Major Marine Tours Orders Scania Quad V8 Powered High-Speed Catamarans

Scania was selected by Major Marine Tours in Seward, Alaska to power its latest whale watching vessels. The 87-foot Spirit of Matushka, delivered in the Spring of 2021 and its sister ship Skana , launched this month, were constructed by All American Marine, a company based in Bellingham, Washington. The vessels are powered by four DI16 082M 800 hp engines supplied by Cascade Engine Center and propelled by Hamilton 422 Water Jets. The custom-built catamarans are capable of a top speed of 32 knots with a full capacity of 150 passengers and full fuel, with a lighter load they can reach 36 knots. The identical ships are the fastest, most fuel-efficient vessels in the Major Marine Tours fleet.

The new catamarans were specially designed to give passengers the best viewing experience possible. The bow is built with stadium-style standing areas for optimum wildlife viewing, a first for Alaskan whale watching vessels. Additionally, the third deck has unobstructed 360-degree views and is partially enclosed to block the wind while still enjoying the outdoor seating. The vessels also have ample outside viewing space on the first deck, which is also a fully wrap-around wheelchair accessible deck. The semi-displacement catamaran hull for these vessels were developed by Teknicraft Design in Aukland, New Zealand. The design integrates the signature Teknicraft symmetrical and asymmetrical combined hull shape, bow wave piercer and innovative hydrofoil system.

“Knowing that fuel efficiency and speed were the primary driving factors behind the design and outfitting of the Spirit of Matushka and Skana , we knew that our engines would be the perfect solution,” said David Hughes, sales manager – marine products, Scania USA. “Our DI16 engines not only provided the performance and efficiency Major Marine required, but also were a quieter alternative, perfect for not disturbing the wildlife that passengers are coming to see.”

quad engine catamaran

“All American Marine worked with us to refine our goals, build two proven vessels that met those goals, and then delivered,” said Colby Lawrence, Major Marine Tours Vice President. “In fact, despite building two boats during the midst of a global pandemic they delivered both boats on time and on budget. These new vessels with their Teknicraft design and the Scania engines give us the capacity, comfort, fuel economy and speed that are revolutionizing the fleet for Major Marine Tours.”

Built on a Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) engine block and employing a simple wastegate turbocharger, the quad Scania DI16-liter engines deliver top-of-class performance without the need for additional turbos or superchargers. The resulting lighter weight, combined with Scania’s proprietary Engine Management System (EMS) and common rail extra high-pressure injection system (XPI), optimizes fuel delivery enabling impressive torque, lower noise and exceptional fuel efficiency.

The New Cat Class

  • By Lenny Rudow
  • Updated: February 20, 2020

Lagoon Seventy 8

Power catamarans have always had hardcore fans, and we could all argue for the umpteenth time about whether powercats are better than monohulls. Yawn . The truth is, there’s a relatively small but dedicated group of powercat lovers who will never agree with the monohull crowd. Trying to persuade one or the other to change their minds is akin to locking Rush Limbaugh and Rachel Maddow in a room and saying, “Go.”

A more interesting debate is about what, in any particular catamaran’s design, triggers such dedication. I say particular because one of the great judgmental errors naysayers make is lumping all multihull boats into the same category. Nobody would say all monohulls are alike, yet powercats are often painted with an exceedingly broad brush and then dismissed or embraced on the whole.

Truth be told, whether you’re considering a 40-foot center-console cat with quadruple outboards or an 80-foot cat cruiser with the elegance of a Trumpy, the ability of a designer to take advantage of the twin-hull platform is often the key to the design’s success—or lack thereof.

“The design work on a cat is far more involved than on a monohull,” says Larry Graf, who started off his design career by creating Glacier Bay powercats and, today, designs and builds Aspen Power Catamarans. “With a monohull, you design from the centerline out, then mirror it on the computer and pow —you have a full hull. A typical monohull hull can be done in three to five days. But for a cat, the best shapes are often asymmetric, so each hull has two halves that are not the same.”

And the hull is just the beginning of a cat’s story. Is it easier to design an interior that fits into one hull or into two separate hulls plus a center deck level? That cats have more complexity on the inside is a no-brainer.

However, having the two separate hulls also provides advantages. One is privacy on a level that can’t be matched in any monohull, if a cat’s designer works with the shape of the boat.

The key to harnessing this privacy advantage is the ability to separate staterooms not just with thin bulkheads but instead with entire hulls, or at the very least with head compartments and companionways. In part, this ability contributes to the popularity of powercats in the charter market.

