will like the square-topped main, the halyards running aft to the cockpit and other changes, including cosmetic ones. The 6-foot headroom interior is warmer with bamboo trim and a multi-purpose table with built-in storage that also converts into a berth. Topsides, the mast rotates on a hinged step. A roller furler, genoa and an asymmetrical spinnaker are options.
Optimizing space with the table and the slide-away galley makes room for an enclosed head, a comfort not always seen on boats this size. The 26 sleeps six in two settee berths, a forward double and a queen-sized aft berth.
Some of the extra space comes from the fact that the engine is mounted outboard, and it's an engine that could power a boat three times the displacement of the 26. Ranging from 5 to 60 horsepower, the larger engines push the boat into powerboat performance, in the 20-knot range. Slow down to 6 knots and you can motor for 200 miles without refueling.
The 6-foot-long cockpit has winches mounted forward on either side of the companionway. The centerboard control line is lead to the cockpit, and the centerboard itself folds entirely into the hull. That's a protective feature: once the board is up, it's safe from hard landings on sand or the trailer.
As a centerboarder, the 26 needs ballast, and instead of lead in the bilge, which would affect trailering performance, the boat uses about 1,700 pounds of water ballast for stability. That's enough ballast to make it self righting. According to the Sharps, it takes about 5 minutes to fill or drain the tanks, and they can be drained while the boat is rolling down the road. As well as the solid stability, an additional safety feature is the hull's foam core, providing enough flotation to keep the boat and crew awash until help arrives.
It's more likely the crew will be awash in fun rather than water. The boat's less than 8-foot beam and 2,500-pound dry weight makes it narrow and light enough to trailer to nearly any lake with paved road access, and the 12-inch draft means that it launches off most boat ramps-and then anchors nearly on the beach.

Tattoo 26 Trailerable Sailboat review
The world’s best-selling crossover sail/power boat just got better: the MacGregor 26 is now the Tattoo 26, with a headturning design refresh.
More than 8000 MacGregor 26s have been sold worldwide since the model went into production in the 1990s. Why would you end such a successful run? When the founders decided it was time for a well-earned retirement, they sold the business to their daughter and son-in-law.
After refreshing the boat’s design, the new owners rebranded the company as Tattoo and moved to a brand-new construction facility in Florida. Then they set about expanding their dealer network worldwide and commissioned a new model, the 22, to complement its bigger sibling.
We reviewed the MacGregor 26 nearly 10 years ago, so we’re keen to see how it’s changed under a new generation of boat-builders.
Although custom-built and short-run boats offer a high degree of flexibility, there’s nothing quite like the build quality of an American production boat. With the sheer number of boats built they have a chance to polish every detail to perfection, and this shines through in the finished product. Surfaces gleam, joints are perfect and everything fits precisely. Window surrounds are part of the design, not an afterthought, and each little detail is properly finished.
THE INTERIOR
Inside the Tattoo there’s an astonishing amount of space, with six full-length berths and standing headroom in the lounge area. This is complemented by a toilet compartment, dining table and a small galley unit. The interior surfaces are a mixture of gelcoat, carpeted walls, vinyl-covered squabs and wood panels. The whole interior has a bright airy feel and it’s easy to keep clean too.
The galley unit slides fore and aft, providing access for meal preparation. A sink and gas stove are set into the galley counter, with a pressure freshwater system.
On the review boat the toilet was a chemical cassette but a fully plumbed option is available. There’s no shower inside but a transom-mounted unit provides a wash facility without the hassle of pumping waste water out of the boat. LED lighting is new on this model, providing brilliant light but with modest battery requirements.
This is an ideal boat for an entire family to get away for a weekend, you can imagine lazy summer holidays idly moving from bay to bay or among the islands off New Zealand’s coast.
There are numerous storage spaces and it would be easy to stash a week’s worth of gear in the cabin.
A newly designed central steering pedestal and raised helm seat in the middle of the cockpit enables the skipper to see over the cabin roof. A stainless wheel controls both the twin rudders and the outboard motor. Set into the pedestal are Yamaha digital gauges, although there is just space to install a set of sailing gauges. The throttle control for the outboard is on the right side of the pedestal and while no VHF was fitted to this boat, there’s provision for it.
To keep the Yamaha four-stroke outboard running for around six hours at top speed there’s space for two of the new 45-litre tote fuel tanks. That’s an effective range under power of about 100 nautical miles but unlike a pure powerboat the actual range is almost limitless under sail. The tanks are secured by straps under the side benches. The helm seat hinges up to allow swimmers to board the vessel via a small boarding ladder that swings down on the starboard side of the outboard. The gate valve controlling the 500-litre water ballast system is just behind the helm seat on the port side.
The Tattoo is well set up for short-handed sailing, with a self-furling foresail and winches in the cockpit within the skipper’s reach. A deep daggerboard controlled by a line in the cockpit keeps her tracking straight, while the rudders use a kick-up design to avoid damage.
There’s no traveller to control the boom; instead a pad eye is located in the middle of the cockpit to take the strain. The mast sits in a tabernacle and can be raised or lowered single-handedly using a short winch pole. When lowered the mast rests in a stainless steel carrier fitted to the transom but this can be removed if you prefer a clear cockpit and the mast is easy to lower to negotiate obstacles.
There were only light winds so I can’t comment on the boat’s rough-water capability. However, she heeled over comfortably, with the water ballast system providing plenty of self-righting capability. Our previous review found the hull was an adequate cruising sailboat with few vices, even if not particularly suited to racing. The hull has several foam-filled compartments and is claimed to be positively buoyant.
THE RIDE UNDER POWER
The hull is primarily a sailboat and the ride reflects this. With rounded chines and a long narrow profile, the boat is designed to heel rather than plane. This makes it slightly disconcerting for anyone accustomed to runabouts as the boat rolls on turns or in a side swell.
The Tattoo 26 handles remarkably well. The 60hp Yamaha four-stroke is capable of getting the boat to nearly 20 knots once the ballast tank has emptied out and the hull is planing. The daggerboard lifts completely flush with the hull, leaving no appendage to cause unnecessary drag. It has a larger turning circle than most runabouts but dropping the daggerboard at low speed helps the boat pivot around the centre point and make very sharp turns.
The rounded chines deliver a fairly soft ride through chop, although a bit of a wallow is evident. We didn’t bother to drop the mast but it would make sense to drop it for extended motoring.
The high freeboard means no issues with water coming in from the bows and we were able to push her hard into turns without a problem. Acceleration is less than you’d get from a dedicated runabout but we reached top speed easily enough.
At rest, the boat has a slight rolling motion – allowing the ballast tank to fill helps damp this. Power boaties may find the sensation unusual but sailors will be right at home. The steering position requires a slight change of mindset for close manoeuvring but works well and offers plenty of visibility.
ON THE TRAILER
The Tattoo 26 sits on rails on its aluminium-beamed braked trailer, requiring a decent ramp for launching. A ladder attached to the winch post at the front of the trailer allows you to clamber on board while keeping your feet dry – a nice touch.

