PORTO ROTONDO

The Yacht Club Porto Rotondo was founded in 1985 by a group of people who were passionate about the sea and about Porto Rotondo and, right from its first year of operation, has been located in the beautiful larch-wood building created by the Venetian architect Malgaretto. The club, located only 20km from Olbia airport, is well versed in sporting and social events and, as in previous Rendezvous regattas, will be responsible for running the racing.

Oceanco Koru Superyacht

With a combined length of 2,929 feet, the world’s top 10 superyachts scheduled for delivery this year are moving away from the idea that yachting is about whose boat is bigger. The trend is now more about mission than size. This year’s launches will be wide ranging, from motoryachts to sailing vessels, explorers and even a giant sportfish.

The list includes offerings from German shipyard Lürssen , which has two 400-foot-plus yachts ready to splash this year, with noteworthy deliveries from other shipyards in Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands showcasing different definitions of design, power and performance.

Here are the yachts we can’t wait to see.

‘Koru’ (564 feet) Oceanco

yacht famosi sardegna 2023

Jeff Bezos’ first yacht, Koru , was spotted last week on sea trials. The Amazon founder chose to make a bold design statement by commissioning the world’s largest sailing yacht, not to mention the longest pleasure vessel, motor or sail, ever from The Netherlands. Built by Oceanco, the titanic sailing machine is an incredible 3300 GT, powered by kinetic energy generated by the sails. Besides its massive length, its classic canoe stern, a double-deck wooden coach house and navy hull with a red stripe differentiate Koru from any other vessel on the water. The project remains hush-hush. Even the designers remain a secret.

‘Liva’ (387 feet, 1 inch) Abeking & Rasmussen

yacht famosi sardegna 2023

Launched late last year and scheduled to be delivered in early 2023, Liva is the largest yacht built by Abeking to date, overtaking the German shipyard’s previous flagship Aviva by 65 feet. The French studio Joseph Dirand Architecture was commissioned to pen both the exterior and interior, which is reported to include a semi-submerged underwater observation room on the lower deck, a supersized pool, helipad, spa with sauna and beauty salon, and a lower-deck beach club.

‘Alchemy’ (216 feet, 5 inches) Rossinavi

yacht famosi sardegna 2023

Commissioned by a private American client, the 216-foot multi-deck motoryacht Alchemy is one of three yachts to be launched by Italian shipyard Rossinavi in 2023. Exterior design is by Philippe Briand, with interior styling by Enrico Gobbi’s Team for Design. Little information has yet to be revealed, though it’s visible from images that the custom yacht features an axe bow, drop-down side terraces at the stern and large floor-to-ceiling windows that afford views from all levels.

Project Jag (400 feet) Lürssen

yacht famosi sardegna 2023

The 400-foot displacement motoryacht known only as “Project Jag” is reported to be the owner’s third Lürssen. His most recent is Kismet . It is set for delivery in late 2023. Capable of sleeping 20 guests and 40 crew, the gigayacht is equipped with a helipad, spa, swimming pool, two cinemas, gym and storage for a sub. Italian design firm Nuvolari Lenard designed the steel yacht’s exterior, while UK studio Reymond Langton has crafted what is rumored to be a “bespoke homage to the owner’s lifestyle”—whatever that means.

Project Luminance (426 feet, 5 inches) Lürssen

yacht famosi sardegna 2023

Project Luminance is a 426.5-foot motor yacht that Lürssen claims will be one of the largest and most technologically advanced boats in the world. It’s also the largest yacht due to deliver in 2023. Construction began in 2018, yet few details have been revealed. What we do know is that the seventh-largest project to ever come out of the German shipyard to date features state-of-the-art propulsion systems, advanced navigation and communication systems, as well as next-generation entertainment.

‘T52’ (170 feet) Baglietto

yacht famosi sardegna 2023

The first model in Baglietto’s T52 line, which splashed in February 2023, features sleek lines and aerodynamic grills penned by Francesco Paszkowski Design. Power comes from a diesel-electric-hybrid propulsion system. The yacht celebrates outdoor space, including a large multi-level beach club at the stern with a fold-down transom, oversized sunbeds and a swimming pool with a floor that rises flush with the deck. Sliding windows on the upper deck convert space into an open-air sky lounge and a 78-foot sundeck with a glass-encased hot tub.