Lex Raas—president of charter and special initiatives at MarineMax, which launched the Aquila line for charter in 2012 with the Sino Eagle Group—says the Aquila 48 illustrates how privacy can be done right on a catamaran.

“The privacy advantage specifically is that the port hull is a full owner’s cabin,” he says. “There are no shared bulkheads. And on the starboard-side, there are two absolutely equal cabins with equal heads and showers between them. You can take two couples with you, and nobody feels that they’re getting the short end of the stick.”

The elimination of shared bulkheads increases privacy quite a bit on that Aquila, but examples become even more stark as you consider larger yachts. One of Sunreef’s newest offerings, the 80 Sunreef Power, for example, can have six staterooms—all separated by full heads or companionways, with no two staterooms sharing a common bulkhead.

The ability to have more staterooms that are more private is in large part a function of beam on a cat, designers say.

“Beam is gained for the whole length of the boat, and the cross-deck provides a huge space,” says Mathias Maurios, a naval architect at VPLP Design in Paris, a firm known for designing twin-hulled yachts. “And while, yes, the individual hulls are narrower than a single monohull body, on the whole, usable space is larger than with a monohull. The width allows for more of the valuable interior and deck space.”

Maurios points to the Lagoon Seventy 8 as an example. “The staterooms are the size of the cabins in a much larger motoryacht,” he says.

The other big advantages many cats can claim relate to seakeeping, speed and efficiency. Again, no two powercats are alike, but a close look at specific models is illuminating. As we reported in Yachting ’s review of the Lagoon Seventy 8, for example, at a 10-knot cruise, the boat has 4,000 nautical-mile transatlantic range—a boast that few engine-driven yachts of the same length overall can make. Smaller cats can also have extreme ranges for their size; consider that the Fountaine Pajot MY 44 can reportedly cruise more than 1,000 nautical miles between pit stops.

“Speed, stability and comfort are the prime words illustrating catamarans,” Maurios says, “and we’ve always believed that multihulls are ideal.”

Aquila 70

Lagoon Sixty 7

When designed for speed instead of efficiency, cats enjoy a different sort of advantage. Consider the Freeman 42LR, a quad-engine, 62-knot center-console. That boat gets close to 1 nmpg when cruising at just under 50 knots. And because the vessel has a compression tunnel—air gets compressed between the hulls at high speed, creating a cushion that softens the blows when striking waves—it can maintain that pace in conditions that would make most monohulls rather uncomfortable, to say the least.

What about those disadvantages the cat haters often point to? The unusual handling characteristics, the need for wider slips to match wider beams, the nontraditional looks and higher initial cost—sure, there are trade-offs. Then again, every vessel has some level of compromise.

So, let the pundit debates rage on. But remember: Power catamarans are just as different and distinct from one to the next as monohulls are, and smart design is the key to harnessing the advantages of the form.

Fast, Luxurious, Light, and Fuel Efficient.

The Concept

Horsepower vs Weight ratio: Hammer Yachts builds power-catamarans which are 40% lighter compared to other vessels, which means that a HammerCat needs half the horsepower to get the same performance. Speed is mostly about horsepower vs weight ratio, the same with sports cars, bikes, planes, you name it. There is no reason for a quad engine set up on a HammerCat. We still get the same performance, yet we run very fuel-efficient with an amazing range.

We started Hammer Yachts in 2018 as we felt that the current offering of power catamarans was not what power-cats should be: elegant, high performance and fuel efficient. We felt that the power cat market was ready for a new concept, and we assembled a team of experienced professionals resulting in the first HammerCat 35 being completed in 2019, a full-on production line for this model in 2020 and the first HammerCat 45 went in production in 2023.

Boutique builder:

Hammer Yachts builds up to 12 HammerCat 35’s per year, and each one is different. We can build the HammerCat 35 as a hard-core sport fishing vessel with tuna tower / live bait wells / coffin box /etc. Or we can build the HammerCat 35 more as a super yacht tender / family day boat with seating for up to 14, U shaped seating forward, large coolers / iceboxes / dive door / dive ladders. Or we can mix and match to build a boating platform ideally suited to your needs.

Design and features:

The HammerCat 35 is the first model in the next generation of power catamarans. The HammerCat 35 is the first power catamaran to have gorgeous lines: a sweeping Carolina bow line normally only seen on mono-hull sport fish yachts. The HammerCat 35 combines her good looks above the waterline with a very efficient and modern “wave piercing” underwater body, featuring a double stepped hull for an amazingly soft ride in offshore conditions.

