Steve Cornwell

The Hanse 460 marks the launch of a new model range that combines radically innovative design with traditional Hanse values such as fast cruising and easy sailing.

In an exciting pitch, the yacht designers from Berret-Racoupeau in La Rochelle stood out with a vision that offers a new hull design, as well as a highly versatile cockpit and interior design. Together with the development team from Hanse, a family cruiser was developed with the aim of setting new standards in terms of easy handling, individualisation and sailing performance. And all this in a sporty, modern exterior design as well as an outstanding interior design, equipped with exclusive details.

Andreas Unger, Hanse Product Manager: “Our new Hanse 460 is a Hanse through and through. With the flexible option list, the customer can configure the boat in countless variations, both on deck and below. Furthermore, we have put a lot of emphasis on a finely balanced sailing performance based on a tall rig with a large sail area, various keel options and a clever deck layout. Combined with the new, sporty design and the easy handling typical of Hanse, the result is an all-round winning package.”

Hull: The newly developed, hydrodynamic hull manages the balancing act between a narrow waterline, for better hull speed, and a wide hull above the waterline with chines fore and aft, giving the greatest possible interior space. The reverse bow makes the boat pitch less in strong winds, while the pronounced bow chines keep the foredeck as dry as possible.

Deck: The new deck design has 14 opening hatches and eight opening windows to offer maximum light and ventilation below deck. Many smart options allow the cockpit to be optimally customised. These include an electrically lowering bathing platform with stairs, a wetbar with sink and grill, as well as telescopic davits that can be lowered flush to the cockpit floor when not in use. The optional hardtop can be fitted with a fixed windscreen and solar panels to generate renewable power, and fits perfectly with the boat’s aerodynamic silhouette.

The Hanse 460 marks the launch of a new model range

Interior: No fewer than 48 layout combinations give customers every opportunity to configure their Hanse 460 to suit their needs. Whether as an owner’s yacht with a master cabin including ensuite bathroom and two comfortable aft cabins; or as a charter yacht with 10 berths and three bathrooms – everything is possible. The galley can also be fully adapted to the customer’s wishes. In addition to various refrigerator and freezer options, there is also room for a wine cooler, dishwasher and a three-burner gas cooker with oven in the longitudinal or U-pantry, which can be customised with various colours and surface materials. Another optional highlight is the fully equipped navigation area with forward-facing seat, which is unparalleled in this class. The extensive options list, ranging from a washing machine in the utility room to flatscreens in the master cabin and saloon, is crowned by the Flagship Package, which includes exclusive fabrics and materials as well as a hidden bar behind the folding backrest in the saloon.

hanse yacht news

By McMichael Staff Editors

Exciting news! Hanse Yachts have unveiled their latest vessel, the Hanse 360. This is the fourth collaboration between Hanse and the well known designers at Berret-Racoupeau.

The team at Hanse tell us her, "cutting-edge design not only ensures outstanding ailing characteristics, but also an enormous volume of space and thus an unusually high level of comfort in this class."

More from Hanse Yachts:

"The typical Hanse chines give the Hanse 360 her striking appearance and also contribute to her stability and performance. An optional bowsprit extends the sail options and provides the yacht with additional performance on the water. Like all Hanse yachts, the Hanse 360 stands for fast cruising and easy sailing. All lines are led to the helm station, so that the yacht is not only safe and comfortable, but also fully suitable for single-handed sailing, as is usual with Hanse."

Just like with the Hanse 410, the 360 will be available with an electric drive, with a long range that is unique in her class.

The 360 is set to launch Summer of 2024. Stay tuned for more info on this exciting new boat...

Charter yacht of the week: Hanse Explorer, the 48m bastion of Antarctica

Each week we place a spotlight on one of the world’s finest superyacht for charter. This week BOAT steps aboard 48-metre Hanse Explorer in Antarctica to discover why she is one of the best yachts available in these icy waters.

She’s one of just a handful of yachts that continuously cruises Antarctica, and despite the other superyacht offerings here, Hanse Explorer remains Antarctica’s most popular charter yacht. Her high commercial ice classification, refined interiors and on-board expedition team offer the ultimate combination for an Antarctic (or tropical) adventure.

The 48-metre superyacht was delivered in 2006 by German shipyard   Fassmer . With expedition management exclusively by EYOS she has since then tested her expedition capabilities from the Arctic to Antarctica, proving herself with endless excitement and extreme charters. Hanse Explorer was then extensively refitted in 2021, which saw an all-encompassing redesign with contemporary interiors, brand new exterior spaces and zero-speed fin stabilisers.

