Why: Choose a Mediterranean Yacht Charter?

Mediterranean yacht charter vacations are always by far and away the most popular summer location. You can read hundreds of our client endorsements here . Think the French Riviera, Monaco, Italy, Croatia, Sardinia, Spain and Greece. This is where most of the large crewed superyachts are concentrated and this is where also where you will find a huge variety of interesting places and cultures to experience. The Mediterranean (or Med’ for short) has everything. The area covers a large diversity of countries, cultures landscapes and experiences. Yet, the fantastic thing is that they are relatively close together, so you can create convenient and action packed itineraries very easily. On top of this, the yachting infrastructure in Europe is second to none so there are dozens of beautiful marinas filled with beautiful private superyachts and mega yachts that can be chartered as well as all the shops, restaurants, bars and conveniences that you could need. Because of its popularity the Mediterranean has an incredible choice of charter boats available to rent, both motor (power) yachts and sailing yachts, including the ever more widespread large luxury private superyacht charters.

How Much Does it Cost To Charter a Yacht in The Mediterranean?

Mediterranean yacht charter prices vary according to the size, style and age of the yacht. Our luxury superyacht charter yachts rent from 30,000 Euro to over 1,000,000 per week, plus expenses, in the form of an advanced provisioning allowance (APA). Conversely, smaller 'all inclusive' type vacations cost between Euro 15,000 to 50,000 per week. Here is the full list of all the charter yachts and here are the current Mediterranean yachts with special discounted prices .

Timing & Weather: The Mediterranean Yachting Season

The Mediterranean yachting season generally runs from April to the end of October. During the height of the season, in July and August, the climate is warm and sunny and the winds tend to be light. While this is the high season for all tourism, you can still easily avoid onshore tourists while afloat. The weather can also be good during the shoulder seasons.

Tip: Shoulder Season Means Value & Choice

Another good time to charter your yacht is generally on either of the shoulder seasons from April-May and September-October. These periods fall each side of the main summer season when the temperatures are still comfortable. September, for instance, is an underrated time of the year because the weather is usually good (if not too hot) but the sea is at its maximum temperature which is ideal for swimming. At this time there is greater choice of berths and anchorages for your boating vacation and the onshore tourists are not present in their largest numbers.

Important Spots: Consider These For Your Mediterranean Yacht Charter

Mediterranean yachting holiday locations are unequaled in their natural beauty, cultural heritage, passion, glamour and style. There was a time when the Mediterranean was the center of the known and civilized world and for private yacht charter vacations, to an extent, it still is. Today, the clear azure waters of the Mediterranean maintain a cachet of culture, history, sophistication, luxury yachts and stunning beauty, all with an endearing reputation of unrestrained energy.

The sunny Mediterranean is often conveniently split into two main areas - The Western Mediterranean and the Eastern Mediterranean . Both parts are culturally unique, yet both are lipped with stunning beaches, hidden coves, majestic ports and luxury yachts. Yachts of all sizes and shapes grace the Mediterranean, some are large motor yachts, some are sleek sailing yachts, some performance orientated and others of a more comfortable cruising style. This fabled area provides the untamed extravagance of the French Riviera , the gravity-defying architecture of the Italian coasts, the unaffected charms of Croatia, the fragrant orange groves of Spain , the exotic lure of Turkey and Greece , the birthplace of civilization.

History and Culture

Ancient ruins at sunset in charter location greece

The Mediterranean sea is connected to the Atlantic Ocean, bordering more than 22 different countries, and over 3,000 islands, the largest two being the Italian islands of Sicily and Sardinia.  Its name comes from two Latin words: 'Medius” (Middle) and “Terra” (Earth/Soil), roughly translated as the center of the Earth, and the sea itself is thought to be more than 5 million years old.

In terms of Mediterranean culture, there isn't a one size fits all approach — each and every country in the region has their own. But we can say that there are some overarching themes: an appreciation of the finer things in life being one of them: of nature and of cuisine.

Types of Yacht Charters in the Mediterranean

A luxury crewed  yacht rental vacation in the Mediterranean is without a doubt the best way to lap up the natural splendor of this magical region, offering you access to a dizzying array of splendid spots far from the typical tourist trail.

With an extensive selection of vessels available to choose from, the perfect yacht for you and your charter party is destined to be out there. Unsure whether a crewed motor yacht charter, sailing yacht charter, or in some cases, a gulet charter will work best for you? We've laid out the main aspects to consider before making a final decision.

Motor Yacht Charters in the Mediterranean

range of charter motor yachts docked at portofino, italy

A crewed motor yacht charter  in the Mediterranean is the epitome of luxury. With seven-star amenities and hotel-serviced living coupled with a completely unrivaled level of privacy, it's no wonder a motor yacht has evergreen appeal. Uncover awe-inspiring that are only accessible by boat, and experience what it's like to have your own floating palace.

There is a huge variety of Mediterranean motor yachts available, from 100m superyachts with all the latest charter-focused amenities to small speedy weekend cruisers, or somewhere in between. But do keep in mind when selecting your motor yacht that slips here are in high demand during the summertime, which means it's more likely you will spend time at anchor.

As for yacht types, those with planing hulls are perfect if you want to zip through locations at speed quickly. However, they are usually less stable at anchor.

Displacement and semi-displacement hulls are slower and make up most of the global charter fleet, They are more comfortable, voluminous, and more stable with at anchor stabilizers.

Sailing Yacht Charters in the Mediterranean

marina in porto cervo italy

Selecting a luxury crewed  sailing yacht charter in the Mediterranean is a wonderful choice for guests looking for a slower vacation pace, where you will be wooed by the sailing yacht's old-school charm. Plus, with most sailing conditions in the Mediterranean being extremely favorable, typified by calm seas and light winds (apart from the Meltemi at certain times in Turkey and Greece), this is absolutely a sailing paradise.