Construction:

All HammerCats are 100% epoxy composite construction with a standard carbon fiber hardtop. We use top of the line materials and the latest technology to ensure a strong and stiff hull.

Nortech Catamarans

Nortech catamarans, ultimate power and control on any waterway.

Boats can be found in every waterway throughout the world, but they are truly not all created equal. Some are made for the purpose of a leisurely afternoon on the water while others are perfect for fishing tournaments, but the true test of a boat is how it performs on the water. True performance is all about the build, the engines, and the features onboard that offer the boater the experience they desire. The NorTech Catamarans are the boats you have been waiting for full of strength, performance, and agility.

Performance

A boat is not a real boat without the power backing it and the NorTech Catamarans have power and performance where it counts. The twin or quad engine options enables the boat to seamlessly sail across the water outmatching all other boats in its path. There are two models to choose from within the Nortech Catamarans lineup. The small of the two is the NorTech 4000 Roadster with the larger being the NorTech 5200 Roadster . Both have excellent speed and agility while on the water. The Nortech 5200 is understandably a bit larger and therefore has need of more engine power, but both models come with the ability to customize the engine options for optimal use. Either turbine or gas engines are available to make your NorTech Catamaran all that you want it to be.

At the Helm

The helm is where all the action happens aboard the NorTech Catamarans and both the Nor-Tech 4000 and the Nor-Tech 5200 series deliver on the most important features. The helm is fully customizable with the ability to seat up to 10 people in the Nor-Tech 5200 and seven within the Nor-Tech 4000. Accessibility is key at the helm of a Nortech Catamaran and no expense was spared in this area. The helm features the ability to house up to three full sized navigation screens with steering capabilities able to be set up for either single or dual options.

Notable Features

Racing along in your new Nortech Catamaran is sure to give you the thrill of a lifetime, but it is not just a thrilling experience. The designers of the Nortech Catamarans engineered the vessel to not just be fast on the water, but convenient as well. Both models come equipped with a fully functioning head with shower, sink, and toilet. They also feature a full-sized berth to allow you to get away from the sun for a while and rest. With ample seating throughout you and your guests can enjoy the nautical experience you have been looking for all while remaining completely comfortable.

Spectacular Design

Seeing a roadster type speed boat crushing across the water is truly impressive, but something is often lost when the vessel does not feature a remarkably unique design. The Nortech Catamarans are truly marvels to behold while traveling across the top of the water, but designers of the vessel designed it with the art of attraction throughout. The clean lines of the Nortech Catamarans are sure to impress any new buyer, but it is the attention to the small details that make it so impressive.

Nortech Catamarans are designed to by eye-catching with luxury materials that allow for supreme comfort throughout the experience. The designers ensured that the pilot and copilot are completely comfortable while at the helm, but they did not forget about the need for comfort and accessibility in the rear portion of the vessel. No matter what seating configuration comes on your new Nortech Catamaran, aft facing video monitors allow for all to have a view of what is going on for ultimate comfort.

Wind Screen

The wind can become quite fierce when traveling at the top speed of the Nortech Catamaran series at around 126 MPH. In many high-speed vessels, it can become almost too much for the average boater, but the Nortech Catamarans are designed to offer the best experience possible, so even if the speedometer climbs to its max, you and your guests can remain in complete comfort with the wrap around wind screen. The wind is no longer an enemy when riding in one of these amazing and impressively designed speed boats.

Where are They Used

NorTech Catamarans are amazing boats for racing and sea excursions out with the family. These boats are most adapted to areas such as Panama City Beach and Daytona as those areas seem to be the most speed friendly. NorTech Catamarans may not be suitable for beaches with animal preserves due to local noise ordinances, but it is best to check with the local area you intend on taking the boat to before heading out for a day on the water.

The task of selling a boat can be rather difficult in such a competitive industry, but there is a better way than merely relying on classified ads and traditional forms of selling. We at Vessel Vendor want to help you successfully sell your boat. We have the expertise and experience to back us with a keen understanding of what the boat enthusiast wants in a new boat.

Quad Propeller Propulsion

A New Option for Catamaran Workboats.

