Superyacht Cup Palma 2023 opens for business
The superyacht cup palma, established in 1996, is the longest-running superyacht regatta in europe ….
Over a dozen prospective entries have declared an interest in joining the superyacht festival with racing on the Bay of Palma, including a trio of J Class yachts. Alongside likely 2023 returnees Velsheda and Svea is Lionheart, last seen at SYC in 2014 when it took three race wins – including a dead heat finish – on the way to the top of a five-strong J Class fleet.
"It's been a while since we last raced at Superyacht Cup Palma but you never forget a great event with terrific sailing conditions, so we are all looking forward to a long overdue return visit," said Lionheart's skipper Toby Brand. "Having won the last time we were there we've clearly got a lot to live up to, but I know the owner and the crew can't wait for the challenge – not to mention the great social side ashore as well."
Lionheart's unusual history started in the 1930s originally as a Burgess and Stephens design which was not proceeded with, before finally seeing the light of day after being revisited by Hoek Design and launched in 2010. Along with Svea, Lionheart is a shining example of Hoek Design.
Other superyachts potentially returning – several for a second successive year – include Archelon, Pattoo and Kiboko 3, the latter pair only separated on countback at the top of a hard-fought Class A in 2022, with the 33m Pattoo edging the win. Meanwhile, Superyacht Cup Palma welcomes the prospect of greeting a first-timer in the shape of the Swan 100 Onyx (ex-Aquarius Alfa, Flying Dragon II).
"This will be a Superyacht Cup Palma baptism for Onyx, but an event we are all expecting will be one of the highlights of our season," said skipper Sam Forbes. "The regatta has a well-deserved reputation for delivering great racing and I have no doubt this will be another memorable year." Onyx faces the possibility of competing against a Nautor Swan stablemate Jasi (ex-Odin), a prospective SYC entry which has just successfully completed the 2023 RORC Transatlantic Race.
"As ever one of the pleasures of being involved with Superyacht Cup Palma as we go into its 27th year is welcoming newcomers and greeting old friends once again,"said SYC Event Director Kate Branagh."We are also delighted that we will be returning to our base at the prestigious Real Club Náutico de Palma, our long-standing race management partner."
Branagh also welcomed a new addition to the SYC family in the shape of the worldwide yacht management company Hill Robinson which is joining as a Silver Partner. "The Superyacht Cup Palma has earned an excellent reputation in the sailing world for gathering a rich array of the world’s premier sailing yachts to race head-to-head. Hill Robinson was forged by the founding partners, Nick and Niall’s passion for classic sailing yachts; a love for the sea that we still retain today. So, we are genuinely excited by this opportunity to be involved with this prestigious event," said Paul Cook, Chief Operating Officer of Hill Robinson.

On Island – Time To Go Racing!
Fantastic fleet assembled for the 2024 st barths bucket.
Most of the fleet has arrived, and some of the entrants are working off the rust with early week practices. Sunshine and wind are what we’ve all come to expect in St Barths, and early forecasts suggest there will plenty of both when the racing starts on Friday.
One never knows with weather forecasts nowadays, but 13-18kt Easterly tradewinds is what the experts are telling us. Rosehearty, Hanuman, Nostromo, Inukshuk, Hetairos, Nakupenda, and L’Hippocampe are already at the dock with the finishing touches being applied to the race village at the Capitainerie. With racing less than 2 days off, spirits and expectations are high!
The seven classes include 11 Corinthian Spirit entries in two non-spinnaker classes, a 90-foot class, and the debut of an ‘Open Class’ that includes a combination of cruising yachts and one racing superyacht.
There are four impressive entries making their superyacht racing debut – the 59-meter Maximus (Vitters/Frers), 47-meter Nilaya (Royal Huisman/Reichel-Pugh) 31-meter Zemi (Baltic/ Malcolm Mckeon) and the 33 meter Gelliceaux (Southern Wind/Farr). The first two will do battle in Les Gazelles Class A which features some of the fastest yachts in fleet. We count no less than 8 former Bucket class winners among the 30 entries this year.
The class breaks have been posted for weeks and remain unchanged from the earliest preliminary version . Unparalleled ORCsy class racing with the popular pursuit racing format will provide yacht owners with exciting competition against yachts with somewhat similar sailing characteristics. The Corinthian Spirit Class racing will return to its roots and once again be a non-spinnaker competition.
The official 2024 Bucket social schedule will again be unrivaled, providing yacht owners and their guests with a unique, fun filled experience shoreside and on the water as well.
We look forward to seeing these magnificent sailing yachts and their crews on the racecourse Friday for race number 1, around the island!

2024 official charity .
The 2024 donation will be made to a most worthwhile one: The Youth Sailing Program at the St Barths Yacht Club (SBYC). SBYC is an active sailing school with the youth of St Barths a major focus. Every year, hundreds of children learn to respect each other and their environment. They also learn responsibility and cooperation in the pursuit of these goals.
SBYC is not a conventional yacht club. Resources and budgets are far more limited than what one would expect to find in a typical yacht club. The safety and maintenance of boats in the children’s fleet is an important priority for the SBYC.
