As part of the third largest continent in the world, the best time to visit during your superyacht vacation will naturally depend on your destination;

Attractive couple with a booking agent

With its incredibly diverse landscape offering a wide variety of spectacular destinations, the USA remains a hugely popular destination for yacht charters.

As a major yachting hub, there should always be a wide variety of yachts and destinations to choose from, however we do recommend booking your rental yacht well in advance of your trip to secure your perfect yacht on your preferred dates.

This will ensure your yacht broker has plenty of time to tailor an itinerary to suit you and your guests, including any nights you wish to spend in marinas. We recommend booking up to 3 months in advance to give your broker the optimum time to organize everything down to the last detail.

A purple car in florida, USA

For yacht charters in the Pacific Northwest;

  • Desolation Sound is very calm and sheltered so not always a good option for those who like to sail.
  • The San Juan islands are slightly protected from rain by the Olympic Mountains, but can still be showery at any time of the year.
  • Bring warm clothes for Alaska as temperatures get very chilly, especially near the glaciers.
  • Beware of large cruise ships as their wakes can be a nuisance.
  • Alaska is not an ideal destination for sailing, as winds are either non-existent or southwesterlies bring uncomfortable seas.
  • Some of the most beautiful anchorages around Alaska can be up to 100 ft deep.

For yacht charters on America's southwest coast;

  • If you are chartering a foreign-flagged vessel or returning from Mexico, you will be required to stop at Customs on Shelter Island, where they routinely confiscate chicken, eggs, and fruit.
  • It's also generally preferable to head south down the US West Coast rather than fight the winds and tides heading north.

For yacht charter itineraries that include the Bahamas

  • Insurance and taxes in the Bahamas are 4%.
  • Visa issues have been experienced clearing through the Bahamas.

Advice relating to all regions;

  • Tips on charters in the US are often expected to be at least 20%.
  • Whilst some yachts are legally permitted to charter in the US, others do not meet American fiscal requirements and so are not available for charter whilst in US waters. Please speak with a yacht broker for further advice on specific yachts that can charter in the USA.

Don't miss the phenomenal Princess Louisa Inlet and Chatterbox Falls; a  scenic granite-walled gorge of cascading waterfalls that has to be seen to be believed. Gibson’s Landing is a quaint seaside village overlooked by the towering mountains where you will find a charming bustling town, art galleries, museums and restaurants, marina and mooring facilities. Further afield, be sure to visit Halfmoon bay , Sargeant Bay  and Thormanby Islands , characterized by their tiny coves and blissfully quiet anchorages.

America's largest state, lying on the Arctic Circle separated from its own country by Canada, is well-known for its unparalleled visually dramatic scenes, breaching whales, calving glaciers and majestic mountains, not to mention its undeniably breathtaking dramatic midnight sunsets. Anyone visiting the region will also be able to get up close to some of nature's most magnificent animals, such as humpback whales, orcas, caribou and majestic soaring eagles. There are endless beautiful spots to visit, and wherever you are you will not be disappointed during a yacht charter in Alaska .

Alaska with mountains and water

Glacier Bay is a particular favorite destination for yacht charters, where you can park up and witness thunderous icebergs births, as well as also enjoy skiing, whitewater rafting and spectacular helicopter picnics on top of a glacier.

Try your hand at King Salmon fishing outside of Sitka , fly over the Mendenhall Glacier near Juneau or float through endlessly beautiful Frederick Sound spotting breaching humpback whales. Red Bluff Bay , known for its towering mountains, waterfalls and glistening ice fields, is also home to the region's brown bears who feast on salmon here every August.

Stretching from San Francisco down to Newport Beach , San Diego and into Baja California, this region is best characterized by its endless miles of beautiful beaches and wild rugged shoreline, where you can appreciate its spectacular beauty from the water as you witness breaching whales and dolphins darting across the wake of your yacht as they make their journey towards the warmer waters of Mexico .