Key Features

“We’ll certainly get through a lot of ice,” says EYOS co-founder, Tim Soper, in Punta Arenas, Chile, where the expedition team often meet guests before making the chartered flight down to Antarctica, gleefully bypassing the notorious Drakes Passage. “ Hanse Explorer doesn’t have a faired hull unlike other yachts down here, so we can really get into the ice without damaging the hull.” The 48-metre’s mighty blue hull is indeed a tough looking spectacle, intentionally un-faired so she can venture deeper into the ice.

For a charter that begins in Antarctica, rather than South America, EYOS arrange a chartered flight directly to King George Island with a pre-stay in Torres del Paine. This was first acheived by EYOS 15 years ago with a charter on board Hanse Explorer, and since proved successful for those who don't want to experience the Drakes Passage.

Having landed on Antarctica’s gravel airstrip on King George Island, Hanse Explorer sits just a few 100 metres off the dark sandy beach, surrounded by dramatic ice-capped mountains and the occasional penguin. She has two new Zodiacs that take guests directly to the “mud room” which is pleasingly stocked with impedimenta – hand warmers, boots, skis and everything else one could need for a day among the ice.

Connected with a staircase up to the main saloon, once you step away from the expedition areas, you’re back into superyacht territory with light woods and a neutral palette of creams, clean whites and chromed silvers, with just a touch of nautical navy blue. The main saloon is almost entirely bordered with a cream L-shaped sofa, which faces a concealable television used for daily updates, expedition plans and talks on the Antarctic wildlife and its unique eco-system.

The idea for the refit was to make her refined – beautiful but not brash. Deck spaces were completely transformed to prioritise time in the great outdoors. The top deck, previously off-limits, had the radar raised by three metres to create an outdoor oasis during expeditions. Up on the top deck there is now a hot tub, a cocktail area with Bose sound systems and cabana-style Bali beds for sleeping under the stars in warmer climes. She also has a sauna and new gym on board for an added blast of wellness on board. Although, the plunge pool has been excluded to encourage guests to partake in the Polar Plunge, where guests hop off the stern into the sub-zero waters to cool off.

The crew of 15 are not only made up of experienced seafarers, but photographers, ice specialists and wildlife experts hailing from all over the world including Ukraine, Austria and South Africa.

What’s special about Hanse Explorer ?

“Do you mind if I use the PA system if we come across killer whales?” asks EYOS expedition leader Richard White, who is renowned for his extraordinary talent for spotting even the most concealed wildlife. This is the nature of the charter with a team like this, who are on constant lookout for wildlife 24 hours a day. Just a few hours after boarding, guests are out on the water, observing elephant seals and humpback whales from the Zodiacs.

With every Hanse Explorer charter, an EYOS guide will be on board specialising in the local environment, be it polar or Tropical. White’s Antarctic expertise hails back to 1988 when he first visited the region. “I continue to be astonished by Antarctica, it’s unlike anywhere else on the planet and it’s such a pleasure to be able to show that to people in this way,” he says. An avid ornithologist and marine mammal enthusiast, there isn’t much that White doesn’t know about these icy climbs – as we soon discover on board.

“You see those bumps just before the whale's blowhole,” says White, gesturing to a nearby humpback which breaches metres before the Zodiac. “Those are actually hair follicles – they’re mammals.”

In cooler climes like Antarctica, almost all meals are served inside, rather than the aft deck, which is also equipped with a dining table for excursions in French Polynesia or Papua New Guinea (both of which are in Hanse Explorer ’s plans for 2024). But the interior space sits between six large windows, from which wildlife can still be seen. “Humpbacks starboard,” announces White during lunch, as the guests leap up to observe a huge humpback and her calf feeding just a few metres from the yacht.

"No other yacht is as comfortable in the ice as Hanse Explorer, " says EYOS CEO Ben Lyons. "She can spend full days navigating dense ice flows and get to where the wildlife is. She is an incredibly versatile vessel thanks to her recent refit and packs a ton of stuff in for a 48-metre."

The six well-appointed guest cabins lie forward of the dining area, each with a elegant neutral colour palette, cream sofas and oversized windows to spot the icebergs drifting past. The master cabin utilises half of the upper deck and has its own private deck that has access to the bridge.

“We run an open ship policy on board,” says Captain Andriy Bratash. “We encourage you to come up to the bridge and chat to us whenever you feel like it. Sunrise is at 4:45 tomorrow and the best place to see it is from the bridge, so do come on up if you wish.”

Why is Hanse Explorer the perfect charter yacht?

If you’re heading to Antarctic waters, she is the perfect yacht. Her sturdiness won’t hold you back in the same way faired vessels do and her comfort is well into the superyacht sphere. There is a reason she remains the most popular charter yacht in Antarctica. Experiences offered on board  Hanse Explorer , such as diving, are created consciously and in line with a passion for the environment. That’s why you won’t find any Jet Skis in the toybox, and why it took almost two and half years to meticulously trial the viability of offering a kayaking experience in Antarctica on board.

