Georgian Bay North Channel is a large northeastern extension of Lake Huron separated from Lake Huron by Manitoulin Island and by the Bruce Peninsula and forms part of the old voyageur’s trading route from Montreal to the northwest. Georgian Bay is also home of the world renowned 30,000 Islands, which harbour unlimited possibilities for sailing Georgian Bay, overnight anchorages, stretching from Parry Sound to Midland, Ontario.

At the South end of the Bay, there are hundreds of great anchorages within close proximity from our Charter Base. Most notably, Beausoleil Island, a National Park of Canada, has many secluded anchorages with sandy beaches and many miles of hiking trails to explore the Island and its wildlife. These near-by anchorages are ideal for Full-day, Half-day, Weekend, and Overnight charters.

The well marked Small Craft Channel meanders all around Georgian Bay providing thousands of protected places to anchor along its route. As an alternative to traversing the Small Craft Channel, guests can enjoy sailing Georgian Bay on its open waters making it an exhilarating experience.

Did you know Georgian Bay….

• Is truly a unique Canadian fresh water paradise often designated as the Sixth Great Lake. It is the most pristine of all the Great Lakes and supports biodiversity and importrant wetland habitat.
• Has two United Nations (UNESCO) designated Biosphere Reserves – the Bruce Peninsula and the 30,000 Islands which is the largest archipelago in the world.
• Is Canada’s only Fresh Water ECO Museum (the Georgian Bay Eco Museum). It covers 15,000 sq. km. and is home to three Canadian National Parks and sixteen Ontario Provincial Parks.

NORTH CHANNEL (MANITOULIN ISLAND):

The North Channel of Lake Huron encompasses the northern shores of Manitoulin Island to the southern shores of the mainland. It is recognized as a boater paradise by many boating magazines and boating elite, with over thousands of islands and countless secluded coves, bays and inlets. Towns, marinas and resorts dot the vast stretches of wilderness shoreline in one of the top five freshwater sailing areas of the world. This trip introduces guests to North Anmerica’s only fjord, Baie Finn, a ten-mile long fjord surrounded by solid white quartzite of the Cloche Mountain range that is one of the oldest ranges on the planet. It extends from Mt. McBean in the West, to Killarney Provincial Park in the East.

The Cloche Mountain range was once as high as the Rocky Mountains. Over millions of years of erosion, all the other rocks have weathered away thus exposing the solid white quartzite rock. One million years ago, the ice age, advancing and retreating four times over, scoured the quartzite peaks, stripping them of soil, grinding and scarring their surfaces, and leaving behind sand, gravel, and boulders.

The North Channel is also home of the world famous Benjamin Islands, where some of the oldest rocks on earth have been dated. The many islands of pink granite rocks combined with the cluster of the white quartz mountain range makes for breathtaking landscapes that inspired the Group of Seven painters.

Guests would need to book a minimum of a 7 to 10 day crewed charter in order to cover the time it takes to sail to the North Channel from our Charter Base at the Bay Port Yachting Centre in Midland, Ontario.  Alternatively, COSMOS Yacht Charters can arrange for your crewed charter to start and end in the North Channel (Killarney, Little Current, Gore Bay) depending on yacht availability. Advanced reservations are needed.

For our bareboat clients who want their charter to start and end in the North Channel, a yacht repositioning fee would apply.

YOUR GATEWAY TO THE BAY.

Leisure Bay has been providing excellent and affordable “no frills” marine services to Islanders since 1981. Our floating wooden docks and slips are stable and well maintained. Docking areas are located in a sheltered bay, away from all heavy boat traffic.

Nestled in a sheltered inland Bay, we are a short boat ride to the open deep waters of Georgian Bay with numerous shoals, marshy wetlands, channels and varying riparian zones along the way. Our accommodations are newly renovated, clean and comfortable.

The boat launch is concrete with plenty of room for getting your boat in and out. Our courtesy dock for pick up and delivery is conveniently located beside the boat launch. We have a large, cleared area for safe trailer parking and boat storage.