In 2011, Teknicraft Design of New Zealand designed and engineered what is believed to be one of the first quad propeller propulsion systems for a catamaran hull in the U.S. Designed for a newbuild, 134-foot research vessel recently delivered to C & C Technologies, Inc. of Lafayette, LA, the propulsion system had to accommodate many multi-missioned tasks. These will include shallow water hydrographic surveys, deep water offshore surveys and AUV operations.

“It’s been about a three or four year story for me,” said Scott Croft, Vice President of the Geosciences Division of C & C Technologies, speaking of the design and build process. The concept for the Sea Scout started with the general arrangement drawing of a NOAA catamaran vessel called the Manta. Croft said this was the type of vessel C & C Technologies was looking for. The company chose a catamaran hull because it features more deck space than conventional vessels, allowing C & C Technologies to carry all the survey equipment it requires to serve its customers. To get enough deck space on a conventional monohull would have meant a heavier ship and the need for greater horsepower. In addition, the company wanted fuel efficiency at a variety of speeds including slow surveying at just a few knots and high transit speeds to and from the work site.

“The concept of quad propeller propulsion was part of the conversation early on,” Croft said. The initial proposals were for a two engine, two propeller vessel using electric engines run by generators for low speeds and conventional diesels for full speed. However, said Croft, “it was never proved out in concept that it could work for C & C’s application.”

Croft said they also looked at jet drives at one point, however, he added, “part of the reason we went with propellers is slow speed control.” Jet propulsion, he said, would be difficult to control at surveying speed. Ultimately, All American Marine, partnered with naval architect Teknicraft and won the bid to build and engineer the boat with the unique quad propeller propulsion design. The builder-designer team proceeded to grapple with how to fit the system into a catamaran hull.

  • Overcoming the Design Challenges

“Getting four propellers in a cat hull was a challenge, but it worked out very well,” said de Waal. It also adds to redundancy in the vessel’s systems he pointed out. “We placed the engines in a staggered configuration ‒ one in front of, and to the side of, the other. One engine faces aft and the other faces forward. This arrangement allowed generous space around each individual engine for servicing and cleared space for the generator to fit in between the main engines.” The vessel design includes two Caterpillar C6.6 170 ekW generators.

“Space constraint was a particular problem,” he said, “but the most challenging was to engineer the propellers and more specifically the location of the propellers and the rudder to work in unison, considering that the two propellers on each side had to be very closely spaced from each other below the catamaran demi-hull. This created a situation which required significant design work, including computational fluid dynamic analysis to ensure that the wake from one propeller is superimposed on the other propeller in a positive order. To maximize efficiency, we did not locate the propellers side by side, but staggered them at different longitudinal spacings and height. The system had to be designed for various operational scenarios, whereby all four propellers work together at high transit speed, or where one pair of propellers work while the other pair of engines are shut down in other modes of operation. There were many permutations which needed to be considered and solved.”

Another unique aspect of the propulsion system is the use of composite instead of steel shafting between the engine and the gearbox. The gearbox is remotely mounted and not attached to the engine. “The composite shaft is far better in terms of noise reduction and its ability to prevent any whipping (shaft vibration),” said de Waal, which is important in research vessel operations.

“There were many different operational scenarios to cope with in terms of propeller design,” he said. Consideration had to be given to the increased drag created by the vessel’s long range fuel tanks and the heavy loads that may be carried for some types of operations. Propeller placement also had to take into account retrieval of the AUV. “It’s quite tricky to get it back on board especially in rough seas because it gets very close to the stern of the boat,” said de Waal. Consequently the propellers also had to be placed well away from the transom.

  • The Benefits & System Specs

“We designed the vessel to have a very specific two-week mission plan,” said Croft. “It has the engine configuration to leave the dock and transit to the work site at top speed.” This, he explained, is accomplished with all four engines online. “Then we shut off the two larger engines and run on the smaller engines for fuel economy during the two weeks on the survey site.” Finally, all four engines are brought back online to transit back home at full speed. Fast transit gives the company more time on the survey site and allows them to go farther and be more competitive in the bidding process.

“A work site that used to take a day and a half to get to will now take half to three-quarters of a day,” said Croft. “It lets us reap the benefits of time and money.”  Nic de Waal, Managing Director at Teknicraft Design in Auckland New Zealand was the main architect on the job. “The particular application of this propulsion is for a vessel that needs to operate at large variations in speed,” he said. “In this case, the vessel needs to transit to the survey area, which may be 100 nautical miles out to sea, at high speed, but once it arrives and start survey operations, it could be operating at displacement speed or lower for up to 300 hours non-stop. The quad propeller design allows the vessel to operate at maximum efficiency in both modes of operation.”