Golden gate bridge, San Fransisco

Start your yacht charter in San Francisco ’s natural vast harbor, and watch the dolphins and sea lions frolic in the surf. Unhampered views of the  Golden Gate Bridge are sure to make your charter already feel special. Take the tender ashore to experience the heady bustle of Fisherman’s Wharf , and don’t miss a spine-chilling trip around Alcatraz Prison . We also recommend a trip to Muir Woods , where you can take in the spectacular sight of hundreds of gigantic 1000-year-old redwoods, a truly unmissable event.

Head north to Point Reyes National Seashore Reserve , and enjoy a hike around beautiful wind-swept rocky bluffs and secluded golden beaches. Due east of Point Reyes, you’ll find California’s world-class Napa Valley wine region , where you can spend the day tasting some of the world’s finest wines in the California sun against the stunning backdrop of the hillside vineyards.

Follow the wind and tides down past Santa Cruz and take shelter in the scalloped bay encircling the beautiful town of Monterey , a bustling waterfront offering plenty of dining options where you can enjoy the local specialty of freshly caught squid. Don’t miss the Monterey Aquarium , one of the best on the West Coast.

Beach along Baja Caifornia Sur

If you are intending to include the stunning Baja California in your itinerary, where better than to kick things off in the eternally glamorous city of Los Angeles , where convenient transport links, not to mention some of the finest restaurants and bars in America, will prove a great starting point for your yacht charter. Take a stroll along Redondo Beach , Los Angeles’ hidden gem, before heading back to your yacht. Cruise to Newport Beach just off the coast of Los Angeles, the renowned playground for mega yachts and Hollywood royalty. If you’ve booked ahead, moor up at Newport Beach Club, one of the oldest in the US, and take a stroll across the bridge to Balboa Island , where nostalgically charming cottages with white picket fences, saltwater taffy shops and wooden ice-cream parlors abound.

Across the water you’ll find the beautiful Santa Catalina Island , where crystal clear waters make the perfect spot for a picnic, followed by a swim and some snorkeling around the reef, where you will find an abundance of fascinating marine life.

Further south you'll be sure of a warm welcome in  San Diego , with gorgeous sandy beaches and a plethora of parkland. Visit Redwood National Park where you can discover the world’s tallest trees. Of course, a trip to San Diego wouldn’t be complete without stops at San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld , where you can get up close and personal with some of their friendly killer whales!

If you have time, cruise down into Baja California , the world’s second-longest peninsula, where you will find yourself transported to a world of wild untamed beauty and romantic sunsets, where condors swoop on thermals high up in vast washed out skies, and nights are spent under a wide canopy of twinkling stars. Simply heaven.

Statue of Liberty with American flag and fireworks at night

Acadia National Park, Maine : a stunning rocky headland with a rich cultural heritage, featuring some of the highest mountains along the Atlantic Coast.

Everglades National Park, Florida : a unique tropical wilderness with UNESCO Biosphere status, where you can explore its vast network of wetlands and forests.

Universal Orlando Resort, Florida : the ultimate theme park for kids, big and small!

Museum of Modern Art, New York : boasting some of the world's finest collections of contemporary art.

Bunker Hill Monument, Massachusetts : a 221-foot towering obelisk commemorating one of the first major battles between British and Patriot forces in the American Revolutionary War in 1775.

San Diego Zoo, California : located in the beautiful Balboa Park, the zoo boasts over 12,000 animals of more than 650 species and subspecies.

Mendenhall Glacier, Alaska : spectacular 13 miles long glacier located in southeast Alaska, in the Mendenhall Valley.

Lido Key Beach, Florida : exquisite white-sand beach lapped by turquoise waters, located on Barrier Island off the coast of Florida.

USA Yacht Charter Q&A

Whilst some yachts are legally permitted to charter in the US, others do not meet American fiscal requirements and so are not available for charter whilst in US waters.  Many charter yachts are foreign flag vessels and don't qualify.

Please speak with a yacht charter broker  for further information on specific yachts that can charter in US Waters.

Where to begin your yacht charter depends on your chosen destination in this hugely diverse continent. For New England yacht charters, the popular option is Newport, Rhode Island, an all-American yachting hub boasting picturesque harbours, gilded-age mansions and chic yacht clubs.

