About below deck sailing yacht.

Capt. Glenn and his comeback team Daisy Kelliher, Gary King and Colin MacRae resume their responsibilities aboard Parsifal III, along with new, dynamic crew members, as they set sail in Sardinia, Italy.

Capt. Glenn realizes that his laid-back leadership style has allowed his crew to become too comfortable and starts taking charge of quality control in the interior department, much to Daisy's dismay. In the galley, Chef Ilesha's cooking impresses the guests, but her indecisiveness and co-dependency lead to time-management issues between courses, which causes her to self-destruct. On deck, strong personalities collide, and a power struggle results in a near mutiny, as Gary clashes with his new overconfident deckhand, Chase.

Two overlapping love triangles further complicate the dynamics on-board, and a shocking hookup puts Colin, Daisy and Gary’s friendship in jeopardy.

With a near collision, fire, crew rebellion, gruesome guest injury and two different potentially season-ending engine failures, this is the most captivating and unpredictable season yet of Below Deck Sailing Yacht.

“Below Deck” — The Netflix Binge Cruisers Will Love

Contents Show

Netflix is known for introducing binge-worthy content to the platform.

And the latest has to be “Below Deck” — a reality series that came to Netflix in the form of two seasons in August 2020.

Netflix remote control Television

But the show itself was filmed way back in 2013 and has a total of 7 seasons and 105 episodes.

So why are people raving about the show?

It’s a glimpse into a luxury escape — and the drama onboard

mega yacht dining

Below Deck follows the lives of crew members who live and work onboard a mega-yacht.

Season one follows the likes of Captain Lee Rosback, First Officer Aleks Taldykin, Chief Stewardess Adriene Gang, Second Engineer C.J. LeBeau, Chef Ben Robinson and Deckhand David Bradberry in their everyday working and personal lives onboard the 164-foot Honor .

The first release of the series averaged 1.4 million total viewers per episode.

All of the crew that is hired to be part of the show are licensed and certified, which involves a two-week course.

Captain Lee says: “ Each of the crew members has to have an STCW, which is a standard set by the maritime industry for watch-keeping and just being on board—it’s basic first aid, firefighting. It’s a two-week course and a certification they have to have before they’re allowed to work on yachts.”

The crew is filmed 24 hours a day , seven days a week working on the boat while being filmed by both hidden cameras and a crew.

But what makes the show so addictive?

For reality TV lovers, Below Deck is one of those shows with a brand that is instantly bingeable. This is because of the on-screen romances, drama, and professional and personal turmoils that are captured on screen.

Noah Samton, the senior vice president of the production for Bravo says that the yachting industry “attracts the kind of people that are good for TV. First of all, they’re a lot of young, attractive people. A lot of people that are sort of escaping their lives for some reason or have this adventurous streak in them. We’re really good at finding the people who are going to wear it on their sleeves.”

And as with other reality TV shows, the cameras capture it all, sharing every aspect of their lives onboard.

The only place that they aren’t filmed is in the bathroom, but only one crew member can be in one at any given time.

Members have tried to get away with their personal antics being held in places without a camera — in one instance, a laundry room — but the crew quickly clocks on.

It’s this close look into their lives, combined with the personalities and the exotic locations, that make Below Deck so exciting to watch.

How is the show really filmed? Here are some of the secrets

blue waters serene environment

When the show was first released there were some questions from fans about how ‘real’ the working lives were of those on screen. But the cast actually work as real-life stewards, sometimes up to 16+ hours a day, and sleep on tiny bunks.

T he charter company actually pays each cast member a base salary; the cast is also paid an appearance fee by the production company. And they’re allowed to take tips by guests. All their food is provided by the boat’s chef, as would be in the case if they were regular employees.

The cast is not allowed to speak to, or interact with, the production team and cameraman in order to keep in line with the show’s guidelines.

Captain Lee is actually in charge of the boat, including when and where they can sail and anything that needs to be considered in terms of the weather. He can also fire anyone at any time. Production is not allowed to have any influence on this.

The boat costs upwards of $300,000 per week to hire — which is why all filming is done during the six-week period.

All cast members get three days off per season during the six weeks of filming on the boat. They can stay in a hotel room on those days, but they’re not allowed to communicate with each other.

There are also advantages for the guests on the boat, as they are given a fifty percent discount on their journey — although they pay their own money to rent the boat and for their tips.

What’s the future for Below Deck?

So far, Netflix has releases only two series of the show, but we can expect more. For the ones that can’t get the show’s pristine sceneries out of their mind, sites like borrowaboat.com have boats and yachts for every taste available to rent, perfect to recreate the sailing lifestyle.

While there are only two series so far released by Netflix, we can expect more. And the new Below Deck season eight will likely premiere sometime in the fall of 2020.

With eight seasons now, it’s likely that there could be more in the future and that audiences will be able to continue to enjoy the drama-filled lives of those who work below deck and onboard the ship.

The 14 Best TV Shows About Cruise Ships and Yachts

Top cruise ship reality, scripted, documentary, and travel series.

tv series about yachts

One of my favorite family vacations to this day will always be the 3-day cruise we took from Singapore to Malaysia on the SuperStar Virgo. Even though it was some 20 years ago, I still remember the excitement I felt walking up the grand staircase that wrapped around the Christmas tree, the inordinate amount of time I spent in the arcade room (one the jet skiing game in particular), running down the carpeted hallways to find our room, and the awe I felt at just how huge the entire ship looked from the outside.

