Olympic Yacht Show: 15,000 visitors attended third edition

Monday, November 6th, 2023

Written by: Marine Industry News

Olympic Yacht Show 2023

Greece’s largest in-water show, the Olympic Yacht Show, has revealed details of attendance following the third edition of the four-day show, which ran from 19-22 October 2023.

Held at the facilities of Olympic Marine in Lavrio, the Olympic Yacht Show welcomed more than 15,000 visitors this year, who came to examine 120 new boats on display in the show’s floating section, including several national and European premiers. Managers of 100 brands and manufacturers were also in attendance.

“The upward trend in attendance and exhibitor participation at the 3rd Olympic Yacht Show is a token of the avid interest of the Greek market in high-quality sea tourism and proves that our country can boast top professionals in the yachting sector,” says Giorgos Riginos, CEO of Riginos SA, which sponsored the event.

“We believe that the Olympic Yacht Show is a pivotal organisation since it gives us the opportunity to show our boats in their natural environment, the sea.”

Kostas Koronakis, CEO of rope manufacturer D. Koronakis S.A. adds: “The direct interaction with our clients helped us get valuable feedback, and we are now ready to further improve our products for next year. The Olympic Yacht Show was even better than the first two years. I need to focus on the floating section of the exhibition, which, to our satisfaction, has grown even bigger.”

Nikos Zarifis, managing director of Thrace Labea, adds: “The Olympic Yacht Show has become an institution, a prospect we already predicted the first year it was held. This year, we brought to the show all of the new Saxdor models and visitors had the opportunity to see for the first time in Greece the new 400 that premiered in Monaco. We are very pleased with the attendance and promise to be back in 2024.”

Dimitris Deligiannis, managing partner of Atalanta Marine, also notes: “Atalanta Marine was the first company to support the Olympic Yacht Show. It is the only show able to support the boats we represent. For yet another year, we have received great feedback from the public, much to our satisfaction.”

The 2023 Olympic Yacht Show, organised by Ondeck Events , was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy, the Ministry of Tourism, the GNTO, the Prefecture of Attica, the Marine Chamber of Greece, the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Greek Marinas Association, the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Municipality of Lavreotiki.

The latest Kismet will make its public debut at the Monaco Yacht Show in late September. For now, it’s chartering in the Med, either with owner Shahid Khan or with guests willing to pay about $3.25 million per week.

The current 400-foot Kismet is a supersized, more refined version of the last vessel, with the same features and even more extravagance, including an underwater Nemo lounge (a bubble in the bottom of the hull for seeing marine life) beneath the cinema, a duplex owner’s suite, a Balinese-inspired spa, and a retro, neon dance floor. Oh, and the jaguar on the bow is permanent this time.

The boat, which accommodates up to 12 guests in 8 staterooms, has a crew of 37. But for social events, it can hold dozens of people, including dining options for 24 on the upper deck, 18 on the main deck and 14 on both the top and pool decks.

Superyacht Kismet Balinese spa.

It’s the third boat for Khan by Lürssen, which builds the world’s largest superyachts. “The yacht has exceeded all expectations of the client,” noted Peter Lürssen, the firm’s managing partner.

Beyond the amenities, including a DJ station, a custom Boganyi grand piano, a teppanyaki cooking station, and many others, it has a hybrid diesel-electric power train. That hybrid system makes it one of the world’s largest vessels that can go into full-electric mode in eco-sensitive areas, while also having features like a heat-recovery system for heating the pools.

Kismet's forward helipad converts into a basketball court.

Last year, Khan was supposed to meet with journalists at Monaco to discuss Kismet and his career as a yacht owner, but the then- Kismet (renamed Whisper ) sold just before the show, so that never happened.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo and other French officials swam in the River Seine on Wednesday, suggesting the river was clean enough to host swimming competitions in the upcoming Olympics after a decades-long clean-up effort—though the company responsible for the city’s water supply and other organizations have warned the river has unsafe pollution levels, sparking local protests.

The city’s water supplier has warned of E. Coli in the river in the weeks leading up to the ... [+] Olympics.

Eau de Paris, the city’s government-affiliated water supply company, said last month the Seine had tested for unsafe levels of E. coli pollution at four different sections of the river for the third consecutive week, including one area that was roughly double the limit set by the World Triathlon Federation.