Our spacious main parking areas are level, well graded and gravelled. We offer a discounted daily rate to Guests of our Members. We offer a daily rate or weekend rates for those having a longer stay.

History is incredibly important around here. Many cottages and camps in Pointe au Baril have stayed in the same family for generations, often dating as far back as the early 1900’s. “Good food, nice atmosphere, a bit pricy for Georgian” Review of U Pirosmani

Nice, old-style unusual interior, sort of has the feel of eating in a nice, old house. It has a good view of the Novodevichy Monastery. Like many Georgian restaurants, there seems to be a lot of friends and family milling about. Someone was dining with their large dog who walked around greeting other customers. Also like many Georgian restaurants in Moscow, there was live music that may not be everyone's cup of tea. Prices are on the high side for Georgian food, but fair by overall Moscow standards. Food was good, but not overly impressive. House was wine was overpriced.

We were at the lake, watching the Novodevichi Convent and it started to rain very hard. U Pirosmani was the only shelter. We ran inside without even looking at what for a place it was. Once inside it was clear, a Georgian restaurant. The decoration was very Georgian, not kitsch but actually very cosy and welcoming. The waiter was very fast, nice and alert. He explained some about the dishes and was always around. The menu was quite extensive, with many Georgian but also the Russian dishes. Of Course they also had the famous cheese bread, khachapuri. We have stayed here for a long time, it was really pleasant to sit and eat here. And all this time we continued to enjoy the view of the Novodevichi convent.

The bread with cheese is worth the visit. One of the oldest private restaurant in Moscow, visited by many Intl celebrities. The view is excellent in a relatively quiet area of Moscow. Parking could be a pain though.

Georgian food and peaceful atmosphere for quiet talk and a nice break in the busy downtown life. Waiters are proud of themselves as all Georgian people but welcoming and friendly. Tasty Georgian bread Khachapuri, homemade national sweats and cakes. But you can order Ukrainian borscht as well.

This is a Georgian restaurant. Georgian cuisine is apparently different from Middle Eastern and Russian. The food was deliciious. Our Russian host ordered a selection of appetizers: chicken with walnut sauce, stuffed eggplant and peppers, pickled vegetables, fresh vegetables and herbs. We had a delicious noodle soup and grilled lamb chops. The Georgian red wine was excellent. The restaurant has a view of a park and a convent. The waitstaff seems to understand a speak English. The interior is decorated with art work, especially that of Mr. Pirosmani, a Georgian primitive painter. Also lots of pix of celebs eating there. The place has a real rustic Eastern European feel to it, the food is great, and the service attentive. I could not evaluate price because I was a guest at this meal.

Moscow's restaurant boom is making the city a diner's paradise, but my favorite remains what was always best here: Georgian. And Genazvale is the best place for it.

The restaurant is located in a pre-revolutionary neighborhood near the Kremlin. Avoid the kitschy VIP main section; head to the right-side entrance and get a table in a cozy back corner.

There — amid the rough-hewn log walls — load up on hors d'oeuvres: delicious eggplant with walnut paste, spicy kidney bean dishes called lobio , and the all-time classic, khachapuri , a cheese bread.

The best, most inspired of these cheese breads is the "boat," a specialty of the Georgian region of Ajaria. It comes topped with a raw egg and butter. Diners tear off pieces and dunk them in the middle.

Then move on to shashlyk kebabs — lamb, pork, sturgeon or any combination — with any number of sauces, including spicy tkemali plum sauce or a sweet pomegranate sauce called narsharab .

While Moscow's ban on the import of Georgian wine remains in effect, a nice Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon comes close to the robust, tannic kind that Georgia does well.

Go to Genazvale to eat seriously, often with your hands. I come with friends to sit for hours, poring over the latest scandals of Moscow life that have taken place since the last session.

Directions: Outside the Koropotkinskaya Metro entrance, locate the statue of Friedrich Engels opposite the massive Christ the Savior Cathedral. Ostozhenka Street begins behind Engels's right side. Genazvale is on the right side, several blocks down.