My tiny, eight-year-old brain had a hard time processing how something so big could stay afloat, but I had no worries that it wouldn’t. I also remember thinking how cool it was that there was a swimming pool on the top deck, asking myself “how can there be water on top of water?”

It was, without a doubt, a memorable experience and one that I’d like to have again as an adult. I definitely recommend going on a cruise at least once in your life! However, since our collective 2020-2021 reality has put our travel plans to a grinding halt, the only way to do that is vicariously through our TV screens.

So we’ve put together a comprehensive list of TV shows about cruise ships for all you sea-lovers to get the travel bug somewhat out of your system. Whether the format you’re looking for is reality, travel, scripted, or documentary – we’ve got it! So put on your best cruise outfit, grab that poolside cocktail, and settle down onto your couch to binge these TV shows about cruise ships!

CRUISE SHIP REALITY SHOWS

Below deck, brave (2013 – present).

tv series about yachts

As passengers, we only ever see the surface of what happens on a cruise. We’re the consumers in this entertainment and service industry, after all. Bravo’s reality series Below Deck literally brings us below the ship’s deck – to behind the scenes of the luxurious experience of a ship.

Each season of Below Deck follows the young crew of a superyacht during the ever-busy charter season, chronicling their lives both working and living aboard the vessel.

Some of the yachties, as the crew members are also called, have a prior yachting background while others are there to personify the “work hard, party harder” attitude and bring little to no experience to the table, which always makes for an interesting team dynamic.

One thing is for sure though: there’s nothing these guys wouldn’t do to make sure their clients have the best experience possible.

Below Deck also gives a great view into the perks of working on a yacht, one of which is traveling to places like Sint Maarten, the British Virgin Islands, the Mediterranean Sea, the Bahamas, Tahiti, and most recently, Phuket!

Below Deck Mediterranean, Bravo (2016 – present)

tv series about yachts

Below Deck was so popular and successful that in March 2015, Bravo announced the arrival of its first spin-off show: Below Deck Mediterranean .

The premise of this spin-off reality show is similar to the original in that it documents the personal and professional lives of the crew on board a superyacht, this time 150-feet in length!

While the regular yachties take a break, the cast of Below Deck takes over for roughly 6 weeks and sail through all sorts of beautiful locations.

Each season features a myriad of colorful guests and customers, ranging from executives on business trips and millionaires on vacation to groups of friends looking for a good time and a sea-bound party.

Here, Chef Ben Robinson from four seasons of the original Below Deck joins the Mediterranean crew as they visit Greece, Croatia, Italy, France, and Spain!

Below Deck Sailing Yacht, Bravo (2020 – present)

tv series about yachts

News of a second Below Deck Spin-off first came in March 2019 and it wasn’t until December that year that fans got confirmation of a premiere date: for February 2020.

Entitled Below Deck Sailing Yacht , it follows the same format as its predecessors but this time, for the crew on a 180-foot luxury sailing yacht called the Parsifal III as it sails through Greece during charter season.

In a crew mixed with vastly different members, there’s bound to be some tension when certain attitudes and job ethics come to clash – and that’s what reality shows are all about, especially when you’re in a country so beautiful, surrounded by equally beautiful people!

Old relationships are tested while new ones are formed (often to the chagrin of others), but there’s never a dull day on Parsifal III.

Chef Adam Glick, who was on two seasons of Below Deck Mediterranean , joins the Sailing Yacht crew this year. However, with the second season lined up to air in March 2021, it looks like Adam will be bowing out of this new crew.

The Cruise, ITV (2016 – 2018)

tv series about yachts

It’s not glaringly obvious what the difference is between a yacht and a cruise ship, especially when there are some yachts that are the same length as a cruise!

One difference is that yachts are privately owned and directly chartered while cruise ships are owned by corporations. However, the main difference really lies in the guest experience.

On a cruise ship, you have access to amenities like a gym, pool, spa, arcade room, restaurants, what have you. Renting a yacht, though, provides a more personal and luxurious experience.

ITV’s The Cruise takes us from the yacht setting of the previous shows to an actual cruise ship, though this series does primarily follow the ship’s crew as well.

The Regal Princess ship is over 1,080 feet long and has a whopping 19 decks, so it makes sense that there are more than 1400 crew members manning operations.

The Cruise shows us the hustle and bustle of maintaining their five-star service as they go from Copenhagen to St. Petersburg, the Mediterranean, and even Alaska throughout its five seasons.

DOCUMENTARY TV SHOWS ABOUT CRUISE SHIPS

Mighty ships, discovery channel canada (2008 – 2016).

tv series about yachts

After a successful one-off special entitled Inside Queen Mary 2 , the Discovery Channel commissioned an entire series exploring the workings of the world’s mightiest ships!

What’s great about Mighty Ships is that while we do get to learn about a few cruise ships along the way, the show actually covers all types of sea vessels – probably some that you never even knew existed!

Mighty Ships lets you in on all the secrets these vessels hold throughout their voyages; from preparations made for the journey to the voyage itself, and ending when their job has been successfully delivered.

While the previous shows primarily display the crew’s interactions with each other and the guests, Mighty Ships focuses heavily on the operational and technical side of running the ships.