And with an extensive selection of catamarans, monohulls and racer sailers available, it won't be difficult to find a charter sailing yacht in the Mediterranean that will meet your requirements.

Gulet Charters in the Mediterranean

Turkish Gulets blue water cruising

In  Turkey  & Croatia you also have an additional charter option: the possibility of renting a gulet  with a full crew. Gulets are traditionally Turkish-built wooden motor sailor yachts which are usually much larger in volume than your average sailing yacht, with an abundance of open-plan living spaces.

Turkish gulet yachts are less expensive than other charter vessels of the same size, and can often offer all-inclusive or semi-inclusive packages, meaning you don’t need to worry about additional expenses such as food and drink. They also normally include a standard number of cruising hours per day.  Plus, their crew are often local to the region that they cruise in, meaning they can double as tour guides and can provide a lot of valuable expertise.

You can visit Greek Islands on your Turkish gulet charter vacation, but you will need to embark and disembark in a port in Turkey unless it has a Greek Charter Licence - which is very rare.

Gulets are not available in the West Mediterranean cruising areas.

How Much Does It Cost to Charter a Yacht in the Mediterranean?

The average price of a motor yacht or sailing yacht rental in the Mediterranean will depend on several factors, including the vessel's age, type, crew, as well as the duration of the vacation and whether it is high or low season.

With so many options available, there’s something to suit every type of budget. For convenience we have listed the average prices for motor yacht and sailing yacht charters in the Mediterranean below;

  • For motor yacht rentals in the Mediterranean, prices can range from $31,541 to $1.6m per week, plus expenses
  • For luxury sailing yacht rentals in the Mediterranean, prices can go from $20,491 to $532,784 weekly, plus expenses

One aspect to keep in mind is that there are important distinctions to be made between the average costs for West Mediterranean and East Mediterranean yachting vacations. While exact costs can vary from yacht to yacht, typically, West Mediterranean yacht charters will involve newer, larger vessels and include a high-quality, international workforce, and therefore tend to usually incur higher prices. Meanwhile, East Mediterranean yacht charters will usually use older vessels and feature highly knowledgeable local crews.

When is the Best Time for Mediterranean Yacht Charters?

Traditional colourful Greek fishing boats in Pythagorion port, Samos island, Greece

The best time for a yachting vacation on the Mediterranean is between May and August, although weather is still pleasant in the shoulder months of April and September, with some East Mediterranean locations experiencing high temperatures well into October (Croatia, Turkey, Greece).

Yacht charter guests in the Mediterranean during these months can expect mellow seas, cloudless skies  long, sunbaked days and low rainfall.

However, if you are looking to evade the crowds and the heat, avoid July and August.

Where Should I Begin My Mediterranean Yacht Charter?

iconic yacht rental destination french riviera

France is by far the most popular starting point for the classic "Mediterranean milk-run charter" route (Saint Tropez to Portofino), with this term coined in the industry to reflect the most celebrated and chicest locations along the Côte d'Azur.

The best place to begin a Mediterranean yacht charter is in Nice for itineraries along the coast and towards the Italian Riviera, with the majority of guests flying into Nice Airport before being chauffeured to its port or Antibes. Cannes Vieux Port (which is a mere 30-minute drive from Nice's Airport) is also popular if beginning further west towards Saint-Tropez .

Ibiza is also a popular starting point for Balearics charters, while Positano and Ajaccio are useful embarkation ports for Amalfi Coast and Corsica yacht charters respectively.

For East Mediterranean itineraries, Athens is a popular choice for charters around Greece's Aegean archipelagos, with the highest concentration of yacht rentals, while superyachts cruising the Ionian and Adriatic Coast tend to be flexible, with charters embarking from any number of popular destinations; from Venice  in Italy down to Corfu  in Greece's Ionian Islands.

If you would like to spend a night in port while on your charter yacht in the Mediterranean, be sure to make this clear to your crew or your charter broker well in advance, as there is strong competition for slips.

Below is our selection of some of the finest and most popular marinas in the Mediterranean:

Where to End a Mediterranean Yacht Charter

Superyachts moored in Bonifacio port in Corsica

Portofino is one of the best places to disembark your Mediterranean yacht charter if you are embarking on the typical week-long yachting vacation along 'the milk run' (incorporating destinations in the French Riviera and Ligurian Coast). Guests usually take a helicopter back to Nice or Genoa airport.

For two-week-long Mediterranean charter vacations, Bonifacio is one of the most popular places to finish a private yacht charter in the Mediterranean due to its outstanding natural beauty. It boasts one of the most stunning port entrances in Europe, bordered by soaring limestone cliffs on one side, and on the other its impressive medieval old town teeters on a hilltop. Upon leaving, guests are chauffeured to nearby Ajaccio international airport.

For East Mediterranean charters, Athens is a popular disembarkation port, as well as Porto Montenegro and Dubrovnik or Split on the Adriatic Coast, all of which offer good transport links with international airports.

Mediterranean Yacht Charter Q&A

We advise booking your Mediterranean yacht rental at least three months in advance to ensure you get the yacht you desire. The longer you leave it, the fewer choices you will have to rent in the Mediterranean.

One of the wonderful aspects about renting a yacht in the Mediterranean is the exceedingly long season. For example in West Mediterranean locations like France, Spain and Italy, the best time to visit is usually from May until September. This balmy weather extends to well into October in East Mediterranean destinations like Greece, Croatia, Montenegro and Turkey.

For your Mediterranean superyacht charter, you will need to provide a completed charter agreement and 50% of the charter fee as a deposit. This is payable once the contract has been signed.