Hidalgo’s office responded in a statement saying the river’s water quality “remains degraded” because of “unfavorable” conditions, like above-average temperatures and rainfall, according to Agence France-Presse.

Surfrider Foundation Europe completed 14 tests on water samples taken from two spots on the Seine—including the starting spot for the Olympic and Paralympic triathlon and marathon swimming events—between September and March, none of which met European Union regulations, the water charity said earlier this year.

Only one spot did not indicate alarming levels of bacteria like E. coli and enterococcus faecalis, a bacteria found in human fecal matter, according to the group.

In April, Tony Estanguet, president of the Paris Organizing Committee, reportedly said that while officials are “confident that it will be possible to use the Seine,” there could be a “final decision where we could not swim,” specifically referring to a scenario involving heavy rain, which could lead to increased E. coli levels in the river.

The International Olympic Committee said in a statement to NBC News the triathlon could be canceled or turned into a duathlon—just running and cycling—if the river’s water is too polluted, while organizers have set up another location outside Paris for marathon swimming if needed.

Hidalgo, Estanguet and Marc Guillaume, who is responsible for safety and traffic on the Seine, took a dip in the river on Wednesday with some local swimmers. Estanguet told NBC News the swim was “confirmation that we are ready for the games,” adding the river’s “quality is perfect.” French President Emmanuel Macron previously said he would swim in the Seine to showcase the city’s efforts to clean the river, saying it would be “an important legacy” of the Olympics for the Seine to be included in the events. He has not indicated if or when he would swim.

What Events Will Be Held In The Seine?

The opening ceremony for the Olympics is scheduled for July 26, and will include a boat parade and two celebratory events on the Seine. The marathon swimming event is also scheduled to take place in the river, in addition to the swimming leg of the triathlon.

What To Watch For

Pierre Rabadan, Paris’ deputy mayor in charge of the Olympics, told the New York Times if there’s rainfall in Paris for “a week continually before the races,” the Seine’s water quality “probably won’t be excellent.”

Chief Critic

Ana Marcela Cunha, the Brazilian gold medal winner of the women’s marathon 10-kilometer swim at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, told Agence France-Presse there is “a concern” about pollution in the Seine. Olympic officials “need a plan B in case it’s not possible to swim in the Seine,” Cunha said, adding the river is “not made for swimming.” Some Paris residents reportedly organized a “poop protest,” which would have involved people defecating in the river en masse to protest the river’s pollution. The protest was scheduled for before Hidalgo’s swim last month, which included additional security personnel, before it was postponed.

$1.5 billion. That’s how much Paris has spent during a decades-long effort to clean the Seine for public use, which includes projects to upgrade the city’s sewage system and stormwater treatment facilities.

Surprising Fact

World Aquatics—the world’s governing body for swimming— canceled the Open Water Swimming World Cup Paris last year after officials determined the Seine’s water quality “remained below acceptable standards for safeguarding swimmers’ health.” The organization noted it was “clear that further work” is needed to “ensure robust contingency plans are in place” for the Olympics.

Key Background

Public swimming in the Seine has been banned since 1923, after officials determined the water was unsafe, according to the BBC. Paris operates with a “single system” drainage infrastructure that becomes oversaturated during heavy rainfall, causing excess water to be drained into the river. Parisian officials said clean-up efforts, in addition to updated sewage and sanitation systems, will allow the city to open three open-air swimming areas by 2025.

Get to know Rai Benjamin, McLain Ward, 6 other Hudson Valley athletes headed to Olympics

3rd olympic yacht show

Three years ago, multiple Lower Hudson Valley athletes competed in the COVID-delayed Tokyo Olympics.

The same will be true at this year's Paris Olympics.

Headlined by Mount Vernon's Rai Benjamin, a gold and silver medalist in track in Tokyo, and by Brewster's McLain Ward, who has medaled in show jumping in all four Olympics he's competed in, eight athletes with strong ties to Westchester, Putnam and Rockland counties will compete in the upcoming Olympic Games in France.

Two of the eight will represent other countries. Learn more about each athlete here.

Rai Benjamin

United States track and field

The 2015 Mount Vernon High School graduate and multiple-time All-American at UCLA and then the University of Southern California, anchored the American men's 4x400 relay team to gold in Tokyo.