In addition to a monetary donation to support their operations, 2024 will again include a robotic mark. The Bucket will purchase and donate a second robotic mark, which will be used by the club and hopefully at all regattas in St Barths. Robotic marks are increasingly prevalent in sailboat racing and represent a strong commitment to the environment. They reduce the need for mark boats, decreasing engine pollution and environmental damage to the sea floor by anchors.
The SBYC and their members play an active role as on-water and shoreside volunteers at the Bucket each year.
Space Gallery St Barth is proud to partner with the Bucket Regatta for the seventh year running to offer the limited edition 2024 poster. The commemorative Bucket Poster will be available exclusively at Space Gallery and was designed for the third consecutive year by Hermès’ in-house designers. The poster has become a collector’s item for visitors to the island and aficionados of the annual regatta. The poster is a limited, numbered edition of only 250 offered for sale this year. It is priced at 100 euros and will officially go on sale on Monday, 11 March, directly at the Space Contemporary Art Gallery, which is located on Carré D’Or between Hermès and Cartier.

USRowing Announces 2023 and 2024 Regatta Schedule
USRowing is thrilled to announce our regatta schedule for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Competition is a shared priority and core to our mission, and we look forward to improving your experience as we move into the 2023 racing season. Our 2023 and 2024 regatta schedule will reflect the regatta priorities we presented in July, feedback we've gotten from the community over the course of the 2022 season, and the availability of venues that can support our experiences. USRowing will be delivering more racing opportunities – and more dependable racing opportunities – for masters rowers, bringing our regattas to more venues, focusing on the growth of our national championship regattas, and bringing our values to wherever we host events. Our national championships' slate will include three summer regattas in 2023. USRowing will kick off the summer with the Youth National Championships June 8-11 in Sarasota, Fla. The USRowing Summer National Championships will be combined back into one event and will return to Lake Harsha July 13-16 in Bethel, Ohio. However, the event will not include national team trials racing. The following week, the USRowing Masters National Championships will be held just two hours away in Indianapolis, Ind. Summer nationals and masters nationals have traditionally been several weeks apart, forcing many teams to choose one regatta, delaying masters' transition to head race training, and impacting our ability to deliver a great experience across both events. The timing and location of these regattas will allow clubs to more readily attend both events. In July 2024, we will host the inaugural RowFest Summer Championships in Oklahoma City, bringing together the entire rowing community for 10 days of competition, development, and entertainment for competitors and spectators alike. Combining these regattas and expanding our charter will breathe new life into summer competition that has become transactional rather than transformational, provide value beyond racing for more members of our community, and reach new audiences by combining sport with entertainment, learning, and development. On the youth side, USRowing will continue to support our six youth regional events in the Central, Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, and Southwest. The USRowing Southeast Youth Championships will be held at Lake Lanier in Gainesville, Ga., where we will be bringing the 1996 Olympic venue back into the regatta rotation. Lake Lanier is one of six venues scheduled to host regattas in 2023-24 that are either new or have been absent from our rotation for years. The learnings we gather across a variety of locations will be instrumental to our long-term venue strategy. One of our goals is to ensure more masters athletes have championship racing opportunities at the regional level closer to their home club. We're bringing back our Southwest event and partnering with existing regattas to deliver championships to the Central and Mid-Atlantic regions as well. In addition, we're moving Northwest masters to Dexter Reservoir, given the environmental risks to summer competition at Vancouver Lake. All five regattas will take place over the same weekend in 2023. USRowing is at the beginning of a multi-year journey to deliver more value in competition and ensure a bright future for our sport. We look forward to seeing you at our championship regattas next year and for years to come. Click here to see our FAQ for details about our decision-making process. Click here to read Chief Program Officer Rich Cacioppo's letter regarding the schedule announcement. 8 Yacht Clubs and Marinas in the Philippines to Moor Your Boat In
FoodfindsAsia.com | 8 Yacht Clubs and Marinas in the Philippines to Moor Your Boat In | Filipinos’ history as a maritime people date back to prehistoric times. In fact, the Philippines’ basic sociopolitical unit today, the barangay, traces its etymological origins to the balangay , the ancient outrigger boats that were used by precolonial Filipino communities to explore and conquer islands this side of the Pacific. As a people belonging to a seafaring culture, it’s no wonder that modern Filipinos are taking a retrospective look at their glorious past as Austronesian mariners and are developing a renewed love for the ocean and marinas as present-day yachtsmen.
Today, Philippine marinas look to accommodate more and more yachts and other pleasure watercrafts as the years go by. In 2017, an ASEAN Briefing op-ed piece named the Philippines as a country with high potential in yacht industry growth. The natural beauty of the Philippine islands and its fantastic bays, combined with a growing interest in leisurely sea travel, can explain the spike in yachting activities throughout the country.
Are you part of the demographic that’s become enamored of the yachting lifestyle? Do you want to know where in the country you can berth your watercraft? Leading sailboat and motorboat authority Europa Yachts is happy to enter the conversation, and recommends the following locations for discovering the Philippines through yachting. Here is a short list of clubs and marinas in the country, organized by island region.