It even goes so far as to computer-generated animations in order to better explain to its audience certain aspects of the ship that cannot be seen or visited in person. Interlaced with that are interviews with the crew as they provide more information about the ship as well as what life is like aboard it.

Mighty Cruise Ships, Discovery Channel Canada (2014 – 2022)

tv series about yachts

Mighty Ships evolved into two spin-offs; the first was Mighty Planes that aired for four seasons and employed the same format while following various types of aircrafts. The second premiered in 2014 and was a more direct spin-off of the parent series: Mighty Cruise Ships .

Everyone wants to know what happens on these huge, extravagant, cruise ships and Mighty Cruise Ships definitely lets us witness the lavish life without having to pay the thousands of dollars that come with a cruise ship ticket.

Each episode brings us aboard a brand new ship – each with its own features, amenities, and cutting-edge technology that only seems to get better as the episodes progress.

These ships are built for their destinations, whether intended to endure the harsh cold temperatures and narrow passageways of the Nordic fjords or to breeze through the coastlines of Scotland.

On board, the ships cater to every aesthetic too – interested in Viking history? The Viking Sea is the boat for you. Looking for an adrenaline rush at sea? Check out Carnival Vista and their suspended bike loop and waterpark! Mighty Cruise Ships truly lets us see the best cruises there are to offer.

Cruise Ship Killers, Justice Network (2020 – 2022)

tv series about yachts

This next show takes a much darker turn than those that came before – if you couldn’t tell right away from the title Cruise Ship Killers . If you’ve got an interest in true crime, you’re definitely going to want to add this show to your list.

However, if that’s not your thing and you’re the kind to get paranoid pretty quickly, maybe you should skip this one. I say that because one thing’s for sure: Cruise Ship Killers might make you second guess your desire to go on a cruise – ever.

This true-crime documentary series tells the stories of people who got on a cruise expecting to have the vacation of a lifetime – only to never return or be heard from again.

Each episode will keep you guessing right from the get-go: was the businessman’s death foul play? Was the young woman kidnapped? Did he fall overboard? Did the missing woman just get off at one port and decide to stay to start a new life? There’s just no telling where each episode of Cruise Ship Killers will take us.

* Side note: if you want to look into cruise ship crimes even more, check out the Cruise Ship Disappearances episode of the Wine and Crime podcast . It’s very informative, and the hosts are also really funny!

The Cruise, BBC One (1998)

Not to be confused with the ITV reality show of the same name previously mentioned, BBC One’s The Cruise is an observational documentary series that followed the crew of the luxury cruise ship named Galaxy as it set off on its maiden voyage through the Caribbean – including a pit stop in Jamaica on Christmas Day!

While we have a chance to witness the personal lives of the crew onboard Galaxy, we also get a glimpse into how the crew handles the pressures of everyday operations on the luxury cruise. From dealing with a confrontational passenger at the ship’s casino to facing a whole congregation of born-again Christians, you truly never know what challenges a new day will bring. Not to mention the preparations for their new entertainment show!

Most notably, The Cruise is what paved the way for singer Jane McDonald, who was then an entertainer for Galaxy. After the show, she went on to become a recording artist, actress, media personality, and TV presenter. The Cruise even released two additional specials with Jane in the spotlight!

CRUISE SHIP TRAVEL SHOWS

Cruising with jane mcdonald, channel 5 (2017 – 2020).

tv series about yachts

I have always thought that hosts of these lifestyle-type shows have the best job in the world – those that get to do food and restaurant reviews, explore different countries and cultures, and now, even experience cruise ships!

Remember Jane McDonald from the previous show, The Cruise ? Well, she’s back for more sea-worthy adventures on the Channel 5 travel series, Cruising with Jane McDonald , where she films a travelogue showcasing the very best aspects of the ship, both in terms of service and aesthetics.

Right off the bat, she starts off with a mega-cruise ship called the MSC Divina through the Caribbean, where over 4000 passengers make the most of their holidays on the ship and at the port.

Throughout its six seasons, Jane travels the world one cruise ship at a time, truly living the best life.

The Voyager With Josh Garcia, NBC (2016 – 2019)

tv series about yachts

NBC’s The Voyager with Josh Garcia also follows the travelogue format through the eyes of traveler and host, Josh Garcia. However, instead of focusing solely on the experience with cruise ships, The Voyager provides a wider perspective of the world as a whole.

Josh takes his viewers with him as he travels the globe by ocean, disembarking at every port with the intention of discovering the nooks and crannies of each culture he encounters.

Each episode is a learning experience not just for Josh, but for us as well. He speaks with the locals, learns about native and regional traditions from cultural experts, and fearlessly tries the local cuisine every chance he gets.

Through The Voyager with Josh Garcia , our global wanderlust is ignited, and our traveling bucket list just keeps getting longer and longer!

SCRIPTED CRUISE SHIP TV SHOWS

High seas, netflix (2019 – 2020).

tv series about yachts

High Seas , also known as Alta Mar in its original Spanish, is a Netflix original series that aired for three seasons beginning in 2019.

Unlike the modern cruise ship settings that we’ve seen so far, High Seas takes place on a luxury ocean liner in the 1940s!

Sisters Eva and Carolina Villanueva climb aboard the Barbara de Braganza liner as it voyages from Spain to Brazil. Unbeknownst to the other passengers and crew, they’ve smuggled a mysterious woman onboard after she pleaded for their help.

