Erica Rose on Her Second 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' Experience and Her Husband's Omelette Drama (EXCLUSIVE)

Shannon Raphael - Author

Published March 14 2022, 12:39 p.m. ET

The third season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht is in full swing, and the drama with the guests is just as compelling as what's going on with the crew.

After their first charter became the most-talked-about one of the spinoff's second season, reality star Erica Rose and her mom, Cindi Rose, returned to Parsifal III in the hopes that they would have a more satisfactory experience by getting a "higher level of service."

While Captain Glenn Shephard and First Mate Gary King were mostly amused at the prospect of Erica and Cindi returning, Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher quickly made her disappointment known when she referred to the charter group as "disrespectful, exhausting, emotionally draining," and "unpredictable."

Though Cindi and Erica did return, the rest of their group was new to Parsifal III . The Bachelor alum's husband, Charles "Chuck" Sanders, two friends, and another couple made their Below Deck Sailing Yacht debut on the March 7 episode.

With Erica and Cindi's new group of guests and a mostly new crew, there was hope that things would go more smoothly than they did in Season 2. However, it didn't take long for the charter to go off the rails (or sails, so to speak).

Since the first part of their charter is getting a lot of attention online, Erica spoke with Distractify to clear up a few misconceptions about what happened, and to discuss why her second time on the show wasn't a "pleasant experience." Plus, she also shared why she was surprised by Daisy's strong reaction to her return.

Erica Rose on returning to 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' with her husband, Charles Sanders, and the omelette drama.

Though her first charter wasn't fully up to her standards, Erica said that she wanted to return to the show in Season 3 because her daughters were a bit older, she was feeling more confident with herself, and she thought that there would be less drama if she brought her husband along, instead of doing another girls' trip. She was hopeful that it would be a more "positive experience" the second time around — but things didn't exactly go to plan.

"I really did not come in with a dramatic intention," Erica said to Distractify , before adding that most of the drama came from her husband and her mom.

"People are kind of blaming me for it. To me, that's a little unfair, because you can only control your own actions. Of course, I can never control my mom, and I can't control my husband either," she added. "And this was his first time on reality TV."

Because she had raved to her husband about Chef Natasha de Bourg's food after her first stint on Parsifal III (and Erica and Charles had actually eaten the chef's food several times after the show), Erica realized that they would be "picky" about new Chef Marcos Spaziani's meals, since he has a completely different cooking style.

At the end of the March 7 episode, ahead of their beach brunch, Charles ordered an omelette from the chef. He sent back the first one because it had tomatoes, and was ultimately unsatisfied with the chef's second egg offering. Charles went on to say that he was "disgusted" by the breakfast, and that he had eaten "better food at the ballpark."

Charles "Chuck" Sanders and Erica Rose Sanders

"There was no need for Chuck to be that dramatic about eggs. I've seen him eat a lot grosser things before... It was a bit much," Erica said about her husband's strong reaction at the end of the episode. "I don't think it's funny, I don't think it captures who he is. I don't think he would do that if it wasn't a television show."

Erica said that her husband, who is also her law partner at Rose Sanders PLLC, played it up for the cameras. Charles, who majored in theatre in college, took the experience as a pseudo-acting role (though Erica noted that nothing was scripted, she did say that guests are encouraged to vocalize their complaints).

"It was his moment in the sun," Erica said about Charles' reality TV debut. "I was just in a good place and I wanted to be peaceful compared to last time, but he's his own person. That's just what he felt like doing. And he's excited by it."

Though Erica and Charles have received many negative comments on social media about their Below Deck Sailing Yacht appearance, the latter spouse is choosing to solely look at the positive — which is that their law firm is getting a lot of searches online.

Erica herself gets why viewers are saying certain things about her group, but she thinks that they should keep in mind that the yachties themselves are often looking to engage in the drama, too.

"People also have to remember that these are not just people who work on yachts... These people are also reality stars. They're feeding off of the drama too," Erica said. "The producers don't just take yacht employees, like they look for a cast that is going to play into stuff, make good ratings, etc."

The lawyer touched on Daisy's "animosity," and whether she would do another charter on Parsifal III.

Erica's initial Below Deck Sailing Yacht experience may have fallen short, but she thought that she'd left the vessel on positive terms with Daisy the first time around. The two even interacted with one another on social media a few times after filming, so Erica was surprised when she heard what Daisy had to say about her and her husband on the show, and in her confessionals.

"We did keep in touch throughout, and I have no idea where the animosity came from," Erica shared.

Daisy called Charles "uncultured, unmannered, [and] untraveled" in her interview chair, and she had a strong message for him in the closing seconds of the March 7 episode.

"Chuck, go f--k yourself," Daisy said about the lawyer.

The You're Cut Off star knew that Daisy had said things about her first charter being high-maintenance, but she thought that it was because of her group, not her.

"I just really didn't anticipate negativity because Daisy wasn't personally negative at me the first time. She said our group of friends was a lot to handle, and I totally understand that," Erica added. "But I didn't expect the personal attacks."

Though Erica's Season 3 charter is continuing to be a hot topic of conversation, her second appearance on the show will likely be her last.

"Definitely not on the sailing yacht, no..." Erica said about whether she would return to Below Deck Sailing Yacht in the future. "It wasn't a very pleasant experience. I just 100 percent wouldn't do that one again."