But Benjamin is perhaps even better known for his silver-medal performance in the men's 400 hurdles in Tokyo. In that race, both he and winner Karsten Warholm of Norway broke the world record, which Warholm had recently established. Their race was later called one of the best ever in Olympic history.

Benjamin remains No. 2 all-time in the world in the event and No. 1 all-time in the U.S. In a 400 hurdles race in Monaco last week, he edged Warholm and also defeated 2023 world champion Alison dos Santos of Brazil, the Tokyo bronze medalist. If all three men reach the final, Warholm's world record of 45.94 seconds could be in jeopardy.

First round: Aug. 5

Repechage (second chance) round: Aug. 6

Semifinals: Aug. 7

Championship: Aug. 9

Charlotte Buck

United States rowing

The Nyack native, who started rowing with the Rockland Rowing Association after graduating from Nyack High in 2014 , gained All-American status at Columbia University but was overlooked for inclusion on the U.S. rowing team until COVID hit and her performance on an erg rowing machine, monitored virtually, could not be overlooked.

Invited to training camp, she defied odds by winning a place on the U.S. women's eight boat for the Tokyo Olympics. Her boat made the Olympic final but finished just off the medal stand in fourth place. Now Buck, 29, is looking to add to her medal collection after winning silver with her team at last year's World Championships.

Opening heats: July 29

Repechage: Aug. 1

Championship: Aug. 3

United States women's soccer

Coffey, who grew up in Sleepy Hollow and starred in soccer at The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry and then at Boston College and Penn State, will play midfield on the U.S. women's team.

The 25-year-old, who registered a 42 goals and 54 assists in five collegiate seasons, is a defensive midfielder for the Portland Storm and helped that team win the National Women's Soccer League championship as a rookie in 2022. That year, she was named first team all-NWSL.

Coffey first appeared with the U.S.. national team in 2022.

Sabrina Fang

Canada fencing

A 2023 Rye Country Day School graduate, Fang will represent her native Canada in fencing as a member of the women's foil team.

She gained second-team All-Ivy League honors during her recently-concluded freshman year at Princeton University.

A native of British Columbia, Fang was a member of the Canadian foil team that won gold at the 2022 Pan-American Games. While at RCDS, Fang trained at the Tim Morehouse Fencing Club in Port Chester.

Eric Favors

Ireland track and field

The 2015 North Rockland High graduate starred in both football and track at North Rockland, where he was indoor and outdoor state champion in the shot put as a senior.

Competing on a track scholarship for the University of South Carolina, Favors finished second in the SEC in 2021 in outdoor shot.

American-born, Favors has competed for Ireland since 2017, after successfully applying for dual citizenship made possible by the fact his maternal grandmother was born there. In qualifying for Paris based on his world ranking, Favors, who primarily trains in Pennsylvania, became Ireland's first Olympic shot put thrower in 30 years.

The owner and founder of Barstool Sports lost control of a boat off Massachusetts before being rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Dave Portnoy, 47, said in a TikTok video that the harrowing Monday rescue off Nantucket happened after he unhooked his boat from buoys. Heavy winds then caused him to drift out to sea, and his engine was dead, he said.

Portnoy said another boater saw that he was in distress and radioed the Coast Guard.

Coast Guard rescuers towed the boat back to mooring, Portnoy said. He said he appreciated the work of the “four burly dudes” who rescued him, and that he might be finished with boating for a while.

“Captain Dave lives to tell another tale. Third time as captain, already lost at sea. It’s a dangerous game, the sea’s angry my friends,” Portnoy said via TikTok.

Portnoy, who maintains a robust online presence and has millions of followers, used another social media channel, X, to thank the Coast Guard on Monday. The Coast Guard responded with a message for Miss Peaches, Portnoy’s pit bull.

“Any time, Dave,” the Coast Guard posted, with a pair of smiling emoji. “Tell Miss Peaches we love her.”

Portnoy founded Barstool Sports in 2003 in the Boston area. The sports and pop culture website has more than 16 million followers on Instagram.

Big Green to Paris: Molly Reckford

Reckford '15 is set to compete in her second olympic games.