Things go terribly awry when the woman is thrown overboard and Eva, a curious and headstrong writer, launches an investigation into the mysterious goings-on on the ship.

Eventually, both she and her sister discover shocking secrets that tie into their family’s dark past. Who are they supposed to believe?

Sadly, the fourth season of High Seas was originally planned to continue the series but was subsequently canceled in mid-2020.

Wreck, BBC Three (2022 – present)

tv series about yachts

One of the newest shows on this list of top cruise ship shows is BBC Three’s horror-comedy series Wreck .

The series follows Jamie Walsh, a nineteen-year-old who takes a job on a board cruise ship called The Sacramentum to figure out what happened to his sister, who went missing from the same ship three months ago.

As Jamie learns the ins and outs of living and working on a ship, he befriends other crew members in order to help with his investigation into the disappearance of his sister and how a recent attack on a crew member could be connected to it.

The Love Boat, ABC (1977 – 1986)

tv series about yachts

The Love Boat is a scripted rom-com/drama series that aired on ABC more than 30 years ago! However, when watching this series you’ll find that a lot of the scenarios portrayed are still reflected, to some extent, in the reality shows on this list as well.

The show takes us on board the MS Pacific Princess, a luxury passenger cruise ship. Captain Merrill Stubing is at the helm, guiding not only the ship himself but his crew members as they attempt to deal with a new passenger’s antics in each episode.

These crew members included the cruise directors, photographer, purser, bartender, doctor, and eventually, even a troupe of dancers!

The Love Boat was based on the original made-for-TV movie of the same name, which in turn was based on the non-fiction book Love Boats.

The reason the scenarios in this show seem so true to life is because the book was written by Jeraldine Saunders, a real-life passenger cruise ship director !

Avenue 5, HBO (2020 – 2022)

tv series about yachts

Science fiction and dark comedy collide in this HBO original, bringing cruise ships to a place you never could have imagined: space. Yup, you read that right! Titled Avenue 5 , this is also the name of the interplanetary cruise ship owned by Herman Judd (played by Josh Gad) and captained by Ryan Clark (played by Hugh Laurie).

While setting off on an eight-week-long cruise, Avenue 5 experiences technical difficulties that set off a devastating chain of events: a temporary loss of gravity and the Chief Engineer’s accidental death, causing the ship to veer off-course.

When it’s estimated to take three years for them to return to Earth, Captain Clark and his crew need to figure out how to keep their passengers calm, collected, and safe – even as mishaps are happening left and right. Will they ever be able to make it back home?

‘Shadow and Bone’ Is the Best Boat Drama of 2021

Where to stream:.

  • Shadow and Bone

I think Shadow and Bone is a good show. Maybe. To be perfectly honest, I don’t really know. There’s so much lore I don’t understand, and whenever British accents fuse with wild fantasy my brain immediately starts to fog. I have no idea why. Hell, I had a Legolas cardboard cutout and a One Ring to Rule Them All necklace as a very cool teenager and I still had to talk myself into going to every Lord of the Rings movie. But there is one thing I can say with absolute certainly about Shadow and Bone: t his series has some of the best boat acting around.

I don’t mean that the actors are good at pretending an on-set boat is real, though they are. I mean that the old-timey ships in this Netflix original are top tier.

We’re not talking about a single scene on one measly raft. No, captain. Some of Season 1’s biggest moments take place on weathered, land-bound sea vessels. By the way, they call these boats skiffs, which is patently wrong. Skiffs refer to small boats, but fine. Hollywood can’t get everything right. When Alina (Jessie Mei Li) first uses her powers as the Sun Summoner, it’s aboard a magnificent galleon — not a skiff. That big moment comes after several appreciative shots of sails, and ropes, and deckhands hard at work. Awesome.

The middle of the season, however, features a disturbing lack of ships. Occasionally, a docked schooner or another galleon can be seen as background dressing. But then there’s Episode 8, an ending that was perfectly summed up to me by The New York Post’s Lauren Sarner via Slack: “good boat drama finale, 10/10.”

It’s a ship that becomes the home of the finale’s biggest battle. And they don’t phone in their shipwork either. There’s lots of scrambling up and down the crow’s nest, dodging beams, and throwing people over the edge into the terrifying ocean  fairly safe sand. Where does Mal (Archie Renaux) jump aside to let a volcra snatch up The Darkling (Ben Barnes)? (See what I mean about insane lore?) Where does Alina finally gain full control over summoning light? As The Lonely Island would say, “take a good hard look at the motherfucking boat.”

And guess what? There are MORE boats coming in Shadow and Bones second season. This season ended with Alina and Mal sailing away from Ravka and the other characters sailing to Ketterdam, voyages they all took on the actual water. That journey is going to continue. No more land seas! Actual sea seas are in our future!

'Shadow and Bone' Canceled By Netflix After 2 Seasons

New shows & movies to watch this weekend: netflix's shadow and bone + more, ‘shadow and bone’ showrunner says they are “ready to launch” a ‘six of crows’ spin-off, does mal die in 'shadow and bone'.

Look, boats are just cool. As a Floridian, I know I’m biased, but it’s true. They’re mini houses filled with matches, sharp objects, and electricity that sail across water, daring the gods to set them ablaze. Taunting the ocean with fire? Throwing heavy stuff into liquid and refusing to sink? That’s as metal as it gets. Boats and ships are also baller from a practical standpoint. They let you do all the punches and flips you can do on land, but with the added bonus of letting you commune with nature. Plus, if you get sick of the salty air and the boat is big enough, they have cabins which are basically little apartments.