When booking a Mediterranean yacht rental, do keep in mind the costs that aren't included in the base rate, namely VAT and the APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance). The APA is usually paid in advance of the charter and is commonly set at 30% of the charter fee. This allowance covers expenses such as fuel, berthing, food and drinks, as well as any special requests.

Please consult your yacht charter broker for any other costs you may need to factor in for your yacht charter in the Mediterranean.

Most luxury boat rentals have five or six staterooms or cabins in various configurations, including twins, double, queen, and king beds. On most charter yachts, you can customize the configuration of the cabins dependent on the number of guests. This will allow you to take between six and 12 charter guests. Depending on the charter vessel, staterooms may include ensuite bathrooms, state-of-the-art entertainment systems, private study areas, and walk-in wardrobes. Larger mega yachts may have additional cabins for staff members like nannies, security, or personal butlers.

What are the sleeping arrangements aboard a yacht?

It depends on the yacht. For example, you could ask for a master cabin that is separate from your yacht charter guests if you want enhanced levels of privacy. If you are one big family, you can request a yacht with cabins closer together. If sleeping arrangements, including the placement of cabins, are an important consideration, then let your charter broker know.

Are kids allowed on a yacht charter?

Of course, kids are welcome aboard a yacht charter in the Mediterranean. Most yachts welcome nannies, too, with some larger superyachts having additional staff rooms specifically for nannies. A yacht charter offers a wonderful family vacation. Onboard amenities, including swimming pools and cinema rooms, are guaranteed to keep youngsters entertained, as too are the water toys, such as snorkeling gear, inflatables, fishing gear, and kayaks. With advanced notice, the crew can also arrange fun, kid-friendly activities, such as treasure hunts or fun fancy-dress parties.

The best time to charter a yacht in the Mediterranean is between May and October.

Summer yacht charters in the Mediterranean are most sought after in July or August, but June after the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix is typically viewed as the season’s start date. Some charterers prefer off-peak season trips to avoid crowds and kids and to enjoy the warm, quieter waters of September and October. Let our yacht charter brokers know your dates and budget, and we will do the hard work for you, including finding the right luxury boat for your dates and desired experiences.

How much does a Mediterranean yacht charter cost?

The cost of a yacht charter in the Mediterranean with Northrop & Johnson starts at about $50,000 per week and will include the charter yacht and crew. You will then be charged for additional costs, including fuel, provisions, marina fees, and other expenses in your advanced provisioning allowance (APA). For larger and newer superyachts, you can pay up to $500,000 per week, not including the APA .

What is an Advance Provisioning Allowance, or APA?

The Advanced Provisioning Allowance acts as a bank account and is designed to cover expenses that cannot be fixed in advance, such as food and drink, fuel, and berthing fees. What will the crew do for me on a Mediterranean superyacht charter?

Northrop & Johnson does not handle bareboat yacht charters. All our superyacht charters include a captain, or skipper, and a crew who will make your yacht charter vacation the best experience possible in the Mediterranean in the heart of Europe. A typical crew will include a captain, deck crew, interior crew, and a private chef. Additional crew may include a sommelier, personal fitness trainer, and beauty therapists. The exact roles of the crew will depend on the size and type of your vessel, but you can expect:

  • A captain who is responsible for navigating the yacht and ensuring that all safety regulations are followed
  • Deck crew who take care of the yacht’s exterior, including maintenance tasks such as cleaning, refueling the vessel, water sports activities, and more
  • Interior crew who provide five-star guest services such as serving meals, drinks, cleaning and maintaining the interior, including staterooms, laundry, and more
  • A chef who will prepare gourmet meals to your liking.

Ultimately, the crew will strive to make your experience enjoyable and stress-free by handling even the smallest details during your luxury yacht charter.

Can I decide which meals will be made onboard a yacht charter?

Yes, the menu is completely up to you. You and all guests will provide a preference sheet prior to embarking so the chef and interior crew can provision and have all of your favorites aboard the yacht.

“As a chef, I believe in using fresh, locally sourced ingredients to create unique and flavorful dishes that are tailored to my guests’ palate. I take pride in creating truly memorable dining experiences that are sure to please.” Chef onboard  a private yacht

New to charter?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is due at the time of the final charter payment. Under MYBA terms, this sum is usually equivalent to 30 per cent of the total charter fee, but may be up to 40 per cent in some cases.

Intended to cover the operating expenses of a charter as explained under Charter Terms, such as fuel, food, drinks, port fees and ad hoc incidentals, the APA will be given to the captain before the start of your charter. The Captain will ensure that the yacht is fully fuelled and provisioned when you step on board. While an up-to-date summary of accounts can be requested at any time during your charter, a full set of accounts will normally be submitted by your captain at the end of the cruise. If, during the charter, the expenditure exceeds the sum already paid, additional cash funds will be required at once.

All outstanding bills from the yacht charter should be settled in cash or by bank transfer before your final disembarkation. Of course, any remaining credit at the end of your charter will be reimbursed to you in full. On request, transfer arrangements to and from the yacht can be made by Burgess or by the yacht’s captain, payment for which will be deducted from your APA.

Mediterranean Sailing tips

Mediterranean Sailing tips

This time 12 Knots invites you to discover the most traveled  part of the world – a glorious journey around the shores of the  Mediterranean Sea.

It is a long, lively, occasionally challenging and endlessly  fascinating trip off from Gibraltar, one of the fabled Pillars of  Hercules, up the coast of Spain, along the Riviera, to the islands of  Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, then Croatia, the Greek islands and way-way  to Istanbul in Turkey.

Sailing along the coastlines as wild and diverse as anything you  encounter before will give you a real insight in this world – while  probing through layers of traditions and culture, ancient and modern,  rich and poor, fake and authentic.

Be open to surprise and serendipity, be willing to get lost and appreciate each routine’s uniqueness.