This story first appeared on DartmouthSports.com

Molly Reckford is returning to the Olympics in the lightweight women's double sculls, and it's with her same partner from the 2020 Tokyo games — Michelle Sechser.   This summer's Olympics will feature lightweight rowing events for the final time, which only adds to Reckford's motivation.   "If you win the Olympics, you are the forever Olympic champion in this boat class," she said. "I'm really trying to push my limits and see what I can do when I fully dedicate myself and have enough time to develop."   Reckford is referring to three additional years of development and experience she currently owns compared to the 2020 Olympics, which took place in the summer of 2021 in Tokyo due to COVID-19.

The start of the 2024 Olympic selection process began last fall at Speed Order in Sarasota, Florida.   "It's an opportunity to show your speed before major selection begins," said Reckford.

The year, the lightweights and open weights all raced each other.   "They said you're all racing each other; the lightweights will weigh in before the race and they'll get a designation," said Reckford. "I came in third place overall, second place for lightweights."   All the racing at that point in the process was in singles. Reckford's Speed Order success, coupled with her second-place finish in the lightweight double sculls at World Cup II in 2023 in Varese, left no doubt she would be invited to Colorado Springs for altitude training camp.   "Camp is at about six and a half thousand feet of altitude," said Reckford. "We spent three weeks there training on land — on the erg on a basketball court."   Next up was Winter Speed Order in Florida, which saw Reckford win the time trial.

"That was a pretty phenomenal race," she said. "I posted the fastest time for all the women in the heats and got third place overall (fastest lightweight woman). I really pushed the pace early in the regatta, so it was a very good testament of the training I had been doing."   The next step in the Olympic qualification process featured invitations to selection camp in Florida.

"It was about a three-week process," said Reckford. "Through that camp, I was selected to the lightweight double. Michelle, my partner from Tokyo, and I posted the fastest time together and we were selected to be the Olympic boat."   Since the selection in March, Reckford and Secher have been working hard. They have been in Princeton, New Jersey with the other Olympic rowers at the USRowing Training Center.   On July 5, all the U.S. Olympics rowers are heading to Italy.   "We're headed north of Milan and we'll have around a three-week training camp there before Paris," said Reckford. "We'll get adjusted to the time and the heat. It also separates us from distractions."   What does an average day of training look like? Reckford shared one day's schedule from her time at Princeton.   The athletes were being housed in a hotel and slept with a tent over their beds, which sucks out the oxygen to mimic a high-altitude environment.   "I normally wake up around 5:45, I'm at practice around 6:45 and we meet our coaches at 7:15," she said. "Morning practice takes about two hours."   Morning practice normally features around 22 kilometers of training. After practice on her example day, Reckford had some work meetings (she works for Broadridge Financial Solutions) then an hour-long weightlifting session. Right after lunch, she also completed a 90-minute training session on the erg.

Molly Reckford - Dartmouth - US National - Team Photo by row2k.com/USRowing

"This day featured about five hours of training," said Reckford. "I later ran to the grocery store, got some food and the women from the lightweight double, the open weight double, the single and the quad all had dinner together. We spent about an hour just hanging out, chatting and enjoying each other's company, then I was in bed around 7:30.   "Because we're in a high-volume time in our training zone, it can be brutally tough, so we need to maximize sleep."   Moving forward into the weeks leading into the Olympic Games, which begin on July 26, Reckford feels much more prepared her second time around.   "Everything was a rush for Tokyo, and I didn't have a lot of confidence," she said.

As Reckford learned, once rowers are on the water, it's like any other race. The biggest adjustment comes with handling everything surrounding the event.   "We (rowers) often don't get a lot of media attention; we're often left on our own and a lot of us like it that way," said Reckford. "In Tokyo, every time you left a race or practice, you had to walk through reporters and talk to them. It was very hard at times.   "I made a mistake in one of our races and was upset, but had to get off the water and talk to all these reporters about how I made a mistake," Reckford continued. "Being more emotionally and mentally prepared for all the non-sport things that come up is going to be really valuable."   One thing Reckford didn't realize going into Tokyo was how available resources would be.   "The recovery rooms, the dining halls and the accessibility to sports medicine, anything you could dream of that you might need was there and available to you," she said. "Part of the Olympic experience is experiencing what it feels like to be a headliner."   As Reckford said, there is nothing else in the world quite like the Olympic Village.   "Whatever you dreamed of, make it five percent better and that's the Olympic Village," she said. "There's just so much going on, there's so many people and everybody's dressed proudly representing their countries. There are all these different styles and different athletes. It's really hard to imagine how great it is until you've experienced it."