All of that is objectively rad. And yet so many shows refuse to acknowledge how awesome boats can be. Not Shadow and Bone. This show didn’t just fully commit to putting pirate-like ships onscreen. It elevated these vessels, turning these magnificent ships into characters. Not a main one like Alina or Mal, but a respectable recurring character, like Danielle Galligan’s Nina. That level of excellence is worth a few hours of your binge-watching time.

Howards' Way, The Onedin Line and The River...YBW brings you the pick of sailing and boating TV programmes over the last 50 years. How many do you remember?

Sailing TV programmes - Howards' Way, Black Sails, The River, Hornblower

Howards’ Way

Filmed on the River Hamble and The Solent, Howards’ Way was the classic 1980s BBC One TV series about the sailing community in the fictional town of Tarrant on the south coast.

The initial series focused on the Howard family, as Tom, who has been made redundant, follows his dream to design and build boats, and invests in the Mermaid Boatyard (in reality the Elephant Boatyard at Bursledon), which is run by Jack Rolfe and his daughter Avril.

The programme also featured brash power boating entrepreneur Ken Masters, who employs Tom’s wife Jan, Howard’s grown up children Leo and Lynne, and a host of other characters such as millionaire businessman, Charles Frere and the Urquhart family.

Howards’ Way ran for six series from 1985 to 2000.

The Onedin Line

Set in Liverpool between 1860 and 1886, The Onedin Line charts the rise of a family run shipping line, owned by the son of a waterside shopkeeper, the ruthless James Onedin.

Running from 1971-1980, the series followed the lives of the Onedin family, and the rivalry between Onedin and his sister, Elizabeth, who along with her husband runs a rival shipping line.

As well as dramatising life in the late 1800s, the TV programme, which ran for eight season, charts the changes in shipping, with the shift from wooden to steel ships, and from sailing to steam ships.

Expect this saga to deliver rivalry and ambition, as well as tempestuous women and stormy seas.

Under the umbrella title, Hornblower, these epic award-winning films are based on some of   C.S. Forester’s classic adventure stories  about the Royal Navy officer, Horatio Hornblower.

Set during the 18th century Napoleonic Wars, the series charts the rise of Hornblower, played by Ioan Gruffudd, from a young and shy midshipman to admiral, braving bloody engagements at sea and encounters with ladies.

The series also stars Robert Lindsay and Cherie Lunghi and ran from 7 October 1998 until 6 January 2003.

This gentle BBC romantic comedy stared David Essex as the solitary canal lock-keeper, Davey Jackson, whose life is never the same again after he meets Sarah.

She is forced to stay at Davey’s cottage while she is waiting for repairs to her barge, and the pair fall in love.

The series was screened in 1988 and also featured original music by David Essex.

It was filmed along Wootton Rivers in Wiltshire, and is full of shots of beautiful English countryside.

Usually referred to as one of the most derided soaps of all time, Triangle was set, believe it or not, on board a North Sea ferry sailing between Felixstowe and Gothenburg.

The BBC One show, which stared Kate O’Mara, Larry Lamb and Michael Craig, ran from 1981 to 1983.

The show however had its issues. Part of the problem was the series was seen by the audience as dull and gloomy, as it was shot in inclement weather on board an actual ferry in the North Sea.

The script was also seen as stilted and clichéd, which eventually led to it being cancelled after three series.

Black Sails

Set during the Golden Age of Piracy in the Caribbean, around two decades before Treasure Island, Black Sails follows Captain Flint, played by Toby Stephens.

The series see Captain Flint battling to save his home, the former British colony of New Providence Island, from the returning British Navy, and his alliance with Eleanor Guthrie (Hannah New).

Characters include a young John Silver, as well as real life pirates, including Anne Bonny and Blackbeard, who are fictionalised in the show.

The final fourth season is currently being shown on Amazon Prime.

TV programme Mutiny to recreate Captain Bligh’s legendary journey of survival

Three Men in a Boat

Recreating the original Jerome K Jerome novel, Dara Ó Briain, Rory McGrath and Griff Rhys Jones take to the River Thames in a wooden skiff.

The BBC Two two-part series follows their sometimes hilarious journey from Kingston-upon-Thames to Oxford and takes in the likes of Henley-on-Thames and Cliveden House.

The format proved so successful that six more series were commissioned – Three Men in Another Boat, Three Men in More Than One boat, Three Men go to Ireland, Three Men go to Scotland, Three Men go to Venice and Three Men go to New England.

Island Race

During his long incarceration as a hostage in Beirut, John McCarthy had a dream of sailing with the wind in his hair.

On his release, he was invited to sail around Britain in three months with his friend, the comedian Sandi Toksvig, and the pair teamed up with Yachting Monthly and Yachting World contributor Tom Cunliffe.

Island Race: An Improbable Voyage Round the Coast of Britain was shown in eight parts on BBC Two in 1995, and showcased the best of British sailing.

The boat used was Cunliffe’s own 1911 Bristol Channel pilot cutter, Hirta.

Great Canal Journeys

The Channel 4 series follows acting couple Timothy West and Prunella Scales as they explore the canals of the UK and Europe.

