The serene hills of Khandala are home to a haunted Rolls Royce car. According to the story, the property was owned by a rich Mumbai-based Christian family. The family included a husband, wife, and daughter, Ayesha, who was 17 years old. They owned a Rolls Royce car as part of their opulent lifestyle. Ayesha Villa was attacked violently one terrible night. She endured terrible agony after seeing her parents killed.

Since then, rumours of a mysterious young woman wandering the grounds at twilight and strange sounds coming from the abandoned house have surfaced. Rumour has it that anybody who dares to enter Ayesha Villa at night never comes out again. The Rolls Royce automobile is still there in the garage, serving as a reminder of its eerie past.

According to the people who live there, the villa was left empty following the murder. The stories are most likely untrue. They added that even if the property is in a fantastic location, there is a desire on the part of someone to stop the sale.

Haunted houses and bunglows from British era are a topic of discussion. We are sure that grwing up, you would have come across at least one story about a haunted place or area. Whats the truth behind such stories we don’t know. However it looks like such stories are not just limited to houses. We have also heard about Bullet Baba shrine in Rajasthan where a Bullet motorbike is actually worshipped by people. Similarly, we have now come across another story of haunted Rolls Royce that is located in Maharashtra’s Lonavala.

If you have been living in Pune or Maharashtra, you might have come across the story of Ayesha Villa and the haunted Rolls Royce that is parked in the porch of the Bunglow. In this video that we have shared here, a bunch young riders visit the Ayesha Villa to check out the abandoned Rolls Royce. One of the person in the group explains that the car has been lying in the porch since the British era. He says that the family living in the house was murdered and Ayesha who was a 17 year old girl was raped by multiple people and was killed in the villa. After this incident, people have started hearing noises and figures in the house at night. The house was abandoned since then and the boy can be heard saying that the house has not one but spirits of many people who died in this villa.

The real story behind the ‘haunted’ Rolls Royce of Lonavala [Video]

There is another version of the story that says that a wealthy Christian couple was living in this house and 17 year old Ayesha was their daughter. One night, the house was attacked and the couple was murdered. This story doesn’t says whether Ayesha killed that night or not. The Rolls Royce was owned by the family and since then the car and the house is said to be haunted. However, both of these are actually stories and we don’t think there is any depth to it.

The house is currently located in a prime location, that is old Mumbai-Pune highway in Khandala. We feel the story might have been circulated by someone who wanted to stop the sale. We know that stories like these spread like wildfire and tracing it back to the person who started is often difficult. With this story, the abandoned house and the parked Rolls Royce covered in dust created a scary ambience to the place. The video featured here was recorded 6 years ago and the condition of the car has only deteriorated after this. People who pass through the road have thrown rocks at the car and that has damaged the windsheild, headlamps on the car. The body panels have also rusted and the car is currently in a pathetic condition.

The car seen here is a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow. This model was in production from 1965-1980. It was powered by a 6.75 litre V8 petrol engine. Another video that has published on YouTube mentions that the owner of the Rolls Royce car is currently planning to restore the Silver Shadow. Before the car was abandoned it was even featured in 2004 Bollywood movie Lakeer. If something like that happens, it would probably be the end of the haunted Rolls Royce or Ayesha Villa story.

A racially offensive painting, yanked from St. Petersburg City Hall decades ago, simply disappeared

  • Waveney Ann Moore Former Times Reporter

ST. PETERSBURG — It’s an apparent mystery. What became of the racially offensive painting a young Black activist ripped from a St. Petersburg City Hall wall one December day in 1966?

The man who marched out with the canvas that portrayed black minstrels with exaggerated features entertaining white beach-goers went to prison, returned to St. Petersburg, gave himself a new name, formed a radical organization and ran for mayor.

But the whereabouts of the painting, a 7–foot by 10–foot mural by artist George Hill Snow, remains unknown, though there is one persistent rumor.

“I heard that it was at a judge’s ski chalet in Colorado,” said Monica Kile, executive director of Preserve the ‘Burg, an organization known for its preservation efforts.

Kile said she heard the story from an impeccable source, who, in turn, told her that “she had heard it from sources she trusted.”