The Mediterranean Sea is an intercontinental one that separates  Europe from Africa. The Strait of Gibraltar connects it to the Atlantic  Ocean on the west; the Dardanelles and the Bosporus – to the Black Sea  on the east; and long man-made Suez Canal – to the Red Sea in the  south-east.

Chartering a boat in the Mediterranean

Renting a yacht in the Mediterranean is a  great alternative to a standard cruise on a liner – this way you will  feel the true freedom and get unique experience as a real traveler!  Spain, Croatia, Italy, France, Montenegro, Turkey, Greece, Malta -  wherever you want to go, 12 Knots will help you to charter a yacht that  will definitely meet your needs, type of vacation and budget. "The cradle of civilization" offers a huge number of attractions.  Secluded bays with paradise beaches and lively cities, fishing villages  with colorful boats and modern marinas filled with premium yachts. There  is no other part of the world where you may find such a great  gastronomic, architectural and nature diversity.

Renting a yacht in the Mediterranean Sea will give you  chance to see many countries of this area in a different perspective.  Instead of visiting standard touristic places you’ll be able to visit  wide variety of little-known places far from the standard routes. For  example, the Cote d'Azur is not only the luxurious ports of  Saint-Tropez, Monaco and Nice with luxury restaurants, casinos and a  great concentration of mega yachts. Here you may also find little  fishing villages, where in a family restaurant you can dine on freshly  caught fish with white or rose wine. Spain is not only Ibiza discos and  beaches of the Costa Brava, full of tourists and pareo vendors, but also  quiet harbors with amazingly clear water, where you can enjoy unusual  solitude.

Rent a boat and do what you want

Mediterranean yacht charters is the opportunity to do what you  want. Every day you can taste local versions of Mediterranean dishes  that differ in terms of cooking method, spices and sauces. Without any  haste, you may stroll among the ancient ruins and climb the walls of  beautifully preserved ancient fortresses, offering spectacular views on  the sea - exactly the same as hundreds of years ago.

Your  vacations will be much more interesting if you choose to rent a yacht.  The Mediterranean coast length is over 40 thousand km, 21 countries and  three continents with different coastal relief. Here you can find almost  everything: volcanos, starch-white and coal-black lava sand, pebbles  and shell rocks.

For photographers, video bloggers and movie  lovers, renting a yacht in the Mediterranean also gives the opportunity  to see a lot of interesting things – in a quite unique way. Among the  places that must be visited is the Italian town of Portofino, where  Antonioni / Wenders shot one of the episodes of the romantic drama  “Behind the Clouds”. Also don’t miss the Amalfi Coast, which is often  served as a backdrop for films about beautiful life. One of the most  scenic views here is Positano village with its colorful houses that  cascade down right to the blue water.

Those who love nature and  silence should include in the list one of the secluded Greek islands  with bicycles and boats. You can rest peacefully on some beaches of the  eastern coast of Sicily, and find a great combination of warm turquoise  of the sea and white fine soft sand. If you are getting bored with peace  and tranquility, you may always get off the anchor and set up sails to  the place where life is in full swing - like Ibiza, in Barcelona,  ??Monaco.

Benefits of sailing in the Mediterranean

One of the main features of the Mediterranean region is its  relative compactness and high dencity of different attractions. History  and architecture, museums, nature, beach attractions and water sports,  shops, amusement parks - all of these can be in just one sailing  vacation.

Mediterranean bareboat yacht charter gives you a  chance to visit places that are almost inaccessible from land, because  they have neither a parking lot nor a safe trail to the sea. You may  find plenty of secluded coves in rocky shores of Turkey and Greece,  where every spot can be your personal secret place, whit not risk of  finding another company.

Dazzling white streets of the small  coastal towns in Greece or red tiled roofs of Montenegro, contrasting  with the huge mountains. Malta’s cultural microcosm, where European,  Arab and African intertwined, and where, in addition to the magnificent  Gothic and Baroque buildings, there are prehistoric sanctuaries, the  secrets of which have not yet been solved. Turkey, with places not  touched by resorts, where you can clearly feel the breath of antiquity.  All this can be points of interest during your yacht charter in the  Mediterranean Sea!

For active travelers who value independence  versus staying in one spot, decision to rent a boat in the Mediterranean  Sea is definitely a solution. If you plan an ordinary trip with an  accuracy of one day and hotels bookings in advance, then yacht gives you  a chance to improvise and change your plan. Renting a yacht is two in  one option: accommodation and transportation at the same time.

It is not surprising that Mediterranean yacht charters are in great  demand and one of the most popular sailing destinations offered by 12  knots. Sailing in this region is a dream for many people, while we make  it a reality. We offer bareboat and crewed yachts for charter from  classic Turkish gulets to modern sailing boats and premium yachts. Our  manager will give detailed information each boat so that you can make  the right choice.

Above all we also can help with itinerary and  destination ideal for your needs and time of the year. For example, if  you are looking for diving or other waters sports, we will tell you the  best spots for underwater attractions and the best way to get there.  Where to find the most beautiful views? Which cities should go to catch  spectacular holidays? Where are the best water parks, shopping centers,  casinos, discos? Answers to all these questions will help create a  unique roadmap.

There are so many reasons to charter a yacht in the Mediterranean Sea. The first is that the surrounding islands and land are a wash with historically significant sites, from acropolises to windmills and charming white-washed villages that look straight off a storybook page.

Then there is the to-die-for cuisine that includes fresher than fresh seafood, local cheeses like feta, and other delights unique to each location that will have your mouth watering and belly rumbling. In particular, if you find yourself on the Amalfi Coast, be sure to try the homemade pasta; it's worth the carbs, we promise!