Running since 2014, Great Canal Journeys has seen the self-confessed “canal nuts” navigate the likes of the  Oxford Canal, the Kennet and Avon, Rochdale and Llangollen in North Wales.

They have also ventured further afield to France, Venice, Sweden and Amsterdam.

These insightful journeys are full of charm, nostalgia, personal insight and heartfelt humour

The series offers a vicarious encounter with the world of slow travel and the camaraderie of canal life as well as the chance to see beautiful countryside.

Timothy Spall…at Sea series

The Timothy Spall at Sea series follows the actor Timothy Spall and his wife Shane as they take their 52-foot-long seagoing (category C) Dutch barge, the Princess Matilda, on a trip around the British Coast.

Their “mini-odyssey” was shown on BBC Four in three series  – Timothy Spall: Somewhere at Sea, Timothy Spall: Back at Sea and Timothy Spall: All at Sea.

As well as mainland Britain, the couple also sailed to Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man.

Boat shows are popular since they allow the general public to learn and understand the industry better and appreciate and adopt the boating lifestyle. Boat shows are an industry itself, with different international organizations focused on managing and staging boat shows annually.

They are held in all 50 states and throughout the globe in various countries. The season generally starts in October and continues till March. Most small and regional shows are held at marinas or inside convention centers, which makes them easy to browse.

What to do at a boat show?

Boats for sale are, without a doubt, the main attraction of a boat show , but there’s so much more you can do while attending one. From trying new foods to indulging in different water activities, a boat show has a lot to offer.

  • Bring a camera or a notebook to record notes along with information on different boat sellers, and be sure to hand them your business card. This will help you solidify your network.
  • By interacting with the dealers, check out brand-new deals and the latest boating technology.
  • Browse through the shops and take home a souvenir or two.
  • Get “hands-on” knowledge regarding a boat or a boating accessory by attending a seminar or workshop to see their inner workings.
  • Indulge in some delectable foods from the stalls.
  • Some boat shows offer water activities, such as fishing and scuba diving. Grab your friends and family and make new memories with those fun aquatic adventures.
You got your event admission (tickets) and ready to see the attractions along with the gathering of attendees & boaters. Make sure to look for bargains for you to purchase and boat displays and latest boat models. Expect to se clothing for boaters and learn about the latest boat devices and electronics (products/accessories/technology) from special exhibits by big name exhibitors. All this will add to the experience for a watercraft show whether it was put on by an insurance company or a boating industry association. Yacht shows could even have brokerages or NMMA/BoatUS booths.

Are boat shows the best time to buy? | Do boat shows have good deals

Boat shows are an excellent time for dealers to display their products and make big sales. Since the competition is fierce, you can most likely avail of big discounts and benefit from good deals. You also get the opportunity to browse a huge variety of boats and select one that fits your needs perfectly. You can get expert advice about vessels you’re interested in from competitors since they’re more likely to point out drawbacks or flaws of the craft.

At the end of the day, the best time to buy a boat is when you’re ready for investment and adventure. Whether you buy a boat from a boat show, through a broker, or privately through a website, do a thorough background check and get an unbiased second opinion.

How Captain Lee became TV’s favourite yacht captain

It was supposed to be a simple delivery job from Fort Lauderdale to St Maarten. But when the first captain lined up to take the helm of Bravo’s hit new series dropped out, it was captain Lee Rosbach who became the unlikely star. Holly Overton catches up with Below Deck’s beloved captain…

Captain Lee or ‘Stud of the Sea’, as he’s known among fans, is the frontman of superyacht reality series Below Deck . Famed for his no-nonsense attitude and sharp one-liners, Captain Lee is the longest-serving captain on the show and has been a staple cast member since the first season began filming in 2011. But it was only by complete accident that he first landed the role.

“I didn’t apply for the job. I didn't even audition,” Captain Lee explains. At the time, he was the captain of the 50 metre Benetti motor yacht Cuor di Lione when he received a phone call from the owner. “He said there’s a TV network that wants to charter the boat for eight weeks (…) they've got their own captain and crew and all you need to do is drop the boat off in St. Maarten.”

But when Captain Lee arrived in St. Maarten, the captain Bravo had originally lined up to front the first series had pulled at the last minute. “Somebody said, ’why don't we use the old guy’,” Captain Lee explains. As a result, he was slingshotted into the spotlight – and almost a decade later he’s still at the helm. “We didn't know whether the show was going to be a hit or be a one and done. We had no clue. But after that first season it just took off like a rocket.”

Below Deck follows the lives of a yacht crew over an intense eight-week charter season. Captain Lee himself once described it as “Downton Abbey on the water” for the way it lays bare the upstairs-downstairs culture of yachting. The series’ winning formula of badly behaved guests, crew love triangles and Verve Cliquot-fuelled feuds has continued to pull in millions of views, transforming it into one of Bravo’s flagship shows. Despite his newfound fame, Captain Lee is reluctant to call himself a celebrity. “I'm just a captain doing his job,” he says. “I run the boat the way I've always run a boat. I just happened to have cameras that follow me around watching me while I do it.”

Of course, this wasn’t captain Lee’s first gig. “I'd been a captain for 25 years at that point,” he explains. “Like everybody else I started out with smaller boats 70- or 80-footers, then gradually you work your way up as you increase the scope of your license and eventually, I got into superyachts.” Over his career, he’s built up a hefty portfolio of yachts, including the 46 metre Burger flagship Sycara IV ( now Nadan ) and the 50 metre Cuor di Leone (now Barents ), which was chartered for season one under the pseudonym Honor .