What Kile had not learned was the name of the judge. Others have been more specific.

Word was that former Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Judge Mark McGarry Jr., who died in 2015, got the painting when an evidence room was cleaned out and that it hung in his Colorado home.

Not so, said his son, retired Pinellas prosecutor Mark McGarry III, who laughed at the tale and said he heard it for the first time from a Tampa Bay Times reporter.

“My mom meticulously decorated this place, and anything my father introduced was put in the basement,” McGarry said last week, speaking from the house in Durango, Colo., where, like his father, he now divides his time between the Western state and Florida.

McGarry added that he had archived everything in the Durango house and “never saw anything like” the infamous canvas. Further, he said, his father, who was elected to the 6th Judicial Circuit bench in 1966, was partial to Western art.

Joe Waller was 25 when he walked into City Hall and tore the mural from the wall where it had been in place since 1945. Today, he’s known as Omali Yeshitela, founder of the International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement. The stairwell wall where the painting once hung remains blank, though the city is making plans to hang a plaque that explains the vacant spot and acknowledges the historical significance of Yeshitela’s act of civil disobedience.

Omali and five other members of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee were arrested. A photograph shows the group carrying the painting through downtown streets. What happened later is a mystery.

“We checked into the mural. All of the evidence associated with the Waller case was transferred to the courthouse on May 2, 1967, and never came back,” said Yolanda Fernandez, spokeswoman for the St. Petersburg Police Department, in an email early this year.

Rod Tabler, a senior manager in the office of Ken Burke, Clerk of the Circuit Court, was unable to provide much enlightenment.

“After a thorough search of the records maintained by the Pinellas County Clerk’s Office, we do not find any records responsive to your request as stated,” Tabler wrote in response to a Times inquiry. “In addition, I did reach out to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Property and Evidence Storage department, as well as the St. Petersburg Police Evidence Storage department, and neither of those two agencies have any records responsive to your request.”

Responding to a follow-up question pointing to St. Petersburg’s claim, Tabler said “a thorough and diligent search” had not located the mural “or any other evidence connected to the case.”

This week, though, a search of the entire case file of 2,400 microfilm pages turned up something new, “a copy of a pleading from the case that indicates that State’s evidence #1 (Mural) was stored in their evidence room and not entered into evidence,” Tabler said.

On Tuesday, State Attorney Bernie McCabe stated unequivocally that the mural is not in the possession of his office.

Could that be the end of the story? Judge McGarry’s son suggested that the Times contact one of his father’s close friends, retired Pasco-Pinellas Circuit Judge Robert E. Beach.

“It’s totally false,” Beach said of the rumor connecting his friend to the City Hall mural. “The mural never got to McGarry’s house. I don’t know where that came from. We were very close. I’ve been all through his house in Durango.”

He added that Judge McGarry did not have anything to do with the Joe Waller case. In fact, Beach said, he was the one who granted the young activist bond.

The mystery surrounding the mural continues.

“I’d be curious to know what happened to it, too,” Beach said.

St. Petersburg self-guided walking tours

"In his youth, at least, a man born in this city spends as much time on foot as any good Bedouin. And it's not because of the shortage or the price of cars (there is an excellent system of public transportation), or because of the half-mile-long queues at the food stores. It's because to walk under this sky, along the brown granite embankments of this immense gray river, is itself an extension of life and a school of farsightedness. There is something in the granular texture of the granite pavement next to the constantly flowing, departing water that instills in one's soles an almost sensual desire for walking." Brodsky, 'A guide to a renamed city' (1979) in Less Than One: Selected Essays

Brodsky's words remain as true today as they were when he wrote them over three decades ago, seven years after he had been forced into exile far from his beloved hometown. St. Petersburg is a city that begs to be explored on foot, and not because the layout or dimensions of the city - and still less the climate - are particularly comfortable or convenient for the walker. Rather, it is only by traversing on foot St. Petersburg's broad avenues and palace-lined embankments, in the passively insistent twilight of high summer or the snow-bright blackness of the long winter nights, that you can really appreciate the inhuman inconvenience of this low-rise, wide-open city, the magnificent artifice and poignant hubris of this urban anomaly, a grand Imperial capital conjured tortuously out of the frozen marshes of the far north.