New episodes of Below Deck Sailing Yacht air on Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on Bravo. You can also stream the series on Peacock.

Below Deck’s Daisy Reveals Scathing Messages From Erica Rose’s Mom, Accuses Her of “Lies” and “Slander,” Plus What Wasn’t Shown

Below Deck’s Daisy Reveals Scathing Messages From Erica Rose’s Mom, Accuses Her of “Lies” and “Slander,” Plus What Wasn't Shown

Below Deck Sailing Yacht’s Daisy Kelliher is not holding back on the ongoing feud between herself and returning charter guests  Erica Rose Sanders , Charles Sanders , and Erica’s mother Cindi Rose .

As fans will remember, Daisy was less-than-thrilled that Erica was returning for a second charter this season, and the two have been in a heated exchange (mostly, on Erica and company’s part).

Daisy did take the time to clarify on Twitter what exactly she was feeling toward the returning guests in real-time during the latest episode.

Daisy reacts to Erica's return

Daisy then went on to defend castmates Gabriela Barragan and Ashley Marti for also having to deal with the difficult couple.

Daisy felt back for Gabriela and Ashley.

Erica’s husband Charles has gone on record saying that the show was scripted and that he was “acting” on his most recent appearance of the show because that’s what producers wanted — a claim that the rest of the crew has adamantly denied.

Now, on a new episode o f The Pita Party Instagram series that Daisy co-hosts with fellow Below Deck stars Dani Soares and Alli Dore , Daisy is sharing the scathing messages Cindi had for the Below Deck Sailing Yacht crew after their first visit. She certainly did not hold back revealing why she was not in the mood to have them back aboard.

Daisy pulled out her tablet and read the messages she received from Cindi.

“All the crew worked hard, except for Captain Glenn and Daisy, who I think were there to create fake rocking ships and try to pretend he [and] she [were] yacht royalty were working. Daisy ordered people around, but I never saw her do any work,” Daisy began.

Daisy then revealed the message pivoted toward Captain Glenn’s treatment of the group and his not wanting to attend a “women’s empowerment” dinner.

“What would we talk about? That you were an older, confirmed bachelor who likes to be alone? It was rude of you to refuse our good manners. You are 50 something and should know manners by now. To ask people to pay over $25,000 per person and tell them it’s a luxury trip and show us activities and complain about us behind our backs is so immature and then expect tips that we generously did. At least we have manners,” Daisy shared in Cindi’s words.

Daisy made sure to let Below Deck fans know that it’s not particularly Erica, Charles, or Cindi’s frustrating behavior onboard the yacht itself that made her “blood boil,” but rather, it’s the “slander” and “lies” that they spread through social media.

“So when I saw this [Cindi’s message], it got my f***ing blood boiling,” Because it’s lies, it’s slander. It’s insane. And I didn’t retaliate. I didn’t say anything. I didn’t do anything,” she revealed.

“They are everything that I hate about social media. I hate liars. I hate fabricators. I hate people who use social media as a platform to spread gossip. And they’re everything of what I think represents is awful in the world and awful about social media,” the chief stew said.

'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' Is Returning for Season 5 After Gary's Scandal

Below Deck Sailing Yacht is coming back for season 5 after Gary King's sexual misconduct scandal.

Bravo announced on Monday, September 16, that the next season reunites Captain Glenn Shephard , chief stew Daisy Kelliher and Gary as they spend their charter season in Ibiza. The rest of the cast includes chef Cloyce Martin , chef engineer Davide Morosi , stews Diana Cruz , Danni Warren and deckhands Keith Allen and Emma Crouch .

The upcoming installment comes more than one year after Below Deck Sailing Yacht wrapped up its fourth season on Bravo in July 2023.

Gary's future as a cast member has been up in the air, however, since a production assistant from the show accused him of making unwanted advances while filming season 4.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht's Biggest Drama Through the Years

In a Rolling Stone exposé, which was published in October 2023, Samantha Suarez and other former employees, who asked to remain anonymous, accused Bravo of allegedly helping cover up Gary's inappropriate behavior.

"It was insane. There were multiple incidents of sexual harassment in front of multiple producers after this person had been given verbal warnings multiple times," one of the accusers alleged. "I had to promote and make this guy who just assaulted someone look awesome. That was my job, to make this person look cool, capable and exciting."

Samantha recalled being asked to look after Gary when he allegedly got drunk. Once filming wrapped, Samantha remained with Gary in his hotel room before he tried to stop her from leaving by pressing himself against her. Samantha alleged that Gary refused to let her leave until she started to fight back.

According to Samantha, she alerted producers about the incident , who told Gary to sleep on the boat on days when the crew wasn't filming as a way to keep him out of the hotel.

Former 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' Stars: Where Are They Now?

Bravo addressed the allegations in a statement to Rolling Stone , saying, "Bravo is committed to maintaining a safe and respectful workplace for cast and crew on our reality shows. We require our third-party production companies to have appropriate workplace policies and trainings in place and a clear process on how to report concerns. The concerns Ms. Suarez raised in July 2022 were investigated at that time and action was taken based on the findings."