For Florida yacht charters, the glamorous city of Miami tends to be the preferred jumping off point. Alternatively, yacht charters can begin in Nassau, Bahamas before making their way up the Florida Keys to finish up in Florida. With a raft of international airports at your disposal, along with world-class cruising areas, the choice is really up to you.

For yacht charters on the southwest coast, a popular starting point is in the beautiful harbor of San Francisco, where views of the Golden Gate Bridge greet you as you fly in. For charters in the Pacific northwest region, most yacht charters incorporate either the breathtaking San Juan Islands or the scenic splendor of Alaska further north, with most international flights routing through the main hub Seattle for both destinations, with smaller charter flights operating out from here.

There are myriad yachts available for charter in America, which come in all shapes and sizes, from speedy planing models to luxury mega yachts and everything in between.

The costs will vary depending on your chosen destination and time of year, so be sure to contact your yacht broker well in advance who can help you secure your perfect yacht and itinerary, including any nights you wish to spend in marinas.

The best time to visit during your yacht charter really depends on your destination;

New England – May-September, although shoulder months are a great time to avoid the crowds.

Florida – November-April. Be sure to avoid the hurricane season from July-October.

Southwest – May-November, although this region can be enjoyed all year round.

Pacific Northwest – June-September, although shoulder months of May and early October are also worth considering.

To give you an idea of which yachts are available, you can browse the complete fleet of North American charter yachts on our site. If you make an enquiry, a yacht charter broker will be in touch to provide you with a custom charter proposal based on your requirements.

Alternatively, please speak with your preferred yacht charter broker , who can help you find the ideal yacht and itinerary for you and your charter party.

Speak with your yacht broker who can arrange to secure your chosen yacht on your selected dates. Your broker will then draw up a legally binding agreement for you both to sign, along with the yacht owner and captain.

Depending on the type of contract, usually a standard agreement with terms applicable to the destination, you will be required to pay 50% of the base charter fee, plus a further 25-30% to cover additional costs incurred whilst on charter, such as fuel, food and drink and marina fees.

To find out more, read our guide on yacht charter costs , which details the costs involved when booking a yacht charter. For more information, please speak with a  yacht broker .

Each of these regions offers a myriad of opportunities for exploration, adventure, and relaxation. Top destinations with Caribbean yacht charters

The picturesque island of St. Lucia offers charterers a tropical paradise to explore. Soak up the sun on white sandy beaches, enjoy a thrilling zip-lining experience through the island’s lush tropical rainforest, wallow in the island’s volcanic mud baths, explore abandoned sugar plantations, or indulge in authentic island cuisine at local award-winning eateries.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines

St. Vincent and the Grenadines lie just south of St. Lucia and are part of an archipelago of 32 verdant tropical islands boasting picturesque coastlines peppered with sugar-white sand beaches and lush tropical interiors. Embrace casual glamour and reset to island time. Highlights include eco-tours of the island’s rainforest, swimming under tropical waterfalls, and the Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary on the island of Bequia.

The island of Mustique is a privately owned island and is part of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, offering a unique coastline that is lapped by both the Atlantic and Caribbean Seas. Mustique’s beauty and exclusive offerings make it a popular destination with VIPs and celebrities who are seeking barefoot elegance. Explore its untouched landscapes, enjoy crystal-clear waters, relax at the island’s beach bars, and unplug from the stresses of day-to-day life.

There is a beach for every day of the year on the island of Antigua, part of the Leeward Islands. Fringed by a coral reef, the waters of Antigua are wonderfully calm, making them great for swimming and making the most of your Caribbean yacht charter’s many water toys.  Beyond the beaches, you’ll find lush tropical rainforests, UNESCO World Heritage sites, and superb eateries, from rustic beach bars to fine dining. Antigua’s warm, steady winds also make it a great destination for sailing enthusiasts.