Last of all, don’t forget those magical nights under the stars. See yourself lying on the deck of your yacht, champagne in hand, gazing up at the clear night sky with the sound of the waves gently lapping in the background? Then renting a yacht to sail the Mediterranean Sea is for you.

Mediterranean Yacht Charter - FAQ

If you have decided Mediterranean is your next vacation destination, make it a memorable one with a yacht charter.

Contact one of our charter experts to discuss your vacation plans, destinations, type of yacht, budget, and the size of your group. We will recommend the best charter solutions.

If you prefer to choose a vessel on your own, you can do so by using our website proposals, however our office is happy to advise by phone or email and prepare an offer for you based on your preferences.

Once you have selected your yacht, the next step is to read the agreement we will send you, then sign and return it to us. Finally, we will send you the Preference Form, for you to fill out and email to us, so that we can ensure everything is ready for your arrival.

As stated in the charter agreement, you must pay a deposit of 50% of the total fee to secure your charter. The remaining 50%, plus taxes and any additionally agreed charges, should then be paid one month prior to arrival.

The vessel is considered booked as soon as the first instalment of 50% of the total price is paid, or the whole charter fee for bookings made within 30 days before the departure. Payment must be made by bank transfer.

Your charter agreement outlines rules and regulations for cancelling your charter. If your charter is cancelled due to force majeure, we will refund the entire amount paid or, if the parties mutually agree, the Charter Period can be postponed to a mutually agreed time. Should you wish to cancel your charter for any other reason, we will deduct cancellation charges as per your agreement. We recommend you purchase travel insurance to protect you from any cancellation charges and read the Charter contract for the detailed cancellation process,or ask our staff.

If you wish to change the charter terms or cancel the reservation, this must be notified in writing (via e-mail, fax or registered post.)

The Mediterranean Sea is a wide geographical area so weather conditions can vary significantly between the North and South. Mediterranean holiday locations include the French Riviera , Corsica , Spain, Italy including the islands of Sicily and Sardinia , Croatia , Greece and Monaco  to name just a few. Just as popular are the Spanish and Greek islands; the Balearics including  Ibiza ,  Menorca  and  Mallorca , as well as Santorini  and  Corfu . The Mediterranean is a key global location for yachts and sailing.

The high season in the Mediterranean typically runs from May to the end of August with July and August being by far the most popular times of the year. You may choose to avoid July and August and plan your trip in May, June, September, or October when the weather is still sunny, the waters warm and the crowds are fewer.

With respect to sailing conditions- Spring is best as the waters are calmer and the sun is still shining making for perfect Mediterranean sailing. We recommend May and June as the best time of year to take your sailing vacation.

At West Coast International we have a wide range of vessels offering Yacht Charters in Mediterranean. We offer motor yachts, sailing yachts, motor and sailing catamarans, mega yachts, and superyachts. The choice of vessel will depend on your personal requirements, group size, ages, interests, places you want to visit, budget and any unique needs. Our charter specialists are ready and available to discuss your Mediterranean itinerary and specific requirements to ensure you charter the most suitable vessel for you.

While the choice of the vessel depends entirely on your wishes and preferences, this may help you decide:

Superyachts fully crewed:

Sailing yachts  – excellent for both family and an active vacation

Catamarans  – very stable and comfortable, ensure high speed sailing

Motor yachts  – for speed cruising enthusiasts

Gulets  – two masted wooden sailing boats, which use both the power of the engine and sails

Luxury mega yachts  – Fully crewed luxury yachts that can travel internationally

You can bring children of any age on your private charter, there is no age limit. They should be closely monitored by adults from the charter party.

We do not provide childcare services onboard our charter. Children must wear life vests when partaking in water activities and are advised to wear life vests at all times.

If you are bringing a baby, it is advisable to bring baby food items as these are often difficult to find in the marina supermarkets and for our crew to source.

Children are best placed in the front cabins and the cockpit is the safest place to play. Smaller yacht charter clients can also request in advance a safety net to be placed along the sides of the boat.

You may consider choosing shorter itineraries and visiting marinas more frequently in order to provide safer berthing and comfort for the children.

Mediterranean Yacht Charters

The Mediterranean is a biogeographical region that includes the Mediterranean sea with seven countries, including France, Italy, Portugal, and Spain, as well as Greece, Malta, and Cyprus. The region is famous for charterers and luxury yachts because of its unique climate with hot and dry summers and a hilly landscape.

Because of that, the Med is a famous destination reserved for yacht charter holidays. Many people visit the Amalfi Coast in Italy, French Riviera, the Balearic Islands in Spain, and many other destinations for the perfect yacht charter vacation.

At 26 North Yachts, we are known for being the one-stop destination where you can book your Mediterranean yacht charter trip and enjoy a luxurious holiday on luxury motor charter yachts or sailing yachts. Today’s guide shows you more about the best destinations in the Med and some of the best Mediterranean yacht charter itineraries .

Why Cruise With A Mediterranean Yacht Charter?

Chartering on the Mediterranean will allow you to explore a unique mix of cultures, history, and beautiful landscapes amongst some of the most popular destinations. Whether going to the West Mediterranean or visiting the East with a charter yacht, know that many beautiful destinations and picturesque places attract thousands of luxury motor yachts every season.

From the beauties of ancient Greece to the finger-licking food in Italy and the tranquility found in Croatia, or sunny Turkey, these destinations offer many experiences for all yacht charter guests.

Enjoying a unique experience on a yacht charter throughout the Mediterranean is the perfect holiday for many people. From the luxurious cities of St Tropex and Monaco, Capri and Porto Cervo to the ancient towns of Dubrovnik, Amalfi, and Palermo, the Med promises a lot of glitz and glamour. While the Eastern Mediterranean boasts a more relaxed lifestyle, the Western side of the Med is where you will find incredible nightlife and plenty of superyachts on the radar.

