Video: First Look of Lürssen's 130m+ Superyacht DEEP BLUE

Emerging from her construction shed for the first time, onlookers reveled in the sight of the 130m+ Lurssen superyacht DEEP BLUE as she moved from the shipyard's Lemwerder facility.

Transported to a floating dock outside the Lurssen Aumund facility, DEEP BLUE was transferred to enable the attachment of her bow, with the previous construction shed simply not being long enough to accommodate her full LOA.

Anticipating a gross tonnage of around 9,000GT, first impressions of the Lurssen motor yacht indicate extensive exterior liveability with walk-around decks, a large infinity pool on the upper deck aft, plus potentially dual helipads on the foredeck and top deck aft.

Now set to undergo finishing stages, DEEP BLUE is not expected to emerge again until she embarks on her sea trials in the North Sea. It is not yet known whether she will become available for  luxury yacht charters .

130m Cobra and 40m EX40 superyacht concepts revealed

London based yacht designer Uros Pavasovic has revealed two new superyacht concepts; the 130m Cobra and 40m EX40.

The designs were revealed to mark the first anniversary of the studio, which was set up by Pavasovic following stints working for Terence Disdale and Winch Desig n on the designs of yachts including 99m Madame Gu , 90m Phoenix 2 and 85m Ace .

The larger of the two concepts, the 130m Cobra is described as a “work of creative indulgence” taking inspiration from military aircraft. This is especially seen in the forward superstructure, which is inspired by a “streamlined fighter jet canopy”.

If built, the hybrid yacht would also feature exposed jet engines used to power the generators on board.

Speaking about the design, Pavasovic said: “It pushes our understanding of design parameters, and yet is, in fact, buildable. It might look like science fiction, but it's not total fantasy. The only unreal element is that those engines would be loud.”

The smaller design EX40 is a fully custom design originally designed for a specific client who was after a refined and elegant explorer that would “stand the test of time”.

Accommodation on board is for a total of 12 guests in six cabins, comprising a main deck master with an office and option fold-down balcony, and five addition guest cabins on the lower deck. The owner has the option to convert one of these into a gym or spa if preferred.

The owner’s brief also called for two options for the beach club aft, one open and one closed.

“Both stern design proposals were conceived with the aim to preserve a delicate balance between privacy and unrestricted views of the sea,” Pavasovic said. “An open connection to the sea merged with privacy and shelter was central to the owner’s vision.”

Mayor claims drone intercepted near Moscow

Russian air defense units allegedly intercepted a drone over the city of Elektrostal in Moscow Oblast, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported in a Telegram post on Nov. 19.

Sobyanin claims the drone was heading towards central Moscow.

The Mayor also said emergency services were at work at the crash site but no casualties or damage to infrastructure have been reported.

The Kyiv Independent could not independently verify the reports.

Since the launch of Russia's full-scale invasion, Ukrainian forces have targeted Russian military, logistics, and infrastructure sites in the occupied territories and within Russia.

Today's drone report comes just hours after Ukraine's alleged drone attack was intercepted over the Bogorodskoye municipal district in Moscow Oblast.

While claims of Ukrainian attacks within Russian territory have increased since summer 2023, Kyiv rarely comments on these reports.

Porto Mirabello – Discover the sights, sounds and tastes of Tuscany and Liguria from the only Italian luxury marina for superyachts up to 130m

Porto Mirabello nestles in the Gulf of Poets, Liguria between San Remo and Viareggio, and is the perfect location for private and charter yachts in the Mediterranean who wish to experience the magic of Italy .

In June 2017 the number of moorings for vessels longer than 65m increased from 6 to 17 and this project will transform the marina into one of the biggest superyacht hubs in the Mediterranean.

Upon arrival, the Megayacht Quay and multiple new facilities are available for owners, guests and crew. Members receive state of the art entry badges to gain access through private security gates, there is technical staff available 24 hours a day to assist with docking and unmooring and there is no need for additional manoeuvring to refuel, this can be done directly from berth using the two high-capacity fuelling stations within the Megayacht Quay.

Another improvement is the opening of the Poet’s Lounge. A terrace with breath-taking views of The Gulf of Poets is available exclusively for those moored in the Megayacht Quay, offering a space to relax, enjoy the view and perhaps to indulge in a BBQ.

Linked by a foot bridge to La Spezia , Porto Mirabello is surrounded by forests, streams, hills and valleys, and close to plenty of charming medieval villages to explore, including iconic Porto Venere which is just two nautical miles away.

Porto Venere comprises of three villages, Fezzano, Le Grazie and Porto Venere, and three islands, Palmeria, Tino and Tinetto. Along with Cinque Terre , UNESCO declared the area a world heritage site in 1997. It’s a place to get lost in while appreciating the beautiful architecture of Doria Castle. Located on a rocky outcrop, the fortress was built in the 14th century and played an important role in the history of the Republic of Genoa. From the castle, you can enjoy incredible views of the sea and the ancient church of San Pietro.

Like all of Tuscany, the area should not only be admired but also tasted! The food is simple yet rich in flavour, as are the wines. A favourite local wine Sciacchetra has a golden yellow colour with amber hues and is made from grapes left to dry in the September sun.

Nearby Cinque Terre is made up of five charming villages – Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso. Each village has a personality of its own and is famed for a particular local product from lemons and honey to exquisite extra virgin olive oil and anchovies! There are 120km of trails through Cinque Terre, so make sure you allow enough time to explore!

Also, close by is the village of Tellaro, an ancient fishing village that can be reached by descending the sea paths along the natural terraces. Tellaro was recently declared the most charming village in Italy.

If you are looking to head out of Porto Mirabello for the day, visit the marina’s Concierge who will make all of the arrangements for a variety of experiences in and around La Spezia. Water based activities include kayaking, rafting, canoeing stream jumping, canyoning and river trekking. There is also plenty of mountain biking, supercar racing, golf, tennis, paintballing and orienteering to do on land. The Concierge promise to make sure no crew or guest has a chance of being bored in this unique part of Italy.

There is a bounty of sights to see, along with a plethora of cultural and sporting activities to do whilst you are moored in Porto Mirabello. Milan is just a 45 minutes helicopter ride away and the marina is perfectly placed as a home port in the Mediterranean for those who also wish to enjoy Monte Carlo , Corsica , Elba Island , Capri, the Amalfi coast , or wonderful Porto Cervo in Sardinia.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.