Project 406 (170 feet, 6 inches) Royal Huisman

yacht famosi sardegna 2023

The Dutch shipyard Royal Huisman made its name building some of the world’s largest sailing yachts, including 296-foot Athena , but now it’s hitting the record books again with the impending launch of Project 406 , the world’s largest sportsfisherman. Naval architecture, exterior and interior are by Dutch studio Vripack. The firm gave the six-decked aluminum yacht a towering profile promising spectacular front-row views of the big game fishing action. The team balanced its height by a long bow, high bulwarks and uncluttered fishing cockpit.

‘Black Shark’ (252 feet, 6 inches) Nobiskrug

yacht famosi sardegna 2023

Black Shark first began construction in 2019, but all work ceased when Nobiskrug later filed for insolvency. In March 2022, following the German shipyard’s acquisition by entrepreneur Lars Windhorst, work on Black Shark recommenced, with delivery set for 2023. The 252-foot boat, designed by Winch Design, gets its name from its predatory profile and mast shaped like a dorsal fin. A reverse bow, black matte hull and metallic silver superstructure will also help to enhance the marine connection.

‘Ultra G’ (196 feet, 8 inches) Heesen

yacht famosi sardegna 2023

Heesen is renowned for building fast boats, so it’s no surprise that Ultra G , equipped with a propulsion package totaling 22,000 horsepower, with four water jets and a top speed of 37 knots. The Dutch yard hailed this as its most powerful project to date. The motoryacht was commissioned by an avid sportfisherman, with a fighting chair and storage for 40 rods. Entertainment was also a big mandate for the design, stretching from Samsung’s “The Wall” screen, an infinity pool, and a dedicated self-cleaning “dog park” for furry guests.

‘Maverick’ (145 feet, 3 inches) Cantiere delle Marche

yacht famosi sardegna 2023

Maverick is the first Flexplorer 142 to soon be delivered by Cantiere delle Marche (CdM), bought by a young German who is a keen sailor and serial owner of both sailing boats and motoryachts. The owner’s itinerary will see him cruising the Mediterranean, before heading to the Northern latitudes to cross the Northwest Passage and put Hydro Tec’s bold exterior design and running surface to the test. Key features include a custom-built A-frame crane that sits flush on the deck when not in use, collapsible bulwarks that fold-down to reveal a 1,450-square-foot beach club, and an infinity pool at the transom.

Most Sardinia yacht charters begin in the popular superyacht marina of Porto Cervo in the north west of the island or nearby Porto Rotondo, a slightly quieter marina compared to its illustrious neighbor. After a short stay here, popular charter itineraries tend to make a beeline north to the beautiful Maddalena Islands where the yacht can spend a day or two in a pretty sheltered anchorage while you and your guests take to the Carribean-blue waters for a spot of diving and snorkeling.

From here, the world’s your oyster. Sardinia has numerous must-see destinations and you will be hard-pushed to fit them all in. From the lush archipelagos of the north to the wild, untamed beaches found in the south west of the island, and from the glamorous superyacht havens on the north east coast where you can indulge your every whim to the rich historical treasures found in the south, you’ll be spoiled for choice.

Another popular option is to set off from the Amalfi Coast on Italy’s mainland or Corsica in the north and then cruise down through the Bonifacio Strait. It’s simple enough to begin your superyacht vacation in a neighboring country before heading to Sardinia. For more advice please speak to your yacht charter broker .

Sample itineraries

Most yacht charters tend to finish in Porto Cervo or Porto Rotondo. As well as the vibrant superyacht lifestyle, these places also offer their own bevy of beautiful beaches and scenic beauty, making these the perfect spots to end your memorable Sardina luxury yacht charter. Alternatively, for longer charters you can finish up in one of the neighboring destinations mentioned above. Speak with your yacht charter broker who can advise you further.

With its A-lister appeal, rich cultural history and bevy of world-class beaches, Sardinia is one of the most popular destinations in the Mediterranean. Therefore, we advise you to book your yacht charter well in advance of your trip to secure your perfect yacht on your preferred dates. If you leave it too late, the selection of yachts at your disposal will be reduced and you may not be able to explore the destinations you have your heart set on. Plus, finding dates when everyone in your charter party is available can be tricky; the longer you leave it, the more challenging it will be.