Gary has maintained his innocence since news broke about the claim. "I know [that I did nothing wrong], and I know the truth but it still hurts when people will tell lies to bring you down," he replied to a fan via Instagram one month later.

In the aftermath, Gary didn't appear at BravoCon in November 2023 despite initially being announced as a guest. He has since stated that he wasn't ruling out a Below Deck Sailing Yacht return.

A Guide to 'Below Deck' and Its Many Spinoffs

Gary replied to several Instagram users in December 2023 who reminded him there's a "life after" Below Deck .

"I hope so, will have to see but will definitely be trying to stay on peoples tv screens ," Gary wrote back. In a separate comment, Gary maintained that he would return to reality TV, adding, "I will do and hopefully be back on your screens, everyday I'm trying to better myself so hopefully if they ask me back you'll see this."

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Is Returning for Season 5 After Gary King Scandal

Exclusive: Below Deck Sailing Yacht charter guest Erica Rose sets the record straight on Daisy Kelliher drama

Erica Rose opens up to Monsters & Critics about things Daisy has said on Below Deck Sailing Yacht.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht charter guest Erica Rose has set the record straight on the Daisy Kelliher drama unfolding off-screen.

Erica returned to Below Deck Sailing Yacht for her second stint this week. She was joined by her husband Charles Sanders, mom Cindi Rose, and friends aboard Parsifal III.

Monsters & Critics had the opportunity to speak to Erica after her first episode aired, where she opened up about the things Daisy was saying about her.

Erica Rose sets the record straight on Daisy Kelliher drama

Erica revealed she and Daisy kept in touch after her Season 2 appearance on Below Deck Sailing Yacht through social media. They weren’t best friends, but Erica did recall Daisy reaching out after Erica lost some weight to compliment her.

“I’m not saying we were close friends, but one of those like casual, keeping in touch things,” Erica shared.

Even when Erica and her group were filming, Erica didn’t suspect that Daisy didn’t like her. Although she did feel like Daisy’s vibe was different the second time around, Erica was in the dark about Daisy’s true feelings until recently.

Erica first learned something was wrong when Daisy blocked her on Instagram.

“I thought that was really weird. Like, I wonder what’s going on?” she expressed. “That was before the episode even aired. It was like right before the season premiered. Once the season premiered, they kept plugging our episode, like our charter, you know, at the end of every episode. And then I saw an interview come out because, you know, I get Google search engine alerts, especially with our law firm. The first article came out that it was like she was dreading our charter, and they started slowly releasing that.”

The reality TV personality admitted that Daisy did keep in touch with other guests despite what Daisy said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. Erica spilled she knows the chief stew kept touch with some of the other ladies from her charter.

“So, she was blatantly lying to say she didn’t keep in touch with people,” she stated.

Erica went on to admit Daisy didn’t block her on Twitter, alluding to her still wanting to be in touch. However, Erica feels Daisy blocking her on Instagram was strategic to prevent Erica from “coming with receipts” that they had exchanged messages previously.

As for why Daisy’s attitude changed toward Erica, The Bachelor alum has no idea, but it was a shocker.

“I don’t know why her attitude changed with me, truly, but it was definitely surprising to me. I don’t think I would have come back if she had expressed it because going into it, I knew that Daisy and Gary and Colin and Captain Glenn were the only ones returning,” Erica shared.

The blonde beauty learned about the returning crew members from chef Natasha De Bourg, with whom Erica has remained friendly since Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2.

Erica would not have returned for Season 3 had she known Daisy’s true feelings about her.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Erica Rose ? Sanders (@ericatherose)

How were things between Erica and Daisy during Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3 filming?

As mentioned above, Erica had no idea the animosity Daisy had towards her until the chief stew started doing interviews and tweeted about Erica during the most recent episode.

Erica opened up about filming, sharing the vibe she got from Daisy.

“She wasn’t super friendly, but at the same time, she is a professional at her job. So she wasn’t like she wasn’t going to walk around being rude,” Erica said.

It’s a reality show, and things are edited out. One thing Erica revealed was edited out was that when Daisy asked if Erica wanted someone to unpack, Erica replied, “Only if it’s not going to be a problem.” However, the scene came across as Erica requesting someone to unpack for her.

To set the record straight, Erica does pack her things when she goes on a family vacation. She doesn’t expect it to be done for her.

Erica admitted that Daisy was very good at her job, checking in on them and even taking pictures with the group.

“She’s very good at pretending to be nice to other people, and then doing things behind people’s back. And so, I guess I would have liked it more, and she probably couldn’t because of her job but if she would have shown me any indication that she was unhappy or, you know, just out of respect, instead of doing it all behind my back,” Erica expressed about Daisy’s feelings toward her.

The simple fact is, Erica wished Daisy would have kept it real. Erica referenced Allie Dore from Season 2, whom Erica admitted she could read and declared the stew never hid her feelings.

“I respect it more when someone is transparent,” she explained.

Erica Rose from Below Deck Sailing Yacht has set the record straight on the drama chief stew Daisy Kelliher.

The charter guest isn’t sure if Daisy’s actions were encouraged or if Daisy truly feels that way about her. What Erica does wish is that the chief stew would have been honest with her.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Mondays at 8/7c on Bravo.

guest

Might want to watch Daisy’s Instagram show to get the real story. I don’t believe a word that comes out of Erica’s mouth. She’s known to be difficult to deal with and two faced since her days on The Bachelor. Just giving her version of things doesn’t make the article very believable.