What are the differences, Mac 26 Tattoo 26?

Third here. I'd like to hear from new owners what the differences are in the "new" boat vs the 26M. Other than cushion color choices. Also interested in the new Tattoo 22. The pictures on the Tattoo sight are kind of lacking in detail. (How does the DB of swing keel work on it?)
The Tattoo is being introduced at the Maryland Boat show this weekend, maybe someone will post some pics.

Re: New Tattoo forum That one...meh. The 22' I like, but the web site is lacking.
Looks like they switched the location of the ladder. Not sure why, but now the ladder is right next to the ballast valve. I can foresee articles of clothing get stuck on the valve on the way down or up and either operating the valve unintentionally or exposing body parts unintentionally. Can be a good or a bad thing, depending on the result and whether you are doing the exposing or the viewing. YouTube moment?
Sully, linkage and through-hole for power was moved to starboard as well, causing this problem. On mine, all utilities (linkage, power, ballast valve) are port side, so ladder is clear on starboard side.
What, youre supposed to wear clothes when your on your boat ??. This thing looks identical to a 26M from what I can see.
I don't think I'm so keen about the black stripe removal. It looks much narrower from the front now.
Rudders are in recesses...is that how the brackets are mounted on the M? Also looks like they may have rounded out the back end from the pictures...may just be pics
The 26M has rudder recesses as well. The Tattoo rudder recesses look to be unchanged from the Mac. The depth from the bottom of the cockpit seat looks to have increased though, unless it's just the photo stretch. Would be handy - I'm running a Nissan 70 on a 26M and the motor head hits the bottom of the captain's seat when it's fully raised.

