On the southern edge of the Istrian peninsula, at the very end of the new highway you will find the quiet and relaxing Marina Puntica, Medulin. Right upon arrival, you will already feel you are on holiday...

A large Bay of Veruda is spreading out towards the south from the town, and this Bay has always been an ideal fishing port. Surrounded by the rich and still untouched Mediterranean vegetation, the Bay represented an ideal place for more and more demanding needs in tourism, that is why the new Marina was built up just here at this place: the door that opens for the whole Adriatic...

Here is a selection of luxury charter yachts in the Adriatic , please contact us here for more information on Adriatic Yacht Charter.

Adriatic is one of the most beautiful yacht charter locations in the world with numerous tourists visiting this beautiful place to get a first hand experience. Adriatic Sea is the northwest-to-southeast arm of the Mediterranean Sea with the Apennine Mountains and the Dinaric Alps surrounding the Adriatic region. The region shares its border on the west side with some other popular charter destinations, such as Italy and on the East side with Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro , Croatia and Albania. There are several important rivers that flow into the Adriatic Sea, such as Soc, Piave, Pò, Reno and Brenta.

In the past few years, Adriatic has become a prominent cruising destination. The Adriatic Sea provides the perfect conditions for luxury Adriatic yacht charter. The Adriatic Sea is quite vast with a total area of 60,000 square miles and an average depth of 240 meters. The shallowest regions are on the northern side and the deepest portion is on the western side. The deepest parts have an average depth of 1,460 metres.

Favorable Sea Conditions for Adriatic Yacht Hire

It is because of the above-mentioned depth and area factors plus a fantastic climate that Adriatic has a lot of luxury superyachts arriving from all over the globe. Adriatic’s natural beauty is still unspoiled and charter guests are always amazed at the sight of beautiful wonders of this place.

Adriatic is the perfect destination for a charter vacation with your spouse or the entire family. The Adriatic luxury yacht hire leaves from the surrounding areas, including Croatia yacht charter and then it continues to be a delightful 7-10 days journey (depending on the Adriatic yacht charter option chosen). There is a number of stunning luxury charter superyachts available, may it be a beautiful classic sailing yacht or a fast and contemporary motor yacht, all with luxury amenities and exceptional comfort on board. The options are endless!

Luxury Adriatic Yacht Services

Staying on an Adriatic yacht charter is almost incomparable to any other experience. All of our yachts’ cabins are luxuriously outfitted and are very comfortable. Great attention is paid to every detail in order to ensure a complete satisfaction of charter guests. There are several luxury motor yachts as well as sailing yachts available for charter in the Adriatic with different layout options. The luxury superyachts offer elegant cabins (some of them with private balconies), excellent interior exterior flow and unparalleled views of this beautiful charter location. One of the most popular routes for yachts is to follow the Dalmatian Coast and visit the most popular tourist destinations as well as discover new places.

Everyday your Adriatic superyacht will drop anchor at a beautiful place with historic landmarks. You can take guided tours of the region and marvel at the cultural attractions of the region. Some good scenic places are along the Makarska Riviera and the medieval town of Dubrovnik .

Croatia Adriatic Yacht Vacation

The Croatian side of the Adriatic Sea is one of the major Adriatic yacht charter destinations. This region is known for its pristine beaches and large bays and it offers one of the most exciting Adriatic yacht hire vacations. It is also the most suitable transit point for people coming for yacht vacations from all over Europe . From here you can go to various yacht charter destinations across Europe . The Croatian region is known as the Eldorado of the Adriatic Sea. It serves as an idyllic yacht charter place with pristine coastlines that you will never tire to see from your super yacht cabin.

If you are interested in a luxury yacht holiday in Europe, Adriatic is one of the most beautiful charter destinations to visit. Historically rich and exotic places, such as Split , Rijeka, Rovinj , Mljet or  Trieste  are only some of the most beautiful places to include in your Adriatic charter vacation itinerary. Guests love the northern side of the Adriatic region as the shallow depths of the sea promote activities such as snorkeling, swimming in the crystal blue waters and scuba diving. At some points, the average depth is not more than 45 meters. With the great diversity and tourist attractions it has to offer, even the most conservative superyacht charterer will love Adriatic.