James

You mean she wanted to be told how awful her behavior and especially her dorky husband’s were perceived. He seemed like an addict.

RB

Why would Daisy be happy to see such slobs return to the yacht? Both you and your husband are disrespectful and rude.

Anastasia Beaverhousin

It’s B.S. she’s deflecting because she and her husband look like the vial nouveau riche scum bags they are money doesn’t buy class but it sure as hell makes feel like you can show your ass!!!!!

‘Below Deck Med’s Chef Johnathan Shillingford Thinks Aesha Scott Handled Those Rude Charter Guests “Very Well”

‘below deck’s 8 worst guests of all-time: from jill zarin to delores the midnight swimmer, ‘below deck mediterranean’ exclusive clip: aesha scott stands up for herself against a rude charter guest.

At long last, Below Deck Sailing Yacht returns for its fifth season on October 7. Captain Glenn Shephard , chief stew Daisy Kelliher , and first mate Gary King are leading the Parsifal III into unchartered waters this season: Ibiza. While fans will miss OG cast member Colin MacRae—whose romance with Kelliher ended very, very badly—there is a new crew of yachties to obsess over this season. Chief engineer Davide Morosi, chef Cloyce Martin, deckhands Keith Allen and Emma Crouch, and stews Diana Cruz and Danni Warren will no doubt be stirring up trouble as they work hard during charters and party hard on their nights off.

The trailer begins on a sad note. Now single, Kelliher returns to the Parsifal III. “Going into this season, I got rid of some dead weight,” Kellier says via voiceover as footage of MacRae and Kelliher canoodling flashes on the screen. “The breakup did a number on me last year, but now, I’m coming back more focused, full of energy.” As she sits triumphantly in her confessional seat, Kelliher says firmly to camera: “I’m fucking good at my job, and I’m taking back the reins.” On cue, the very next scene is Kelliher yelling at King while he lies in his bunk. “I’m not fucking carrying this season on my own, you fucking prick!” The more things change, the more they stay the same.

The trailer then continues to show off its new setting: Ibiza. “Ibiza is known as being the party capital of the world,” says Captain Glenn via voiceover. As guests are shown enjoying themselves, the yacht heels, causing random objects to shatter. Later, the crew gathers for their first meeting. “This is the last time we’ll all be friends so enjoy it,” Kelliher tells the team. “We”ll either fuck each other or fight each other.” “Or both,” replies Captain Glenn cheekily.

A montage of chaos ensues as Kelliher spills a drink, guests boink their heads, and Martin sets off a fire alarm while trying to achieve a fancy, flaming presentation. Morosi is even shown fully nude trying drunkenly to climb into the bed above Captain Glenn’s in their shared cabin. “You all right?” asks Captain Glenn warily. “Nearly,” says Morosi shakily.

While several hookups between the crew are shown—including Kelliher and Martin—and people are shown doing their jobs poorly, the most dramatic part of the trailer involves Captain Glenn’s reading the crew the riot act after giving them permission to party with some guests during a charter. “I set some ground rules, two drinks maximum,” says Captain Glenn as he scolds the crew. “You knew the rules, you broke the fucking rules, and now you’re here getting upset.” Stunned, the group can only look on.

As the trailer ends on a dramatic scene when another yacht is about to crash into the Parsifal III. Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans are left to wonder: could this be the most dramatic season yet? Tune in to Bravo on Monday, October 7 at 9/8c to find out!

Captain Glenn Shephard

Capt. Glenn and his expert crew set sail on Parsifal III to the luxury party capital of the world, Ibiza. Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher

First Mate Gary King

On deck, Gary attempts to keep his team motivated as one crew member struggles to learn the ropes.

Below Deck: Signs Fraser Olender Is A Producer Plant

Selling sunset: alanna gold's pioneertown scam ruined her reputation (will she return for another season), selling sunset: alanna's the biggest narcissist of season 8 (her pioneertown scam was just weird).

Below Deck Sailing Yacht  season 3 recently had primary charter guest Erica Rose back and she got slammed for being the worst charter guest in Below Deck history. Fans may remember Erica from Sailing Yacht  season 2 when she came with her mother, Cindi Rose, and a group of girlfriends. What was supposed to be a trip about uplifting women quickly turned into a catty war. The guests started fighting with one another, making for a very tense charter. To top it off, the high-maintenance women gave the BDSY stews additional work by making them unpack all their clothes and give them massages.

Much to the horror of the BDSY season 3 crew, Captain Glenn Shephard informed them that Erica was returning as a primary charter guest. This time, however, instead of making it an all-girls trip on Below Deck Sailing Yacht , Erica brought her husband Charles Sanders and her mom Cindi along with a few other couples. Before the charter even started, the crew was told that Cindi was going to be late because she had gotten kicked off the plane. Erica informed chief stew Daisy Kelliher that it was because Cindi had snuck into the first-class cabin and stole Charles’ food.