High cliffs of Mediterranean coast,

Your yacht charter broker will also need plenty of time to tailor an itinerary to suit you, and enough time to book ahead for the nights you wish to spend in marinas. We recommend booking up to 3 months in advance to give your broker the optimum time to organize everything down to the last detail.

Sardinia Yacht Charter Q&A

Some important things to consider before booking your yacht;

  • Marinas tend to get quite busy during peak summer months, so you need to consider that when deciding on what night's you wish to spend in a slip. Ideally, find a yacht that is comfortable with ample leisure and entertainment facilities onboard.
  • Mistrals are quite common during the shoulder months of May and October, so check with your charter broker about the best anchorages and itineraries if you intend on traveling during these months.
  • You should also be aware that certain zones in Sardinia's waters are restricted to protect the sea grass, which may impact on where you anchor the yacht. This is something you can discuss with your yacht broker, or yacht captain when deciding on your itinerary.

Due to its popularity during the Mediterranean Season, there should be a wide selection of yachts to choose from, so there is sure to be something that suits both you and your budget.

Why not visit our yacht charter fleet page for a comprehensive look at all yachts available for charter around Sardinia .

Alternatively, you can reach out to your preferred yacht broker , who will be sure to help you find your perfect yacht and itinerary around the dates that suit both you and your guests.

The optimum time for yacht charters in Sardinia is between June and September, with average temperatures in the mid to high 20s, clear blue seas and endless days of glorious sunshine.

You should note that Sardinia's peak season is in July and August, so expect both higher charter fees and crowded marinas during these months.

Most Sardinia yacht charters begin in the glamorous superyacht marina of Porto Cervo in the north west of the island, with popular charter itineraries including the breathtaking Maddalena archipelago, the pretty sheltered anchorages and charming villages found along Sardinia's east coast  and the island's capital Cagliari, awash with historical treasures and rich cultural heritage.

The island is also renowned for its protected marine reserves and beautiful clear waters where snorkeling and diving are the favorite activities for yacht charters. where the yacht can spend a day or two in a pretty sheltered anchorage while you and your guests take to the Carribean-blue waters for a spot of diving and snorkeling.

Another option is to begin your yacht charter on Italy's west coast only a short hop across the Tyrrhenian Sea. Alternatively, charters can begin on the spellbindingly rugged island of Croatia in the north, separated only by a narrow strait famed for its sailing.

Once you have decided on your perfect yacht, your yacht broker will then draw up the necessary contract; a legally binding agreement between you and the owner of the yacht. At this point, based on the type of contract, you will be required to pay 50% of the cost of the yacht up front, with an additional 25-30% of this base rate to cover additional expenses you and your guests are expected to incur whilst on charter.

For more information about the costs of chartering a yacht, please read our helpful guide: Yacht Charter Costs Explained , which describes the fee structure in more detail.

From glitzy resorts and boutique designer shops to French sophistication and Italian cuisine, these two islands are true jewels in the Mediterranean Sea.

For those seeking a sun-soaked holiday, adventure, and a luxurious cruise in aquamarine waters, Corsica and Sardinia offer a cornucopia of spectacular coastline, shipwreck diving sites, and the dreamy archipelago of La Maddalena teeming with marine wildlife.

Why Charter a Yacht in Corsica and Sardinia

Boasting crystal clear waters, pastel cityscapes, beautiful beaches, fine wine, and rich heritage dating back to Roman times and beyond, Corsica and Sardinia are among Europe’s most prized sailing destinations.

Secluded coves, warm waters, and dramatic cliffs plunging into the sea create the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable vacation on a private luxury yacht.

The islands’ medieval port towns, glitzy marinas, exclusive resorts, and trendy restaurants add a layer of culture and sophistication, while the rugged wilderness inland and the rich marine life provide countless opportunities for adventure.

A Corsica and Sardinia Yacht charter is an excellent way to explore these Mediterranean slivers of paradise.

Here’s why:

Breathtaking Nature

Corsica and Sardinia are famed for their enchanting natural beauty, abundant marine life, and a touch of wilderness.

The French island of Corsica boasts a pristine coastline, crystal-clear waters lapping at golden beaches, rugged mountains, granite peaks, and fragrant wildflowers. Whether it’s exploring the island’s hiking trails or watching the sunset as you drop anchor in a secluded cove, a Corsica yacht charter holiday is filled with spectacular scenery and awe-inspiring landscapes.

