I cannot say enough positive things about this fine company. I recently purchased a 2021 Hanse 388. As with any new yacht there are adjustments to be made and small items that need attention. The Seattle Yachts' Service department, located in Anacortes, Washington, is looking for experienced, hard-working people to join our team.

Below is a list of our current openings in Anacortes for immediate hire. Full-time, year-round employees will receive the following benefits: One week of PTO your first year, refreshed on your anniversary, health insurance after 30 days, sick time, 401k and 8 Paid Holidays per year! Our Service Yard workday hours are Monday through Friday, 8am-4:30pm, unless otherwise noted.

Under the direction of the Parts Manager, or as company policy dictates, sells marine parts, equipment, and services in marine parts store.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Maintains parts inventory by verifying supplies and placing orders when order-points are reached

- Completes sale by entering purchased items into management system; obtaining payment; adding purchase to credit account; issuing sales receipts.

- Receives returned items by inspecting items; returning payment; issuing credit; re-packing and re-shelving items; returning damaged items to supplier

- Post work order parts on work orders to correct job line before the service tech leaves the parts office

- Takes customer orders by phone or in person

- Coordinate with service department on any and all special-order parts to make sure parts are available for scheduled service dates.

- Advises customer on substitution or modification of part when replacement is not available

- Receives, marks, and stocks parts in stockroom or on floor according to prearranged system

- Reconciles cash drawer till with sales slips, and credit card charges

- Prepares items to be shipped

- Takes inventory of stock

- Adjusts inventory system recording incoming and outgoing parts into management system

- Reads catalogs, software, or internet for replacement part stock number and price

- Ensure parts area maintains a clean and professional atmosphere

- Maintains safe and secure environment by adhering to and enforcing safety standards and procedures

As a member of our Electronics Department, you are responsible for installing, adjusting, and maintaining electronics communication equipment, including sound, sonar, security, navigation, and surveillance systems on boats of all kinds. $20-30/hour DOE

Job Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with electrical equipment.
• Repair and maintenance of shipboard systems.
• Document repairs, modifications and inspections.
• Repair and maintain yard equipment.

As a member of our Fiberglass department, you must have a strong knowledge of mold making, lamination, lay-up, one - off parts manufacturing and general fiberglass repairs. Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to, repairing fiberglass cosmetic blemishes and major damages. In addition, taking responsibility, maintaining flexibility and safely performing multiple duties and tasks under stressful, potentially hazardous and fast-paced conditions while contributing to the success of the organization as a high-performing team member are all requirements to satisfactory meet your job expectations. $18-30/hour DOE

• Identify defects such as: cracks, blisters, stress fractures and cosmetic flaws.
• Estimate repair times, plan for materials, coordinate jobs with management
• Grind out defective areas, smooth rough edges/areas by using appropriate power or hand-tools.
• Prep fiberglass, resins, and damaged areas for repair.
• Shape and smooth edges to match contour properly.
• Mix Gel coat catalyst and spray or brush repaired surfaces; match colors.
• Buff and polish repaired surfaces.

Service writers ensure that a customer's needs are being fulfilled. Service writers possess product knowledge and bring efficiency to the relationship between a customer and the business. Working as a liaison for the business, an effective service writer brings competence to a customer's experience by coordinating the transaction.

Job duties for a service writer revolve around the needs of the customer. They develop relationships with customers through successful management of product or service delivery. Their duties can include tracking repairs and their causes, scheduling technicians and processing warranties. Customer profile information is stored in a computer system, which the service writer is responsible for maintaining.

