34’ Bermudan sloop designed by Alan Buchanan and built by Sutton and Wiggins Ltd in 1964 to Lloyds 100A1 specification. Buchanan design No.1579.

Sutton and Wiggins Ltd are a slightly lesser known yard from Great Wakering in Essex, they did however build a good number of boats including a string of Buchanan designs and all to a very high standard. This yacht is no exception with excellent choice materials all constructed to Lloyds 100A1 standard.

In the previous 15 year ownership she was thoroughly upgraded with a new engine, teak deck and transom. The present owner has carried out many improvements as listed below all in the last 2 years and this yacht is now in excellent shape and ready to go to sea.

Based on the east coast for much of her life, she has been a regular fixture in various races and regattas, winning the North Sea Race at one time. Her design is typical of Buchanans boats at the time, not dissimilar to the famous Vashti, a little shorter and fuller sections giving more internal volume. Her headroom in the saloon of 6’5” is exceptional for a yacht of her period and size.

Construction

• Carvel planked in teak below the waterline, mahogany above, fastened to steam bent Canadian Rock Elm timbers with copper rivets.
• The bottom 5 planks are teak. Topsides splined for a fair finish.
• Mix of sawn timber and stainless steel strap floors across the centreline. Plank fastenings in way of the floors are bronze screws so that there is no non-ferrous fastenings in contact with the stainless floors.
• External lead ballast keel of 2.5tons, fastened with stainless steel keel bolts, 4 new bolts in 2011. Internal lead trimming ballast of 0.29tons.
• Yacht laid teak deck of 10mm glued with Sikalfex to a 12mm marine plywood subdeck. Seams payed with Sikaflex.
• Deck new in 2009. All deck beams found sound. Small repairs done to the beam shelf and sheer strake on the port side. New transom fitted when deck was replaced.
• Varnished teak cover board and toe rail all round with stainless steel stanchions, pulpit and pushpit. Contemporary cast bronze stanchion bases.
• Varnished teak coamings with chromed bronze windows. Slightly raised dog house aft. Sheathed plywood coachroof deck.
• Self draining cockpit with laid teak thwarts and cockpit sole. Tiller steering. Cockpit thwarts all new in 2013.
• Masthead Bermudan sloop rig on a deck stepped varnished wooden mast.
• Mast stripped and varnished with 14 coats of Epifanes in 2020.
• Varnished spruce slab reefing boom
• Stainless steel standing rigging all new in 2022. Internal stainless chain plates.
• Single standing backstay. Selden roller furling headsail system.
• All running rigging new in 2022 using classic buff braid on braid.
• 3 non-self tailing mast winches and a winch on the boom for reefing and halyards. Pair of Antal W40 bronze self tailing cockpit sheet winches.
• Mainsail, genoa and spinnaker all new in 2023 from Cormorant Sails and used for a very short period only. Sails have been made to original Buchanan sail plan using narrow panels. Cloth is best quality Dacron called Challenge Marblehead
• Old sails are good for cruising, mainsail and genoa new in 2015 from Dolphin Sails, in excellent condition. Spinnaker from 2000 in good condition.
• Nanni Diesel 3100HE 29hp 3cyl diesel installed new in 2005. Engine with very low hours and fully serviced in April 2023.
• Complete engine and stern gear set up new in 2005.
• Engine refurbishment in 2021 with new heat exchanger and associated fittings, engine bay re-painted and new sound insulation.
• TechnoDrive TMC40M gearbox to a centreline fixed 3 blade bronze propeller. Gives 5 knots cruising speed, 6 knots max. New cutlass bearing in 2020.
• 47 litre stainless steel fuel tank under the cockpit.
• 90 litre stainless steel water tank under the saloon cabin sole.
• 3 x 12 volt batteries. 1 for engine starting and 2 x 120ah batteries for domestics, new in 2020. Charged from engine alternator or through a Victron 240v battery charger. Installed shore power system. Electrics all new in 2007.
• 1 manual and 1 auto electric bilge pump. Auto pump new.

Accommodation

• 5 berths including 1 double and 3 singles. 6’5” headroom midships and 5’6” headroom forward.
• Light and spacious cabin with all new upholstery in 2008.
• Interior of the hull totally repainted from the keel up in 2009.
• Steps down over the engine box with chart desk to starboard and galley to port.
• Quarter berth to starboard under the cockpit thwarts.
• Chart desk faces outboard with electrical navigation instruments easily to hand.
• Galley has an ENO gimballed 2 burner gas stove with oven and grill. Single stainless steel sink with pressurised cold water system. Sink drains directly overboard. Top loading 12 volt fridge new in 2016.
• Main saloon with a settee berth either side. Storage space behind the berths and a shelf either side under the side deck. Backs of the settee berths lift up to make the berths wider and more comfortable when sleeping.
• Centreline teak saloon table folds out to full width.
• Centreline bi-fold varnished doors going forward with a heads compartment to starboard and hanging locker to port.
• Heads compartment has a Jabsco manual sea toilet that discharges directly overboard. Hand basin pulls out with pressurised cold water.
• A second bi-fold door into the fore cabin with V-berths that can be converted to a double. Very smart cabin with varnished slats on the hull. Storage space below the berths. Anchor locker in the bows.