“We get so many repeat clients on Hanse Explorer, " adds Lyons. "People come back because they love the atmosphere that develops on board. Both captains have been with the yacht for years and they know Antarctica and ice navigation so well and it really makes all of the difference.”

Experiences on board are meaningful, educational and mesmerising, designed to immerse you into the environment in a way that very few superyacht pilots will be able to replicate.

Hanse Explorer is available to charter with EYOS with a weekly rate from $235,000.

Hanse yachts is an innovative boatyard, setting high standards for “comfort at sea” and development of fast yachts with an excellent price/performance ratio..

As one of the largest builders of production yachts in Europe, Hanse combines the tradition of superb craftsmanship with modern techniques and materials. Vinyl ester resin in production boat building is one of Hanse’s most outstanding innovations.

Hanse, with models in various sizes, from the practical Hanse 315 up to the very elegant Hanse 675 offers some of the fastest designs.

All Hanse yachts are designed by the world´s leading naval architects, including Judel/vrolijk & co, who are responsible for defending the America's Cup title with Alinghi. Their innovative design approach has resulted in yachts that bring unique performance advantages in beating upwind, reaching and gliding downwind.

Hanse Fast Cruising

For years now, Hanse has been a trendsetter in simplifying sailing and making it faster. Hanse always stands for innovative design and continuous development of cruising sail boats. The hull shapes are developed with focus on performance and comfort. Hanse yachts hulls are further optimised by taking the latest research results in the field of hydrodynamics into account.

This reflects in the vertically designed bow and stern of all Hanse yachts, a feature that allows them to achieve a very long waterline and consequently a significantly increased hull speed. The sail-plan is also optimised. The mast is positioned further to aft, resulting in a larger surface of the self-tacking jib, which benefits performance in light winds. The surface areas of the main sail and jib are very well balanced and that translates into a balanced sailing performance.

Hanse Easy Sailing

Sailing Hanse yachts is incredibly easy thanks to the self-tacking jib and the fact that all the halyards, extensors and sheets are led to the helmsman position. We are not talking only about sheeting in and slackening of sails, but also setting or reducing sails. All this can be done easily from the wheel. Hanse models can be sailed easily with a small crew or even singlehandedly.

In addition to great sailing performance, Hanse places great importance on simplified handling of their yachts. They call this concept Easy Sailing and Hanse is way ahead of the competition regarding this aspect of sailing. The easy handling is not reserved only for sailing. With a combination of bow thruster, stern thruster and deep rudder, docking and casting off turns into child’s play, even in the smallest of harbours.

Hanse Individual customization

A vast selection of options, layouts, colours, fabrics, wood and floorings makes every Hanse yacht a unique creation. The Hanse Individual Cabin Concept is unique in serial yacht production! Hanse offers you a selection of colours for the hull’s gelcoat and water line. For those who choose to have a lacquered hull surface instead of gelcoat, the range of colour design is almost limitless.

With Hanse it is a bit like with an interior design studio, you can design your very own yacht that suits your individual needs. Choose from multiple cabin layout combinations, optional equipment, a multitude of types of wood for furniture and flooring and a broad range of fabrics and colours. Boatworld insiders have been buzzing with speculation that Zuckerberg is the owner of the newly minted mega-cruise ever since it made its main voyage from the Netherlands last week.

The tech titan was spotted touring the Russian-commissioned megayacht in early March, though the impressive boat didn’t arrive stateside until this week due to sanctions, according to The Sun.

The website reported that Zuckerberg purchased the pricey yacht – along with its own $30 million partner boat — most likely as an early 40th birthday present to himself.

The boat reportedly traveled to Florida after being granted special permission to be imported just weeks ahead of Zuckerberg’s birthday on May 14.

Zuckerberg’s yacht is just 30 feet shorter than the length of fellow billionaire Jeff Bezos’ 417-foot megayacht Koru, which the Amazon boss snagged for a whopping $500 million.

Zuckerberg’s rep did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

Marina altercation

Talk about a bizarre scene that could’ve been pulled straight from a movie.

The owner of a $3.4 million Lamborghini yacht threatened a private dock employee after he was informed that he couldn’t be there, CBS8 reported back on March 11.

The story begins with Joseph Holt, a 21-year-old employee at Marriot Marina in San Diego, where he told CBS8 that he saw the yacht sailing into the private dock Sunday afternoon. Apparently, the owner, identified as Ajay Thakore, attempted to pick up another person at the dock.

“I told him respectfully that he couldn’t be there, and I honestly was hoping to have a conversation with him about his cool boat,” Holt said to the news outlet.

“But yeah, it completely went the other way,” Holt added.

Captured on a video that was posted to YouTube by @SM-wc9eq on March 10 was an embarrassing verbal confrontation between Holt and Thakore, in front of a host of onlookers.