After Cindi finally made it onto Parsifal III, Daisy laid out the dinner menu for the guests. Upon hearing that they were having watermelon gazpacho, Chuck immediately nixed it, calling it “disgusting” and a “bunch of crap.”  As a result,  Chef Marcos Spaziani came up with  a much simpler menu consisting of steak and roasted vegetables. Cindi complained that the dinner was a “man’s meal,” while Chuck said it was the best steak he ever had. The next morning, even though the guests had planned a beach brunch and didn’t request breakfast, Chuck asked for an omelette. The first one wasn’t to his liking, so Chef Marcos made him another one. It still wasn’t good enough for Chuck, so he stomped around the dining room calling Chef Marcos' food “putrid” and “disgusting.”

As the crew tried to get the guests off the boat to their beach picnic, they noticed a huge brown stain on the white sofa. All the guests denied doing it, but it turned out that Cindi had sat on it with spray tanner all over her body.  Captain Glenn tried to help the stews  get it out, but nothing seemed to work. On the beach, Chuck was bragging about being rude and demanding to servers. Fed up with Chuck’s obnoxious behavior, charter guests Rhett and Janelle Flatt called him out. Rhett overheard Chuck calling Janelle a “b****” and threatened to knock him out. Chuck denied saying it but Rhett and Janelle wanted nothing to do with Chuck for the rest of the charter.

The BDSY crew was happy when the charter finally ended. Alas, upon finding out how much Erica and Chuck left for a tip, their jaws dropped. Charles, who had boasted that he was a very good tipper, only left the entire crew with $6,500 in tips.  BDSY fans slammed Erica and Charles for giving the lowest tip in Below Deck history. Fans also noted how entitled Charles was and how poorly he treated the staff. Erica and Cindi retaliated by publicly speaking out against Daisy. The chief stew called Erica "exhausting" and "emotionally draining," and she hopes that Erica Rose and Charles Sanders never return on Below Deck Sailing Yacht ever again.

Below Deck Med’s soul-sucking boat drifts toward its finale

Two people talk; one holds duct tape and shiny fabric and has a horrified look on her face

comment icon Join the discussion

It’s the last charter on Below Deck Mediterranean season 9: yes, we’re on the penultimate episode, also known as the episode where absolutely nothing happens because the editors are saving everything good for next week’s finale.

With Below Deck Med ending, Bravo just announced the next in the franchise: Below Deck Sailing Yacht will return. Bravo’s press release mentions the return of Captain Glenn, Daisy, and Gary (ugh), though the preview that ran during the commercials excluded Gary entirely. Is that because of what reportedly happened during season four ?

Alas, Gary is in this extended trailer . I just don’t know if I can take a season of that fucking guy, so I hope it minimizes him and/or he falls overboard and has to swim to shore, because the rest looks fun, from a naked person falling on Glenn to Drag Race alum Detox on board as a guest. That starts Oct. 7.

Today, we’re starting the last charter, with guest Stacey Jennings his husband Brad Driver, who you may remember from Below Deck Down Under . I barely did; I barely will. Is it too much to ask for some drunk guests to throw a chair in the water or something?

First, though, Gael recovers from her breakdown about Nathan planning to have Joe visit him. “I’m okay. I just had a moment of weakness,” Gael said, trying to smile so hard I thought her head might actually pop.

“Go and have cuddles,” Aesha said, putting Gael in Nathan’s bed. Nathan asked her what’s wrong and she said “nothing.” Ah, communication. This relationship is going to last, what, one or two days beyond this season?

Later, Gael told Nathan, “I still don’t really know you,” and he said “shut up.”

Nathan said, “I love you more and more,” and Gael said, “Okay, just show it.” Then Joe came in and Nathan crawled down in his bunk and showed Gael how much he loves her.

Meanwhile, Joe is still salivating over Carrie, but says, “I don’t even want to go there.” Nathan told us that is “utter bullshit” and said “that is what he does.” Yep, your bro is a fuckboy.

In real love news, Captain Sandy’s girlfriend is on the way to visit and either get engaged or reject Captain Sandy on national TV. Aesha is producing this event, and shares that they all live in Colorado together, hang out, and compare poop, or at least I assume they would if Aesha had her way.

A person talks to another person on a mobile phone

For this Sandy wants just a simple, casual moment, like a flower-lined dock leading to a table where there’s a violinist and “peach tea in a champagne glass,” and all of that has to be flawless. “I just want it to be perfect,” she says, “absolutely perfect.”

Well, okay then, as long as you don’t set impossibly high standards for one five-minute period in your life that will be orchestrated in part by your crew of incompetent dummies. (A preview for next week shows Joe getting a line wrapped up in the tender’s propeller, so that’s exciting.)

Sandy is worried about her mortal enemy, wind. “I hope the weather’s going to be great,” she says.

In the funniest moment, Sandy asks Aesha if she thinks Leah will know what’s happening. Aesha’s like, um, yeah, once she sees the fact that you’ve stage managed the dock so much it looks like a Bachelorette finale.

She’ll probably also know because Sandy is basically spoiling it: “I have a special treat for you tomorrow,” Sandy says, and her girlfriend said, “You and your surprises.” I expected Sandy to be like, You’ll never guess what it is! Definitely not a proposal!! What is your ring size?

