Royal Yacht Club of Victoria

Royal Yacht Club Victoria (RYCV) was initially founded as the Port Phillip Yacht Club in May 1853 and remains to be one of the oldest yacht clubs in Australia. The Club is situated in Williamstown with a stunning view of the city skyline and is steeped in decades of yachting history and tradition. Today RYCV boasts more than 1,000 Members and over 300 yachts on the register making it an ideal Club for sailors with all levels of experience. Sailors can enjoy reliable and steady breezes with little or no current, making it a perfect stretch of water for club sailing or state, national and international regattas. Royals Training Centre offers courses for all ages and we have a strong and lively social program which is enjoyed by our Members.

Royal Brighton Yacht Club is one of Australia’s premier yacht clubs, offering a wide range of sailing events and activites year-round, including junior and youth off-the-beach sailing and training, world-class Etchells and Dragons one design racing, keelboat racing and cruising.

Our modern marina offers berthing for sailing and motor yachts up to 60ft in length. Royal Brighton Yacht Club was recently awarded Victorian Yacht Club of the Year and is one of Melbourne’s favourite venues to enjoy Port Phillip Bay’s incredible views.

The Olympic Restaurant and Bar is open to the public every day serving breakfast and lunch Monday to Sunday and dinner Wednesday to Sunday. During summer, there is live entertainment on hand every Friday evening on our spacious beach facing deck in the form of ‘Fabulous Fridays’. Offering great live music, champagne and oysters, and of course, the beautiful Brighton sunset.

Upstairs is our Members’ Bar as well as our brilliant Bayview room which offers stunning views of Port Philip Bay and is available for private functions and events, such as weddings, christenings and corporate conferences.

Commodore’s Welcome

It is my very great pleasure as Commodore of Royal Brighton Yacht Club to invite and welcome member and visitor alike to our Club on the shores of Port Phillip.  Royal Brighton Yacht Club has a long and distinguished history going back to 1875, growing from a small lean-to shed on the beach here in Brighton to the large modern facility you see now.

Our passion for the sport of sailing has remained undiminished. The style of yachts may have changed, but the wind in our sails, friendly competition and adventurous cruising further afield, continue to attract countless Melburnians and visitors to our Club on the water.

We have an extensive sailing program, which provides opportunities for young and old, male and female, racer and cruiser to go sailing. For those new to sailing there is children’s or adult learn to sail, while for the more experienced there is racing, or cruising, or a combination of both. Besides our active keelboat and one-design fleets, I am pleased to report that our dinghy classes are strongly re-establishing themselves.

Many members also find great satisfaction in volunteering in the wide range of roles on and off the water, and we recruit and mentor new volunteers at all times, should you be interested in such a rewarding role.

The Club’s online calendar provides an overview of what is on offer this season. Some prefer the Club’s active social program with numerous functions and live musical entertainment without venturing out on the water, whilst our Iceberger members have found a home here for their daily swims.

May I also recommend our catering and hospitality to you – we have a beautiful Members Lounge and a stylish function room with views over the water upstairs to suit all your wedding, dining, party and conferencing requirements.

Welcome to Chelsea Yacht Club

Chelsea Yacht Club is a self funded community club in the City of Kingston delivering Water Safety, Education & Recreation for Life. 

New members and volunteers are always welcome. You can choose to be a sailing, kayak /board / swimming member if you are going to get your feet wet, or a social member if kicking back watching the sunset is your thing. We offer individual and family memberships plus great deals for young people. See our   Membership  and  Registration   pages for further info.

For over 85 years Chelsea has been a leading 'off the beach' sailing club catering to dinghy and catamaran classes and now also supports local paddle boarders, kayakers, windsurfers and swimmers. All levels of ability are catered for, and the members are ready to assist the inexperienced. The Club offers boat and board storage options at both the foreshore Club building and at our indoor self boat storage and workshop facility "The Boat Hub" in Chelsea Heights.

We run an extensive program of Come and Try Sailing and Start Sailing Programs that are open to anyone - you don't need to be a member!

Learn to Sail programs extend from the primary school age 'Tackers' program, through to adult Start Sailing, Better Sailing and Green Fleet courses. Members receive significant discounts on Learn to Sail courses. 

From October to April lunch is available on race days. Our Members Bar is open year round Friday evening, from 5pm with hot food options from the Bar, and Saturday afternoons from 4pm. Come and watch the sunset across beautiful Chelsea beach with us.

We have specific programs for adults learning to sail, juniors learning to sail and a junior development squad. We offer customised coaching for individuals and groups – usually by class or type of boat.

Our sailing school classes are supported by rescue boats to ensure the safety of our sailing school participants at all times, and participants are provided with life jackets.

To enrol in the sailing school you will need to become a member of the club and then register for the sailing school..  Once you are a member you can participate in the sailing school once or multiple times as well as benefit from all the club facilities, the hire of club boats and the opportunity to crew on larger boats for racing.

When you participate in a sailing course you will be asked to pay a small fee to cover the costs of training materials and registration with Australian Sailing.

Port Phillip Bay Racing

Saturday racing on port phillip .

Racing at QLYC is conducted on Saturdays in Summer.  

Briefings are conducted at the Queenscliff Harbour and a varied program of racing is held with a mixed fleet.

Handicap racing is conducted in three divisions: couta boats, fixed keel and trailerable yachts, and larger racing yachts.

Generally races are around QLYC standard courses commencing near the Queenscliff Harbour, with a variable starting and finishing line and utilizing fixed marks in Port Phillip Bay for each leg of the course.

The fleet includes couta boats, small to medium keelboats, trailer sailers, and ocean racing yachts.  

Members’ vessels are moored either, in pens within the Queenscliff Harbour Marina or off the Queenscliff Cruising Yacht Club – on swing and pile moorings.  

A season of racing features trophy races and two major series per summer. Most races contribute to an aggregate series championship.

We welcome new members and new vessels to our fleet.

QLYC invites interested persons to Discover Sailing through crewing using our day pass system - Sailpass .

We also have a popular sailing training program and encourage the participation of female sailers in cooperation with She Sails Victoria .