A dark blue Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 can be seen sailing out of a dock. Standing on the end of the yacht was a man sporting a gray shirt, jeans, and a cap.

The man seen in the video footage was seemingly the local business owner and philanthropist, screaming at the young man as the yacht sailed away.

Thakore was seen threatening his life, shouting at Holt, saying, “I will kill you, you know I will kill you!” He can be heard repeating himself multiple times in the video.

Thakore can be seen pounding his fists on his palm and pointing his thumb down, and telling Holt, “To your face!”

This caused Holt, who is standing on the dock, to respond with hoisting his middle finger in the air, directed at Thakore. Thakore’s screams can be heard echoing through the arena.

“It escalated immediately. It was 0 to 100 immediately,” he said to the outlet.

“I really was trying to restrain myself from getting fired from my job or stepping out of line. The only thing I did was give him the bird,” he added.

Holt said Thakore went as far as to take $100 bills from his wallet and throw the money at him, which landed in the water, and even dropped his pants and mooned him.

“[He] started to make gestures to everybody watching and me. You can’t act that way in public. It’s just not ok. Especially threatening my life, at the very least. There were women and children there. That’s the most important part,” Holt told the news outlet.

Unfortunately, the lewd act wasn’t caught on video.

“I’m a minimum wage worker, he was commenting on that, on my status just because of my job. He was saying I’m nobody, I’m nothing, I work a silly job. He said that he knows people, he has connections, he can change my life and ruin it,” Holt said.

The San Diego Harbor Police reported to the scene 10 minutes later.

Thakore, who goes by the name Ace Rogers on Instagram and TikTok and has a LinkedIn page stating that he’s the CEO of Doctor Multimedia, a healthcare marketing firm based in San Diego, had his public relations team provide a statement to CBS8, saying that he regrets the altercation.

“What started as a minor misunderstanding escalated into an argument, and I apologize for my actions and to those who witnessed the unfortunate exchange,” the statement said.

The owner of a $3.4 million Lamborghini yacht threatened a private dock employee after being told he couldn't be there, the San Diego-based broadcaster CBS8 reported on March 11.

Joseph Holt, a 21-year-old employee at Marriot Marina in San Diego, told CBS8 that he spotted the yacht sailing into the private dock. The owner, whom CBS8 identified as Ajay Thakore, tried to pick another person up at the dock, Holt said.

"I told him respectfully that he couldn't be there, and I honestly was hoping to have a conversation with him about his cool boat," Holt told CBS8.

In a YouTube video posted by @SM-wc9eq on March 10, a dark blue Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 is seen sailing out of a dock. A man in a gray T-shirt, a pair of jeans, and a cap was shown standing on the yacht. The man appeared to be Thakore, per CBS8.

Thakore was shown shouting at Holt. "I will kill you, you know I will kill you!" he can be heard saying multiple times in the video

Thakore was later shown pounding his fist on his palm and pointing his thumb down before telling Holt: "To your face!" Holt was shown responding by pointing his middle finger at Thakore.

"I really was trying to restrain myself from getting fired from my job or stepping out of line. The only thing I did was give him the bird," Holt told CBS8.

Holt said Thakore then took $100 bills from his wallet and threw them at him. He added that Thakore mooned him. This exchange was not shown in the video.

"He was saying I'm nobody, I'm nothing, I work a silly job. He said that he knows people, he has connections, he can change my life and ruin it," Holt said. Holt did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment.

The San Diego Harbor Police arrived at the marina 10 minutes after Thakore's yacht exited the dock, per CBS8.

The Harbor Police told Business Insider that Holt decided to press charges against Thakore and that they are investigating the incident.

According to Thakore's LinkedIn page , he's the CEO of Doctor Multimedia. The company's website shows that it's a healthcare marketing firm based in San Diego. Thakore appears to go by the name Ace Rogers on Instagram and TikTok, where he's noted as being a professional gambler.

Thakore, through his public relations team, told CBS8 in a statement that his altercation with Holt was "regrettable."

"What started as a minor misunderstanding escalated into an argument, and I apologize for my actions and to those who witnessed the unfortunate exchange," the statement said. Thakore did not immediately respond to a request for comment from BI.

Thakore isn't the only CEO who's been called out for threatening another person. In November 2021, an Activision spokesperson told BI that its ex-CEO Bobby Kotick had previously apologized for telling his assistant he would have her killed. The spokesperson added that Kotick's threat was "obviously hyperbolic and inappropriate" and that "he deeply regrets the exaggeration and tone."

In June 2020, Lisa Alexander, the CEO of LaFace Skincare, a cosmetics company, apologized in a statement to the media after she had threatened to call the police on her neighbor for writing "Black Lives Matter" on his property. Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported

B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.

Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.

Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.

Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.

Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.

The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.

Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."

More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.

Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.

The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."

The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.

On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.

The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.

There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.
