The MCA Master 200 is a progression from RYA Yachtmaster Offshore/Ocean qualification and is needed to work on crew transfer vessels where it is required to have MCA STCW qualification. The qualification allows Masters to take charge of a vessel up to 200gt. The Master 200 Certificate of Competence (CoC) can be limited or unlimited.

RYA Yachtmaster Ocean is a 200 ton licence with no limit on the distance offshore i.e unrestricted. This can then be commercially endorsed if you want to take paying passengers (requires first aid certification, SOLAS training, Health check and, soon, a theory paper on duties and responsibilities of a commercial skipper.
What Are the Requirements for a Master less than 200gt CoC?
There are 2 variants of the Master <200gt: 'Limited to 150 miles from safe haven' & 'Unlimited area'. If you hold the Yachtmaster Offshore CoC, you will get the limited Master <200gt CoC, if you hold the Yachtmaster Ocean CoC, you will get the unlimited Master <200gt CoC.