Split Luxury Yacht Charter: Explore the Heart of the Adriatic

adriatic yacht charter croatia

With Split Luxury Yacht Charter Guide we are taking you to the serene islands of the Split Archipelago, like Biševo with its famous Blue Cave, southern shores of Vis, Pakleni islands and Hvar

Split, as well as the entire Adriatic coast, is blessed by the mild Mediterranean climate, which means a lot of sun and heat, especially in the summer months, and very few cold and rainy days. Although there is a whole range of things you can do in Split throughout the year, such as the obligatory walk through the UNESCO-protected Diocletian’s Palace, if you love hubbub, parties and concerts, this enchanting city should definitely visit in the heart of the season.

Climate and ideal time to visit Split

split town croatia Diocletian palace

In July and August, all of Split seems to be dressed summer dresses, just in time for the world-famous Ultra Europe festival (July 8-10, 2022). On the other hand, those who are into more romantic experiences will surely be delighted by the spring face of Split and the surrounding islands, which seem to wake up around Easter, as do most travel agencies, cafes and restaurants , opening their doors and welcoming first visitors.

Featured Yachts

However, it should be emphasized that for many September, and more often October, are the most desirable part of the year to visit Croatia and Split, as in pre- and post-season there are no crowds, prices are lower, and weather and sea temperatures are still pleasant for all sea-related activities.

Throughout this summer half of the year, an extremely large number of visitors decide to charter a yacht in Split because the Split area is one of the top charter destinations in Croatia .

Marinas and berths in Split archipelago

Split yacht charter is extremely popular because of the many magical surrounding destinations, but also because some of the most beautiful Croatian marinas are located in this part of the Adriatic.

ACI marina Split

split luxury yacht charter guide aci marina

The city of Split is dotted with many small, local marinas, but with 320 berths by far the most visited is ACI Marina Split (+385 (0) 98 398 850) which offers much-needed parking sports for yacht owners. In case you are looking for parking in and around ACI Marina Split, first look inside the marina.

One very attractive anchoring spot near Split is the Blue Lagoon, which is located between Veliki and Mali Krknjaš, and the much larger Veli Drvenik.

Marina Martinis Marchi

ACI marina Milna

On the island of Brač , the largest nautical center is the deep Milna cove with three marinas: ACI marina Milna (+385 (0) 98 398 851) with 170 berths, Yacht club Milna (+385 (0) 91 400 04 87) with 45 berths and Marina Vlaška (+385 (0) 99 244 7410) with 70 berths. Apart from Milna, the nearby Brač Yachting Anchorage Bobovišća (+385 (0) 91 500 1619) is also becoming increasingly popular, where you can book your place on the buoy in advance.

ACI marina Palmižana

aci marina palmizana hvar charter

Pakleni islands off the coast of Hvar seem to have been created for anchoring, as was the nearby ACI Marina Palmižana (+385 (0) 21 744 995) with 180 berths. The nearby Vinogradišće cove offers the possibility of buoy berths (concessionaire Đenko Meneghello +385 (0) 91 171 82 42), and in addition to providing protection from almost all winds except the south, is locally famous for a spectacular number of excellent restaurants to visit by boat .

Anchorages on Vis island

If you are aiming towards Vis, make sure to stop at Budikovac, beloved for its turquoise lagoon whose depth rarely exceeds 2 meters. One of everyone’s favorite coves on the island is Stončica, where buoys have been set up to welcome yachts, and the same concessionaire (Gradina Vis +385 (0) 21 711 121) offers buoys in the town of Vis, where boaters have 100 berths at their disposal.

Budikovac island Vis Luxury Yacht Charter Guide

In Komiža, 30 boats can be moored on the waterfront (SDZ Port Authority +385 (0) 21 339 825), and 60 buoys have been set up in Komiža Bay (Komiža Nautical Center +385 (0) 21 713 215). Contact the Komiža Nautical Center if you decide to visit the Mezoporat cove on the island of Biševo, where 20 buoys have also been set up.

Yachting routes that pass through the Split waters are by far the most popular on the Adriatic due to the magnetic attraction of this part of the Croatian Adriatic and the fabulous pearl-like islands that surround this city – Hvar , Pakleni islands, southern coast of Vis, Blue Cave on the island of Biševo. Gather your crew, opt for Split luxury yacht charter and direct your bow to the south.

Island of Brač

Along the way, many boaters want to swerve a little toward the island of Brač and the deep Milna cove, whose Italian name valle di mille navi is due to its legendary depth and the ability to host a thousand ships. Those who want to experience the local atmosphere of a small island town can spend their first night in Bobovišće cove where most boats moor, while lovers of calm, picturesque nature can sail to the southern shores of this stunning island.