The episode’s major drama, if you can call it that, involves Ellie, who’s still quite insecure about Carrie’s presence on the boat. She’s constantly seeking reassurance from Aesha (DO WE DROP CARRIE OFF AT DOCK AND LEAVE HER NOW?) and micromanaging the other stews (PUT BALLOON THERE YOU STUPID COW!).

During their stew meeting, there’s a fleeting moment when Aesha praises Bri for the laundry, which has miraculously not been delivered to the crew of Below Deck Sailing Yacht , and then praised Ellie’s table decorations, and says, “you’re nailing it.”

But then Aesha shares that Carrie is much faster at all the tasks, and Ellie’s face sinks and I think she may have tried to dig her eyes out with her fingers:

A person puts their finger in their eye

Aesha’s so over Ellie that she’s being overtly hostile, which for Aesha equals sarcasm. Ellie is in her cabin when provisions arrive, and when she finally arrives on Deck, Aesha says, “Oh, thanks for coming up right at the end. We finished.”

Ellie tries to help Bri in cabins, and Aesha is like, “No. Just do what I’ve said.” Then she notices Ellie hasn’t wiped down the walls, and calls for Ellie because “there’s finger marks everywhere,” probably from Joe trying to hit on the wood paneling.

But Ellie is dancing in the crew mess and having fun—which, honestly, it’s nice to see Ellie not trying to destroy everyone with laser eyes, but also Aesha is pissed that Ellie’s ignoring her.

Carrie doesn’t mind Ellie bossing her around, noting that it’s “nice to not have a lot of responsibility” after her last job, when “I went from chief stew to caregiver” when the boat’s owner’s wife died. Yikes.

The guests arrive and Iain, awake from a nap, does the shocker and yells “it’s the last charter,” and I was embarrassed for him and everyone in that interview room.

Iain does manage to get the boat out of the dock without ramming it into another boat, prompting one of the gaggle of gays to say “they pulled out clean.” That’s about the level of entertainment these guests bring: gay sex jokes.

Down in the galley, Jono is thrilled for “a group of guests that are all queer” because “I haven’t met many gay or Black people in the industry,” and he makes a valid point about diversity in yachting that I ignored because I was too busy trying to make a joke out of “I haven’t met many…” …other chefs? YouTube recipes that weren’t from someone’s grandma? charter guests who I haven’t killed?

Jono wants to “make sure they’re extra happy,” and thus plans on, and I quote, “flavor flavor okurrr.”

For an example of how much the editors stretched to fill this episode and save the actual content for next week’s finale, they included this actual exchange:

Sandy: “How’s it going?” Jono: “Wonderfully. How are you?” Sandy: “Good.”

Ellie is confused about why the guests want a party themed to “Swedish pop music. We’re in Greece.” But ultimately she doesn’t care, because, as she says, “Table decor at this point is the only thing bringing me any sort of joy on this soul-sucking boat.”

Below deck, Nathan’s in tighty whities showing off his penis to the world while trying to get into costume. Gael asks, “How’s anyone fit this?” She’s apparently talking about the costume, a leotard that seems designed for a child, because it fits about up to Nathan’s mid-torso. Aesha sees him and says, “Well-done. That’s quite large.”

In a joint bro interview, Joe called it “very questionable” and Nathan said, “when me granddad sees me in that, I’ll lose me surname.”

In Iain news, he put the Progress Pride flag up , and hung it correctly. He also asks to go on the excursion to Posideon’s Temple with the guests. Sandy agrees, probably because having her bosun off the boat is safer than having him on it.

Aesha decided to send Bri as a reward for not putting all of their clothes in the trash, or trying to wash their laundry using champagne. Bri was so thrilled that she hugged Aesha through tears.

A person points while other people listen

Iain told us that, “in my role, I find I’m sometimes more behind the scenes, making everything run,” which must be what he’s doing in bed all the time.

“I’ve always been an entertainment kind of person,” he says, and that comes in the form of facts about temple he shares with the guests. Hilariously, Bri tells us, “Iain and I really aren’t the best entertainers on the boat.” Oh, you’re entertaining, just for your incompetence.

Oh, I kid Bri and Iain. Seriously, Iain seems—pretty great with the guests? He’s laughing, they’re having fun, he has facts, they seem interested. I mean, this is just a few moments of screen time, but maybe he’s in the wrong job? The same might be true for Bri, too. She offers the guests ice water instead of, say, motor oil. Impressive!

The trip seems fine and the guests seem happy and there’s just nothing happening. Back on board, Sandy tells Iain, “go and get the drag queens,” and he says, “Joe and Gael will go,” because of course he’ll have others do the work. Joe is somehow not a monstrous dick to Gael on the boat ride, and Gael wonders why he can’t be like that all the time.

Aesha asks Carrie about Ellie, who says, “If I had to do a whole season like this, I’d be really struggling to bite my tongue.” Aesha finally snaps when Ellie starts clearing the table without radioing, I think, and then it’s time for the big confrontation!

“I feel like you have been overstepping as the second,” Aesha tells Ellie, the line we’ve already heard in the preview for the episode and the teasers during the breaks. “The job as the second is to delegate when I’m not around.”

But wait: the credits are starting. What?! “I would never disrespect you like that,” Ellie says, and instead of Aesha, say, firing her, we get a flashback to all of Ellie’s bad second stew behavior, like when she screamed at Bri, “SINCE YOU DON’T KNOW HOW BOATS WORK SECOND STEW OUTRANKS YOU.”