Reckford can't wait to experience it again in Paris. Hopes are high for Reckford and her doubles partner Sechser.   Reckford is most focused on the process.   "Finishing that final race knowing there's nothing else I could have given, and feeling confident that I did everything I could, that's what success will look like for me," she said. "Showing up and being able to do your best on the day is really all you can ask for.   "I want to finish that race and know that I couldn't have taken one more stroke."

Inside the design of intricate, crystal-patterned U.S. Olympic gymnastics team leotards

U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics team members show off custom leotards they can wear during the Paris Olympics.

The day after hearing their names called as members of the 2024 U.S. gymnastics team in front of a sold-out crowd in Minneapolis’ Target Center, Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera assembled on an NBC stage in front of an exclusive audience. Each gymnast received a red box labeled with a gold plate that read “made exclusively for” with their name. On three, each gymnast opened their box.

A sparkling, star-spangled leotard glittered inside.

“They were in awe,” said Jeanne Diaz, the design mastermind behind the U.S. Olympic leotards.

While trying to recapture team gold in Paris, the Americans will wear an eight-piece leotard collection that aims to take the Olympic leotard to new heights of both fashion and function. Don’t let the crystals — up to 10,000 on one — be a distraction. These bedazzled bodysuits are just as tough as the athletes who wear them.

“We are charged to create this beautiful intersection of fashion and sport and the Team USA leotard represents that at its pinnacle,” GK Elite CEO Matt Cowan said. “But ultimately they’re there to perform. They’re there to win gold medals.”

Diaz’s Olympic process starts two years before the Games. The GK Elite gymnastics design director started planning in August 2022, compiling a mood board for a theme that could unify the collection. The Olympic host city provided a perfect muse.

Paris — one of the fashion capitals of the world and the city of light — is reflected in a pearl-studded white leotard inspired by couture runway gowns, the delicate art nouveau embellishments that loop and curve across an ombre bodice, and an Eiffel Tower-inspired crystal pattern that looks like a firework bursting in the sky.

But the leotard slated for the team final is Diaz’s favorite.

One sleeve is decorated with crystal stars on a blue background as red and silver crystals cut diagonally across a white body. The design evokes an athlete wrapped in an American flag.

L.A. Olympic organizers about to face their toughest task: Delivering on promises

The Los Angeles 2028 Olympic organizing committee is entering the final and toughest stage of its long life — turning the Games into a reality.

July 8, 2024

“We want to make sure that when spectators, when viewers at home are watching the Games, they know exactly who Team USA is without seeing the USA on the hip of their leotards,” Diaz said.

The same way athletes continuously upgrade skills and push the boundaries of the sport, GK Elite, which manufactured the U.S. Olympic leotards under deals with Adidas and Under Armour before finally putting its logo on the Olympic garment for the first time in Tokyo, always feels pressure to one-up itself. The Paris Olympics collection supercharged the classic solid red U.S. leotard with an innovative stretch satin more commonly used in high fashion designs. It’s the first time GK Elite has brought the fabric’s unique shine to a leotard, Diaz said.

Each athlete will receive eight competition leotards that have a combined 47,102 crystals. Thousands of the jewels are hand-glued by workers in the company’s Reading, Pa., factory. The white leotard adds 970 pearls, a new twist on the usual leotard embellishment. Each garment’s retail price would be pushing $5,000, Cowan said.

The number of crystals on each leotard seems to increase exponentially with each Olympic cycle, but Diaz believes they may truly be approaching the limit. While gymnasts never turn down more bling, Diaz never forgets the mission of function. Designers wouldn’t put crystals near the leg line or under the arms where they could be uncomfortable during competition.

A close look at the gems on the U.S. gymnastic team Paris Olympics leotards.

“I want them to feel extremely confident, beautiful, powerful,” Diaz said. “I don’t want them to have to worry about their leotard. I want them to feel so confident in what they’re wearing, not only the aesthetics of what they’re wearing, but also the function of what they’re wearing, that they can really focus on their performance.”

All fabrics used by GK Elite must pass a rigorous four-way stretch test, Diaz said, to ensure they can keep up as gymnasts contort their bodies into a tornado of flips and twists. Making sure the leg line stays in place during competition is also necessary because gymnasts can get marked for deductions for pulling on their leotards.