Island of Šolta

island of solta croatia

If your cruise hasn’t started in Šolta, make sure you visit the island as the icing on the cake of your Split yacht charter. This island has similar yachting attributes as the neighboring Brač, but is much smaller and isolated. On island of Šolta , the most desirable destination among boaters is Maslinica, an authentic fishing village that today shines with new splendor and is the proud home of the most beautiful Croatian boutique marina Martinis Marchi .

We also warmly recommend a visit to the picturesque town of Stomorska or the turquoise southern coves that maintain a certain wild feeling to them and are ideal for all fans of intimate lovers of more mysterious moments.

Hvar and Pakleni Islands

town hvar yacht charter

Many boaters who opt for an early check-in during their Split yacht charter immediately decide to cover about twenty-five miles and conquer Pakleni islands, and spend time exploring this enchanting archipelago counting 21 islands, islets and cliffs. Pakleni islands – which sounds like hell islands in Croatian – do not justify their name and are actually as peaceful as you can imagine, seeing how they are actually named after a wood resin – paklina – found around here.

The largest island in this archipelago is St. Clement, and with no southerly wind all of its southern coves are true oases of beauty and pleasure. Stretching west to east, the spacious Soline, the turquoise Taršće, the slightly smaller Stari Stani and the most popular Vinogradišće coves lure with their charms.

On this list is also the too popular Stipanska cove on the islet of Marinkovac, whose vibrant and loud nightlife might not be everyone’s cup of tea. In any case, St. Clement is serene, criss-crossed with trekking paths that connect all its bays and are a great opportunity for an hour or two spent in nature.

hvar pakleni islands croatia boat charter

Should you want a stronger ‘connection’ to the land, either due to unfavorable weather conditions or just in case, ACI Marina Palmižana and the northern shores of St. Clement are only a few miles away, and the mesmerizing beauties of Hvar are at your fingertips.

You can stay in this micro area of Hvar for several days, just like many local families have been doing for decades, but it would be a real shame no to go farther and get to know the entire island.

Vis and beautiful beaches

The southeastern side of Vis and a range of incredibly beautiful islands are only a dozen nautical miles away. We suggest that you first drop your anchor in Stončica, a sandy cove with turquoise water, and take a walk to the nearby lighthouse, among the beautiful in the Adriatic. In its immediate vicinity to the east lies Smokova cove, where even in the high season there aren’t too many boats, and which is known as an ideal destination for playing picigin, a highly addictive local ball game.

Later, you can visit the other sandy haven on the island – the nearby Zaglav cove, where you can indulge in a dive among the many fan mussels, allow yourself to be charmed by the surrounding turquoise or bask in the sun lying on the fine sand that this uninhabited cove is famous for. Right around the corner lies the town of Rukavac, whose northern side is covered in rocky shores, and whose much gentler southern side is a haven with white pebble beaches, like the beloved Tepluš beach. Both sides are suitable for anchoring (in the absence of southerlies) and are separated by a stone pier suitable for docking for vessels with shallow draft.

In case the weather forecast is favorable, spend the night in the turquoise lagoon that mourns the island of Budikovac. This island is a unique microcosm that doesn’t lose its peculiar character even at the peak of the yachting season. A local celebrity Andro Slavić lives in Budikovac all year round, where he has a real small ranch and a uniquely imaginative restaurant.

The next day, as soon as the sun approaches its zenith, let the magical colors of the Green Cave on the neighboring island of Ravnik spill over you. After that, visit another island delight – Srebrna beach, whose name – silver – is a misnomer, as the this cove boasts the most beautiful white pebble beach.

Sailing along the southern shores of Vis in the direction of sunset, you’ll find it hard to choose where to drop your anchor. Ruda cove lures with its almost Caribbean shades of blue, Mala and Vela Travna with imaginative configurations of rocky shores and silky miniature pebble bottoms, and the famous Stiniva is a true masterpiece of Mother Nature. This ‘cove in a cove’ is reminiscent of an exclusive pool, open 24/7 for the lucky ones.

Town Komiza Vis Luxury Yacht Charter Guide

Spend the night in the picturesque fishing village of Komiža if the sky is not frowning from the west, which is usually a sign of bad weather. Drop your anchor at the waterfront or tie your vessel to one of the many buoys, but wherever you stay, make sure you leave Komiža exactly as you found it.

Visit local beaches around Komiža, walk to the most impressive symbol of the town – the church of St. Nicholas, and if you want a unique adventure, rent a bike and conquer the steep, steep road to one of the most spectacular Adriatic lookouts, from where you’ll be able to chose where to turn your bow next. Vis luxury yacht charter is a ideal mixture of magical beaches, pristine nature and delicious local cuisine.