Sardinia is a land of lush green forests, towering limestone cliffs, white dunes, turquoise lagoons, and hidden coves. The nearby Maddalena Archipelago is a natural park perfect for snorkeling and diving. With their incredible diversity and paradise beaches, the Italian islands offer yacht charter guests an adventure-filled experience in the Mediterranean.

Rich Heritage and Culture

When it comes to rich European heritage and a colorful tapestry of culture, Corsica and Sardinia, have few rivals. Roman, Moorish, Spanish, Genoese, Austrian, French, and Italian influences still echo in the islands’ beautiful architecture, ancient mountain villages, and colorful seaports.

A rich arts and music scene, Sardinian carnivals, and Corsica’s sophisticated galleries will inspire yacht charter guests looking for cultural experiences, while history buffs will enjoy the heritage of Bonaparte and Garibaldi along with timeless historic sites and landmarks.

Blending French and Italian cuisine, Corsica is a paradise destination for foodies. From the signature civet de sanglier dish of boar stew to delicious cheeses, grilled fish, and a variety of local wines, Corsica offers countless culinary adventures.

Sardinia, on the other hand, is all about hearty Italian ingredients with a Sardinian twist. Local delicacies range from snails sauteed in olive oil and garlic to pit-roasted meats and fresh lobster dishes accompanied by crisp and fruity Vermentino and Cannonau wines.

Corsica and Sardinia Yacht Charter Destinations

While Sardinia and Corsica are equally irresistible, the two islands offer different experiences.

A Corsica yacht charter is ideal for those seeking a combination of luxury, culture, and sun-drenched beach days. Sardinia, on the other hand, is tempting for wilderness and adventure lovers looking for unspoiled nature, spectacular scenery, and the best of Mediterranean cuisine.

Below, we list the most attractive Corsica and Sardinia yacht charter destinations to fit every unique taste:

An iconic luxury yacht destination in Europe, Corsica is an island of dramatic scenery, beautiful sandy beaches, unique heritage, and a flair for French sophistication.

Rugged and mountainous, Corsica rivals the French Riviera when it comes to scenery and joie de vivre alike: from striking granite rock formations, white sand, and turquoise blue sea to Michelin-star restaurants and a thriving art and music scene, Corsica is a quintessential Mediterranean destination.

Often called “The Scented Isle” due to the fragrant blossoms of the local maquis brush, Corsica boasts countless secluded coves, beautiful bays, and beaches resembling the best of the Caribbean.

Its rich history, gorgeous medieval towns and ports, and chic atmosphere make this French island a must-visit for charter yacht guests seeking a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural experiences. Corsica’s delicious cuisine is famed for its signature chestnut dishes and local wines.

The birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte himself, Corsica is popular among celebrities like Alicia Keys, who is frequently found lounging on a private luxury yacht. Its nightlife magnet, Porto-Vecchio, is where world-class DJs entertain the glitterati, while the nearby Palombaggia beach is ranked among the most beautiful in the world.

The Italian island - and the second-largest in the Mediterranean Sea - Sardinia is famous for its spectacular coastline, rich culture, and delicious cuisine.

The island’s aquamarine water bays, beautiful beaches, hidden coves, and wild dunes of Piscinas and Arenas Biancas create a striking landscape, while the otherworldly granite rock formations of Gallura resemble a shore of some strange, distant planet.

Adventure seekers will enjoy excellent windsurfing, kitesurfing, and kayaking in Sardinia. For history and culture buffs, Cagliari’s colorful facades, Roman Amphitheater, and the Royal Palace are a must, and the city’s Karalis port boasts a lively marina for charter yachts.

Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda is the island’s most glamorous stretch of shoreline on the West Coast. From the famous Cala di Volpe hotel, which was one of the James Bond movie locations, to Porto Rotondo, famous for its elegant shops, an upscale marina, and celebrity-owned mansions, Costa Smeralda exudes glamor and the essence of luxurious dolce far niente .

Porto Cervo, the unofficial capital of the Emerald Coast, is Italy’s most beloved playground of the rich and the famous, boasting a stunning marina, extravagant nightclubs, and designer shopping on Promenade du Port.

