Formerly an industrial site specializing in the manufacture of oil tankers, the shipyards of La Ciotat, renamed La Ciotat Shipyards, have been converted into a nautical pole of international dimension whose activity is the maintenance, upkeep and repair of large yachts. Today, La Ciotat Shipyards, is the leading site for refit and repair of Super Yachts.

More than 150 yachts , some of which exceed 100 metres in length , are welcomed each year on the site thanks to the presence of numerous port infrastructures. Their number and size are constantly evolving.

La Ciotat Shipyards also has the management of the Old Port whose capacity amounts to 418 berths in the sea and 216 places on land .

Did you know?

In 2022, the La Ciotat shipyards inaugurated a new XXL boat elevator – Atlas – with a lifting capacity of up to 4300 tons. A further step in the development of the site, specialized in the repair and maintenance of luxury yachts.

MB92 La Ciotat welcomes first client onto its new 4,300-tonne shiplift

The platform will be formally launched in late 2022….

MB92 La Ciotat announced that its new 4,300-tonne shiplift has successfully hauled out its first client, the 60m superyacht Bella Vita , built by Lürssen   in 2010. It will be joined by a number of other large yachts over the coming weeks before the platform is formally inaugurated later this year.

The construction of the 4,300-tonne facility, which can accommodate six superyachts simultaneously up to 115m in length, represents a total investment of €47.6m for MB92 Group and was delivered on time despite multiple challenges from Covid-19 and supply chain issues.

The expansions, managed alongside La Ciotat Shipyards over the past 30 months, brought together 80 companies and involved the tenacity and professionalism of hundreds of people to create one of the industry’s most technologically and environmentally innovative superyacht platforms.

In addition to standard amenities, the facility hosts a number of innovative features aimed at ensuring ultimate safety and security for each yacht while significantly reducing the project’s ecological footprint:

Safety & Security:

• Innovative solid chain jack lifting system with built-in redundancy for safety.
• Accurate position control and synchronisation providing a perfectly level lift within 10mm across the entire platform.
• Closed Area with dedicated access control centre (ISPS compliance ongoing) in addition to main shipyard security gate.
• 24/7 Video Surveillance.

Environmental features:

• Onshore power up to 2400 Amps per vessel.
• Black and grey water collection central collection and processing.
• Zero discharge waste and run-off water treatment system to ensure zero sea water contamination
• Waste recycling centres for each yacht.
• Huge central compressed air system with noise treatment cabin to reduce localised noise near vessels
• The world’s largest harbour-based artificial fish nursery.
• Electric vehicle recharging stations.

The new facility complements the shipyard’s existing range of berthing solutions that caters for all segments of the superyacht market. A 300-tonne travelift for 14 yachts up to 50m (300t Origins), a 2,000-tonne shiplift for four superyachts up to 80m, and the 200m drydock that can accommodate between one and four yachts simultaneously.

Driving the Route des Crêtes that goes from La Ciotat to Cassis passing Cap Canaille and the Soubeyranes cliffs; the highest maritime cliffs in France (394 metres).

“The views are amazing and there are plenty of places to stop for a photo. Cassis is a lovely setting for a drink at the traditional fishing port and it’s more laid-back and authentic than Saint-Tropez.”

“About 5 minutes drive from Cassis port, you can easily park and explore Calanque de Port-Miou with walking trails amongst pine trees. If you’re not pushed for time, it’s worth visiting Calanque de Sormiou located closer to Marseille with turquoise water set against the towering cliffs of the Calanques National Park – just be aware that in high season you can only get vehicle access down to the beach car park by booking a lunch reservation at Le Château restaurant.”

86m Amore Vero seized in France under EU sanctions against Russia

The French authorities have seized the 85.6-metre Oceanco superyacht Amore Vero in La Ciotat in the South of France under new sanctions issued by the European Union against Russia.

The yacht was seized by customs in the French port on March 2 after it was found in breach of the law by attempting to leave.

In a statement, the French Ministry of Economy and Finance linked the yacht to Igor Sechin, who was added to a list of sanctioned individuals by the European Union on February 28. The sanction document said Sechin was one of Vladimir Putin's "most trusted and closest advisors" and "one of the most powerful members of the Russian political elite."

The statement said: "This attempt to leave French territorial waters constituted an offence on the basis of article 459 of the customs code, aimed at 'any person' contravening 'the measures restricting economic relations and financial resources provided for by community regulations'."

"This yacht fell within the scope of the freezing measures decided against its owner. Immediately applicable, these measures required the immobilisation of the vessel."

Amore Vero arrived in La Ciotat on January 2 where repairs were due to be carried out over three months. "The ship was making arrangements to sail urgently without having completed the planned work," the statement read.

The vessel was stopped and boarded by authorities who spent "several hours" on board.

Bruno Le Maire, minister of economy, finance and relations and Olivier Dussopt, minister of public action and accounts, said: "We thank the customs for this seizure reviewed in the context of the implementation of the sanctions of the European Union against Russia."

Amore Vero was built by Dutch shipyard Oceanco and delivered to its owner in 2013 under the name St. Princess Olga . 

Meanwhile, German authorities have denied reports that 156 metre Lurssen motor yacht Dilbar has been seized. Recent press reports said the yacht had been seized in the port of Hamburg, but a spokesperson for the city's economic authority said: "No yachts have been confiscated."

Une femme âgée de 74 ans a été retrouvée morte dans la mer Méditerranée, à La Ciotat, dans les Bouches-du-Rhône, samedi 17 août 2024.

Elle a été repérée par d’autres baigneurs, assez loin de la rive. Un homme a sorti de l’eau une femme âgée de 74 ans et lui a prodigué les premiers secours avant l’arrivée des pompiers, rapporte BFM .

Malgré l’intervention rapide du Sdis 13, la septuagénaire n’a pas survécu. Originaire d’Aubagne, la victime a été localisée en dehors de la zone de baignade, ont précisé les secours.

Ses petites-filles sur la plage

Les circonstances de son décès restent, pour l’heure, inconnues. Les deux petites-filles de la victime attendaient leur grand-mère sur la plage Lumière, à La Ciotat, quand le drame est survenu, précise Le Parisien .

Deux autres décès

Deux personnes ont déjà perdu la vie sur des plages du département des Bouches-du-Rhône dimanche 28 juillet 2024. L’une, victime d’une noyade, l’autre d’une probable insolation ayant entraîné un malaise.