Biševo and Blue cave

biševo island split luxury yacht charter

You can complete your cruise with a visit to the magical Biševo island and the beautiful Blue Cave. A visit to this island some 40 miles toward the open sea almost always remains imprinted into the visitors’ minds ss one of the most beautiful memories from their Split yacht charter, which is why this very special, almost zen destination, deserves a special full-length feature.

One of the best in Croatia. Split is the largest city on the Croatian Adriatic Coast and a favourite starting point for many sailors, the main reason being its central location. This makes it an excellent base for exploring, especially the Dalmatian islands of Brač, Šolta, Hvar and Vis, but also Korčula, Pelješac and Lastovo to the south or the unique Šibenik-Kornati archipelago to the north.

With Yachts Croatia, you can charter a variety of yachts from Split, bareboat or crewed, ranging from the 10 meter motor boats like Antares 36 and popular catamarans like Sunreef 50 to over 40 meter long luxury yachts like Benetti and luxury sailing yachts like Clase Azul.

There are many things to consider when chartering a yacht, and the size of a yacht is the key factor impacting the price. In our charter section you can find motor and sailing boats, catamarans, luxury sailing yachts and luxury yachts. Through Yachts Croatia listings, a charter vacation on a yacht can range from a minimum of €16,000 per week (22 metre yacht Glorious) to a maximum of €210,000 per week (40 metre yacht Happy Me). The basic price of renting a luxury yacht includes the hire of the yacht, yacht’s insurance and crew service.

10 things to do on a yacht charter during the Dubrovnik Summer Festival

Dalmatia Region

This is one of the most popular regions for yacht charters in Croatia. Located on the southern coast, its made up of 233 miles of coastline, islands, and reefs, and includes the must-see historic towns of Split and Dubrovnik , as well as hundreds of stunning verdant islands and national parks.

Croatia's second-largest city – its "crown jewel',  Split  has a history dating back to the 4th century. It is also home to the beautiful Roman  Diocletian's Palace , a top recommended destination for your tour.

Split also boasts some of Croatia's largest marinas, and is within shooting distance of the celebrated islands of Korčula , Hvar , Vis, and Brač . Visit the world-famous Zlatni Rat beach on Brač's southern side, or sample the vibrant nightlife and clubbing scene on Hvar, which also plays host to several regattas over the summer season. Further south is  Dubrovnik,  a UNESCO World Heritage site of huge architectural prominence.

Istria Region

Located in the north of Croatia, this region has a distinctly Italian feel to it, and has plenty of fantastic places to visit. Pula, the region's capital, is crammed with museums, which isn't surprising given its history that dates back to 3,000BC.

Across the water, lies the Brijuni National Park , a group of 14 small picturesque islands easily accesible from the mainland. Slightly to the north, the beautiful old fishing port of Rovinj is also well-worth a visit, with its steep cobbled streets and charming piazzas.

Travel south to historic Zadar , where you can enjoy a quiet walk along marbled streets and pine-scented beaches. Further south you will find the Kornati archipelago , a group of 100 or so relatively barren islands and reefs which are perfect for swimming and snorkelling.

  • Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn) - located on the southern coast of Brač, regularly listed as one of the top beaches in Europe.
  • Blue Grotto, Bisevo - situated in the central Dalmatian archipelago, this waterlogged sea cave has an intriguing glowing blue light that appears at certain times of the day.
  • Pula Arena - one of the world’s six largest Roman amphitheatres, and certainly it’s most well-preserved.
  • Visovac Monastery - situated on a tiny island in the Krka National Park.
  • Mljet National Park tour - takes guests to the area of the first protected ecosystem in the Adriatic.

Avid island-hoppers seeking solitude love a Croatia yacht charter itinerary. Of approximately 1,185 islands just 66 are inhabited, making the unfettered beauty of its isles, inlets and bays ripe for exploration. Among these wonderful islands to explore are the verdant gems of  Hvar , Vis, Korčula , and Brač.

But yacht rentals in Croatia are also ideal for guests seeking impressive designer shopping, exquisite wineries and glittering nightlife in its main cities.

adriatic yacht charter croatia

Culminating from Illyrian, Roman, Venetian, Christian, and Austrian empires all competing for Croatia’s ownership, Croatia is home to an astoundingly rich cultural heritage. This makes for a fabulous yacht charter: from the Venetian palaces and designer boutiques of the jet-set haven of Hvar; to the Benedictine beauty of the UNESCO-listed walled city of Dubrovnik; to the Italian infused architecture and cosmopolitan ambiance of Pula and beyond.