While most reality TV series have scenes that are manufactured or re-shot in the name of entertainment, Below Deck is completely unscripted with cameras rolling 24/7. The yacht is rigged with cameras with up to 15 additional camera, light and sound crew on board at any one time – including the show’s producers who eavesdrop from one of the cabins on board. Bravo has to charter a second boat to accommodate them all. The team ends up filming some 45,000 hours of film which gets condensed into around 15 forty-minute episodes in post-production per season.

As a veteran captain, Captain Lee is no stranger to onboard drama. But the guests in front of a camera and it's a whole different ball game. “When the cameras start rolling, it’s like someone flips a switch,” says Captain Lee. Crazy guest requests are not uncommon in yachting; from sundeck foam parties to phallic cakes nothing is off limits. “It always seems to revolve around food, for some reason,” says Captain Lee. He recalls a time an owner demanded a particular suckling pig be flown into Baltimore from New Zealand for New Year’s Eve with just four days’ notice. “By the time you calculate the bills of lading and air freight, and of course we had to grease customs a little, it was probably a $10,000 pig.”

Despite the perks and pitfalls of fronting Below Deck , Captain Lee insists it’s a great opportunity for budding crew looking to take their first steps into the yachting industry.  “There are a lot of perks that go along with it,” he says. “The money is pretty good and almost all of it is disposable income.” It’s true – everything is paid for when you’re on board from your socks down to your toothbrush. “That's the best way to go boating I think,” he laughs, “on somebody else's boat.”

Map Shows Riley Strain Timeline From Disappearance to New Clue Being Found

A map shows missing college student, Riley Strain's movements in Nashville, Tennessee, from when he vanished following a night out with friends on March 8 to the latest update.

Strain, a 22-year-old University of Missouri student, had been enjoying a trip to Nashville with his fraternity brothers when he disappeared. Surveillance footage shows him stumbling and struggling to walk in a straight line after he became separated from his friends when he was kicked out of a Country music star Luke Bryan's bar, Luke's 32 Bridge. Strain hasn't been seen since, and his disappearance has sparked a huge manhunt. Described as 6'5" tall with a thin build, blue eyes and light brown hair, anyone with information should call police on 615-862-8600.

According to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), some 600,000 people go missing in the U.S. every year. Analysis of missing adults over the age of 21 by Statista revealed that 100,492 men and 62,552 women went missing in 2021.

Metro Nashville Police Department reported Strain left the bar around 9:40 p.m. on March 8 after being asked to leave. Strain had told his friend he would meet them back at their hotel; his friends did not immediately leave the bar with him.

Released surveillance shows Strain's movements following his departure from the bar as he can be see stumbling off in the opposite direction of his hotel and crashing into a pole off Church Street.

Strain can then be seen stumbling onto Gay Street near the river, holding his head in some of the footage. Surveillance video last captures Strain on Gay Street near the James Robertson Bridge, according to Metro Police.

Meanwhile, phone tracking last placed Strain about a half-mile from the bar between Gay Street and James Robertson Parkway, no other surveillance footage captures him beyond that point.

A huge police hunt was launched, involving search teams on foot, while drones, helicopters, and boats, were also deployed.

The college student's family left their Springfield home and drove for seven hours to Nashville to help join the search.

On Sunday, a new update revealed by Metro Nashville Police Department said they had found his bank card on the embankment between Gay Street and the Cumberland River.

Newsweek has reached out to Metro Nashville Police Department via email for comment.

Strain's disappearance has also sparked concerns over whether the college student was over-served at Luke's 32 Bridge bar.

The Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission said it is investigating whether Strain was over-served before his disappearance, ABC News reported.

However, TC Restaurant Group, the operator and owner of Luke's 32 Bridge, said it only served Strain one alcoholic beverage and two waters and asked him to leave in line with their conduct standards.

The group added it is working with police "to provide security camera footage and any other potentially helpful information to aid in the search for Riley Strain. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones for his safe return."

California yacht owner threatens to kill dock worker in vicious showdown, cali yacht owner threatens to kill dock worker drops pants for rude salute, 95 3/13/2024 8:09 am pt.

A California yacht owner's vicious beef with a dock worker has reached death-threat levels -- and their exchange was caught on camera and included a nude, and very rude, gesture!

Check out the clip ... it all unfolds when San Diego entrepreneur Ajay Thakore swings by the swanky Marriott Marquis Marina in his rare $4.5M Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 yacht to pick up one of his employees -- but things boil over when dock worker Joseph Holt tells him he can't be there.

Thakore, the CEO of medical advertising firm Doctor Multimedia, flips out on Holt big time ... and starts spewing threats like, "I will kill you, you know I will kill you, I will kill."

And it doesn't stop there -- as Thakore's pulling out of the harbor, he drops trou to make a full frontal salute in Holt's direction. Stay classy, San Diego!

Holt's only retaliation was flipping the bird, and he later told CBS8 that was all he could do to keep his cool and avoid escalating the situation.

Holt says parts of the altercation were not captured on camera, and he adds ... Thakore not only threatened to kill him, but also claimed to have connections who could totally mess up his life.