The preview for the finale shows Ellie saying, “Fuck that. I’m not taking shit.” But based on how this season has gone, I’d guess that Ellie does, in fact, not receive any actual shit. But a firing in the finale would certainly be dramatic!

Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9, Episode 16 Recap: Snuffing Ellie’s Candle

Welcome to Below Deck Mediterranean  Season 9, Episode 16 recap! In this week’s episode, called “Chain of Command-ment,” Gael and Nathan patch up their misunderstanding, while Aesha helps Sandy plan for her proposal. The new stew fits is a welcome addition, but Aesha finally has to have a talk with Ellie about overstepping her role as the second stew. Here are some of the highlights from Below Deck Med Season 9, Episode 16.

Gael is insecure about her feelings for Nathan

Last week as the yachties returned from their night out, a misunderstanding between Nathan and Gael sent her into a tailspin. She thinks Nathan is just like all the other guys she’s ever dated, and he’s just going to “treat me like sh*t” again. After crying things out with Aesha, she says she wants to go to bed. So Aesha takes her and puts her in Nathan’s bunk. Huh?

But Nathan’s clueless about why Gael’s upset. Sadly, men aren’t mind readers, so she needs to explain.

“What’s wrong with ya?” he asks.

“Nothing,” she says. It’s better to wait until tomorrow anyway to talk things out, after the alcohol has worn off.

“I can’t wait to travel with you,” he whispers. “Seriously.”

“You don’t have to say that,” she tells him.

“I want to say that,” he responds. “I want you, and I love you more and more.” Uh oh. Did he just let the L-word slip? I hope he means it.

Apparently, he did, cause the next morning, Nathan’s still talking about looking forward to traveling with Gael. He’s looking at hotels on his phone.

Ellie feels slighted … again

Aesha meets with her crew before the guests arrive. She congratulates Bri for doing so much better in the laundry. Then she praises Ellie on her table decorations, calling them “absolutely amazing.” She adds, “You’re nailing it!”

Though she appreciates the praise, when Aesha thanks Carrie for clearing the pantry in “half the time it’s been taking,” Ellie silently wipes away tears. It’s always sad when someone takes praise for a coworker as a personal snub.

“There’s been a palpable shift in Aesha’s behavior towards me ever since Carrie got on board,” Ellie complains. “Here I am, like, ‘What about me? Remember me?’” Girl, she just said that you were “amazing.” Take the win and be gracious about sharing the glory.

Aesha then assigns Bri to make up the guest cabins and Ellie to give the stairs “a good vacuum.” But when she radios Ellie to ask her location, she’s in the cabins helping Bri.

“I asked Bri to do that and you to do the stairs,” the chief stew responds. “Just do what I’ve said.”

When Aesha checks the cabins, she notices fingerprints all over the cabin door. “Ellie, Ellie,” she radios, “this door has got finger marks on it. If you’d just give it another little look-over.”

But when Aesha walks by the crew mess, she spots Ellie goofing around. “Did you not [hear] anything I just said?” Aesha interviews. “It’s like she’s trying to piss me off.”

She finally gets Ellie’s attention and puts her back to work. The guests arrive in 25 minutes. No time for messing around.

“I feel like I have to check out a little bit,” Ellie confesses, “because I don’t like how I’m being treated. I fully understand that Aesha wants the highest yacht standards, but the way she’s going about it, she’s achieving the opposite effect.”

Chef Jono welcomes “part of my community” to Below Deck Med

When the charter guests arrive, Ellie and Carrie work together making espresso martinis. Ellie kind of throws her weight around a bit, but Carrie doesn’t take it personally. She just came out of a high-stress situation, so she’s happy not to be in charge.

The guests are a group of six gay men, and ironically, Aesha served them on a previous charter in Australia. She’s so happy to see them again because they were fun guests.

“I’m still pinching myself,” the primary tells Aesha. “I’m like, ‘Oh, my God!’ I feel like, where in the world are we gonna meet next?”

For his part, Chef Jono is excited to have these guests on board. “I haven’t met many gay or Black people in the industry,” he shares. “I’m a gay, Black person, so I’m, like, a double minority. Having a group of guests that are all queer, it’s really important for me to feel that energy … These people are part of my community, and there’s nothing I want more than to make sure that they’re extra happy. I made that flavor, flavor, okurrr?”

While two of the guests discuss which of the deck crew is cuter, Tony says, “I have a pretty good idea which one is actually ‘family.’”

“Oh, the chef?” Giovanni asks.

At the end of the meal, when Jono appears to see how they enjoyed their dinner, he says, “Can I get a ‘Hey, girl, hey?’” I love it, and so do the guests. They also loved his food, which is good news for Jono. I’m so glad he didn’t get fired earlier in the season or after almost killing someone.

Carrie has the laundry covered

While Bri’s on break, Ellie heads down to the laundry to see if Carrie needs any help. Carrie’s got it covered and tells Ellie she doesn’t need her help cause she doesn’t want to mess up Bri’s system. “Too many cooks spoil the stew,” she says again.

Ellie retreats but interviews, “That feels ‘amazing’ as a second stew, having the floater tell me what to do at this point. At the same time, I’ve been kicked out of laundry, but now Carrie can do laundry all of a sudden? What the f*ck is going on?”