As one of the most popular destinations for yacht charters in the East Mediterranean , there should be plenty to choose from when it comes to luxury yachts for charter in Croatia. If you’re unsure about whether you want to book a motor yacht or a sailing yacht for your Croatian getaway, there are a few things you should consider first.

close up of luxury yacht charter in Croatia

Motor Yacht Charters in Croatia

Whether you are interested in a small or large motor yacht, or somewhere in between, you should find a Croatia luxury charter that will more than meet your expectations. With a luxury motor yacht you can truly relax; soaking up the stunning scenery, or scuba diving reefs and wrecks under clear aqua waters, or taking a tender ashore to explore ancient Roman palaces and monasteries, as well as sampling the local cuisine and wines.

You should note that berth/slip options in Croatia for larger yachts (over 50m) are limited, however, with plenty of safe and tranquil anchorage spots to choose from amongst the numerous islands, islets, and reefs around this Adriatic hotspot you will be spoilt for choice.

Sailing Yacht Charters in Croatia

The Adriatic enjoys an average of 315 cloudless days a year, and with winds in Croatia generally around 10-20 knots, this can make chartering a sailing yacht a great option to explore the picturesque islands and secluded beaches at your leisure. The winds do tend to get stronger in the fall, so bear this in mind when booking your charter.

There should be ample sailing yachts, gulets (traditional wooden yachts), and catamarans for charter in Croatia, but we do recommend booking early to secure your perfect yacht and desired itinerary.

Gulet Charters in Croatia

Gulets are traditional wooden boats originating from Turkey , but are now widely available throughout Croatia and Greece . These types of boats offer a fantastic and cost-effective alternative to a luxury charter yacht, for those wishing to spend a bit less but still enjoy a fabulous yacht charter in the Mediterranean .

With so many options available, there’s something to suit every type of budget in Croatia. The average prices for motor yacht and sailing yacht charters in Croatia are as follows;

  • For motor yacht rentals in Croatia, prices can range from $32,000 to $1,8m per week plus expenses
  • For luxury sailing yacht rentals in Croatia, prices can go from $32,363 to $582,882 weekly plus expenses

Child playing in the sea during a yacht charter in Croatia

The optimal times for yacht charters in Croatia’s sapphire-hued waters span from May till October. During this time, you can benefit from calmer seas, reliably clement weather, and warm swimming temperatures. Croatia’s peak season is July and August, so expect both higher charter fees and packed marinas in these months.

There are a variety of options, although most yachts charters tend to begin in Dubrovnik or Split in the Dalmatia region, both of which have major international transport links. Another popular option is to set off from Italy or Montenegro and then cruise the Adriatic down towards the Kornati a rchipelago or along the Dalmatia region – encompassing 233 miles of coastline stretching from Krk to Lastovo .

Croatia has numerous must-see destinations and you will be hard-pushed to fit them all in. For itineraries along the southern Dalmatian coast, some yachts may spend a day in port in Dubrovnik – ‘the pearl of the Adriatic’ – before setting off for the picturesque surrounding archipelagos, which include the popular island destinations of Hvar , Mljet, Vis, and Brač . You can either finish your yacht charter back in Dubrovnik or continue on to finish up in Split – the cultural and economic center of Dalmatia.

For yacht charters in the north of Croatia, many like to begin in Venice or Bari, located in Italy’s Puglia (or Apulia) region, before crossing the Adriatic to Croatia's Istria region. From here you can explore the popular island of Pula , with its world-class Roman amphitheater, before cruising down towards Zadar and the Kornati National Park .

Alternatively, you can begin in Porto Montenegro – only an hour’s drive from Dubrovnik – although you may have to cover the cost of repositioning as many luxury charter yachts in Croatia are based in Split.

It’s simple enough to begin your superyacht vacation in a neighboring country before heading to Croatia. For more advice please speak to your yacht charter broker .

sample itineraries

We recommend finishing your luxury charter in Split, Croatia's second-largest city and one of the most popular superyacht hotspots on the Adriatic. Renowned for its pristine beaches and crystalline waters, plus with a vibrant mix of things to see and do, you'll be in for a treat.

Glittering blue marina in Croatia

There are hundreds of harbors, marinas, and ports in Croatia, so whether stopping off in Dubrovnik or sailing to the far side of the Lastovo Archipelago National Park there are sure to be facilities or an anchorage to suit your needs.