The propulsion package includes two Caterpillar C32 ACERT 1600 bhp engines mated to two ZF 3055A transmissions and two C18 ACERT 553 bhp engines mated to two ZF 550V transmissions. ZF Marine also provided the shafting, bearings and custom propellers. The large engines are connected to 42-inch propellers and smaller engines to 33-inch propellers. The smaller C18 engines also feature shaft brakes. When the vessel arrives on site, the large engines are shut down and the vessel runs on the two smaller power packages that employ trolling valves. The trolling valves combined with SmartCommand’s AutoTroll functionality enables the crew to set exact vessel speeds, down to individual shaft rotations, reported ZF Marine.

  • The Future of Quad Propeller Propulsion

Since its delivery, the Sea Scout has been engaged in survey work updating NOAA nautical charts in the ship shoal area to the southwest of Fourchon, La. “We are interested to see how it will be operating in actual missions and in different types of sea conditions,” said de Waal. “We will be keeping close contact with the vessel’s operator to gain feedback.”

So far, Croft reports that “it’s doing very well. With three engines in each hull [counting gensets] the maintenance is a little higher than if you run single engines. Lots of oil and oil filters, but the fuel economy appears to be meeting expectations,” he said, although that statistical data was not available in time for this edition of MarineNews. Croft said the Sea Scout has demonstrated a maximum speed of 26 knots (light ship), and, he adds, “We can hit 24 knots with a full load any day of the week.”

Cruising speed is about 17 to 20 knots depending on the sea state and load. Croft reports a fuel burn rate on the C18's alone at a speed of five to six knots is about four to five gallons per hour.

Following the completion of the Sea Scout, some other vessel operators have expressed interest in how the quad propeller propulsion system might benefit their fleets. “Other typical examples which would benefit from this design are windfarm support vessels which have to travel out to the windfarm at high speed, but then travel slowly between the wind turbines for many hours while loading and offloading personnel and equipment. Coastal patrol vessels which loiter for many hours, but need the capability of high speed for interception, are also prime candidates for the design,” said de Waal. “There is probably no limit on how large a vessel the propulsion design can be applied to, but from a physical space point of view it would probably not be practical in boats smaller than 65-ft.”

“I think it is early days yet,” said de Waal, “but I expect significant interest once more information on the operation of the vessel becomes public.” All American Marine has reported several inquiries about the design from survey companies around the world. “We have been building quad engine/quad jet catamaran applications for years, but customers are intrigued by the potential of pairing of two different horsepower engines with propeller propulsion,” said Joe Hudspeth, Business Development Manager at All American Marine. Hudspeth said other applications for this propulsion system might include whale watching tour operators and high speed ferries that spend a significant amount of time transiting speed restricted harbors or low wake zones.

The design and engineering work performed on this system, as a start, represents a measured advance in propulsion technology in catamaran hulls. Only time will tell what kind of field performance data will be gathered from the Sea Scout, but another propulsion option is a welcome addition to the boat building world, especially given the many different kinds of vessels that now work the coastlines and the (increasingly) varied missions that they are called upon to accomplish. In that scenario, then, quad propeller propulsion might just be the ticket.

So much for ‘all-electric’ – Fiat 500e may come with a gas engine

Avatar for Jennifer Mossalgue

Stellantis-owned Fiat has had high hopes for its all-electric Fiat 500 , available in the US, but now a report says that the company may backtrack due to low demand and add an ICE version to the lineup.

Earlier this month, Fiat reportedly asked suppliers for quotes to bump up production of the 500e at Stellantis’s Miafiori factory in Turin, Italy, to 175,000 units a year from the 77,260 that were made last year, reports Automotive News Europe .

Turns out, of that total, 100,000 units would be ICE models, but all this was supposed to be very hush-hush since Fiat hasn’t formally decided on the move. News of the switch was first reported by   Il Corriere della Sera and then confirmed by Automotive News Europe .

This is strange, unexpected news, because it’s unusual to convert an EV to a gas engine, and the company already sells an ICE 500, built in Poland and a slightly smaller car that predates the 500e by more than a decade. And the 500e was expected to help push the company toward its emissions goals. Fiat has set the target of being an electric-only brand by 2030.