You probably know many iconic dishes worth trying if you love Mediterranean food . The diverse cuisine is the key to a healthy life and the secret behind the vitality of many Europeans. Typical examples of Mediterranean food from the Eastern part include olives, wheat, grapes, pita, moussaka, greek salad, dolmas, borek, mezze, falafel, shakshuka, and plenty of other recipes.

The provencal cuisine of France and local pasta, lasagna, and other dishes along Italy’s coastline are also among the many gems that the Med possesses. If you like something to pair these foods with, know that grappa and wine are something the Med has in abundance – making your food cravings bigger and each meal better. Now, let’s talk about the best time to visit the Mediterranean.

When To Visit The Mediterranean?

If you want to see this region, know that the Mediterranean charter yachting season starts in late April and runs to the end of October, with July and August being the season’s peak months. The best thing about the Mediterranean is that the climate is warm and sunny, with light winds. Even if you want to avoid tourists, you can pick a Mediterranean yacht and visit some of the best regions during the late spring or early fall seasons.

These are also known as shoulder seasons, where you will get more value and be offered more choices. If you charter in the Mediterranean during the shoulder season and months such as May or September, you will see cheaper Mediterranean offers and how pleasant the weather is. For instance, May offers longer days with more sun, while September is when the sea is at its maximum temperature allowing for more swimming. Both times are great for a vacation, and onshore tourists are not something you will see in large amounts during your Mediterranean yacht charter holiday.

One thing is for sure, though – the summer season is when the Med gets full and busy. It is also the most active season for yacht charters and a time when it is more difficult to find your dream yacht. However, summer is when everyone is roaming through the coastline, so if you want to be there, make sure to book your holiday early. Doing that in advance is one of the best tips to ensure that we can make all the arrangements you need for the perfect yacht holiday.

Top Destinations For A Luxury Yacht Charter Holiday In The Mediterranean

Below, we will see locations from the Eastern to the Western Mediterranean, showing you some of the best hotspots for traditional yacht charter sailing and modern island hopping.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Croatia offers a typical Mediterranean charm that is difficult to experience elsewhere. It is a true gem among yacht charter enthusiasts and one of the most uprising yachting destinations in the last decade. There are many national parks, UNESCO World Heritage zones, and fantastic islands worth exploring. The islands of Brac, Split, Mljet, Hvar, Korcula, and Krk all offer unique activities. With over a thousand islands in total, Croatia is known for its calm winds and turquoise waters. During your unforgettable yacht charter holiday, you can also taste some of the freshest sea bream and sea bass and enjoy the Dalmatian islands.

Balearic islands, Spain

They say that if you want to experience a unique combination of old and new, the Balearic islands of Spain are what needs to be on your yacht charter list. This part of the Western Mediterranean offers a lot of ancient history, which is best seen in the Gothic castles, museums, and cobbled streets, as well as nightlife and entertainment. From restaurants to nightclubs and port-side cafes, you can enjoy the scenic coastlines of the Balearic islands and explore islands like Ibiza, Formentera, and many others. The Balearic is a world-famous charter yacht region for island hopping – you can see plenty of yachts and enthusiasts exploring the rich culture of Spain.

Malta is an Eastern Mediterranean yacht charters location that has gotten popular over the past decade. Best enjoyed at sea; it offers beautiful nature, turquoise sea, magnificent historical sites, and warm temperate all year round. Sailing in Malta is a great way to grasp all of that and see why this place is on the list of cruising grounds of many enthusiasts.

The Malta yacht charter experience starts with a trip to Comino, a place known for its wonderful turquoise waters and scenic surroundings. You can explore the Blue Lagoon, Santa Marija Bay, St. Nicholas Bay, and the Comino Caves and then roam around the island. Some of the other destinations worth exploring include St. Paul’s Islands, Selmun Bay, Paradise Bay, Gnejna Bay, Armier Bay, Golden Bay, St. Peter’s Pool, Blue Grotto, and Filfla.

Bodrum, Turkey

Bodrum is one of Europe’s new hotspots and an Eastern Mediterranean gem where you’ll see lots of sun and plenty of sandy beaches. There is an abundance of crystal clear waters and plenty of water sports activities such as parachutes, jet-skis, banana boat rides, snorkeling, scuba diving, etc.

Bodrum is also one of the biggest hotspots in Turkey and a popular place for yacht charter holidays. Everyone can discover new entertainment areas suiting their style, and you will easily admire Bodrum and the magnificent coastline surrounding it. From historical sites and museums such as the 15th century-old Crusader castle of St. Peter to the Underwater Archaeological Museum and Bodrum Castle, this place is considered Turkey’s St. Tropez, which is why it is popular for people looking for East Med charter vacations.

French Riviera & Corsica

The French Riviera (also known as Cote d’Azur) is the perfect example of a luxury yacht charter holiday. Its sheltered bays and amazing locations are a true playground for the rich and famous. you can easily spot some superyachts and a lot of cosmopolitan flavor in all the famous ports and jet-setting locations such as Monaco, St Tropez, Cannes, etc.

If you are more into island hopping rather than seeing events like the Cannes Film Festival or the Monaco Yacht Show, you can escape from ports like Saint Tropez and head to Corsica with your yacht and enjoy privacy in some of the secluded bays. Mega yachts are a popular sight all along the West Mediterranean, so be ready to spot some stunning boats and plenty of yacht charters.

Renowned throughout the world as the ultimate Mediterranean yachting destination, the French riviera is where the elite goes for a holiday. You can stretch anywhere from Monaco down to the Iles d’Hyeres, and see all the exclusive towns as you roam with your yacht down the coastline. Each of these towns has its unique traits and attractions, offering Michelin-star fine dining, great nightlife, and excellent beaches.