There are 56 official marinas along the Croatian coast from Umag to Dubrovnik. Some of out top picks include;

  • ACI Marina Dubrovnik – located within a short distance to Dubrovnik’s historic old town. It has 380 slips and can accommodate yachts up to 60m/196ft. For larger yachts, or yachts not requiring a slip, another popular option is to utilize the international cruise ship terminal quay, which is happy to facilitate yacht charter pick-ups and drop-offs.
  • ACI Marina Korčula – ideal for a stop off at one of the many island destinations on your yacht charter, we recommend this sheltered marine, which accommodates yachts up to a maximum LOA of 40m/131ft.
  • Lumbarda Marina – also on Korčula this marina has slips catering to yachts up to a max length of 25m/82ft.
  • ACI Marina Vrboska – located in the celebrated islnad of Hvar, this marina offers berths for yachts up to a max length of 30m/98ft.
  • Cavtat Marina – If you're struggling to find a slip in the summer, we recommend this marina, which is located to the south of Dubrovnik and enjoys good shelter from all winds. It offers 119 slips for yachts up to a max LOA of 60m/197ft.

Some of the best ports in Croatia are also located in the Istria region in northern Croatia. We recommend;

  • D-Marin Dalmacija – located a few kilometers south of the ancient city of Zadar, which is the largest marina in Croatia with 1,200 berths and can accommodate yachts up to 80m LOA.
  • ACI Marina Rovinj – catering for yachts with a LOA of up to 25m/82ft
  • Marina Funtana – max length 20m/65ft.

For larger berths in the Split-Dalmatia region:

  • ACI Marina Split –  located in the heart of Croatia's "jewel" this marina has recently been modernised, offering great shopping, dining, fuelling and repair services to name but a few, alongside 318 protected berths that can accommodate superyachts up to 90m LOA.
  • Marina Kastela – just 7km up the coast from Split – which can accommodate superyachts of up 150m/492ft in length, with a draft of 8m.
  • D-Marin Mandalina – located in the city of Šibenik, situated between two National Parks within a protected lagoon, this marina boasts 429 slips, and has also been specially developed to accommodate yachts of up to 140m/459ft LOA.

Dubrovnik's glittering blue waters and old port

With its rich cultural and architectural history, along with lush national parks and secluded beaches, Croatia is fast becoming one of our most popular destinations. Therefore, we advise you to book your yacht charter well in advance of your trip to secure your perfect yacht on your preferred dates.

If you leave it too late, the selection of yachts at your disposal will be reduced and you may not be able to explore the destinations you have your heart set on. Plus, finding dates when everyone in your charter party is available can be tricky; the longer you leave it, the more challenging it will be.

Your yacht charter broker will also need plenty of time to tailor an itinerary to suit you, and enough time to book ahead for the nights you wish to spend in marinas. We recommend booking up to 3 months in advance to give your broker the optimum time to organise everything down to the last detail.

Croatia Yacht Charter Q&A

Some important things to consider before booking your yacht;

  • Yachts tend to spend more time at anchor in Croatia, so you need to consider that when choosing your perfect yacht. Ideally, find a yacht that is comfortable with ample leisure and entertainment facilities onboard.
  • Avoid heading into Dubrovnik when the big cruise ships are in town, these vessels can hold some 3,000 passengers and the town can become uncomfortably crowded.
  • You should also be aware that certain zones in Croatia's waters forbid fishing or diving, or require special permissions to do so. This is something you can discuss with your yacht broker, or yacht captain when deciding on your itinerary.

There should be a wide selection of yachts to choose from, so there is sure to be something that suits both you and your budget.

Croatian Gulets, traditional wooden yachts with wide beams that offer spacious deck areas and generous accommodation, are a fantastic and cost-effective alternative to a luxury charter yacht. Gulets are available to charter for around €13,500-€15,000 per week, which usually includes food and up to 4 hours cruising per day.

Gulets are also perfect for family charters, or those who simply enjoy spending their time out on deck soaking up the beautiful surroundings of this stunning region.

Why not visit our yacht charter fleet page for a comprehensive look at all yachts available for charter around Croatia.

Alternatively, you can reach out to your preferred yacht broker , who will be sure to help you find your perfect yacht and itinerary around the dates that suit both you and your guests.

The perfect time for yacht charters in Croatia is between May to October, with average temperatures in the mid to high 20s, calm sapphire seas and endless days of glorious sunshine.