BUCHANAN 33, designed by the famous British naval architect Alan Buchanan, was built using only the best materials such as teak & Oregon pine. Nowadays priceless.She has been constantly upgraded by new electric systems, solar panels, anchor winch, inverter, fridge, AIS, EPIRB, VHF dsc, new hatches, batteries,new main sail, new Genoa, new Code 0, new corian kitchen counter & sink etc. However her classic character remained intact. She has taken part in many classic yacht regattas & she has sailed in the North Sea & the Mediterranean. Delivery-transfer by her present owner is possible.

This steel sloop yacht was designed by the famous Alan Buchanan. Alan designed many boats from racing yachts to globetrotters. Although this is a small yacht, she is very heavy and well found, capable of withstanding almost all weather conditions. Her weight in the water will make her a very stable platform if you're planning a long passage in rough weather. The current owner has lived with her for many years but now want to sell her and buy a bigger yacht in Port Ginesta Barcelona. In the last few years, many upgrades have been done to this yacht including a replacement engine. The engine was purchased brand new and has only done few hours. The standing rigging was also replaced recently, so she is ready to go. She will make a great live aboard yacht for one or two people or perhaps if you fancy an adventure just set sail and see where the wind and mood take you. "Helane Peizes and Peter Balding united their efforts to build Dionysus. She would demand six years of sometimes spare and sometimes full-time work to reward her owners with as fine a ship as ever graced the sea. Broker's Comments

It's not often I struggle with where to begin when writing my Broker's comments but this Alan Buchanan Vashti Class yacht simply stopped me in my tracks when I first stepped aboard.

The quality of the craftsmanship of this yacht has to be seen to be fully appreciated. In my opinion she is one of the most beautifully handcrafted yachts I have ever come across.

The current owners purchased this yacht over twenty years ago. They had a clear vision then which has taken them over twenty years of hard work and painstaking attention to detail. One of the owners has spent his entire life as professional boatbuilder having been apprenticed by his father to build boats to Lloyds standard. And you can certainly see that lifetime of craftsmanship and skill in every aspect of this yacht. In fact, the owners have told me that she has in fact been rebuilt from the keel up and so in effect, she is a brand new boat. And that is certainly the feeling I got from the time spent onboard.

During the rebuilding and renovation of this yacht, the owners even met with the original designer Alan Buchanan and had meetings to discuss the boat's ongoing renovation to ensure that they met with his approval, which they did!

Whilst walking around the deck of this boat what struck me, apart from her beautiful lines and craftsmanship, was the rich, deep contrasting colours of the different woods and the deep shine through the thick protective varnish. This, mixed in with the highly polished chrome of the windows, portholes and winches, just made her whole appearance an absolute joy to behold.

Stepping into the deep, wide cockpit, again the craftsmanship and attention to detail is just lovely. The cockpit also benefits from a dog house built onto the coachroof which, when combined with the cockpit tent, provides great protection when sailing or moored up in inclement weather.

Stepping down below into the saloon galley area, again the richness of the different timbers and high quality finish everywhere truly make her a very lovely place to be. She has such a feeling of quality and strength and is certainly somewhere that I wouldn't hesitate in spending many a day, month or year aboard.

Moving forward on the port side there is a nice large heads with shower and a Blakes sea toilet that has been lovingly restored with all of the chrome work having been re-chromed. Then, just ahead is a spacious v-berth in the forward cabin.

The galley is large with plenty of stowage, a deep fridge, a deep twin sink and the cooker is full size with a large oven and four burner rings.

The nav station is large, well equipped and has a high level of specification when it comes to the navigation equipment and aids onboard. The chart table is also large and will easily accommodate chartwork.

Just behind the nav station is a nice sized quarter berth with a with a window letting light flood through from the cockpit area.

All in all, this boat has made my year... she was an absolute delight to be aboard and once you contact me to arrange a viewing, I'm sure you will be as awestruck as I was when you first step aboard.