Amalfi Coast, Italy

We all know that Italian riviera is one of the few gems of the West Mediterranean and a country where you definitely fall in love. The mix of history, culture, food, and way of living makes the Italian Rivera a must-do for every yacht charterer. You can easily see that Italy is also on the list of destinations at every charter broker.

Together, the French and Italian rivieras make up for the glory of the Western Mediterranean and are known as cruising grounds for the rich. The stunning Amalfi Coast and the picturesque cities of Amalfi, Positano, and Sorrento are among the most popular locations here, but the Northern coast with Portofino and Cinque Terre are equally charming.

If you have already been to the Amalfi coast and want a different taste of the Italian riviera, you can head to Capri, Ischia, and Sardinia with your yacht. The Marina Piccola at Capri is a sight worth visiting – if you want some high-fashion, you can go to Capri’s main square or visit the Porto Cervo marina in Sardinia to see the red carpet for fashionistas. If you want to experience more of the island vibes, head south to see Sicily, where you can discover Mount Etna, an active volcano set along a rugged landscape.

Montenegro might be one of the most magical countries in the East Mediterranean and a place where you must visit. While many overlook it because of the variety of locations throughout the Mediterranean, the Montenegrin coast can be sailed in about seven days. There are plenty of national parks and ancient harbors. It is possible to sail from Kotor to Ulcinj (near the Albanian border) and back, with plenty of time reserved for sightseeing and swimming.

You don’t need advanced yacht charter itineraries here – most yachts just follow the coastline and stop by in all of the locations worth visiting. There are some modern marinas, too, such as Portonovi and Lustica Bay. Just stick to the mainland, and you’ll see the harbors worth visiting. As a reward, you will get a fair of romance in the historical town streets and fun activities at the gorgeous beaches along the coast.

While there are not many islands (only 14), beginner sailers will enjoy the friendly thermal winds. There are no gusts of wind which makes sailing this part of the Mediterranean easy. In addition to that, you can see why the towns of Kotor, Herceg Novi, Ulcinj, and Bar are listed on UNESCO and chosen for their magnificent fortifications of Venetian-style townhouses.

There’s no better way to explore Greece, its islands and coastline than by yacht. An incredibly hospitable nation of charming cities, ancient ruins and more than 2,000 islands, this Mediterranean paradise offers beautiful anchorages only accessible by yacht, plus coves where you can soak in the sun and swim in crystal clear waters.

What Are Some Of The Best Mediterranean Yacht Charter Itineraries?

If you are booking your charter yacht holiday and want some inspiration before you visit the open sea, we have prepared many sample itineraries for all locations within the Medi. Our Mediterranean yacht charters roam through all these locations, and our goal is to provide you with all the necessary information for your luxury yachting holiday.

From fine dining to events like the Cannes Film Festival , the best times to visit some Greek islands, protected waters where you can swim, the best times to expect calm seas, where you can see ancient ruins, or the best places to try incredible food, these itineraries are based on the number of days you plan to charter in the Mediterranean and the specific locations and countries you are looking to visit.

If you are booking a Mediterranean yacht charter for the first time, we strongly recommend opting for more days – our 7-day trips are popular. Still, we recommend 14-day luxury yacht charter trips in specific parts like the Western or Eastern Mediterranean. No matter what private yacht charter offers you choose, know that we will provide you with an itinerary for your trip.

In its debut year, Four Seasons Yachts will explore more than 130 distinct destinations across over 30 countries and territories. All itineraries are crafted with flexibility in mind, allowing guests to tailor their own adventure as they explore beyond the familiar. The team curating each itinerary understands the nuances of these locales, ensuring each experience is truly extraordinary. Enhancing itineraries are customizable with pre-and-post hotel and overland programs at beloved Four Seasons hotels and resorts.

The first Four Seasons Yacht, currently under construction in Ancona, Italy, will travel westbound as part of its repositioning and will welcome guests to set sail amid the serene turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea from January to March 2026. The first Caribbean itineraries feature seven nights of exploration through the most exciting yachting destinations including Saint Barthélemy (St Barths), Nevis, the Grenadines, St Lucia, Barbados, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Curaçao and Aruba. Destination highlights include indulging in the dazzling nightlife of St Barths, discovering Martinique’s volcanic coral reefs and lush rainforest landscapes, a marina day in St Lucia’s Tobago Cays, and much more.

With more destinations and details to be unveiled in the coming months, the first  Grand Mediterranean  voyages will begin in March 2026 and will include sailings through Croatia, Gibraltar, Montenegro, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Türkiye. The Mediterranean itinerary will also highlight the Greek Isles , with stops in Athens, Ios, Santorini, Milos, and more. Guests will explore under-the-radar islands steeped in culture and history, offering a variety of experiences that go above and beyond the ordinary of Mediterranean sailings.

Bespoke Suite Designs Focused on Comfort, Connection and Care

In collaboration with Tillberg Design of Sweden and the Yacht’s Creative Director, Prosper Assouline, the Yacht’s suite design embodies the essence of intuitive luxury, each a sanctuary of tranquillity with panoramic views, elegant interiors, thoughtful details and a residential feel that creates the sense of a welcoming home at sea.

"Our goal was to craft an environment that feels both familiar and extraordinary, with warm hues and open designs. We are creating an inviting, welcoming environment that reflects the same feeling one experiences at a Four Seasons hotel or resort," says Fredrik Johannson, Partner and Executive Director of Tillberg Design of Sweden. “At the same time, we are designing a look and feel that is unique to this project, creating an elegant yet simple interior that stands out on its own, while blending beautifully with the majestic seas that will surround it.”