Part of the three-island state of Barbuda, Antigua, and uninhabited Redonda, these islands are often enjoyed on a Caribbean yacht charter experience along with nearby St. Barths. The island of Barbuda is relatively untouched by tourism development, making it a great place to enjoy traditional Caribbean life and truly unwind.  The island is best known for its stunning pink-sand beaches along its Caribbean coastline and wonderful flora and fauna, including its Frigate Bird Sanctuary.

St. Kitts, or St. Christopher, is nestled in the West Indies and is known for its mix of volcanic black and golden sandy Caribbean beaches. The island offers a relaxed and carefree atmosphere where one can savor life’s simple pleasures. Enjoy soaking up the sun on the island’s pretty beaches, or enjoy a handcrafted cocktail and fresh catch of the day at one of the many local restaurants and beach-side bars. Make sure you leave time to ride the Sugar Train, a scenic railway route that was originally used to transport sugar.

Catamaran Charters | The Ultimate Guide

Are you dreaming of an escape from the ordinary? Do you yearn for a vacation...

Are you dreaming of an escape from the ordinary? Do you yearn for a vacation where the only agenda is the sun, the sea, and the rhythm of the waves? If so, catamaran charters might be the perfect answer to your wanderlust.

catamaran charters

Forget the rigid itineraries and crowded hotel lobbies of typical vacations. You can explore uniquely, comfortably, and at your own pace on Catamaran charters .

Unlike traditional monohull boats, catamaran charters boast spacious, stable hulls that offer unparalleled comfort and freedom. With the catamaran’s shallow draft, your Captain can navigate shallow waters around secluded islands.

But the magic of catamaran charters extends far beyond the vessel itself. You can think about the journey. The friendships and the unforgettable experiences shared with loved ones.

Catamaran charters are suitable for:

  • Group sailing
  • Large Families
  • Family vacations
  • Getaway weeks
  • People of all ages and interests

Can you imagine gourmet meals prepared by an onboard chef? Or evenings spent under a sky ablaze with stars and laughter echoing across the waves?

Trade your ordinary vacation for an extraordinary adventure. Embark on a catamaran charter and discover a world of enchanting destinations that you and your guests will love.

Catamaran charters have:

  • Large salon areas
  • Up to four cabins or more
  • Sizeable outside dining and relaxing areas
  • Activities and amenities.

Inside the Catamaran | Your Luxurious Oasis

Step inside your floating home away from home and discover a haven of comfort and convenience. Spacious living areas invite you to unwind and connect with your fellow travelers. Plush sofas and armchairs offer the perfect spot to relax with a book or enjoy a game. Expansive windows flood the interior with natural light and stunning views.

The amenities your catamaran offers depend on its size.

Private Ensuite Cabins on Catamaran Charters

The number of cabins on a catamaran depends on the size of the vessel. Each cabin is a haven of peace and tranquility. Comfortable beds, luxurious linens, space to store belongings, and ensuite bathrooms make your cabin a relaxing retreat.

Entertainment for Every Mood

There are entertainment options for everyone. Relax to your favorite tunes on the high-quality sound system or unwind with a movie on the large flat-screen TV. Stay connected to friends at home with onboard Wi-Fi.

Added Amenities

Some catamarans offer unique amenities such as saunas , spas , and massage therapists .

Outside – Your Playground on the Sea

Your catamaran’s expansive deck space gives you room to spread out and enjoy the scenery. The deck is where you’ll spend countless hours soaking up the sun and enjoying the fresh sea breeze. Here are a few of the outside areas you can relax with your traveling companions:

The trampoline is a netting stretched between the two hulls. It is typically at the front, or “bow,” of the catamaran. It serves as an area where you can lounge while enjoying the sea breeze. It’s a popular spot for sunbathing, enjoying the view, or stargazing.

Ascend to the flybridge and gaze out upon the endless horizon. The flybridge has room for alfresco dining, sunning, sipping your favorite beverage, or even napping.

Gather in the comfortable cockpit and share stories under the warm sun. This is the perfect spot to enjoy meals al fresco and socialize with fellow guests. Or spend time alone relaxing and enjoying the breathtaking scenery.