Does everyone like the name tattoo? It congers up images in my mind of an old retired guy....but that's another story. Guess they did market research and determined that this name would boost sales... I dunno...
As a military man ( Air Force, 26 years) Tattoo is perfect. A military tattoo originated centuries ago, we think in Belgium as a signal for the inn keepers to "turn off the taps" and send the soldiers back to garrison. Tattoo in more recent times have evolved to be a re-gathering of our warriors back to the base and get ready.
They explain the tattoo name on the web site.

We have posted updated interior photos of the Tattoo 26. The new table with built in storage, modern squared off seat back cushions, neutral colors and bamboo finish got a lot of positive comments at the recent Annapolis Boat Show. People are always surprised at the amount of space in the boat. The sliding galley and table that drops to become a berth really optimize usable space, and the queen berth aft is always a hit!
There are a number of photos here .

I was very impressed with the place the moment I walked in to the door. The owner, Matt runs a tight ship. His tattoo place is very modern, very clean, not cluttered like some of the other shops I have been in, and overall inviting. The quality of work for Matt and other artists in his shop is amazing. He simply works with the best. Not only I got some fresh ink myself, but I also put a down payment for my son to finish up his sleeve. I will definitely be back to see Matt for more ink on my next visit to this part of the work. Good job!
With the owner of the shop, Matt! What an awesome dude!
Estimate for my son
Such cool people and friendly. For my daughter's 1st tattoo, it was an overall great experience! It was quick and looked better than my sister's and I. After care was super easy and not once did it ooze, bleed, peeled or scab. It just itched. Definitely will come back!
I have Never gotten a tattoo and didn't know how to go about scheduling an appointment. So I walk into the shop, they were friendly, but referred me to their Facebook page, where I then was left on read. Not going to try to schedule an appointment again.
This Is an awesome Tattoo shop, everybody is chill and relaxed and makes you feel comfortable and welcome to the shop.I had my awesome first Tattoo done by Ian Ripley and could not have asked for a better Tattoo. If you want a tattoo done this is the place to do it.
This was the best piercing experience I've had. The piercer got me out within 10 minutes, it was virtually painless, and he was very friendly. Would definitely return again!
Both me and my boyfriend got our septum's pierced here, it was the most painful and unprofessional piercing I've had! My boyfriend's is crooked and not even in the right spot in the nose!! Mine was painful too but the piercer seemed like he just wanted us to get out of the store. Would NOT recommend getting a piercing here. I've heard they do great tattoos though.
I went in with a bit of a scattered idea of what I wanted. The owner was very patient, he drew a few things directly on my arm so that I could test a few ideas out. I eventually landed on some freehand work. I am amazed at the ability to freehand something on someone's skin. For such a small tattoo, this has a lot of detail. I'll be back for more! I should also mention of the shop is very clean, all of the staff is very friendly, and they have such a unique design. I've been in many tattoo shops in larger cities and I have never seen another shop like this.

Here is what Stormy Daniels testified happened between her and Donald Trump

Porn performer Stormy Daniels took the witness stand Tuesday in the hush money case against former President Trump, who looked on as she detailed their alleged sexual encounter and the payment she got to keep it quiet.
Prosecutors allege Trump paid Daniels to keep quiet about the allegations as he ran for president in 2016. Her testimony aired them very publicly as the presumptive Republican presidential nominee seeks to win the White House again.
Trump denies having sex with Daniels , and his lawyers unsuccessfully pushed for a mistrial midway through her testimony.
It was a major spectacle in the first criminal trial of a former American president, now in its third week of testimony in Manhattan.
Here are some takeaways from Daniels’ testimony:
Who is Stormy Daniels?
The case centers on a $130,000 payment to Daniels from Trump’s then-lawyer, Michael Cohen, in the final weeks of Trump’s 2016 campaign. Prosecutors say it was part of a scheme to illegally influence the campaign by burying negative stories about him.
Stormy Daniels describes meeting Trump in occasionally graphic testimony
The porn actor’s testimony, even if sanitized and stripped of tell-all details, has been the most-awaited spectacle in Donald Trump’s hush money trial.
May 7, 2024
His lawyers have sought to show that Trump was trying to protect his reputation and family — not his campaign — by shielding them from embarrassing stories about his personal life.
Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, told jurors that she started exotic dancing in high school and appearing in adult films at age 23, eventually moving to direct more than 150 films and winning a roster of porn industry awards.

Key players: Who’s who at Donald Trump’s hush-money criminal trial
Donald Trump’s hush money criminal trial shifts to opening statements Monday, followed by the start of witness testimony. Who’s who in the case?