Advancements in fabric technology allowed the leotard to graduate from an ill-fitting one-piece to today’s highly contoured garments. Simple leotard designs started getting bolder in the 1980s after Mary Lou Retton became the first American woman to win Olympic all-around gold in a white leotard with red stripes running down one sleeve and white stars on a blue background cutting diagonally across her torso. The 1996 Magnificent Seven’s blue sleeve with stars with red and white stripes on the other arm remains an iconic design that inspired GK’s ideas for Rio, Tokyo and Paris.

U.S. gymnastics trials: Simone Biles wins all-around, makes Olympics for third time

Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, Suni Lee, Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera will form the 2024 U.S. Olympic women’s gymnastics team competing at the Paris Games.

June 30, 2024

Women’s gymnastics reigns as one of the most popular and commercially influential Olympic sports. The leotard helps lift star gymnasts into the mainstream. Gold medalists Biles and Lee walked at the Met Gala months after the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Former UCLA gymnast Nia Dennis, who went viral earlier that year for her Black excellence floor routine , turned her star power into the opening position at the Met. Her blue unitard designed by Stella McCartney for Adidas wasn’t just a fashion statement. It held up during Dennis’ acrobatic tumbling performance on the Met steps.

“It goes back to the ‘look good, feel good’ mentality,” Dennis said. “When that leotard comes on, it’s showtime.”

UCLA's Nia Dennis competes on the floor.

Gymnasts can also use their uniforms to send a message. UCLA, one of the nation’s most popular college gymnastics programs, debuted a black and gold “Black excellence” leotard in 2021. The German women’s Olympic team wore full-length unitards at the European championships in 2021 and during the Tokyo Olympics to push back against the sexualization of girls and women in the sport.

While U.S. gymnasts have not expressed an interest in shifting to full-length bodysuits for competition, GK Elite would be ready to provide a design.

“Ultimately we have to provide whatever the athlete asks for,” Cowan said. “The athletes are first and foremost.”

The designs for the Paris Olympics were the first to incorporate feedback from a survey sent out to all national team members. The questionnaire asked athletes about preferences for necklines, fabrics and colors. Through working with many top athletes — including Olympic team members Biles, Lee, Chiles and Carey, who have leotard partnerships with GK — Diaz already has a sense of what gymnasts want, but the survey results confirmed her ideas.

Athletes wanted all patriotic colors and were open to all sorts of necklines: scoop, high or V. All are represented in the eight-piece collection, and gymnasts can choose which ones they want to wear for individual event competition. The athletes were open to a variety of fabrics, including velvet, a more “throwback” fabric, said Erica Schnebel, GK Elite’s director of marketing. The design team took the feedback and helped modernize the vintage fabric by using it for details in a black leotard across the collar and around the waist.

The final designs were all approved by USA Gymnastics last year before production, which turns Diaz’s original drawings into the one-of-a-kind creations on the floor. Under the arena lights, the thousands of crystals catch the light like a turning disco ball.

The only things that sparkle brighter could be the medals on the podium.

EURO 2024 in brief

La Roja were in excellent form in Germany, winning all seven games while scoring 15 goals and conceding only four in the process. Winger Lamine Yamal made history by becoming the youngest player ever to appear at a EURO against Croatia as Spain made light work of a tough group that also included holders Italy.

Yamal laid on an assist as Spain showed their mettle to overcome hosts Germany in extra time in the quarter-finals, and an even more prodigious goalscoring feat ensued in the semi-final with his match-turning equaliser. In Berlin, Spain overcame England to become the first side to win four EURO titles.

Coach: Luis de la Fuente

A likeable Basque with a winning habit. He led Spanish national teams to EURO glory at age-group levels – Under-19s in 2015 and U21s in 2019 – and his senior team beat Italy and Croatia in winning the UEFA Nations League last summer.

De la Fuente, who won the Spanish Liga as a full-back with Athletic Club, has generated a stand-out atmosphere, mentality and playing style since arriving in Germany; basically, his squad loved playing for him.

Did you know?

Spain are the only national team to have won three continental and world titles in a row: EURO 2008, the 2010 World Cup and EURO 2012. They are now the only national team to win EURO four times.