Deck Jacuzzi

Some catamarans have a Jacuzzi on deck. Soak in the bubbling warm water and soothe tired muscles.

An array of water toys awaits you, including kayaks, paddleboards, and snorkeling equipment. Some catamarans offer kiteboarding, e-foils, and sea bobs.

Scuba Diving

If you are a scuba diver , you may want to choose a catamaran with onboard dive gear. Dive from your private yacht and experience some of the best dive sites in your destination.

Your Dedicated Crew | Catamaran Charters

Luxury charter catamarans have a dedicated crew committed to making your experience first-rate. The crew ensures your safety, serves as knowledgeable local guides, and makes your vacation effortless. Your crew will undoubtedly become like family during your voyage.

The experienced Captain is a seasoned professional with vast knowledge of your destination. The Captain will guide you safely and expertly through your journey.

The talented onboard chef will delight your taste buds with delicious meals prepared using fresh, local ingredients. Enjoy a culinary adventure that reflects the flavors of the region.

Destinations for Catamaran Charters

The allure of a catamaran charter lies not only in the boat itself but also in the exciting places it can take you. Here are a few of the most popular destinations for catamaran charters:

Immerse yourself in the turquoise waters and pristine beaches of the Bahamas. Explore the Exuma Cays, home to swimming pigs and white sand beaches. Snorkel colorful coral reefs, dive into the depths of the Blue Hole, or simply relax on a beach and soak up the Caribbean sunshine.

Bahamas catamaran charters in the Exumas and Abacos are very popular on both sailing and power catamarans.

On Caribbean sailing catamarans , guests can explore the laid-back beaches of Antigua. Or the vibrant nightlife of St. Maarten, the Caribbean offers a kaleidoscope of experiences. Explore hidden waterfalls, hike through volcanic landscapes, or relax on a secluded beach.

Catamarans are well-suited for Caribbean waters because of their low draft and comfort in tropical heat. In addition, Caribbean power catamarans can get you to your destination at a faster and more direct route.

In the Caribbean, catamaran charters can cost between $6,500 and $20,000 per cabin or more. The cost depends on the type of yacht, including its year of construction, builder, previous owners, and water toys.

Virgin Islands (USVI/BVI)

Discover the emerald-green hills and secluded coves of the Virgin Island s . Sail between St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. John, experiencing each island’s distinct culture and charm. Discover ancient ruins, snorkel in crystal clear water, or indulge in duty-free shopping in Charlotte Amalie.

Explore the islands on a BVI catamaran charter . You can visit the Jost Van Dyke beach bars, like Soggy Dollar, well known for its Pusser Rum Painkillers.

Sail through the azure waters of the Aegean Sea and discover the ancient wonders of Greece. Cruise among the Cyclades islands, visiting Santorini’s whitewashed villages and Mykonos’ vibrant nightlife.

Catamaran Charters – A Day in Paradise

What is a day like on a catamaran? It can be whatever you would like! Here is a look at a typical day aboard a crewed luxury catamaran.

Awake to the gentle rocking of the boat. Savor a cup of coffee on the deck as the sun rises over the horizon, painting the sky with vibrant colors. Take your time and linger over a delicious breakfast.

Dive into the crystal-clear waters for a snorkeling adventure. Discover a world teeming with colorful fish, coral reefs, and other marine life. Use some of your yacht’s water toys, relax on the sunbeds, and soak up the sun.

Enjoy a gourmet lunch prepared by the chef. After lunch, head ashore to explore historic sites, shop at unique boutiques, or try local wines.

Back on board the boat, hop back in the water to cool off. Visit a secluded cove, kayak through a mangrove forest, or relax on the beach. Enjoy the tranquility of your surroundings.

As the sun dips below the horizon, gather on the deck for a sundowner cocktail. Share stories with your fellow guests as the sunset paints the sky in orange, red, and purple hues. Discuss your plans for the evening and tomorrow’s adventures.

Indulge in a delicious dinner, followed by an evening of entertainment. If you are near a lively town, head ashore and join the locals for drinks and dancing.