Manila Yacht Club and Marina, Manila, Metro Manila
Established in 1927, the Manila Yacht Club and Marina is one of the oldest yacht clubs in all of Asia, and is nestled in the scenic Manila Bay. It is also near other well-known landmarks in the city, such as the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), the headquarters of the Philippine Navy, and the US Embassy. Facilities in the marina include a launching ramp and a fueling center, and the club itself is host to a restaurant and gorgeous function rooms. The Manila Yacht Club only welcomes visitors who arrive by boat, and it charges an initial security deposit of USD 750 upon arrival. Club membership is mandatory for medium and long-term mooring of boats.
Subic Bay Yacht Club, Zambales
The Subic Bay Yacht Club, which was founded in 1998, upholds itself as the country’s premier yacht club. It operates in the deepest bay in the country, and can host vessels well beyond 50 meters in length. Already benefitting from the innate beauty of the Zambales mountains surrounding it, the club hosts a number of other attractions, including its luxury accommodations, swimming pools, and its own movie theater, bowling alley, and nightclub. Those who venture outside of the club’s premises can also shop for well-priced imported goods at the Subic Freeport Zone, engage in water sports , or sign up for diving excursions.
Punta Fuego Yacht Club, Batangas
Peaceful Punta Fuego is a mecca for those who love the sport of sailing. As per its official website, the Punta Fuego Yacht Club aims to serve “a dynamic and vibrant community of boat enthusiasts and yacht owners.” This it does by playing host to a diverse population of watercrafts, from large catamarans and mono-hull yachts to small boats. Non-members of the club may use the berths for up to 3 weeks, and can refuel at the marina’s fueling station. The yacht club offers other amenities such as locker rooms, shower rooms, Internet facilities, a chart room, and a restaurant called Barracuda Bar, which serves delicious fares. Outside of the yachting crowd, Punta Fuego Yacht Club also caters to those wishing to celebrate weddings, conferences, and corporate events in their opulent quarters.
Puerto Galera Yacht Club, Oriental Mindoro
Further south, yachtsmen may moor at the Puerto Galera Yacht Club in Oriental Mindoro, an island location that’s home to tourist attractions like the Sabang Wreck dive site, lively beachfront resorts, and the Malasimbo Music Festival. Puerto Galera Yacht Club has been in operation for almost thirty years and lends services such as refueling provisions and yacht repairs from its marina. Boat owners also enjoy optimal convenience if mooring here, as they can also shop for spare parts in the nearby Batangas port.
Busuanga Yacht Club, Puerta del Sol Bay Marina, Palawan
Beautiful Palawan is a bucket-list destination for many, especially those who dream of cruising its crystalline waters. Accommodating the yachting community in this island province is the Busuanga Yacht Club, which promises secure mooring amidst breathtaking white-sand beaches. Here, each vessel will benefit from a typhoon-safe harbor, easy refueling, and direct access to transportation hubs like the New Busuanga Airport. Adjoining this marina is the Puerta del Sol Bay Resort, which offers luxurious accommodations to visitors. When not atop the deck of a boat, travelers can also explore the lagoons and freshwater lakes of Coron, go shipwreck diving, or relax in the hot springs of Maquinit.
Iloilo Sailing Club, Arevelo, Iloilo City, Iloilo
Iloilo Province is home to some of the country’s most beautiful old-world architecture, a flourishing ecotourism industry, and delectably fresh seafood cuisine. What will round off an unforgettable visit to Iloilo, however, is an excursion to the Iloilo Sailing Club on a leisure watercraft. The club accepts visitors and encourages membership in the case of medium and long-stay mooring. It also hosts a number of amenities and activities, including a dinghy storage, a beach bar and restaurant, and classes for those who want to learn about sailing. In recent months, the Iloilo Sailing Club has also been a convenient meet-up point for big maritime events, such as the Iloilo-Guimaras Paraw Regatta and the Seafarers’ Job Fair.
Cebu Yacht Club, Mactan Island, Cebu
The historic Mactan Island in Cebu was the site of Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan’s arrival in the Philippines. Now known as a commercial hub that hosts a prolific furniture and musical instruments industries, Mactan is also the location of the Cebu Yacht Club, an institution that is beloved by the locals. Aside from being an ideal spot to restock on much-needed fuel and supplies, the Cebu Yacht Club is also a trusted club to commission for boat repairs. There’s a good vibe in this club for everybody, as it sports both luxury accommodations and a waterfront strip of restaurants that laid-back diners can frequent. MINDANAO
Holiday Oceanview Marina, Samal Island, Davao del Norte
The Holiday Oceanview Marina is a major attraction of Samal Island in Davao del Norte Province, one that welcomes Filipino and foreign yachtsmen alike to moor within its premises. The space is quite roomy, in fact, with 56 berths that can fit vessels up to 15 meters in length. The club also has a boat ramp that can accommodate boats up to 18 meters in length.