You should note that Croatia's peak season is in July and August, so expect both higher charter fees and crowded marinas during these months.

Most charters tend to begin in the beautiful historic towns of Dubrovnik or Split before continuing on to the celebrated islands of Hvar, Mljet, Vis and Brač. Alternatively, you can begin in Montenegro in the south, but you should note there may be additional re-positioning fees to pay as most yachts are based out of Split.

Another option is to begin your yacht charter in Venice, Italy then cross the Adriatic to Croatia's breathtaking northern region before cruising down the coast to Zadar or Split.

Once you have decided on your perfect yacht, your yacht broker will then draw up the necessary contract; a legally binding agreement between you and the owner of the yacht. At this point, based on the type of contract, you will be required to pay 50% of the cost of the yacht up front, with an additional 25-30% of this base rate to cover additional expenses you and your guests are expected to incur whilst on charter.

For more information about the costs of chartering a yacht, please read our helpful guide:  Yacht Charter Costs Explained , which describes the fee structure in more detail.

Yacht Charter in Dubrovnik: The Best Companies

One of Europe’s most enchanting cities, Dubrovnik is also a hugely popular jumping off point for yacht charters that venture out to the Adriatic sea and beyond.

Located in southern Croatia, the city is best known for its beguiling Old Town encircled with huge 16 th -century stone walls. But it is as much its stunningly preserved. But it’s also Dubrovnik’s scenic coastline that draws huge numbers of visitors here every year – a coastline that entices many to venture out further to explore the glistening waters of the Adriatic. For such people, chartering a yacht around Dubrovnik is the perfect activity – and here are 3 great places to do so.

Founded in 2014, SkipperCity have served as a one-stop shop for yacht charters in Croatia for many years and are our number one recommendation for both crewed and bareboat charters in Dubrovnik. They offer everything from catamaran charter to luxury yacht to sailboat charter opportunities, and plenty more, across Croatia, with vessels of various size and spec available directly from two marinas in the Dubrovnik region:  ACI Marina Slano and ACI Marina Dubrovnik. They also offer a best price guarantee and the price you see is the price you pay, with no hidden fees.

Ritzy Charters

Ritzy Charters have a large fleet of crewed vessels available for boat charter adventures of a week or more, including sailboat, motor yacht and catamaran options. The booking process is easy – all you need to do is punch in details about your trip, including party size, dates of travel and preferred itinerary, then ask for a quote and wait to receive a shortlist of vessels available for your specified dates. When we looked at availability across Croatia we found over 170 vessels available – although not all of these will be possible to charter in Dubrovnik – with rates starting at €9,800 per week for a 57-foot catamaran that sleeps up to six guests.

Click & Boat are our top pick for short-term charters of anything from a few hours to a few days. A peer-to-peer platform, owners create free listings for their boats by adding pictures, a description, and a price, with prospective renters then able to  contact them directly via an online messaging service. Bareboat charter rentals are the cheapest option, but you can also have a captain onboard for an extra charge. When we searched for boat rentals in Dubrovnik, there were over 100 vessels available, with the cheapest option a traditional 5-metre wooden motorboat that can accommodate up to 6 people, available bareboat and priced at €76 per day before fees. No licence is required to helm this boat.

Bareboat Yacht Charter

All you should know about bareboat yacht charter.

A bareboat yacht charter is a type of yacht rental where a charterer rents a yacht without a crew or any other additional services. Essentially, the charterer or one of his crew becomes the skipper and takes full responsibility for navigating and operating the yacht. Bareboat charters are typically more affordable than crewed charters but require the charterer to have sailing experience and the necessary certifications to operate the yacht. The charterer is also responsible for all aspects of the trip, including navigation, provisioning, and cleaning. This type of charter is perfect for experienced sailors who want the freedom to explore on their own terms.

Why choose Croatia for a bareboat yacht charter?

Perfect sailing area.

Thanks to its indented coast, there are over 1000 islands , islets, rocks, and bays on the Adriatic. Most of the islands are not permanently populated during the year. Croatia’s Adriatic archipelago consists of three main regions, northern, central, and southern Adriatic. The North Adriatic is Istria and Kvarner, the Middle Adriatic is north and central Dalmatia (Zadar, Šibenik, Split), and the South Adriatic is south Dalmatia (Dubrovnik).

Bareboat yacht charter in Croatia is an excellent choice for experienced sailors, as well as for beginners. The nearest islands’ distance is about an hour to an hour and a half of sailing, which does not require long and extensive preparation. Sailing in Croatia is considered to be safe. In case of bad weather, you can always berth in a safe harbour on time. Of course, with continuous follow of the weather.