Retreat to your comfortable cabin and fall asleep to the boat’s gentle rocking and the sea’s soothing sounds.

During the Coronavirus pandemic, Kate and her colleagues at Sailchecker have performed brilliantly. They have been considerate and highly efficient in re-organising our Turkey charter and also provided lots of assistance in getting our Yacht Security Deposit insurance policy transferred to match our revised charter dates.

Truly worthy of a 5 star rating!

Alan, R.

Would I go sailing again? OMG yes! Sailing is the perfect family holiday. Boys loved the activities, I enjoy relaxing as well...

Anne

It was sail in the day… party at night. We couldn't have wanted a better skipper or a Spring Break!  Good times...

Arranged for 6 friends to sail Spring Break in the British Virgin Islands for under $500 each.

Tim

All bookings and confirmations was always accurate with no delays. Our boat was also fabulously maintained and the Skipper new the area extremely well...

While a yacht may be the first thing that pops to mind when you think of the ultra-wealthy, chartering one might not be as expensive as you think. When you're splitting the costs between several family members or friends you are paying for transportation and stay and it can make sense financially.

You can also  keep money in your wallet  by selecting an older vessel or taking charge of sailing yourself (hiring a crew always costs extra).

So let’s take a look at options that may be within reach for people who aren’t living paycheck to paycheck but aren’t brunching with the Kardashians either.

Editor's note: prices are subject to change and may vary depending on the time of the year.

Said Kahn's 400-foot long superyacht Kismet charters for over $3 million per week

I haven’t met Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan yet. But, after touring his previous 313-foot-long superyacht that’s played host to numerous A-list celebrities at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show a few years back, and recently learning that his newly launched superyacht is 400-feet-long, it’s pretty obvious he likes to go big.

The interior for the 400-foot-long Kismet that charters for $3 million per week

And as you can see in these images, Khan’s new KISMET ( Cecil Wright sold his previous 313-foot-long KISMET last September and is the central charter agent for this one) that was built by Lürssen in Germany, has an exterior design by Nuvolari Lenard , and an interior design led by the Khan’s family working alongside Reymond Langton Design takes going big to a whole other level.

Actually, what makes KISMET even more opulent is the simple fact that eventhough it’s much, much longer than an American football field, it’s designed to pamper just 12 uber VIP ’s over the yacht’s six massive decks.

In fact, the master suite spans two decks and features a large skylight and fireplace, and his and hers bathrooms and dressing rooms. The private hot tub and sunbathing area forward and the private staircase leading up to a spectacular office simply must be seen to be believed.

The interior for the 400-foot-long Kismet that charters for $3 million per week is massive

The guest cabins also offer an oasis of comfort and serenity with the flexibility to accommodate varying preferences. Meanwhile, the yacht’s wellness and beauty areas include a Balinese-inspired spa with hammam, sauna, and cryotherapy chamber to a dedicated gym and yoga studio with a juice bar, both with opening sea terraces. In addition, there is a further treatment room with a massage table, waterfall shower and chromotherapy bathtub. For red carpet ready evenings, the yacht has two hair and beauty rooms, one in the spa area and another in the owner’s suite.

The outdoor cinema aboard the 400-foot-long Kismet that charters for $3 million per week

Entertainment areas include a large outdoor cinema on the bridge deck and a Nemo cinema on the lower deck with a 150-inch drop-down TV and underwater viewing lounge. Of course there’s also a DJ station overhanging the bridge deck aft, a Boganyi grand piano on the upper deck and four bars, including a champagne bar and wine cellar room.

As you’d expect, the yacht also boasts a full suite of water sports toys including: Jet Skis, SeaBobs, e-foils, Flitescooters, an Aquaglide floating deck and inflatable slide, dive gear and oh, by-the-way, there’s a basketball and pickleball court forward of the master cabin on the foredeck.

Sounds amazing, right? It is. And all of that over-the-top luxury can be yours for approximately $3,000,000 per week via Cecil Wright . And I bet KISMET ’s summer season is close to be fully booked already!