When Bri comes back from her break, Carrie tells her about the interaction with Ellie, adding that the laundry is almost done.

“It’s like the laundry just seems to be flying at this point,” Bri interviews. “Having the color system implemented actually helps a lot. But also having Carrie around gives me the time to actually focus fully.”

Meanwhile, as the deck crew celebrates the last time they have to pull up the slide for the season, Ellie decorates the table for dinner. “Table décor, at this point, is the only thing bringing me any sort of joy on this soul-sucking boat,” she says. Yikes. Attitude much?

Ellie doesn’t know boundaries

While the guests enjoy their fabulous dinner, Sandy gets a text from her girlfriend Leah. “Hey, baby, just landed. I’m here!” She has no idea of the surprise in store for her. Sandy’s so excited to see her and propose.

As dinner concludes, Aesha radios Carrie to go down to the pantry and help Jono with the cleanup. Immediately afterward, Ellie radios, “Carrie and Bri, I need your help decorating, please.”

Aesha reminds her that she just radioed Carrie to clear the pantry. “F*cking A, girl,” Aesha exclaims in frustration.

“I do not understand what Ellie is playing at,” Aesha interviews. “I think she’s [trying] to tell Carrie, ‘Hey, bitch, I do have a little bit of power here.’ But guess what, Ellie? I’m gonna swoop in, and I’m gonna put out your candle. Sssss! Poof!”

A treat for Bri, she gets to leave the boat!

The next morning, the guests prepare to leave the boat for a day excursion to Poseidon’s Temple. Iain gets to go since he hasn’t been on a day trip yet. When Aesha gives Bri permission to go, she’s so excited she gives her boss a big hug.

“You’ve been doing so well in laundry the last couple of charters,” Aesha says, “I just wanted you to have a little treat before the season finishes.” Aww. Nice.

Bri is so happy she’s actually sobbing!

With the guests off the boat, Aesha takes the opportunity to meet with Sandy and go over a few details for the planned proposal tomorrow.

“Are there particular flowers that you would like?” she asks. “How would you like them arranged?”

She wants the flowers “lined up along the dock,” Sandy says. “And then a table, a violinist, and champagne.”

“And what do you want?” Aesha asks, knowing Sandy doesn’t drink alcohol.

“Peach tea in a champagne glass,” she requests.

In a confessional, Sandy admits, “With less than 24 hours before I propose, my stomach feels a little funny. I don’t want to get it wrong … I just want it to be absolutely perfect.”

“Can I watch … from afar?” Aesha begs.

When Sandy says sure, Aesha admits, “Oh, my gosh. You just made my whole day!”

Ellie continues overstepping and irritates Aesha

While talking to Jono in the galley, Aesha overhears the girls. She’s annoyed by Ellie bossing Carrie and Bri around.

“How’s this conversation still going?” she asks Jono, who just laughs.

Aesha goes upstairs to check on the party decorations. “Can you just leave them to their little rainbow project?” she asks Ellie.

“I have noticed Ellie kind of overstepping her role,” Aesha interviews. “Ellie thinks that being a chief stew is just walking around the boat telling people what to do. [Bri and Carrie] are pretty capable of putting balloons in the right places. Thanks, Ellie.”

A bit later, Aesha asks Carrie, “Do you feel like Ellie’s been overstepping with you girls?”

“At times,” Carrie admits. “I would say yeah.”

“That kind of sh*t’s not cool with me,” Aesha replies. “When I’m here, I’m delegating … It’s confusing for you guys.”

“If I had to do a whole season like this,” Carrie continues, “I’d be really struggling to bite my tongue.”

“I know how to handle it,” Aesha tells her.

Enough is enough for Aesha at this point

After dinner, Aesha radios, “Jono, Jono, clearing.” Seconds later, Ellie radios the same message, confusing Jono.

Aesha reminds Ellie she’d already informed Jono they were clearing. “I can take care of all that,” she says.

“This is the straw that broke the camel’s back for me,” Aesha interviews. “It’s too much.”

Later, Aesha meets with Ellie. “I just want to have a word with you,” she says. “After the dinner stuff, calling Jono …”

“I apologized,” Ellie whimpers.

“I know,” Aesha says. “[But] I feel like you’ve been overstepping as a second.”

“Really?” Ellie says, stunned.

“The job of a second is to delegate when I’m not around,” Aesha adds. “When I’m on the floor, you’re not delegating. I’ve noticed it quite a lot over the last few days.”

Ellie claims she would “never disrespect you like that.” Au contraire! Production is kind enough to show us clip after clip of Ellie doing just that, over and over again.

“It’s to the point now,” Aesha interviews, “where you have disrespected my position for your own ego so much that I don’t really give a sh*t.”

“I don’t know why Aesha’s just blaming me for everything,” Ellie interviews. She thinks Aesha’s making her a “scapegoat.” Ellie needs to work on her listening skills.

“Throughout this season, I’ve had to coddle her,” Aesha adds. “No more of this sh*t. I’m sick of it. It’s just really frustrating.”

So what’s she going to do? Fire her? It’s the end of the season. We’ll find out next week.

Below Deck Mediterranean  airs Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.