Meeting Trump
Daniels testified she first met and chatted with Trump at a 2006 Lake Tahoe celebrity golf outing where her studio was a sponsor.
He referred to her as “the smart one” and asked her if she wanted to go to dinner, she said. Daniels testified that she accepted Trump’s invitation because she wanted to avoid dinner with her co-workers and thought it might help her career. Trump had his bodyguard get her number, she said.
When they met up later in his penthouse, she appreciated that he seemed interested in the business aspects of the industry rather than the “sexy stuff.” He also suggested putting her on his TV show, “The Apprentice,” a possibility she hoped could help establish her as a writer and director.
She left to use the bathroom and was startled to find Trump in his underwear when she returned, she said. She didn’t feel physically or verbally threatened but realized that he was “bigger and blocking the way,” she testified.
“The next thing I know was: I was on the bed,” and they were having sex, Daniels recalled. The encounter was brief but left her “shaking,” she said. “I just wanted to leave,” she testified.
Stormy Daniels alleges in new documentary that Donald Trump cornered her the night they met
‘I have not forgiven myself because I didn’t shut his a— down in that moment’ in 2006, the adult filmmaker says in ‘Stormy,’ premiering March 18 on Peacock.

Payments for silence
Daniels was asked if Trump ever told her to keep things between them confidential, and said, “Absolutely not.” She said she learned in 2011 that a magazine had learned the story of their encounter, and she agreed to do an interview for $15,000 to make money and “control the narrative.” The story never ran.
In 2016, when Trump was running for president, Daniels said she authorized her manager to shop the story around but did not initially receive interest from news outlets. She said that changed in October with the release of the “Access Hollywood” tape in which Trump bragged about grabbing women sexually without asking permission . She said she learned that Cohen wanted to buy her silence.
Former tabloid publisher testifies about scheme to shield Trump from damaging stories

Mistrial push
Midway through her testimony, Trump’s lawyers moved for a mistrial.
Defense lawyer Todd Blanche argued that Daniels’ testimony about the alleged encounter and other meetings with him had “nothing to do with this case,” and would unfairly prejudice the jury.
The judge rejected it, and he faulted defense attorneys for not raising more of their objections while she was testifying.
Before Daniels took the stand, Trump’s lawyers had tried to stop her from testifying about the encounter’s details, saying it was irrelevant in “a case about books and records.”
Prosecutors countered that Daniels’ testimony gets at what Trump was trying to hide and they were “very mindful” not to draw too much graphic detail. Before Daniels took the stand, they told the judge the testimony would be “really basic,” and would not “involve any details of genitalia.”
While the judge didn’t side with Trump’s lawyers, he acknowledged that some details were excessive. The objections could potentially be used by Trump’s lawyers if he is convicted and they file an appeal.

Cross-examination
Trump’s lawyers tried to attack Daniels’ credibility, suggesting she was motivated by money and that her account has shifted over the years.
“Am I correct that you hate President Trump?” defense lawyer Susan Necheles asked Daniels at one point. Daniels acknowledged she did.
“And you want him to go to jail?” the lawyer asked.
“I want him to be held accountable,” Daniels said. Pressed again whether that meant going to jail, she said: “If he’s convicted.”
The defense pressed Daniels on the fact that she owes Trump hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees stemming from an unsuccessful defamation lawsuit, and on a 2022 tweet in which she said she “will go to jail before I pay a penny.” Daniels dug in at times in the face of pointed questions, forcefully denying the idea that she had tried to extort money from Trump.
Trump whispered frequently to his attorney during Daniels’ testimony, and his expression seemed to be pained at one point as she recounted details about the dinner she says they shared. He shook his head and appeared to say something under his breath as Daniels testified that Trump told her he didn’t sleep in the same room as his wife.
On the way out of the courthouse, Trump called it “a very revealing day.” He didn’t address Daniels’ testimony explicitly but claimed the prosecutors’ case was “totally falling apart.”

Trump’s appearance in court Tuesday, like all other days he’s stuck in the courtroom, means he can’t be out on the campaign trail as he runs for president a third time. It’s a frequent source of his complaints, but Daniels’ testimony in particular might underscore how much of a distraction the trial is from the business of running for president.
While Trump was stuck in a Manhattan courthouse away from voters and unable to speak for much of the day, President Biden was attending a Holocaust remembrance ceremony and condemning antisemitism .
It’s an issue Trump has sought to use against Biden in the campaign by seizing on the protests at college campuses over the Israel-Hamas war .
