Barefoot IV Catamaran

We originally booked with the Fun Cat tours, which were recommended by our hotel, but the day we went was a holiday so they put us with a Castillo Tours Catamaran - the Barefoot IV. The trip was a blast. The boat was family run by Capt Robert (the eldest), Frances (chef & guide), Jeffrey (crew). They brought out the Rum Punch and Pina Coladas as soon as we left port and they did not skimp on the rum. They took us to Icacos Island for "practice" snorkeling (which nobody really did because of an abundance of small jelly fish at the time) and we all just chilled in the bathwater warm, clear blue water by the beach until lunch. Lunch was an assortment of deli meats and cold picnic salads, which Frances and Jeffrey prepared while we were out at the beach. From there we went to the "real" reef off Vieques ( I think). Clarity wasn't great (only 10-15ft) because of recent storms but it was still a lot of fun. Saw lots of zebra-striped fish, those blue "Dori"-type fish, etc. There was one big fish we saw who liked our leftover lunch meat. On the way back, the Pina Coladas flowed accompanied by great tunes courtesy of Pandora on Frances's phone. While we were there she was playing some great 80s music, though she says she switches it up by day so you won't know what kind of party (other than a rum one!) you'll get if you go. The snorkelling gear was sufficient and provided. They also provided transportation from San Juan but we opted for renting our own car ($80 from Avis for 2 days) - cheaper for 4 people than taking the bus ($30pp).

We originally booked with Fun Cat but due to not having enough people, they transferred us over to the Barefoot Catamaran through Castillo Tours. We enjoyed our trip. There were three crew members and they were all very friendly and more than willing to help. I would definitely book directly through Castillo Tours if I make a return trip to Puerto Rico.

My wife and I wanted to snorkel while in San Juan. This trip was great. The water was absolutely gorgeous and the crew of the boat was awesome. Tito, Francis, and Javier! The whole trip out was gorgeous as well. The lunch that we ate was prepared right in front of us. Wonderful, fresh ingredients made for a great lunch. Anyone can do this, even if you've never been snorkeling before. Plus, if you tucker out, they give you a flotation device which makes it super easy. The only thing that's a negative is that you can't pick who takes the trip with you (unless your group is at least 12 people). Most of the people in our group were great but we got stuck with this family from NY or Jersey or something that were quite the characters. I didn't know people acted that way in real life...just on Jersey Shore. Anyway, the Queen Guido didn't ruin the trip, just made it uneasy at times..especially with free rum. Do yourself a favor and book this trip! Also, they pick you up from your hotel...CANT BEAT THAT! If your driver is Steven, ask him about San Juan, he'll tell you all the best places! Kudos, Steven!

San Juan is a nice city with a lot of historical sites, but I'm not sure that the Bacardi & Old City tour is the best way to go. You spend a lot of time getting to and from the factory for a "canned" presentation and two drinks. The old city tour left a lot to be desired. It was mainly a tour of one of the forts and a drop off for shopping. Not so sure that you would be better off doing it on your own.

Me and my two teenagers took a 1\2 day tour of El Yunque in mid- August 2012. There were only 12 people on our tour which made it very personal. We really enjoyed the tour and felt that the guide was pretty good. We were picked up at our hotel and had a 45 min ride to the rainforest. Throughout the tour the guide had lots of interesting information and facts to offer us. You do a fair amount of walking but not do much as to exhaust someone in reasonable shape. You should wear good walking shoes because many of the paths are very slippery. At the end of the hike we were able to go swimming in the waterfall which was a thrill. The waterfall is cold and it's very rocky but really fun to do. Overall the tour was very fun and interesting and very worthwhile.

We used East Island Excursions and took the day trip to Culebra Island and Flamenco Beach. Flamenco Beach was beautiful and a must see in PR.

When sailing aboard  Luxury Snorkeling Tour you’ll enjoy warm temperatures and waters along the trip with spectacular views and beautiful landscapes. That’s why we recommend bringing on board:

• Waterproof Camera – Bring your Go Pro or your waterproof camera for the best pictures and highlights of your snorkeling and Beach Tour. (We sell waterproof disposable cameras and Cell phone water resistant covers at our Check Inn Station)
• Sunblock – It’s always summer in Puerto Rico that’s the reason why it is always good to be protected from the Sun.
• Towels – You are going to get wet for sure and that why it’s convenient to bring your own towels.
• Change of Clothes – As we said you are going to get wet in this tour, because of that we recommend bringing an extra pair of clothes in a small back-pack or purse.
• Sunglasses and/or Hat
• Comfortable Sandals or waterproof shoes
• Dramamine – If you’re not used to navigating at the sea its always god to take a motion sickness pill at least one hour before the trip. You can find this any pharmacy or supermarket.

We booked the Snorkel/BBQ/Sunset Sail on the” Zatara” directly with East Island Excursions due to a recommendation made by the owner of the house we were renting. Our party consisted of my wife and I, three 14 year old girls, and our 5 year old son. Everyone had a great time! The “Zatara”was well equipped and the maximum booking of 19 passengers was just right for the size of the boat. Everyone had space to relax on deck during the sailing portions of the trip. We sailed to an off-shore island that offered a lovely reef that was perfect for snorkeling. The crew was knowledgeable and attentive to our wants/needs. The open bar was well stocked, and the rum punch was tasty and refreshing.

Excellent Day Trip!

We enjoyed a day on the water on a catamaran with Captain Wilo and crew! What a wonderful crew. We never had to want for anything and they kept the liquid refreshments coming! We have a great BBQ lunch while at an island for some swimming and snorkeling. We cannot say enough good things about this day trip and would do it again on our next visit!

Great snorkeling trip!