Maddalena Archipelago

Situated in the Strait of Bonifacio between Corsica and Sardinia, the Maddalena Archipelago offers a tranquil getaway into a protected paradise. The National Park of La Maddalena is made up of more than sixty islands and tiny islets, providing countless opportunities to swim, snorkel, and dive.

Renowned for its pristine beaches and coves, the Maddalena islands remain largely untouched by tourist crowds, and many of its bays and isles are only accessible by boat, making it an ideal luxury yacht charter destination.

The Caprera Island beach of Cala Coticcio has often been likened to Tahiti thanks to its bright, crystalline waters, while Spargi is an uninhabited island known for its sugar-fine white sand and ideal snorkeling grounds.

When to Charter a Yacht in Corsica and Sardinia: Weather

Corsica and Sardinia boast a warm Mediterranean climate, with the sailing season stretching from April to October. The summer months of June, July, and August are the high season; the shoulder months of May and September typically see sunny days and warm temperatures minus the peak crowds.

Luxury Charter Sailing in Sardinia

The coastal city of Olbia sits in northeast Sardinia and its balmy palm-lined waterfront is a beautiful marina to join luxury catamaran Agave. Olbia airport is a short taxi ride away, so if you arrive early there are plenty of cafes dotted through the beautiful medieval piazzas to explore. Agave can sleep 8 guests (7 if you want to include a wellness guide!) in spacious double ensuite cabins. Unlike some bareboat charter options in the Mediterranean, Agave comes fully crewed with skipper Vincent and his partner and host, Vallery.

When taking luxury catamaran for private skippered charter, the choice of where to sail can be discussed with skipper Vincent and decided alongside his local knowledge, guests wishes and of course the weather! One thing is for sure, luxury paradise sailing is certainly on the cards as you explore the stunning La Maddelena archipelago under sail.

Where the wind takes you…

Dine in the beautiful bay of Porto San Paolo, spend the night on anchor before an early start to explore the impressive neighbouring island of Tavolara. This touring limestone island is the perfect backdrop for your first meditation session on deck before spending some time exploring the island’s natural beauty.

Head north up the coast towards the famous Golfo Pevero. This traditional Sardinian harbour town has some unique dining experiences with some of the freshest seafood and traditional pasta dishes. Enjoy an early morning yoga session (optional!) on the beach before the tourists start to arrive and we retreat back to the tranquility of the boat and set the sails for the protected Maddalena archipelago.

La Maddalena archipelago

Known for its outstanding natural beauty and crystal clear waters, it’s often referred to as the Pearl of the Mediterranean. La Maddalena is a tranquil archipelago of outstanding natural beauty with turquoise lagoons, secret coves and deserted islands. Hundreds of quiet bays framed with limestone cliffs are home to some of Sardinia’s best beaches and some of the best clear water swimming you’ll find in the Mediterranean.

Spend some time here soaking in the natural landscape as you explore ashore by foot and enjoy the boat’s SUP’s on the water. Take a walk through the rugged terrain to discover the diverse flora and fauna of Caprera island reaching a breath-taking view point across the bay. After a day of exploring the islands, Agave will visit a sweet marina called Porto Pozzo which is known for its fresh fish and seafood restaurants, probably caught that very morning!  There are many picturesque bays to anchor in across the archipelago providing breath-taking backdrops for Agave’s wellness sailing.

Italy Sardinia Budelli Madallena archipelago

The infamous Strait of Bonifacio

The voyage itinerary will largely be dictated by when Agave can make the sailing across the Strait of Bonifacio. Skipper Vincent will know more about the wind forecast about a week before you join and what weather window will ensure the smoothest crossing. Visiting the harbour Bonifacio by boat has to be one of the highlights of this voyage and it’s tipped to be one of the most impressive marina entrances in the world. The stunning white limestone cliffs against the deep turquoise sea is a breath-taking sight.

Explore the island’s rich history, culture and natural beauty. Bonifacio is known for its medieval citadel, old town and picturesque beaches. Be prepared for some serious Game of Thrones vibes!

The island of Corsica is the fourth largest in the Mediterranean Sea, home to craggy peaks, dense forest and mountainous hiking trails. The south coast of the island makes for some fascinating sailing exploration with impressive rolling rock formations and idyllic smaller islands providing amazing snorkelling spots. Spend some time here exploring the coast, swimming and soaking in the natural landscape with some afternoon meditation sessions.