With 50% more living space per guest than currently available with any competitor at sea, all suites will offer floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing sweeping sea views, double vanity bathrooms with spacious showers and closets, expansive private terraces, and dynamic use of space and light.

The Yacht’s extensive network of adjoining suites will feature an innovative system that connects accommodations with modular walls, offering numerous options of vertical and horizontal combinations within the signature suites. This versatility will unlock more than 100 different connection options and the unique opportunity to reserve an entire side of a deck, perfect for those travelling with family, friends, or larger groups. For example, this one-of-a-kind design will allow for more than 13,000 square feet (1,200 square metres) of total living space.

A New Suite Standard: Funnel and Loft Suites

The largest accommodations are seven signature suites ranging from 2,981 to 9,975 square feet (277 to 927 square metres) of indoor and outdoor living space. They offer two to three bedrooms, separate living rooms, indoor and outdoor dining space, splash pools, outdoor showers, and the option to connect to additional suites.

The premier signature suite accommodations – the Funnel and Loft Suites – both feature three bedrooms, outdoor showers, and splash pools. The largest on board, the Funnel Suite, housed within the Yacht’s glass-enclosed funnel, is 9,975 square feet (927 square metres), spanning four levels of living space. The suite’s towering floor-to-ceiling wraparound windows, made up of the largest contiguous piece of glass at sea, is a one-of-a-kind engineering feat offering stunning 280-degree panoramic views. The Loft Suite is 7,952 square feet (739 square metres) and can accommodate large group sizes of up to 20 people by connecting with seven additional suites, the largest number of connecting suites available.

When exploring beyond the comforts of their stunning suites, guests can enjoy 11 dining options, spa and wellness offerings, a state-of-the-art transverse marina, and the stern pool, set to be one of the largest in the industry at nearly 19 metres long and 5 metres wide (65 feet long and 18 feet wide). Its unique hydraulic lift design will allow the pool deck to level out, creating an expansive outdoor space for weddings, celebrations and other events.

Four Seasons Yachts will redefine luxury at sea with its all-suite, residential style product, best in class design and the brand’s renowned service and care delivered through a 1:1 guest-to-staff ratio.

A hot opening in may on the turkish riviera: maxx royal bodrum resort.

Yachts waiting off the Bodrum peninsula.

In the summers, yachts moor just off the Bodrum peninsula while their owners come ashore for long, sybaritic lunches. Guests at the hotels dotting this stretch of the Turkish Riviera recline on chaises positioned on floating piers in the Aegean. At night everyone heads to the clubs to dance, drawn in by vocalists’ siren songs that waft onto the streets.

The lineup of villas at Maxx Royal Bodrum Resort.

Bodrum first emerged as a chic perch on the international holiday map in the 1970’s and its allure has only increased since 2019 when new hotels and refreshed versions of favorites entered the scene. Adding to the options is a new resort set to open in May: the upscale, secluded and, unusual for the area, all-inclusive Maxx Royal Bodrum Resort .

The interior of the five bedroom Presidential Hill Villa.

The style, as devised by Turkish architect Mahmut Anlar, is lean and contemporary, in neutral colors accessorized with dashes of sharp black and white designs, artisan ceramics and art. The smallest one-bedroom suite is 775 square feet; the largest, the five bedroom Presidential Hill Villa measures 11,442 square feet and includes a heated, sea water lap pool, a sauna, steam room and fitness center.

Google suddenly reveals surprise android update that beats iphone, 3 body problem already dethroned in netflix s top 10 list by a new show.

Paddleboarding in the Aegean Sea near the Bodrum peninsula.

With its location on the northern part of the Bodrum peninsula surrounded by Goltürkbükü Bay, water sports are, naturally, a main focus as an activity. Adding to the experience is access to Mykonos beach club import Scorpios opening in June and its combination of wellness practices utilizing ancient healing techniques, cross cultural music and art presentations and restaurant spotlighting Eastern Mediterranean cuisine.

The spa treatments zone at the Maxx Wellbeing Spa.

Back at the resort, wellness is also a pillar of the experiences with a spa combining rituals from different cultures. Holistic therapies such as Tok Sen, acupuncture and Reiki; Ayurveda therapies from India; high tech cosmetology such as microcurrent therapy and ozone therapy; slimming and detox treatments; LED light therapy facial treatments and the pure rejuvenation of an authentic hammam are some of the features of the Maxx Wellbeing Spa. Also part of the spa are an anti-aging retreat program ranging from three to 21 days and a full scale 3,606 square foot fitness studio staffed with instructors specializing in yoga, Pilates, spinning and sound healing along with medical treatments such as Platelet rich plasma injections, a practice any sports fan has probably heard about since it’s used on athletes to promote healing after injuries. For those who prefer swimming in a pool, there’s also an Olympic sized indoor pool as part of the spa.

A variety of culinary options is also planned spanning the globe from local flavors to international names. Among the seven restaurants: Twenty4, open those hours and serving a range of global cuisines including local Turkish specialties; Manos serving Greek cuisine; Latino serving Latin American cuisine; the caviar specialist Caviar Kaspia ; the predominantly Italian Oro by Alfredo Russo under the guidance of the Michelin starred chef; glamorous, international carnivore specialist Beefbar and Wolfgang Puck’s Spago . Special culinary boutiques focused on fine chocolates, pastries and ice cream are also in the mix as are eight bars, plus live music, DJs and sunset parties in the Bodrum spirit.

A resort sunbathing pier

As much as that focus will be on adults’ entertainment, families are also included in the planning. The Maxxi Land Children’s Club will cater to children age one to teenage, dedicating a space to each age group and including land and sea sports and games, dance classes, art workshops and a cinema and gaming room for the older kids. As with the best of kids’ clubs, while they’re occupied with these activities, parents can have a real vacation too even if it’s just lounging on one of those piers.