Pleasant weather conditions

The mild and pleasant Mediterranean climate’s influence makes sailing in Croatia and the Adriatic possible throughout the year. Bareboat yacht Charter season is running from April to November. Bareboat sailing is also possible outside this period, noting that most of the vessels are under maintenance and service during the winter. Out of charter season, most of the islands’ facilities, like marinas and restaurants, are closed, but you can berth in the city ports.

Weather conditions for sailing vary by season. Spring and autumn are characterized mainly by north and south winds, while in the summer, the most frequent are western and southwestern winds. In the low season, April, May, and October, prices are much lower, and fewer boats on the sea.

Stupica Bay (Buoy field), Žirje

What qualifications are required for a bareboat charter in Croatia?

The skipper must possess sailing and navigational experience adequate to the boat size and tonnage to charter a bareboat sailing yacht, catamaran, or motorboat in Croatia. Besides experience, it is necessary to have a skipper qualification/license .

In addition to skipper qualification, the VHF license is required. The VHF license can have as well one of the crew members. To check if your license is adequate for a bareboat yacht charter in Croatia, please send us the license scan by email or check the Recognized certificates for operating boats and yachts .

What types of yachts are available for bareboat charter?

Croatia has one of the biggest charter fleets in the world. More than 3000 different types of sailboats, motorboats, catamarans, and yachts are available for rental.

Bareboat Sailboats

We offer an extensive choice of bareboat sailboats for charter in Croatia . Sailboat brands from the leading European shipyards, Bavaria , Beneteau , Dufour, Hanse, Jeanneau, Elan .  You can find the right boat in a few steps through our online search engine . You can also send us an inquiry, and we will be happy to present our selection of boats and help you find the right boat for your sailing holiday in Croatia.

Sailboat Dufour 470

Bareboat Sail Catamarans

In addition to a large selection of sailboats, Croatia has the largest fleet of bareboat catamarans for charter . Although most clients choose to rent a catamaran with a professional skipper, the vast majority of catamarans are available for a bareboat charter. Catamarans from 40` - 50` are available for bareboat rental and accommodate up to 12 guests. Larger catamaran models are available with a professional skipper or complete crew. The most popular charter catamarans in Croatia: Lagoon, Fountain Pajot, Bali, Nautitech, and Dufour.

Catamaran Lagoon 450 F

Bareboat Power Catamarans

Power catamarans are an increasingly popular type of holiday boat on the Adriatic. However, the power catamaran's choice is not comparable to sailing catamarans or sailboats. Therefore, you need to book in time to save a date. The main feature of motor catamarans is that they provide generous comfort and allow quick arrival to the desired destination. The most common power catamarans for rent in Croatia are Fountain Pajot 37-45`, Lagoon and Leopard .

Fountain Pajot MY 37

Bareboat Motorboats

When we talk about bareboat motorboats, this refers to smaller boats (RIBs and speed boats) ideal for day trips and cruises and larger vessels that provide accommodation for up to 6 people, up to 12 m in length. In this case, the choice is also quite wide so that everyone can find a suitable vessel.

Motor boat Merry Fisher 895

Bareboat Motor Yachts

Motor Yachts are larger motorboats, which provide accommodation for six or more guests and are generally better equipped, providing more space and comfort. Motor Yachts up to 14-15 m can be rented without a crew; a larger and more luxurious yacht charter is possible only with a professional crew.

Motor Yacht Jeanneau Prestige 520

Security deposit & Deposit Insurance

For all bareboat yacht charters in Croatia, the charterer must leave a security deposit at check-in. The amount of the security deposit depends on the size and value of the vessel, typically € 1000-5000. The security deposit is returned at check out entirely if there is no damage to the boat caused by the skipper or his crew. The client can pay the security deposit in cash or by card. The alternative to a security deposit is the insurance of the deposit. This means you will pay a smaller amount - non-refundable and leave the reduced part of the deposit - refundable part. The insurance of the deposit is not available for all charter boats.

It is advisable for each skipper to make skipper insurance with one of the insurance companies. You can apply online for skipper and crew insurance with EIS .  However, even when you have skipper insurance, you will leave a security deposit at check-in. In case of damage settlement, with the proper documentation and invoice, you can get a refund for the paid insurance claim.

There are markets and shops on all of the inhabited islands in Croatia. Therefore, it is unnecessary to buy groceries in advance for the whole week, for the first two or three days is advisable.