Additional duties of a service writer involve developing cost estimates. When a customer requests a repair, the service writer works with the appropriate department(s) to determine how much time should be allocated to make the repair and schedule the appropriate technician for the job based on the customer and their repair needs. This information is conveyed to both the customer and the employer of the service writer in a timely fashion. $18-22/hour DOE

As a Member of our Paint Department, you'll work with painting equipment used in coating applications. Taking responsibility, maintaining flexibility and safely performing multiple duties and tasks under stressful or hazardous conditions will lead you to success in our fast-paced environment. $18-22/hour DOE

As a member of the Mechanic department, you are responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing boats of all kinds. Service and repair electrical and mechanical equipment on marine vessels. The role is to repair and maintain marine engines, restore motorized and electrical equipment on boat engines, winterize boats, determine problems with a vessel, and conduct general routine maintenance of vessels. $20-30/hour DOE

Spring blooms bright in Anacortes with festivals, recreation and culture

The residents of Fidalgo Island have oriented themselves toward the Salish Sea for millennia. The Coast Salish nations developed a sophisticated culture based on the salmon runs, abundant shellfish and other marine-based riches. The surrounding waters also supported more recent residents here, from the Mosquito Fleet that provided interisland travel to the salmon canneries that once lined the Guemes Channel waterfront.

And every spring, Anacortes honors this maritime history and unique geography with various public events and activities. The Anacortes Nautical Treasure Hunt rewards eagle-eyed individuals willing to get out and traipse around town with locally made, nautical-themed art. Watch a cavalcade of homemade and paper mâché animal, plant, and ecosystem-inspired costumes at the Procession of the Species in downtown Anacortes. And of course, whale watching and other wildlife-viewing activities resume with the changing of the seasons.

“While we’re fortunate to have a bridge to greater Skagit County,” says Zack Wright, “being an island community has created a history of dependence on the water and living with the sea.”

The Chair of the City of Anacortes Arts Commission, Wright works with community members throughout the year to create an engaging schedule of cultural events.

“Our events are designed to bring people together in spaces that otherwise wouldn’t have community,” he says. “There are fewer and fewer public gatherings that are centered around community over commerce, centered around participation rather than viewing. We’re helping to bring this idea of doing these things together and making things together, like the Procession of the Species.”

The Procession of the Species Anacortes – Forest to the Sea holds several artist-led workshops throughout the spring. The community is invited to gather and make animal masks, plant-themed headpieces and other artwork. PotS is one of several celebrations, including two parades and a street fair that honor Earth Day 2024 . Earth Day becomes “Earth Evening” during the first-annual Anacortes Luminary Light Parade come nightfall. As the sun lowers, downtown will be awash in the glow from handmade lanterns representing animals on the endangered species list and those with essential roles in the ecosystem.

“People will find dance, costumed performers and music along Commercial Avenue,” says Wright. “We invite visitors not just to come and view but participate. Make some art. Make a costume. Come and join in! Stay after to learn about Anacortes, Skagit County and the Salish Sea from various organizations that will be at the street fair.”

The Salish Sea School also schedules various Earth Day activities in addition to ongoing student and adult ecology programs. The environmental school offers bird ecotours and a sunset wildlife tour.

Earth Day is the first of several monthly festivals in and around Anacortes. Arts in Bloom, An Evening of Color combines visual art, music and food April 5 at the Arts Depot and Community Center. Arts in Bloom complements April’s Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.

In addition to festivals, spring invites the return to water-based recreation. Put in your kayaks from March Point or Washington Park for an afternoon paddle to Hat Island or Burrows Island. New to paddling? Anacortes Kayak Tours offers a variety of daily guided excursions. Boaters often sail to explore Guemes or Cypress Islands.

March also marks the beginning of the whale-watching season as Outer Island Expeditions head out in search of migrating grays and resident orcas, in addition to other marine mammals and bird species.

History buffs need look no further than the impressive W.T. Preston Steamboat to appreciate Anacortes’s role in Washington state’s maritime history. Part of the Maritime Heritage Center , the W.T. Preston was the last sternwheeler to work in Puget Sound. The snagboat removed logs and other navigational hazards from Puget Sound and its river tributaries.

The Anacortes Nautical Treasure Hunt also provides a fun opportunity to step directly into Fidalgo Island’s maritime culture. Prize balls are hidden throughout town every day from April 19-28. Treasure hunters who discover a prize ball can then exchange it for a nautically themed treasure — think ceramic sea stars and glass seashells created by a local artist.

Anacortes’ nautical culture also produces other delights, including a bevy of excellent restaurants offering Dungeness crab, salmon and other Pacific Northwest fare. Treasure seekers will find plenty of surprise maritime finds at the various independent shops that line Commercial Avenue.