• Steps down over the engine box with chart desk to starboard and galley to port.
• Quarter berth to starboard under the cockpit thwarts.
• Chart desk faces outboard with electrical navigation instruments easily to hand.
• Galley has an ENO gimballed 2 burner gas stove with oven and grill.  Single stainless steel sink with pressurised cold water system.  Sink drains directly overboard.  Top loading 12 volt fridge new in 2016.
• Main saloon with a settee berth either side.  Storage space behind the berths and a shelf either side under the side deck.  Backs of the settee berths lift up to make the berths wider and more comfortable when sleeping.
• Centreline teak saloon table folds out to full width.
• Centreline bi-fold varnished doors going forward with a heads compartment to starboard and hanging locker to port.
• Heads compartment has a Jabsco manual sea toilet that discharges directly overboard.  Hand basin pulls out with pressurised cold water.
• A second bi-fold door into the fore cabin with V-berths that can be converted to a double.  Very smart cabin with varnished slats on the hull.  Storage space below the berths.  Anchor locker in the bows.

The Ferretti Group, one of the world top companies specializing in the design, building and sale of motor yachts, with an amazing portfolio of eight of the most exclusive and prominent brands, is thrilled to announce its participation in the Moscow Boat Show 2013. From 12 to 17 March, two of the Group fleet’s most successful yachts will be presented as absolute premieres for the Russian market: motor yacht Ferretti 530, representing Ferretti Yachts , and the 27-foot Iseo superyacht tender by Riva .

This year’s Moscow Boat Show will also offer the Ferretti Group the opportunity to announce all yachting enthusiasts in Russia and Northern Eurasia a new important achievement in its international growth: the renewal of its exclusive dealership agreement for the Russian Federation with its partner Premium Yachts , one of the leading dealers operating in the boating sector in Russia , which will represent the Ferretti Yachts , Pershing , Itama , Bertram , Riva e Mochi Craft and Ferretti Custom Line brands.

The agreement – which was officially announced today during a press conference attended, among others, by Ferruccio Rossi (Ferretti Group’s CEO), Alexey Kurochkin (Premium Yachts’s President), and Stefano Campanelli (Sales Manager for the EMEA area for Ferretti Yachts, Pershing, Itama, Bertram, Riva, Mochi Craft and Ferretti Custom Line) – is part of Ferretti Group’s strategy for a further expansion on the European markets offering the best short/medium-term growth perspectives, also thanks to the financial soundness regained following the strategic partnership forged with the Weichai Group.

More specifically, the Russian boating market holds a great potential for the Ferretti Group’s development because of the rapid growth of average wealth among the population and an increasing interest for Made in Italy luxury goods, like Ferretti Group yachts.

Through the renewal of the agreement with Premium Yachts, the Group will further strengthen its highly selected distribution network – which currently includes approximately 60 dealers ensuring the best possible customer care in more than 80 countries worldwide – as well as its presence in the traditional EMEA ( Europe , Middle East , Africa ) area, one of the three macro-regions (besides the America and the Asia-Pacific) into which the Group’s sales structure is divided.

Moreover, in a medium/long-term perspective, the Ferretti Group is expecting an increasing interest on the Russian market not only for flying bridge yachts above 70’ in length, but also towards smaller crafts, both flybridge and open/coupé ones, which are particularly suitable for river cruising or pleasure boating in Russia’s large lakes. Consequently, the renewal of the dealership agreement with Premium Yachts also allows to look ahead at the future aiming to conquer new market segments where less competitors are currently present in terms of both products and geographic location.

The press conference, which was held today at the Lotte Hotel in Moscow, had also the objective of introducing attending journalists and yachting enthusiasts to the main new products launched by the Ferretti Group over the last few months, namely: motor yacht Ferretti 870 , Ferretti 690 yacht , and the project of the new flagship Ferretti 960 superyacht for the Ferretti Yachts brand; luxury yacht Pershing 82 ’ and superyacht Pershing 108’ New Edition for Pershing; Riva 63’ Virtus and the project of the new Riva flagship, 122’ Mythos yacht , as well as the entire range of the Itama, Bertram and Mochi Craft brands.

The yachts launched over the last few months by CRN – the Group’s brand specialising in the construction of steel and aluminium yachts between 40 and 90 metres – were also presented during the conference: the two superyachts: CRN superyacht Jade (60 metres long) and CRN mega yacht Chopi Chopi (80 metres long), the latter being one of the largest pleasure vessels ever built in Italy and the largest one ever built by the Ancona-based shipyard.

“The renewal of our dealership agreement with an important partner like Premium Yachts – which has worked on the Russian market for almost 10 years and can boast an outstanding product knowledge and an excellent local market penetration – and the presentation of the Group’s latest models are an integral part of our development strategy on the EMEA markets offering the best growth perspectives in the short-medium term,” stated Ferruccio Rossi, Ferretti Group’s CEO. “The Moscow Boat Show 2013, which has now reached its sixth edition, will extend over approximately 45,000 square metres this year and will be attended by more than 350 international boating companies. This Show represents an interesting business opportunity for us and an unmissable event in terms of visibility, since we are identifying a considerable growth potential in this area thanks to the timeless attractiveness of our products – true ambassadors of Made in Italy production all over the world”.