The argument is that adding in a gas model of the 500e to Mirafiori could smooth over union concerns about “declining volumes of the 500e” and help the company meet Italy’s goal of maintaining the country’s auto production at no fewer than 1 million cars per year, with Stellantis bearing the brunt of that demand being the only volume manufacturer in Italy. Fiat has already cut one of two shifts at Mirafiori last month due to slow sales, laying off some 2,250 workers, with more than half of those affected working on the 500e.

Of course, Fiat’s home turf of Italy has some of the lowest EV adoption rates in Europe,  at just 4% of the  market. But the far-right Italian government is  working to change that , by weighing a plan to invest €930 million ($1 billion) into some enticing financial incentives to nudge drivers toward electric cars. But this hasn’t happened yet, and some Italian shoppers may be waiting for those incentives to be put into action before making the switch – so the automaker enjoys so no home court advantage here .

Top comment by Michi Can

The issue is that the car costs too much for the range/size/specs/etc.

Who is gonna pay $32K for a 150mile range, and the car is tiny.

The way to lure people in would be to offer something unique. Like a convertible.

According to the report, we could see a mild-hybrid 500e – which would be powered by the same 1-liter, 70 hp FireFly gas engine used in Fiat’s Panda minicar , as soon as late 2025 or early 2026.

While Fiat was set to cut production of its current ICE 500 in Poland at the end of next month, that model would move to Fiat’s new Algerian factory, which has a capacity of 90,000 units a year. The model, which would not be compliant with European homologation rules, will be sold in the Middle East and Africa only, reports Automotive News Europe .

If the project is approved, it could take about 18 to 24 months to build the 500e to accept a gasoline engine. The outgoing ICE model currently starts at €17,700 in Italy, with the 500e starting at €29,950, so an ICE version of the 500e is expected to fill that gap.

Fiat is one of the most popular European brands, but Stellantis has had its work cut out for it with the recent launch of the Fiat 500e in the US , Stellantis’s first all-electric vehicle in the US market. The price tag starts at $32,500 plus a $1,595 destination fee, with not much of a solid reputation to back that up for Americans. The car is designed too for the upmarket, trendy urban driver who doesn’t mind the 149-mile range on that price. But of course, Fiat sold practically no cars in the US – a grand total of 605 cars. It sold so few cars in the US that it is now discontinuing the few models it had on offer and going on all in on the 500e. Photos: Fiat’s new 2024 500e (Source: Stellantis)

New Statement Cat And Center Consoles Slated For Miami Boat Show Debut

From the performance boat enthusiast perspective, the 2024 Miami International Boat Show set for February 14-18 probably seems a long way off. It’s only mid-October. The 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show doesn’t open until next Wednesday and the 2023 Florida Powerboat Club Key West Poker Run and Race World Offshore World Championship are still weeks away.

But talk to any boat builder in the go-fast realm introducing a new model at the event next year and he or she will tell you that the push—and the pressure to deliver by the time doors open at the Miami Beach Convention Center—is already on.

The first Statement 396 Cat will be an eight-seat open cockpit pleasure boat

Just ask marine industry veterans Randy Sweers and Nick Buis, who have been collaborating on a new Statement Marine catamaran they plan to unveil in Miami. Dubbed the 396 Statement Cat, the first outboard-engine-powered 39-footer currently is in lamination and will be complete in time for the annual South Beach event.

“It is going to be available in an eight-seat, open-cockpit pleasure version or a two- to five-seat canopied race/pleasure version,” said Sweers, who reportedly designed the cat with a team of naval engineers and architect using 3D CAD technology. “The hull has a 72-inch-wide tunnel.”

Statement also will offer its new 39-foot cat in a canopied race/pleasure format.

The Statement 396 Cat is one of three new models the Tampa, Fla.-based builder will debut in Miami. The company also plans to showcase its new 44-foot GTrs V-bottom center console and 43-foot Center Console Catamaran. The 44-footer rides on a “state-of-the-art” five-step hull.

Both boats will be powered by quad 500-hp outboards from Mercury Racing . All of the new models, as well as those within the company’s existing product line, will be available through Statement’s dealer network. Current dealers include Legend Marine Group in Texas, Iguana Marine Group , which has four locations in the Midwest, East Coast-based, multi-location Performance East and Arizona based Horizon Motorsports .

Buis and Sweers also are collaborating on another project to support the entire Statement line.

“In addition to all three Miami unveilings in February, Nick and I also are partnering on a new, 20,000-square-foot Statement Marine Group Warranty and Service Center,” Sweers said. “We plan on offering not just complete service but refitting and renovation, repowering and complete concierge services.”
