Founded in 1883, the American Yacht Club was originally a club entirely for steam yachts. In 1889 they held their first "sailing race", starting what would become a tradition of embracing sailors on Milton Point, including America's Cup defenders, Trans-Atlantic and Bermuda Race winners.

Much has changed in the 120 years since "robber baron", Jay Gould and a group of his friends founded the American Yacht Club in New York City. By 1887, clearly in need of a shore station, the club purchased "12 acres and some rocks known as Scotch Caps" from the Wainwright family at the tip of Milton Point in Rye, NY. The price was $6000 for what has become one of the outstanding locations on Long Island Sound.

In the beginning, all the boats enrolled in the club were steam yachts. However in 1889, the first American Yacht Club sailing race was held. In a "blow", 6 yachts completed a 20 mile course and established a tradition for what was to become one of the preeminent sailing clubs in the world. In the club's fleet have been America's Cup Defenders, Trans-Atlantic and Bermuda Race winners. Its sailors have been Long Island Sound, North American and World Champions in a number of classes. They have captured Olympic medals - most recently in 1996 when Courtenay Becker Dey took a bronze in the Europe class. Four AYC skippers have won the US Women's Sailing Championship.

Through the years, the American Yacht Club Annual Invitational Cruise has been a test of sailing, boats and seamanship, as well as a family competition and plain old fun afloat.

One of the defining moments in American Yacht Club's history, however, didn't take place on the water. On July 27, 1951 an electrical fire burned AYC's landmark clubhouse to the ground. Galvanized by the event and the leadership of then Commodore William Crow, the membership rallied to support the construction - in little more than a year - of the comfortable building that now commands the view of what has been called "that magical point".

The American Yacht Club, on Rye’s Milton Point, by its own description is “one of the most prestigious and historical private sailing clubs in America”. With that comes tradition that rarely, if ever, changes.

But this year, in the face of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the club had to hold its 137th Commissioning for members virtually. The ceremony, conducted by distanced club officers on picnic point, at the end of Milton Point overlooking the Scotch Caps and the Long Island Sound, was broadcast to members via video.

Attired in yachting jackets, AYC officers including 63rd Commodore Scott T. Florio and Fleet Captain Matthew B. Fahey oversaw a ceremony that included remembering members who passed in the last year, an invocation, the sounding of the cannon, the raising of the flags, the introduction of officers and the acknowledgement of service by past commodores.

In closing, 63rd Commodore Scott T. Florio said “the bar is open”. Virtually, of course.

However, the recent sale of Hart’s Bored Ape on Blur, a leading NFT exchange, for just 13.26 ether (approximately $46,200) starkly contrasts with its initial purchase price. NV obtains new photos and videos of the elimination of traitorous ex-MP Ilya Kyva near Moscow

Photos and videos of the elimination of pro-Russian ex-MP Ilya Kyva in a Moscow suburb were obtained by NV from sources in Ukraine’s SBU Security Service on Dec. 11.

This special operation was meticulously planned and successfully executed, the SBU informant confirmed.

In one imgae, Kyva's lifeless body can be seen in the snow surrounded by bloodstains. The location where “deserved punishment awaited the traitor” is near the place that Kyva filmed many anti-Ukrainian videos, sources say.

Kyva was a high-priority target, SBU said. His daily routines, movements, and habits were extensively studied in the operation. Despite strong security, the SBU managed to eliminate him just outside Moscow.

“This [Kyva’s elimination] serves as a signal to all traitors and military criminals who have sided with the enemy. Remember: Russia will not protect you. Death is the only prospect awaiting enemies of Ukraine,” SBU Chief Vasyl Malyuk said.

Ukraine’s SBU eliminated Kyva in a special operation in Moscow Oblast on Dec. 6, said NV sources in the intelligence service.

Kyva's “bloodied body”, discovered with a shot through the head, was found in the park of an elite club hotel in the Moscow region on Dec.6, Russian propaganda Telegram channels reported.

Kyva was shot with an unidentified firearm and died from the injuries on the scene, the Russian Investigative Committee claimed.

Kyva had fled to Spain ahead of Russia’s full-scale invasion. He then appeared in Russian propaganda broadcasts in Moscow, actively spreading lies about Ukraine. Kyva also sought “political asylum” and citizenship from the enemy aggressor.

The Ukrainian parliament stripped Kyva of his MP status in March 2022, charging him with treason. He was additionally charged with publicly calling for a violent change in the constitutional order and propaganda on behalf of the aggressor state in Aug. 2023.