To give some direction to your exploration of St. Petersburg - "a giant mirror for a lonely planet", according to Brodsky - our travel writers and tour guides have compiled a selection of themed walking tours of the city, each focused on one aspect of St. Petersburg's extraordinary history or culture.

Rolls-Royce delivers 6,000 cars in '23, the most ever in one year

It's good to be Rolls-Royce : In the year just passed, the British automaker sold more cars than ever.

Rolls delivered 6,032 cars around the world — the most in its 119-year history — "despite continuing economic uncertainties and market volatility," the company said in a statement.

The manufacturer’s largest market last year was the United States, followed by China . The biggest-selling model was the Cullinan SUV, followed by the Ghost , the smaller of Rolls-Royce’s two saloons.

In 2023, affluent buyers began taking possession of Rolls' first all-electric Spectre model in the autumn. Production of Spectre followed the expected demise of the brand’s Wraith and Dawn models.

Rolls-Royce cars are produced in Goodwood , southern England. The high-level brand became part of BMW in 1998.

It has lately been emphasizing its custom Bespoke division, which generally accounts for higher profits builds. Treatments offered at extra cost to dress up a Rolls include special paint, styling cues and interior "scents."

Current Chief Executive Chris Brownridge, who took on the role last autumn, said: ‘It’s especially encouraging to see the enormous interest in and demand for Spectre, supporting the decision to adopt a bold, all-electric strategy for future model development and production. The record level of Bespoke commissions, both by volume and value, also underlines our position within the luxury sector.” His predecessor, Torsten Muller-Otvos, departed the company in November, having led the group since 2010 and overseen record-setting performances.

Rolls’s North American division recently announced that it would drop the prices of some “aging” units in dealer inventories by $15,000 for cars sold by the end of March. The deal, unusual for Rolls-Royce, stipulates that the models that could benefit are the $375,000 Cullinan and Black Badge Cullinan, as well as the $350,000 Ghost, Ghost Extended and Black Badge Ghost. Every little bit helps, we suppose.

Rolls-Royce delivers 6,000 cars in '23, the most ever in one year

Jason Momoa’s 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom converted to EV

Viknesh Vijayenthiran

Actor Jason Momoa, a car lover and the villain in the most recent " Fast and Furious " movie, recently had his 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom converted to run on batteries.

He didn't do the modification work himself, though. Instead he turned to the U.K.'s Electrogenic, which developed a custom solution for his Phantom.

The company, based on Oxford, also offers so-called EV conversion drop-in kits that can be had for early Land Rovers, including the original Defender, plus the Jaguar E-Type, original Mini, and the 964-generation Porsche 911.

The Phantom's original engine, a 7.7-liter inline-6 developing 40-50 hp, and the original 4-speed manual transmission were replaced with an electric motor with a custom single-speed direct-drive transmission. The electric motor generates 201 hp and draws its energy from a 93-kwh battery positioned within the existing structure of the car.

The range is around 150 miles, according to Electrogenic.

The work done on the Rolls-Royce was documented by Momoa for his series “On The Roam,” which is available on HBO Max and Discovery+. According to Electrogenic, this was its most complex build yet.

Part of the reason was a desire to preserve other elements of the car that were linked to its original inline engine, like a lubrication system designed to send oil to the bushings for brake and suspension linkages, as well as other mechanical control systems.

The brakes were also a challenge. One issue was the original brake servo sat in the housing of the original transmission that was removed as part of the conversion. The company also had to calibrate the brakes to work with a new energy recovery system.

Like all of Electrogenic's conversions, the company also wanted the modifications to be reversible.

Electrogenic found solutions to these challenges while still keeping as many of the original parts as possible, including the original brake cable actuators—something that was important to Momoa.

“I needed a team that would appreciate the storied history of this car while updating its technology,” he said in a statement.

This is not Electrogenic's first Rolls-Royce conversion. The company has also converted a Silver Shadow. Electrogenic didn't say how much a similar conversion would cost, but the price likely varies depending on the condition of the car and the upgrades specified.