We thoroughly enjoyed the trip. We had a sunset cruise and the views were amazing. The staff was extremely attentive and friendly. Very very helpful. Snorkeling was great! BBQ on the boat was amazing and there was an open bar! Icacos was beautiful and we had a great time on the beach and could quickly go to the boat for drinks and refreshments. If you get motion sick please take something!! Overall was an amazing experience and would definitely do it again!! Maria was constantly checking to make sure we didn’t need anything, she was very sweet. They also made it fun for the kids on board. Highly recommend!!

Luxury Catamaran to Icacos

This excursion is well worth it. We had a great time on the Zatara, with an exceptional crew who delivered the best service, and took time to get to know us. This was aboard a 19 passenger catamaran that provided a more intimate experience than some of the larger boats. We had a great time snorkeling, then enjoyed time at the beach and a delicious BBQ lunch. Would definitely do it again! Thank you, East Island Excursions, for a great day on the sea!

Highlight of our trip

Did the snorkeling trip yesterday and couldn’t have been more pleased. The crew was awesome. The deluxe trip aboard the Zatara was definitely worth it.

Simply incredible! Highly recommend! Carlos, Mariel and crew were fantastic, engaging, helpful, and had a great sense of humor. The food and drinks and music were excellent. Sailing and seeing a dolphin (who rode our bow for a bit) on the way back from an amazing snorkeling trip were icing on the cake.

19 person Catamaran Trip

I booked the snorkeling trip on the Zatara to Icacos island after I called up their office and explained to them that it would be my first snorkeling trip ever. They recommended Icacos island excursion. Sure enough, Captain Milo and his crew were so attentive and helpful… Hamburgers and hot dog, chicken was grilled and served for lunch. Fresh fruits and drinks flowed freely. The beach on Icacos island was shallow and water was very clear. I could see a lot of fishes and a few corals. My son captured some good videos on his Go Pro. Would highly recommend this excursion !!

Absolutely fantastic morning by Getaway! Capt Willie & Kevin attended to every detail! Safety instructions, history, ecology, tips & tricks to enjoy snorkeling and so much more. Took the boat to Culebra. Was a sped boat and your trip Is over an hour there. Thank God for the blue puke bags! But the crew were nice and helpful, constantly asking how you are feeling. The only thing they don't tell you is the boat doesn't dock, you have to swim to shore, which was fine but you need a waterproof bag and phone case. Overall, nice experience.

Sail Getaway was amazing! We did the snorkeling tour for Culebra. The snorkeling spot was great and we saw lots of coral, fish, and even a string ray. Flamenco Beach is breathtaking, the water is the prettiest blue I've ever seen. The crew is what we say "son buena gente!" We loved the crew and they did a great job serving us drinks, answering questions we had, and keeping everyone safe. Captain Robert, Yamil, Lowrra (Laura) , and another person's name that I can't remember were the best crew ever. When you are in Puerto Rico and want an amazing time snorkeling, go with Sail Getaway. It's worth every penny.

Very breath taking first time experience. This is a must activity when visiting the island. The crew is awesome and very polite. Can't wait to do it all over again.

We took the three-in-one catamaran getaway on New Year's Day with Omar and Arturo. Our group was 2 adults a 9 year old and a 5 year old. All of us had an amazing time. Omar and Arturo were awesome sailors/hosts/guides making sure they got us to Icacos safely for snorkeling, answered all our questions, taught us about Puerto Rico and even served us delicious drinks and snacks. A really beautiful afternoon/evening with super friendly guides, Omar and Arturo. Highly reccomend this tour.

My family and I came to vacation in PR for the very first time and we're so happy we had a chance to experience the Barefoot Catamaran! It is one it th best times you can have. From the yummy piña coladas to the delicious sandwiches and fruit they served us! Can't forget to mention how beautiful the Icacos island was! The water was as clear as a pool!! Thank y'all guys for the awesome experience!

The drive to Fajardo and Villa Marina is a 45 minute trip for the San Juan area. Once you get there you are greeted by Captain Dook and his staff. The adventure begins and depending on the tour of your choosing you should be in paradise in about an hour. We chose the Icacos Key and Tortuga Reef tour. We got to Icacos in about 45 minutes and immediately hit the water, which I must say was a dream! Cristaline and mesmerazing turquoise waters make you feel you are in beach lovers heaven. While you enjoy the beach, Captain Dook sets lunch, which consists of a buffet style table, with chicken & tuna salad, cheese, hams, breads, fruit salad, and unlimited sodas, water and cocktails (virgin or not), among many others. After lunch, you are allowed to enjoy Icacos for another hour before sailing to Tortuga Reef. Catamaran Getaway Tours supplies all the snorkling equipment required to enjoy the beautiful and breathtaking Tortuga Reef. We even saw stingrays! You will have approximately 2 hours to enjoy snorkling, and if you choose, you can also rest on the catamaran's deck. The trip back to the marina is another 45 minutes. Captain Dook and his staff were extremely attentive and accommodating. The price includes lunch, unlimited drinks and the snorkling equipment. Make sure you take your dramamine, just in case. Definitely a must do while in Puerto Rico.

Jeffrey and Omar were the best captains ever !! The boat was super clean abd the lunch they served was simple but delicious! Amazing views and your! Definitely booking with them again!

Wonderful day sailing to Icacos with a great group of 26. Captain Omar was a lot of fun and very helpful. The lunch on the boat was better than expected, I was happily surprised and would definitely book with them again!

First time in Puerto Rico and this tour is a must. The crew of the Traveler boat were very knowledgeable of the area, friendly to visitors, and great staff for the boat. The views are incredible and if the weather plays nicely, you'll get to experience amazing waters and marine life.