Holt also says Thakore pulled out $100 bills and tossed them at him, even chucking some in the water.

BTW, Thakore's done some backpedaling since the ugly exchange -- he now says, "The interaction that occurred yesterday was regrettable. What started as a minor misunderstanding escalated into an argument, and I apologize for my actions and to those who witnessed the unfortunate exchange."

Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.

FWIW ... One of Thakore’s employees claims the whole thing began because other dock workers blocked him from boarding the yacht.

Oh, and if that fancy Lambo yacht looks familiar -- it's the same one Chuck Liddell recently tumbled off just last month. Now it's famous AND infamous!

Inside "Axe" Axelrod's Yacht Featured In Billions TV Series

By Oliver Pearson   7 June 2016

As we announced in an earlier article, the real name of the superyacht featured on the TV series 'Billions' is the 46m/150ft motor yacht ‘Carpe Diem II’ . Having looked at how much she costs to rent in the Bahamas and Miami , we now take a look inside of the highly luxurious charter yacht.

Whilst disguised as ‘The Good Life’, the superyacht which starred on the Showtime series ‘Billions’ bears the equally appropriate name Carpe Diem II .

An entirely suitable choice for the TV series which has also captivated audiences over at Sky Atlantic, she includes a richly sophisticated interior and all of the entertainment options necessary for a high flying hedge fund manager.

In this piece we go beyond the brochures and discuss in greater depth the design of the motor yacht , and how exactly she would function on a luxury yacht charter vacation .

So, step on board and familiarise yourself a little better with the amenities and features which abound on Carpe Diem II.

The main salon inside the yacht from TV show Billions

Upon entering Carpe Diem II, charter guests are immediately treated to a tastefully opulent interior- with artful splashes of purple adding a touch of color to the airy space.

In this area, those on board are able to relax in ample comfort with the option of a state of the art media center or a few drinks from the bar to keep them occupied.

A short distance away, the circular formal dining table matches the glamour of the main salon, with dark mahogany panelling flanking the space capable of seating the entire party.

Elsewhere inside, the upper salon provides charterers the chance to unwind after a day on the water with panoramic views accessible from a nicely intimate setting.

It should also be pointed out that all 5 of the guest cabins are more than sufficient for a rock star hedge fund manager and his family. Indeed, each has its own en suite and unique character whilst remaining consistent with the high quality of the yacht’s social spaces.

True to her name, charter yacht Carpe Diem II is perfectly primed for charterers to get the most out of their days on the water

The sundeck and Jacuzzi onboard the yacht featured on TV series Billions

The exterior of motor yacht Carpe Diem II is just as impressive as her interior, and couldn’t be more primed for her charter grounds in the Bahamas and Miami .

The various alfresco dining options, for example, range from a casual arrangement on the main deck, to a shaded table on the sundeck, and even a breakfast area located at the aft side of the Portuguese bridge.

For the more adventurous charterers, there’s an abundance of towable water toys and tenders as well as some snorkelling gear for getting better acquainted with the marine life around her charter grounds.

In order to take in the coasts and climate in a truly stylish fashion, Carpe Diem II also features a Jacuzzi on the sundeck forward which allows guests to take a soak whilst enjoying uninterrupted views of the ocean.

Russia ordered new defenses meant to stop its navy getting humiliated by Ukrainian drones

  • Russia's defense minister visited the HQ of Russia's troubled Black Sea Fleet.
  • Ukraine has scored a series of striking victories, sinking powerful warships with sea drones.
  • The Russian minister, Sergei Shoigu, announced plans meant to stop that happening again.

Insider Today

Russia's defense minister, Sergei Shoigu, issued new orders on Monday meant to stop so many Russian ships from being sunk by Ukraine.

Russia's Defence Ministry on Sunday announced that Shoigu had visited the Russian Black Sea Fleet headquarters in occupied Crimea.

There, Shoigu was updated on Ukrainian attacks on the fleet and ordered the fleet to conduct "training for personnel every day," the update said.

It was to cover "how to repel attacks from the air and by uncrewed boats," reported the AFP newswire.

He also ordered vessels to be fitted with extra weaponry, including large-caliber machine guns, to help repel attacks.

The visit comes in the wake of a series of audacious sea-drone and missile attacks by Ukraine that devastated the fleet.

Related stories

It is unclear whether the new measures will help — footage of a previous sea-drone attack showed Russians attempting to counter them without much success .

Ukraine claims to have sunk or disabled around a third of Russia's fleet, which was once the Black Sea's dominant naval power.

It has been an unusual bright spot for Ukraine, which is heavily outmatched by Russia on land and in the air.

The latest success came on March 6, when Ukraine said it used sea drones to sink the Sergei Kotov, a Russian patrol ship.

The sinking provoked the fury of Russian nationalist bloggers who accused the Kremlin of incompetence.

Mounting losses forced Russia to relocate vessels from Sevastopol to other, smaller ports on the Russian coast, such as Novorossiysk, which are further from the reach of Ukrainian drones and missiles.

The Kremlin is said to have fired the fleet's commanding officer in response to the defeats, in keeping with other times it has removed senior figures without announcing it formally.

Shoigu's visit appeared to be an attempt to shore up morale.

The Institute for the Study of War, a US think tank, assessed that Shoigu was setting himself up to either claim credit if the new measures prove successful or  "blame other commanders" should they fail.
